RUDOLPH. Dorothy Jane Rudolph, 73, died Tuesday, September 1, 1992, at Rossmore Manor in orinda. Born in Jerseyville February 2, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. England. She was past president of the Oakland Lions Club Lion’s Auxiliary, County Election Poll Judge for 20 years and a director of concession accounting for Dutchess Inc. until retiring. She was a veteran of the American Red Cross 12th Naval District. Surviving are her husband, Edward A. Rudolph; 1 son, Robert E. Rudolph of Martinez, California; and 3 grandchildren. Services were at 11 am Friday at Hull Walnut Creek Chapel in Walnut Creek, California. Burial will be private. Memorials may be given to Lincoln Child Center of Oakland, California.
RUDOLPH. Died 03-1905. Mary C. Rudolph, 46, died recently. She was born in Jonesboro, TN November 26, 1859 and was married to Charles W. Rudolph September 26, 1883. Funeral at mc church Rev. J. G. Dee officiating.
RUE. Died 09-1878. Alfred Rue, 65, was born February 21, 1813, in Perrinsville, Monmouth County New Jersey. He came to Illinois in 1835 stopping at Bloomington where, March 21, 1838 he married Matilda (Baker) Rue. She survives. Also surviving 3 sons; 2 daughters and 2 brothers. They moved to Jersey County in 1837 where for 41 years he has lived and was respected by all. Funeral from Presbyterian church, Rev. Stark officiating.
RUE. Died 25-10-1963. Charles A. Rue, Sr., 74, was killed and his wife injured in an accident which occurred at a road intersection in Michael, Illinois. Also injured was Peter Traufler of Michael. All were brought to Jersey Community hospital where the latter remains a patient for treatment of serious injuries. Mrs. Rue remained overnight as a patient at the hospital. The body of Mr. Rue was brought to Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville where visitation hours were held until the hour of the funeral. Services were held at the Assembly of God church in Jerseyville Monday afternoon October 28, at 2 pm. Rev. Frand Goss pastor, officiated and burial was in Oak Grove. Mr. Rue was born in Delhi, October 30, 1888, a son of the late John & Rolanda (Brooks) Rue. He would have been 75 on Wednesday of this week. In addition to his wife, the decedent in survived by 2 sons, Robert Rue of Godfrey, and Allen Rue of Jerseyville; 1 daughter, Mrs. Winfred (Helen) Baugh of Jerseyville; 1 sister Mrs. Mary E. Greene of Kane; 14 grandchildren and 14 g-grandchildren.
RUE. Died 19-09-1974. Charles allen Rue, Jr., 54 years, 1 months, 10 days, of 606 E. Carpenter, Jerseyville died at 10:45 pm September 19 at Jersey Community hospital, less than 1 month after his wife Lois M. Bohrman Rue (she died August 21). He was born August 9, 1920 in Jersey County, the son of Charles & Gertrude (Bushnell) Rue, Sr. Rue, was elevator manager for Jersey County Grain Company. He was a veteran of WWII and a member of the American Legion. Surviving are 3 daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Marilyn) Delp, Mrs. Fred (Linda) Blasa and Mrs. Daniel (Nancy) Green, all of Jerseyville and 1 son Stephen E., at home, and 2 grandchildren, 1 sister Mrs. Helen Baugh, and 1 brother, Robert S. Rue, of Jerseyville. Funeral services were held at 1:30 pm September 22, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. A. A. Ledebuhr officiated, with interment in Oak Grove cemetery.
RUE. Died 03-1891. George Spafford Rue, 87, was born at Perrineville, Monouth County, New Jersey, on April 26, 1804. He learned the shoemaker trade and followed that trade for many years. In 1825 he came as far west as Cleveland, Ohio. He lived there 1 year and returned to New Jersey, making the trip on horseback. On March 6, 1834, he married Ellen (Lucas) Rue and they came to Jersey County in 1840. They moved to a farm east of Jerseyville and had been married 57 years on the day he died. Surviving are his wife and 1 son, Charles H. Rue of Phillipsburg, kn, 1 daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Pennington of Raymond, IL; 2 sisters, and 1 brother living in New Jersey. Funeral from Presbyterian church with Rev. Tyson officiating. Pallbearers: J. G. Marston, Wm. Embley, Isaac Harbert, George Embley, and John Darby. The good old man has gone to rest, up in heaven with the best.
RUE. Died 01-1909. Joseph J. Rue, 63, died at his home in Mason City, Illinois. Funeral was in that city. The deceased, a former resident of Delhi, leaves a brother of Mrs. Spencer Wyckoff of Jerseyville and John Rue of Delhi.
RUE. Died 21-08-1974. Lois Marguerite Rue, 51, died August 21 at home. Visitation will be held after 4 pm Thursday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm, August 23, with Rev. James Boyer officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. She was born February 26, 1923 in Alton, the daughter of Edward & Eunice (Redman) Borkman. Mrs. Rue is survived by her husband; 3 daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Marilyn) Delp, Mrs. Fred (Linda) Blasa and Miss Nancy Rue; 1 son Stephen Rue; 1 sister Mrs. Gerald Malloy and 2 grandchildren all of Jerseyville.
RUE. Died 01-11-1983. Lora Mae Rue, 92, of Jerseyville died at Greenwood Nursing Home, November 1 at 9:50. The funeral service was held Friday afternoon at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Wayne Pendleton officiated and burial was in Grimes-Neeley cemetery. West of Jerseyville. She was born May 27, 1891 in Pittsfield, Pike County, daughter of the late Samuel T. and Artie (Emmert) Reeves and was a member of the Assembly of God church. Her first husband, August E. Miller, died February, 1950 and she later married Charles Rue who died in October 1963. Her survivors are 1 son, Harry Miller of Kane; 1 Daughter, Lillian Huntsman of Spring Valley, California and a number of grandchildren including 2 granddaughters she reared, Esther Mae Webster of Alton and Dolores Sitze of Phoenix, Arizona; and 1 sister. Ollie McGuigg of Alton. She was also preceded in death by 1 son and 2 brothers.
RUE. Died 12-1878. Matilda Rue: Coroner’s jury convened in se upper room of Alfred Rue’s home and George E. Warren was sworn as foreman of the jury, with O. B. Hamilton, J. K. Smith, James W. Calhoun, George S. Miles, Wallace Leigh, C. M. Hamilton, B. C. Vanderwoort, H. T. Nail, George E. Warren, Wm. Kirby, H. Z Gill, and Henry C. Lovell were jurors. Mary Lackland, a witness, was sworn in and testified: I came in from the wash house and she was asleep on her bed, I went to get dinner and was gone 10 minutes, came back and she was gone (dead?) for some time and I went to look for and found her lying on the bed. I was frightened and went to look for Mr. Dol Rue and could not find him. Then I went for Mrs. Kirby and Mrs. Hall. I did not see the pistol. There has been a pistol under the pillow of this bed all the time since I have been here. We the jury find from the evidence that Matilda Rue came to her death by shooting herself with a pistol in her own hands. She is survived by 3 sons, Adolpus, Edward and William. Funeral from Presbyterian church with Rev. Stark and Rev. C. E. Taylor officiating. Pallbearers: Judge Warren, O. B. Hamilton, William B. Nevins, Uriah D Howell, B. C. Vandervoort, C. M. Hamilton, Wallace Leigh and W. Calhoun.
RUFFCORN. Died 23-03-1922. John Andrew Ruffcorn, 71 years, 4 months, 18 days, of Grafton, died Sunday, March 23 at 5:55 am at Alton Memorial hospital. He had a patient there for 5 weeks. He was a son of the late Henry & Eliza (Vanantwerp) Ruffcorn and was born in Jersey County on Oct. 25, 1880. Mr. Ruffcorn is survived by 1 half-sister, Mrs. Emma Rhoads of Alton, 2 nieces and 4 nephews. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Final rites were held Tuesday afternoon, March 25, at 2 pm at the Pentecostal church in – incomplete.
RULO. Died 05-05-1981. Blanche C. Rulo, 59, 105 E. Main, Grafton died at St. Anthony hospital in Alton, May 5, 6:02 pm. A funeral mass was celebrated Friday am at St. Patrick church in Grafton with burial in Scenic Hill cemetery. She was born December 22, 1921 in Richwoods, Missouri, a daughter of Joseph & Frances (Boyer) Declue. Her survivors include her husband, Rolla Rulo whom she married December 12, 1941 in Potosi, Missouri; 8 sons, Rollen, Joe, Kenny, Jerry, Dick, Ronnie and Terry, all of Grafton and Roy of Godfrey; 3 daughters, Charlene Carpenter of Alton, Betty Fry of Wood River and Sharon Lyons of Germany; 21 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Cletus Declue of Richwoods, Missouri and Leonard Declue of Fieldon; 2 sisters, Lena Mayhew of Wood River and Lorene Cain of Fieldon. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, 1 daughter and 1 sister. The rosary was recited Thursday evening at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
RULO. Died 27-08-1987. Katherine Louise Rulo, 46, Grafton died at 10:40 am August 27 at St. Anthony hospital Alton. She was born September 25, 1940 in Brighton, the daughter of William Vanover & Amelaia (Geisler) Vanover. She married Rolla Rulo on May 25, 1982 in Peoria. She is survived by her husband, Rolla Rulo of Grafton; her parents, William Vanover of Milstadt and Bernice West of Piasa; 1 son, John W. Lynch of Brighton; 1 daughter, Shannon Rulo of Grafton, numerous step-children; paternal grandmother, Bessie West of Alton; 2 Sisters, Sue Fuller and Donna Cartwright, both of Kane; 4 brothers, Bob Rhoades of Medora, Allan West of Piasa, Don West of Carrollton and Dick West of Shipman. She was preceded in death by 1 Brother, Dennis West of Shipman. She was preceded in death by 1 brother Dennis West. A funeral mass was held at 10 am August 29, at St. Francis Xavier church in Jerseyville with burial in Brighton cemetery. Jacoby brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society.
RULO. Died 29-05-1974. Pamela Kay Rulo, 26 of 2721 W. Delmar, Godfrey died 3:30 am, May 29 at St. Joseph hospital in Alton. The funeral mass was celebrated Friday am May 31 at St. Patrick church in Grafton with Rev. Patrick Morrow of Grafton celebrant. Interment was in Emery cemetery, Chester. She was born December 24, 1947 in St. Louis, 1 daughter of Glennon D. & Ila Mae (Atchison) Leible. She is survived by her husband, Roy Junior Rullo; 2 daughters, Danette and Dawn Rulo, at home; her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Leible of Elsah; grandmother, Mrs. Grace Atchison of Chester; grandfather, John Daniel Leible of Cahokia; and g-grand mother, Mrs. Pearl Atchison of Chester; and 1 sister Mrs. Robert (Gwen) Agles of Martin. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton where the rosary was recited Thursday evening, May 30.
RUSH. Died 11-1909. Charles H. Rush, 87, was born near Hatboro, PA, on August 10, 1822. He married Mary Ann (Boner) Rush in 1863. They came to Jersey County in 1866 and his wife died March 21, 1909. He leaves 1 son, Thomas H. Rush; 2 granddaughters; 3 sisters and 1 brother. Funeral was from C. F. Fales Parlors with burial in Oak Grove cemetery. Rev. Stephen Catt officiated.
RUSH. Died 18-05-1971. Everett Woodrow Rush, 58, died unexpectedly at his home at 4:30 am May 18. Final services will be held this afternoon at 1:30 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Leonard Todd will officiate at the rites with burial in Fieldon cemetery. Born February 28, 1913 in Fieldon he was the son of John & Rachel Cooper Rush. He had engaged in farming. Mr. Rush was a member of the Jerseyville Moose Lodge and the Masonic Lodge of Fieldon. He is survived by his wife, Delta (Powell) Rush. His parents preceded him in death. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where Masonic rites were conducted at 8 pm Wednesday.
RUSH. Died 10-05-1942. Jessie Mason Rush, 68 years, 7 months, and 14 days, a retired farmer who formerly resided in Jersey County, died at 12:30 am Sunday May 10, at his home in St. Louis where he had resided for the past few months. Rush was the son of the late John & Louise (Wichawn) Rush, and was born in Scott County, September 26, 1873. The deceased is survived by his wife, Sarah Etta Rush; 3 son, Edgar and Jerome Rush of St. Louis, and Frank Rush of Fort Benning, Georgia; 1 daughter, Mrs. Dora Lewis of St. Charles, Missouri; 4 sisters, Mrs. Ivy Kyfus of St. Louis, Mrs. Minda Fred of Grafton, Mrs. Mrtle Styles of East Hardin and Mrs. Lathisa Carpunky of Alton; 2 brothers, John Rush of Fieldon and Gus Rush of Alton and 3 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, Tuesday, May 12, at 2 pm. Rev. Leonard Todd of Fieldon officiated and interment was in Gunterman cemetery.
RUSH. Died 08-1928. Louise Rush, 80, died at home 2 miles south of Rosedale. She the widow of John Rush. Funeral was at Rosedale church with Rev. Rueben Russell officiating and burial in Gunterman cemetery. She is survived by 5 Daughters, Ella Besant, Iva Kyfers, Minda Jones, Myrtle Styles all of St. Louis and Mrs. Zipprich Carpunky of Alton; 3 sons, John of Fieldon Jess of St. Louis, and Gus of Alton; sister Mrs. Thean Walk of Alton, Nancy Walk of St. Louis; brothers Jess Wishon of St. Louis and Lem Wishon of Alsey, Illinois.
RUSH. Died 31-10-1959. Rachel Rush, 71 years, 2 months, 21 days, of Rockbridge died Saturday am, October 31, at 11:45 at Boyd Memorial hospital in Carrollton where she had been a patient for 6 weeks. She was the widow of John Rush. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, November 3, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Leonard Todd of Alton, former pastor of Christ Evangelical and Reformed church in Fieldon, officiated at the services and burial was in the Fieldon cemetery. Mrs. Rush was a daughter of the late John & Rose (Weeks) Cooper, and was born in Jersey County on August 10, 1888. Surviving her are 1 son Everett Rush of rockbridge; 1 brother, Robert Cooper of Jerseyville, and 3 sisters, Miss Bertha Cooper, Mrs. Anna Medford and Mrs. Alma Gerson of Fieldon.
RUSH. Died 17-11-1924. Thomas Howard Rush died November 17, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Daniel Ring in Detroit, Mich. The remains were brought to Jerseyville to the home of Mrs. Walter Wilson, also a daughter. Funeral was from the Wilson home on East Prairie, Thursday November 20. Rev. Harrold S. Farrill officiated with burial in Oak Grove cemetery.
RUSK. Died 1897. Child of Mrs. Katie Rusk.
RUSK. James Rusk, 77, died at home near Fieldon from Brights disease. He was one of the old settlers of Jersey County. He was born in SC July 14, 1811 and when 19 came to Jersey County with parents. Married Emily Smith, January 2, 1859. Pallbearers: Green Erwin, Edwin Colean, J. T. Erwin. Wm Campbell, John Neely and John Hets(z?)l. He leaves his wife and 2 daughters.
RUSK. Died 08-02-1921. William John Rusk, 75, son of Hugh & Ellen (Barr) Rusk was born in Jersey County September 5, 1846, and departed this life February 8,1921. He was united in marriage to Jemima (Smith) Rusk November 18, 1866. To this union 1 child was Born, Emma (Rusk) Felter. After their marriage they resided upon a farm near Fieldon; from there they moved to the old Rusk homestead where they spent the remaining years of their married life. His wife preceded him into the great beyond February 10, 1903. Mr. Rusk was one of a family of 13 children 3 of whom are living; Thomas Rusk, Mrs. Minnie Hickman, Mrs. Ella Rusk. Those who preceded him into the beyond are Mrs. Charolette Robards, Mrs. Julia Arter, Mrs. Frances Hardy, Mrs. Nancy Bridges, Emma, Priscilla, James Silas and Zacharia Rusk. The deceased has 3 grandchildren, Maude M, Walter R. and Wm. Felter. Mr. Rusk was a good man, a devoted father and a beloved friend to all who knew him; always ready to lend a helping hand in the time of need. Dearest father thou hast left us and our loss we deeply feel but it is God that hast bereft us he can all our sorrows heal. Yet again we hope to meet thee when the day of life has fled when in heaven with joy to greet thee, where no farewell tear is shed.
RUSKIN. Died 02-1983. Anna E. Ruskin, 81, a former Roxana resident, died Wednesday am at Continental Manor Nursing Home in Dwight, where she was residing. She was born in Macoupin County, daughter of the late Elmer & Susannah (Bright) Snedeker. She married John Robert Ruskin who died June 12, 1950. Surviving are a son, Robert of Geneseo; 2 daughters, Susanne Hargis of Joliet and Judith Ann O’Connell of Ellisville, Missouri; 8 grandchildren; 6 g-grandchildren; 3 Brothers, Marcus Snedeker of Plainview, Edward Snedeker of Godfrey and William Snedeker of Bunker Hill; and 1 sister Dolly Scroggins of New Douglas. Visitation will be after 4 pm Friday at Marks Mortuary. K at 9 am Saturday, the body will be moved to the First Presbyterian church in Roxana, where services will be conducted at 10:30 am with Rev. Harris Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Shipman cemetery. Memorials may be given to charity of one’s choice.
RUSSELL. Died 09-08-1952. Mrs. Alice Mae Russell, 62, wife of Justus Russell, died August 9 in Nutwood. The daughter of Benjamin & Susan (Davenport) Kirchner and born in Jersey County, August 16, 1889. She leaves her husband, 2 sons, Everett and Earl Russell of Fieldon, 1 daughter, Mrs. Hazel Ayers of Fieldon, 5 grandchildren, 3 brothers, Ed Kirchner of Jerseyville, Elmer Kirchner of Kane, George Kirchner of Fieldon, 2 sisters, Mrs. Adolph Wahl and Mrs. Parker Collins preceded her in death. Rites from Nutwood church with Rev. Thomas Jolly of Eldarado. Burial was in Fieldon cemetery.
RUSSELL. Died 30-07-1970. Anna Marie Russell, 71, of Jerseyville died Friday am at Jersey Community hospital. Rev. Ronald Hastie of Jerseyville officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Born October 1, 1898 at Fieldon, she was the daughter of James & Elizabeth (Boomer) Minard. Her husband, Charles W. Russell preceded her in death. Her survivors are 2 daughters, Mrs. Leona Roe of Jerseyville and Mrs. Esther Branham of Delhi; 5 sons, John Russell of Hettick, Alfred, Charles and Donald of Jerseyville and Clarence (Pat) of Kane; 24 grandchildren; 2 Brothers, Curtis Minard of Warren, Michigan, and William Minard of Jerseyville. Her husband, 2 sons, 2 brothers and 2 sisters, preceded her in death.
RUSSELL. Died 21-01-1970. Charles William Russell, 80, of Jerseyville died January 21, at Jersey Community hospital. Services were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 pm at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where visitation was held Friday pm. Rev. Roy Hill of Gillespie officiated at the rites. A retired farmer, he was born July 5, 1889 in Oswego, KS, the son of Reuben & Martha (Hand) Russell. He is survived by his wife, Anna (Minard?) Russell; 5 sons, John of Hettick, Clarence of Kane, Alfred, Charles and Donald of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Mrs. Leona Strebel of Jerseyville and Mrs. Esther Branham of Delhi; 24 grandchildren; 7 g-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Paul Russell of Carrollton and Harold Russell of Jerseyville; and 1 sister Mrs. Pearl McGowen, also of Jerseyville. 2 sons preceded him in death.
RUSSELL. George “Bud” Russell, 71, died at 1:14 pm Friday, May 1, 1987, at St. Luke hospital west in Chesterfield, Missouri. Born in Jersey County, son of the late George L. & Maggie (Welch) Russell, he married Dorothy Foster on June 27, 1934, in Jerseyville. She survives. He was a co-owner of Bud Russell & Son Contractors in Jerseyville for 50 years and also part owner of Busch Bowling Alley in Jerseyville. Besides his wife, the WWII Army veteran is survived by 3 sons, Ralph Eugene, Robert Joseph and Roger William, all of Jerseyville; 1 Daughter, Priscilla Ann Prough of Kane; 10 grandchildren; 12 g-grandchildren; 1 sister Mildred Russell of Jerseyville; and 2 brothers, Herschel and Carl Russell both of Jerseyville. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm Sunday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Masonic services will be held at 6:30 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm Monday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery, with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post 492 of Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society.
RUSSELL. Died 14-03-1968. George L. Russell, Sr., 74 years, 10 months, and 3 days, died Friday at 5:55 am at his home on Locke St., Jerseyville. Although he had been in ill health for some time his death was unexpected. Services were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where visitation was held. Rev. Bekman Day of Dexter, Missouri, officiated with interment in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr. Russell was a son of the late Rueben & Martha (Hand) Russell, and was born May 11, 1894, at Oswego, KS. He had resided in Jerseyville 39 years and was a member of Wesleyan Church on Short St. Surviving Mr. Russell are his wife, Mrs. Nora Russell of Jerseyville, 4 sons, George E. RUSSELL. Died 15-03-1889. Mrs. Jane G. Russell, 87, died at the home of Judge O. P. Powell, March 15. The former Jane Richards married Joseph Russell October 1823 in Frederick County, VA. They moved to Jersey County in 1865. She had recently resided with her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Fulkerson. She was the mother of 6 children, 2 of whom survive. The funeral was from the home of Col. Fulkerson, with Rev. L. C. Tyson of the Presbyterian church presiding. Pallbearers: G. E. Warren, A. A. McReynolds, J. G. Marston, L. D Cory, J. S. Daniels, B. F. Calhoun, O. Randolph and Wallace Leig.
RUSSELL. Died 11-1968. Justus Russell, 77 years, 4 months, 10 days, of 2146 State St., Granite City, died at 8:45 pm Friday at Alton Memorial hospital, where he had been a patient for 2 weeks. The former western Jersey County farmer was the son of the late Reuben & Martha (Hand) Russell. He was born in Greene County, June 21, 1891 and was a member of the Assembly of God church here. His survivors are his wife, Rev. Olivia Y. Russell; 1 daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Hazel) Ayres, Fieldon; 1 son, Earl Russell; 5 grandchildren; 11 g-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Charles, George, and Harold Russell of Jerseyville, and Paul Russell of Carrollton; 1 sister Mrs. Pearl McGowen of Jerseyville; 1 step-son, Jack Hous of Keokuk, IA, and 1 step-daughter, Mrs. Robert Haynes of Granite City.
RUSSELL. Died 13-06-1983. Kathryn “Katie” Russell, 63, 302 E. Miller Drive, Jerseyville died unexpectedly at 11:58 pm June 13 at Jersey Community hospital from an apparent heart attack. Services were held Thursday afternoon at Peace United Church of Christ with Rev. Henry Lippert officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Born May 29, 1920 at Eldred in Greene County to the late George & Lettie (Winchell) McAdams, she was a cook at the Donut Kitchen restaurant. Mrs. Russell was a charter member of the Women of the Moose and Women of the Elks. Her husband, Ralph L. Russell whom she married on February 5, 1938 at St. Charles, Missouri, died February 27 this year. She is survived by 3 Daughters, Fran Fosha and Sharon Looper of Jerseyville and Gloria McClary of Brighton; 1 brother, Paul McAdams of St. Joseph, Mich. and 1 sister Doris Arter of Jerseyville; 8 grandchildren and 3 g-grandchildren. Memorials may be given to the church building fund and the Heart Fund.
RUSSELL. Died 26-06-1974. Lela Elizabeth Russell, 75 of 1106 Locke St. Jerseyville, died at 6:15 pm June 26 at Greenwood Manor. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held there Sat. afternoon, June 29, with interment in McDow cemetery. Born September 2, 1898 in Otter Creek Township, she was the daughter of George Paris Gowin & Libby Elizabeth (Schafer) Gowin. She is survived by 3 daughters, Mrs. James (Helen) Burell of Seattle, Washington, Mrs. Edward (Mary) Cannon of Jerseyville and Mrs. Kathryn Johnson of Jerseyville; 14 grandchildren; 8 g-grandchildren; 3 Brothers, Leslie and Minor Gowin of Kane and George Gowin of Granite City; 1 sister Mrs. Stella Kirchner of Fieldon. Her parents, 1 brother and 2 grandchildren preceded her in death.
RUSSELL. Died 1926. Mrs. James D. Russell, 87, died at her home in Virginia, Illinois. Recently. She was Miss lucinda Hurd, daughter of Judge & Mrs. Hurd, pioneers of Jersey County. She married James D. Russell in 1861. They lived in Jerseyville many years, then moved to Nebraska, where Mr. Russell became associated with his brother-in-law, Charles Holmes, in the banking business. She leaves 2 daughters, Margaret G. Greer and Edith Chambertyain both of Virginia, Illinois; 1 brother, Frank. She was preceded in death by her husband and 1 daughter. Funeral services were in Virginia with Walnut Ridge cemetery.
RUSSELL. Died 01-1979. Nora B. Russell, 85, of Locke St., Jerseyville died at 5:20 am January 6 at Jersey Community hospital. She was born August 30, 1892 in Scott County, the daughter of Edward & Emma (Powell) Meppin. She married George L. Russell Sr., in 1957 and he died March 14, 1969. She is survived by 1 son, Jacob Dean of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Mrs. Alice Hamilton of Fieldon and Mrs. Betty Johnson of Kane, 21 grandchildren and 33 g-grandchildren. Services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, at 1:30 pm January 8, Brother Joe Rowlett officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.
RUSSELL. Died 27-02-1983. Ralph Lavern Russell, 66, Route 4 Jerseyville, was pronounced dead at 7:45 pm February 27 at the scene of an accident on Route 16 at Snell Corner on Centennial Road. Services were conducted at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, by Rev. Robert Broeder with burial in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr. Russell retired as a construction supervisor from Jersey County Construction in 1979. He was a son of the late George & Maggie (Welch) Russell and married Kathryn (McAdams) Russell on February 5, 1938. His survivors are his wife; 3 daughters, Fran Fosha and Sharon Looper of Jerseyville and Gloria McClary of Brighton; 3 brothers, Herschel, Bud and Carl of Jerseyville; and 1 sister Mildred Russell, Jerseyville; 8 grandchildren and 3 g-grandchildren. Memorials may be given to Peace United Church of Christ or sids project. A coroner’s inquest in pending.
RUSSELL. Ruben Harold Russell, 65 years, 5 months, and 3 days, a retired carpenter of Jerseyville died Wednesday am. Services were held at 1:30 pm Friday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Orlen Lane and Rev. Louis Kappler officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Visitation was held Thursday afternoon. Mr. Russell, a son of the late Reuben & Martha (Hand) Russell, was born in KS. His health had been impaired since incurring injuries in a truck accident several years ago. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lillian Russell; 1 brother, Paul of Carrollton, and 1 sister Mrs. Pearl McGowen of Jerseyville. 1 son, Richard Harold, 3 brothers and 1 sister preceded him in death.
RUSSO. Died 13-03-1986. Joel “Joe” Ruso, 19, died Thursday, March 13, 1986, at the US Navy base in Rota, Spain, due to injuries incurred in a motor cycle accident. He was the son of Don & Betty (Noller) Russo of Dow, and was born in Alton. In addition to his parents, surviving are his sister, Amy at home; paternal grandmother, Wilma Russo of Fredericktown, Missouri; and maternal grandfather, Irvin Noller of Centralia. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm Thursday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be conducted at 10 am Friday with Rev. James Endsley officiating. Burial will be in Rose Lawn memory Gardens in Bethalto. Graveside services will be conducted by the US Navy and the Jerseyville American Legion. Memorials may be given to Dow Baptist church or one’s choice.
RUTHERFORD. Died 08-1926. Miss Adelaid Virginia Rutherford, 78, was born in Jersey County, but had resided in Macoupin County for 75 years. She died at the home of her brother, Horace Rutherford. She was the oldest of 4 children of Julius & Melissa (Landon) Rutherford, pioneer settlers of Jersey County. They moved to Girard 75 years ago, the father entering 360 acres of government land. He was the first man buried in Girard cemetery. She was a graduate of Illinois State Normal Univ. She leaves 1 brother and 1 sister. Funeral was in Girard Presbyterian church, burial in Girard cemetery.
RUYLE. Mrs. Alda Rachel Ruyle, 85, of this city died October 12, 1972 at Garnet’s Chateau Nursing Home, following a lengthy illness. Final rites were held Saturday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial was in Kemper cemetery. She was born February 22, 1887 in Macoupin County the daughter of John & Emma Stanton. (Incomplete)
RUYLE. Died 12-1928. Amos L. Ruyle, 82, died at home 2 miles west of Kemper. Funeral at Kemper Baptist church, Rev. W. Greer of Medora officiating with burial in Kemper cemetery. He is survived by 5 sons: Charles and Eric of Alton, George and Roy of Kemper and John of Carlinville; 1 daughter Mrs. Laura Anderson of Carlinville. Mrs. Ruyle died 2 years ago, 2 years after they had celebrated their golden wedding.
RUYLE. Died 26-10-1978. Lloyd Amos Ruyle, 69, died 0ct 19, 1978 at 5:15 pm at Boyd Memorial hospital, Carrollton. The funeral mass was celebrated Saturday am at St. Michael church in Greenfield with Father Vic Kaltenbach celebrant. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery, Greenfield. He was born in Kemper, a son of the late George & Catherine Mcaliney Ruyle and was a farmer. He married Teresa (Connolly) Ruyle September 14, 1940 in Murrayville. His survivors are his wife, Teresa; 1 daughter, Charlene, Springfield; 2 sons, Michael at home, and Patrick of Springfield; and 1 brother Walter, of Kemper. He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother. Memorials may be given to St. Michael church in Greenfield or the American Cancer Society.
RUYLE. Mary Ruyle, 77, mother of Supt. Thomas B. Ruyle of the County Board of Supervisors, died at her home near Kemper, Wednesday January 17, 1906. She was the widow of Thomas B. Ruyle. She was the daughter of Amos & Eliza pruitt, and was born 3 miles north of Carrollton, in Green County, February 13, 1828. Thomas was a native of Tennessee and came to Morgan County Illinois when 7 years old, he moved to Jersey County in 1832. Mary and Thomas settled, after their marriage, in Ruyle Township where they lived the rest of their lives. They were the parents of 12 children: Amos L, Charles, Deceased, Lucinda J, Eliza E, Mary, Celia, Thomas B, George W, Henry, deceased, Annie and 2 sons who died in infancy. They were of that class of early influential settlers whose persistent patience, true sturdy manhood and womanhood and fruitful and substantial citizenship have contributed generously to the progressive development of Jersey County and Ruyle Township. The demise of Thomas B. Ruyle Sr. was keenly felt as is the death now of Mrs. Ruyle, by the entire community. A faithful wife, a good mother, a true highly esteemed citizen and a charitable and loyal Christian, has ended her life work and passed over the river while her loved ones mourn her going. She leaves to mourn their loss 8 children, 22 grandchildren, 18 g-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. All her children were at her bedside at the time of death. Mrs. Ruyle was familiarly known as “Grandma Ruyle” and had been a member of Kemper Baptist church ever since it was organized in 1876. “Grandma” in her has sickness said: “I am prepared and ready to go and meet those who have gone before.” Funeral services conducted by Rev. Wm. Gaither, were held at Kemper Baptist church. Interment was in Delaware cemetery.
RUYLE. Died 05-1891. Mary Jane Ruyle, 57, daughter of Lewis & Elizabeth Elliott, was born October 4, 1833, across the road from where Mr. B. F. Simpson of Medora resides. On October 9, 1853 she married Col. W. L. Ruyle, a native of Tennessee. He came to Morgan County when 2 years old. Moved to Jersey County in 1843. They were the parents of 9 children, 8 of whom are living. Celia, born August 17, 1855, died June 7, 1856. Wm H. lives near Beatrice, Nebraska, Mrs. Enos (elizabeth) Johnson, Annie wife of V. J. ruff, both living near their parents, Laurie, wife of Amos Johnson living near Medora, Lewis L. of Virginia, Nebraska, Lucinda, Edgar and Oliver t. who live at home. She became ill while walking in the back yard. Rev. S. F. Rice of Medora assisted by Rev. Rhoades of Upper Alton conducted the services held at Mt. Pleasant Baptist church, Medora. Burial was in Oakland cemetery. She told the girls not to grieve for her for she was going to heaven. Pallbearers: Henry Ryan, T. L. Bradshaw, Freeman Mains, John Woods, Harry Gilworth, Jacob Rhoads, Charles Waters and G. D Twitchell.
RUYLE. Died 03-02-1977. Mayme E. Ruyle, 79, died at 5 pm on February 3 at the Menorah Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Her husband was the late Chester Ruyle. She was born May 14, 1897 in Miles Station, Illinois, a daughter of George & Annie (Walters) Boker. At one time she had been a nurses’ aide at Alton Memorial hospital. She is survived by 4 , Byron and Louis Ruyle of Medora, Dwight Ruyle of Godfrey and Robert Ruyle of Huston, Texas; 1 daughter, Imo Jean Passman of Gardner, Kansas; 10 grandchildren and 5 g-grandchildren; and 1 sister Mrs. Edward (Adeline) Frey of Wood River. The funeral service was conducted Sunday afternoon from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville with Rev. Robert Kemper officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.

RYAN. Henry T. Ryan, 82, died at 7:29 pm Wednesday, November 19, 1986, at Reisch Memorial Nursing Home in Carrollton. He was a farmer, born in Ruyle Township, son of the late George & Lena (Morris) Ryan. On November 6, 1926, in Jerseyville, he married the former Mabel Burger. Survivors include his wife; 2 Daughters, Marjorie Young of Shipman and Ruth Farley of Carrollton; 1 son, Thomas Ryan of Piasa; 12 grandchildren; 19 g-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Ada Wiegand of Alton and Helen Burger of Whitehall. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm today at Warner-Targhetta Funeral Home in Medora. Visitation continues, at Bethel Baptist church (near Medora), from 10 am Saturday until time of service at 1 pm. Rev. Earl Clagg will officiate, with burial in Medora cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church, where he was a member.
RYAN. John M. Ryan, 71, died at 6:45 pm Monday, October 29,1990, at Christian hospital ne. in St. Louis county. He was a grand Lodge rep for I a m for 40 years, retiring in 1982, and was a US Navy veteran of WWII. Born in Springfield, Missouri, he was the son of the late Pat & Opal (Mayfield) Ryan. He married the former Marie McGiffen on May 28, 1966, in St. Louis, she survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Mary Ann Randell of St. Louis and Barbara Ryan of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; 1 son, John M. Ryan Jr. of Granite City; and 2 step-sons, Robert E. Griesemer Jr. of Alton and William G. Griesemer of Brentwood, Missouri; 18 grandchildren; 8 g-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Alice Ann Neumann and Mary Lou Rosner, both of Chicago. Visitation is from 4-9 pm Thursday at Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville. A funeral mass is at 10 am Friday at St. Patrick Catholic church in Grafton with Rev. Pat Carroll as celebrant. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Grafton American Legion Post 648 at Scenic Hill cemetery in Grafton. Memorials may be given to a charity of one’s choice.

RYAN. Mrs. Mary G. Ryan died in St. Peters, Minnesota, January 6, 1924. She was born at Kane on April 26, 1872 the daughter of Patrick & Sarah (Flood) Gavin. Funeral from St. Francis church with Rev. J. J. Clancy officiating. Interment in St. Francis cemetery.
RYAN. Died 10-02-1980. Millicent Aline Dougherty, 78, died February 10, 1980 at her home. A private memorial service was held February 13, at the Neece Funeral Home at Franklin . She was born February 19, 1902 near Franklin, the daughter of John W. & Fannie (Sparks) Dougherty. Mrs. Ryan lived in Jerseyville from 1910 until 1942 when the family moved to delavan. She married James Aylward “Rouche” Ryan January 16, 1924; he died in 1965. Her survivors are 4 daughters, Lucille Linengood and Josephine Bluhm, both of Delavan, Francis Flexenhar of Green Valley and Maureen Rademaker of Warrensburg; 1 son, Gerald W. Ryan of McPherson, Kansas; 18 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren; 13 g-grandchildren. Her parents and 1 brother also preceded her in death.
RYAN. Died 1893. Richard Ryan, born in Ohio May 13, 1818, died recently. Came to Illinois in 1819. He was married to Angeline Ritchie November 13, 1842.
RYAN. Died 1969. Theo Ryan, 85, died at her home Sunday evening at 11:15. Christian Science services were held Wednesday am at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where visitation had also been held. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs. Ryan, charter member and past president of the Jerseyville Woman’s Club, was born June 16, 1884, in Jerseyville, the daughter of the late Theodore & Emma (Noble) Dodson. She attended local schools and was graduated from Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri, with a major in music. Her professional stage career in singing and dancing took her throughout the United States and Canada. Her marriage to Mr. Ryan took place September 7, 1918 and the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last Sept. The Ryans operated a book store and news agency here for many years. Mrs. Ryan, active in civic, fraternal and club work, was president of the Jersey County Historical Society. She served 17 years in district offices of the 20th District Illinois Federation of Women’s Clubs, including several years as 20th district Boy’s Town chairman. Theo had attended both state and general federation conventions for many years. Mrs. Ryan held honorary life membership in the Jerseyville Union Woman’s Club which she organized in 1940. She had received 50 year membership pins in the Jerseyville Chapter Order of Eastern Star, the White Shrine of Jerusalem in East St. Louis, and the Royal Neighbors of America, and was a lifelong member of the Daughter of Union Veterans. Mrs. Ryan was also a member of the women’s division, Chamber of Commerce, and the Business and Professional Women’s Club. She worked for many years in the Festival of Giving, a program for needy children at Christmas. Her survivors besides her husband are 1 nephew, Victor C. Dodson of Heber Springs, Arkansas; a g-nephew and a great niece, Donald V. Dodson of St. Louis and Mrs. Peggy Dodson Bittner of St. Louis.
