Lloyd WEAVER. Jerseyville – Lloyd Weaver, 91, died at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1987, at Jersey Community Hospital, Jerseyville. He had been employed as a carpenter and was born in Jersey County, son of the late Adam and Laura (Garrell) Weaver. On June 23, 1917, in Jerseyville, Weaver married the former Ruby Agnes SCHMIDT. She died Dec. 7, 1984. Survivors include four daughters, Thelma McKINNEY, Geneva ISRINGHAUSEN and Audrey Weaver, all of Jerseyville, and Deloris MARSHALL of Grafton; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two children, two brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Earl D. Clagg officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Bethel Baptist Church of rural Jerseyville. [no publication information available]

Lucille Bernice WEAVER died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James D. Weaver in Grafton, Tuesday, December 29. She had been ill for ten days and her death was of heart affliction. She was 6 years old. Funeral services were held today from the Rosedale church at ten o’clock, Rev. T. H. Roddey officiating. Interment was in the Rosedale cemetery. WEAVER. Jerseyville – Mary Weaver, 83, of 923 S. State, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Jersey Care Center. Born in Jersey County, a daughter of the late Fred and Amanda (SIMPSON) SCHMIDT, she was a retired employee at Olin Corporation. Surviving are two sons, Paul E. MATTHEWS of Plainview and Lamar WEAVER of Jerseyville; six gandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruby Weaver of Jerseyville. A son, a daughter and a sister preceded her in death. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home, Jerseyville, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Robert Broeder officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, and the Peace United Church of Christ has been named as a memorial. [Clipping is dated 1980, no publication information available]

WEDDING. Died 12-02-?? Barclay Wedding, 78 years, 6 months, 22 days, died at his home following a heart attack. He had been in ill health for several years and during the past 3 months, had been worsening. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church with Rev Harrold S Farrill officiating. He was a son of the late Benjamin Wedding. He was born in Rosedale Township in 1846, where he lived until 1856. In that year his father was elected Sheriff of Jersey County and moved his family to Jerseyville. Since that time Mr Wedding has resided continuously in Jerseyville. For many years, Mr Wedding and Justice Fred J Bertman, (whose death closely followed Mr Wedding’s) were closely associated in the clothing store owned by the latter’s father. Upon the death of his employer, Wedding entered the employ of O R Hall and remained – – – Warren-Wiseman Co. Five years ago he retired from that business. April 14, 1884, he married Mary (Whitenack) Wedding. She, with 2 daughters, Mrs Herbert Brinton, Hillsboro and Mrs Gertrude Parsell of Jerseyville survive him. Mr Wedding took a prominent part in the early musical life of the city. He was deeply interested in music and was ever a student of that art. For 19 years he was a member of the choir of St. Francis Xavier church. He was a staunch admirer of Abraham Lincoln and it is a coincidence that he should died on the birth anniversary of the great emancipator. – incomplete.

WEDDING. Ben Wedding, 77, of Long Beach, CA, died on Sunday last. He was a son of the late James & Ellen (Green) Wedding and was born near Rosedale in Jersey Co. He lived in Jersey County until moving to CA 36 years ago. He worked for Railroad Express in Long Beach. Surviving are his wife; 1 son, Randal of Los Angeles; 2 sisters, Mrs Clark Kaslick, Grafton and Mrs Robert Williams of Alton; 2 brothers, James of Fieldon and Richard of Portland, OR.

WEDDING. Died 11-1918. Charles H Wedding, 49, died at his home on N State St. of the flu. He was a self made man and deserving of appreciative recognition for his accomplishments. He built a large automobile business in Jerseyville for sales, maintenance and repairs. Built on N State St, it was a large, modern garage. He was a member of the fire department and a man of splendid character and honesty. Private services were from the home with Rev Joe Jenkins officiating. Burial was in Wedding family Cemetery at Rosedale. He was born in Rosedale, October 25, 1878, and came to Jerseyville with his parents in 1891. He married Ella Carpunky, November 6, 1906. She survives, there were no children Also surviving are 1 brother, collie Wedding; 4 sisters, Mrs Wm Smith and Mrs Morrell Chamberlain of Seattle, WA, Mrs George Gray of Rockbridge and Mrs Wm Fowler of Arlington, WA; his mother, Mrs C H Wedding of Seattle, WA; 1 half brother, Ernest Wedding of Jerseyville; and 1 half sister, Mrs Harry Spottswood, Los Angeles, CA. “Charlie” Wedding and Carl Snyder built the first automobile seen in Jerseyville and made it run.

WEDDING. Died 11-1908. Charles H Wedding Sr, 65, died at his home. Born in Portsmouth, OH in 1843, he moved to IL in 1849. He married Mary Gra(o)ves in 1862. He later married Caroline Cutler. Company E 6th Reg MO Vol-Inf 99th IL Reg.

WEDDING. Died 26-1968. Clara Emma Wedding, 84 years, 8 months, 28 days, wife of James P Wedding of Fieldon, died Thursday at Boyd Memorial hospital, Carrollton. She had been a patient 12 days. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Leonard Todd, former minister of the United Church of Christ in Fieldon, officiating. Burial was in Fieldon Cemetery. She was a daughter of the late Mr & Mrs William Lawler and was a lifelong resident of Fieldon. Mrs Wedding was a teacher and Taught in the rural school system of Jersey Co. In Later years she was post mistress at Fieldon until her retirement. In Addition to her husband, she is survived by 1 niece, Mrs Rose Darr of Phoenix, AZ, and 2 nephews, James L Coombes of Jerseyville and William Coombes who is in Germany.

WEDDING. Died 09-1954. Clarence Wedding, 74, of Grafton, died in Alton Memorial hospital where he had been taken following a heart attack. Born in Jersey County, August 28,1880, he was a son of the late James P & Ellen (Green) Wedding. He was a member of Full Moon Lodge of the Masonic Order in Grafton. Surviving are 1 son, Nugent C Wedding, Urbana, who came to Alton after learning of his father’s illness; 3 brothers, Benjamin, Long Beach, CA, Richard – incomplete.

WEDDING. Died-12-1969. James Perry Wedding, 79, a retired farmer of Fieldon, was found dead in his car by the postman. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Leonard Todd officiated at the rites with burial in Fieldon Cemetery. Mr Wedding was found dead in his car Fri am by the postman. The WW I veteran was born October 25, 1890 in Jersey County the son of James & Ellen (Green) Wedding. Mr Wedding was a member of Fieldon Masonic Lodge. Surviving are 1 sister, Mrs Clark (Bess) Kaslick, Fieldon and 1 brother, Richard Wedding, Portland, OR. His wife, Clara (Lawler) Wedding preceded him in death. Masonic services were conducted at the funeral home.

WEDDING. Died 12-06-1968. Dr Lester P Wedding, 79 years, 9 months, 9 days, died June 12, in Hialeah, FL, where he had resided for the past several years. Funeral services were June 17, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev W Louis Purcell, pastor of United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. His wife, Mary (McClure) Wedding died in March, 1968. Dr Wedding was a son of the late Phil & Louisa (Harmon) Wedding and was born September 3, 1888. His only survivor is 1 daughter, Mrs Thelma Law of Miami, FL.

WEDDING. Died 07-03-1968. Mary Louise (McClure) Wedding, former Jerseyville resident, died in Hialeah, FL. Funeral services were held March 9, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Louis Purcell, pastor of First Methodist Church, officiated and burial was in Rosedale Cemetery. Surviving are her husband, Dr Lester Wedding, who was a dentist in Jerseyville for many years, and 1 step-dau, Mrs Thelma Law, Hialeah. The Weddings had lived in Florida for 32 years.

WEDDING. Died 11-12-1977. Richard Wedding of Portland, OR, former resident of Rosedale and Fieldon died December 11 at his home there. He was the last of the Wedding family. Mr & Mrs Wesley J Cunningham of Jerseyville were notified of his passing.

WEDDING. Died 12-1983. Thomas Laverne Wedding, 68, died at Illini Community hospital, Pittsfield. Born in Jerseyville, he was the son of the late Collie & Zoe (Belva) Wedding. Surviving are his wife, Lela (Smith) Wedding; 2 daughters, Kathleen Tjaden and Carla Derhake, both of Quincy; 1 son, Lyndle of Lima; 1 stepson, Larry Wilson, Liberty; 4 sisters, Belva Crane, Denver, Phyllis Przbylski, Cicero, Sarah Wade, Kissemee, FL, and Orpha Witt, Jerseyville; and 7 brothers, Quentin, Pottsborogh, TX, Clinton, Medora, Phillip and James, both of Godfrey, William of Dow, Eugene of Sentinel, OK, and Charles of Seattle, WA. Visitation was at Hanks Funeral Home in Pearl, where services were held with Rev Nelson Roth officiating. Burial was in Hess Cemetery.

WEDDING. Died 24-01-1978. Zoe Belva Wedding, 89, of Jerseyville, died January 24, at Jersey Community hospital. Her husband, Collie e Wedding, a former Jersey County Sheriff, died in 1959. She was born October 4, 1888 in Macoupin County, daughter of Manford & Sarah Louise (Rich) Gillespie. Funeral service was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Everett Chambers officiated. Burial was in Rosedale Cemetery. Surviving are 4 day, Mrs Belva Crain, Denver, CO, Mrs Phyllis Przybylski, Chicago, Mrs Orpha Witt, Jerseyville and Mrs Sarah Wade, Munster, IN; 8 sons, Charles, Seattle, WA, Eugene, Sentinal, OK, Thomas, Quincy, Clintin, Medora, Quintin, Potsboro, TX James and Phillip, Godfrey, and William of Dow; 41 grandchildren; 41 g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs Lois Blassie, Columbus, GA; and 1 brother, Lyman Gillispie, Rosewood Heights. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church.

WEEKS. Died-01-1978. Mary Isabelle Weeks, 91, died January 11 at Garnet’s Chateau Where she had resided for 4 years. Services were held January 11 at First Methodist church with Rev R E George officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. She was born August 1, 1883, a daughter of Robert & Nancy Ann (Smith) Murray. Surviving are 1 daughter, Mrs Earle (Leona) DeUel of Jerseyville; 2 sons, Robert Weeks, Bethalto and Jesse Weeks, of Mesa, AZ; 20 grandchildren; 34 g-grandchildren. Her husband, Thomas Marshall Weeks preceded her in death.

WEEKS. Died 01-01-1953. Virginia Weeks, 85 years, 9 months, 26 days, one of Jerseyville’s older residents, died January 1 at her home on W Pine, Jerseyville. She had been in failing health since last Sept, her condition had not become critical until a few days before her death. She was a daughter of the late Henry & Hettie (Rowden) Wade and was born in Jersey County March 5, 1867. Surviving are 3 daughters, Mrs Charles Breeden, Rolla, Missouri, Mrs Hettie Breitweiser, Jerseyville and Mrs Howard Mourning of Wood River; 1 grandson, David Mourning, Wood River, and 1 granddaughter, Mrs Earl J White Jr also of Wood River. Her Husband, Andrew J Weeks, and 1 son, William Weeks preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville on January 4. Rev LaVerne Poole, pastor of the Baptist Church officiated and interment was in Fieldon Cemetery.

WEEKS. Died 08-1950. Walter Weeks, an employee of American Smelting & Refining Company for 42 years, was found died by relatives at his home in Brighton. Inquest by Dept Coroner Leslie Jacoby, fount that death was from a heart attack. On Fri, Mr Weeks had taken his wife to Calhoun for a visit with relatives and was to return for her on Sun. When he did not return on Sunday, Mrs Weeks accompanied by her relatives went to the Weeks home where they found Mr Weeks dead in a chair with a newspaper in his hand. It is believed that he had the heart attack on Saturday after he returned from a trip to Brighton. Mr Weeks is survived by his wife, – incomplete.

WEHRLY. Died 13-02-1989. Elsie O Wehrly, 91, died February 13 at Sunset Retirement Home in Quincy. The retired teacher was born in Beemont, Missouri, daughter of the late Simon & Wilhelmina (Auf Der Heide) Ott. On April 7, 1920, in Beemont, she married Samuel Frederick Wehrly. He died June 14, 1973. Surviving are 2 daughters, Margaret Larson of Ocasla, FL, and Martha Pellikin, Grafton; 1 son, James S Wehrly of Macomb; 10 grandchildren; 9 g-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Arthur Ott, Springfield, VA. Preceding her in death were 2 grandchildren, 1 sister and 2 brothers. Visitation was from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at Kane United Methodist Church with Rev Mary Ann Vidakovich officiating. Burial was in Kane Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church where she had been a member.

WEHRLY. Died 25-11-1983. Olivia B Wehrly, 85, of St. Louis, Mo died November 25 at her residence. She was born June 22, 1898 in Lexington, Missouri. She was the daughter of the late William & Mary (Meyers) Bartels. She was a secretary and Co-owner of Mid-Continent Sales Inc, St. Louis. Surviving are 1 son, John H Wehrly Jr of St. Louis; 1 daughter, Marian Pregler, Kane; 2 brothers, William Bartels, Springhill, KS and Edwin Bartels, Topeka, KS; and 9 grandchildren. Services were held at Kane United Methodist Church with Rev Steve Perrin officiating. Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to Kane United Methodist Church or Union United Methodist Church, St. Louis.

WEIBLE. Died 06-1971. Cecil Weible, 45, of Perryville, Missouri, died unexpectedly at Perryville. Final services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev A J Maggos of Alton officiated and burial was in Fieldon Cemetery. He was born February 13, 1926 in Arkansas a son of Mr & Mrs James Weible. Surviving are his wife, Mrs Nina (Dunham) Weilble; 3 daughters, Mrs Alice Reed and Mrs Lindell Schaffer, of St. Louis, and Sarah of Perryville; 4 sons, Jerry Weible, St. Louis, Danny Weible, USN, and Cecil Weible Jr, Perryville; 4 grandchildren; 1 step daughter, Barbara Dunham, Jerseyville; 1 brother, Eugene Weible, Otterville and 1 sister, Mrs Mary Price of Altenburg, MO; 3 half-bros and 2 half sisters.

WEIGEL. Died 17-01-1987. Dorothy J Weigel, 71, of RR Jerseyville, died January 17, at Jersey Community hospital. She was born October 14, 1915 in Delhi to Elmer & Eunice (Long) Chappell. She married Robert Weigel on July 25, 1934, in Jerseyville. She was a member of Delhi Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband; 4 daughters, Wilma Calame, Alton, Barbara Meyer of Delhi, Judy Weigel, Jerseyville, and Marcella Marie Hornsey, Godfrey; 2 sons, Melvin, Wood River and Jerry of Godfrey; 16 grandchildren and 7 g-grandchildren. Services were January 20, at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Daniel Mead officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Delhi Baptist Church.

WEIGEL. Died 15-08-1926. Jacob R Weigel, 48, died at his home in Deer Plain on August 15. He had a severe case of the measles. The brother of Mrs A L Wieghand of Jerseyville is also survived by his wife and 11 children. Funeral at graveside in Crisswell Cemetery.

WEIGEL. Died 28-10-1989. Joyce Weigel, 21, died October 28, 1989, at St. John Mercy Medical Center, St. Louis. Born in Alton, she is survived by her mother, Judy A Weigel, Delhi; and 1 brother, Kenneth Weigel of Florida. Visitation and services were from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Paul N Snow officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

WEIGEL. Died 05-08-1988. Melvin M Weigel, 49, of Wood River, died August 5 at St. Joseph hospital, Alton. He had been ill for some time. Born in Jerseyville, he was the son of Robert Weigel, Wood River and the late Dorothy (Chappell) Weigel. He was a truck driver for 10 years with Trans-Petro, Inc, of Wood River. On June 23, 1961, he married the former Ellen Sue (LaHue) Weigel in Baumholder, Germany, and she survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Natalie Fife, E Alton, and Teresa Weigel of Sturgeon, MO; 3 sons, Robert “Bill” Weigel, Pasa Robles, CA, Gary Weigel, Wood River, and Henry Weigel, Columbia, MO; 2 grandchildren; 4 sisters, Wilma Calame, Alton, Barbara Meyers, Delhi, Judith Weigel, Jerseyville and Marcella Hornsey, Godfrey and 1 brother, Jerry Weigel, Godfrey. Visitation was at Gray Funeral Home, Wood River, where services were held with Rev John Ailworth officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to charity of one’s choice.

WEIGEL. Died 06-12-1988. Robert “Bob” Weigel, 78, died December 6, 1988 at Jersey Community hospital, after a lengthy illness. He was a carpenter with Shell Oil Company of Wood River for 28 years, retiring in 1970. Born in Deer Plain, a son of the late Jacob & Kathryn (Ninteman) Weigel. On July 25, 1934, he married Dorothy (Chappell) Weigel in Jerseyville. She died January 17, 1987. Surviving are 4 daughters, Wilma Calame, Alton, Barbara Meyer, Delhi, Judy Weigel, Jerseyville and Marcella Marie Hornsey, Godfrey; 1 son, Jerry Weigel, Godfrey; 17 grandchildren; 8 g-grandchildren; 2 bros, Arthur Weigel of Livermore, CA, and Fred Weigel of Alton; 5 sisters, Emma Willman, Wood River, Edna LaMarsh, Brussells, Alma Miller, Edwardsville, Dorothy Koch, Wood River and Louella Cilli of Monaca, PA. He was preceded in death by 1 son, Melvin Weigel; and 2 bros, Henry and William Weigel. Visitation and services were from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Clyde Myers officiated and burial was in Oak Grove. Memorials may be given to Delhi Baptist Church where he had been a member.

WEIGHARD. Died 18-01-1895. George J Weighard, a one time Jerseyville business man and many years a citizen of this town, died at his home on January 18, 1895. Funeral at German Evan Church with Rev A Ballhorn officiating. Burial in Bellefontaine Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.

WEIL. Died 15-11-1977Antonie Weil, 88, of the Chicago area, died November 15 at Jersey Community hospital. She was born in Hamburg, Germany December 20, 1889, a daughter of Frederick W & Elisabeth Redmann and was the widow of Ernest Weil. Graveside services were held at Rosedale Cemetery, November 17. Surviving are 2 sisters, Helen Hinrichsen, South Bend, IN and Alma Redmann, Hamburg, Germany; 1 brother William Redmann, Chicago; nieces and nephew including Mrs Donald (Helen) Spencer, Grafton and Henry Hinrichsen, Monroe, WI. Memorials may be given to Jersey Community hospital.

WEINER. Died 04-09-1954. Ernest Weiner, 86, who had been in ill health for some time, died September 4 at Waters Nursing Home, Jerseyville. Funeral rites were held at Hanks Funeral Home, Hardin on September 7. Burial was in Hardin Cemetery. He was a son of the late Henry & Elizabeth Weiner and was born in Germany, December 13, 1867. He came to the US at the age of 14 and settled in Calhoun County where he had spent most of his life. For the past 12 years he had been a resident of Jerseyville. Surviving are 6 daughters, Mrs Anna Foiles, Jerseyville, Mrs Elizabeth Slinker and Mrs Mae Klinefelter of Marshalltown, IA, Mrs Ella Lynch, Beaman, IA, Mrs Ethel Smith, Meredosia, and Mrs Dorothy Vetter, Brighton; 3 sons, William and Paul Weiner, Jerseyville and Ernest Weiner Jr, Brighton; and 1 sister, Mrs Barbara Brodbeck, 92 year old resident of Batchtown. His wife died 6 years ago.

WEINER. Died 30-11-1986. Paul Weiner Sr, 87, died November 30, 1986 at Jersey Community hospital. Weiner retired from farming about 15 years ago, and was born in Batchtown, son of the late Ernest & Anna (Booheister) Weiner. He married Pauline (Funk) Weiner on April 19, 1926, in St. Charles, Mo and she survives. Also surviving are; 2 sons, Paul Weiner Jr and Keith Weiner, both of Jerseyville; 1 daughter, Judy Holder of Jerseyville; 14 grandchildren; 13 g-grandchildren; 2 bros, William Weiner, Jerseyville and Ernest “Doc” Weiner, Brighton; and 4 sisters, Dorothy Vetter, Brighton, Anna Foiles, Jerseyville, Ethel Smith, Meredosia and Ella Lynch, Conrad, IA. Visitation and Services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Charles Reiser officiated and Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. Memorials may be given to Illinois Crippled Children’s Fund.

WEINER. Pauline Weiner. – incomplete – school teacher in Calhoun Co. She is survived by 1 daughter, Judith Holder, Jerseyville and 2 sons, Paul H “Corky” Weiner Jr and Keith A Weiner both of Jerseyville; 14 grandchildren; 15g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Elizabeth Gillespie, Grafton; and 2 brothers, Murl Funk, Glen Carbon and John Funk, Hardin. Funeral services were held February 21 at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Dan Harry of United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. Memorials may be given to Illinois Crippled Children.

WEIR. Died 27-03-1975. Florence Weir, 65, died March 27, at Passavant hospital, Jacksonville. Mrs Weir, former Jerseyville resident, a retired state employee, and had resided in Jacksonville for 10 years. She was born December 3, 1909 in MO, the daughter of William & Pearl Effie (Bailey) Heath. Surviving are 1 daughter, Mrs Marilyn Rogers, Sunnyville, CA; 2 sisters, Mrs Mildred Hughes, Alton and Mrs Levi (Ethyl) Little, Jerseyville; 5 grandchildren; 1 g-grandchild. Final rites were held March 29, from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev R E George officiating and interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

WEISER. Died 24-03-1907. Lena Weiser, 53, died March 24, 1907. She was born Lena Buehler, at Neudorf Filrstenthum Renoz, Germany, on November 29, 1853. She came with her stepfather (J G Oertel) and mother to the US in May 1870. In 1872 she married Franz Louis Weiser, a nephew of Mr Oertel. They purchased a farm near Delhi. Mr Weiser died May 10, 1891. They were parents of 9 children, 2 having died in infancy. Surviving are 5 daughters, Mrs Wm Dependahl, Mrs Wm Oehler, Misses Nora and Olga, of Jerseyville and Mrs John Depehdahl of Fosterberg; 2 bros, Arnold and Hugo of Jerseyville; 1 brother, Herman Oertel, Burlington, IA; 1 sister, residing in Germany; 1 niece, Mrs Hulda Dependahl, Jersey twsp. Messrs Otto and Herman Kuehnel of Jerseyville, Mrs Julius Roettgers and Paul Kuehnel of Alton and Mrs Louis Hueneger of Greer County, OK, all cousins of the deceased. Funeral by Rev E P Richter from Brighton Evangelical Church officiated. Burial was in Brighton City Cemetery. Members of Frauenverein attended in a body. Pallbearers: W H Bartlett, Herman Scheffel, Charles Siller, Henry Bauer, August Schneider and Wm Gesiler.

WEISHAPL. Delores L Weishapl, 51, of San Antonio, TX, formerly of Alton, died at St. Joseph hospital, Alton. she was born in Grafton, a daughter of Ross & Marie (Crawford) DeSherlia of Grafton. In 1951, she married John Berigan, who died in June 1980. She then married Elmer J Weishapl, August 8, 1982, in San Antonio, and he survives. Also surviving are her parents; 3 sons, Michael Berigan, FL, Tim Berigan, E Alton and Patrick Berigan, Wood River; 2 stepsons, Eric Jay Weishapl and Frank Joey Weishapl, both of San Antonio, TX; 2 daughters, Katie Berigan, Edwardsville and Mary Steehlinger, Godfrey; 1 step daughter, Lisa Ann Yeomans, Sanford, FL; 4 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 2 brothers, Paul DeSherlia, FL and Claude DeSherlia of Fieldon; and 2 sisters, Peg Burns and Joyce Fenger, both of Grafton. Visitation and rosary were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton. Funeral Mass was Celebrated at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Grafton with Rev Patrick Carroll Celebrant. Burial was in St. Patrick Cemetery, Godfrey.

WHARTON. Mrs. Jane Wharton died at her home in Whitehall, Ill., July 25th, after a weeks illness. Her maiden name was Jane McLee and she was born in Philadelphia June 11th, 1815. In February, 1841 she was married to her now bereaved husband, George Wharton, and moved to Jerseyville in March of the same year, where they have since resided until January 1874, when they moved to Whitehall. Several children were born to them, three of whom are living, Mrs. Anna Locke of Jerseyville, Wesley Wharton of Little Rock, and Robert Wharton of Alton. Her remains were brought to Jerseyville for interment.

WHEATON. Mrs. William Wheaton Of Fieldon Dies. Mrs. Christine Wheaton, wife of William Wheaton of Fieldon, died Saturday afternoon, May 25, at two-thirty oclock at her home following an extended period of ill health. The deceased was the daughter of the late John Pieper and Mrs. Josephine Kanallakan Pieper of Jerseyville, and was born in Jersey County, May 16, 1892. Her age at the time of her death was fifty-four years and nine days. Jersey County Democrat-News, May 31, 1946.

WHITE. Civil War Veteran Answered Final Call Thursday Afternoon. Funeral Services Were Conducted Monday from the Presbyterian Church. John I. White, veteran of the Civil War, answered the final summons at his residence on West Pearl street Thursday afternoon and joined the marching hosts of the army eternal. At the time of his death he was 89 years, 10 months and 10 days of age.
The deceased was a native of Illinois. He was born January 31st, 1835, at Greenville, being the son of James and Mary White, pioneer emigrants who came to Illinois from North Carolina in 1816. When he was fifteen years of age his mother died. Mr. White obtained his education at Greenville, graduating from Greenville academy in 1854. Following his graduation he taught school and came to Jersey county where he began teaching school in this county in 1855. On the 12th of August, 1862, he enlisted in Company C of the 124th Infantry. Following a year of the rigorous army life his health became so badly impaired that he was honorably discharged from the service and returned to his home.
September 29th, 1864, Mr. White was united in marriage with Miss Sarah J. SMITH, daughter of Eleazer M. and Susan Smith, pioneer residents of Jersey county. Following their marriage the couple resided on a farm northeast of Jerseyville for many years. To the mentioned union two sons were born, Judge Charles S. White, former county judge of Jersey county, and City Commissioner J. Irving White, who is cashier of the Jersey State Bank. Mrs. White’s death occurred in 1908. Following her passing, Mr. White gave up farming and came to Jerseyville where he made his home with his son, Judge Charles S. White. Six years ago he went to live with his other son, J. Irving White, and has made his home with the latter since that time until the day of his death. In addition to his two sons, the deceased is survived by four grandchildren, John, Richard, Charles and Mary Johanna White, the children of J. Irving and Florence Lowe White.

Funeral services were conducted from the Presbyterian church in Jerseyville Monday afternoon at two-thirty o’clock, Rev. Harrold S. Farrill officiating.
Aside from chronicling the various facts in the life of John White, it is fitting at this time to pay a brief tribute to his memory as a man. John I. White was a man’s man. He was one of those strong characters the outgrowth of sturdy pioneer stock that have made America great. It has been the privilege of the writer to talk with elderly citizens of Jerseyville who knew John I. White in his younger days. He was the same man then as in later life, clean minded, with firm convictions regarding right and daring to stand publicy for his convictions. Another great quality he possessed was that of kindness and this quality has ever been apparent in his life. He was a great lover of nature and admired a mighty tree with the keen inward understanding that the true nature lover possesses. Like a mighty tree himself, old in years, but still vernal in mentality he went down before the last great storm of life and like the tree that is removed from the landscape the passing of John I. WHITED. Died 15-04-1988. Freeda F Whited, 78, of Jerseyville, died April 15, 1988 at Greenwood Manor. She was born in Calhoun County to the late Thomas & Leeta (Ottwell) Gourley. She married Roy Whited on October 10, 1928, in Edwardsville. He died November 25, 1984. She was a member of Kemper Baptist Church, Medora. Surviving are 2 daughters, Phyllis Berttell, Brighton and Evelyn Wordley, Godfrey; 1 son, Glenn Whited, Carrollton; 1 sister, Veeda George, White Hall; 3 bros, Chester Gourley, Carrollton and Lloyd and Leland Gourley, both of Winchester; 11 grandchildren; and 10 g-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sister Mary Norton and 2 brothers Arnold and Everrett Gourley. Visitation and funeral were at Targhetta Funeral Home in Medora. Rev George F Humbert Jr officiated and burial was in Medora Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Kemper Baptist Church.

WHITEHEAD. Died 18-04-1960. Brian Eric Whitehead, 5 days, son of Edward l & Arbedella (Kallal) Whitehead, died at St. Joseph hospital, Alton, where he had been transferred the day following his birth at Jersey Community hospital. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Harold Lane, pastor of first Baptist Church, officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Surviving in addition to his parents are 1 sister, Laura Ellen Whiteherad; maternal grandparents, Mr & Mrs Sylvester Kallal, Jerseyville; and his g-grandmothers, Mrs Frank Kallal, Jerseyville and Mrs Wm Abeln, Carrollton.

WHITEHEAD. David D Whitehead, 16, of Gillette, WY, died November 28, 1987, in a one vehicle accident north of Gillette. He was born in Jerseyville son of David R & Donna L (Fuller) Whitehead of Gillette, formerly of Fieldon. He was a junior at Campbell County High School in Gillette and previously had attended Fieldon Elementary School. In addition to his parents, surviving are 1 sister, Tiffany Whitehead at home; his paternal grandmother, Darlene Whitehead, Jerseyville; maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Erma & Raymond Evans, Kampsville. The rosary and wake service were held at Noecker Funeral Home, in Gillette. the Mass was celebrated at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Gillette with Rev Pat Shea as celebrant. Burial was in Mt Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette. Memorials may be given to Catholic Youth Organization.

WHITEHEAD. Died 27-01-1974. James Ray Whitehead, 58, of Fieldon, died January 27. Funeral services were held January 29, at First Baptist Church, Fieldon. Rev Francis Varble officiated, burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation and Masonic service were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. He was a maintenance millwright at Olin IL, born April 10, 1915 in Bowling Green, KY, a son of Steven & Ora Belle (Flowers) Whitehead. Mr Whitehead was a special deputy sheriff and member of the Aux Police, Fieldon Board of Trustees, and Fieldon Lodge, AF&AM. Surviving are his widow Darlene (Lenington) Whitehead; 2 daughters, Mrs Hugh (Carole) Gettings, Fieldon and Mrs John (Joy) Dunham, Jerseyville; 2 sons, James F Whitehead, Fieldon and David R Whitehead, Dow; 8 grandchildren; and 1 g-grandson.

WHITEHEAD. Died 1894. Margaret Vandrevoort, born in Lamington, Somerset County, NJ, in 1810. She married Robert Whitehead, January 19, 1831. They moved to Jerseyville in 1837 and joined the Presbyterian Church in 1839. Surviving are 3 sons, Cornelius, Robert and Ellis; 4 daughters, Mrs J C Darby, Mrs T T Alexander, Mrs G W Dugan, and Mrs J R Loan; 19 grandchildren; and 9 g-grandchildren. Her husband and 2 children preceded her in death. She was always patient, loving and kind.

WHITEHEAD. Died 26-10-1922. Robert Whitehead, 74, died at his home on Washington St, Jerseyville. He was one of the best known business men of Jerseyville. The date of his death marked 3 memorable dates in his life. He was born October 26, 1848, and married on October 26, 1877, and entered his eternal rest on October 26, 1922. He was one of 7 children and was born in Jersey County the son of Robert & Margaret (Vandervoort) Whitehead, pioneer residents of this co. He married Flora (Pritchett) Whitehead. Surviving are his wife, Flora Whitehead; 3 daughters, Mrs A M Wiles and Mrs C G Reddish, of Jerseyville and Mrs Ralph Shartle, St. Louis; 1 son, Warren whitehead of Houston, TX; and 9 grandchildren. His family was with him when he passed away. He was a member of First Presbyterian church, Jerseyville. He was one of the oldest merchants of Jerseyville, having been in the merchandising business for more than half a century. For a number of years, he was in the dry goods business with his uncle, Benjamin C Vandervoort, after whose death Mr Whitehead assumed control of the store. Later he was in business with Frank Edgar. After disposing of that business He went into the clothing business and for several years he was associated with Leon Engel, and later with Frank E Stelle, remaining there until his health failed. Funeral services were held October 29, from the Presbyterian church. Rev Harrold S Farrill officiated and interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

WHITEHEAD. Died 03-01-1957. Warren R Whitehead, 66 years, 6 months, 23 days, died January 3, at Methodist hospital, Houston, TX. Mr Whitehead was a brother of Mrs C G Reddish and Mrs A M Wiles, Jerseyville and Mrs Ralph W Shartle, St. Louis. He was a son of the late Robert & Flora (Pritchett) Whitehead and was born in Jerseyville, June 10, 1890. The WW I Veteran had in recent years been affiliated with the hotel business and at the time of his death was assistant manager of the Ben Milam Hotel, Houston. He was a former newspaper reporter and had worked for the Houston Post. Mrs Reddish had journeyed to Houston recently to be with her brother during his illness. Funeral rites were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev M Edwards Breed, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiated and interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

WHITENACK. Harried Whitenack, died at her home on June 18, 1926. She was a life long resident of Jerseyville and was daughter of the late Jacob & Linda (Fox) Whitenack. She leaves 4 sisters, Annie of Alton, Mrs George DeBolt, Carrollton, Mrs Barclay Wedding and Miss Adeline, Jerseyville; 2 brothers, Harry Whitenack, Jerseyville and Matthew Whitenack, Shoshone, ID. Funeral was from her home with Rev Harrold Farrill officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

WHITENACK. Died 15-04-1907. Linda Myra Whitenack, 75, one of the city’s oldest residents, was the last of 7 children. She was born in Hunderon County, NJ. In 1849, she married Jacob Witenack. They lived in Fox Hill and Somerville NJ. Came to IL in 1852. They were parents of 11 children. Surviving are Maggie DeBolt, Carrollton, Misses Helen & Hattie, Addie & Annie, Mrs Barclay Wedding; bros, Harry of SD and Matthew. Funeral from Presbyterian Church, burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.

WHITENACK. Died 14-01-1908. Maggie Whitenack, 45, died January 14, 1908 in Summerville, NJ. John W Lowe and Mrs Perry Pritchett were called to Summerville by her death.

WHITESIDE. Nellie Whiteside, formerly of Jerseyville, died recently in Los Angeles, CA. Word was received here this week by Mrs Marcus Ryan and Miss Edna Curtiss of the died of their cousin, Mrs Thomas (Nellie) Whiteside. She was the former Nellie Dodson, daughter of the late Mr & Mrs Frank Dodson of Jerseyville. She was born and reared in this city and was a graduate of Jerseyville High School. After her graduation she taught in the schools of Jersey County before moving to St. Louis. In later years she had resided in Los Angeles. Her husband preceded her in death. Surviving are her twin sister, Mrs Walter (Nettie) Hanchett of Overland, MO; and 1 brother, Mark Dodson of St. Louis. At the request of the deceased the body was cremated and the ashes returned to St. Louis for burial.

WHITFIELD. Fred Whitfield, 40, died at his home in Havana, IL of pneumonia. His body was brought to Grafton to the home of Mrs E P Edsall, a sister. Born and reared in Grafton. He leaves his mother, Mrs Rose Whitfield; wife, Susie; 3 daus; 1 son; 2 sisters, Mrs Edsall and Mrs Anna Simpson, Grafton; 2 bros, John Whitfield, Jerseyville and Charles Whitfield, Havana, IL. Funeral was officiated by Rev W Rheinof M E Church. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery.

WHITLEY. Dr Langley A Whitley, former Jerseyville resident, having resided on the F W Baptist farm south of Jerseyville, succumbed to cancer of the stomach in a sanitarium at Rochester, MN. He is survived by his wife; 2 sisters, and 4 brothers. He was very much liked by the people of Jerseyville during his residence.

WHITLOCK. Died 16-08-1989. Beverly “Junior” Whitlock, 68, died August 16, 1989. Services were at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville where Masonic services were held by Masonic Lodge 1062 of Wood River. Rev Jamie Hudson officiated at final rites and burial was in Maple Lawn Cemetery outside of Fidelity.

WHITLOCK. Died 01-1985. Beverly Singleton Whitlock, 97, died at Jerseyville Care Center. He was a farmer, born in Jersey County, son of the late Charles & Helen (Stewart) Whitlock. He married the former Oma Katherine (Stearns) Whitlock. She died in 1955. Surviving are 3 sons, Jim of Englewood, FL, Junior of Godfrey and Dean of E Alton; 8 grandchildren; 17 g-grandchildren; 8 g-g-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Leady Marshall, Jerseyville and Opal Pruitt, Medora. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held there with Rev William Hembrow officiating. Burial was in Jalapa Cemetery. Memorials may be given to charity of one’s choice.

WHITLOCK. Died 09-12-1947. Calvin D Whitlock, 50, a farmer of the Panhandle vicinity, died on his 50th birthday anniversary, December 9. He had been ill for several months.

WHITLOCK. Emma Whitlock, 78, died May 12, 1991 at Jersey Community hospital. She had been a checker for Tri-City Grocery Store, Jerseyville. Born in Fidelity Township on June 1, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Samuel & Jessie (Watson) Freeman. On January 3, 1929, in Carrollton, she married Arnold Whitlock. He died on April 2, 1960. Two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death and her only survivors are nieces and nephews. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held there and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Arthritis Foundation.

WHITLOCK. Died 05-02-1992. George Andrew Whitlock, 80, died February 5, 1992, at his home. He worked at International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville for 32 years and was a dispatcher at McConnell Douglas Corp in St. Louis 18 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of Jerseyville Loyal Order of the Moose. Born in Greene County on February 29, 1911, he was a son of the late Jesse & Rosa (Cheeks) Whitlock. Surviving are his wife, Pauline (Hetzel) Whitlock, whom he married March 25, 1944, in Jerseyville; 1 son Jerry Lee Whitlock of Grafton; and 2 grandchildren. One sister and 4 brothers preceded him in death. Visitation was from Jacoby-Shcroeder Funeral Home, Jerseyville. Final rites were conducted at First Assembly of God Church, Jerseyville. Rev Larry Hayes officiated and Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church.

WHITLOCK. Died 24-12-1976. George Dewey Whitlock, 78, retired farmer of Bunker Hill and a native of Kane, died December 24 at St. Joseph hospital, Highland. Final rites were held at Jacoby-Wise Funeral Home in Bunker Hill with Rev Howard Whittaker officiating. Burial was in Bunker Hill Cemetery. He was born August 28, 1898 in Kane, a son of George & Ada (Reno) Whitlock. Surviving are his widow, Margaret (Leasenfelt) Whitlock; 2 daughters, Mrs William (Betty) Menchak of Marion and Mrs Mary Jones of Gillespie; 1 son, – incomplete.

WHITLOCK. Died 20-02-1952. Ida Elizabeth Whitlock, 76 years 6 months, 11 days, died February 29, at Watson Nursing Home where she had been a patient for several months. She was a daughter of the late Marion & Alvira (Burch) Whitlock and was born in Rockbridge, August 9, 1875. Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs Lester Huff, Rockbridge and Mrs Harry Eastham, Jerseyville; 16 grandchildren; 12 g-grandchildren; 2 bros, Walter Whitlock, Bethalto and Perry Whitlock, Jerseyville; and 1 sister, Mrs Len Houdasholt, Walnut, KS. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville where services were held. Rev LaVerne Poole officiated. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

WHITLOCK. Died 1968. Mrs Juanita Whitlock, 73, a resident of Jerseyville, was killed in an accident involving a truck-semi and an automobile in the Dow area on Saturday afternoon. Mrs Whitlock was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Joseph hospital, Alton and her passenger, Mrs Cordia Prough died at the hospital that night. Mrs Prough, who had been living with her daughter, Mrs Clifford (Freda) Greene in Wood River, had been visiting at the Whitlock home. They were coming back from Dow where they had taken another lady home. The fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Dow Rd and Rt 109. The empty truck, owned by Richard Hansen of Jerseyville and driven by his 17 year old son, Bruce R, was traveling N on RT 109. Young Hansen told the investigating officer, Cpl Frances Neubauer, as he neared the intersection of the roads, he observed the Whitlock vehicle traveling east on the Dow road, and the driver after making a stop made a left hand turn onto 109. Hansen said he applied his brakes but he was so close to the intersection he was unable to avoid the accident. Services were held for Mrs Whitlock at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Carlton G Christenson, pastor of First Baptist Church, Jerseyville, where she was a member. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Mrs Whitlock was a daughter of the late M J & Elnora (Prough) Ritchey, was born in Jersey County, on February 3, 1895. She was a resident of the Panhandle vicinity for many years before moving to Jerseyville. She was a charter member of the Jersey County Home Bureau and was affiliated with the Panhandle Unit of Jersey County Homemakers Ext Assoc. Her only immediate survivor is 1 son, Calvin Whitlock, Jr, of Jerseyville. Her parents, her husband, Calvin Sr., and 2 bros, Orleigh and – incomplete.

WHITLOCK. Died 1921. Roy Wilson Whitlock, 7 years, 3 months, 18 days, died Saturday am. The child was injured last Sunday and had been bleeding since then, according to the testimony at the inquest conducted by Dr B M Brewster, Coroner. He was playing with the other children in the family, throwing a hammer. George, their 15 year old brother, threw the hammer into a tree to get it out of reach of the younger children. The hammer lodged on a limb 10 ft above the ground. Roy wanted the hammer, so Mrs Whitlock told the older boy to get it out of the tree. George then climbed up on a chicken house near the tree to get the hammer and while he was endeavoring to get it, the hammer became dislodged and fell, striking Roy on the head, its claws cutting 2 gashes on the top of his head. Jesse Whitlock, the father of the child dressed his wounds, so the mother testified today. She was ill in bed and unable to care for him. The father is a farm hand employed near Kane and went back to his work the first of the week. The mother being ill, the other children took care of the injured boy as best they could, and the mother, it seems, did not know how serious his condition was. The child bled constantly from the wounds, and Tuesday was so ill and weak he went to bed. He kept growing weaker and paler and could no food or water on his stomach. He passed away on Saturday at 1 am. Coroner Brewster informs us that in his opinion, the child’s life might have been saved had the severed blood vessel in his head been pinched together or tried to stop the bleeding. The child probably was a “bleeder”, as his mother stated in testimony that he always bled profusely from a cut and it wasalways difficult to stop the bleeding. No arrangements for the funeral have been made yet, and will not be until after the father, who is working in Greene County, is reached. Hugh Whitlow was foreman of the Coroner’s jury, other members were Perry Shaw, Jos. Gunterman, Robert Patton, F O Brown and John W Rives. Mrs Whitlock told the coroner and the jury that after the child’s injury, 2 Jerseyville physicians were at the house to see her, and that she told them the boy had been injured, they looked at him, stated he needed attention, but beyond their statement did nothing for him, since they were not assured of their fees. Mrs Whitlock told them she had no money in the house and could not guarantee payment as her husband had been out of work. Neighbors say that Mrs Whitlock herself is in a serious condition.

WHITLOCK. Died 11-01-1988. Ruth Whitlock, 90, died January 11, 1988 at Greenwood Manor, Jerseyville. She was born in Greene County, daughter of the late Samuel James Monroe & Sarah M (Grizzle) Cunningham. On December 9, 1914, she married Lloyd W Whitlock, and he died September 24, 1974. Surviving are 1 son, Milford Whitlock, Jerseyville; 11 grandchildren; 9 g-grandchildren; and 1 g-g-grandchild. She was preceded in death by 1 son, Owen Whitlock; and 2 bros, Lloyd and Levis Cunningham. Visitation and services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Earl D Clagg officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Bethel Baptist Church, where she had been a member.

WHITLOCK. Died 03-02-1984. Walter “Chuck” Whitlock, 79, of Jerseyville, died February 3, at Jersey Community hospital. He was born April 2, 1904 in Jersey County, son of Jesse & Rose (Cheek) Whitlock and retired in 1966 as a self employed carpenter. He leaves 1 brother, George Whitlock of Jerseyville, nieces and nephews. His parents and 1 brother preceded him in death. Services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. He was born in Jersey County on February 7, 1887, a son of Hugh & Zella (Cope) Whitlow and was a retired painter. He lived in Jerseyville until 1 year ago. Surviving are 1 daughter, Mrs Carl (Zella) Seago, Phoenix, AZ; 1 grandchild and 2 g-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Whitlow, who died in 1964, his first wife, the former Irene Belt, and 1 daughter. Services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial was in Oak Grove.

WHITNEY. Died 26-03-1951. Clara Whitney, 73 years, died March 26 at the home of her sister, Mrs H G Bertran, Granite City. Mrs Whitney had spent the early years of her life in Jersey Co. She was one of 8 children born to the late William H & Cornelia Barton of Otterville. She affiliated with Jerseyville Baptist church at the age of 20. Mrs Whitney, widow of Zeno W Whitney, resided in New York City for almost 30 years, retuning to Illinois in 1943 to make her home. The decedent is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs Bertran and Mrs Guy Thompson, Sabula, MO, and 1 brother, William H Barton, Brighton.

WHITTICO. Died 26-07-1959. Glendola Whittico, 72, died Juny 26, 1959. She was born in Rockbridge on October 13, 1886. Burial was in Oak Grove.

WHITTLEMAN. Died 26-12-1984. Marilla J Whittleman, 66, of Alton, died Mon at Alton Memorial hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Jersey County, daughter of the late Lloyd & Rose (Tucker) Perdun, she married Lester L Whittleman and he survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Rosemary Heininger, council Bluffs, IA; 1 son, Edward Leon Sr, Jerseyville; 6 grandchildren; 1 g-grandchild; 3 sisters, Irene McKenna, Jerseyville, Helen Arnold of Mesa, AZ, and Josephine Crabtree, Jerseyville; 3 bros, Howard “Dick” Perdun, William and Joe Perdun, all of Jerseyville. Visitation and service were conducted at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev David Cauley conducted the service and interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. WHITLOCK. Frances C Whitlock, 83, died February 23, 1989, at Reisch Memorial Nursing Home, Carrollton. Born in Spanky, she was the daughter of the late John & Catherine (Bru??) Goeddey. On June 24, 1935, she married Edwin B Whitlock, in Carrollton. He died October 9, 1987. Surviving are 1 daughter, Mary Helen Isringhausen, Carrollton; 3 grandchildren; 3 g-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Helena Goeddey of Carrollton and Anne Meade of Palmyra, Mo; and 1 brother, Joe Goeddey, Carrollton. Preceding her in death were 1 sister, Mary Schnelt; 3 bros, John, George and Henry Goeddey; and an infant son, Henry Whitlock. Visitation was from Airsman-Hires funeral home, Carrollton, with rosary that evening. Funeral Mass was at St. John Catholic Church, Carrollton with Rev Joseph O’Reily as celebrant. Burial was in St. John Cemetery. Memorials may be given to church renovation fund.

WHYTE. Died 21-04-1987. Edgar L Whyte, 79 formerly of this vicinity, died at his home in Venice, FL. Whtye was a letter carrier for the US Post Office in Alton for 35 years. After his retirement, he worded with Pride Inc, and was an attendance officer in the Alton School system for several years. Born in Dow, son of the late Samuel & Lucy (Fessler) Whyte, he married Dellamay (Hannon) Whyte on February 19, 1935. She preceded him in death. On December 5, 1952, he married the former Devota “Dee” Oden, who survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Judith G Cooper of Floriassant, MO; 2 grandchildren; and 1 brother, Russell Whyte, Godfrey. A WW II US Navy veteran, he was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Frances Whyte; and 1 brother, Stewart Whyte. The memorial service was held May 16, at Vaughn Hill Church of Christ in Wood River where he was a former member and elder. Interment was in Valhalla Memorial Park. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Soc, Vaughn Hill Church of Christ or Godfrey Church of Christ.

WHYTE. Died 1914. Mrs Elizabeth Whyte, 75, died at the home of her sister, Mrs Sarah Boedy, near Dow. Surviving are 2 sons, Frank Whyte, Alton and Samuel Whyte of Dow. Funeral at Newbern C P Church, burial at Newbern Cemetery.

WHYTE. BORN 05-1909. Hilda, daughter of Mr & Mrs Frank Whyte, of E Newbern, died at the home of her grandparents. She was 3 months old. Burial at E Newbern.

WHITE. Died 02-1975. Lucy B White, 88, a resident of Greenwood Manor since May, was the daughter of Mr & Mrs Michael Fessler. She was born at Dow on August 23, 1886. The funeral was held on February 18, at Gent Funeral Home, Alton. Les Johnson & Phil Powers officiated and burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park. Her husband Samuel M Whyte, died August 25, 1945. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Godfrey. Surviving are 2 sons, Russell Whyte, Godfrey (with whom she resided) and Edgar Whyte, Alton; 5 grandchildren; 6 g-grandchildren; 1 brother, Joe Fessler, Dow; 1 sister, Mrs Bertha Boedy, Godfrey. One son and 1 daughter preceded her in death.

WHYTE. Died 1915. Mae Whyte, wife of Frank Whyte, formerly of E Newbern, now of Alton, died there recently. She was a daughter of Mr & Mrs Frank Reid. Besides her parents and husband, she leaves 2 small children, 3 sisters, and 1 brother, all residents of Alton plus a host of friends and acquaintances both of Alton & Dow have the sympathy of all the vicinity. Mrs. Mary E. WHYTE, widow of the late Deacon R. WHYTE, died last Tuesday, of congestion of the lungs. Her funeral takes place to-day from the Baptist church at 10:30 a. m.

WHYTE. Died 08-05-1921. Sarah Mariah Whyte, 75, daughter of John & Jane Christopher, was born near Jerseyville, May 4, 1846, and died at her home, at 207 N Giddings on May 8, 1921. She was united in marriage to Henry Whyte May 3, 1866, and to this union was born 1 son, Charles A Whyte, Okmulgee, OK. She was the youngest of 6 sisters in a family of 6 boys and 6 girls. There are now living only 2 brothers, Adam Christopher, Jerseyville, who had made his home with her since the death of her husband, January 24, 1917 and Edward Christopher, Phoenix, AZ. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church under the pastorate of Fred L Thompson, and remained a faithful member until death. Her son Charles, his wife and 1 granddaughter, Mrs Geraldine Witt, and her 2 brothers are among the host of other relatives and friends surviving her.

WHYTE. Died 18-1971. Stewart A Whyte, 52, of Godfrey, formerly of Dow, died Thursday at Barnes hospital, St. Louis after undergoing open heart surgery. Funeral services were held at Gent Chapel, Alton, with burial in Valhalla Memorial Park. He was born in Dow, November 28, 1918, the son of Mrs Luchy Whyte of Alton and – Incomplete.

WHYTE. Died 1916. William Henry Whyte was born in New York City, NY on January 23, 1844. The family came to IL in 1850 and settled on a farm in Jersey County where William grew to manhood. On May 3, 1866, he married Sara M Christopher, also of Jersey Co. The farmed for a number of years and then moved to the city. He was united with the Baptist church until Rev Thompson’s pastorate, when he united with the Methodist church. He leaves his wife and 1 son, Charles Whyte of Okmulgee, OK, formerly of Jerseyville; and 1 sister, Mrs Jane Sundreland, Litchfield.

WILCOX. BORN 02-06-1883. Died 02-1905. Melvin Walter Wilcox, 21, died at his home in Jerseyville. He was the only son of Mr & Mrs W C Wilcox. Funeral by Rev W W Hicks. Baptist Church.

WIDMAN. Died 23-02-1977. Fred Widman Sr, 80, of Godfrey, died February 23 at Jersey Community hospital. He was a retired carpenter from Alton Box Board Company and was a WW I Veteran. He was born on September 15, 1896 in Jersey County, a son of Gottlob & Emily (Ferenbach) Widman. Surviving are his widow, Edna (Bergenzer) Widman; 2 sons, Fred Widman JR, Godfrey and Ray Widman, Belleville; 8 grandchildren; 1 g-grandchild; and 1 sister Mrs Emily Handler, Jerseyville. Private services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park.

WIDMANN. Died 19-03-1947. Gottlob Widmann, 83 years, 11 months, 15 days, died at his home in Jerseyville on March 29. He was born in Wurtenburg, Germany, April 14, 1863, a son of the late John & Elizabeth (Sattler) Widmann. He had been a resident of the US for 66 years and been engaged in farming for 50 years. Surviving are his wife, Mary Widmann, 3 daughters, Mrs Leonard Mourning and Mrs Oscar Handler, Jerseyville and Mrs Charles T Gerson, Godfrey; 1 son, Fred Widmann, Godfrey, and 1 stepson, Albert Gisy of Dow; 7 grandchildren and 5 g-grandchildren. Funeral services were held April 1 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Arthur A Vinz officiated. Interment was in Valhalla Memorial Park.

WIEGAND. Died 30-07-1914. Amelia Wiegand, 41, was born in Weiman, Germany on December 10, 1872. She came to the US in 1891. She married Oscar Wiegand, June 15, 1895 at Brighton, IL. She was confirmed at German Lutheran Church at the age of 14 and was also a member of the Home Dept of Fidelity Methodist Church. She died at her home in Fidelity July 30, 1914 at the age of 41. She leaves her mother, 2 bros, 1 sister, her husband; 3 daughters, Gertrude, Rose and Adelia; and 3 sons, Kurt, Albert and Melvin. Mrs Wiegand was a kind and cheerful person. The funeral was from the Methodist church at Fidelity. Rev Ha—- officiated and burial was in Oakland Cemetery.

WIEGAND. Died 26-03-1970. Miss Amy Wiegand, died March 26 at her home on Barr Ave. She was a daughter of the late Albert & Lena (Weigel) Wiegand, was born in Jerseyville on December 13, 1893. Surviving are 1 brother, Everett Wiegand of Alton; 3 sisters, Mrs Essie Weller, Springfield, Mrs Arthur (Lucile) Dabbs, Jerseyville and Mrs Dean (Nina) Cooper, Alton. WIEGAND. Died 05-04-1971. C C (Carl) Wiegand, 82 years, 6 months, 22 days, former Jersey County farmer, now of Godfrey, died April 5, at Jersey Community hospital. He had been a patient for 2 weeks. Final rites were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev W Louis Purcell, pastor of United Methodist Church, conducted the service. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. He was a son of the late George F & Nancy (Squier) Wiegand and was born in Calhoun County September 13, 1888. Mr Wiegand engaged in farming in Jersey County for a number of years, and later he and his wife operated a grocery store in Hartford. Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs S l (Lillian) Simms, Jerseyville and Mrs Neal (Gertrude) Sheppard, Bethalto; 11 grandchildren and 15 g-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, B Gladys Wiegand, 1 son, 1 grandchild and 6 brothers and sisters. Mrs Wiegand died in October 1970.

WIEGAND. Died 16-12-1954. Clarence Wiegand, 56, of Jonesburg, MO, son of the late A L Wiegand, Jerseyville, died December 16 at General hospital, Mexico, MO. He was born April 29, 1898. Prior to his lingering illness he was engaged in farming in MO. The decedent is survived by his wife, Mrs Cleo Wiegand, Jonesburg; 3 sons, robet and Gary, Jonesburg and Herbert, Alton; 2 stepsons, Thomas Montgomery, Jonesburg and Eugene Montgomery in Military service, stationed in San Antonio, TX; his mother Mrs Wiegand, Jerseyville; 4 sisters, Mrs. Harry Weller, Roodhouse, Miss Amy Wiegand, Jerseyville, Mrs Lucille Pegaram, Jerseyville and Mrs Dean cooper, Alton, and 1 brother, Everett Wiegand, Alton. The body was brought to the Harding Funeral Home at Jonesburg and then to Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at the Methodist Church, December 18, with Rev F W Schwarzlose officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

WIEGAND. Denny Ray Wiegand, 9 days, son of Dennis & Pamela (Beaty) Wiegand, of Alton, died August 30, 1990, at Cardinal Glennon hospital, St. Louis. Born in Wood River, he is also survived by his grandparents David & Carolyn Beaty, Alton, Nelson & Deloris Morgan, Wood River and Dennis & Janet Wiegand, Jerseyville; g-grandparents, Dorothy & Edwin Hoffman, Wood River, James & Norma Sauls, Alton, Charles & Ann Morgan, Sorento and Lura Vanausdoll, Jerseyville. One sister Sara Elizabeth preceded him in death. Graveside services were at Oak Grove Cemetery, Jerseyville with Rev Steven VanOstran officiated. WIEGAND. Died 11-01-1982. Edna E Wiegand, 89, died January 11 at V I P Manor Nursing Home, Wood River, where she had resided. She was born in Jersey County and is survived by 2 sons, Robert of Bethalto and Herbert, Alton; 5 grandchildren; 1 brother, Ernest Haushalter, Jerseyville; and 1 sister, Clara Arnold, also of Jerseyville. WIEGAND. Died 08-1970. Gladys Wiegand, 88, died Thursday PM at Jersey Community hospital. For the past 17 weeks Mrs Wiegand and her husband C C Wiegand, had been in Jerseyville at the home of their daughter and son-in-law Mr & Mrs S L Simms. On Mon they were both removed to Jersey Community hospital, Where Mrs Wiegand’s death occurred. Mr Wiegand was dismissed on Saturday. Mrs Wiegand, a daughter of the late George W & Nora (Larabee) White, was born at Rosedale, January 18, 1892. Surviving are her husband; 2 daughters, Mrs Lillian Sims, Jerseyville and Mrs Neal (Gertrude) Sheppard of Bethalto; 1 brother, Beryl White, Collinsville; 11 grandchildren and 15 g–grandchildren. A sister, 1 son, Charles F Wiegand and 1 grandchild preceded her in death. She was a member of Elm St. Presbyterian Church, Alton. Funeral services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Charles H Collison, of Elm St. Presbyterian Church, Alton officiated. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

WIEGAND. Died 16-11-1983. Harold E “Nuet” Wiegand, 74, of Jerseyville, died November 16, at Jersey Community hospital. He was born August 13, 1909 in Shipman son of Edward & Anna (Brueggeman) Wiegand and was a retired electrician from Duncan Foundry. He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Edsall whom he married June 2, 1933 in Wedron and 1 sister, Ethel Maxeiner, Alton. Services were held at Jacoby Wise Funeral Home. WIEGHARD. Died 02-1896. George J Wieghard, 41, of Fieldon, died recently. Burial was in St. Louis at Bellefontaine Cemetery.

WIEGAND. Marie Wiegand, 24. died August 28, 1923 at St. Joseph hospital, Alton. She was the wife of Clarence Wieghard of rural Fieldon. She was the victim of gall bladder trouble. Surviving are her husband; 1 infant dau; her parents, Mr & Mrs Pieper; 3 sisters, Mrs John Jilek, Mrs Anthony Tonsor, of Rural Jerseyville, Mrs Wm Wheaton, Fieldon; and bros, Charles and Frank Pieper. Funeral from the home of her parents and then to St. Mary’s Church. High Mass was by Rev J J Clancy. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

WIELAND. Died 10-1967. Minnie O Wieland, of Alton, died after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Louis Purcell officiated and interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Mrs Wieland was born in Greene County, daughter of the late Henry & Eliza (Swearingen) Robinson and was born January 21, 1881. Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs Walter (Margaret) Ebbert, Godfrey and Mrs Oscar (Roberta) Schmidt, Edwardsville; 3 sisters, Mrs Carrie Watts, Jerseyville, Mrs Cora Abeln, Fontana, CA, and Mrs Lucy King, Riverside, CA; 5 grandchildren; and 11 g-grandchildren. Her husband Fred preceded her in death.

WIELAND. Died 09-01-1970. Bessie I Wieland, 85 years, 3 months, 11 days, wife of Daniel W Wieland, died at her home on W Pearl, unexpectedly. Friends called at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Final rites were held at First United Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev Charles Miller of Bunker Hill and Rev James Robertson, Jerseyville. Interment was in Valhalla Memorial Park. She was a daughter of the late Charles & Nina (Moss) McDow and was born in Jersey County September 28, 1884. Surviving are her husband; 3 sons, Robert of Bellmore, Long Isl, NY, William K, Dow and Dr Clyde Wieland, Jerseyville; 8 grandchildren; and 1 g-grandchild. Mrs Wieland was a member of Jerseyville United Methodist Church, Otterville Home Ext, Dr Silas Hamilton Chapt of the DAR, and Grafton Eastern Star Chapt 318. Mr & Mrs Wieland who resided in the Dow area for many years and recently moved to Jerseyville, had marked their 55th wedding anniversary on December 27, 1969.

WIELAND. Died 05-10-1982. William K Wieland, 64, of Jerseyville, principal of West Elementary & Delhi Elementary Schools, died October 5, at Barnes hospital, St. Louis after a lengthy illness. For the past 18 years Wieland had been a teacher and administrator in Community Unit District 100, including principal at Otterville, Fieldon, Dow and Kane schools. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the U of I and master in education administration from S I U-Edwardsville. He was born June 19, 1918 in Dow, a son of the late Daiel W &I Bessie I (McDow) Wieland and married Martha Jean “Jill” (Boyd) Wieland on September 1, 1940 in Taylorville. The Wielands have been foster parents for 86 children through the Children’s Home & Aid Soc of IL. Wieland was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was an ordained elder and had served 2 terms on the Session; Jerseyville Rotary Club and member and past patron of the Grafton Order of Eastern Star. Since 1945 he was a member of the Grafton Full Moon Lodge No 341 and past master and earned the York Rite Cross of Honor. Surviving are his wife; 1 son, Daniel of Peoria; 1 daughter, Martha Wieland, Dow; 2 brothers, Dr Clyde L Wieland, Jerseyville and Robert of Phoenix, AZ. Masonic rites were conducted at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville by Grafton Full Moon Lodge. Services were held at First Presbyterian Church with Rev Simon A Simon officiating. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Pk. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church, Knight Templar Eye Foundation and Children’s Home & Aid Soc in ILL.

WIENEKE. Died 06-02-1968. Sp 4 Carl Wieneke, 25, husband of Mrs Barbara (Tinker) Wieneke and son of Mrs Gertrude Wieneke, Jerseyville, was killed in Vietnam on February 6. His wife was informed Saturday by a military representative from the Nike Base at Grafton. No details were received and arrangements are pending, awaiting the arrival of the body. Sp Wieneke, who entered the military service from Jersey County in the fall of 1966, had been in Vietnam for 6 mo. Prior to beginning his military service the 25 year old former Jerseyville resident was employed by his brother, Paul Wieneke of Jerseyville, who was then engaged in the contracting business. He was residing in Hardin when he left for Army duty. He had received his basic training at FT Riley, KS. He was son of Mrs Gertrude (Thurm) Wieneke and the late Frederic Wieneke. He was born in Roxana on June 5, 1942. He moved with his parents to Brighton in March 1945 and in May of 1948, the family moved to Jerseyville to reside. Specialist Wieneke was educated in the local schools and graduated from JCHS with the class of 1960. Surviving are his wife and mother; 2 brothers, Curtis of E Alton and Paul of Jerseyville; 1 sister, Mrs Charles (Buelah) Koenig of Mt Carmel, and his Maternal Grandmother, Mrs Hattie Dabbs, who resides at Blu Fountain Manor, Godfrey.

WIENEKE. Died 22-09-1965. George W Wieneke, 96, died September 22, at Garnet Chateau Nursing Home, Jerseyville where he had been residing. Funeral services were conducted at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Leonard Todd officiated and the body was moved to Valhalla Crematory, St. Louis. Mr Wieneke, who would have soon celebrated his 97th birthday, was a prominent orchardist from near Rosedale. He was born November 8, 1868 in Gerheim, Germany, had resided in the US for 75 years and Rosedale Tws 49 years. He was a son of the late Mr & Mrs Fritz Wieneke. During the years Mr Wieneke was engaged in the fruit growing industry he had won many prizes with his fruit entries in State and County Fairs. Surviving is 1 son, Marx Wieneke, of Fieldon who carries on his Orchard business; 2 dau-in-law, Mrs Jack Wieneke, Detroit, MI; 3 grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren and 2 g-g-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Amanda Wieneke and 1 son Jack, who was a big league baseball player; his death occurring in 1933.

WIENEKE. Died 24-03-1985. Gertrude Emma Wieneke, 82, died March 24 at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home, Jerseyville. She was born May 2, 1902 in Jersey County, daughter of the late Oscar & Hattie (Thurm) Dabbs. She married Frederic J Wieneke August 26,1926 in Springfield. He died March 1, 1953. Surviving are 2 sons, Curtis, E Alton and Paul, Jerseyville; 1 daughter, Beulah Koenig, Mt Carmel; 3 bros, Max Thurm, Alton, Ray Dabbs and Ed Dabbs, of Hartford; 17 grandchildren and 15 g-grandchildren. Funeral was conducted at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Wayne Pendelton officiated and burial was in Meadow Branch Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Greenwood Manor.

WIENEKE. Died 07-12-1927. Johanna Wieneke, 68, daughter of Joseph & Mary Quitt, was born near Grafton, October 2, 1859. She died December 7, 1927. She married Fredric Wieneke on April 14, 1879. She leaves her husband; 4 daughters, Mrs Warren Fraley, E Alton, Mrs James Whirl, Fieldon, Mrs August F Nolte, Brussels, and Mrs Mark Fraley, Fieldon; 2 sons, Charles C at home and Fred Wieneke, Roxana; 6 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs Eliza Stahl, Jerseyville and Mrs Herman Guenther, Grafton; 1 brother, Joseph Quitt of Grafton and other relatives. WIENEKE. Died 02-01-1980. Marx Wieneke, 82, of Rosedale, a Jersey County orchardist, died at St. Mary Health Center, Richmond Hts, MO. He was born October 11, 1897 in Avonmore, PA, a son of George W & Amanda (Gruenwald) Wieneke. Marx was a colorful figure in Jersey County fair parades and parades statewide through the years with his beard and little donkey. His only survivor is his wife, Vena (Stevens) Wieneke whom he married April 20, 1938. Services were conducted at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. WIENEKE. Died 09-09-1984. Vena G Wieneke, 74, who with her husband, Marx, owned and operated the Wieneke Orchard, in Jersey County, died September 9 at VIP Manor Nursing Home, Wood River. She was born November 9, 1909, in Greene County, daughter of Roy & Lula (Grizzle) Stevens. She married Marx Wieneke and he died in January of 1980. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Jerseyville and was a past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star Chapt, Grafton. Surviving are 3 sisters, Eileen Kinser, Roxana, Meda Garver, Albuquerque, NM and Freda Dabbs, Jerseyville; 3 brothers, Earl L Stevens, E Moline, William R Stevens, Wood River, and Roy H Stevens, Springfield. Visitation was at Gray Funeral Home, Wood River. Where services were held on September 12 with Rev Roy Gibbs of Roxana First Baptist Church officiating and burial was Kane Cemetery. WIENER. William Wiener, 83, died July 12, 1987, at St. Mary hospital, St. Louis after a short illness. He was formerly engaged in farming and became a partner with C & W Equipment Company in 1955, before retiring in 1972. He was born in Batchtown, son of the late Ernest & Anna (Booheister) Wiener Sr. He married the former Winona Campbell on June 28, 1933, in Carrollton. Surviving, besides his wife, are 1 brother, Ernest “Doc” Wiener Jr of Brighton; 4 sisters, Anna foiles, Jerseyville, Dorothy Vetter, Brighton, Ethel Smith, Meredosia and Ella Lynch, Conrad, IA. He was preceded in death by 1 brother and 2 sisters. Visitation was held from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral was held at Jerseyville Church of Christ with Charles Reiser officiating. Burial was in Indian Creek Cemetery at Hamburg. Memorials may be given to the church where he was a member.

WIGGINS. Died 02-1928. Minerva (Cocrell) (Brown) Wiggins, 76, died at Kane. She was the youngest child of the late Dennis & Mary Brown and was born in what was Greene Co. She married John Wiggins on May 16, 1872. He died May 31, 1925. They were parents of 2 children, Dennis Brown, who died at the age of 2 and Mary Wiggins who survives. Mrs Wiggin’s niece, Elizabeth O Haner, who was reared by her, married Columbus Van Horne. Body was taken to the home of Mrs Elmer Wilcox, Jerseyville. Funeral from Baptist church with Rev Joseph Jenkins officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

WIGHTMAN. Nell Wightman, 72, died October 2, 1989 at St. Anthony hospital, Alton, after a long illness. She was a manager at Illini Federal in Greenville for 20 years, retiring in 1977. Born in Jerseyville, she was the daughter of the late Harry & Zetta Blish. She married Earl Wightman on August 14, 1944, in New London, CT, and he survives. Also surviving are 1 son, Ronald E Wightman, Alton; 4 grandchildren; 5 g-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Lewis Darel Blish, Jerseyville. A sister, Leah Holiday, preceded her in death. Visitation and services were from Gent Funeral Home, Alton. Rev Kenneth Dobson officiated and burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park. WIIST. Died 20-08-1963. Edward Louis Wiist, 54, well known farmer of the Fieldon area, was found crushed beneath a tractor on which he had been working on in a shed at the farm. He had gone from the house around noon to work with some hogs at the farm. When he failed to return for the evening meal members of his family startled looking for him, and a neighbor, Herbert Thomas joined the search. Mr Thomas found Mr Wiist pinioned beneath the tractor. It is believed that the decedent had started to do some work on the heavy piece of machinery and that a jack which had been used to elevate the front end of it had slipped causing the fatal accident. Mr Wiist was born in Fieldon, September 3, 1908, a son of the late William & Theresa (Walz) Wiist. He would have been 55 in 1 month. Surviving are his wife, Mrs Virginia M Wiist; 1 son, William J Wiist, Godfrey; 2 daughters, Mrs Richard (Betty) Wilson, Jerseyville and Miss Marcella Wiist, Fieldon; 1 granddaughter, Joyce Wilson; and 6 sisters, Mrs Louis Hagen, Fieldon, Mrs Margaret Drainer, Wood River, Mrs Pauline Franklin, E Alton, Mrs Dorothy eyers, Brighton, and Mrs Theresa Klunk and Mrs Mildred Healey, Jerseyville. His parents, 1 son, Robert, and 1 daughter, Barbara, preceded him in death.

WIIST. Died 11-01-1963. Robert E Wiist, 24, of the Fieldon vicinity, died January 11 at the home of his parents near Fieldon. WILCOX. Died 12-1906. William Charles Wilcox, 62, died at his home of typhoid fever. Funeral from Baptist Church with Rev W W Hicks. He was born in England, October 15, 1844 and came from England with his parents at the age of 5, arriving in NY. They moved to St. Louis, where both parents d. He then came to Jerseyville and lived with J C Winsor until he married. He was the third in a family of 5. Surviving are his wife, Emma (Norris) Wilcox whom he married on September 9, 1879, 1 brother, John of Mt Carmel; 1 sister, Mrs Ann Smith, Cold Water, MI. One brother, Samuel Wilcox, died in July 1906; and 2 sons, Norris J, died in 1904, age 22 and Melvin W, died at age 5, preceded him in death. He joined Hickory Grove Camp MWA #442 in 1892. She is survived by 2 sons, Charles L Wilcox of Lawton, OK and Edwin F Wilcox of Emden, MO; 2 daughters, Mrs Fred (Bessie W) Morgan, St. Louis, MO, and Mrs Paul (Helen M) Rhoads, Green Valley, AZ; 2 sisters, Mrs Mae Ulrich, Minneapolis, MN and Mrs Clara Voorhees, Urbana; 1 grandson and 4 g-granddaughters. WILDT. Died 27-07-1986. Derrill G Wildt, 70, of Grafton, died at St. Anthony hospital, Alton. He was born June 29, 1916, in Pearl to William & Zoah (Baird) Wildt. He married Velma (Finnie) Wildt on August 11, 1942, in St. Charles, MO. He was a salesman for Metropolitan Ins for 27 years. He was treasurer for the City of Grafton for 4 years. He was a member of Grafton United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge and Grafton Vol Emergency Corps. He was past master of Full Moon Masonic Lodge #341 and past patron of Eastern Star. Surviving are his wife, Velma, Grafton; mother Zoah Wildt, Wood River; 2 sons, Les, Virginia Beeh, VA and Kevin of Alton; 1 sister, Audrey Peecher, Wood River; 1 brother, John, E Alton; and 4 grandchildren. She was born in Ithaca, NY on December 25, 1846, the daughter of James & Mary Hayes. She married John Wiley in 1878. Several institutions benefited from her will: Orphan’s Home of St. Louis, South Side Nursery Assoc, St. Louis and Jervile Provident Assoc.

WILEY. John Wiley, 73 years, 8 months, 18 days, died Tuesday at his home in this city. Mr Wiley was one of the pioneer citizens of Jerseyville, having for many years been engaged in business here and was a highly esteemed gentleman. He was stricken with paralysis a wk ago and since that time has been very low. Funeral services were held at his residence with Rev W H Stone officiating.

WILEY. Died 12-1883. Mrs Susan Wiley, 72, mother of John Wiley, died at his residence yesterday. She had fallen on the ice breaking her hip. She was a resident of Jerseyville for many years. Funeral from the home with Rev Van Winkle officiating.

WILKERSON. BORN 30-07-1847. Died 21-10-1927. Sophia E Wilkerson, 80 died at the home of her cousin, Mrs J F Stevens at Piasa on October 21, 1927. She was born at the old Tribble homestead, known later as the Wilkerson farm, near Piasa, daughter of John & Mary (Hobson) Tribble. At the tender age of 13, she was bereft of her parents. Her sister and she then made their home with their cousin, Capt John Tribble of Upper Alton, IL. She attended the public schools of Alton, later entering Monticello Seminary at Godfrey. After her school life, she, in the company with her sister traveled abroad in Europe, visiting in England, Germany, France, Switzerland and other countries. Returning to the US, she was united in marriage to L G Wilkerson, at Carrollton, IL on December 18, 1873. After their marriage they resided 8-10 years on their farm west of Piasa. Later they moved to the west where they spent about 20 years, then returned to Piasa where they spent the remainder of their days. In early life, she was converted and united with the Presbyterian church, later uniting with the Methodist church of Piasa and continuing in that fellowship until death. Active in Ladies Aid, she was of a retiring disposition, loyal to a friend, never forgetting a kindness, and always showing her appreciation of any kindness shown her. About 28 years ago she was bereft by the death of her sister, Mrs Jennie Drew and later, January 22, 1924, her husband passed to the Great Beyond. She leaves several cousins.

WILKINSON. Died 02-1990. Carrie E Wilkinson, 71, of Jerseyville died February 6, at Jerseyville Care Center. Services were held at Gospel Assembly Church by the Rev Clyde Shaw with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. She was born in Crawford County, MO on May 26, 1908, a daughter of James & Margaret (Brakefield) Evans. She married Elmer died Wilkinson in Oct, 1926; he died May 7, 1967.

WILKINSON. Died 24-01-1992. Lindell Wilkinson, 62, died January 24, 1992 at Jersey Community hospital. A US Army veteran of the Korean War, he retired in 19j86 as a group leader at Olin Corp, E Alton, after 33 years service. He was born December 23, 1929, at Huzza, MO, a son of the late Elmer & Carrie (Evans) Wilkinson. He married the former Wanda Abbott on September 11, 1954, in Carrollton. She survives. Also surviving are 1 son, L Greg Wilkinson, Kane; 3 daughters, Pam Wilkinson, Bowling Green, KY, Patrice Hoots, of Kansas City, MO, and Wendy Patrick, Mission, KS; 4 grandchildren; 1 step grandson; 4 bros, Curtis Wilkinson, Dow, Loya and Terry Wilkinson, Jerseyville and Danny Wilkinson, Grandview, MO; and 5 sisters, Loretta Calrkson and Noomi Dunsing, Jerseyville, Wilma Lynn and Zelma Denham, both of Kansas City, and Gwen Marshall, Kane. One brother, Johnny Wilkinson, preceded him in death. Visitation was at Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home, where services were held by Rev Terry Turner. Burial was Oak Grove Cemetery. She married John T Williams on January 13, 1905. She leaves her husband, 1 son, Eldon, her father and mother. One brother, John preceded her in death. WILLIAMS. Died 05-04-1950. Dalton H Williams, 74 years, 1 month, 12 days, died April 5, in Alton. Services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Gerald Grotey, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiated and interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. He was the son of the late Dr J A & Margaret Blackstock Williams, and was born at Otterville, February 23, 1876. Mr Williams’ only survivor is a brother, John A Williams of the Grafton vicinity.

WILLIAMS. Died 06-1883. David Carl Williams, 62, died at his home 5 miles NE of Jerseyville. He was born in Baskenridge, NJ and lived there until 1874 when he moved to Jersey Co. He leaves a widow and 2 sons, James F and John M Williams. Rev Tyson officiated at the funeral and burial was in the city cem.

WILLIAMS. Earnest Berry Williams, 35, died November 8, 1988 at St. Louis University Medical Center, after a brief illness. He was administrator of Jersey Care Center, Jerseyville the past 2 1/2 years. Prior to that, he worked for Kroger Company for12 years. He was a licensed minister with Beverly Manor Baptist Church, Washington, IL, and for 5 years, taught Illinois Missionary Baptist Institute at Washington. At the time of his death Williams was chairman of the Jersey County American Cancer Soc, President of Gateway Chapt (IL) Health Care Assoc, director of the Arthritis Foundation and a member of the American College of Health Care Adm. Born in Paragould, AR, he was the son of Bettye Williams Thomas of Peoria and Alvin E Williams. He married Loretta (Rymer) Williams on January 22, 1972, at Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Stephanie Anastasia Williams, at home; 1 son, John Berry Williams at home; and 2 bros, W D Williams, Peoria and Wayne Edward Williams of Sunnyland. Visitation was at First Baptist Church, Jerseyville. Rev Charles Epperly officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to an educational fund for the Williams Children has been established at State Bank of Jerseyville.

He was a retired general laborer, and was born August 9, 1882 in Greene County, The son of Lewis Robert & Melissa (Morris) Williams. He is survived by 1 dau; 1 grandson, Robert Mowen, Jerseyville; 2 g-grandchildren and 1 half-sis, Mrs Faye Douglas of MO. His wife, Minnie (Stearns) Williams, 1 brother and 1 sister preceded him in death.

WILLIAMS. Died 11-1868. Mr Williams, an old resident of this county, died last week of lung fever. He has lived in the Illinois Bottom for a number of years, and was one of the wealthiest and most industrious men in our co. He served one term as Associate Judge in the County Court.

WILLIAMS. Lewis A “Abe” Williams, 78, died February 18, 1988, at his residence. Williams was a barber in Jerseyville and Brighton until retiring in 1974. The WW II U S Navy Veteran, was born in Alva, OK, son of the late John T & Mary Ellen (Abbot) Williams. On April 15, 1939, he married Rosalie (Hughes) Williams in St. Charles, MO and she died October 27, 1982. Surviving are 1 daughter, Ruth Embly, Brighton; 2 grandchildren; 4 sisters, Tempa Groves, Kane, Helen “Sis” Price, Hillview, Mary Sandberg, Jerseyville and Bessie Pinkerton, Carrollton; and 2 bros, Delbert “Dutch” Williams, Jerseyville and Roy Williams, Carrollton. He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Merle Watts; and 3 bros, Howard Sonny, John T and Gilbert Williams. WILLIAMS. Died 06-04-1975. Louie Genevieve Williams, 73, of Kane, died April 6, at Boyd Memorial hospital, Carrollton. She was born Dec 7, 1901 in Greene County, a daughter of Fred & Sarah Ellen (Reno) Gardiner. She was a member of Kane Methodist Church and WSCS. Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs Irene Bennett, Alton, and Mrs Lois Panzier, Kane; 2 grandchildren; 3-g-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Landon Gardiner, Dalton. Her husband, Donald Lee Williams, 1 brother, and 1 sister preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at Kane Methodist Church with Rev John Sims officiating. Interment was in Kane Cemetery.

WILLIAMS. Died 01-1917. Margaret “Maggie” (Blackstack) Williams, 66, was born in Milwaukee, WI on February 5, 1850 and died in January of 1917. When a small child, her parents moved to Alton, IL and lived there until 1859, when they moved to Otterville. She was a teacher at the Presbyterian Church. In 1892, she became a member of the Methodist church of Jerseyville. On December 22, 1873, she married Dr John S Williams of Otterville. They made their home in Otterville until 1890 when they moved to Jerseyville. She leaves 2 sons, John B, Otterville and Dalton H, Jerseyville; and 4 brothers, Joseph, Gunnison, CO, John B Case, Belle Fourche, SD, (this location disagrees with the will, which follows. Thomas A Case, Otterville, and Samuel G Case, Carthage, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband and 1 daughter, who died in infancy. —Will Probated February 1917: The personal property was left to her sons, Dalton H and John B Williams, share to share alike. To Dalton H Williams is left all the real estate for life and to his heirs should he leave any or should he die leaving no heirs the property goes to John B Williams and in case both Dalton H and John B Williams died without heirs, the property is to go to her brother and half-brothers, Joe Blackstock of Gunnison, CO, John B Case of Belle Flauche, CO, Samuel G Case of Carthage, IL and Thomas A Case of Otterville, IL. The property inventoried at about $6, 000. Dr J S Williams died intestate and most of the real estate left to Dalton H Williams is that with which he came into possession of at the time of his father’s death, and deeded to his mother. The real estate included Jerseyville Property and Otterville Property and a 160 acre farm in Otter Creek Tws. John & Dalton Williams were named as executers.

WILLIAMS. Mark Williams, 81, of Alton, died March 11, 1986, at St. Anthony hospital after a short illness. He was born in Grafton, a son of the late John R & Fannie R (Wedding) Williams. His wife Adele “Ada” (Klinke) Williams died November 14, 1979. They were married November 28, 1929, in Alton. He was an operating engineer at Shell Oil Company for 39 years retiring in 1962. Surviving are 1 daughter, Sandra Kay Falukos, Fenton, MO; 1 son, Jack Williams, Godfrey; 13 grandchildren; 4 g-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Nina Golike, W Alton, MO, and Myra Velikis, Alton. Visitation was from Staten Funeral Home, Alton, where the rosarywas said Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church, Alton with Msgr James A Suddes as celebrant. She was born July 9, 1921 in Boise, ID, the daughter of Earl & Myrtle (Patient) Williams. Her husband, John T Williams, preceded her in death. Surviving are 2 sons, John T Williams Jr, Jerseyville, Allison Earl Porter; 6 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Wayne Williams and Thomas Clinton Williams, Eddyville, IA; and 3 sisters, Mrs Porter Whitlock, Jerseyville, Mrs Edna Whitlock, Carrollton and Mrs Mabel Wilkinson. The self-employed farmer was born in Jerseyville, a son of Lola (Schisler) Williams, Jerseyville and the late William C Williams. He married Patricia (Hoekstra) Williams on December 12, 1948, in Grafton, and she died Aug, 25, 1984. Surviving are his Mother; 2 daughters, Laura Watson, Jerseyville and Linda Duncan, Wood River; 1 son, Randy Williams, Jerseyville; 3 grandchildren; and 1 brother, William Williams, Brighton. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services were at the funeral with Rev Earl Clagg officiating. Burial was at Hartford Cemetery, Grafton. Her husband, Leslie, died May 15, 1957, and 1 son also preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. He was born April 13, 1891 in Rockbridge, a son of David J & Alice F (Greene) Williams. His wife, Elsie (Bright) Williams, whom he married on July 20, 1915, died December 13, 1972. Surviving are 1 daughter, Mary Florence Hefner of Jerseyville; 2 grandsons; 5 g-grandchildren and l brother, Louis L Williams, Bloomington. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and 1 son, Warren Robb Williams. Services were held at First Presbyterian Church by Rev M Edwards Breed with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. William Christoher Williams, 83 years, 3 months, 12 days, retired farmer of the Grafton vicinity, died January 13, at Jersey Community hospital where he had been a patient for 13 days. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Donald Riley, pastor of Grafton Methodist Church, officiated and burial was in Hartford Cemetery. He was a life-long-resident of Jersey County, and was born October 1, 1883. His parents were the late Mr & Mrs William Williams. He was a member of Jersey County Farm Bureau and Rosedale Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs Lola M Williams of rural Grafton, 2 sons, Philip Williams, Grafton and William L Williams, Alton; and 3 grandchildren. He also leaves nieces and nephews.

WILLIAMS. Jerseyville Lola Mae Williams, 93, died at 6:25a.m. Saturday, July 28, 1990, at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville. She was a member of Rosedale Methodist Church and the Jerseyville Royal Neighbors. Born in Vermont, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Henry F. and Ruth Ella Schisler. She married William C. Williams in 1931. He died Jan. 13, 1967. Surviving are a son, William Lee Williams of Brighton; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Willis Schisler of Peoria. A son, Phillip E. Williams and two brothers preceded her in death. Visitation is from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Monday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Funeral services for Nelson Williams, 86-year-old Civil War veteran, were conducted this morning at the Harford church in Quarry township of Jersey County. The funeral party left the Bauer & Hoehn home at 9 a.m. for the church. Interment was in Quarry township. Mr. Williams died Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Grace Tierney, 720 East Fourth street.

WILLIAMS. Alton Evening Telegraph, August 28, 1984. Jerseyville Patricia J. Williams, 53, died at 9:20 a.m. Monday at Jersey Community Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in East St. Louis, daughter of Roy and Helen (Stone) Hoekstra of Jerseyville, she married Phillip Eugene Williams on Dec. 12, 1948 in Grafton. Surviving are her parents and husband, also two daughters, Linda Duncan of Wood River and Laura Watson of Jerseyville: a son, Randy of Jerseyville; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville where the services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Earl Clagg officiating. WILLIS. Died 10-1967. Donald Milton Willis, 38 years, 6 months, 26 days, a farmer and construction worker living in Rural Jerseyville, was dead on arrival at Jersey Community hospital. Death occurred as Willis was being moved to the hospital after he was found in the driveway of his home suffering from a gunshot wound in the head. Inquest pending by Coroner Rodney Jacoby. WILLIS. Died 10-03-1947. Frank Harvey Willis, a former Fidelity resident died at his home in Pekin, March 10, following an illness of about 2 years. He was born a Middletown, MO on June 28, 1875, a son of David & Rhoda (Truelove) Willis. He married Gertrude (Cluster) on November 15, 1894, and they had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1944. Surviving are his wife, 1 son, Dr R Lee Willis, San Antonio, TX, and 1 daughter, Mrs Manford Watson, Pekin. Funeral services and burial was in Pekin.

She was born on September 4, 1902, in Columbus, KY, a daughter of the late Stephen & Sarah (Edwards) Lewis. She married William R Willis in August 1942, in St. Charles, Missouri. He died November 3, 1966. Surviving are 1 step-dau, Betty Mohr, Jerseyville; 1 grandchild; 9 step-grandchildren; 18 step-g-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Nancy Jane Kamarit of Sparta. He was a foreman in the metallic department at Olin Corp for 34 years prior to his retirement in 1970. He was the father of William T Willis, Jerseyville. WILLIS. Died 17-04-1982. William T Willis, 46, of Jerseyville was found on April 17, by the Grafton Emergency Corps. The body was recovered in the Glades area near the location where his boat was found, he had been reported missing on April 1. The Navy veteran had been employed by Laclede Steel for 27 years. He was born September 13, 1935 in Moberly, Missouri, a son of the late Virgil & Geneva Rogers. Surviving are his widow, Sharon (Wadlow) Willis; 2 sons, Jeff and Daren; 3 daughters, Deidre, Sur, and Jill; 2 sisters, Judith Lloyd, Bethalto and Phyllis Russell, Ft Meyers, FL. Services were conducted at First Assembly of God Church, Jerseyville with Revs Wayne Pendleton, Pastor, and William Russell, Willis’ brother in law officiating. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park. WILLMAN. Died 28-12-1972. Alice Agnes Willman, 91 years, 5 months, 28 days, died shortly after her admission to Jersey Community hospital on December 28. She had been living at Garnet Chateau Nursing home. Services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev James Pepper officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. WILLMAN. Died 01-04-19?? Herman Douglas Willman, 58, of Hardin, died April 1 at Jefferson Barracks hospital, St. Louis after a lengthy illness. He was born in Belleview, son of Sarah Jane Williams, Fieldon and the late Ray Willman. He was a WW II Army Veteran and a retired laborer from the Brass Mill at Olin Corp. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Juanita Willman, Golden Eagle; 1 brother, Everett Willman, White Hall and 1 sister, Nellie Williams, Granite City. WILSON. Died 12-02-1950. Cora Ellen Wilson, 68, of Morrisonville, died February 12, at Boyd Memorial hospital, Carrollton where she had been a patient since February 3. She was a daughter of the late Mr & Mrs Samuel Rich and spent her early days in the Fidelity vicinity. Following her marriage to J D Wilson she moved to Morrisonville. His death occurred August 14, 1945. Mrs Wilson was a member of the Morrisonville Baptist Church and of Glenwood Chapt 459, Order of Eastern Star. Mrs Wilson is survived by 2 sons, Dr O D Wilson, Carrollton and Stuart R Wilson, Morrisonville; and 4 grandchildren. WILSON. Died 29-01-1992. James DeVoe Wilson, 61, formerly of Nutwood, died January 29, 1992 at John Cochran Veteran’s Adms hospital, St. Louis. He was a civil engineer for the IL Dept of Transportation. He was a US Air Force Korean War Veteran and a member of Collinsville American Legion, Jerseyville Elks, Alton Eagles, Wood River Loyal Order of Moose and American soc of Civil Engineers. He and his wife had owned and operatedRiver Road Inn in Grafton for 14 years. Born in Boxley, AR, on August 9, 1930, he was a son of the late James David & Stella Marion (Edgemond) Wilson. On February 14, 1976, he married Joyce Ann (Ragus) Wilson in Las Vegas, NV. She survives. Also surviving are 1 son, James D Wilson II, Collinsville; 1 grandson; and 1 brother George C Wilson, Raytown, MO. Preceding him in death were 1 brother, Bill Wilson; and 1 sister, Beverly Cornett. Services were at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev William Hembrow officiated. Military graveside rites were held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis County, MO, by Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 and VFW Post 4528. He was a retired farmer, fire chief of Lake City and a member of the Lake City Bible Church, and the father of Mrs Tom Wierzba, Jerseyville. Services were held in the McMullin Funeral Home, Sullivan with Rey Bernard Reedy of Dalton City officiating. Burial was in Hewitt Cemetery near Lovington. WILSON. Died 23-03-1981. Mabel A Wilson, 74, formerly of Jerseyville died March 23 at Hawthorne Nursing home in Hawthorne, CA. She was born in Jerseyville, a daughter of the late Harry & Alma Whiteneck and married Percy W Wilson. He survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Mildred L Wagner, Godfrey and Joyce Kruse, Anaheim, CA; 6 grandchildren; and 7 g-grandchildren. WILSON. Mary F Wilson, 77, died February 21, 1992, at Alton Memorial hospital. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Jerseyville. Born in Mozier on October 29, 1914, she was daughter of the late William & Martha (Tolbert) Blackston. On June 24, 1931, she married Orville R “Pete” Wilson, and he died November 3, 1981. Surviving are 1 daughter, Joanne Hill, E Alton; 2 sons, Richard “Dick” Wilson, Liberty and Russell “Russ” Wilson, Jerseyville; 5 grandchildren; 6 g-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Alice Hobbs, Pleasant Hill and Sadie Bland, Jerseyville; and 1 brother, George Blackston, Wood River. Preceding her in death were 2 brothers, Frank & James Blackston; and 5 sisters, Bilby Clowers, Charlotte, Florence Booth and Minnie and Maude Blackston. She was born in Mozier, Calhoun County on January 26, 1897, a daughter of Sidney & Amanda Rosa Ansell. Surviving are her husband, W Otto Wilson; 1 daughter, Ruth Fonner, Jerseyville; 2 sons, Maurice Wilson, Brighton and William Wilson of Virginia, IL; 9 grandchildren; 4 g-grandchildren. Visitation was from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The body was then taken to the Church of Christ on RT 267, with Bro Boyd Goodson officiating. Scripture and prayer service was conducted at Indian Creek Church south of Hamburg followed by burial in the church cem. Memorials may be given to the Church of Christ.

WILSON. Died 11-1981. Orville R “Pete” Wilson Sr, 70, died at Jersey Community hospital. The Calhoun native, son of the late Martin & Nell (Surgeon) Wilson, was a machinist at Owens-IL until retiring after 31 years of service. He married Mary (Blackston) Wilson on June 24, 1931 in Jersey County and she survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Joanne Hill, E Alton; 2 sons, Richard “Dick” Wilson and Russell “Russ” Wilson, both of Jerseyville; 5 grandchildren; 1 sister, Ellen Mitchell, Alton; and 3 bros, Vernon and Bill both of Jerseyville, and James of Hamburg. She was born June 2, 1891 in Jerseyville, a daughter of Mr & Mrs Thomas Rush. She was the widow of Walter H Wilson who died January 11, 1966. WILSON. Died 22-08-1928. Viola Isabelle Wilson, daughter of George & Fannie Clower, was born near Kemper on March 17, 1891. She joined the Baptist church at Piasa March 9 1912. She married Sherman Wilson and they went to Montana until 1923 when they returned to IL and located in Alton. She died August 22, 1928 and leaves her husband; father & mother; 4 sisters, Mrs Charles Hodges of Richlea, Canada; Midd Della Clower, White Hall, Mrs Authur Gilliam and Mrs Earl Hunt of Piasa, 3 brothers, Henry, White Hall, Walter and Rolla of Alton; 4 nieces and 2 nephews.

WILSON. Died 08-12-1975. Walter Clarence Wilson, 63, of Grafton, died December 8, at his home in Grafton. He was a son of the late Theodore & Annie (Birkenmeyer) Wilson and was born in Jersey County, March 8, 1890. Mr Wilson was a member of Jerseyville Lodge 394, AF & AM. Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Wilson, Jerseyville, and 2 nieces, Mrs Hazel Courson, Abingdon, and Miss Marie Wilson, Jerseyville.

WILSON. Died 08-01-1982. William Otto Wilson, 83, of Jerseyville died January 8, at Mesa Lutheran hospital, Mesa, AZ. He was born October 17, 1898 in Hardin, son of the late William S & Arvelia Jane (Hirst) Wilson. Until the time of his death, he was president of the board of directors of Heriatge Savings & Loan where he had served since 1966. He was employed by Jersey County Farm Supply from 1929-49 and was an International Harvester dealer, 1949-57. He serves as Jersey County Treasurer from 1958-62 and was a former member of the Jersey County school board. Wilson was also a member of Jerseyville Masonic Lodge #394 AF & AM, Shriners, and the Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife Osee (Kinscherff) Wilson; 2 sons, Maurice A Wilson, Brighton; William S Wilson, Virginia, IL; 1 daughter, Ruth Fonner, Jerseyville; 9 grandchildren; 5 g-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Morritt Wilson, Pleasant Hill, and Precy Wilson, Englewood, CA; 2 sisters, Marie Freesmeyer, Jerseyville and Geneva Bell, Benton, KY. His first wife, Myrtle (Ansell) Wilson, died October 2, 1978. Visitation was from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at the Church of Christ on Rt 267. After that service the body was moved to the Indian Creek Church of Christ near Hamburg, where another service was conducted by David Hammer. Interment was in Indian Creek Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Church of Christ, Jerseyville.

WILTON. Died 12-1982. Arthur T “Fuzzy” Wilton, 83, died at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. He was born in Medora, son of the late Sidney & Rosa (Chism) Wilton. He operated a grocery store in Medora for 22 years and served as town Water Commissioner. He was a WW I Veteran and a 62 year member of Fidelity Masonic Lodge # 152 in Medora. He married the former Marie (Patton) Wilton October 10, 1922, in Alton. She survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Patricia Cameron, Medora; 3 grandchildren; and 1 brother, Stanley, Alton. Visitation was from Warner-Targhettaa Funeral Home, Medotra. The body was moved to Mt Pleasant Baptist Church, where services were conducted by Rev William Loafman. Burial was in Medora Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Mt Pleasant Baptist Church where he had been a deacon.

WILTON. Died 12-1983. Marie Wilton, 83, died at Springfield Memorial hospital. Born in Grafton, a daughter of the late Fred & Emma (Conner) Patton. She married Arthur T Wilton on October 10, 1922 in Alton. He died December 27, 1982. Surviving is are 1 daughter, Patricia Cameron, Medora; 3 grandchildren; and 1 g-grandchild. Visitation was at Warner-Targhetta Funeral Home, Medora. The remains were removed to Mt Pleasant Baptist Church, Medora were services were conducted by Revs William Loafman and Dan Presswood. Burial was in Medora Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Mt Pleasant Baptist Church.

WILTON. Died 06-05-1976. Stella Wilton, 85, died at Carlinville Area hospital. Funeral services were held at Warner-Targhetta Funeral Home, Medora. Rev Allen Schoff of Federated Church, Carlinville, assisted by Rev John Kakac of Memorial Christian Church, Carlinville, officiated. Mrs Inez Mains, Medora presided at the organ playing Mrs Wilton’s favorite hymns “Back of the Clouds,” “Mansion Over the Hilltop’ and “Jesus Whispers Peace.’ Interment was in Medora Cemetery with Gene Chism, Gene Scheaferm, Vernon Maskam, Martin Kitzmiller, Dale Smith and James Mains as pallbearers. She was born July 17, 1890 near Medora, daughter of the late William & Sarah Bister. On September 12, 1912, she was united in marriage to Leslie Wilton who preceded her in death in 1960. She was a member of Summerville Presbyterian Church since 1907 and she was a member of the Ladies Aid Soc, Womens Christian Temperance Union, the – incomplete.

WIMMERSBERG. Died 03-09-1982. Gary Lee Wimmersberg, 28, of Huntsville, formerly of Jerseyville, died September 3 in Huntsville. He was born July 4, 1954, son of William & Judy (Sawyer) Wimmersberg in Carrollton. He was a veteran of the US Navy. Surviving are his parents, 1 sister, Linda Wimmersberg and 1 brother, William Jr. Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church, Jerseyville with Rev Clay Noah officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery where military rites were conducted by Jerseyville American Legion Post. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church.

WIMMERSBERG. Died 11-1971. John H Wimmersberg Sr, a retired shoe employee, died at Jersey Community hospital. Funeral services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Carlton Christenson, pastor of First Baptist Church officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. He was born in Alton, November 5, 1900, a son of the late John M & Christene (Brechel) Wimmersberg. He had been in failing health for some time and for the past few months he had resided at Garnet’s Chateau. Surviving are 3 sons, Chief Warrant Officer John H Wimmersberg Jr, of Ft Bliss, TX; First Class Petty Officer Michael Wimmersberg, of May Port, FL, and William R Wimmersberg, Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Mrs Rex Salyer, Riverside, CA and Mrs Jean Miller, Pomona, CA; 2 sisters, Mrs Joseph Bahr, Sr, of Redondo Beach, CA, and Mrs Leroy Tomlinson, Godfrey and 17 Grandchildren.

WINCHELL. Died 1940. Anna Katherine Winchell, 73, of Eldred, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Ernest Kolb, in Alton. She had suffered several strokes and had been ill for more than 5 years. She was a daughter of Michael & Barbara (Bechtoldt) Wirth and was born January 2, 1867 in Calhoun Co. She married Alvin Winchell November 14, 1889 and for the past 36 years, they had loved on their farm east of Eldred. Because of her poor health she had gone to stay with her daughter in Alton. Surviving is are her husband; 2 sons, Ira and Irwin; and 2 daughters, Mrs Ernest Kolb and Mrs Lena Wirts, all of Alton; 1 sister, Miss Francis Wirth, Jerseyville; 1 half-bro, George Wirth and 1 half sister, Mrs Joe Zipprich, Kampsville; 7 grandchildren and 4 g-grandchildren.

WINCHELL. Died 05-1970. Howard Silas Winchell, 69, a retired merchant of Fieldon, died at Jersey Community hospital. Funeral service was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev William Smith officiated and interment was in Fieldon Cemetery. Born July 8, 1900 in Greene County he was a son of the late Walter & Mary (Flatt) Winchell. He is survived by his wife, Ethel (Herring) Winchell; 3 daughters, Mrs Floyd Isringhausen and Mrs Howard Gerson, Fieldon and Mrs Harold Tant, Hartford; 9 grandchildren and 1 g-grandchild.

WINELAND. Died 04-03-1977. Leslie Wineland, 81, retired farmer and former teacher in Calhoun County, died March 4, at Illini Community hospital, Pittsdfield. Services were held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and Burial was in Crescent Heights Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Leta Angelo (Armstrong) Wineland; 4 daughters, Mrs Winnie Tucker, Jerseyville, Mrs Geraldine rue, Delhi, Mrs Marian Roller, Godfrey and Mrs Carmine Waymack, Lancaster, CA; 2 stepsons, Neil Armstrong, Overland Park, KS and James Armstrong, Dallas TX; 1 step daughter, Mrs Joyce Bomke, Jacksonville; 2 bros, Norman of Hamburg and Ferdie of Camden, NJ; 4 sisters, Mrs Nola Baughman, Mrs Gladys Witjen and Mrs Faith Hastings, Pleasant Hill and Mrs Nellie Parks, St. Louis; 16 grandchildren; 28 g-grandchildren; and 2 g-g-grandchildren.

WINGER. Died 09-1959. Lena Winger, 85, died at Alton Memorial hospital, where she had been taken from Whyte Nursing Home. She had made her home there for the last 2 years. Services were held at Gent Chapel, Alton, and burial was in Elsah Cemetery. She was a daughter of the late Mr & Mrs Christian Besterfeldt and was born at Elsah on March 13, 1874. She married George Winger on January 3, 1897, in Elsah. The couple moved to Alton in 1906 and Mr Winger was engaged in the transfer business for many years. His death occurred in Dec, 1955. Mrs Winger was a member of Elm St. Presbyterian Church and the Royal Neighbors and Rebekah Lodges. Surviving are 1 daughter, Mrs Curtis Fisher and 1 son, Clarence, bothof Alton; 1 brother, Harry Besterfeldt, Alton; 1 sister, Mrs Addie Adney, Elsah; 4 grandchildren and 10 g-grandchildren.

WINKLER. Died 07-02-1989. Betty Jo Winkler, 50, was dead on arrival at the scene of an automobile accident 3 miles S of Jerseyville on RT 267. She was a manager at Hucks Convenience store in E Alton and had previously worked at the Jerseyville and Granite City Hucks. Born in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, she was the daughter of Noel E Edwards of Poplar Bluff and the late Lily Fern (Carnahan) Edwards. On May 7, 1960, she married Donald Winkler in Poplar Bluff and he survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Tamara Winkler, Jerseyville and Tawnya Winkler, a student at ILL State University, Norman; 1 sister, Doris Richmond, Arnold, Mo; and 2 brothers Glenn Edwards, Perryville, MO and Willard Edwards, Gordonville, Missouri. One brother, Julian Edwards preceded her in death. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Simon A Simon officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Jerseyville Public Library.

WINKLER. Died 08-07-1983. Lee C Winkler, 95, of Hamburg, died July 8, at Calhoun Care Center, Hardin where he had resided for 6 months. Services were held at Hanks Funeral Home, Hardin with Udell Meyer officiating. Burial was in Hamburg Cemetery. He was a retired linesman for Union Electric and was born February 24, 1888 in Hamburg, son of Theodore & Julia (Beisman) Winkler. Surviving are his wife, Winifred (Cokshot) Winkler whom he married March 27, 1909; 1 daughter, Mary L Lang, Hamburg; 1 son, Paul W Winkler, Hamburg; 1 granddaughter, Carolyn Gibson and 1 g-grandson, Mark Gibson, both of Jerseyville. Masonic rites were conducted by Westgate Lodge in Hamburg of which he was a member. Memorials may be given to Hamburg Cemetery.

WINSELL. Died 06-1971. Roy Wesley Winsell of Grafton died at the home of his niece, Mrs Thomas (Evelyn) Smith of Grafton. He had been ill for some time. Funeral services were held at Burke funeral Home, Grafton with Rev Paul S Krebs, Alton officiating. Burial was in Scenic Hill Cemetery. The American Legion Post of Grafton conducted graveside military rites. He was a son of the late John Wesley & Mary Ann (Fox) Winsell, and was born in Kansas City, MO, May 5, 1892. He was the last of 9 children born to his parents and his only survivors are niece and nephews. He was a retired employee of ILL Powder Mill Company, formerly located in Jerseyville. He was a WW I Veteran and later became a member of the American Legion Grafton Post.

WINSLADE. Harold J Winslade, 77, of Brighton, died May 15, 1986, at Jersey Community hospital. Born in Brighton, son of the late Hugh & Ellen (Jones) Winslade, he married Helen (Hermes) Winslade on May 26, 1934, in Brighton. She died October 23, 1967. He was a machine repair and shipping at Owens-IL Glass Company for 37 years, retiring in 1970. Surviving are 1 daughter, Dottie Lou Austin, Brighton; 2 grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Ruth Hermes of Fidelity; and 1 brother, Charles Winslade, Brighton. Visitation was from Warner-Targhetta Funeral Home, Brighton. Services were held there with Rev Henry Lippert officiating. Burial was in Brighton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. John United Church of Christ, Brighton.

WINSLOW. Mary Winslow, 76, died October 21, 1987 at Jersey Community hospital. She was the daughter of Maude VanMeter of Alton and the late Mark VanMeter. She married Theodore Winslow in 1927, in Bloomington. He died December 9, 1983. Also surviving are 2 sons, Donald Winslow, Jerseyville, and Robert Winslow, TX; 2 daughters, Gyelia Pollard, Bunker Hill, and Joyce Broyles, Germany; 19 grandchildren and 10 g-grandchildren. WINSLOW. Died 12-1983. Theodore A Winslow, 77, died at Jersey Community hospital. Born in Bloomington, a son of the late William & Florence (Schessler) Winslow, he was retired from Olin Corp where he was a machinist. He married the former Mary Van Meter in 1927i in Jerseyville, and she survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Gyelia Pollard of Bunker Hill and Joyce Broyles of Ft McClean, AL; 2 sons, Robert Winslow, Dallas, TX and Donald Winslow, Carrollton; 17 grandchildren; 9 g-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Zella Fogler, Hayworth and Louise Knight, Pekin; and 1 brother, Harold Winslow of Monteka, CA. WINSON. Harvey E Winson, 84, died October 11, 1989, at Alton Memorial hospital. Before retiring, he was an engineer and pilot for Mississippi Lime Company, Alton. Born in Jerseyville, he was son of the late Chester & Irene (Davidson) Winson. His first wife, Prudence (Davidson) Winson, died in 1976. He married the former Opal Hamilton in January 1979, and she survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Mary Buttry, Chicago; 2 sons, Harold Winson, Havana and Gerald Winson of Wood River; 9 grandchildren; 8 g-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Zelma Paynter, Alton and Ursula Ruyle, Staunton. Visitation was at Gent Funeral Home, Alton, where services were held, with Rev John Tock officiating. Burial was in Upper Alton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Gideon Bible Soc.

WINSON. Died 1917. Narcissus, C Winson, 70, widow of William (who died May 26, 1863), died at the home of her son Elmer. They were parents of 10 children. She had 3 g-grandchildren. She was born in Greene County, February 6, 1847. Funeral at Congregational Church, Chesterfield with Rev Ellis officiating and burial was in Gelder Cemetery near Chesterfield.

WINTERS. Died 07-1967. John E Winters, 71, died as the result of fatal injuries suffered in a head on crash on Humpert Road, Alton. His wife, Mabel, was also killed. Mrs Mary V Greer and her 2 children were injured. Mr Winters was a son of the late Mr & Mrs George Winters and was born at Carrollton January 24, 1896. Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs Dorothy Kochersperger, Alton and Mrs Leroy Schmoeller, Brighton; 2 sons, Ernest, Alton and Paul E Winters, Jerseyville; 15 grandchildren; 10 g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs Mary Schrieber, Jerseyville and 1 brother, Harold Winters, Chesterfield. He was a veteran of WW I, a member of Brighton American Legion post and Veterans of WW I Barracks 98 of Alton. Joint funeral services were held at Warner Funeral Home in Brighton with Rev Opperman, pastor of First Baptist Church, Brighton officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Upper Alton.

WINTERS. Died 07-1967. Mabel Winters, 66, died as the result of injuries suffered in a head on crash on Humbert Rd, Alton. Her husband was also killed. Mrs Mary V Greer, and her 2 children, passengers of the other car were seriously injured. She was born in St. Louis October 30, 1900 daughter of the late Mr & Mrs William Lewis. She married John Winters on July 2, 1920. they established their home in rural Brighton where he was engaged in farming. Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs Dorothy Kochersperger, Alton and Mrs Leroy Schmoeller, Brighton; 2 sons, Ernest, Alton and Paul E Winters, Jerseyville; 15 grandchildren; and 10 g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs Gladys Palmer, Dow; and 2 bros, William J and Ernest Lewis, Jerseyville. She was a member of the Auxiliaries of Brighton American Legion and Alton Barracks of Veterans of WW I, the Baptist Church, Brighton and the Eastern Star. Joint services were held at Warner Funeral Home, Brighton with Rev Opperman, pastor of First Baptist Church, Brighton officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Upper Alton.

WISDOM. Died 22-11-1973. Gilford Malen Wisdom, 83, died November 22, at his home. He was born March 8, 1890 in Winchester, son of Jeph & Cora (Christison) Wisdom. He was a retired contractor. Surviving are his wife, Kathryn (Kirkpatrick) Wisdom; 7 daughters, Mrs Floyd (Irene) Hagen, Jerseyville, Mrs John (Edna) Kebes, Godfrey; Mrs Lavern (Roberta) Sandstrom, Malcom, IA, Mrs Floyd (Lois) Summers, Alton, Mrs Lillian Hay, E Alton, Mrs Ed (Vivian) Westhoff, and Miss Kathleen Wisdom, Rosewood Heights; 1 brother, Claude Wisdom, Winchester; 17 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Julia Wisdom, Winchester and Mrs Clarence Harvey, Plato. He was preceded in death by 1 son and 2 sisters.

WISDOM. Died 23-03-1983. Kathryn S Wisdom, 91, of rural Jerseyville, and widow of Gilford M Wisdom, died March 23 at Jersey Community hospital. She was born October 25, 1891 in Winchester, a daughter of Loren & Mary (Campbell) Kirkpatrick. WISDOM. Died 19-01-1983. Mabel E Wisdom, 84, of Jerseyville, died January 19 at Jersey Community hospital. She was born April 13, 1898 in Springfield, daughter of Carl & Minnie (O’Neal) Schultz. Her husband, George W Wisdom, died March 13, 1954. Surviving are 1 daughter, Aleen Bell, Jerseyville; 3 sons, Dale, Clayton, and Ray all of Jerseyville; 1 sister, Elsie Houston of Lake Land, FL; 8 grandchildren and 9 g-grandchildren. Services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Roy Woodrum officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Intensive Care Unit at Jersey Community hospital and American Cancer Soc.

WISE. Died 26-01-1981. Peter Wise, 81, of Jerseyville Care Center died January 26, at Jersey Community hospital. Graveside rites were held at Grimes Cemetery. He was born May 3, 1899 in Fairmont and was a farm laborer. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, who also resided at Jerseyville Care Center.

WISEHEART. Died 05-10-1963. Melvin E Wiseheart, 71, of Jerseyville, died October 5, at his home on Shipman St. Visitation was at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Final rites were held at First Baptist Church, with Rev Everett Chambers officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. A painter by trade, he was born April 16, 1902 in Horton, KS, a son of Mr & Mrs Alfred C Wiseheart. Survivors are his wife, Helen; 2 sons, Herbert, Glendale, MO and Paul, Willow Springs; 2 daughters, Mrs Robert (Dixie) Mowen, Jerseyville and Mrs J D (Josephine) Morris, Atlanta, GA; 13 grandchildren; and 3 g-grandchildren.

WISEMAN. Died 05-1975. Blanche Wiseman, 73, sister of the late Virginia Roady, died at the home of her daughter in Pittsfield, MA, after a lingering illness. She was born January 29, 1902 in Dow, daughter of the late Thomas & Eva (Sinclair) Cummings. She was the widow of Harold L Wiseman who died in 1949. She was a graduate of IL Norman at Bloomington and taught elementary education for 5 years. From 1925-51 she lived in Atlanta. Mrs Wiseman had served as a director for the American Red Cross in Little Rock and Ft Smith, AR and Houston, TX. She retired 3 years ago and moved to Dalton, MA. She was a member of the Dalton Methodist Church, PEO Sisterhood and Pittsfield, MA Women’s Club. She is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs Floyd (Joan) Peronto, Pittsfield, MA; 1 sister, Mrs W H (Hilda) Nicol, Ohio; 7 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 1 sister, Virginia (Cummings) Roady, and 1 brother, Howard Cummings. Visitation and services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Fr Terry Shea officiated and interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

WISEMAN. Jerseyville. Isaac Newton Wiseman, 97, of Jerseyville, died at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Green Lawn Nursing Home there. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park. Survivors include a son John Wiseman of New Westminster, Canada; a stepdaughter Mrs. Eva McCormick of Godfrey, four grandchildren, and nine great great grandchildren. (End) Young Wiseman was 26 years old and lived at Elsah until he became 21 and went to Alberta, Canada, to homestead a section of land, joining his uncle, Frank Nolan, who had already located there. Three years ago he and his uncle volunteered for over-seas service and joined the Canadian forces. Young Wiseman was a member of Elsah Camp, #4435, MWA and was in good standing at the time of his death. He was a member of Platt 12, Company C, Battalion 151, Canadian Corps. He is the first Jersey County boy to fall in the battle for the Freedom of the World. His father has written to the director of records to ascertain particulars of the young man’s death.

WITT. Died 10-1968. Rorie Elmer Witt, 80, of Jerseyville died at St. Joseph hospital, Alton where he had been a patient for 10 days. He was born in Greene County on February 18-1888, the son of George & Mary Josephine (Detchmendy) Witt. The retired farmer was a member of First Baptist Church, Jerseyville. Surviving are his wife, Addie L Witt, 1 daughter, Mrs Herschel (Doris) Cox, and 1 son, Neil Witt, of Jerseyville; 1 sister, Miss Marie Witt, Carrollton; 13 grandchildren—incomplete Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. WITT. Died 20-06-1983. Walter H Witt, 69, of Jerseyville, died June 20, at Jersey Community hospital after a long illness. He was born December 6, 1913 in Woodville, son of the late Alva H &I Mary Etta (Brannan) Witt. He was a heavy equipment operator out of Local 520, Mitchell, until retiring in 1977. Survivors are his wife, Julia Rose (Vancil) Witt whom he married July 4, 1958 in Jerseyville; 2 sons, Richard of Alton and Terry of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Ramona Abbott, Orlando, FL and Kathy Beiermann, Jerseyville; 9 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Francis Neil Witt, Eldred and Alva Boyd Witt, State of Virginia. WITT. Died 1955. William Paxton Witt Sr, 64, county superintendent of highways of Jersey County, a position he had formerly held in Greene County, died at Jersey Community hospital. He was born at Kane, September 11, 1891, the son of the late George W & Louisa Ann (Williams) Witt. He was a graduate of Carrollton high school, class of 1908 and of the University of IL, where he received a degree in civil engineering. He took a position in the bank at Kane and then engaged in farming before going into engineering and construction work. He was a member of King Solomon Lodge #197, AF & AM at Kane. Surviving are his wife, Ruth (Bush) Witt; 2 sons, George W and William P of Jerseyville; 1 daughter, Mrs Mary V Trump, Carlinville; 1 brother, Kyle Witt, Jerseyville; 4 sisters, Mrs William Davis, Kansas City, MO, Mrs S F March, Carrollton; Mrs Cletus Hays, Alton, and Mrs E I Ozbun, Kane; 5 grandchildren. Two sons, one in infancy and Paul, was killed in a hunting accident in September 1941, at the age of 14. Funeral services were held at Kane Methodist Church, Rev L E Mustain, Roxana, officiating, assisted by Rev C L Peterson. A quartet, Mrs James Allen, Mrs Frank Cummings, Mrs Kenneth Darr, and Mrs Henry Brooks sang, accompanied at the piano by Mrs Donald Crane. Pallbearers: Perry Cory, George Cory, C W Hayes, Kenneth White, Lee Witt, and Franklin March. Burial was in Jalappa Cemetery.

WITTMAN. Died 28-04-1977. John S Wittman, 79, of Godfrey, died April 28, at St. Anthony Infirmary, Alton. The retired farmer was born March 8, 1898 in Godfrey. Surviving are his widow, Mrs Lois (Frew) (Reynolds) Wittman; 3 sons, John W and Robert Wittman, Godfrey, and Richard, Titusville, FL; 2 daughters, Sister Mary Basil, Alton, and Mrs M M (Virginia) Ervin, Decatur; 25 grandchildren; 9 g-grandchildren and 1 brother, Walter Wittman, Godfrey. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie (Meyers) Wittman and 1 daughter. Funeral Mass was celebrated May 2, at St. Ambrose Church, Godfrey with burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Alton. Msgr, Knoedler, Fr Watson and Rev John Sims, of Bethel Methodist Church officiated. Memorials may be given to the Heart Fund of St. Ambrose Building Fund.

WITTMANN. Died 01-09-1951. Peter J Wittmann, 64 years, 1 month, 26 days, well known resident of Jersey County, died September 1, in St. Anthony’s Infirmary, Alton. Funeral rites were held September 5, at St. Alphonsus church, Brighton. Rev Fr Philip Newman was celebrant of the Solemn Requiem High Mass; Rev Fr Cornelius Horn, Dalton City, was Deacon, and Rev Fr Ryan Beiser, of St Ambrose College, Davenport, IA, was Sub-Deacon. Rev Fr P P Heinen, pastor of Holy Ghost Church, Jerseyville, was master of ceremonies. Pallbearers were six of his 7 sons. He had been in failing health since last Christmas and had been a patient in St. Joseph and St. Louis hospitals before entering the infirmary. Mr Wittman was son of the late Mr & Mrs Sigmund Wittman, early Jersey County settlers, and was born July 5, 1887. He was married on August 18, 1909, to Kunigunda (Wendle) Wittman at St. Michael Church, Beltrees, and all their married life had been spent on the same farm in the Godfrey vicinity. Mr Wittman had been active in church and civic projects of the community. He was a member of St. Alphonsus church, Brighton, a member of the Church Board of Trustees, and a member of Jersey County Farm Bureau. Surviving are his wife, 1 daughter, Miss Catherine Wittman, who resides at home; 7 sons, Raymong G, Norbert E, and Walter L, of Godfrey, Joseph P and Elmer W, of Alton, Carl J of Jerseyville and Leo S Wittman of Delhi; 5 sisters, Mrs Lena Bartlett, Jerseyville, Mrs Maria Klunk, Dow, Mrs John Waters, Godfrey, Mrs Minnie Wendle, Beltrees and Mrs Louis Wagonblast, Delhi; 2 bros, Walter R, Alton, and John S Wittman of Godfrey; and 17 grandchildren.

WITTMAN. Died 23-07-1978. Raymond G Wittman, 66, of Brighton, was dead on arrival at St. Joseph hospital, Alton after a traffic accident of RT 67, occurring on July 23. Born in Jersey County, he was son of the late Peter & Kundigunda Wittman and he married Beatrice (Kamp) Wittman on November 9, 1963 in Alton. Wittman retired in 1968 from Laclede Steel where he had been employed for over 40 ys. Surviving are his wife; 1 son, Harold, Godfrey; 3 grandchildren; 6 bros, Walter and Elmer “Bill”, both of Godfrey, Leo and Carl, Jerseyville, Norbert and Joseph, Alton; and 1 sister, Catherine Gray, Godfrey. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Brighton with Rev William Houran celebrant. Visitation was at Staten Funeral home, where the Rosary was recited. Burial was in Brighton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Church building fund.

WITTMAN. Died 08-04-1986. Veatrice D Wittman, 68, of Brighton died April 8, at Christian hospital NE, St. Louis Co. Born in Godfrey, daughter of the late George & Florence (Lawton) Kamp, she married Raymond Wittman, November 9, 1963, in Alton. He died July 23, 1978. She was employed at Olin Corp as a keypunch operator for 39 years, retiring in 1983. Surviving are 3 sisters, Jo Kamp, Alton, Ruth Bohn, Dow and Viola Fable, Kirkwood, MO; and 2 bros, Emery Kamp, Wood River and Bruce Jerome Kamp, Griffith, IN. Visitation was at Warner-Targhetta Funeral Home, Brighton, where Rosary was recited. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Brighton with Rev William Maul officiating. Burial was in Brighton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. Alphonsus Christian Life Center, Brighton.
