WOCK. Died 07-10-1977. Edward J Wock, 96, of Jerseyville, died October 7 at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home, Jerseyville. He was born March 29, 1891 in Jersey County, son of the late John & Theresa (Drainer) Wock. He was a self-employed truck driver and farmer. He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville and was a WW I veteran of the US Army. Surviving are 1 sister, Clara Wartman of Alabama and nieces and nephews. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville where the Rosary was recited. Funeral Mass was held October 10, at Holy Ghost Church with Msgr P P Heinen and Rev William Hembrow conducting. no cem (St Francis?)
WOCK. Died 06-07-1976. John Francis Wock Sr, 82, retired Jersey County farmer, died July 6 at Jersey Community hospital. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Francis Church with Rev R T Shea celebrant. Interment was in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. He was born November 5, 1893, in Jersey County, son of John C &I Theresa (Drainer) Wock. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier parish, Knights of Columbus and Jerseyville Senior Citizens. Surviving are his widow, Marie E (Feyerabend) Wock; 3 daughters, Mrs Dean (Mary Helen) Conrad, Alton, Mrs Russell (Maxine) Prill, Jerseyville and Mrs John (Jack) (Lois) Fessler, Godfrey; 1 son, John (Jack) Wock Jr, Jerseyville; 8 grandchildren; 4 g-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Lena Wock, Jerseyville and Mrs Clara Wartman, Eoyham, AL; 1 brother, Edward Wock, Jerseyville. His parents, 1 sister, and 2 brothers preceded him in death.
WOCK. Died 08-06-1990. Laverne Lewis Wock, 77, died June 8, 1990 at DePaul Medical Center, St. Louis. In 1975, he retired as a machine operator from Rotary Ram, Godfrey and later retired as co-owner of Wock’s New & Used Furniture, Jerseyville in 1988. Born in Otterville, he was the son of the late Paul & Louise (Kirchner) Wock. he married Catherine (Grothaus) Wock on May 6, 1936, in Jerseyville. She survives. Also surviving are 3 daughters, Betty Scott, Alton, Gayle Willis, Delhi and Pauline Daougherty, Hannibal, MO; 7 grandchildren; and 5 g-grandchildren. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with rosary recitation. Jerseyville Moose Lodge 695, of which he was a charter member, conducted graveside rites. Funeral Mass was at Holy Ghost Church, Jerseyville with Rev William Hembrow as celebrant. Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery, Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to American Heart Assoc or masses.
WOCK. Died 01-03-1980. Louesa L Wock, 92, of Jerseyville, died March 1 at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home, Jerseyville. She was born in Otterville on March 1, 1887, daughter of the late Charles H & Alvina (Hooper) Kirchner. She was the widow of Paul Wock, who died December 26, 1959. Surviving are 1 son, Laverne Wock, Jerseyville; 1 brother, Walter Kirchner, Jerseyville; 3 grandchildren and 7 g-grandchildren. Her parents, husband, 5 brothers and 1 sister preceded her in death. Visitation and services were at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Clay Noah Jr, officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to charity of choice.

WOCK. Marie Wock, 89, died February 6, 1989, at Jersey Community hospital. She was born in Jerseyville, daughter of the late Henry & Mary J (Elfgen) Feyerband. On October 29, 1920, she married John F Wock in Jerseyville. He died July 6, 1976. Surviving are 1 son, Jack Wock, Jerseyville; 3 daughters, Mary Helen Conrad, Alton, Maxine “Mickie” Prill, Jerseyville and Lois Fessler, Munster, IN; 8 grandchildren; 19 g-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Alma Habing, St. Louis and Lucille Maloney, Edwardsville; and 1 brother, Leslie Feyerband, St. Louis. Seven brothers preceded her in death. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville where a prayer service was held. Funeral Mass was held at St. Francis Church, Jerseyville with Rev Henry Schmidt, celebrant. Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. Francis School or masses.
WOCK. Paul Peter Wock, 76, retired farmer of English Township, died December 28, 1959 at Jersey Community hospital where he had been a patient for the past week. Final rites were held December 30, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Earl Dickey, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiated and interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. He was son of the late John & Theresa (Drainer) Wock and was born in Jersey County, December 18, 1883. Surviving are his wife, Louesa (Kirchner) Wock, Fieldon; 1 son, Laverne Wock, Jerseyville implement dealer; 3 granddaughters; 3 brothers, John, Edward and Louis Wock, Jerseyville; 3 sisters, Mrs Peah Jilek, and Miss Lena Wock, Jerseyville and Mrs Clara Wartman of Pompana Beach, FL.
WOELFEL. Died 08-10-1966. George William Woelfel, 63, of Jerseyville, died October 8, at Jersey Community hospital where he had been moved a few hours earlier. He had been ill for some time. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville where the rosary was recited. Funeral services were held at Holy Ghost Church with Rev Fr Paul P Heinen celebrant of Requiem Mass. Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery. He was a son of the late Fred & Elizabeth (Brinkman) Woelfel and was born in Calhoun County, March 12, 1903. He was a steamfitter by trade and was employed by Holmes & Narver Const Co. He was a member of Local 553 Plumbers & Fitters Union, Knights of Columbus, and Moose Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Rose Woelfel; 4 sons, George L, Alton, Alfred H, Richard A, and Ronald J Woelfer, Jerseyville; 1 daughter, Mrs William Simpson Jr, Jerseyville; 16 grandchildren; 1 brother, Henry Woelfel, Jerseyville; and 3 sisters, Mrs Andrew Klass, Batchtown, Mrs Josephine Droege, Peoria, and Mrs Virgil Watts, Franklin. One daughter, Elizabeth (Betty Lou) preceded him in death.
WOELFEL. Henry A “Hank” Woelfel, 79, died May 30, 1991, at his home. He was a boilermaker at Shell Oil Company, Wood River for more than 30 years, retiring in 1974. Born in Meppen, August 14, 1911, he was son of the late Fred & Elizabeth (Brinkman) Woelfel. He married Evelyn (Drage) Woelfel on June 17, 1944, in Alton. She died October 29, 1989. Surviving are 1 son, Henry William Woelfel, Mt Olive; 3 daughters, Rose Ann Reed, MT Olive, Shirley Breden, Jerseyville and Joyce Ketcherside, Corning, IA; 7 grandchildren; and 1 sister, Mary Watts, Jacksonville. Preceding him in death were 1 brother, George Woelfel; and 3 sisters, Josephine Droege, Peoria and Mrs Virgil Watts, Franklin. One daughter, Elizabeth (Betty Lou) preceded him in death.
WOLF. Died 05-04-1984. Deron L “Peggy” Wolf, 40, of St. Louis died April 5, at St. Anthony hospital, St. Louis. Funeral Mass was held At St. Catherine Laboure Church, St. Louis with burial in Resurrection Cemetery, St. Louis. Fr Joseph Wolf was celebrant. She was born December 20, 1943 in E St. Louis and was a graduate from Jersey Community High School in 1961. Her parents are Donald Schulte, Grafton and Louise Hunter, Lepine, OR. Dorothy Schulte, Grafton is her stepmother. Other survivors are 5 bros, Donald Schulte Jr, Godfrey, Gerald Schulte, Vista, CA, Mark Phillips, Salt Lake City, UT, Billy Phillips, Provo, UT, Scott Schulte, Grafton; 4 sisters, Debra Hotz and Susan Schulte, Grafton, Celine Pankratius, Atlanta, GA, and Faith Thorne, Grass Valley, CA. Memorials may be given to Kidney Foundation.
WOLFE. George H Wolfe, 87 years, 1 month, 21 days, died at his home in Jerseyville on March 18, 1921, His wife preceded him in death several years ago, and he had been cared for in his declining years by their adopted daughter, Mrs Fannie Tweedy. Funeral services were from the home on March 21. Rev Dr Arthur Mather, Kirkwood, Mo officiated and Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
WOLFE. Died 27-01-1919. Sarah Wolfe, wife of George H Wolfe, 91, one of the area’s oldest residents, died January 27, at her home. She was born in Stuben, NY, January 25 1828, daughter of Mr & Mrs Ames. In 1866, she was married there and soon moved to Jerseyville, 1870. They had celebrated their Golden Wed Annv 3 years ago. She is survived by her husband and 1 adopted daughter, Fannie (Wolfe) Tweedy, wife of Benjamin Tweedy of St. Louis; 3 bros, Charles Ames, Rome, NY, Wm and George Ames, Utica, NY. Funeral was from the home and Rev F O Wilson officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

WOMACK. Died 21-04-1986. Carol L Womack, 59, of Grafton, died April 21. She was born December 6, 1926, in Mounds to the late Fred & Mary (Caywood) Harp. She married James S Womack on December 8, 1946, in Polaski. He died December 4, 1970. She was a member of Newbern Assembly of God. Survivors include 3 sons, James Jr of Rosewood Heights, Edward Sr, Grafton and Alan, Hopewell, VA; 2 daughters, Sheila Hund, Dearborn, MI, and Nancy Spain, Odin; 1 sister, Patsy Harp, Metropolis; and 9 grandchildren. Visitation was April 23 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton, where the funeral was held April 24 with Rev William Turner officiating. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. Memorials may be given to Newbern Assembly of God Church and Grafton Volunteer Emergency Corps.
WOMACK. Died 12-1970. James S Womack, 51, of Grafton, was dead on arrival at Memorial hospital. He had been ill for some time. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev William Turner, Jerseyville, officiated and burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park. An electrician at Peavey Co. He was born At Olive Branch, February 11, 1919 son of Thomas F & Lena (Underwood) Womack. He was a WWII Veteran and Member of Grafton Whalen Post American Legion and A F G M-C I O Grain Millers. WOMACK. Died 06-1973. Lena Jane Womack, 83, of Grafton, died after a nine-month illness. She was born June 6, 1889, in KY. Her husband Thomas Womack, died in 1947. Surviving are 2 sons, Thomas & Romie, both of Grafton; 4 daughters, Mrs Gilbert (Willa) Shickling, Godfrey, Mrs Erwin (Carol) Walther, Grafton, and Mrs George (Catherine) Martin, Spanish Park, UT and Mrs James (Valadia) Mckereth, Memdenhall, PA; 20 grandchildren; 22 g-grandchildren and 2 sisters, Mrs Lela Pierson and Mrs Floella Holmes, both of Jackson, MI. Funeral services were from Faith Lutheran Church by Rev Fred Giraud. Burial was in Scenic Hill Cemetery. Visitation was at Gent Funeral Home.
WOMACK. Died 04-1984. Thomas F Womack, 69, died at St. Joseph hospital. Born in IL. son of the late Thomas F Womack Sr, & Lena Jane (Underwood) Womack, he was a construction worker and Member of Operating Engineers Local # 520. He married Muriel (Harp) Womack and she died March 31, 1969. In Nov, 1971, he married Barbara (Lemons) Womack and she survives. She lives in Grafton. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Mary Jo Holland, Alton; 3 sons, Thomas L, Jerseyville, Robert E Sr, Grafton and David M, Godfrey; 2 stepsons, Rodney Roentz, Grafton and Gene Roentz, Alton; 17 grandchildren; 4 g-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Catherine Martin, Spanish Forks, UT, Valadia Mackereth, Menden Hall, PA, Willa Schickling, Prescott, WI and Carol Walther, Grafton; and 1 brother, Romie Womack, Grafton. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton where services were conducted with Rev James Drysdale officiating. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park.
WOMACK. Died 31-03-1947. Thomas Franklin Womack, 78, of Grafton, died March 31, at his home. He was the son of the late Francis & Martha (Johnson) Womack and was born at Covington, GA on March 21, 1869. He was Superintendent of Equitable Power Company charcoal Kilns until they ceased to operate. He operated a dairy farm until 1940 when his health forced him to retire. Surviving are his wife, Lena Womack, 4 sons, Thomas, James and Romie of Grafton and Frank, Borden Springs, A?; 4 daughters, Mrs Geo Martin, Spanish Forks, UT, Mrs James Mckereth, Menden Hall, PA, Willa Lee and Carol Womack, Grafton; 13 grandchildren and1 g-grandchild. Funeral services were at Assembly of God Church with Rev Howard Wicker officiating. Interment was in the American Legion Cemetery.
WOOD. Died 10-1918 Marcus Wood, 18, youngest son of Mrs Jennie Wood, and the late George Wood, of Jerseyville. In April 1917, he left high school and volunteered for military service. Word was received here by Justice W S Van Pelt thru an article quoted from La Estrella de Panama, Spanish-English newspaper published in Colon. The article stated Pvt Wood died of flu, it was later learned that appendicitis was the cause of death. He was accepted as a musician, as his youth was a handicap in volunteering for service on the front. He was sent to Panama and was in the regimental band for a time before being transferred to regular duty in Coast Artillery Corps. His eldest brother, Scott, had been in service in France in the thick of the fight. Glenn Wood, also in France in the thick of the battle. Glenn Wood is also in France as a member of a medical detachment. In Field Artillery. One Sister.
WOOD. Died 05-08-1971. Sarah Virginia “Jennie” Wood, 94, former resident of Jerseyville, died August 5, in Sarasota, FL, where she had resided for 15 years. Following cremation in Sarasota, her ashes are to be returned here for burial. She was born April 25-1877, in Jerseyville, daughter of the late Justice Winfield Scott & Sarah Alice (Burch) (Van Pelt). Her husband was the late George Wood. She is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs Fred Jacobs, Sarasota, FL, formerly of Jerseyville; 1 son, Max P Wood, Pennsauken, NJ; 7 grandchildren; 14 g-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Mrs Leonard (Lenore) Glassbrenner, Plainview.
WOOD. Died 09-09-1906. Thomas Wood, 40, died at his home in E ST Louis, after a short illness of heart trouble. The former Jerseyville resident was brought to Jerseyville and funeral was from Bethel Baptist Church on September 11, Rev Wm Gaither serving. He leaves his wife and 3 children.
WOODBURY. Died 12-07-1942. Sade B Woodbury, 76 years, 1 month, 1 day, one of the older residents of Jerseyville, died at her home here on July 12, following a week’s illness. The deceased was the daughter of the late Charles N & Nancy (Bell) Adams, and was born in Jersey County, June 11, 1866. Her husband, Robert Woodbury, and 1 daughter, Lotus Bell, preceded her in death. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church, July 15, with Rev M C Foltz of Jerseyville and Rev W L Hanbaum, Alton officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
WOODLOCK. Died 01-01-1952. Sarah Woodlock, 68, of Venice, died suddenly at her home on New Year’s Day from a heart ailment. She was daughter of the late Alexander & Mary Wooden and was born in Jerseyville. Mrs Woodlock, resided in Jerseyville until about 20, when she went to St. Louis to make her home. Surviving are her brother, S A Wooden attended the funeral of his sister at Madison, IL; and 1 sister, Mrs Corine Wiseman, St. Louis. Funeral services were held in Madison, and burial was in St. John Cemetery, Granite City.
WOODRING. Frances Mae Woodring, 72, died unexpectedly December 30, 1990, at Jersey Community hospital. She retired as a cook from Green Lawn Nursing Home, Jerseyville. Born in Kane, she was the daughter of the late William Edward & Beulah Mae (Osbun) Estes. On April 11, 1935, in Hardin, she married Odie G Woodring. He died November 26, 1981. Surviving are 2 sons, Marline Eugene Woodring, Jerseyville and Samuel Franklin Woodring, Medora; 5 daughters, Gwen Calvert, Janet Delores Gettings and Barbara Kay Cain, all of Jerseyville, Phylis Vinyard, Roodhouse and Carolyn Sue Glass, Wood River; 22 grandchildren; 30 g-grandchildren; 2 bros, Donald Eugene Estes, Henderson, NV and Thomas Isaac Estes, Jerseyville; and 2 sisters, Mary Lea Buhs, Charlotte, MI and Henrietta Dorsey, Moro; and 1 half sister, Betty Singleton, Yelma, Wash. Visitation was from Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home with services there on Thursday. Rev Wilbur Cain officiated. Burial was in Kane Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Kane Methodist Church.
WOODRING. Died 26-11-1981. Odie G Woodring, 68, of Jerseyville, died November 26, at St. Joseph hospital. The WW II Navy Veteran was born June 21, 1913 in Ky, a son of John & Stella (Burklow) Woodring. He was a furnace operator at Olin where he retired in 1975. He is survived by his wife, Frances (Estes) Woodring, whom he married April 11, 1935 in Hardin; 2 sons, Marlin, Jerseyville and Samuel, Medora; 5 daughters, Gwen Calvert, Janet Gettings and Barbara Cain, Jerseyville; Phyliss Vinyard, Roodhouse and Susie Glass, Wood River; 24 grandchildren; 6 g-grandchildren; 2 bros, Lynn Ray Woodring, Henderson, KY and Charles Woodring, Louisville, Ky.
WOODROW. Died 07-1970. Frank C Woodrow, 80, of Jerseyville, died at his residence last Wed. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev M Edwards Breed, pastor of First United Presbyterian Church officiated. Interment was in Valhalla Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. The WW I Veteran and retired merchant was born January 14, 1890 in New Haven, CT. He was the son of the late Samuel & Minnie (Clough) Woodrow. The Woodrow family moved to Jerseyville area in 1935 where he at one time was owner of the Western Auto Store. He managed the Chautauqua Resort for many years and spent winters in CA. Mr & Mrs Woodrow moved back to Jerseyville 7 years ago. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife, Hazel (Caulfield) Woodrow; 2 daughters, Mrs John C (Christine) Watt, Lakewood, CO, and Mrs Robert J (Frances) Donald, Little Rock, AR; 4 grandchildren and 1 g-grandson. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Rev James Remington officiated and burial was in Valhalla Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. She was born in St. Louis on September 18, 1893, daughter of William & Edith (Hinman) Caulfield. She married Frank C Woodrow June 28, 1919j; he died July 26, 1970. Surviving are 2 daughters, Edith W Watt, Lakewood, CA and Frances W Donald, Little Rock, AR; 4 grandchildren and 3 g-grandchildren. Her husband, parents and 1 brother preceded her in death. Memorials may be given to charity of choice.

WOODRUFF. Died 25-07-1892. Elizabeth Woodruff, 55, died at her home in Jerseyville. She married Geo H Woodruff in January 0f 1861. She was born in Newark, NJ March 20, 1837. Surviving are her husband; 3 sons, Ezra, Charlie, and George; 3 daughters, Almira, Katie and Martha. One child (of the 6) preceded her in death. Funeral was from Baptist Church with Rev J J Potter officiating.
WOODS. Died 03-1905. Catherine Woods, 88, died at her home near Kane. Funeral by Rev I D Crawford of Baptist church, Kane. Burial was in Woodville Cemetery. She had resided with her son Henry. He survives.
WOODS. Delores Regina Woods, 47, was born August 21, 1927, in Alton, daughter of the late Herbert & Clara Mae (Breitweiser) Woods. She died October 16, at Fayette County hospital, Vandalia. Surviving are 1 brother, Archie L Woods, Abilene, TX, 1 half brother, Marion Breitweiser, AZ, and 1 aunt, Nellie Bradshaw, Alton. Funeral services were held October 19 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev R E George officiated and burial was in Delhi Cemetery.
WOODS. Fletcher Woods, 26, died in Jerseyville, May 15, 1886. He lived 11 m NE of Jerseyville. Funeral from Presbyterian Church.
WOODS. Died 11-1912. George Woods, died Saturday at his home in the West part of town after a long illness. Mr Woods has survived as mail clerk on the C & A Railroad between St. Louis and Kansas City for 22 years. Funeral services were conducted from First Methodist Church with Rev E T Carroll officiating. Services were in charge of Hickory Grove Camp, #442, M W A. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

He came to Greene County, IL with his parents at 5 years of age, moved to Jersey County when 6. He married Mary Jane (Hunter) October 1892. Parents of 5 children, 1 son, died at the age of 5. Funeral from home. Rev T J Roady of Kane officiated. Burial in Pruitt Cemetery. Pallbearers: Charles Cooper, C G Roady, Payton Owens, Charles Nevius, Thomas Day and John Roady.
WOODS. Died 06-10-1989. John Andrew Woods, 77, died October 6, 1989 at Alton Memorial hospital. He worked in the compound house at Shell Oil Company, Wood River for 34 years, retiring in 1971. Born in Delhi, he was son of the late Andrew Cleveland & Nellie Elizabeth (Breitweiser) Woods. On April 2, 1938, in St. Charles, MO, he married Delaine (Jarrett) Woods. She died in July 1985. Surviving are 1 daughter, LaQueta Stoner, Brighton; 4 grandchildren and 6 g-grandchildren. Visitation was at Marks Mortuary, Wood River. Rev Ronald Burcham officiated. Burial was in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens, Bethalto.
WOODS. Died 15-11-1977. Lillie Mae Woods, 70, of Godfrey, died November 15 at Alton Memorial hospital. She was born in Jersey County, June 23, 1907, daughter of William & Celia (Strait) Woods. She had lived in Jerseyville most of her life before moving to Alton to Alton 7 years ago. She is survived by 3 sisters, Mrs Jennie Seehausen, Hartford, Mrs Daisy Belangee, Alton and Mrs Nellie Smithee, Godfrey. Services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. WOODS. Died 25-12-1966. Lloyd S Woods, 71 years, 3 months, 23 days, a retired farmer of the Piasa vicinity, died Christmas Day at Jersey Community hospital where he had been a patient for 1 day. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Fr P P Heinen pastor of Holy Ghost Church, officiated. At St. Francis Cemetery, services were held by Worthey Post #492 American Legion. Mr Woods was a son of the late John & Jane (Hunter) Woods and was born at Fidelity on September 2, 1895. He was a veteran of WW I. Surviving are his daughter, Mrs Walter F (Helen) Egelhoff, Piasa, and 2 Grandsons, William (Bill) Egelhoff, of the armed forces on duty in Holland, and Michael “Mike” Egelhoff, Piasa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie (Powers) Woods, and 2 sons, Floyd and Lloyd. He was a member of Worthy Post American Legion, WW I Barracks and Eagles Lodge.

His parents and 1 sister preceded him in death.
WOODS. Died 18-08-1957. Nellie M Woods, 65 years, 1 month, 2 days, died Aug, 18, at the home of her son-in-law, Walter Egelhoff, Piasa, with whom she had resided for an extended period. She was born in Jersey County, July 16, 1892, daughter of the late Thomas & Mary (O’Farrel) Powers. Surviving are her husband, Lloyd, 1 daughter, Helen (Woods) Egelhoff; 2 grandchildren; and 1 brother Peter Powers, Jerseyville. Two sons, Lloyd & Floyd preceded her in death. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at St. Francis Church, Jerseyville, August 21. Fr Frank O’Hara, Shipman was celebrant of the Requiem Mass and burial was in St. Francis Cemetery.

WOODSON. Addie R Woodson, 81, of E Alton, died April 21, 1988 at St. Joseph hospital, Alton, following a lengthy illness. She retired from Luer Brothers Packing Company, Alton. Born in Jersey County, she was daughter of the late William C & Letitia (Gilmore) Vanausdoll. She married Benjamin Woodson December 11, 1949, in Union, KY. He died in 1960. Surviving are 3 grandchildren Roger Werts, E Alton, and Terry Halbach, Arkansas City, KS, and Linda Hansen, Portage, IN, both formerly of Alton area; 5 g-grandchildren and 1 g-g-grandchild. She was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Marcella Werts; 5 sisters and 4 brothers. Visitation was at – incomplete.

Mrs Wooley was born in St. Louis, daughter of the late John &I Mildred Jenella (Cody) and was a clerk at Famous-Barr at Alton Square. Born in Jersey County, he was a son of the late Myles & Edith (Dare) Woolsey. WOOLSEY. Doris Mae Woolsey, 68, died June 22, 1992, at St. Anthony hospital, Alton. Born December 26, 1923, at Fieldon, she was daughter of the late Oliver & Margaret (Kirchner) Ferguson. She and Robert E Woolsey were married in Jerseyville on December 20, 1941. Surviving are her husband; 4 daughters, Bobbie Bechtold, Godfrey, Betty Walsh, E Alton, Vicki Unverzagt, Brighton, and Debbie Kyle, Jerseyville; 2 sons, Jim Woolsey, Brighton and Jeff Woolsey, Jerseyville; 14 grandchildren; 1 sister, Dorothy Fischer, Phoenix, AZ; and 1 brother, Oliver “Bud” Ferguson, Grafton. No Visitation was scheduled. Memorial services we at Agape Christian Fellowship, Godfrey, where she was a member. Rev David Buesinger officiated. Burial was at a later date. WOOLSEY. Died 30-01-1985. E D “Bill” Woolsey, 74, of Tulsa, OK, a native of Kane, died January 30, at St. Francis hospital, Tulsa, OK. He was born November 13, 1911 in Kane son of the late Willaim Benjamin & Anna (Allen) Woolsey. He was a WW II Veteran of the US Navy. He went to Oklahoma to attend college and remained. He was employed for Sears-Roebuck for 10 years before joining Otasco. He retired from Otasco after 30 years, where he had been a credit supervisor. Surviving are his wife, Mary (Creach) Woolsey, Tulsa, 1 son, Stephen Woolsey, Morris, OK; 4 daughters, Sue Ann Shaddy, Patty Frakes, Joannie Sibole and Barbar Woolsey, all of Tulsa and 4 grandchildren.
WOOLSEY. Died 15-03-1965. Edgar Earl “Hack” Woolsey, 61 years, 3 months, 7 days, of Las Cruces, NM, former Mayor of Jerseyville (1947-51), died March 15, at Memorial General hospital, Las Cruces. He had submitted to surgery in January and had been a patient only since Saturday. The body arrived at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville where arrangements were incomplete. He was son of John Woolsey, Jerseyville and the late Jennie (Eastham) Woolsey and was born in Fidelity December 8, 1903. He had been a resident of Jerseyville most of his life and as a young man was employed at the Shoe Factory. He had hauled mail for the railroad companies in Alton and Jerseyville. While residing here Mr Woolsey was an active member of the Elks Lodge. Mr & Mrs Woolsey had resided in Las Cruces for several years, where he managed a trailer court. Surviving are his wife, Stella Woolsey, and 1 stepdau, Mrs Thomas F Tucker Jr, of Las Cruces, his father, John Woolsey, 1 sister, Mrs Clifford Alexander, and 3 bros, Paul, Russell and Clifton Woolsey.

She was born in Jersey County, daughter of the late George L & Minnie (Hutchinson) Stoeckel. She was employed in the metallic Loading division at Olin Corp for 25 years, retiring in 1967. Surviving are 6 sons Harry Nelson JR, Wood River, William Woolsey, E Alton, Francis Woolsey, Alton, Gerald Woolsey of Marissa and Donald and David Woolsey, both of S Roxana; 3 daughters, Doris Jouett, Godfrey, Loretta Jones, Bethalto and Jo Ann Simpson, Plainview; 16 grandchildren; 12 g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Minnie Davis, Piasa; and 1 half brother, William Pope, Medora. She was a charter member of Eagles Aux #254, Alton. Visitation was at Marks Mortuary, Wood River. The Wood River Order of Eastern Star conducted services at the funeral home. The retired section hand, was born in Jersey County, March 26, 1874, a son of the late James D &I Mary (Baugh) Woolsey. He was son of the late Amos & Alice (Farmer) Woolsey and was born in Jersey County on July 22, 1878. He was an honorary member of the Local Eagles Lodge. He was born in Jersey County, son of the late Steven & Eva (Hutchens) Woolsey. He married Edith (Dwyer) Woolsey, September 21, 1969, in Jersey County, and she survives. Also surviving are 2 sons, Rodney W Woolsey, Jerseyville and Arbie D Woolsey, Yucaipa, CA; 2 daughters, Eva Sharol Backeus and Sandra K Stanley, both of Bellville; 2 stepsons, Harold Tucker, Ft Madison, WI, and Clifford A Tucker, Jerseyville; 2 stepdau, Phyllis Frazier, Jerseyville; 16 grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; and many g-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 stepson, Reginald D Tucker, 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Her brother, J W Fitzgerald, had returned from a visit with her about 2 weeks ago.

Surviving is are 2 sons Albert Woolsey and Joseph Woolsey, Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Mrs C W Yocum, Fenton, Missouri, and Mrs Loren Holtman, Trenton, Tn; 7 grandchildren; 12 g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs Sina Bruns, Alton, and 2 bros, Joseph Foster and William Foster, both of Jerseyville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Woolsey.

WOOLSEY. Died 07-02-1989. Pearl O Woolsey, 79, died February 7, 1989, at his residence, following a lengthy illness. He had been employed 42 years at Laclede Steel Company, Alton, retiring in 1971. Born in Greene County, he was the son of the late George O & Ella Mae (Bennet) Woolsey. He married Grace (Levi) Woolsey July 4, 1936, in Alton. Surviving are his wife; 1 daughter, Lela Mae King, Jerseyville; 2 grandsons; 7 g-grandchildren; 1 brother, George Woolsey, Kane; and 3 sisters, Irene Martin, Carrollton, Laura Lee Greene and Eunice Long both of Jerseyville. Preceding him in death were 1 son, Harold Melvin Woolsey; 1 daughter, Ella Marie Woolsey; and 5 brothers. Visitation was at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Revs Kenneth Spires and George Bell officiated. Burial was in Kane Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Wood River Tws hospital Hospice Unit.
WOOLSEY. Died 18-11-1889. Percilla Ann Woolsey, was born in Onodaga County, NY June 11, 1811. She married J B Woolsey May 14, 1831 and moved to IL in 1833. She had been a widow since January 1, 1881. Surviving are 5 sons, 2 sisters, Mrs Edwin Woolsey, and Mrs Johathan Stark, both of Greenfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, 1 son; and 2 daus who died in infancy. Born in Carrollton March 28, 1928, she was daughter of William & Sophia (Holmes) Schroeder and had been a secretary at the House of Flowers. She is survived by 4 sons, Richard, Delhi, Don, Jerseyville, Michael of Hardin and Terry, Ft Campbell, KY; 2 daughters, Connie, St. Louis and Deann, Jerseyville; 2 grandchildren; 3 bros, Chris Schroeder, Alton, John Schroeder, Aberdeen, SD and Charles Schroeder, Lindsey, OH; 3 sisters, Ethel Bruns, White Hall, Louise Stone, Springfield and Teresa Vahle, Godfery. The former Jerseyville resident, was born in Jerseyville, son of the late Steven & Eva (Hutchens) Woolsey. He married Hazel (Young) Woolsey, and was a painter by trade. Surviving is are his wife; 2 bros, Amos and Lester, both of Jerseyville; and 3 sisters, Alice Balcom and Mae Young, both of Jerseyville and Juanitaa Beckerman, St. Louis. Services were held at United Methodist Church with Rev R E George officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. He was born March 5, 1824 in Jerseyville, son of the late Edward & Mary Elizabeth (Foster) Woolsey. He was a WW II Veteran, and a member of the American Legion and VFW. He was employed as custodian at Community Unit 100 School Dist. Surviving are his wife, Shirley (Fredenburg) Woolsey whom he married February 6, 1944; 1 son, Gregg; 2 daughters, Connie Loy and Linda Howland, all of Jerseyville; 1 brother, Joseph Woolsey, Jerseyville; 2 sisters, Mildred Yocom, House Springs, Mo and Josephine Holtman of Indianapolis, IN; and 3 grandchildren. He was a farmer. Rev Carlton Christinson officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. The retired farmer was born October 25, 1888 in Wrights, son of Malcolm & Sara (Brock) Worley. He had lived in the Kane area for many years before moving to Jerseyville. Mr Worley had worked at the Jersey Theatre at one time. WORSHAM. Ora C Worsham, 80, Jerseyville barber for over 50 years, died February 22, 1983 at Deconess hospital, St. Louis where he had been a patient for several weeks. Services were held at First Baptist Church by Rev V Clay Noah. He was born September 11, 1902 in Moweaqua and was owner of Worsham Barber Shop. His wife, Charlotte (Wood) Worsham, died November 2, 1978. Surviving are 1 daughter, Betty Dirks, Bryan, TX; 1 son, Charles Worsham, Jerseyville; 7 grandchildren and 9 g-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Wave Worsham of Moweaqua. He was a member of First Baptist Church and Jerseyville Elks Lodge. Burial was in Carrollton City Cemetery. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Dicie WORTHY, died, on August 22d, 1882, aged 85 years, she was never sick until her last illness, but had been for many years partially or quite blind. She received every attention that a loving and dutiful son, Mr. Absolem Worthy could give her. The funeral was largely attended considering the excessive [sic] heat. WORTHEY. Died 12-12-1978. Josephine A Worthey, 73, of Flossmoor, widow of former local resident, died December 12, at St. James hospital, Flossmoor. Wake service was held at Condt-Ryan Funeral Home in Homewood and graveside services were at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield on December 15. She was widow of William Worthey and was born in Chicago March 19, 1905. She is survived by 1 daughter, Mary Joe Warren of North Haven, CT.

The funeral took place at the Second Presbyterian church in this city, Monday June 13, at 3:00 oclock, Rev. J. W. Stark, officiating. WRIGHT. Civil War Veteran Dies. Alfred Gillman Wright, Civil War veteran, dies at his home in Grafton Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The deceased was 86 years old 9 months and 27 days old. He was born December 13, 1966 to Thomas & Marilyn (Beasley) Wright in Jerseyville. WURTH. Died 26-03-1896. Michael Wurth, 81, died at his home on March 26, 1896. He was a native of Baden, Germany and served in the German army for 13 years. He came to the USA, located in New Orleans until 1858, when he came to Jerseyville. Funeral from Holy Ghost Church, Rev Marks.
WURTH. Died 01-1909. Wm Wurth, was born in Baden, Germany in 1846 and came to the USA when a small boy. In 1864, he enlisted in Company C 30th IL Von Infantry. He was discharged in 1865. He married Emma (Goeman) Wurth on May 15, 1878 at Fieldon. He leaves his mother; his wife; 3 daughters, Mrs John Bursn, Gussie and Clara Wurth; 1 son, Henry; 3 grandchildren and 1 brother. He helped to save the country and the flag. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Rev Catt officiating.

WYCKOFF. Miss Elizabeth Wyckoff, daughter of the late Mr & Mrs Spencer Wyckoff was born in Jersey Co. Her parents were from the Delhi area. She was an early graduate of the Montessori system and taught the method in California. Word was received here by Mrs Frank Fulkerson that Miss Wyckoff had taken ill and was able to call her brother, and he summoned the Dr. Her death occurred 20 min after the arrival of the Dr. She died August 22, 1953 at her home in Pasadena, Ca.

On October 31, 1866 to Horatio N Wyckoff. Surviving are 3 daughters, Mrs R E Cockrell, Sellars, LA, Miss Nelle Wyckoff, Alton, and Miss Mary A Wyckoff, Jerseyville; 1 son, David A Wyckoff, Alton; 4 grandchildren: Helen Wyckoff, Edward Horatio, and Rogers L Wyckoff and Robert Cockrell. Preceding her in death were her husband, and 1 daughter, Julia. Funeral from Presbyterian Church with Rev J S Farrill officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
WYCKOFF. Died 10-1851. Mrs Phoebe E Wyckoff, 36 wife of David G Wyckoff, formerly of New York. She left her husband and a large family of children.
Ambrose Spencer WYCKOFF was born in Schoharie County, New York, on the 27th day of May, 1806 and on Saturday the 28th of September, 1872, he fell dead from his chair, of heart disease, being in his 67th year. He emigrated to the country, from New York City, in the fall of 1832, and so won the confidence of the community as to be chosen to fill the honorable position of Judge of this county for several years – I say honorable – for it was a time when the people would not countenance men in office who were not honest and honorable men. He was a man of very noble impulses and of tender sympathies, and while providing well for his own family, never forgot the poor and in distributing charities to the unfortunate he seemed to realize in his heart the sentiment of the Psalmist, “Blessed is he that considereth the poor.” He lived to an honorable old age, his feet just taking hold upon the threshold of three-score years and ten, the full measure alotted to man upon earth.
He seemed to have a premonition that his days were numbered, and so made preparation for death, both in temporal matters, and it is to be hoped also in spiritual concerns. He felt that at any time, from the complicated nature of his disease, he might be called away, and so he had thought frequently and seriously of death. He not only thought of it, but felt the solemn reality of the judgment day, and would at times speak to his wife and say: “All I can do is to put my trust in God.”
His complaint, asthma and heart disease, brought upon him great suffering, which by the help of the soothing and patient attention of a faithful and beloved wife, he bore with great resignation and without a murmur. But with him, sufferings are over. He is gone – his body to the grave, and his spirit to God who gave it, and who, in the presence of such awful solemnity, can take such language thoughtlessly upon his lips: “For God will bring every work into judgment with every secret thing, whether it be good or evil.” But how heavy must be the night of sorrow upon the heart of those who are so unexpectedly called to mourn the loss of a husband and father! Seek not to compass the end of suffering in this life. Look beyond, to the land without a storm, and comfort one another with these words of Jesus: “I am the resurrection and the life,he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.” – W. David Gray WYCKOFF, Nov. 20, 1892. David Gray Wyckoff was born Schoharie County, New York, on May 5, 1812. At the age of twelve he went to New York City and learned the tailor’s trade. When he was twenty one years of age he married Phebe Eliza Bonnell, sister of David T. Bonnell, then residing in Newark, New Jersey.
In 1837 they came to Illinois and settled in what is now Jersey County, then part of Greene County and located at Delhi, where he followed his trade until about 1840 when he came to Jerseyville and opened a shop where he carried on merchant tailoring. In 1849 he opened a general mercantile business, having taken John E. Rundle in as a partner. In 1850 he purchased Rundle‘s interest and continued the business till October 1865 when he formed a partnership with his son Horatio N. Wyckoff, and under the firm name of D.G. & H. N. Wyckoff the business was carried on till his death last Sunday. November 20, 1892 Mr. Wyckoff kept a general merchandising store till 1861 when he dropped the grocery portion and dealt only in dry goods, boots and shoes and notions. The building which he occupied for years was on the site of that now occupied by H. Scheffer & Sons and the present building is the third one erected on that site. In 1885 the building now occupied by them was erected. Mrs. Wyckoff died in 1851 leaving six children only three of whom are now living, Horatio N., Mrs. Cornelia Shepard and Mrs.Frances Brownlee. Children – Catherine- Mary & George E. passed away before her death. Mr. Wyckoff has been in failing health for the past year but was able to be at the store part of the time until the past two months. He died of general debility caused by old age, being 80 years , 6 months and 25 days. His death was sudden although not unexpected, but was evidently hastened by the death of his granddaughter, Miss Lucy Brownlee who he dearly loved. Mr. Wyckoff was one of the best citizens Jerseyville ever had. Quiet, unassuming, he went through life without making enemies and was noted for his strict honesty and integrity. What David G. Wyckoff said was true was truth either in public affairs or in his dealings in mercantile life. The funeral took place Monday afternoon from the house and was largely attended by relatives and friends, the merchants closing their stores till after the funeral. Submitted by Mary Cockrell Shipe.
WYLDR. Died 28-04-1956. Fred Wylder, 72 years, 3 mo, 26 days, a native of Greene County, died April 28, at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr & Mrs Walter T Greer in Elsah. He had been ill for some time. He was born near Greenfield, January 2, 1884, son of the late Worth & Temperance Faith Wylder. He is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs Geer in whose home his death occurred – incomplete.
WYLDER. Isabell Wylder, 78, died July 24, 1916. She was born in Jersey County February 14, 1838, daughter of John & Jamimah Reddish. She belonged to Pleasant Hill Christian Church. She married J R M Wylder in 1854 and she remained his devoted wife through that awful Rebellion period – – – seeing him shoulder his musket and enlist to help save our nation. She like so many true mothers and wives remained behind, working, hoping, watching and praying for a “brighter day”. During this awful anxious period she was cheered with the news her husband had been promoted to be 2nd LT in his regiment. During their married life they were parents of 6 children. Surviving are Thomas C H Wylder, Jerseyville and Mrs James Driskell, Litchfield, IL. Preceding her in death were her husband and 4 children; 2 sisters, Mrs Lucy Wylder, Columbus, Dakota and Mrs Hester Seago, Fieldon, IL; 1 grandson, 4 granddau; 8 g-grandchildren. She had raised Robert Irwin and Maggie Williams, now wife of Dr Irwin of Medora. Funeral services were held at Presbyterian Church with Rev Jos Jenkins, Rev Wm Rhoads and Rev W S Neely officiating and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
WYLDER. Died 27-02-1978. Miss Isabella Wylder, 82, died at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home February 27. The native of Jerseyville had lived in St. Louis where she was a receptionist at St. Louis County hospital for many years. She was born September 29, 1892 in Jersey County, daughter of the late Thomas C & Lucy (Mains) Wylder. She had relatives in this area including nieces and nephews. She donated her body to the Washington University School of Science. Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville was in charge of arrangements.
WYLDER. Died 03-11-1969. R M (Bob) Wylder, retired banker and native of Jerseyville, died suddenly November 3 at his home in Morrison, IL. Final rites were conducted at the Presbyterian Church of Morrison with Rev E J Blair officiating. Burial was in Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison. He was a son of the late Mr & Mrs T C H Wylder, and was born in Jerseyville May 10, 1897. He started his banking career here with Jersey State Bank about 1915, and later was employed at State Bank, Jerseyville before joining the IL State Banking Dept as an examiner in 1920. He was transferred to Princeton in 1927 and from there to Geneva in 1930 to become chief examiner of the northern division of the office of State Auditor of Public Accounts. Mr Wylder resigned his position with the state May 1, 1933 to become executive vice-pres of Smith Trust & Savings Bank, Morrison and continued with the institution until January 1966 when he retired as an executive but continued as trust officer until his death. Mr Wylder was a Master Mason and a member of the Presbyterian Church. He was married in Jerseyville January 17, 1917 to Blanche (Coulthard) Wylder. Surviving are his wife; 1 daughter, Mrs J Harold (Ruth) Schulta, Robbinsdale, MN; 2 sons, Dr Delbert E Wylder, Marshall, MN and Jack Wylder, Morrison; 9 grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Mrs Elizabeth Heneghan, Decatur and Miss Isabella Wylder of Richmond Hts, MO. Those attending were: Mr & Mrs Stuart E Yocom and Mr & Mrs Lee Nail, Jerseyville, Mrs Robet McPheron, Bergenfield, NJ, Mr & Mrs Richard Heneghan and Mrs Floyd Gaufoot, Decatur, and Mrs Lucille (Mains) Robinson, Davenport, IA.
WYLDER. Died 23-04-1914. Miss Samantha Wylder, 56 years, 2 months, 7 days, was relieved from her suffering at Jacksonville hospital April 23, 1914. She was a native of Jersey County, and daughter of Robert & Isabelle Wylder on January 28, 1858. She made her home with her sister, Mrs Ollie Kriskoll of Barnett, and was paralyzed for quite a number of years, the affliction had also enshrouded the declining years of her mother. Funeral services were conducted by Rev J R Reynolds at the Jerseyville Baptist Church. Surviving are her mother, 2 brothers, Thomas Wylder, Jerseyville and 1 sister, Mrs Kriskoll, Barnett.
WYLDER. Died 02-1908. William Jasper Wylder, 76 years, 10 months, 18 days, prominent resident of Morgan County, Passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs Thomas Paschall at Chapin. He was the son of Wiley & Temperance Wylder and was born in Greene County March 4, 1833. He spent his boyhood near Greenfield. On January 29, 1853, he married Willmotte (Jones) Wylder, their only child was Mrs Anna Paschaall of Chapin. He was reared in the Methodist Episcopal Church, and after reaching manhood united with the Christian Church of which he was still a member at his death. He came to Morgan County in 1857, and settled on a farm near Markham, where he resided until 1871, when he moved to his new, modern house on or near the old home. His wife died March 4, 1965, from which time he had lived with his daughter. In his later years, he took much interest in the new Church in Chapin and through his efforts and contributions, it was finished. In Politics he was a life-long Republican and had voted for Fremont in 1856. His illness was as a result of 2 strokes the last having been on January 10. He was the last of a family of 11 children, 7 sons and 4 daus. He was an uncle of Rev J L Wylder, Jacksonville.
WYNOTT. Died 1914. Mrs Mary C Wynott, 69, died at Mullanphy hospital, St. Louis. Her remains were brought to the home of her daughter, Mrs Clarence Perdun, Jerseyville. Rev J R Reynolds conducted services at Baptist Church and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
