PHELAN. Jerseyville Republican 24 June 1926: Mrs. Elizabeth Phelan, wife of John Phelan, died at St. Joseph’s hospital in Alton. 62 years old. Leaves husband and one Brother, J. H. Maley of Alton. Funeral from St. Francis church. Rev. J. J. Clancy. Burial in St. Francis cemetery.
PHELAN. 1907: Dennis Phelan died at his home near Fidelity, Friday, 12 April, aged 80 years. The funeral services were held from St. Francis Xavier’s church at 10 o’clock Monday morning, Rev. B. W. Lee officiating.
PHELAN. Jerseyville Republican 1 October 1908: M. F. Phelan killed at Little Rock, Ark on 25 September while serving as brakeman. To Jerseyville for burial. St. Francis church with Rev. Driscoll. 35 years old. Leaves widow and two children. Son-in-law of Mrs. Margaret Gorman of Jerseyville.
PHELPS. Died 02-05-1889. Jersey County Democrat 9 May 1889: Mrs. Sarah Phelps, daughter of Stergis Bulkley, born in Duchess County, New York 13 September 1800. At age of 31 married Joshua Phelps and resided at Cooperstown, and Fort Plain, New York. To Illinois in 1850. Four children, one son and three daughters. All living. Husband died in 1853. She has lived with daughter, Mrs. Barr. 88 years old Presbyterian church. Obit # 2, Republican Examiner. May 1889: Died at home of James A. Barr 2 May, Mrs. Sarah Phelps, born in Duchess County, New York 13 September 1800. Funeral from home of Mr. Barr. Rev. Tyson. She was daughter of Stergis Bulkley. Married Joshua Phelps and they lived at Cooperstown and afterwards at Fort Plain, New York. Come to Illinois in 1850. Four children, one son and three daughters, all living. Her husband died in 1853. She had made home with her daughter, Mrs. Barr. Presbyterian church. 88 years old.
PHILLIPS. 3 June 1976: Funeral services were held 29 May for Ronald L. Phillips, 34, of 703 Wabash St., Jerseyville. Rev. Everett Chambers officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. He was born 13 September 1941 in Fieldon, the son of Armpstead and Margaret Hannel Phillips. He served with the United States Air Force during Vietnam as an air controller. He died at 5:30 pm 26 May at John Cochran hospital where he had been a patient for five months. He is survived by his parents, four brothers, Leroy of Mozier, Allen of Morrisonville and James and Simmeon of Jerseyville; a sister, Mrs. Gary (Shirley) Morrow of Rockport; his grandmother, Mrs. Amanda Reed of Moberly, Missouri, and six nieces and six nephews.
PHILLIPS. Jan 1986: Former Fieldon Resident Delbert Leroy Phillips sr, 48, of Capac, Mich., died 24 December in an automobile accident at Imlay City, Mich. He was born in Hamburg to S. Armpstead and Margaret (Hannel) Phillips. He was a teacher in the Utica Michigan school system and had taught in the Unit 100 School District in Fieldon. Survivors include his wife, Doris Jean (Cope) Phillips of Capac; Sons Delbert L. Jr. of Summerfield, Florida, and Dereck Wayne at home; daughters Jessie Ann Aguinago of Imlay City and Kristy Lynette at home; parents S. Armpstead and Margaret Phillips; brothers Allen of Taylorville and James and Simmeon , both of Jerseyville; sister Shirley Morrow of Rockport; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brother Ronald. Visitation was 28 December at Utica, Mich., and December 30 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The funeral was 31 December with the Rev. V. Clay Noah officiating. Burial was in the Fieldon cemetery. Obit #2:1985: Delbert L. Phillips Sr, 48, of Capac, Mich., formerly of Fieldon died at 8 pm Tuesday in Lapeer, Mich., following an automobile accident. He had been a schoolteacher in Fieldon and Utica, Mich., and was born in Hamburg, a son of Armpstead and Margaret (Hannel) Phillips of Jerseyville. In addition to his parents, surviving are his wife, the former Doris Cope; two sons, Delber, Jr. of Summerfield, Florida, and Derick of Wayne, Mich.; two Daughters, Jessie Aguinaga of Imlay City, Mich., and Kristy at home, six grandchildren; three Brothers, Allen of Taylorville, and James and Simion, both of Jerseyville; and one Sister, Shirley Morrow of Rockport. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 pm Monday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be conducted at 1 pm Tuesday with the Rev. V. Clay Noah, Jr. Officiating. Burial will be in the Fieldon cemetery.
PHILLIPS. Jerseyville Republican 13 July 1894: James Phillips died at home in Rosedale township. Burial in Rosedale cemetery by Order of Good Templars. 18 years of age. Died of lung trouble. Rev. Rainey. This was first loss sustained by the Lodge at this place. Pall Bearers: T. K. Matthews, Grant Powers, William Harris, Plowman Crull, A. J. Thoroman and B. W. Dabbs.
PHIPPS. Republican Examiner April 1889: Died Friday Morning, T. K. Phipps, 69 years old. We believe that Mr. Phipps died a Christian. Funeral from his home. Rev. John Belt. Masonic order. What sounds of grief in sadness tell a brother’s earthly doom no more in life’s fair scenes to dwell a tenant of the tomb. Born in Virginia, 17 December 1819. Came west when 17 years old. Fieldon Lodge AF & AM. Obit #2 Jersey County Democrat. 11 April 1889: Thomas K. Phipps came to this county in 1848 and purchased 40 acres of land near Rosedale and added to it till he had 400 acres. In 1878 he rented his farm out and moved to Rosedale and entered into merchandising. Born in Virginia, 17 December 1819. Married Martha Ruy in Mississippi and came to Illinois in 1847.
PHIPPS. Feb 1950: Parley Kensman Phipps, a retired farmer of the Rosedale vicinity, died at three-thirty o’clock Saturday afternoon 28 January at the Memorial hospital in Alton where he had been a patient for several days. For the past three years Mr. Phipps had made his home in Alton. The deceased was the son of the late Louis M. and Sarah Baldridge Phipps, and was born in Jersey County 29 March 1879. His age at the time of death was seventy years, nine months and twenty-nine days. He is survived by one brother, Louis N. Phipps of Fieldon. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon, 31 January at one-thirty o’clock. The Rev. Everett Russell officiated and interment was in the Rosedale cemetery.
PHIPPS. 30 December 1926: Sarah F. Phipps daughter of Mr and Mrs. Irvin Baldridge born in Warren County, MO 12 November 1850. Died 16 December 1926. Married Louis Phipps 20 March 1878. Three Children: Parley K., Martha E. and Louis N. Phipps. Mr. Phipps died 1882. She then married Thomas Bentley. One daughter, Sarah Adeline. Leaves two sons, Parkley K., and Louis N. Phipps. Eleven grandchildren.
PHIPPS. Died 14-04-1909. Jerseyville Republican. May 1909: Alfred Oscar Phipps born at Batchtown, Illinois 31 August 1882. Died 14 April 1909. 26 years old. Married in 1908 to Mrs. Alpha O. Angel. Leaves wife, 2 step-children, father, mother, 3 brothers and 1 sister.
PHIPPS. 29 December 1981: John Harrison Phipps, 95, died at 2:57 am 24 December atThe home of his daughter at 113 S. Olive St., Hartford where he made his home. He was born 30 September 1886 in Rosedale, the son of the late John T. and Mary Bryant Phipps. He married Mattie Alice Maguire who died 13 November 1954. He was a retired employee of Standard Oil Company. Surviving are his daughter Lucy G. Smith of Hartford, two Sons, William Warren Phipps of Godfrey and Wilbur Lawrence Phipps of Jacksonville, Florida,; 11 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren and three half Sisters, Ruth A. Farrow and Luella Powderly both of Jerseyville and Mattie Burch of Fieldon. Funeral services were held at the Gubser Funeral Home on Saturday, 26 December with Rev. F. Jerry Herring of the Evangelical United Methodist church, Wood River officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. The Evangelical United Methodist church at Wood River has been named as a memorial. Obit #2: John Harrison Phipps, 95, who had resided with his Daughter, Lucy Geneva Smith in Hartford, died there at 2:57 am today. Born in Rosedale, a son of the late John T. and Mary (Bryant) Phipps, he was a retired Standard Oil employee. Surviving in addition to his daughter are two sons, William W. of Godfrey and Wilbur L. of Jacksonville, Florida; 11 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren; and three half sisters, Ruth A. Farrow and Luella Powderly both of Jerseyville and Mattie Burch of Fieldon. Visitation will be at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville on Saturday From 10 am until services there at 2 pm with the Rev. F. Jerry Herring officiating. Burial will be there in Oak Grove cemetery, and the Evangelical United Methodist church in Wood River has been named as a memorial.
PICKARD. 1921: Jerseyville friends were shocked Friday morning when a message was received stating that Mrs. M. W. Pickard had died at her home in Kansas City Friday morning. Mrs. Pickard was formerly Miss Emily Ware, youngest daughter of Geo. W. Ware of this city. She was 41 years, 11 months and 26 days of age. Mrs. Pickard was the mother of two children, Miss Julia Pickard, 17, and Nicholas, 12 years old. Her husband, Dr. M. W. Pickard, is surgeon for the Terminal Railway of Kansas City. Besides the aged father, Mrs. Pickard leaves two sisters and one brother. They are Mrs. Edward Cross of this city, Mrs. Charles Kieth of Denver and Frank M. Ware of this city. Her father, George W. Ware was unable to make the trip to Kansas City because of his advanced age. Mrs. Edward Cross and son, Hugh, left Saturday morning for Kansas City where funeral services will be held Mon. morning. Interment will be in Forest Hill cemetery. Obit #2: Word was received in Jerseyville Friday morning that Mrs. M. W. Pickard passed away at her home in Kansas City this morning. Mrs. Pickard was formerly Miss Emily Ware, daughter of George W. Ware of this city. The funeral will be held Monday in Kansas City.
PICKEREL. 26 February 1959: Funeral services were held at two o’clock Tuesday afternoon, 24 February at the Gubser Funeral Home for Herschel E. Pickerel of Jerseyville whose death occurred at eight-thirty o’clock Saturday evening, 21 February at the Jersey Community Hospital where he had been a patient for two weeks. He had been in failing health for a number of years. Services were held by Rev. Melvin McClain and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Pickerel was born in Jersey County, 26 June 1915, a son of Mrs. Wilda Cope Pickerel of Jerseyville and the late Elzy Pickerel. His age at the time of death was forty-three years, seven months and twenty-five days. Surviving him in addition to his mother are two brothers, George and Clarence Pickerel of Jerseyville and two sisters, Mrs. Earl Lewis of Chicago and Mrs. J. A. Owsley of Sweet Springs, Missouri.
PICKEREL. April 1979: George W. Pickerel, 82, of 601 E. Pearl, Jerseyville, died at 8 am 16 April at Blu Fountain Manor in Godfrey. Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 pm Tuesday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home where services will be conducted at 2 pm 18 April by the Rev. James Boyer. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Born 20 May, 1896 in Jersey County, he was the son of Elzy and Wilda Cope Pickerel. Pickerel was a retired service station attendant, Shell station. His survivors are his wife, Mary Ethel Lorain Pickerel whom he married in 1916; three sons, George of Wood River, Floyd, Glendale, Ariz. And Darrel, Belleville; one daughter, Helen Stamps of Godfrey; 10 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren. His parents, four brothers, three sisters preceded him in death. The Community Christian church has been designated as a memorial.
PICKEREL. 5 April 1979: The funeral of Clarence Edmon Pickerel, 70, of 704 E. Pearl, Jerseyville was conducted Thursday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Noah Clay officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. He died at 4:45 pm 2 April at Jersey Community Hospital. Pickerel was a retired meat cutter from Hansen Packing Co. Born 26 October 1908 in Jersey County, he was a son of Elzy and Wilda Cope, Sr. His survivors are his wife, Bonnie Wade Pickerel; three Sons, Kenneth, Fort Madison, Iowa, Frederick, Albuquerque, NM and Ralph of Jerseyville; one daughter, Diana Landon of Fenton, Missouri; one brother, George Pickerel of Jerseyville; nine grandchildren. His parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. The First Baptist church has been named as the memorial.
PICKEREL. 25 November 1965: Mrs. Dorothy Pickerel, wife of Ralph Pickerel and mother of four young children, died at 12:30 o’clock Monday morning, 22 Nov. at St. Luke’s hospital in St. Louis of injuries received in an automobile accident on November 15 near Greenville. Immediately following the accident she was hospitalized in Greenville and was transferred Wednesday to St. Luke’s. Her father-in-law, Clarence Pickeral of this city, seriously injured in the same accident, remains a patient at St. Luke’s where little change is noted in his condition. Other members of the family in the accident including Mrs. Clarence Pickerel of Jerseyville and the four children of the young mother have all been released from hospitals. Funeral services for Mrs. Pickerel will be held Wed afternoon, 24 Nov, at two o’clock at Farnsworth Funeral Home in Tamms and burial will take place there. In addition to her husband, the twenty-three year old Mrs. Pickerel is survived by three months old twins, Scott and Todd, an eight year old son, Clifton, and a four year old daughter, Kimberly; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Maze of Tamms; and one brother, Eugene of Elgin. Mrs. Pickerel and her children had been at the home of her parents since the birth of the twins in August. Her parents-in-law had gone to Tamms on Monday to bring the family to Jerseyville to visit a week before joining their husband and father in Elgin.

PICKETT. Jerseyville Republican 21 September 1921: Fred Francis Pickett, 21 years old, died of typhoid fever at home of his father, edward E. Pickett on E. carpenter St. Funeral from home. Rev. R. B. Favoright. Burial in McDow cemetery.
PICKETT. Services were held in Tulsa, Okla., for former Jerseyville resident, Leo Wayne Pickett, 52, who died 14 October in Tulsa. Born in Jerseyville, son of the Late Leo Laverne and Dorothy (Ford) Pickett, he married the former Laurie Crow, who survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are seven daughters, four sons; nine grandchildren; and two Sisters, Ida Young of Alton and Ruth Haynes of Mesa, Ariz. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery in Sand Springs, Okla.
PICKETT. 28 April 1950: Mrs. Edna Pickett, wife of Ralph Pickett of Jerseyville, died at four-fifteen o’clock Sunday afternoon, 23 April at St. Joseph hospital in Alton where she had been a patient for several weeks. The deceased was born in Fieldon 16 December 1909, and her age at the time of death was forty years, four months and seventeen days. In addition to her husband she is survived by three daughters, Doris, Betty and Anna Pickett of Jerseyville; two Sons, Ralph Pickett and Dallas Gilbert of Jerseyville; two sisters, Mrs. Ira Wilson of Jerseyville and Mrs. Julia Schaaf of Fieldon and three brothers, Woodrow, Henry Lee and Wilbert Ford of Jerseyville. Funeral services were held at the Gubser Funeral Home Wednesday, 26 April at two o’clock with Rev. Harry Frazier officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.
PIEPER. Died 13-12-1990. Jerseyville – Agatha Pieper, 94, died at 10 pm Thursday, 13 December at home. Born in Greene County, she was the daughter of the Late Henry and Emma (Schmidt) Goedde. She married Charles Pieper on 7 February 1916 in Fieldon, and he died on 19 April 1964. Surviving are a daughter, Maurita Pieper of Jerseyville; and two sons, Carl Pieper of Jerseyville and Norbert Pieper of Tucson, Ariz. No visitation is scheduled. A funeral mass is at 10 am Monday at Holy Ghost Catholic church in Jerseyville with the Rev. William Hembrow as celebrant. Burial is in St. Mary’s cemetery in Fieldon. Memorials may be made to Holy Ghost/St. Francis school in Jerseyville or to masses. Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home of Jerseyville is in charge of arrangements.
PIEPER. 28 December 1972: Final services were held Wednesday morning at Jacoby Funeral Home for John Edward Pieper, 49, of Route Three, Jerseyville, who was pronounce dead on arrival at Jersey Community Hospital at 10:44 pm on 24 December. His death was unexpected. Interment was in Valhalla Memorial Park. Father Robert Morris officiated. He was born 6 August 1923 in Jersey County, the son of Charles and Agatha Goedde Pieper. Mr. Pieper was engaged in farming. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Tribble Pieper; two daughters, Cynthia, at home, and Mrs. Shirley Bonds of Decatur; three grandchildren; two brothers, Carl F. Pieper and Norbert Peiper of Jerseyville; one sister, Miss Maurieta Pieper; and his mother. Visitation was held at the Funeral Home.
PIERCE. 16 August 1973: Funeral services are to be held at ten o’clock this (thurs) morning at Gubser Funeral Home for Mrs. Louise H. Pierce of 204 West Carpenter St., Jerseyville. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs. Pierce was born in Tomboro, Georgia, 20 June 1904. Her death occurred at nine o’clock Monday evening at her home. Surviving Mrs. Pierce is a daughter, Mrs. George Cottingham of West Virginia.
PIERRE. 19 June 1975: Funeral mass for William Anthony Pierre, 76, of Greenwood Manor was celebrated Saturday Morning, 14 June at the Holy Ghost church with the Rev. Robert Heintz celebrant. His death occurred at 11:30 am on 12 June at Jersey Community Hospital. Interment was in St. Francis cemetery. A retired employee of the former International Shoe Co., he was born 12 November 1898 in Jerseyville, a son of Antony & Clara Rattinger Pierre. He is survived by one brother, Rainer G. Pierre of Jerseyville. His parents, one brother and two sisters preceded him in death. Visitation was held at Jacoby Funeral Home where the rosary was recited Friday evening.
PIERRE. Jerseyville Republican August 1896: George Pierre died at his home in Jerseyville. Thursday, 6 Aug, 1896. 72 years old. Funeral from Holy Ghost church.
PIERRE. 11 September 1978: Funeral mass for Ranier George Pierre, 85, of 408 N. Giddings, Jerseyville will be celebrated at 10 am Friday morning at Holy Ghost Catholic church with Father William Hembrow celebrant. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier cemetery. He died at 7:46 pm 29 August at Jersey Community Hospital. He was born 1 April 1893 in Jerseyville, a son of Anthony and Clara Rettinger Pierre. He had been a maintenance worker for the State of Illinois. A World War I veteran, Pierre was a member of the American Legion 40 & 8 Voiture, Eagles Lodge 2747 and Modern Woodman of America. He is survived by a Niece, Ilene Bahara of Saratogo, Calif., and a brother-in-law, John Klug of Granite City. His parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Visitation is from 4 to 9 pm Thursday at Jacoby Funeral Home where the rosary will be recited at 8 pm.
PIERSON. 1953: Mrs. Clara E. Pierson, a resident of Otterville for the past several months, died at her home at twelve-thirty oclock Sunday, 29 March after an extended period of ill health. The deceased was a native of Wayneville, Missouri and her age at the time of death was seventy-seven years, nine months and seventeen days. Mrs. Pierson is survived by one son, Orville L. Osborne of Jerseyville, rural route three. Her husband, Albert Pierson preceded her in death. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at the Otterville Baptist church, Tuesday, March 31, at 10 o’clock in the morning. Rev. Ernest G. Hardin officiated and interment was in the Winchester cemetery. Obit #2: Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Otterville, Tuesday morning at ten o’clock for Mrs. Clara E. Pierson, 85, whose death occurred Sunday at the home of her son and daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Orville Osburn. Rev. Ernest Hardin of St. Louis, pastor of the church, conducted the rites. Mrs. Pierson had made her home with her son for a number of years. She was the mother of five children, four of whom preceded her in death. Her only survivor is her son, Mr. Osburn.
PIGGOTT. Jerseyville Republican 22 June 1905: Andrew Piggott died at home five miles southeast of Jerseyville. 47 years old. Funeral from home. Rev. W. burial in Oak Grove.
PIGGOTT. Jerseyville Republican 29 March 1923: Mrs. Mary L. Piggott died at home in Alton 22 March. Born in Jersey County 8 January 1845. Member of Elsah Rebekah Lodge at Elsah. Married Isaac Piggott on 29 November 1860. They conducted Riverside Hotel in Elsah for number of years. Leaves four children, Mrs. J. C. Stout, Mrs. Matthew Fitzgerald, Miss Addie Piggott of Alton, Robert Piggott of St. Louis. Sixteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Funeral at Elsah.
PIGGOTT. 1950: Robert Piggott, a native of Elsah, died Friday morning, March 26, at three-thirty o’clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Arthur Boswick in St. Louis following a lingering illness. He had made his home in St. Louis for the past four or five years. Mr. Piggott was the son of the late Newton and Mary Piggott, early settlers of Elsah. The decedent was in his late seventies. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Boswick, and one son, John Piggott of St. Louis; one sister, Mrs. Lela Stout of Alton, three granddaughters, and one great grand daughter, all of St. Louis. Funeral rites were held Monday morning in St. Louis and the body was brought to Elsah for interment in the family lot in the Elsah cemetery.
PIGGOTT. 5 May 1951: William S. Piggott, a retired rural mail carrier out of the Jerseyville Post office, died Sat. evening, 28 April at six-thirty o’clock at Boyd Memorial hospital where he had been a patient for two days. The decedent was a son of the late Levi and Mary Begole Piggott and was born in St. Clair County on 12 November 1864. His age at the time of death was eighty-six yrs, five months and sixteen days. Mr. Piggott retired about twenty-one years ago after carrying mail for thirty-one years. He made his home for a number of years with the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Birkenmayer. His survivors are nephews and nieces. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon May 1, at two o’clock at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home, Rev. Laverne Poole, pastor of the First Baptist church officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.

The death of Mr. Piggott, a retired farmer who resided on Route 1, Jerseyville, occurred Wednesday at the Jersey Community Hospital where he had been admitted for treatment five days earlier. Mr. Piggott, a son of the late Andrew B. and Elizabeth Jane McCollister Piggott, was born in Jersey County 4 November 1895. He is survived by two brothers, Charles of Alton, and Raymond of Medora, and several nephews and nieces.
PIGGOTT. 31 May 1970: Miss Mary S. Piggott, a lifelong resident of Jersey County, died at Barnes hospital in St. Louis Monday where she had been a patient since April 27. Visitation hours were held from four to nine o’clock Wednesday at the Gubser Funeral Home where services are to be held at two o’clock this (thurs) afternoon, Rev. M. Edwards Breed will officiate and burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Miss Piggott, a daughter of the late Andrew B. and Elizabeth Jane McCollister Piggott, was born in Jersey County, 17 November 1892. She is survived by three brothers, Charles of Alton, Raymond of Medora, and Leslie of Jerseyville, and several nephews and nieces. Miss Piggott was a member of the United Methodist church of Jerseyville and the Jersey County Homemakers Extension Association.
PIGGOTT. 31 January 1957: Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Piggott one of the older residents of Jersey County, died at her home southeast of Jerseyville at one-thirty o’clock Monday afternoon, January 28 following an extended period of ill health. Funeral services were held at two o’clock Wednesday afternoon, January 30, at the Gubser Funeral Home. Rev. Earl Dickey, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs. Piggott was a daughter of the late Isaac and Sylvia North McCollister, and she was born in Fidelity 9 May, 1862. Her age at the time of death was ninety-four years, eight months and nineteen days. Surviving the decedent are a daughter, Miss Mary Piggott of Jerseyville; three Sons, Charles of Alton, Raymond of Medora, and Leslie of Jerseyville; one sister, Mrs. Ida Dodge of Medora, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew B. Piggott, one son, Homer and a daughter, Mabel.
PIGGOTT. Prairie State 24 August 1850: Died, at Newbern, Jersey County, Illinois On the 31st day of July last, Mrs. Lucinda Piggott, wife of James A. Piggott, Esq., in the 31st year of her age. She died in full hope of a brighter world than this, desiring her husband and friends to be prepared to follow her. She has left an affectionate husband and four children, with many relatives and friends to mourn her loss.
PIKE. April 1955: Mrs. Anna Pike, wife of Thomas Pike of Roodhouse, former resident of Jerseyville, died at twelve-thirty ‘clock pm Sunday, 10 April, at a hospital in Jacksonville following a week’s illness. She had been in failing health for some time. Mrs. Pike was born in Jerseyville, 14 July 1882, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Fitzpatrick. She was seventy-two years old at the time of her death. Her marriage to Thomas Pike took place on 11 May 1907. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Pike is survived by one son, Paul Pike of Edwardsville; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Voyles of Granite City, and Mrs. Ruth Westerdahl of Chicago; one sister, Mrs. Rosa Sperling of Edwards, Missouri, and nine grandchildren. She was a sister-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. William Pike of Jerseyville. Funeral services were held at the Wolfe Memorial Home in Roodhouse at two o’clock Tuesday afternoon. Rev. D. F. Lydon officiated and interment was in the Fernwood cemetery.

PILGER. Jerseyville – Patrick Kevin Pilger, 26, died at 3:20 pm Sunday, 6 November 1988 at his residence. He was born in Clarksville, Arkansas, son of William and Mayme (Hamill) Pilger of St. Genevieve, Missouri. On April 19 1983, he married the former Terena Chapman at Shipman, and she survives. Also surviving are a daughter Amanda and a son, Patrick Kevin Pilger II, both at home; a brother, William Pilger of St. Genevieve; two sisters, Terry Pilger of St. Genevieve and Penelope Wolff of South Carolina; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lavert Hamill of Batesville, Arkansas. Visitation is 4:30 pm Tuesday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville where services will be conducted 11 am Wednesday by Rev. Frank Marshall. Burial will be in Grimes-Neely cemetery near Jerseyville. A custodial trust fund has been established for the children in care of the State Bank of Jerseyville. A coroner’s inquest is pending.

PILLE. 11 November 1980: A funeral mass for Mary S. “Mae” Pille, 78, of 408 S. Washington, Jerseyville was concelebrated Monday morning at St. Francis Xavier church with Father Patrick Morrow and Father William Hembrow concelebrants. Burial was in St. Francis cemetery. She died at 9:35 am 7 November at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home where she had been a resident for the past year. She was born 15 June 1902 in Jersey County, a daughter of the late John T. and Mary Vaughn Shines. Mrs. pille was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church and Altar Society, World War I Veterans Auxiliary and American Legion Post 492 Auxiliary, Senior Citizens and was a charter member of the Jersey County Home Extension and Jersey Community Hospital Auxiliary. Her survivors are a daughter and Son, Mary Ann Pohlman and John J. “Bud” Pille, both of Jerseyville; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a Sister, Irene Shines of Oak Park and one Brother, Leslie Shines of Jerseyville. Her husband, John H. Pille, died 10 January 1979. The rosary was recited Sunday evening at Gubser Funeral Home. The St. Francis building fund has been named as a memorial.
PILLIE. 11 January 1979: John H. Pillie, 89, of 408 S. Washington, Jerseyville, died at 2:55 am 10 January at Jersey Community Hospital where he had been admitted around midnight. He was born 4 February 1889 in Effingham, a son of Herman and Anna Bilskemper. He retired from farming in 1969. A World War I veteran, he was a member of the American Legion and World War I barracks of which he was a trustee. Pille was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus. His survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mae Shines Pille whom he married 30 August 1927; one son, John J. Pille of Jerseyville and a daughter, Mrs. John (Mary Ann) Pohlman, Jr. of Jerseyville; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Clem Vogt of Effingham. He was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother. Visitation will be after 4 pm Friday at Gubser Funeral Home where the World War I veterans will conduct a service at 7 pm. The rosary will be recited at 8 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am 13 January at St. Francis Xavier church with Father Patrick Morrow and father William Hembrow concelebrants. Burial will be in St. Francis cemetery. The family has designated St. Francis church as a memorial.
PINKERTON. 16 March 1982: Charles B. Pinkerton, 99, who owned and operated the Jersey County News from 1915 to 1937 died around 5:30 am on 8 March at St. Joseph’s hospital in Phoenix, Ariz. Pinkerton was born 25 August 1882 in Rantoul and was educated in Illinois schools. His wife is the former Hazel Simpson of Jerseyville. Two forerunners of this newspaper were the Jersey County Democrat and the Jerseyville Republican. In 1924 Walter B. Tietsort acquired half interest in the old Jerseyville Republican with Charles B. Pinkerton. At that time the Medora Messenger was merged with the Republican and both names were dropped in favor of the Jersey County News. In 1937 they sold the newspaper to the late James L. Mclaren. The Pinkertons moved to Phoenix and Tietsort accepted a position on the Alton Evening Telegraph. Pinkerton was affiliated with Phoenix newspapers for 32 years. He was a 67 year Mason and a 62 year member of the Shriners. He is survived by his wife, Hazel; one daughter, Frances Mann, a great-grandson and great granddaughter, all of Falls Church, VA. Masonic services were conducted Thursday at the A. L. Moore Mortuary in Phoenix.
PINKERTON. Phoenix, Ariz.: Former Jerseyville resident, Hazel I. Pinkerton, 79, died at 11 pm Saturday, 13 January 1990 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Phoenix, following a lengthy illness. Born in Jerseyville, she was the daughter of the late George and Mabel Simpson. She had been a linotype operator for the Jersey County Republic paper, retired from the Phoenix Gazette and was a charter member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #40 in Phoenix. In 1937, in St. Louis, she married Charles Pinkerton. He died March, 1982. Surviving are four sisters, Viola Anderson of Wrights, Myrle Willis of Jerseyville, Helen Laughlin of Orlando, Florida, and Thelma Craigmiles of Tavares, Florida; and two Brothers, Dean Simpson of Greenwood, Indiana and Bill Simpson of Phoenix. Preceding her in death were three Sisters, Fay Terpening, Mabel McCoy and Mildred Darr. The body will be cremated. A memorial service will be at 2 pm Wednesday at A. L. Moore and Sons Funeral Home in Phoenix.

PIRTLE. 14 October 1976: Mrs. Jeanette C. Pirtle, 58, of 505 N. State St., Jerseyville, wife of William Warren Pirtle, died at 7:50 am on 13 October at Jersey Community Hospital. Services will be held at 2 pm Friday 15 October at the First Presbyterian church with the Rev. M. Edwards Breed officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery. She was born 24 June 1918 in Carrollton, a daughter of R. Leo and Adah Schafer Smith. Mrs. Pirtle was a member of the Presbyterian church in Jerseyville and the P.E.O Sisterhood. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, William Warren Pirtle; one daughter, Linda Lee Pirtle of Springfield; her mother, Mrs. R. Leo Smith; and one sister, Mrs. Matthew (Roberta) Dwyer of Jerseyville. Her Father, R. Leo Smith preceded her in death. Visitation will be held today 14 Oct. The family has named the cancer society as a memorial.
PIRTLE. Cemetery Oak Grove. Jerseyville – Forrest Edward Pirtle, 73, died at 12:20 pm Thursday 20 Jul, 1989 at Jersey Community Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Born in Flora, he was the son of Edith (Thompson) Pirtle of Jerseyville and the late Sherrill E. Pirtle. For more than 40 years, he and his brother, Warren Pirtle, operated the Pirtle Circuit of theaters, founded by their father in Illinois and Missouri. He retired in 1975. On 1 November 1941, in Greenville, he married the former Elizabeth Anne Demoulin. Surviving are his wife and mother; a daughter, Dianne Pirtle of Long Beach, Calif.; two sons, Leslie Pirtle of St. Charles, Missouri, and William F. Pirtle of Santa Monica, Calif.; two grandchildren; and a brother, Warren Pirtle of Jerseyville. Visitation is 6-9 pm today at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville and continues at First United Presbyterian church of Jerseyville noon Saturday until time of services at 2 pm. Rev. Simon A. PIRTLE. Jerseyville – Edith Pirtle, 94, died at 2:40 pm Thursday 2 November 1989 at Greenwood Manor, Jerseyville, after a lengthy illness. She retired from Pirtle theaters and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Lodge 656, both in Jerseyville. Born in Fulton, KY, she was the daughter of the late W. J. and Mattie (Browder) Thompson. She married Sherrill Edward Pirtle in 1913. He died on 16 May 1966. Surviving are a son, Warren Pirtle of Jerseyville; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a sister, Geri McMahon of Fulton, KY. Preceding her in death were a son, Forrest E. Pirtle; three Brothers, Fred, Clayton and Charles Thompson; and three Sisters, Linnie Clark, Lucille Hynds and her twin, Esther Rout. Visitation is from 9:30 am Saturday until service time at 11:30 am at the First Presbyterian church in Jerseyville. The Rev. Simon A. Simon will officiate. PIRTLE. Died 07-04-1982. 8 April 1982: Fieldon – Laverne Pirtle, 72, died unexpectedly at 6:57 pm Wednesday at Jersey Community Hospital, Jerseyville. He and his wife, the Former Marietta Garrison, whom he married on 21 January 1931, Operated Ladon Appliance Service and Laundromat for 22 years, retiring in 1975. Preceded in death by his wife, 7 April, the World War II Navy veteran was born in Grand Tower, a son of the late Otis and Ethel (Burns) Pirtle. Surviving are a foster daughter, Carolyn Tucker of Fieldon; two Sisters, Lucille Mann and Vina Belle Strange, both of Buchanan, Tenn.; and three brothers, Bill Lawson of Sacramento, Calif., Roland Lawson of Austin, Texas and James Lawson of Indianapolis, Indiana. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 pm today at Smith Funeral Home, Alton, where services will be held at 1pm Friday with the Rev. Norton Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
PISTORIUS. 09 November 1967: (Picture appears) Virgil H. Pistorius, Jerseyville father of eight children died at 4:55 o’clock Wednesday morning in St. Luke’s hospital in St. Louis where he had been moved on Sunday after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage at the family home, 401 West Arch Street. His condition had been critical from the onset of the illness. Visitation hours will be held at the Gubser Funeral Home after two o’clock this (thurs) afternoon. A memorial service will be conducted at 8 o’clock this evening by the Jerseyville Elks Lodge. Final rites will be held on Friday, 10 November at 1:00 o’clock at the first Methodist church with the Rev. W. Louis Purcell officiating. Burial will be in the Boody cemetery near Decatur. Mr. Pistorius was born August 25, 1929 in Carlinville, a son of Mrs. Marie Konneker Pistorius and the Late Virgil Pistorius. He was graduated from the Carlinville high school in 1947 and became an employee of the Walker 5 Cents to $1.00 Store. Mr. Pistorius entered military service during the Korean strife and served in the Army from 1951 to 1953. He was in the Counter Intelligence Corps. Upon completion of his military duty he resumed his employment with the Walker firm. He was transferred to Jerseyville from Louisiana, Missouri, in Feb. 1954 to become assistant manager of the Jerseyville store. He continued with the Walker firm until five years ago when he accepted the position with Western Auto store in this city which he held at the time of death. Mr. Pistorius was active in the work of Jerseyville Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and served as grand exalted ruler in 1960. He was a member of the First Methodist church and a former member of the Jerseyville Jaycees. His survivors are his wife, Mrs. Jean Pistorius a reporter for radio station WJBM and the Democrat News, four Sons, Mark,15, Stephen, 14, Kurt, 13, and Eric, 8; four daughters, Mary Carol, 11, Diane, 10, Laurie, 7 and Lisa, 2 1/2 of this city; his mother, Mrs. Virgil Pistorius, Sr., a brother, David, and a sister, Maryanna, of Carlinville and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. C. P. Konneker of Carlinville.
PITSINOS. 23 July 1980: Services for Lucille N. Pitsinos, 68, of Alton were conducted Tuesday afternoon at Gent Funeral Home, Alton with the Rev. Kenneth Edelman officiating. Burial was in St. Matthew’s cemetery, St. Louis. She died 20 July at Blu-Fountain Manor Nursing Home, Godfrey. Born in Jersey County, she was a daughter of the Late Frank and Sarah Ann Ludlow Spencer. She was employed at Bevo-Mill Restaurant in St. Louis for 20 years, retiring in 1977. She is survived by three sisters, Sarah Hagen of Godfrey, Beatrice Matthews of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Virginia Vice of Paris. Her husband, John Pitsinos died in 1953.
PITT. 14 July 1977: Services for William C. Pitt, 80, of 206 Sherman St., Jerseyville were conducted Wednesday afternoon from Gubser Funeral Home with the Rev. Everett Chambers officiating. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. He died at 11 am on 11 July at the White Hall hospital. He was born in Mt. Olive, 27 November 1896, a son of Edward and Lucy Black Pitt. His survivors are his widow, Mrs. Anna Bates Pitt; one son, Edward Pitt of Greenfield and two daughters, Mrs. Marvell Martin of Winchester and Mrs. Orville (Wilma) Shenkel of East Alton; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren.
PITTENGER. 29 September 1986: Grafton – Grace A. Pittenger, 89, died at 12:45 pm Monday, 29 September 1986 at Greenwood Manor in Jerseyville. She was born in Grafton, a daughter of the late Albert and Fannie Larbey. Her husband, Earl Pittenger preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, Carl Pittenger of Grafton; a daughter, Helen Slaten of Alton; and a sister, Luila Legate of Grafton. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 pm Wednesday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Visitation will continue at the Grafton Methodist church from 11 am Thursday until service time at 2 pm. The Revs. Tommy Brewer and R. E. George will officiate. Burial will be at Scenic Hill cemetery in Grafton. The church has been designated as memorial.

PITTINGER. 8 March 1924: J. W. Pittinger died at home of son-in-law, George Mears, of Greenfield. 75 years old. He was a brother of Mary E. Shafer of Jerseyville. Funeral from Mears home and burial in Greenfield cemetery. Born near Williamsport, PA 4 August 1849. Married Clara A. Shafer on 2 February 1876. Five children: two died in infancy. Leaves widow and three children: Mrs. A. C. Journey of Hettick. Mrs. G. R. Mears of Greenfield and E. W. Pittinger of Grafton. 14 grandchildren. PITTINGER. 1896: Yesterday all that remained of W. J. Pittinger of Goddard, was consigned to the grave there to find repose after a long life of usefulness to his country and fellow men. Mr. Pittinger died Saturday night after a long illness from Bright’s disease. For eighteen years he had been a resident of this county and was always one of its most highly respected citizens. He was a man of few words, silent and retiring in his disposition, but he had as good a head and heart as any many in this county. He was universally liked by his fellow citizens and highly beloved by his neighbors. When a middle aged man he enlisted in the service of his country and had a war record so replete with deeds of courage and patriotism that a general might well feel proud of it. Many men have high towering monuments of bronze and marble to perpetuate their memory who were not anymore entitled to them than Mr. Pittinger. He was always a very consistent member of the Grand Army of the Republic and of Odd Fellowship. Last fall he was nominated by the Republicans of his district for County Commissioner and while he did not get elected he ran ahead of every other man with him in the territory embraced in his district. If there is any reward for leading a good pure, manly, upright and honorable life, Mr. Pittinger is in the full enjoyment of it now. – the Wichita Daily Eagle. PITTMAN. Jerseyville Republican. 28 April 1898: Mrs. Wm. Spencer was called to Virden Friday to attend the funeral of her oldest brother, Joseph H. Pittman. The deceased was a former resident of Jersey County.
PITTMAN. Died in Jerseyville, on Friday last, April the 28th, Mr. William PITTMAN, in the 51st year of his age. In announcing the death of Mr. Pittman, we chronical the loss of one of our best citizens, and one whose counsels have done much to give character to the town. He was a good man in all the qualities of a Christian, a neighbor, a public servant, a friend and father, and his loss will be keenly felt in all these capacities. His burial took place on Sunday from the Presbyterian Church, and was attended by all denominations of Christians and the public generally. Mr. Foote preached the sermon, and was assisted by the Baptist and Methodist clergymen of this town. We have not at hand a record of the various public positions he held during the many years he has lived with us, and before his coming, but we do know that in the discharge of any duty he assumed he was earnest, faithful and efficient. He was practical and thorough in whatever he undertook, and his example was a daily lesson of industry, frugality and perseverance. PITTMAN. Jersey County Democrat. 14 May 1891: Mrs. Jane Rogers Pittmann born at Englishtown, Middlesex County, New Jersey 7 February 1828. At age of 12 came with parents to Jerseyville. Joined Presbyterian church under pastorate of Luke Lyons. In April 1844 she married William P. Pittman. Two daughters and one Son; Annie P. Schackelford, Wife of R. P. Shackelford, Jennie L. and Wm. S. Pittman. Three Grandchildren: Minnie D., Jennie P. and Willie J. Schackelford. Also a niece, Mrs. Emma Wood Hutchinson, who was member of the family for many years. Funeral from her home. Rev. Tyson serving. Pallbearers: J. C. Darby, Anderson McReynolds, James Calhoun, James A. Barr, T. J. McReynolds, William Nevius, R. T. Brock and Wm. Hall. PITTMAN. 15 November 1906: Charles C. Pittman born in Jerseyville 22 September 1846 and died 15 November 1906. 60 years old. Married 32 years ago last March. Father of six children, one of whom, James Joseph, died when 15 months old. Wife and 5 children survive him. Children are: Mrs. Alice Snyder of Carlinville, Dean, Irene, Vernon and Dwight. Three sisters, Mrs. Chester Maltby of Carlinville, Rebecca Spencer of Jerseyville, Josephine Conn of Springfield and a half brother, Sam Pittman of Carlinville. From Virden Reporter.

PIVODA. 18 September 1985: Former Alton resident, John D. Pivoda, 80, of Mayer, Ariz., died at 1 am Monday in Prescott, Ariz. after a lengthy illness. He was a retired carpenter and was last employed by Campbell Construction in Phoenix. Born in Grafton, son of the late stephen A. and Mary J. (Schlansker) Pivoda, he married the former Edna Fields on 31 October 1928 and she survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Nyma Jane Capobres of Mayer, Ariz.; one Son, Jack of Los Vegas, Nev.; 10 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, Marion S. of Roxana; and five sisters, Dr. Maybelle Williams of Bethalto , Ida Dunsing and Marjorie Dintelmann, both of Godfrey, Sarah Thornton of Nebo and Helen Rockefeller of Newberg, Ore. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 pm Thursday at Chapel of the Chimes in Glendale, Ariz., where services will be conducted at 11 am Friday. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Phoenix.
PIVODA. Jerseyville Republican. 14 October 1909: Thomas Pivoda died at Ruebel’s Hotel last Sunday, 22 years of age. Severe pains in stomach a few days ago. Doctor could not give relief and decided to send him to Alton for treatment. Left home and when he reached Grafton his condition became so serious he could not proceed. Dr. J. N. Schaff of Alton called and assisted Drs. Park and Warner, perform surgical operation removing chicken bone about two inches in length from his intestines. Mr. Pivoda had sharpened the bone and used it for a tooth pick, but could not recall swallowing it. Inflammation of the bowels cause of death.

Born in Austria and lived in vicinity for 30 years. Conducted fruit farm and garden for past years and well known. Wife and 8 children. PLATO. Jerseyville – Edward Lewis Plato, 71, died at 2:10 am Saturday, 11 April 1992 at St. John’s Mercy Nursing Center in St. Louis. A World War II veteran, he was a furnace worker at Owens-Illinois Glass Co. in Alton, retiring in 1982, and a member of the Alton VFW Post 1308. Born in Kane 11 April 1921, he was a son of the late William and Ona (Whitlock) Plato. He married the former Arvella Flatt 29 Jul, 1950 in Pocahontas, Arkansas. She died 20 September 1977. Surviving are a son, Scott Plato of Springfield; two daughters, Sally Stumpe of Dow and Alice Lee McAdams of Hardin; three grandchildren; two brothers, William Plato of Jerseyville and Phillip Plato of Kane; and two sisters, Lucille Wankel and Mae Milner, both of Kane. A sister, Helen Cope, preceded him in death. Visitation is from 5 to 8 pm today at Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services are at 10 am Monday. The Rev. Paul Frazier will officiate. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Jerseyville American Legion 492 and VFW Post 4528 at Oak Grove cemetery in Jerseyville. She was born 12 January 1927 in Greene County and was a daughter of Mrs. Mabel Shaw Flatt of Eldred and the late Milton Flatt. Her survivors are her husband, Edward Plato whom she married 29 July 1950 in Pocahontas, Arkansas, a son, Scott Plato, at home; two daughters, Mrs. David (Sally) Stumpe of Dow and Mrs. Richard (Alice Lee) McAdams of Hardin; two brothers, William K. Flatt of Carrollton and Harold J. PLATTO. Alton – Walter M. Platto, 66, died at 2:25 pm Thursday, 9 August 1990, at St. Anthony’s hospital in Alton. He was a foreman at Laclede Steel Co. in Alton and a US Navy World War II veteran. Born in Kane, he was the son of the late Howard and Lela (Crane) Platto. He married the former Catherine Arter on 11 October 1945, in Jerseyville, and she survives.. Also surviving are a son, Paul Platto of Lawrenceville, GA; two grandchildren; three brothers, Phillip and Paul Platto, both of Kane, and William Platto of Cedar Creek, Texas; and four sisters, Eva Rasche of Florissant, Missouri, Edna Smith of Bethalto, Delores Carr of Houston, Texas and Barbara Johnson of Medora. PLUMB. 1959: Mrs. Albertha Plumb of Fieldon died at two o’clock Saturday Morning, 2 April at the Carter Moon Hospital in Franklin, Kentucky, where she was moved for treatment after becoming ill last Tuesday while visiting at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Grant Gresham, Jr., in Franklin. She had been in failing health for some time. Mrs. Plumb was born in Jersey County 31 Oct, a daughter of the late Louis and Laura Matthews Andrews. Her age at the time of death was sixty-seven years, five months and one day. She was the widow of Edward Plumb. The deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Gresham of Kentucky, Mrs. John W. Murray of Dow; one son, Pearl E. Plumb of Fieldon; ten grandchildren, and one brother, James Andrews of Fieldon. The body was brought to Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville where funeral services were held at two o’clock Tuesday afternoon, 5 April. The Rev. Louis Kappler officiated and interment was in the Rosedale cemetery.
PLUMB. Nov 1986: Jerseyville – Pearl E. “Peck” Plumb, 62, a resident of Calhoun County Care Center, died at 12:55 am today, 29 November 1986, at Jersey Community Hospital. The son of the late Edward and Albertha (Andrews) Plumb, he was a World War II veteran and a construction welder and machinist. Surviving are two Daughters, Deborah Plumb of Edwardsville and Keetra Holiday of Granite City; two Sons, Greg Plumb of West Virginia and Dennis Plumb of Tulsa, Okla; seven grandchildren; and two Sisters, Helen Murray of Otterville and Opal Gresham of Jerseyville. Nov 1951: Ffuneral services were held at Nutwood Pentecostal Church Monday afternoon, 26 November at two o’clock for Edward Plumb, a resident of the Fieldon vicinity, whose death occurred Friday, 23 November at 10:45 am at St. Joseph hospital in Alton where he had been a patient since Wednesday. Rev. Louis Kappler conducted the rites and interment was in the Rosedale cemetery. Mr. Plumb was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lafe Plumb and was born in Madison County on 24 May 1887. He had resided in Jersey County for a number of years. Mr. Plumb was aged sixty-four years, five months and twenty-nine days. The decedent is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alberta Andrews Plumb of Fieldon; two daughters, Mrs. Grant Gresham of Bowling Green, KY, and Mrs. John Murray of Jerseyville; one son, Pearl E. Plumb of Jerseyville and seven grandchildren. He also leaves four half-sisters; Mrs. Alva Burch of Fieldon, Mrs. John Powderly of Jerseyville, Mrs. Ruth Farrow of Wood River and Mrs. Alice Griffin of Sacramento, Calif., and seven half brothers, Clyde Phipps of Granite City, Charles Phipps of Wood River, Clarence Plumb, Wilbur Plumb, Earl Plumb and Claude Plumb, all of Alton.
PLUMMER. 30 May 1978: Services for Roscoe E. Plummer, 73, of Kane were held 2 pm 30 May at Gubser Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Patterson of the Grafton Methodist church officiating. Burial was in Rosedale cemetery. He died unexpectedly at his home May 27. A retired farmer, he was born 4 September 1904 in Batchtown, a son of William and Ophelia Delaney Plummer. His survivors are his wife, Florence Suddes Plummer whom he married 22 February 1941; one daughter, Mrs. Derald (Ruth) Waters of Jerseyville, three grandsons; one great-granddaughter. The heart fund was designated as a memorial.
PLUMMER. 17 December 1979: Ruby Ellen Plummer, 89, of 419 E. Exchange St., Jerseyville, the last of the 10 children of George and Praziddie Edwards Kress, died at 11:15 pm 16 December at St. Anthony’s hospital in Alton. She was born 8 April, 1890 in Calhoun County. On 19 November 1912, she married Carl Plummer and he died 26 March of this year. She is survived by one son, Carl C. Plummer, Jr. Jerseyville; two Daughters, Violet Bartlett of Brighton and Dorothy Bartlett of Jerseyville; nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 pm Tuesday, 18 December at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, 19 December at the Funeral Home, Rev. M. Edwards Breed officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove cemetery. The First Presbyterian church in Jerseyville has been named as a memorial.

Her death occurred at 12:55 pm on 26 Feb. At the Jerseyville Care Center. She was born on 12 September in Hamburg, a daughter of Elmer Blackorby. Mrs. Plummer was a member of the Church of Christ. She is survived by two Sons, Emuel Plummer of R. R. 1, Grafton and Cecil Plummer of Fieldon; two daughters, Mrs. Viola Stock of East Alton and Mrs. Sherman (Ester Belle) Dabbs of R. R. 3, Jerseyville; a stepdaughter, Gladys Stemmier of Fieldon; 19 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; brothers Sloke Balckorby of Mozier and Ollie Blackorby, Novinger, Missouri. Her parents, one brother, two sisters, a stepdaughter and a stepson preceded her in death.

Plummer, 71, of Jerseyville whose death occurred on 26 January at Blu Fountain Nursing Home in Godfrey. Burial was in the Plummer cemetery in Calhoun County. He was born 15 October 1901 in Calhoun County the son of George and Bessie Bassett Plummer. He had engaged in farming. Mr. Plummer had resided at Morgan Hotel. His parents preceded him in death.

A former giftshop clerk, she was the widow of Clarence Plummer who preceded her in death in 1951. Two daughters survive. They are Mrs. Forest (Ethel) Duncan of Grafton and Mrs. James (Shirley) Creech of Phoenix, Ariz. There are three surviving Sons: Stanley Plummer of Grafton, Dr. Larry Plummer of Jerseyville, and Thomas w. Plummer of Godfrey. Four surviving sisters are Mrs. Pauline Keechner of Alton, Mrs. Verne Osborne of Golden Eagle, Mrs. Robert Redd of Alton, Mrs. Andrew Robeen of Hardin. A brother, Martin Arnold of Grafton, also survives. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Visitation is after 4 pm Wednesday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton. Prayer service is at 8:15 pm Wednesday at the Funeral Home. Funeral services are at St. Patrick’s church in Grafton at 10 am Thursday with the Rev. Patrick Morrow officiating. PLUMMER. 19 October 1951: Clarence O. Plummer of Grafton died suddenly Saturday Morning, 13 October at nine-fifteen o’clock while at his work at the Illinois Powder Manufacturing Company at Grafton. Plummer had been talking to a co-worker, Burl Hill, and had not complained of feeling ill. He was found dead a short time later by Frederick Miller, another employee of the company. A brother, Thomas, died a few days ago in Detroit. An inquest was conducted by Coroner Rodney C. Jacoby of Jerseyville and death was attributed to natural causes. Mr. Plummer was a son of the late John and Laura Carrico Plummer and was born in Calhoun County on 11 October 1895. His death occurred two days after his fifty-sixth birthday anniversary. The decedent had been a resident of Grafton for the past thirty-five years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edith Arnold Plummer; two daughters, Mrs. Forrest Duncan of Grafton and Mrs. James Creech of Alton; three sons, Stanley Plummer of the US Navy stationed in Japan, Larry and Tommie Plummer of Grafton; four sisters, Mrs. Lillian Eastman of Grafton, Mrs. Lela Keller of St. Louis, Mrs. Cora Schoetker of Monon, Indiana, and Mrs. Ruby Waggoner of Vancouver, Washington. He also leaves seven grandchildren. He was a member of the Grafton City Council serving as alderman, and of the Modern Woodman of America. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon 16 October at two o’clock at St. Patrick’s church with Rev. Father Michael Sheehy officiating. Interment was in Scenic Hill cemetery.
PLUMMER. Jerseyville – Florence M. Plummer, 80, died at 8:40 pm Wednesday, 26 September 1990, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. She was a licensed practical nurse in Jerseyville Nursing Homes until retiring in 1980. Born in Jersey County, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Ablen) Suddeth. On 22 February 1941, in St. Charles, Missouri, she married Roscoe E. Plummer. He died on 27 May 1978. Surviving are a stepdaughter, Ruth Waters of Jerseyville; three grandsons, four great grandchildren; and a sister, Gladys Plummer of Jerseyville. A sister, Edith Powers, preceded her in death. Visitation is from 4 to 8 pm today at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services are at 11 am Saturday. The Rev. Jon Lorch will officiate. Burial is in Rosedale (Ill.) cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association or First Southern Baptist church of Jerseyville, where she was a member.

Eleven children: five died in infancy and two daughters, Mrs. Nona Weighard and Miss Ethel Plummer. Those surviving are: Mrs. Cora Schoetker of Jerseyville, Mrs. Lelia Keller of St. Louis, Clarence Plummer of Grafton and Ruby Waggoner of Wood River. Four step-children, Wm. Plummer of Jersey, Mrs. Ida Douglas of Portland, Ore., Thomas Plummer of Nokimis and Miss Lillie Eastman of Grafton; one sister and one brother, Mrs. Sarah Godfrey and James Carrico of Everet, Wash. and one brother, George Carrico of Twin Falls, Idaho, seven grandchildren and ten step grandchildren.
PLUMMER. 21 March 1968: Oscar Cleveland (Cleve) Plummer, retired carpenter of Grafton, died at twelve-five o’clock pm Monday at St. Anthony hospital in Alton where he had been a patient the past eight weeks. Visitation hours were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home where services were held at two o’clock Wednesday afternoon.. Rev. Randy Morris of Grafton officiated and burial was in Hardin cemetery. Mr. Plummer, a son of the late William and Sarah Ramsey Plummer, was born in Calhoun County. His age at the time of death was eighty-three years, eight months, and four days. His survivors are one daughter, Ida M. Plummer of Alton; one son, Robert Ralph Plummer of Galveston, Texas, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

His survivors are his widow, the former Alice Vinson; two Sons, Paul W. Plummer of Grafton and Norman D. of Clarksville, Tenn.; a daughter Mrs. Gene (Phyllis) Daughhette, Edwardsville; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two brothers, Emuel Plummer of Grafton and Cecil Plummer of Jerseyville; and three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Stemmler of Fieldon, Mrs. Viola Stock of East Alton and Esther Belle Dabbs of Jerseyville; and his stepmother, Mrs. Melvin Plummer of Jerseyville. PLUMMER. Jerseyville – Bessie Plummer, 88, of Jerseyville, died at 10:10 am Thursday 31 December 1987 at Jerseyville Community Hospital. She was born in Popular Bluff, Missouri, to the late John and Anna (Sheridan) Plummer. Surviving is a nephew, Herbert Coleman of Jerseyville. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nora Carpenter and Mary Coleman. Visitation will be 3-8 today at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be conducted at 2 pm Sunday. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be donated to a charity of one’s choice.
PLUMMER. Mar 1947: Mrs. Mary Rosalie Plummer, wife of Thomas G. Plummer of Grafton, died at her home Monday afternoon, March 3 at one-thirty o’clock, at the age of seventy-four years, three months and three days. The deceased was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Kinnie Macker, and was born November, 1872, in Laharpe, Illinois. She had been a resident of Grafton for the past twenty-eight years. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Plummer is survived by two sons, Paul D. and Fred Plummer of Grafton; four daughters, Mrs. Thomas Church, Mrs. Verta Lee Freeman, Mrs. Benjamin Carey and Mrs. Charles Besaw of Grafton; twenty-five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Plummer home in Grafton.
PLUMMER. Undated: Funeral rites for Thomas G. Plummer were held Tuesday, November 30, at the Grafton Methodist church for Thomas G. Plummer, whose death occurred at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, city clerk and Mrs. Benjamin Carey. Rev. Edgar Purdy, pastor of the church, officiated at the service and sang “Face to Face” and ” the Lights of Home” accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Purdy. This was the first time in the history of Grafton that anyone can remember that the minister delivered both the sermon and sang the solos. Interment was in the American Legion cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased and were Frank, Tom and Jerome Plummer, Vincent and Roland Carey and Lavern Freeman. The flower bearers were granddaughters of Mr. Plummer and were Misses Ida and Ernestine Plummer, Mary Jane Dille and Ida Mae Church. Mr. Plummer, who was eighty-four years old, was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John F. Plummer, natives of Calhoun County.
PLUMMER. 29 March 1979: Services for Carl Otto Plummer, Sr. 89, a retired farmer, 419 E. Exchange St., Jerseyville, were held Thursday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. M. Edwards Breed officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. He died at 4:45 pm March 26 at Jersey Community Hospital. Born 30 November 1889, he was a son of James and Josephine Presley Plummer. He married Ruby Ellen Kress 19 November 1912 in Alton. Plummer was a 50 year member of Modern Woodmen of America. His survivors are his wife, Ruby; one son, Carl O. Plummer, Jr. of Jerseyville; two Daughters, Dorothy Bartlett of Jerseyville and Violet Bartlett of Brighton; one sister, Alto Kroeschel, Pittsfield; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren. His parents, five brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. The First Presbyterian church of Jerseyville of which he was a member has been designated as a memorial.
PLUMMER? 19 June 1984: The funeral of Alma June Pummill, 61, 610 E. Fourth St., Alton was conducted at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. John Vidakovich officiating. Burial was in the Rosedale cemetery. She died at 7:55 pm 10 June at St Anthony’s hospital in Alton. She was born 19 June 1923 in Jersey County to the late Ezra and Leola Meyers Crull and married Walter Dean Pummill on 29 May 1970 in St. Charles, Missouri. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Dave Plummer of Jerseyville and Mike Plummer of Fieldon; a daughter, Barb Schaaf of Fieldon; one brother, Robert Crull of Fieldon; a sister, Mildred Balster of Springfield; seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, three brothers and two sisters. The Rosedale Methodist church of which she was a member has been named as a memorial.
