WACHENHUSEN. Died 11-04-1889. Josephine Wachenhusen, nee Robbins was born in Jerseyville, and her parents moved to St. Louis, Missouri. She married Frederick Von Wachenhusen in Newark, NJ. She had come from Newark last February 1, hoping the drier atmosphere of the county would improve her health. Her husband Frederick preceded her in death, on March 18, 1889, at Silver City, NM.
WACHTER. Died 25-09-1952. Adam Wachter, 85, died Thursday September 25 at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr & Mrs Kenneth L Searles, of Jerseyville. He had been ill the past four weeks. He was a retired glass blower and was born in Pittsburgh, PA, April 14, 1867. His age at the time of death was 85 years, 5 months, 11 days. He had resided in Jerseyville for the past 13 years. His only survivors are his daughter, Mrs Searles and 1 granddaughter, Joan K Searles of Jerseyville. funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, September 29. Rev F W Schwarlose, pastor of First Methodist Church officiated and interment was in Alton City Cemetery.
WACHTER. Died 00-00-1880. Andrew Wachter, died at his home. He had lost his son last week. He leaves his wife and 2 daughters. A Catholic and helped to erect a Catholic Church?? near Elsah.
WADDELL. Died 00-06-1921. Margaret Waddell, died at the home of her parents, Mr & Mrs Wm Waddell at Decatur. Burial was in Decatur. She was a sister-in-law of Wm McMahon of Jerseyville. The Waddell family were residents of Jerseyville until a year ago.
WADDLE. Died 00-03-1912. Miss Anna Waddle, 21, daughter of Mrs John Waddle of Jerseyville. Funeral was held from Colored Baptist church with Rev S Catt officiating.
WADDLE. Died 00-01-1914. Elizabeth Waddle, 66, died Tuesday evening. She was a widow, and survivors were 3 sons, James, Abraham and Oscar. Her only daughter, Miss Annie died about 1 year ago. She was a colored person and resident of Jerseyville. Rev Kane Lockwood of Bunker Hill officiated at the services and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
WADDLE. Died 00-02-1894. Richard C Waddle, 51, died at his home, 1 1/2 miles east of Kane. Funeral from ME church at Kane with Rev John A Taylor officiating.
WADE. Died 15-02-1988. Doris June Wade, 56, died unexpectedly, February 15, 1988, at her residence. Born in Pulaski County, she was the daughter of Dortha (Ervin) Miller of Godfrey and the late Raymond C Calvin. She married Charles V Wade on December 25, 1952, in Alton, and he survives. Surviving in addition to her husband and mother, are 2 daughters, Susan Valencia of Lewistown, Illinois, and Tammy Wade at home; 3 sons, Charles Lee and Thomas Wade, both of Alton, and Terry Ray Wade of Fairbury, Illinois; 2 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Harold Calvin of Alton. Visitation was held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville where Jerseyville Order of Eastern Star Lodge #656 held their service. Boyd Goodson officiated at funeral service and burial was in Oak Grove. Memorials may be given to Jerseyville Order of Eastern Star Lodge #656 or Greater Alton Church of Christ, where Mrs Wade had been a member.
WADE. Died 11-01-1974. Francis (Mike) Wade, died unexpectedly on January 11 at Pomona Valley Community hospital in Ontario, CA, where he had been a patient since January 6. Surviving are his widow, Mattie; 2 sons, James Wade, Tulsa, OK and Richard Wade, Ontario, CA; 2 daughters, Mrs Hugh Thatcher, Wood River, IL and Mrs Andy Agee of Ontario, CA; 14 grandchildren; 1 brother, William Wade; his step mother Mrs Rose Wade; 1 half brother, Junior Wade; and 2 half sisters, Mrs Clarence Pickerel and Mrs C A Post, all of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by – incomplete.
WADE. Died 13-03-1987. Harry Junior Wade, 65, of Jerseyville, died March 13 at St. Louis University Medical Center in St. Louis. He was born March 31, 1921, in Jerseyville to the late Harry & Rose (Gaffney) Wade. He married Lucille Young, November 21, 1941, in Ellsbury, Missouri. He was a veteran of WW II and yard foreman for Mundy Lumber & Supply Co. for 39 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, American Legion and VFW. Surviving are his wife, Lucille, of Jerseyville; son Gary Wade of Jerseyville; 2 sisters Annadelle Post and Bonnie Pickerel, both of Jerseyville; 1 brother Bill Wade of Jerseyville; 3 grandchildren and 1g-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and 1 sister. Visitation and services were at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev William Elder officiated at service. Burial and Military graveside rites were held by Jerseyville American Legion Post at Oak Grove Cemetery.
WADE. Died 19-07-1962. Heber Andrew Wade, 70 years, 7 months, and 12 days, a farmer residing NE of Jerseyville, died at his home June 19. His health had been impaired for some time. He was a son of the late William A & Elvira (Gorham) Wade, and was born in Jersey County, November 7, 1891. The decedent is survived by his wife, Mrs Mabel Ayers Wade; 3 sons, James A Wade of Shreveport, LA, Charles V Wade and Robert D Wade of Jerseyville; 10 daughters, Mrs Truman (Esther) Yocom and Miss Ruth Wade of Jerseyville, Mrs Eugene (Florence) Butler of New Lenox, Mrs Buford (Irene) Sample, Brighton, Mrs Arnold (Virginia) Wendt of Macomb, Mrs Edgar (Helen) Sunn of St. Louis, MO, Miss Laura Wade of Carbondale, Mrs Cecil (Mary) Stillar of Alton, Mrs Walter (Joyce) Plume of Wilmington, and Mrs Richard (Ida May) Anderson of Kane; 20 grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren, and 1 sister, Mrs Florence Barnes of Jerseyville. Two Sons, Everett Heber and Marion Lee Wade preceded him in death. Everett was killed in action in the Korean war. Mr Wade was a member of the Jerseyville Lodge #394 AF & AM, and Eagles Lodge of Jerseyville. Services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev James Barnett of Dow and Rev Mode Powell of Jerseyville officiated and Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
WADE. Died 11-03-1911. Hester A Wade, 87 years, 29 days, died at the home of her daughter Mrs Andrew Weeks, near Fieldon. The funeral services, which were attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends, were held from the C P Church at Fieldon Monday March 13. Rev Russel officiated and interment was in Fieldon Cemetery. She was one of 7 children of Mr & Mrs Wm E Rowden, and was born February 12, 1824, in Jersey County, where she resided all her life. She was married to Jacob McKinney in 1845. To This union were born 3 children, Henry McKinney who resides near Rosedale, Mrs Wm Turner of Breckenridge, OK, and Jacob McKinney of McGuire, MO. He died in 1851. In 1858 she was united in marriage to Henry R Wade of Richmond, VA. They were parents of 4 children, Albert and Eliza, having died in infancy, Frank Wade of Jerseyville, and Mrs Andrew Weeks of Fieldon. She is survived by 2 daughters, 3 sons, 26 grandchildren – incomplete.
WADE. Died 26-06-1982. James A Wade, 58, of Jerseyville, suffered a heart attack at his home and was dead on arrival at Jersey Community hospital on June 26. Wade was Born March 3, 1924 in E Newbern the son of Heber & Mabel (Ayers) Wade. He married Emmalu Zigenfuss February 27, 1948 in Alton. He served in the Army in WW II and was a roofing materials salesman. He was a member of the Jerseyville American Legion, VFW, a past master of Jerseyville Masonic Lodge and United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, 1 son, James Wade Jr, of Bunker Hill; 3 daughters, Millie Stout, Anderson, MO, Alyis Wade, Jerseyville and Julie Snider of Jacksonville; 2 brothers Charles Wade, Jerseyville and Robert Wade of Oklahoma and 10 sisters, Esther Yocom, Florence Butler, Mary Stillar and Ruth Cook, all of Jerseyville, Virginia Wende, Macomb, Irene Sample, Brighton, Helen Smith, St. Louis, MO, Laura Jamieson, Quincy, Joyce Plume, Wilmington and Ida Mae Anderson of Kane, and 4 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers. A memorial service was held June 28 at United Methodist Church, Rev R E George officiating. The body was cremated at Memorial Park in St. Louis, Missouri. The United Methodist Church has been designated as a memorial.
WADE. Died 26-07-1980. Mabel E. Wade, 82, of Jerseyville, died at Jersey Community hospital, on July 26. She was born December 10, 1897 in Brinkley, Arkansas, The daughter of Zadock & Ruth (Stone) Ayres. She married Heber Andrew Wade and he died June 19, 1962. She was a member of the Jerseyville Eastern Star #656, Jersey County Homemakers Ext, Creative Gardners of Jersey County and Gold Star Mothers. She sis survived by 10 daughters, Esther Yocom, Florence Butler, Mary Stiller and Ruth Cook all of Jerseyville, Irene Sample, Brighton, Virginia Wendt, Macomb, Helen Sunn, St. Louis, MO, Laura Jamieson, Quincy, Joyce Plume, Wilmington and Ida May Anderson of Kane; 3 sons, James and Charles of Jerseyville and Robert of Moore, OK; 27 grandchildren, 14 g-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Daniel Ayres of Port Richey, FL and Immanuel Ayres of Alton; 1 sister, Myrtle Watt of Alton. She was preceded in death by 2 sons, 1 grandchild, 1 sister and 4 brothers. Services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev James Boyer of Jerseyville Community Christian Church officiating. Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Jerseyville Community Christian church.
WADE. Died 21-10-1987. Nelson Wade, 61, died October 21, 1987 at his residence. A welder by trade, he was born in Welston, Missouri, son of the late Gilbert & Matilda (Santo) Wade. He married the former Peggy Weiss on August 30, 1952, in St. Louis, and she survives. Also surviving, are 3 daughters, Sandra Dabbs of Grafton, Tammy Penrod of Pacific, Missouri, and Cheryl Wade at home; 3 sons, Gilbert and Dennis Wade, both at home, and Gregory Wade of Pacific, MO; 4 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Estele Sheueman of Fenton, MO, and Dorothy Wodicker of Baldwin Park, CA; and 3 bros, Palmer, Harry and Melvin Wade, all of Fenton, Missouri. Services were conducted at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial was in Grimes Cemetery.
WADE. Died 12-01-1975. Rose Ann Wade, 80, died January 12 at Jersey Community hospital. Services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. She was born September 3, 1894 in Greene County, a daughter of William & Nancy Levina (Antrobus) Gaffney. Her Husband Harry Newton Wade, Preceded her in death. She is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs Clarence (Bonnie) Pickerel and Mrs Charles (Annadell) Post of Jerseyville; 1 son, Harry Wade, Jr, and 1 stepson, William Wade, Both of Jerseyville; 6 grandchildren; 9 g-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Mrs Ellen Brown, Jerseyville.
WADLOW. Died 00-00-1926. Bernice Wadlow, 26, former resident of Grafton, was laid to rest from Hartford church with Mrs M Meyer of Alton serving. She leaves her husband, Walter Wadlow, 4 small sons, her mother, Mrs Birdie Williams, 2 sisters of Wood River, her father, James Williams of Kansas City, KS and many friends.
WADLOW. Eula Wadlow, daughter of Walter & Minerva Wadlow, died October 17, and was buried in Meadow Branch grave yard Sunday the 18. Rev Thero preached the funeral.
WADLOW. Died 31-05-1989. George Wadlow Sr, 88, died May 31, 1989, at Greenwood Manor in Jerseyville, after a length illness. Wadlow retired in 1963 as a construction laborer. He was born in Jersey County, son of the late Otho & Lula (Vinson) Wadlow. On September 24, 1923, in Alton, he married the former Irene Cope, and she survives. Also surviving are 1 son, George “Bud” Wadlow Jr of Jerseyville; 4 daughters, Thelma Moore of Flint, MI, Peggy Ridenbark of Fieldon, and Opal Molohon and Susan Godar, both of Jerseyville; 24 grandchildren; 43 g-grandchildren; and 1 brother Howard Wadlow of Jerseyville. Preceding him in death were 1 son, Stewart Wadlow; 1 daughter, Anna DeSherlia; 1 brother, and 2 sisters. Visitation and service was held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Dave Cauley officiated and burial was in Fieldon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to charity of one’s choice.
WADLOW. Died 1965. Gustine Wadlow, 84, wife of Wm A Wadlow, died at her home in Alton, where she had lived for 42 years. She was born in Grafton, January 1, 1881. Her parents were Mr & Mrs Wm T Wallace. March 27, 1900, she married Mr Wadlow. Surviving are 1 daughter, Mrs Fred Shaw; 1 brother, Wm Leslie Wallace of Bethalto and 1 sister, Stella Freeman of Grafton. Rev Frank Marshall officiated with burial in Valhalla Cemetery.
WADLOW. Died 30-09-1991. Irene Wadlow, 83, died September 30, 1991, at her home, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Jersey County, November 25, 1907, a daughter of the late Ed “Heck” Cope & Dola (Ontis) Cope. She married George Wadlow Sr on September 24, 1923, in Alton. He died May 31, 1989. Surviving are 1 son George, “Bud” Wadlow Jr of Jerseyville; 4 daughters, Thelma Moore of Flint, MI, Opal Molohon and Susan Godar, both of Jerseyville, and Peggy Ridenbark of Fieldon; 24 grandchildren; 47 g-grandchildren; 11 g-g-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Grace Gunterman and Lucille Maples, both of Jerseyville. Preceding her in death were 1 son, Stewart Wadlow; 1 daughter, Anna Grace DeSherlia; and 1 brother, James Cope. Visitation and services were from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev David Cauley officiated. Burial was in Fieldon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Soc.
WADLOW. Died 08-06-1942. Lucy M Wadlow, 88 years, 6 months, 4 days, died at her home June 8, at her home following an extended illness. The deceased was born in Centerville, Missouri, December 4, 1853. She is survived by 5 sons, Otha of Nutwood, William Of Alton, Charles of Wilmington, CA, Edgar of Mobile, AL, and Halla of Otterville. Her husband Thomas Wadlow, and 1 son, Walter Preceded her in death; 1 sister, died some time ago in Piedmont, Missouri. Services were from Otterville Baptist Church, June 11. Rev Raymond Liles officiated and interment was in Meadow Branch Cemetery.
WADLOW. BORN 15-01-1897. Died 02-09-1984. Marguerite Wadlow, 87, died September 2. She was born in Grafton daughter of Charles & Elda (Todd) Rubel. In 1918 she married Cecil Wadlow and he died in 1968. They had owned Wadlow Funeral Home in Lincoln, NE. She leaves 1 son Richard of Laramie, Wy; 2 daughters, Janita Lapke, Scobey, MT and Lois Simon of Cherry Hill, NJ; 1 sister, Maurine Marshall of Columbus, OH; 7 grandchildren & 3 g-grandchildren. Funeral from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with Father Roy Bauer officiating. Burial was in Scenic Hill Cemetery.
WADLOW. Died 11-12-1954. Nancy M Wadlow, 76, wife of Halla Wadlow, died December 11 at her home in Otterville where she had resided the past 20 years. She was a daughter of the late Mr & Mrs Wiley Cooper and was born at Eldon, Missouri, August 7, 1878. Surviving in addition to her husband, are 3 sons Ephriam Wilson of Versailles, Missouri, David Wilson of MO and Manual Wilson of Tipton, KS, and 5 grandchildren. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Service was held at Otterville Baptist Church, Rev Avery Courtney, pastor, officiated and interment was in Otterville Cemetery.
WADLOW. Died 00-07-1966. Otho M Wadlow, died Thursday am at Jersey Community hospital. He had been a patient for 1 day. Funeral services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Carl Skilbeck of Otterville Baptist Church officiated and burial was in Rosedale Cemetery. He was born February 4, 1877 in Reynolds County, MO, a son of the late Thomas Franklin & Suzy M (Parks) Wadlow. He is survived by 2 sons, George & Howard Wadlow of Jerseyville; and 2 brothers, William of Alton and John of Mobile, AL; 11 grandchildren; and 24 g-grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death.
WADLOW. Died 05-01-1952. Sherman S Wadlow, 86, died January 5, at Mather Nursing Home in Alton. The Grafton resident had been a patient in Alton Memorial hospital following a stroke in November and was moved to the nursing home from there. Mr Wadlow had made his home with Mr & Mrs Robert Fosha of Grafton prior to his illness. He was preceded in death by his wife Nettie Wadlow. Surviving are 3 sons, Harold F of Alton, Walter of Jerseyville and Cecil of Lincoln, NE, and 2 daughters, Mrs Guy Horsley of Jackson Heights, NY, and Mrs Herman Greenwood of Tulsa, OK. He also leaves 2 sisters and 1 brother. Funeral services were held January 8, at Gent Funeral Home, Alton. Rev Carl D Mitchell, pastor of Main St. Methodist Church, Alton, officiated. Interment was in Meadow Branch Cemetery, Grafton.
WADLOW. Died 30-09-1084. Stewart L Wadlow Sr, 51, of Jerseyville, died September 30 at his home. He had been a driver of Kinestra for 28 years. He was born November 14, 1932 in Jersey County, son of George Sr & Irene (Cope) Wadlow who survive. Leaves wife, the former Beatrice Pruitt whom he married July 12, 1952 in Otterville; 3 daughters, Barbara R Carey of Grafton, Linda L McIntyre of Kingwood, TX and Theresa Powers of Grafton; 1 son Stewart L Wadlow, Jr of Jerseyville; 7 grandchildren; 4 sisters, Peggy Ridenbark and Susan Godar of Feldon, Opal Molohon of Jerseyville; Thelma Moore, Flint, MI; and 1 brother, George “Bud” Wadlow of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by 1 sister. Masonic Rites at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial was in Fieldon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Soc.
WADLOW. Died 1969. Wm A Wadlow, 91, died at his home, 818 Douglas, Alton. He had been a gauger? at Western Cartridge Co. Mr Wadlow was born in Reynolds County, MO, December 4, 1878. He married Gustina Wallace on March 27, 1900. Surviving are 1 daughter, Mrs Fred Shaw; 1 brother, John E Wadlow of Mobile, AL. Rev C H Collison of Presbyterian church officiated. Burial was in Valhalla Cemetery.
WAGENBLAST. Died 31-05-1988. George M Wagenblast, 70, died May 31, at Jersey Community hospital. The WW II US Army Veteran, was retired in 1977 as a boilermaker welder for Local 363 after 29 years service. Born in Brighton, he was the son of the late George & Dora (Kruse) Wagenblast. He married Mary Lewis October 1, 1945, in Brighton and she survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Jeanie Gansz of Brighton and Pam McAfee of shipman; 6 grandchildren; 1 sister, Elanor Wagenblast of Brighton; and 1 brother, Ed Wagenblast of Brighton. Visitation was at Targhetta Funeral Home where Masonic rites were conducted by Hibbard Masonic Lodge 249. Funeral services were at St. John United Church of Christ in Brighton. Rev Henry Lippert officiated. Burial was in Brighton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church where he was a member, of Brighton Unit of the ambulance service.
WAGENBLAST. Leon C Wagenblast, 72, died April 11, 1991, at St. John hospital in Springfield. Wagenblast, was a freelance welder and pipe fitter and had worked for Baldwin Nuclear Assoc. on the Clinton Nuclear Power Plant. He was a member of Pipefitters Local 351 of Muskogee, OK, Carrollton Knights of Columbus and Jerseyville Moose Lodge. He was born in Brighton on June 12, 1918, son of the late Louis C & Barbara (Whitman) Wagenblast. On April 27, 1946, in Alton, he married the former Jean (Boerner), and she survives. Also surviving are 3 daughters, Janet Longbotton of Alton, Joan Gillingham of Columbia, MO, and Patty Durrer of St. Louis; 1 son, Chris Wagenblast of Carrollton; 6 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Mildred Willis of Tooele, UT, Hilda Norton of Jerseyville and Ruth Carroll of Alton; and 1 brother, Elmer Wagenblast of Medora. Preceding him in death were 2 brothers, Russell and Victor Wagenblast. Visitation was from Airsman-Hires funeral home in Carrollton, with rosary at 7:30. The funeral Mass was at St. John Catholic Church in Carrollton with Rev Joseph O’Reilley, celebrant. Burial was in St. Patrick Cemetery Godfrey. Memorials may be given to church renovation fund or masses.
WAGENBLAST. Died 10-07-1985. Lester M Wagenblast, 83, of Alton, died July 10 at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville. He was born In Jersey County to the late Melchoir & Cinnie (Theen) Wagenblast. He was a retired security guard for Alton Boxboard Co. Survivors include nieces and nephews. Visitation was July 12 at Quinn Funeral Home in Alton with the Masonic service by Piasa Masonic Lodge #27. The funeral was July 13 at the funeral home with the Rev George Humbert officiating. Burial was in Brighton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in St. Louis.
WAGENBLAST. Matthew Wagenblast, 67, native of Germany and well known resident of the east side of Jersey County died at his home in Brighton. He came to America when 24 years of age. Funeral from German Evangelical church at Brighton. Burial in Brighton Cemetery.
WAGENBLAST. Died 01-06-1985. Paul D Wagenblast, 23, of Jerseyville was dead on arrival at Boyd Memorial hospital, Carrollton June 1 following a traffic accident. He was born July 8, 1961, in Jerseyville to Walter & Marilhyn (Cummings) Wagenblast. He graduated from Jersey Community High School and was engaged in grain and livestock farming with his father. He was a member of the Jerseyville Moose Lodge and St. Francis Xavier Church. WAGENBLAST. Died 13-09-1988. Russell L Wagenblast, 78, died September 13, at St. Anthony hospital in Alton. Wagenblast was a lifetime farmer. He was born in Brighton, son of the late Louis C & Barbara (Wittman) Wagenblast. On February 17, 1931, in Brighton, he married Nellie Mae (Elliot) Wagenblast and she survives. Also surviving are 1 son, Harold E Wagenblsat of Jerseyville; 3 daughters, Betty L Fessler of Godfrey, Carol Tirjan of Los Altos, CA, and Rosemary Milligan of Florissant, MO; 15 grandchildren; 24 g-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Elmer Wagenblast of Fidelity and Leon Wagenblast of Carrollton; and 3 sisters, Ruth Carroll of Alton, Hilda Norton of Jerseyville and Mildred Willis of Teoole, UT. She was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Barbara Edwards and 1 brother, Victor Wagenblast. Visitation and rosary were at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. WAGENBLAST. Sena Wagenblast, 47, died at her home February 25, 1907, She had had an ulcerated tooth. She was one of 12 children and was born in Alton August 7, 1859. She married Melchoir Wagenblast on March 19, 1878 and they were parents of 10 children. She was preceded in death by 3 sons and 1 daughter. Surviving are her husband; 3 sons, John, Lester, Everett; 3 daughters, Mrs Samuel Montague, Bertha and Hattie. She also leaves her mother, Mrs Theen; 2 brothers, Frederick and Theodore and 2 sisters Misses Mamie and Hannah of Alton. Funeral from Lutheran church in Brighton with Rev Richter officiating. Burial in Brighton Cemetery.

WAGGONER. Died 18-06-1983. Marion E Waggoner, 88, of Jerseyville, died June 18 at St. Joseph hospital, Alton. Funeral services were held June 20 at the United Methodist Church, Jerseyville. Rev R E George officiated and burial was in the Cemetery at Lebanon. She was born August 25, 1894 at Lebanon, the daughter of Edward B & Ella Mae (Cowen) Waggoner. Miss Waggoner was a teacher in the Kankakee High School for 15 years and Librarian at the Lebanon Library for 10 years where a room was dedicated in her memory. She retired 13 years ago and moved to Jerseyville where she made her home with her brother Morris Waggoner. She is survived by 1 brother, Morris Waggoner, Jerseyville; 1 sister, Beatrice Jones, Denver, CO and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 1 brother, 1 half-sister and 1 half-brother. Memorials may be given to Jerseyville Free Library or the Lebanon City Library.
WAGGONER. Died 00-06-1898. Mary Waggoner, 73, died at the home of Miss Nancy Spry. Mrs Waggoner had been a resident of Grafton for most of her life. Funeral at Hartford Church and burial was in Hartford Cemetery. Rev James Slaten officiated.
WAGGONER. Died 23-12-1907. Nina Jane Waggoner, 25 years, 5 months, 7 days, died at the home of her parents in Jerseyville on December 23, 1908. During her long illness of about 3 months, she was the recipient of floral offerings and other remembrances from her many friends who anxiously hoped for her recovery. She was the daughter of Dr & Mrs L T Waggoner was born in Jerseyville July 16, 1882. When a child she attended Hamilton School, Otterville. Afterward she attended Dixon Normal School, was a student in the Hanernan Medical College of Chicago. She graduated from Chicago Musical College in 1903. She took a post graduate course in the Beethoven Conservatory at St. Louis in 1904 from which in situation she won the Gold Medal for the high character of her work. To her the highest language was the harmony of sound. Since coming to Jerseyville to reside about 6 years ago, she had made many friends who grieved her untimely demise. Funeral services were held at the Waggoner residence on December 26th, with Rev W W Hicks officiating.
WAGGONER. Died 28-07-1986. Nina M Waggoner, 97, died July 28, at Jersey Care Center in Jerseyville. She was born in Newbern, daughter of the late William James & Anna (McDow) Chaplin. In October 1918, in St. Francisville, IL, she married Lacey Waggoner, and he died in August 1971. Surviving are 1 son, Richard Waggoner of Livingston, TX; and 2 grandsons. The memorial service was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev James Pepper officiated with burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Son of the late Carl & Anna (Schaffer) Wagner, he was born in Greene County and was a foreman for the Columbiana Seed Co. for 43 years, retiring in 1965. Survivors include his spouse, Irene (Whitlock) Wagner, whom he married March 10, 1930 in Carrollton; 1 son Kenneth of Wichita, KS; 4 grandchildren and 4 g-grandchildren. Visitation was at Airsman-Hires funeral home in Carrollton and services there were held by Rev William Schmidt of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Providence Cemetery. Mr Wagner was a son of the late Francis X & Barbara (Young) Wagner and was born at Grafton on August 25, 1894. He was a veteran of WW I. Surviving are his wife, Marjorie Wagner; 1 brother, Lawrence Wagner of Wood River and 4 sisters, Mrs Amelia McClintock of Wood River, Mrs Clara Clous of Cuba, MO, Mrs Adel Campbell of Grafton and Mrs Frances Krauss of Kampsville. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville and again at the home of his sister Mrs Orbert J Campbell, Grafton. Final services were held at St. Patrick Church in Grafton, December 23, with Father Michael Sheehy officiating. Interment was in Scenic Hill. Whalen Hill Post No 648, American Legion of Grafton held graveside services.
WAGNER. Kenneth Charles Wagner, 56, formerly of Godfrey, died March 21, 1992 at St. Clare hospital, Alton. Wagner retired in 1989 as a laborer for RCS Construction Company, Wood River, after 20 years of service. He was a US Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean war and Vietnam war and member of VFW Post 1308 and Labor Local 218, both of Alton. Born in St. Louis Co on March 23, 1935, he was a son of Dora (Benhardt) Wagner of Dow and the late Charles Wagner. On July 7, 1956, he married Anna (Rieger) Wagner at Elsah, and she survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Brenda Weaver of Nurnberg, Germany; 2 sons, Kenneth Wagner of Grafton and John Wagner of Elsah; 2 granddaughters; 2 sisters, Dolores Weis of Granite City and Jeanette Schuh of Dow; and 1 brother, Ronald Wagner of Grafton. 1 sister, Marjorie Wagner, preceded him in death. Visitation and services were from Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev James Endsley officiated and burial was in Elsah Cemetery. Wagner was a well-known in Grafton where he had operated the A&W Root Beer stand for about 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Lillie, 1 daughter, 1 son, 4 grandchildren, 2 g-grandchildren and 2 sisters, one of whom is Adele Campbell of Grafton.

She was born in Jersey County May 12, 1885 the daughter of James I & Alice (Cuddahey) Wahl. She is survived by 1 nephew, James W Wahl of Jerseyville; g-nieces and g-nephews. Her parents and 4 brothers preceded her in death. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville where Rosary was recited. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church with Fr R T Shea celebrant. Interment was in St. Francis Cemetery.
WAHL (no obituary). James Abel Wahl was born July 7,1881 died June 24,1944 He had four Wahl grandchildren who were buried in their urns at the foot of his grave in April 1957. They burned to death in the Wahl homeplace at Grafton on Oct 17,1956. They were: Irene, age 11; William, age 9; Norbert, age 7; and Homer, age 6. Mary Ann Callahan Wahl died in June 1921, a sister to Thomas Callahan. Olivia Sarah Main nee Wahl was born Aug 2,1908 and died July 14,1935. Born in Alton, Feb. 21, 1908, he was the son of the late Henry & Louise (McCann) Wahle. He married the former Dorothy (Rogers) on November 5, 1930, in Jerseyville. She survives. WAINWRIGHT. Died 31-12-1973. Harold Wainwright, 75, of Jerseyville, had been in failing health for the past 4 months. He was brought to Jersey Community hospital and transferred to Normandy Osteopathic hospital, St. Louis County, where he died December 31. Services were held at Warner Funeral Home, Brighton. Rev Richard Keim of Brighton officiated and burial was in the family plot in Oak Grove Cemetery, Jerseyville. He was born August 26, 1897, at Sweetwater, a son of the late Arthur & Eva (Lukens), Wainwright. He married Harriet (Voorhees) Wainwright at the Voorhees home on May 14, 1920. They had lived in Kansas City for a number of years where he was an interior decorator. Upon returning to Jersey County in 1946, Mr Wainwright was engaged in farming. He was a member of Piasa Methodist Church and had served on the Church Board for a number of years. Surviving are his wife; 2 granddaughters, Mrs Roger Mourning and Mrs Josaeph Cangelosi of Jerseyville; 1 g-grandson; and 2 brothers, Harry of Springfield and George of Kansas City. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Mrs Marjorie Coleman, March 27, 1971; 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

Born in Greene County, IL daughter of the late Christopher & Cora Weller. She married George Wainwright September 14, 1935 in Kane, who survives. WALKER. Died 00-05-1918. John A Walker, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs Wm Stone near Jalappa. He was born in Deavertown, Morgan County, Ohio, February 5, 1853. He spent the early part of his life on a farm in Ohio. At the age of 12 the family moved to Jerseyville where they lived until 1867, when they returned to Ohio. In 1879 he returned to Jerseyville and was employed as a printer on the Democrat then published by Burr & Wheelock. Employed at printing offices in Greene Co. In 1885 he and J A Blennerhasset conducted the first daily paper in Jersey County, “The Daily Times”. Mr Walker became sole owner of the paper during its brief existence. At the time of his death he conducted a job with a printing office in the Beatty building. In 1877 he married Susie (Sapp), adopted daughter of Judge Wright, of Carrollton, IL. They were parents of 5 children, 2 sons, George W Walker of Jerseyville and Lawrence Walker of Columbus, OH, and 2 daughters, Mrs Wm Stone, of Jalappa and Mrs Joseph Arnold of Nokomis, survive. His spouse died October 19, 1916. Mr Walker’s funeral was from Presbyterian church with Rev W S Neely officiating. He was a member of A. Steelman Camp, #3410 MWA.
WALKER. Died 11-04-1976. Mabel Edna Walker, 60, of Jerseyville, died April 11 at her home. She was born November 20, 1915 in Rosedale, a daughter of William & Iva Grace (Harrison) Tucker. Surviving are her husband, Ralph Walker; 4 daughters, Mrs Albert (Grace) Stamps and Mrs David (Alice) Roth of Brighton, Mrs Curtis (Jesse) Fee, E Alton, Mrs Juanita Lauck, Springfield; her mother, Mrs Iva Tucker of Jerseyville; 7 grandchildren; and 4 g-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs Paul (Velma) Meyer and Mrs Herb (Marie) Scott of Jerseyville; 2 brothers, Freeman Tucker of Godfrey and Gale Tucker of E Alton. Her father, 1 daughter, and 2 brothers preceded her in death. Memorials may be given to Illinois Kidney Foundation, Springfield Liaison, Springfield, IL.
WALKER. Died 12-04-1926. Mary Walker, 25, daughter of Walter J & Althea C Post, was born in Jerseyville, July 23, 1900. She died April 12, 1926. On Easter Sunday, 1912, Mary, her brother Clark, and more than 50 others were received into First Methodist Church, Jerseyville. Coming into Los Angeles, she became a member of Echo Park Methodist Church. She graduated from JTHS in 1918. On May 16, 1925 she married Walter J Walker. Surviving are her husband, father, mother and brother. Rev W C Botkin, who performed their marriage was in charge of the funeral held in The Little Church of the Flowers. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale just outside Los Angeles.
WALKER. Died 18-02-1990. Mary Louise “Tillie” Walker, 75, died February 18, at Jerseyville Care Center. Born in Alton, she was the daughter of the late Foster & Sofrona (Glowner) Scoggins. She married Walter Walker, July 5, 1966, in Camdenton, MO, and he survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Deloris Peterbaugh of Jerseyville; 1 son, George V German of Jerseyville; 7 grandchildren; 8 g-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Virginia Miller and Emma Talley, both of Jerseyville and Ethel Glowner of Mississippi; and 1 brother, Middleton “Mid” Scoggins of Brighton. Preceding her in death were a son John Louis German; 1 daughter, Ethel Ann German; 3 brothers, Mike Scoggins and Ernie and Ervin Meeks; and 2 sisters, Daisy Scott and Lavina Scoggins. Visitation and services were held from Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Robert Prettyman officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to First Assembly of God Church or House of Glory, both in Jerseyville of the American Cancer Soc.

Surviving are Jean Walker of Grafton, Violet Edwards of Centralia, formerly of Grafton & Pearl Fowler of Webster Groves, Mo; 6 grandchildren and 7 g-grandchildren. Services were held at New Bethel Church, Pocahontas, MO with burial in the church cemetery.

Walker was born March 25, 1910 in Illinois, the son of Lewis & Gertrude (McCann) Walker. He married Mabel Tucker, July 4, 1932 and she died April 11, 1976. Surviving are 4 daughters, Mrs Grace Stamps, Brighton, Mrs Jessie Fee, Cottage Hills, Mrs Juanita Lauck, Springfield and Mrs Alice Roth, Jerseyville; 1 sister, Mrs Hilda Blasa, Dow; 8 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 5 g-grandchildren and 2 step-g-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter and 1 brother. He was a member of Jerseyville Moose Lodge #695, Piasa Cage Bird Club and Missouri Cage Bird Club. Visitation and services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville on September 23. Rev Louis Kapplerf officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

WALKER. Died 13-07-1988. Shayne Jean Walker, 16, of Grafton, died July 13, at St. Louis University Medical Center, St. Louis. She was Born November 24, 1971, in Alton, daughter of Rodney Walker & Sandra (Flynn) Walker. She was a senior at Jersey Community High and was a band member. Surviving are her parents; 2 brothers Rodney Jr, and Jay De at home; maternal grandfather, George A Flynn of Meredosia; paternal grandparents, Donal & Coralee Calvey of Pittsfield; maternal g-grandmother, Lena Ruyle of Merdeosia. WALKER. Died 13-03-1947. William A Walker, a native of Otterville, died March 13 at his home in Alton where he has resided for the past 44 years. He had been confined to his bed since suffering a stroke. He was the son of the late Mr & Mrs William A Walker, and was born on a farm near Otterville where he spent the early years of his life. He moved to Alton in 1903 where he accepted a position with Standard Tilton Milling Co. He was employed by the company for 36 years. Surviving are his widow Mrs Lucy (Frank) Walker, a former resident of Greene County; his stepmother, Mrs Mary J Walker of White Hall; 2 half-brothers, Ezra Walker of Mattoon and Aaron Walker of White Hall; and 2 half-sisters, Mrs Mary Campbell and Mrs Grace Barrow of Roodhouse.

He had been a resident of Jersey County for many years. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Leslie & Elizabeth (Tongate) King, and was born in Palmyra, IL, September 6, 1877. The deceased was the widow of Ellsworth Walkington; he died in 1936. Mr Walkington was employed for many years in the drugstore in Jerseyville owned and operated by Frank M Ware. She had served as city clerk for 10 years prior to her retirement in 1976. She had formerly served as chief deputy in the offices the Jersey County treasurer and Jersey County Clerk. She was born in Palmyra February 19, 1910, a daughter of Chester & Maude (Grimmit) Range. Mrs Walkington was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church, past matron Order of Eastern Star and was a member of the Jerseyville Business and Professional Women’s Club and Daughters of the American Revolution. Surviving are her husband, Lindell (Buck) Walkington whom she married May 1, 1929 in Bethalton; daughter, Mrs James (Shirlee) Palmer of Colorado Springs, Co; 2 sons, Harold Lee Walkington of Boulder, Co and Robert A Walkington of Jerseyville; 8 grandchildren; her mother Mrs Range; and 1 brother, Harold Range of Atlanta, GA. Funeral service was held February 4, at First United Presbyterian Church with Rev M Edwards Breed officiating. Visitation was from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. WALLACE. Died 05-08-1977. Gary “Mike” Wallace, 15, died unexpectedly August 5 at St. Elizabeth hospital in Granite City. An autopsy is being performed. Services were conducted August 8 from Staten Funeral Home, Alton, with Rev Leonard Lochchass officiating. He was a son of Marilyn Wallace of Jerseyville and a student at Illini Jr High School. Also surviving are his father and step-mother, Mr & Mrs Douglas Wallace of Granite City; 3 sisters, Laura Kadell, Jerseyville, Toni of Jerseyville and Sherri Finney of Centralia; and 4 brothers, Douglas and Rodger of Melvin, Larry of Alton and Tracey of Granite City.
WALLACE. Died 1907. James Thomas Wallace, son of Nicholas & Catherine Wallace, was born in Jerseyville, April 9, 1865. On June 30, 1887, he married Bettie E Carr who with their only child, Lester E Wallace survives. For several years, he had lived in Kansas City, Missouri, E St. Louis and Monmouth. His mother and 1 sister, Mrs M Cockrell of Chicago, are only surviving members of the family of Nicholas & Catherine. He was a good husband and father, genial and friendly, generous, and a lover of music. She was an aide at the state hospital and Norberry Private Sanitarium, both in Jacksonville and Beverly Farm in Godfrey, retiring in 1968. Born on March 28, 1898, in Grafton, she was the daughter of the late Otto & Maria (Criswell) Allen. On May 10, 1925, she married Raymond E Wallace. He died June 1, 1963. Surviving are 1 daughter, Vivian Ridenour of Alton; 2 sons, Clyde “Tex” Wallace of Alton and Raymond Wallace of Fidelity; 19 grandchildren; 29 g-grandchildren; and 2 g-g-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 1 son Herschel Wallace; 1 brother, Lawrence Allen; and 4 sisters, Gertrude Beneke, Addie Noble, Della Duncan and Ollie Allen. Rites Monday for Mrs. Henry WALLACE. Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Wallace whose death occurred Saturday at her home near Grafton after a week’s illness of pneumonia, were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Grafton Methodist church. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Mrs. Wallace was before her marriage, Mary Angeline DAVIS. She was born in Jersey county. On June 4, 1899, she was married to Henry Wallace and to this union twelve children were born. Mrs. Wallace is survived by her husband and then children, Raymond of Alton, Perry of Grafteon, Mrs. Leslie CARPUNKY of East Alton, Leonard of Grafton, Claude of Alton, Mrs. Lewis LOCKARD of East Alton, Mrs. Lloyd BLASA of the Grafton vicinity, Lewis, Durward and Irma of Grafton, and 15 grandchildren. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Charles DAVIS and Mrs. James HORNER of Grafton, Mrs. William FRANZ of Jerseyville, Mrs. Viola HAWKINS and Harry DAVIS of Dow. Mrs. Mary Angeline Wallace, wife of Henry Wallace, died at her home near Grafton, Saturday, June 8, following an illness of four days duration. Death resulted from hypostatic pneumonia. Funeral services were held at the Grafton Methodist church Monday afternoon, June 10, at 2:30 oclock, Rev. P. L. Glotfelty officiating. Interment was in the I. O. O. F. Cemetery.Mrs. Wallace was the daughter of the late William and Mary E. Myers Davis and was born at Grafton on May 27, 1881. At the time of her death she was 54 years and 11 days old. Besides her husband, Mrs. Wallace is survived by six sons, Raymond, Perry, Leonard, Louis and Durward Wallace of Grafton and Claude Wallace of East Alton, and four daughters, Mrs. Lester Carpunky and Mrs. Louis Lochard, of East Alton and Mrs. Lloyd Blasa and Miss Irman Wallace of Grafton. One daughter, Mrs. Roe Legate, and an infant child preceded her in death.
WALLACE. Died 17-08-1897. Mrs Enoch Wallace, 67, died August 17 after a long illness of cancer. Only named decedent, Miss Mattie Bray of Chicago, her niece attended the funeral. Burial was in Grafton Cemetery.
WALLACE. Nancy Wallace, 112?, was born near mouth of Apple Creek, on the Illinois River when Jersey, Greene and Scott County, were known as the NW Territory. She claimed she was 112 years old and if this was true, she was born in the 19th century. Her mother was a full blood Indian and her father Colored. Others of the colored people of her acquaintance think she was not as old as she claimed. She did live in a romantic age, from the days of savagery and forest where wild animals roamed at will and great danger of the white man losing his scalp from an Indian Tomahawk. She joined Mount Olive Baptist church in Jerseyville. She married William Wallace about 1850. They were parents of 4 children. Her husband and 3 children preceded her in death. Mrs Waddle is the only one of the family that remains. Aunt Nancy was known by nearly everyone in Jerseyville and 40 years ago was one of the best known of the colored people in this part of the state. She gave her eldest son, William, in defense of the country in the Civil War. She died June 25, 1909. The burial was from Mt Olive church, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. Rev Stephen Catt officiated.

She had been a clerk at Bill’s Market in Grafton and worked in the house keeping department at Principia College in Elsha. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Godfrey. Surviving are 1 daughter, Joyce DiCenzo, yndhurst, OH; 11 grandchildren; 4 g-grandchildren; 1 g-g-grandchild; 1 brother, Jesse Watts of Peoria; and 3 sisters, Verna Dillon, E Alton, Ethel Allen of Mesa, AZ, and Edna Krause of Jerseyville. Preceding her in death were a daughter, Charlene Wallace; 1 son, Paul Wallace; 1 sister; and 12 brothers. WALLACE. Wilbur W Wallace, 76, former Grafton resident, died November 1, 1988 at St. Anthony hospital, Alton. Wallace managed Grafton Bus Lines during WW II and was Grafton police chief 25 years. For 19 years, he was head of the maintenance department for Jersey Community Unit District 100 before retiring. He was born in Grafton, son of the late Alva & Birdie (Wilson) Wallace. On February 25, 1933, in Edwardsville, he married Nora (Watts) Wallace, and she survives. WALLACE. Died 27-08-1988. William Mason Wallace, 78, of Ft Meyers, FL, formerly of Dorsey, died August 27 at Lee hospital in FT Meyers. Wallace retired in 1972 from the repair shop of Owens-Il. Glass Company of Alton, after 14 1/2 years of service. For 20 years he had farmed in Dorsey. Born in Grafton, his parents were the late Charles Edgar & Dolly (Gowin) Wallace. On March 16, he married Dorothy Elder, in St. Charles, Missouri, and she survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, LaVerne Keezer of Saratoga, CA and Monica Bantari of San Andreas, CA; 1 granddaughter; and 1 sister, Leona Baird of Wood River. 4 bros, Wesley, Earl, Winfred and Clayton Wallace preceded him in death. He had been confined to his home since a fall on the ice, 2 years ago, resulting in a hip fracture. He was born in Jersey County, September 20,1880, son of Matthew & Ellen (Long) Walsh. He was educated in the local schools and for a number of years taught in the rural school system of the county. At the time of death he was a trustee of St. Francis Church. Mr Walsh is survived by his wife, Alice M Walsh, 1 brother, James Walsh of Jerseyville, and nieces and nephews. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held October 19, at St. Francis Church where the Requiem Mass was celebrated by Fr William Maul. Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery.

He was a son of the late James & Bridget (Farrell) Walsh, and was born in Jersey County, February 1, 1869. Mr Walsh had carried the mail on a rural route served by Jerseyville post office for 25 years. He retired March 1, 1934. For 40 years he had been a trustee of St. Francis Xavier Church and was a member of the Jerseyville Chapter, Knights of Columbus. She was a daughter of the late John & Mary (Hoynes) Barron and was born in Jersey County, July 9, 1880. Her death occurred 3 days before her 74th birthday. She was educated in the local schools and prior to the opening of the Jersey State Bank, she served as private secretary for 4 years to the late Senator Theodore S Chapman. Upon the opening of the bank in 1903, she became its first assistant cashier. she continued in this position until her marriage to Mr Walsh in 1916. Mrs Walsh is survived by 2 daughters, Miss Julia Marie Walsh and Miss Helen Walsh; 1 brother, Edward Barron of St. Louis and 1 nephew, John R Barron of St. Louis. WALSH. Died 22-12-1935. Mary Ilean Walsh, 52, wife of Martin Walsh, prominent Jersey County farmer, died at her home S of Jerseyville, December 22. Over exertion brought on by Christmas preparations is thought to have caused the death of Mrs Walsh. She had been in Poor Health for some time but Saturday had motored to Grafton and Jerseyville where she met many relatives and friends. She retired Saturday evening and shortly after complained of being ill. The Dr was summoned but medical aid was of no avail. She went into a coma several hours after being stricken and failed to rally. She was the daughter of Patrick O’Donnell and the late Elizabeth (Mays) O’Donnell of Grafton and was born June 24, 1883, in Jersey Co. She was married in Grafton 20 years ago. Before her marriage she had taught school at Dow & Batchtown. Mrs Walsh was active in the work of Jersey County Farm Bureau until her health prohibited her from attending meetings. Surviving are her husband, 1 son Martin, and 1 daughter, Bernadette, both students at Jersey Township High; her father Patrick O’Donnell of Grafton; 3 brothers, Charles O’Donnell of Sheffield, AL, and Francis and John O’Donnell of Grafton; 6 sisters, Mrs J C Leady of E St. Louis, Mrs Donald Bergmann and Miss Monica O’Donnell of Chicago and Misses Catherine Elizabeth and Margaret O’Donnell of Grafton. WALTER. Fay Elizabeth Walter, 81, of Medora, died July 30, 1985 at Garnett Chateau Nursing Home, Jerseyville. Born in Medora, daughter of the late David E & Minerva Bell (Souders) Wheat, she married Elmer John Walter, who died in June 1970. Survivors include 2 nieces and 2 nephews. There was no visitation and services were conducted at Warner-Targhetta Funeral Home in Medora. The body was donated to medical science. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Soc.
WALTER. Died 03-1927. George Walter, 66, a former well-known Jersey County farmer, was stricken with paralysis on Wednesday at his home in Alton and his death followed on Thursday. His entire side was affected by the stroke. He formerly resided near Medora. He was born in Alsace Loraine and came to America when a young man, settling in Jersey County, where he resided for 25 years. He was married to Miss Henrietta Gilworth. Besides his widow, he is survived by 3 sons, Louis, McDonald, KS, George and Russell of Alton; 4 daughters, Mrs William Hale, Haddenfield, NJ, Mrs Harry Everetts, Misses Ruth and Dorothy Walter, all of Alton. Funeral services were held from First Baptist church of Alton, where he was a member. Rev Truex officiated and burial was in Grandview mausoleum in Alton Cemetery.
WALTERS. Died 04-08-1981. Roy W Walters, 85, of R1 Medora died August 4 at Alton Memorial hospital. Services were held at Warner-Targhetta Funeral Home with Rev Guy Hardin officiating. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. He was a retired farmer and WW I Veteran. He was born in Indiana, a son of the late Isaac & Emma Walters. Surviving are his wife, Vivian (Barnett) Walters; 3 daughters, Louise Cochran of Greenfield, June Huff, Godfrey and Esther Loy of Jerseyville; 2 sons, Paul of Colorado Springs, CO, and Darrell of Medora; 15 grandchildren and 12 g-grandchildren; and 4 sisters including Orva Warner of Hardin.
WALTHER. Died 24-11-1956. Frederick (Fred) Walther, 77, a retired pattern maker for General Steel Castings Corp of Granite City. Mr Walther had been in his usual health Saturday and was working about his home when he was taken suddenly ill. The Gubser ambulance was called and Mr Walther’s death occurred in transit. His home was in Otterville and he was dead on arrival at Jersey Community hospital. The decedent was a son of the late Frederick & Johanna (Steingruben) Walther and was born February 19, 1879, at Liebensteadt, Baden, Germany. When 3 years old he came with his parents to the US and they settled at Denver, IA. Mr Walther had been a resident of Jersey County since 1931. He retired 2 years ago from his occupation in Granite City. Surviving are his wife, Louise Walther of Otterville, 2 sons, Arnold and Herman Walther of Grafton, 2 daughters, Mrs Ray Hare of Seaside, Ca, and Mrs Julius Freeman of Rochester, NY, 6 grandchildren, 3 brothers, August and Carl Walther of Denver, Ia, and Phillip Walther of Waterloo, Ia; and 1 sister, Mrs Caroline Bloeser of Denver, Ia. Visitation and service were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Arthur O Kaul, pastor of Hope Lutheran Church, officiated. The body was then sent to A E Mathias Funeral Home in Denver, Ia, where services were held and burial was in Denver Cemetery, Denver, Ia.
WALTHER. Died 22-02-1956. Oscar Walther, 49, suffered a paralytic stroke at his home on Wednesday and died shortly after his arrival at Jersey Community hospital. He had been in failing health for 3 years. He was a son of Fred W & Louise (Brandenburg) Walther, and was born in Deocrah, IA, February 13, 1906. Surviving are his parents, 2 brothers, Herman and Arnold Walther of Grafton; 2 sisters, Mrs Ray Hare of Seaside, CA, and Mrs Julius Freeman of Rochester, NY; 3 nephews and 3 nieces. Visitation was from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at Hope Lutheran Church, Jerseyville, February 26, with Rev Arthur O Kaul officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
WALTON. Died 16-03-1980. Audrey W Walton, 89, Alton, Formerly of Jerseyville died March 16, at St. Anthony hospital. She was born in Chesterfield August 17, 1890, the daughter of George & Mary (Long) Wright. She married Perley Walton and he preceded her in death in 1954. She was a school teacher in Springfield. Surviving are 3 daughters, Peggy Milford, Alton, Marvene Weissenfluh, Hope Sound, Fl and Mae Flamm of Elgin; 2 sons, Budde Walton of Quincy and Robert Walton of Kansas City, Mo; 9 grandchildren, 21 g-grandchildren and 2 g-g-grandchildren; and 1 brother Ernest B Wright of Chesterfield.

WALZ. Balbina Walz, 72, died June 7, 1915. She was the youngest of 12 Wiiest children, all of whom preceded her in death. She was born at Schwalldarf, circuit Rottenburg, Wuertemberg, Germany. In March 1871, she married Christian Walz and in the following Dec, they immigrated to America and settled on a farm 3 miles w of Fieldon. She had 6 daughters, Mrs Mary Bauer of E Alton, Mrs Louisa Schultheis of Fieldon, Mrs Therese Wiiest of Fieldon, Mrs Sophia McCoy of Rosedale, Mrs Perry Shaw, Jerseyville and Bertha Walz. Her husband died October 22, 1882. On August 1, 1902, she moved to Fieldon and lived there until her death. She leaves 6 children and 15 grandchildren. WALZ. Died 08-08-1970. Carolyn Faye Walz, 30 years, 6 months, 12 days, was a daughter of Mrs Edna (Martin) Gray of Jerseyville and the late Mack Gray. She was born in Hartford. Carolyn was the wife of John Walz of Jerseyville and mother of 9 year old Cynthia Kay who has a bone condition which has caused her to incur between 25-30 bone fractures. She died at Barnes hospital, St. Louis on August 8. She had been in ill health for some time. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev L E Hutchinson, pastor of the State St. Baptist Church, officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. WALZ. Died 18-06-1959. Fred Jacob Walz, 79 years, 10 months, 25 days, a retired Jersey County farmer, died June 18, at Waters Nursing Home in Jerseyville. He had been a resident there for 18 months. Mr Walz was born in Jersey County, July 23, 1879, a son of the late Jacob & Catherine (Heim) Walz. He is survived by 2 sons, Fred G Walz, Jr, Jerseyville and Robert M Walz of Alton; 4 daughters, Mrs Marvin Isringhausen and Mrs Cornelius Halter of Jerseyville, Mrs George Tohill of Wood River, and Mrs John Ewin of Fosterburg; 25 grandchildren. 14 g-grandchildren, and 1 sister, Mrs Calvin Bright, Jerseyville. Two daughters, Mrs Dwight Holtman and Mrs Samuel Rice preceded him in death. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at Peace Evangelical & Reformed Church, officiated by Rev Alton Loar on June 20. Burial was in Fieldon Cemetery.
WALZ. Gerald Frederick “Fred” Walz, 76, died July 13, 1988, at St. Luke’s West hospital, Chesterfield, MO. He was a crane operator at Laclede Steel Company, Alton, retiring in 1976. Born in Fieldon, he was the son of the late Jacob & Alta (Bright) Walz. He married Ruth (Crane) Walz, May 5, 1934, in Alton and she survives. Also surviving are 4 sons, James Walz of Jerseyville, Mike Walz, Glen Carbon and Richard and Pat Walz, both of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Ruth Lamb of Alton and Martha Hankins, Collinsville; 11 grandchildren; 4 g-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Mary Halter, Jerseyville and Balbina Tohill, Bethalto. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Nellie Isringhausen and Irene Ewin; and 2 half sisters, Minnie Holtman and Katherine Rice. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were at Peace United Church of Christ, Jerseyville with Rev Rick Francis officiating. Burial was in Fieldon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church where he had been a member.

WALZ. Died 14-11-1983. John “Jack” Walz, 48, died Sunday in the emergency room of Jersey Community hospital. He was born in Greene County, son of Virginia (Scoggins) Miller of Jerseyville and the late John Walz. He was a veteran and was employed as an electrician at McDonnell Douglas. He married Carolyn (Gray) Walz and she died August 8, 1970. He married his 2nd wife, Adelene Armstrong on June 21, 1971 and she survives. Also surviving are his stepfather, James ” Clarke” Miller, Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Cynthia Walz, Jerseyville and Kathy Foiles of Plainview; 2 sons, Gary and Randy Woolsey; 3 Grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary Lou Toey of Carrollton and Lula Williams of Jerseyville; and 1 brother, Ronnie Miller of Joshua, Tx. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services were conducted by Rev L E Hutchinson. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

WANDREI. Died 17-09-1959. Philip August Wandrei, 73, died September 17, at his home North of Jerseyville, following an extended illness. Funeral services were held on September 20, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Mr Lowell Manchester of Pearl, Illinois, officiated and burial was in Fieldon Cemetery. He was born in Cartwright, WI, September 23, 1885, a son of the late John A & Isabelle (Skinner) Wandrei. Mr Wandrei was engaged in farming in southern Jersey County before moving to Jerseyville. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs Minda Wandrei; 1 daughter, Mrs John Springman of Jerseyville; 5 grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren; 1 step grandau, 2 step g-grandchildren, and 2 sisters, – incomplete.
WARD. John J Ward, 76, was born February 4, 1855 and died 1931. Funeral by Klunk Funeral Home, Alton. Burial was in Newbern Cemetery. Surviving are 3 daughters, Mrs James Butler, Mrs Bruce Harper and Mrs Ivan Meyers; and 3 sons, John, Paul and Lacey.
WARD. Died 04-1884. Dr Jonas Lutellas Ward, 64, died at Jersey House in Jerseyville. Dr Ward was the third of a family of 6, born in Licking County, OH, November 29, 1821. His parents, Johan & Elizabeth Ward were natives of Virginia. His Grandfather was French (on Mother’s side), and English on Father’s side. Both had served in the revolution, one of thembeing wounded at the battle of Yorktown and the other losing a foot by freezing at Valley Forge. His father was in the War of 1812. Dr Ward graduated from Ohio Medical College in 1846, and 1849, he moved to Fieldon and was there until 1867. He then moved to Brussels, Calhoun County and back to Jersey County in 1871. He married Mrs Margareta Selby, mother of Thomas J Selby. She died last year in Jerseyville. There were 5 children. He was a jovial, happy person.
WARD. Died 05-1906. Newton M Ward, 23, was returning from Jerseyville to his home in Dow Saturday pm, when he met a with a fatal accident. In company with a companion, he was riding on a coal car on the Chicago, Peoria and St. Louis, Ry., when he remarked “I am going back to the caboose to get in out of the rain.” This was about 11 pm. Nothing more was heard of him until 8 am, Sunday when Wm Abein, who resides on the Dalzell farm, went out to drive his stock from the pasture, he heard the cries of the young man in the weeds near the crossing. He went to the place and found Ward with his left leg crushed between the knee and ankle. Abein went to the house of Walter B Cory, who notified agent Whitenack; Dr J S Williams, the company’s surgeon, was informed and a hand car sent to the scene of the accident. The young man was brought to the office of Dr Williams. Drs Williams, Gledhill and Bohannon amputated his limb. It is supposed that in getting from the flat to the box car that he slipped and fell under the wheels with the above result. Ward lived until 9:30 Sunday pm. Funeral services were held from the M E Church at E Newbern, Rev S Albrecht, of Elsah, officiating.
WARDEIN. Died 03-1918. Lawrence Wardein, died at Belletrees recently. Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Church, Alton. Father J B Wardein of Meppin, Illinois, a son of the deceased, served.
WARE. Died 08-1905. Mrs George W Ware, 66, died at her home in Jerseyville. Funeral service was from her home. Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield. Surviving are her husband, 1 sister, 1 daughter, Emily, wife of Dr M W Pickard, 1 granddaughter, Julia of Kansas City, MO; 2 step-daughters, Mrs Charles Keith, Denver, CO and Mrs Edward Cross, Jerseyville; 1 step-son, Frank Ware of this city. Mrs Ware was a daughter of General Jacob Fry, he early associated with early history of IL. Gen Fry was born in KY in 1799, son of a Revolutionary soldier. At age of 20, he settled in Greene County and built first dwelling in the town of Carrollton. He was elected to the office of sheriff in 1828. Served in war of 1812. Some years after close of Indian wars. Col Fry was Brigadier-Gen and Major-Gen of IL State Militia. In 1836 he was appointed commissioner of IL & MI Canal and moved with family to Lockport where he served until 1846. In 1850 he started for the gold fields of CA, where he lived some years. He returned to IL and located at Ottawa. He was appointed collector of the port of Chicago. He relocated in Greene County where he had land interests. When the Civil War broke out, he organized the 61st Regiment of Illinois Volunteer infantry and received appointment of Colonel. The old Fry homestead is located 6i miles S of Carrollton and is now owned by Thomas S Parker. Gen Fry married Emily (Turney) Fry and they were blessed with 5 children; 2 sons, James, a graduate of West Point and William M; 3 daus Sarah, Julia A and (unnamed). Sarah survives.
WARE. Died 01-08-1983. Frances L Ware, 73, of Providence, RI, died August 1 in Rhode Island. She was born on October 15, 1909 in Jerseyville to the late Frank & Nellie (Osborne) Ware. Only Cousins survive. Graveside rites were conducted August 10 at Oak Grove Cemetery. Rev Simon A Simon officiated. Miss Ware had been director of dietetics at the Rhode Island hospital and was president and delegate of the Rhode Island Dietetic Assoc. She was named Dietician of the year in Rhode Island and had received an Award of Merit at Lindenwood College in 1966. She had served Rhode Island hospital for 27 years and had retired in 1975. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church of Jerseyville.
WARE. Died 13-07-1956. Frank Munson Ware, 81 years, 11 months, 13 days, retired Jerseyville druggist and a member of an early well-known Jersey County family, died July 13, in the Rhode Island hospital, Providence Rhode Island. Mr & Mrs Ware had been making their home in Providence the past year where their daughter, Miss Frances Ware, is director of dietetics in Rhode Island hospital. He was a son of the late George W & Theodosia (Beardsley) Ware and was born in Jerseyville, on July 30, 1874. The ware family had been associated with the business life of Jerseyville for 90 years. Mr Ware’s father, a pioneer druggist began business here in 1856. The ware name was removed from the business roster in 1946 when Frank M Ware sold his business to Thrifty Drug Company of Alton, who continue to operate the business firm in the same location at the corner of E Pearl & South State St. At the age of 15 Mr Ware started to work for his father. In 1890 the elder Mr Ware sold his business to G R Smith who moved the firm to another location. George Ware re-opened a drug store in 1891 and the firm was known as Ware & McCauelley. This business was sold in March, 1892, to W S Pittman Drug Company and Frank Ware Continued with the new firm. Mr Ware had attended the University of Illinois school of Pharmacy in Chicago in 1897-98. He passed the Illinois State Board on May 23, 1898, being one of 10 of a class of 100 to pass the exam. His father was the 64th registered pharmacist in Illinois and Frank Ware was the 10,000th registered pharmacist in the state. Following his graduation he worked for Remer & DuHadway in Jerseyville and for a time was in the employ of Read Brothers in Quincy. In1899 he became associated with his father in the firm of Ware & Son, and in 1902 the business was moved to the corner of State & Pearl. After the death of the sr. Mr Ware, his son continued the business until his retirement in 1946. Mr Ware married Nellie (Osborne) Ware, daughter of the late Francis & Martha (Legg) Osborne, on October 9, 1901. The celebrated their 50th Ann at an open house in 1951. Surviving are his wife; daughter, Miss Frances Ware, and 1 nephew, Atty Hugh W Cross. of Jerseyville. The body arrived in Jerseyville and was taken to Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Final rites were held there on July 17, conducted by Rev M Edwards Breed, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Jerseyville. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
WARE. Died 26-12-1967. Nellie Ware, longtime resident of Jerseyville, before going to Rhode Island, died December 26, in Greenville, RI. She had had an extended period of ill health. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where Rev M Edwards Breed, pastor of First Presbyterian Church officiated at final rites. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. She was born in Jersey County, June 6, 1875, a daughter of the late Francis & Martha (Legg) Osborne. During her residency here, Mrs Ware was active in the Jerseyville Chapter, Eastern Star, and was a past Worthy Matron of the Chapter. She was also active in Woman’s Club work. Surviving is 1 daughter, Miss Frances L Ware of Providence, RI. Her husband, the Late Frank M Ware Operated the Corner Drugstore, now known as Kranich Drug, in Jerseyville for many years. Mr Ware and 1 daughter, Martha T Ware preceded her in death.
WARFORD. Died 22-08-1958. Rufus Clinton (Jim) Warford, 53, died August 22 at Barnes hospital, St. Louis, of injuries suffered in a 70-foot fall from a cliff while vacationing in the Ozarks. The Grafton man had undergone major surgery for correction of internal injuries suffered in the fall. The remains were brought to Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at First Methodist Church in Jerseyville with Rev Robert Berry of Grafton officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Mr & Mrs Warford and daughter, Donna were joined on a vacation to the Ozarks by the couple’s son and daughter-in-law, Mr & Mrs James Warford and children. The elder Warford, fell from the cliff while seeking shelter from a rainstorm. Alone at the time, Warford’s cries were heard by some men fishing who summoned his son. The injured man was rushed by ambulance to Barnes hospital, where he underwent surgery. He was born in Highbee, Missouri, August 14, 1905, a son of the late William T & Flora Ann (Fowler) Warford. He had been employed at Shell Refinery for the past 30 years, and at the time of death was supervisor of the cracking dept. The family had lived in Jerseyville before moving to their present home. While residing here he was Worshipful Master of Jerseyville Lodge 394, AF & AM. Surviving are his wife, Mrs Irene (Perdun) Warford; a son, James, of the Illinois State Highway Police force; 2 daughters, Mrs Kermit Heid, Champaign and Donna Sue Warford of Grafton; 1 sister, Mrs Ettie Major, and 1 brother, Estelle Warford, both of Higbee, and 5 grandchildren.
WARNER. Died 22-02-1973. Fredrick Herman Warner, 69, of Grenbrier, TN, died February 22, at Baptist hospital, Nashville, TN. Final services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Leonard Todd officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. He was born in Jersey County, June 4, 1904 a son of Herman & Charlotte (Gerson) Warner. Mr Warner had been employed in the maintenance department of Shell Oil Company in Wood River and Houston. Survivors are 2 daughters, Mrs Juanita Manring of Phoenix, AZ, and Mrs Ester Newingham of Corpus Christi, TX; 7 grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Mrs John Lorch of Dow, Mrs John Ash of Alton and Mrs Joseph Bailey of Universal City, TX.
WARNER. Died 07-10-1985. George W Warner, 62, of St. Louis, formerly of Jerseyville, died October 7, at the Lutheran hospital in St. Louis. He was born in Jerseyville, son of the late Herman & Georgia (Henson) Warner. He was employed as a service engineer for NCR Company in St. Louis, and married Jean (Kruse) Warner in June 1951, in St. Louis. Surviving are his wife; 3 daughters, Barbara Deutschmann, Diane Bitter and Teresh Warner, all of St. Louis; 1 son William of St. Louis, 4 grandchildren; 1 brother, Nicholas of Alton; and 1 sister, Rosie Skiff of Alton. Visitation was in Michael Fitzgerald Mortuary, St. Louis, where services were conducted with Rev Jon Lobos officiating. Burial was in White Cemetery, Jerseyville.

Herman Fredrick Warner, 85 years, 6 months, 12 days, retired Western Cartridge Company custodian, died May 27, at the home of his daughter, Mrs John Lorch, of Dow where he had resided the past 5 years. Rev Kenneth Wiger and Rev Robert Hollis of Alton officiated at the final rites. Rites and visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial was in Upper Alton Cemetery. Mr Warner was born in Jersey County on November 6, 1881. Survivors are 1 son, Fred Warner, Springfield, TN; 3 daughters, Mrs Lorch of Dow, Mrs Murreta Bailey, Sacramento, CA, and Mrs Helen Ash of Alton; 13 grandchildren and 38 g-grandchildren. his wife, Charlotte Warner preceded him in death.

WARNER. Died 30-10-1987. Nadean I Warner, 89, died October 30, 1987, at Jersey Community hospital. She was born in Jerseyville daughter of the late Edward and Gertrude (Houze) Moore. She married Russell M Warner on March 25, 1918, in Jerseyville. He died October 8, 1974. She was also preceded in death by 1 daughter, Dorothy Rice and 2 brothers. Survivors include 2 grandsons, William A Rice of Jerseyville and James W Rice of Houston, TX; and 3 g-grandchildren. Visitation and service was held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 656, conducted their services on Saturday pm. Rev John Wilson officiated at final rites and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church.
WARNER. Died 02-12-1954. Ray E Warner, 77, of Medora, died December 2 at Jersey Community hospital where he had been a patient. He had been ill 3 weeks. Visitation was held at Warner Funeral Home, Medora. Services were held at Summerville Presbyterian church where he had served as pianist for 62 years. Rev Kenneth Bower, assisted by Rev M Edwards Breed of Jerseyville, officiated at the final rites and interment was in Medora Cemetery. He was a son of the late Horace B & Isabelle (Challacombe) Warner and was born at Challacombe Station, August 29, 1877, on the grounds homesteaded by his ancestors. He had resided on the old Warner homestead place until 1938 when he retired and moved to Medora. He was a talented musician and taught piano to children of the Medora area and played for funerals and weddings at the Summerville Church. He began his musical career as a youth when he studied piano under the late J A Carson at Carrollton and at Blackburn College, Carlinville where he was a student for 2 years. He was also an active member of the Presbyterian Church in all branches of work. He was an elder of the church and former clerk of the church sessions. He had served as delegate of Alton Presbytery at the General Assembly in Michigan in 1947. surviving are his wife, Harriett (Richardson) Warner of Chesterfield, whom he married December 19, 1906, 1 son Paul L Warner, head of the Warner Funeral Homes at Brighton & Medora, and 1 daughter, Mrs Helen Marshall of Jerseyville, a member of the faculty of Jerseyville Elementary School. He also leaves 1 brother, Hervey Warner, and 1 sister, Miss Stella Warner, both of Medora and 4 grandchildren.
WARNER. Died 08-10-1974. Russell M Warner, 76, a Jersey County banker for more than half a century, died October 8 at Barnes hospital. Mr Warner was born November 26, 1897 in Jersey County, the son of Harvey E & Florence (Hartwell) Warner. He became affiliated with Jersey State Bank in the late 20’s and had served as cashier, board member, vice-pres, and managing officer of the bank. He had been a member of the board since his retirement. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nadean (Moore) Warner; 1 daughter, Dorothy Rice of Alton; 1 sister, Mrs Gilbert (Alverta) VanCamp of Wood River; 1 brother, Edwin, of Springfield; 2 grandsons, James & William Rice and 1 g-granddaughter, Pamela Rice. He was Preceded in death by 1 brother, Howard. Mr Warner was a past master of Jerseyville Masonic Lodge, member of the First Baptist church, past pres of the Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scout fund raising chairman, past pres of Ill Bankers Assoc, board member of the Piasa Bird Boy Scout Council, assistant to the pastor of First Baptist Church. Mr Warner was the recipient of the distinguished service award from the Jerseyville Jaycees, received the silver beaver award from the boy Scouts of America and was father of the year at Fst Baptist Church. Services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Everett Chambers officiated and interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Masonic services were held at the funeral home.

WARREN. Died 13-09-1959. Edith Warren, died at her home in Los Angeles, Ca on September 13. She was a daughter of the late Daniel & Mary (Cory) Stelle, and a granddaughter of the late Joe & Sarah (Cross) Cory, pioneers of Jersey Co. She married George E Warren of Jerseyville who was engaged in the dry goods business in Jerseyville. Following their marriage they moved to California. Mrs Warren is survived by 1 daughter, Miss Elizabeth Warren, who is principal of a Los Angeles school. Funeral services and burial was in Los Angeles. Word was received here by Mrs H R Gledhill.

WARREN. Mrs. Lulu E. Warren, widow of the late Frank Warren, died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ridenour, near Rosedale Wednesday morning, November 16, at 12:45 a. m.. She had been in ill health for some time. Mrs. Warren was born in Rosedale township, being the daughter of Robert S. and Alice E. Matthews Ridenour. Besides her parents, she is survived by one son, Curtis Warren of East Alton; three sisters, Mrs. Charles Ontis of Alton, Mrs. David Armstrong of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Clarence Gresmier of Rosedale, and two brothers, Lee Ridenour of Wisconsin and Elmer Ridenour of Otterville. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
WARREN. Died 22-01-1923. Mark A Warren, 71 years, 1 month, 14 days, was born near Jerseyville, December 8, 1851 and was the son of Hon. George E & Hattie S (Allen) Warren, pioneer citizens of Jersey Co. He was brought up on a farm and received his education in the country and city schools of Jersey County, finishing with a course in the business college at Jacksonville. When he was 21 years old, he began his business career as clerk in the dry goods store of Lovell & Smith. Upon the dissolution of the partnership, Mr Warren became associated in business with Henry Lovell. At the expiration of 3 years, Mr Warren withdrew from the firm, and re-entered the employ of J Knox Smith, and after the latter’s retirement clerked for F W Smith & Co. In Sept, 1880, when the firm changed to Smith & Warren. This store occupied a part of the old Herdman corner, and was destroyed by fire in November 1884. Mr Warren and the widow of J Knox Smith who had died, continued the business in a small building until they moved into a new store build by G W Herdman. Later Mrs Smith sold her interest to Mr Warren who Conducted the business alone. Mr Warren married Grace (Ferguson) Warren in September 1874. They were parents of 2 children, Miss Fay Warren, Jerseyville and Atty Harry Warren of New York City. Mr Warren was a life long republican but never sought any political offices, preferring to devote his life to business and his family. After conducting a dry goods store by himself for a number of years, he engaged in partnership with T J Wiseman in the Vandervoort building on W Pearl St. This continued for 7 years, when he withdrew from the partnership and again entered business alone, establishing his store in the present location on N State St. Mr Warren had been in failing health for the past several years, and confined to his bed for several months. His death occurred January 22, 1923. He has been a life long friend of the publisher of the Democrat and although of different political faith, it never interfered with our friendship and we greatly regret his death. Services were held from the Episcopal Church, on January 25. Rev Thos Dyke of Edwardsville, Il Officiated. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Mrs Washburn was born in Davisvill, Missouri, March 6, 1889, a daughter of the late James & Margaret (Brakefield) Evans. She was the widow of John Washburn. WATERS. Died 07-09-1972. Kenneth Eugene Waters, 22, of Jerseyville, died September 7, at Jewish hospital, St. Louis where he had submitted to open heart surgery 2 weeks ago. He was born September 15, 1949 at Alton, the son of the late Robert L & Ethel Marie (Bridges) Waters. His parents were killed in an auto accident several years ago. Mr Waters had been employed as a security guard at the Venture store in Alton. He is survived by 1 brother, Danny Lee Waters of Grafton and aunts and uncles. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Robert Kimber of Grafton officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

WATKINS. Mrs Watkins was born in Roodhouse, July 21, 1893, a daughter of the late Dr Dell More & Catherine R (Zahn) (Truesdale). She was the widow of Potter Watkins who was employed at the CIPS Company for a number of years. The Couple had lived in Jerseyville and later went to Grafton where the continued to make their home until his death 18 years ago. Mr Watkins had also been employed by the Powder Mill at Grafton. WATKINS. Died 13-05-1951. E Potter Watkins, 51 years, 1 month, 2 days, an electrician employed by Illinois Powder Company, died May 13 at his home in Grafton following a short illness. Mr Watkins, had under the care of a physician, awoke ill about 4 am and his wife summoned but he died about 1 hr later. He was a son of the late Gaines & Emma C (Schwartz) Watkins and was born at Petersburg, IL, on April 11, 1900. Mr Watkins came to Jerseyville about 25 years ago and was employed by CIPS. He had resided in Grafton for nearly 21 years and was employed by IL Powder Co. Surviving are his wife, Maude Watkins; and 4 sisters, Mrs Alice Tice of Greenview, Mrs Jessie Carman of Petersburg, Mrs Oma Kenyon, of Athens and Mrs Josie Goldsby of Cantrell. Friends called at the home of Mrs Leo Burns in Grafton. Funeral services were held at Grafton Methodist Church on May 15. Rev Edward Souders, officiated and burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey.

WATKINS. Died 23-03-1962. Harvey S Watkins, 67 years, 1 month, 19 days, retired farmer of Otter Creek Township, died unexpectedly, March 23. He was stricken ill as he prepared to eat lunch. Jacoby Brothers ambulance was summoned and he was brought to Jersey Community hospital where he was DOA. Mr Watkins was a son of the late Jesse & Talula (Rushing) Watkins and was born in Williamson County, IL, on February 4, 1895. He had been a resident of Jersey County for a number of years and was a member of Full Moon Lodge, AF & AM of Grafton. Surviving are his wife, Iva (Johns) Watkins, Grafton; 2 daughters, Mrs Ruth Simmons, Lansing, MI and Mrs Wilma Moss of Otterville; 1 grandchild, Gloria Dean Moss, Lansing, MI; 2 brothers, David Watkins of Chicago and Hobert Watkins of Elgin; and2 sisters, Mrs Pearl McNeely of Fullerton, NE, and Mrs Amy Choate of Carterville. Her husband, Harvey S Watkins, died March 23, 1962. She died as a result of injuries incurred 11 days ago, when she had been struck by an automobile while crossing the street in Council Bluffs. WATSON. Died 10-1897. Catherine Cordelia (Case) Watson, 64, died recently. She was born in Scranton, Luzerne? County, PA on August 2, 1833. On December 2, 1852, she married Thomas C Watson at Pittstown, PA, by Rev N G Parke. In 1857 she and her husband came west and settled in Lacene County, MO, near Maltabend. In 1858, they came to IL and settled on a farm near Fidelity in Jersey Co. In 1889 they moved to Jerseyville. They attended Fidelity Baptist Church, and was baptized by Elder Adams of Upper Alton. In 1869, she took a little girl, Elizabeth Prothero, to rear. Elizabeth was the daughter of an old soldier and still remains with the Watson family. Surviving are her husband, Thomas; 2 sons, Francis S and George L; the girl she reared; and 5 grandchildren. The funeral was from the family home with Rev Simeon Hussey of Upper Alton officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery near Fidelity.

WATSON. Died 22-03-1972. Connie Watson, 47, died of complications of pneumonia suffered 3 weeks ago. She had been completely paralyzed since suffering an attack of respiratory, spinal and bulbar poliomyelitis 22 years ago. She died at St. Anthony hospital, Alton, where she had made her home during her invalidism. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Mary Church, Alton and burial was in Bunker Hill Cemetery. Mrs Watson headed the Victims Missionary Organization unit in Alton, an organization dedicated to the purpose of giving inspirational help to handicapped persons. The VMO has been designated as a memorial by her family. Last fall, she made one of her infrequent visits to Jerseyville where family members gathered at the Bert Feyerabend Community Building to present her a stretcher that would fit into a station wagon and which would permit her to make more frequent visits to Our Lady of the Snows Shrine in Belleville and to visit other invalid persons to give them the courage and inspiration to cope with their condition. On the occasion of her visit here, Mrs Watson Commented that it was her hope that this type of gathering of her family with her would become an annual affair. Mrs Watson was a daughter of Mrs Genevieve (Lyles) Pontero of Kampsville and the late Harry Hilyard. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs James Trainor , Phoenix, AZ, and Mrs Pete Sangriles, Florissant, MO; 3 grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Mrs Bonne Rhodes, Williamsville, Mrs Ramona Gansz, Godfrey, and Mrs Patsy Karrich, Billings, MT.

WATSON. Died 02-02-1992. Earl M “Junior” Watson Jr, 58, Township Trustee of Jersey Township, died at Jersey Community hospital. The retired farmer was a US Air Force Korean War Veteran. He was born in Jerseyville on September 29, 1933, son of the late Earl M Watson, Sr & Garnet (Tucker) Watson Jorgesen. On July 7, 1953, he married Marcis (Zimmerman) Watson, in Jerseyville. Surviving are his Wife; 3 daughters, Monica and Melany Watson, Jerseyville, and Malea Perkinson, Delhi; 2 sons, David and Brian Watson, Jerseyville; 4 grandchildren; and his stepfather, Roger Jorgesen, Jerseyville. One sister, Edna Collins preceded him in death. Visitation and rites were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where rites were held by Elks Lodge 4528. Rev Simon A Simon officiated. Military rites were held at graveside by Jerseyville American Legion Post 492, of which he was a member, and VFW Post 4528. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Born in Jersey County, he was the son of the late John & Viola (Miller) Watson. His wife, the former Clara A Larbey, died December 30, 1983. Surviving are 2 sons, Robert L and Milton L Watson, both of Grafton; 3 grandchildren; 1 sister, Mary Alice Kurten, Hardin; and 1 brother, Arthur Watson, Grafton. Mrs. Emma WATSON, formerly Miss Emma LOCKLEY, a sister of Mrs. Prof. DAVENPORT of this city, died at Arkansas City, Kansas, Aug. 21, of quick decline. She was beloved by all who knew her and the funeral was largely attended. From Jersey County Democrat, September 14, 1882.

Born in Jersey County, she was the daughter of the late Henry & Alma (Schwab) Orban. on January 5, 1944, she married Raymond Watson in Edwardsville, and he survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Fern Rau, Joliet; 1 son Gary Watson, Brighton; 5 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Bernice Orban, Marie Watson and Dorothy Watts, all of Brighton; and 2 brothers, Lester and Earl Orban, both of Brighton. Visitation was from Targhetta Funeral Home, Brighton. Services were conducted at St. Johns United Church of Christ in Brighton. Rev Henry Lippert officiated and burial was in Brighton Cemetery. WATSON. Died 16-05-1986. Herbert U Watson, 82, formerly of Calhoun County, died May 16, 1986 at his home. Born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Stephen & Molly (Trowbridge) Watson, he was a retired produce salesman. In 1956, he married Nellie (Parker) Watson, she survives. Also surviving are 1 son, Herbie of Jerseyville; 2 grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Odessa Plummer, Kane, Maxine Griffin, Decatur and Peggy Watson of Webster Groves, Missouri. WATSON. Died 16-05-1986. Herbert Uda Watson, 82, of Jerseyville, formerly of Calhoun County, died May 16 at his residence. He was born March 6, 1904, to the late Stephen & Molly (Trowbridge) Watson. He married Nellie Parker in1956. He was a self employed produce salesman. Surviving are his wife; 1 son Herbie Watson, Jerseyville; 3 sisters, Odessa Plummer, Kane, Maxine Griffin of Decatur and Peggy Watson of Webster Groves, Mo; and 2 grandchildren. Services were held May 19 at Hanks Funeral Home in Hardin with Rev Simon A Simon officiating. Burial was in Hardin Cemetery. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church, Jerseyville.
WATSON. Died 25-05-1960. James Watson, 76 years, 8 months, 28 days, died May 25, at the home of his daughter, Mrs Ronald Bock, Alton, where he had been for the past 9 days. He had been ill for some time. He was born in Jersey County, August 27, 1883, a son of the late James & Saran (Hunter) Watson. Surviving are his wife, Lottie (Tucker) Watson whom he married January 21, 1906; 5 daughters, Mrs Fred Marshall and Mrs Howard Dwyer of Jerseyville, Mrs Ronald Bock, Alton, Mrs Kenneth Maximer, Brighton and Mrs Robert Tuetkin, Atlanta, GA; 6 sons, Earl Watson, Jerseyville, Melvin, Paul, Alfred and Raymond, Brighton, and Laverne Watson of Godfrey; 25 grandchildren; and 33 g-grandchildren. 1 daughter, Mrs Veriel Sullivan, Preceded him in death; and 2 sisters, Mrs Celia Price and Mrs Lydia Long, both of Jerseyville, survive Mr Watson.
WATSON. Died 03-1889. Jessie E Watson, 23, daughter of Mr Silas Bates, one of the oldest and most worthy families of this co, and the youngest of several brothers and sisters, died recently. On December 13, 1888, she married George L Watson of Fidelity. Rev W H Avery, of Fidelity Baptist Church officiated. She was universally esteemed and had a host of friends. Young and beautiful and full of hope and plans.
WATSON. Died 11-1917. John Watson, 79, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs John Shea, Jerseyville. He was a member of Grafton IOOF and his body was taken to the lodge room where the body was held until being removed to Hartford church where Rev Rhine, Pastor of Grafton ME church conducted services. Burial was in Hartford Cemetery. Graveside services were conducted by IOOF. He leaves 3 daughters, Mrs John Shea, Mrs Ed Larbey, and Mrs John Kaslick of Grafton; 4 sons, James and John, Grafton, Elmer of Dayton, OH, and William of Jerseyville; 28 grandchildren; 12 g-grandchildren; and 1 g-g-grandchild. He was a veteran of the Civil War and had served 4 years.
WATSON. Died 23-07-1914. Joseph B Watson, 83, brother of our esteemed good neighbor, T C Watson, died July 23. Born in Pittstown, PA son of Frqancis & Anne Watson. He married Mary (Coy), and they were parents of 2 sons and 2 daus. Burial was in Canadaigua, NY where he was a resident. Surviving are 1 son, Frank of Minneapolis, MN; 1 daughter, Mrs M Orman, NY and 1 brother T C Watson, Jerseyville.
WATSON. Died 15-10-1978. Kimberly Watson, 19, daughter of Charles E & Patsy Ann Baect Watson Jr, of R 1 Dow, died October 15 at St. Joseph hospital, Alton. She had suffered injuries in an accident, October 10 on Airline Drive, Madison Co. She was assistant manager of Kentucky Fried Chicken, Jerseyville. Kimberly was born June 22, 1959, in Alton. Surviving are her parents; 2 brothers, Kevin and Michael, at home; 3 sisters, Wendy Maupin, Colorado Springs, CO, Terri Young, Carrollton, and Diane Watson at home; and her paternal grandmother, Reba Watson, Grafton.
WATSON. Died 14-10-1991. LaVerna J Watson, 75, died October 14, 1991, at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton. She was born in Alton, January 26, 1916, a daughter of the late Louis G & Valborg (Wolfbrandt) Stumpe. Her husband, Arthur L Watson, died August 22, 1990. Surviving are a daughter, Peggy Nugent, Alton; 2 sons, Gerald Watson, Brighton and Paul Watson, Grafton; 6 grandchildren; 4 g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Gertrude Rudolph, Grafton; and 1 brother, Louis Stumpe Jr, of Dow. Preceding her in death were a sister, Bertha Nave; and 1 brother William Stumpe. Visitation was from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services there were held by Rev Ray Long officiating. Burial was in Noble Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Shriner’s Hosp for Crippled Children in St. Louis.
WATSON. Died 12-02-1970. Lottie D Watson, 82, of Brighton, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Christina Maxeiner. She was born January 15, 1888 in Greene County, the daughter of Douglas & Amy (Freeman) Gernigan. Her husband was the late James Watson. Survivors are 5 daughters, Mrs Fred (Verna) Marshal and Mrs Howard (Evelyn) Dwyer, Jerseyville, Mrs Vera Bock, Godfrey and Mrs Kenneth (Christina) Maxeiner of Brighton and Mrs Robert (Alta Faye) Tuetken, Tampa, FL; 6 sons, Earl Watson, Jerseyville, and Melvin, Laverne, Raymond, Paul and Alfred Watson all of Brighton; 25 grandchildren; 55 g-grandchildren; 3 g-g-grandchildren; 4 bros, Henry Tucker of Greeley, CO, Leslie Tucker of Wilmington, Bryan Tucker of Girard and Courtney Tucker, Jerseyville; 3 sisters, Mrs Ora Ewing of Springfield, Mrs Pete Mathan and Mrs Thelma McFain of Taylorville. Her husband, parents, 1 daughter, Mrs Walter Sullivan, 1 brother and 2 sisters preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Howard Opperman of Brighton officiated and interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
WATSON. Died 22-03-1973. Mildred (Milner) Watson, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Mary Lou Modgline, Pagedale, MO. Funeral rites were held at Kane Baptist Church with Rev Jack Brown of Waverly officiating. Burial was in Kane Cemetery. She was born in Greene County, March 21, 1907. Her husband was the late Earl W Watson. Surviving are 1 dau; 3 grandchildren; 1 brother, Ernest Milner, Carrollton; 3 sisters, Mrs Dee Burch, Bethalto, Mrs Bernadine Carr, Kane and Mrs Charlotte Dixon, Cottage Hills.
WATSON. Nellie May Watson, 86, formerly of Hardin, died November 27, 1988, at Greenwood Manor in Jerseyville. She operated the Parker Hotel in Hardin for 40 years. Born in Hardin, her parents were the late Mortimer J & Lenora (Smith) Parker. In 1955, she married Herbert Watson, who died in May 1986. Surviving are 2 daughters, Charlotte Kinder of Alton and Eris Diehl of Kampsville; 7 grandchildren; 15 grandchildren; and 2 g-grandchildren. One brother preceded her in death. Visitation was from khanks Funeral Home in Hardin, where services were held by Rev Paul Frazier. Burial was in Hardin Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Assoc.
WATSON. Died 07-09-1989. Paul W Watson, 69, died September 7, 1989, at his home. Watson was a US Air Force corporal in WW II, and was manager of Alton-Wood River Sportsman’s Club for 26 years, retiring in 1985. Born in Jersey County, his parents were the late James & Lottie (Tucker) Watson. He married the former Florence “Tossie” (Roady) Watson, on August 30, 1952, in Jerseyville. Surviving are his wife; 1 stepdau, Rose Kult of Columbia, IL; 1 stepson, Bill Haun of Jerseyville; 10 grandchildren; 15 g-grandchildren; 5 sisters, Verna Marshall and Evelyn Dwyer, both of Jerseyville, Vera Bock, Alton, Alta Faye Tuetken of Tampa, FL, and Christina Maxeiner, Brighton; 2 brothers, Laverne and Raymond Watson both of Brighton. Preceding him in death were 1 grandson; 2 g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Veriel Sullivan; and 3 brothers, Earl, Melvin and Alfred Watson. Arrangements pending at Targhetta Funeral home, Brighton.
WATSON. Died 19-03-1992. Pauline H Watson, 89, died March 19, 1992, at Jerseyville Care Center. She was a seamstress at Principia College and a member of Grafton Order Eastern Star Lodge 318. Born in Foley, Missouri, on February 20, 1903, she was the daughter of the late Printis & Mabel Clara (Stonebreaker) Beeman. On September 30, 1930, in Grafton, She married Jack Watson. He died August 10, 1967. a Step daughter, Murriel Watson of St. Louis, survives. Preceding her in death was 1 brother, Howard Beeman. The body was cremated and the memorial service was held at Bethel United Methodist Church in Dow, where she had been a member. Rev Dorothy Fellhauer officiated. Burial was in Foley. Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, was in charge of local arrangements.
WATSON. BORN 20-03-1880. Died 04-03-1965. R A Watson, 84, well-known orchardist of Rural Jerseyville, died in a car-truck accident south of Medora Mon afternoon. According to a police report a large transport truck had stopped for a halted school bus that was unloading Southwestern grade school pupils, and according to the driver he had just started up when he felt the impact of the Watson car at the rear of his vehicle. Mr Watson had come to Jersey County a number of years ago after buying an orchard farm. Surviving are his wife, Ruth (Swing) Watson; 1 son, David Swing Watson, Granville, OH; 2 daughters, Mrichard Walbeg of San Francisco, CA, and Mrs Robert J Lundt, Kirkwood, MO and 2 grandchildren. Services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville with Rev Carlton G Christenson officiating. Elks Crippled Children’s Fund.
WATSON. Died 03-07-1978. Roberta Watson, 27, of Jerseyville, was killed in a head on collision 2 1/2 miles north of Cabool, MO. She was a passenger in a car driven by Hugh William Meyers of Collinsville, who was also killed and pronounced died at the scene. He was a nephew of Wilmetta Breitweiser, Dow. She was born in Carrollton July 2, 1951, a daughter of Aloys & Mary Lou (French) Heitzig and was a receptionist at McCow Memorial Medical Clinic. Mrs Watson is survived by her husband, Herbie L Watson and 1 daughter, Heather Michelle; her parents; 4 brothers, Larry, Max, Danny and Craig Heitzig; 3 sisters, Connie Fry, Luanne Heitzig and Jan Foiles, and maternal grandmother, Mrs Mary Heitzig. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral Mass was celebrated July 4, at Holy Ghost Church with Fr William Hembrow celebrant. Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery.

WATSON. Died 1962. Viola Watson, 84, of Grafton died at Jersey Community hospital. She was born January 29, 1878, daughter of the late Mr & Mrs Charles Miller. She leaves 1 daughter, Mrs Lawrence Kurten, Grafton; 4 sons, Elmer, Charles, and Arthur, Grafton and Jasper of Smithfield, PA; 2 sisters, Mrs Bert Dabbs, Grafton and Mrs Rhoda Rowden of Grafton; 22 grandchildren. Rev Father Anthony Schmidt officiated at the service.
WATSON. Died 09-1918. Wm Watson, (55?–62?) was found dead in bed at John Phelan’s home on S Jefferson, where he was staying while building a house near there. He is a brother of Tom and Henry Watson of Fidelity and a cousin of W B Watson of Jerseyville. He was not married. Burial was in Fidelity.
WATTS. Carrie E Watts, 90, died February 16, 1985 at Garnet Chateau in Jerseyville. Born in Rosedale Township in Jersey County, a daughter of the late Wilson & Frances (Swearingin) Robinson, she was the executive secretary for the American Red Cross in Jersey County for 25 years. She married Fred Watts on October 15, 1916 in Carrollton. He preceded her in death August 3, 1954. Surviving are 3 daughters, Mildred Campbell, Lincoln, MO, Ruth Watts and Clara Bridges, both of Jerseyville; 1 son, Robert Watts of Bartonville; 8 grandchildren; and 20 g-grandchildren. Visitation was from noon until time of service at First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville. Rev R E George officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church where she had been a member for over 50 years.
WATTS. Died 10-1869. Daniel Watts was born in Jersey County on September 6, 1845. His father, Warren Watts, died in March 1852, his mother died in 1854, his brother, Porter Watts, died at Daniel Nails home, in Jersey County on May 5, 1868. Mr Watts went to live with Judge Powell in 1857 and was treated with as much kindness as 1 of the Judges own children. Funeral was from Second Prsby church with Rev Robert Farris of St. Louis officiating.
WATTS. Died 09-1915. Delbert, 13 month old infant son of Mr & Mrs J Watts of McClusky, died Sunday evening. Rev E T Carroll had services at the home. Burial in White Hall Cemetery.
WATTS. Died 1928. Drucilla Emiline Watts, 85, was born on the Snell farm west of Jerseyville. Funeral was from the home of her sister Mrs Gussie Howell. Rev Jenkins officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. She wed Squire Watts in 1863. They were parents of 3 children all of whom preceded her in death. Mr Watts died in 1876 in Litchfield, IL. Surviving are 5 sisters, Mary Forth and Clarisa Caloun of Jersey County, Ruby Perrings, Carlinville, Katurah Woolsey, Auburn and Mrs Augusta Howell, Jerseyville; 2 brothers, Hugh H Snell, Jerseyville and Luther of Carlinville; 2 granddaughters, Ruth and Katie of Denver, Co.
WATTS. Died 31-12-1986. George “Buck” Watts, 80, of Missouri, died December 31 in MO. He was born May 16, 1906, in Jersey County to the late George & Cora L (Woolsey)Watts. He married Merle Phyllis Watts on April 19, 1924, in Greene Co. She died July 30, 1985. He ha been a research mechanic for Shell Oil, retiring in 1957. Survivors include 9 sons, Herschel, Delmar, Emil, Leon, Francis “Pete”, Roger and Wyatt “Lew”, all of Brighton, Glen of Litchfield and Paul of Henderson, NV; 3 daughters, Margaret Orban, Caulfield, MO, Hazel Orban and Shirley Taul, both of Brighton; 49 grandchildren; and 48 g-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, 1 brother, 2 grandchildren and 3 g-grandchildren. Visitation and services were at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev David Dennis, Brighton officiated. Burial was in Kane Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Heart Fund and Cardinal Glennon hospital for Children.
WATTS. Died 05-05-1868. Hardin Porter Watts, died May 5th in Jerseyville at the home of his Uncle, Daniel Watts. He was born in Jerseyville on October 12, 1847. Funeral was from First Presbyterian Church with Rev G I King officiating.
WATTS. Died 09-1967. James Watts, 66, died at his home in Ontario, CA. Funeral services were from Draper Funeral Home, Ontario, CA. The Jersey County native suffered a fatal heart attack. He had moved to CA 6 years previously for his health. He was a brother of Mrs Harry Krause, of Jerseyville. He was born October 18, 1900, the son of the late Mr & Mrs Jesse Watts of Jersey Co. He operated a service station in Jerseyville for a number of years and was a school bus driver in Community Unit District # 100. Surviving are his wife Ruby (Ballard) Watts of Ontario, CA; 4 grandchildren; 5 sisters, Mrs Celesta Lowe of Granite City, Mrs Ethel Allen of Eaton Rapids, MI, Mrs Harry Krause, Jerseyville, Mrs Nora Wallace, Grafton and Mrs Verna Cannon, Alton; and 3 brothers, Jesse, Lincon, Gordon of San Jose, CA and Lloyd, Granite City.
WATTS. Jesse Watts, 49, son of J D Watts born in White Hall, IL on November 9, 1881. 18 children, 11 survive. Widow Minnie, 5 daughters: Mrs Frank Lowe, Mrs Leonard Everetts, Mrs Harry Krause, Nora and Verna; 6 sons, James, Eugene, Edward, Lloyd, Gordon and Jesse Jr. Burial in White Hall Cemetery. ?? This Obit was confusing. Possibly J D was the deceased?
WATTS. Died 08-1897. Perry Watts, 29, son of Mrs Dursilla Watts, died at Honey Point, Montgomery County, IL. Remains were brought to Jersey County for burial. Rev W H Kearns officiated. Perry was the grandson of Mrs Pricella Snell, who resides with her son Hugh Snell, 1 mi W of Jerseyville. He was born in Jersey County and at the age of 3, he went with his parents to Honey Point. His father, Squire Watts, died a score of years ago. Three years ago his young wife died of consumption. He leaves 2 daughters, aged 5 and 7.
WATTS. Rachel Watts, 84, (Mrs Wm?) was born June 2, 1826 in Logan, Hocking County, OH. She was wed April 20, 1845. She was a daughter of Henry & Elizabeth Prough. She leaves 5 children: Asloma La Londe, Dennison, TX, Hannah Prough, Wellston, OK, Elizabeth King, Lone Jack, MO, Mrs Elzina Hawk, Kane and Wm Wyatt Watts, Jerseyville; 33 grandchildren and 38 g-g-grandchildren.
WATTS. Died 05-03-1987. Willam A Watts, 74, of Jerseyville, died March 5, at Jersey Community hospital. He was born March 4, 1913 in Jerseyville and Married Thelma M Skinner on November 4, 1937, in St. Charles, MO. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, Elks and American Legion. He was chairman of the Jersey County Democratic central committee for 20 years. Surviving are his wife, 1 daughter, Sharon Drainer, Godfrey; 1 son, William James Watts, Alexandria, VA; 2 grandchildren and 1 g-grandchild. Visitation and rosary were March 8, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The funeral Mass was celebrated March 9 at St. Francis church by Revs William Hembrow and Anthony Schmidt. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to St. Francis Xavier Church.

William Wyatt Watts, 72 years, 1 month, 7 days, a resident of Jersey County for the past 20 years, died at the home of his son, George D Watts, 8 miles N of Jerseyville on September 14. He is survived by his widow, Mrs Eudora Watts; 4 sons, George D and Fred Watts of Jerseyville, James of Springfield and John of Hartford; 3 daughters, Mrs James Long of Jerseyville, Mrs Jesse Farmer of Milwaukee, WI, and Mrs Mack Page, Godfrey. Services from Methodist church, Jerseyville. Rev F M Hedger of Godfrey officiated. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
WAYHAM. Died 22-03-1989. Charles F Wayham, 71, of Springfield, formerly of Jerseyville, died March 22 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was retired from Central Illinois Public Service Company and was a veteran of WW II. He was born in Jerseyville on July 18, 1917, a son of the late Harold & Nona (Flat) Wayham. He married Madeline (Schnakey) Wayham and she survives. Also surviving are 4 daughters, Charlene Denney, St. Louis, Janet Ryder of Felencia, CA, Susan Gillman of Marina Del Ray, CA and Phyllis Oskooie, Woodland Hills, CA; 1 son, Hugh Wayham of San Francisco, CA. He was preceded in death by 1 brother, Harold. Funeral services were held March 28, at Boardman Smith Funeral Home in Springfield. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church, where he was a member.

Services were held at Shields Memorial Home in Greenfield with Rev Albert Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. She was born July 6, 1896 in Greene County the daughter of the late Ed & Tina (Mains) Brown and was a sister to the late George E Brown of Jerseyville. Mrs Wayham was a member of First Baptist Church, Greenfield.
WAYHAM. Died 13-01-1954. Hugh Harold Wayham, 69 years, 3 months, 2 days, retired businessman of Jerseyville, died January 13, at his home on W Pearl St. Death was attributed to coronary thrombosis. Mr Wayham had been ill for several days but was not considered critical and had visited the business district the previous afternoon. He was born in Greene County, October 11, 1884, a son of the late Hugh Clinton & Della D (Felter) Wayham. The family came to Jerseyville to reside 32 years ago. Mr Wayham was formerly employed with International Shoe Company, Jerseyville Branch and later operated “Wimpy’s” a short order restaurant on S State ST. He had retired some time ago. He was active in: Odd Fellows Lodge, Encampment, Ruby Rebekah Lodge and Hickory Grove Camp, Modern Woodman of America. He was a Past Noble Grand of the IOOF, Past Chief Patriarch of the Encampment, and was currently serving as Scribeand Trustee of the IOOF. Mr Wayham is survived by his wife, Nona Wayham and 1 son, Charles Wayham of Mattoon; 4 grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs Hazel Reno, Godfrey and 2 brothers, Edgar Wayham of Carrollton and Felter Wayham, Greenfield. One son Lt Harold Damon Wayham, was killed in action during WW II. Visitation was at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Service was January 16, at First Methodist Church, Rev F W Schwarzlose officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
WAYMACK. Died 05-08-1988. Carmen Waymack, 64, of Lancaster, Ca, formerly of Jerseyville, died August 5, at her home. She was the daughter of the late Leslie Wineland & Winona Ellen (Reed). She had worked for Owens-Il Inc of Alton before moving to CA. Surviving are her husband, George Waymack of TX; 1 son, Michael Waymack of Lancaster; 1 grandchild; and 4 sisters, Geraldine Rue, Delhi, Winnie Tucker of Washington, DC, Marian Wineland, Godfrey and Connie Allen of Laguna Niguel, CA. Services were conducted at Halley-Olsen Funeral Home in Lancaster.
WAYMAN. Died 09-1985. Leonard Billy Wayman, 64, died this A M at Jersey Community hospital. Born in Fidelity, a son of Ethel (Moore) Wayman and the late Frank Wayman, he ran an auto salvage yard. He was a WW II Veteran, he married Grace (Baze) Wayman on April 25, 1944 in White Hall. Surviving are his mother; wife; 2 daughters, Elaine Giller, Staunton and Sharon Morrow, Carlinville; 4 sons, Jim, Fidelity, Rick of Donaphon, Missouri, Cecil, Rushville and Tom of Jerseyville; 15 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Virginia Richie of Medora and Evelyn Lebro of Gillespie; 1 brother, Dwight of Medora. There was no visitation and private funeral services were held at Warner-Targhetta funeral home, Medora on Mon, with cremation to follow.
WAYMAN. Died 21-12-1927. Mary Lucile Wayman, 6, daughter of Rolla & Dolly (Moore) Wayman, was born March 18, 1921 at Fidelity, IL. She died December 21, at the home of her parents at Medora. Services were held at Oakland cem near Medora with Rev T O Holley of Medora officiating. Surviving are her parents, 4 brothers, Melvin, Franklin, Ebert and Gene; 1 sister, Doris —-incomplete.
