TICE. Died 11-12-1990. Leta M. Tice, 97, died at 10 am Tuesday, December 11, 1990, at Jersey Community hospital. Born in Jersey County, she was the daughter of the Late Platte & Mary Alice (McMichael) Sanders. Her husband, John Tice, died in 1955. Surviving are a daughter, June Korte of Alton; 3 grandchildren; and 3 g-grandchildren. Graveside rites will be held at 1 pm Thursday at Oakwood cemetery in Greenfield with the Rev. Steven Mayes officiating. Targhetta Funeral Home of Medora is in charge of arrangements.
TIDBALL. Died 1911. Dr. Jaspar Tidball, physician, practicing for 30 years in Grafton, died at home in Pacific Beach, California.
TIEMANN. Died 1927. Mrs. M. A. Gillespie went to St. Louis Wednesday, being called there by the death of her sister, Mrs. George Tiemann, 53, which occurred Tuesday am in that city. Mrs Tiemann, had been in ill health for the past year, being confined to her bed for about 2 months. Surviving her are her husband and 3 children. George Rich of this city is a brother and Mrs. T. J. Cotney of Alton is a sister. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 pm from the Peetz Funeral Home at Lafayette Avenue and Longfellow Blvd. Interment will be in Sunset Burial Park, St. Louis.
TIERNEY. Alton Evening Telegraph, Aug. 29, 1939. Mrs. Grace Tierney, widow of Mark Tierney, died Monday at her residence, 419 Alby street, at the age of 60. She had been in failing health for a year. She had resided in Alton for 29 years, coming here with her father and children after the death of her husband. She had kept house for her father and reared her children in his home. She is survived by two sons, Daniel or Alton, and Edward of Joliet; two daughters, Mrs. Charles Peters and Mrs. Zeddie King, St. Louis, and eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m., at Bauer & Hoehn funeral home. After services here the body will be taken to Jersey County for interment in Hartford cemetery, near Grafton. Friends may call at the funeral home here to view the body after 4 p.m. today.
TIETSORT. Died 10-08-1926. Mrs. Cornelia Tietsort, 81, died August 10, at the home of her son, Walter B. Tietsort, on S. State St., Jerseyville. Rev. Harold Farrill officiated with burial in Oak Grove cemetery. Her husband Charles W. died June 3. She was daughter of Charles H. and Mary (Hooper) Bowman, early Jersey County settlers, she was born on a farm near Jerseyville. Her father was sheriff of Jersey County. She married Charles W. Tietsort January 14, 1869, then lived in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Fidelity, Illinois, Medora, Illinois in 1878. She also went to Fisher school in Fidelity township, Mrs. Cutting, teacher; and to boarding school – WCTU. She leaves 1 son, Walter; 1 foster daughter, Mrs. H. L. Hunter of Wichita Falls, Texas; 1 step-son, C. H. Tietsort of El Paso, Texas; 2 sisters, Eunice Bliss of St. Louis, and Mrs. Hugh Bellas of Auburn, Nebraska; 1 brother W. Scott Bowman of Kansas City, Kansas; 2 Granddaughters, Dorthea and Eleanor Tietsort. The late Stephen H. Bowman of Jerseyville was a brother.
TIFF. Died 11-1909. Mrs. Ann Tiff, 70, died at her home. She had been a resident of Jersey County for 65 years. She leaves 1 daughter, Olive Richards. Funeral from Methodist church, conducted by Rev. C. Nash.
TILLERY. Died 10-02-1958. Dayton Tillery, 70, died suddenly at 4:35 pm Tuesday February 10 at his home in Jerseyville. He was a retired carpenter. Born in Greene County, June 25, 1888, he was a son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Theodore Tillery. Surviving are his wife, the Former Gertrude Cummings, 1 daughter, Mrs. Lucille Langley of Cottage Hills; 1 brother, Arthur Tillery of Alabama; 2 sisters, Mrs. Pleasant Short, White Hall and Mrs. Oscar Crane, Carrollton, and 2 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, John in 1953 and a sister, Mrs. Orson Martin in 1957. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm today at Mehl’s Funeral Home, Rev. Arthur Corcoran of Cottage Hills officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Gilead cemetery.
TILLERY. Died 11-08-1953. John Tillery, 83, of Woodville township in Greene County, brother of Dayton and Arthur Tillery of Jerseyville, died August 11 at Boyd Memorial hospital in Carrollton. He had been in ill health for some time. A native of Greene County, Mr. Tillery had spent most of his life engaged in farming, blacksmithing and carpentering. His wife and 4 children preceded him in death. The deceased is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. Lena Varble of Woodville; 1 son, Ivan Tillery of Arcadia, Kansas; 17grandchildren; 10 g-grandchildren; 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Funeral services were held at the Mehl Funeral Home in Carrollton Friday, August 14, under the auspices of the Order of Odd Fellows. Interment was in Mt. Gilead cemetery.
TIMMONS. Died 05-1917. Albert W. Timmons, 52, died at the home of his Father, Newton B. Timmons, 302 Sumner St., in Jerseyville. He entered a deaf mute school at the age of 19, and learned the printers trade. He worked at this trade for several years and then helped his father in the broom trade. He leaves his father, 2 sisters, and 3 nephews.
TIMMONS. Died 21-01-1916. Mrs. Sarah Timmons, 80, wife of N. B. Timmons, died at their home in Jerseyville January 21, 1916. Born in Philadelphia, Ohio, December 21, 1836. She married N. B. Timmons in 1854. They had 6 children, 3 of them dying in infancy. She was a nurse in Jerseyville for a number of years doing charitable work among the sick. She leaves her aged husband, Mr. N. B. Timmons, 1 son Albert Timmons, 2 daughters, Mrs. Rowena Redlich of Jerseyville and Mrs. C. C. Kitzenburg of Alton, Illinois; several grandchildren. Funeral was held, Sunday, from their home by Rev. E. T. Carroll of Methodist church.
TIMMONS. Died 27-07-1917. Newton B. Timmons, 71, died at his home July 27. Rev. F. O. Wilson officiated at the funeral held from home of deceased. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.
TIMMONS. Died 1927. Word telling of the death of Martin J. Timmons was received here Sunday by relatives. His death occurred at his home in Kansas City. The deceased is a brother-in-law of Circuit Clerk A. J. Quinn and Mrs. A. F. Ely of this city and of Mrs. Maragret O’Donnell of Grafton. His wife was formerly Miss Bridget Quinn of this city. Mr. Timmons was one of the oldest employees of the C. & A. railroad and had been connected with that road for 62 years.
TIMPE. Died 29-05-1982. Mamie Timpe, 82, died at Jersey Care Center, May 29. Born in Fieldon, the daughter of Thomas & Annie (Warner) Wollenweber. She was a cook for 14 years at Jacksonville School for the Deaf. She married Lionel Timpe who died in 1968. She leaves 2 daughters, Imogene Theobald of Gillespie , Edity Schofield of Carrollton; 1 son, Arnold Freer of Godfrey; 5 grandchildren, 13 g-grandchildren; 2 g-g-grandchildren; 2 Sisters, Florence Wagner of Carollton and Tillie Camerer of Eldred; 1 Brother, Tom Wollenweber of Eldred. Rev. Wm. Schmidt officiated at services and burial was in city cemetery.
TIMPE. Died 24-04-1978. Services for Mrs. Eva Louise Timpe, 91, of 601 Page, Jerseyville were conducted at 1:30 pm April 27 from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, by Rev. Robert Patterson. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. Her death occurred at 4:50 pm April 24 at Alton Memorial hospital. She had resided at Garnet’s Chateau since January 21. She was born in Grafton October 16, 1886, a daughter of Daniel & Mary (Monk) Cope. Her husband, Peter Timpe, died October 3, 1963. She is survived by 2 daughters, Nellie Kelley of Grafton and Dorothy Geisler of Dow; 1 brother, Floyd Cope of Tuyalleys, Washington, and 1 sister, Inez Penland of Tracy, California. She was also preceded in death by 1 granddaughter and 1 g-granddaughter. The family has designated the Jerseyville Nazarene church as a memorial.
TIMPE. Died 09-08-1982. Charles Timpe, 96, of Jerseyville died August 9 at Jersey Community hospital. The retired farmer was born June 16, 1886 in Jersey County. A son of Wm. & Mary (Marisch) Timpe. His wife Augusta (Bunse) Timpe died May 7,1963. He leaves 3 grandchildren and 8 g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Veronica Nolen of St. Louis, Missouri. His parents, wife, and 2 sons preceded him in death. Funeral was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with burial in Oak Grove cemetery.
TIMPE. John Timpe, 73, of Brighton formerly of Alton, died at 7:35 pm Monday, April 14, 1986, at Alton Memorial hospital. A son of the late Joseph & Flora (Swakhardt) Timpe, he married the former Katherine Hamilton on February 14, 1934, in Alton. The native of Jersey County retired as a mechanic from John T. Brown Cadillac Agency in Alton. Surviving, are his wife; 2 daughters, Dorothy J. Akers of Jerseyville and Carol S. Madden of Springfield; 3 sons, John E. Timpe of Edwardsville, Robert E. Timpe of Alton and John D. Timpe of Ft. Polk, Lousinan; 15 grandchildren; 5 g-grandchildren; 1 brother, Kenneth Timpe of Jerseyville; and 2 sisters, Helen Arlene St. Peters of Jerseyville and Lillie Schanafelt of East Alton. Visitation will be from 5-9 today at Gent Funeral Home in Alton, where services will be conducted at 2 pm Thursday with the Rev. Mike Adams officiating. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. The American Cancer Society has been named as a memorial.
TIMPE. Died 05-04-1980. Services for Cleve Timpe, 66, of 1134 N. Warren, Jerseyville will be conducted at 2 pm Tuesday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, Father William Hembrow and Father Patrick Morrow officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. He died at 11:35 pm April 5, at Jersey Community hospital after an extended illness. He was born September 17, 1913 in Illinois, a son of Charles & Agusta (Bunse) Timpe and was a retired pipe fitter from Shell Oil. His survivors are his wife, the former Minnie Flamm whom he married April 28, 1955 at Holy Ghost church; and his father, Charles Timpe, Jerseyville. His mother and 1 brother preceded him in death. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm Monday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The American Cancer Society has been named as a memorial.
TIMPE. Died 13-06-1985. A funeral mass for Wilhelmina “Minnie” Timpe, 79, was celebrated Saturday am at Holy Ghost church with father William Hembrow as celebrant. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. She died at 6:45 pm June 13 at St. Anthony’s hospital in Alton. She was born November 1, 1906 in Jersey County to the late John & Katherine (Murphy) Flamm and married Cleve Timpe April 28, 1955; he died April 5, 1980. Mrs. Timpe was a member of the Holy Ghost church. She is survived by 1 brother, Robert Flamm of Jerseyville; and 3 sisters, Teresa Sears of Jerseyville, Margaret Stites, Alton, and Agnes Harmon, Kane, nieces and nephews. The Holy Ghost school has been named as a memorial.
TIMPE. Died 10-1918. Mrs. Mary Timpe, 71, widow of Wm. Timpe, Sr., died at her home at 607 W. Mulberry St. after a brief illness. The private funeral was from Holy Ghost church, Rev. E. J. Eckhard officiating. Burial in St. Mary’s cemetery.
TIMPE. Died 23-12-1983. Services for Allice Ardell Timpe, 72, of Hartford were held Monday am at Marks Mortuary in Wood River with the Rev. R. E. George of Jerseyville officiating. She died at 5:30 pm December 23 at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville where she had resided for a year. She was born in Jerseyville, a daughter of the late Frank & Amanda (Painter) Chism and married R. Raymond Timpe in Alton on September 15, 1939; he died October 7, 1982. She is survived by 1 daughter, Donna Sykes of Hartford, Alabama; 2 step-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Thelma Hart of Hartford. She was a sister of the late Irene V. Brown of Jerseyville. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery, Jerseyville. The First Methodist church of Hartford was named as a memorial.
TIMPE. Died 07-10-1982. Services for R. Raymond Timpe, 72, of Hartford, who had resided at Greenwood Manor for about 10 months, were conducted October 11 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River by the Rev. R. E. George of Jerseyville. His death occurred October 7 at Jersey Community hospital. Timpe was employed as a machinist at the Hartford International Shoe Tannery for 32 years. Later he worked for American Steel Foundry in Granite City. The Jersey County native was the son of the late William & Laura Timpe. He is survivied by his wife, the former Alice Ardell Chism, also a resident of Greenwood Manor; 1 Daughter, Donna Sykes of Hartford, Alabama; and 2 step-grandchildren. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.
TIMPE. Died 29-05-19?? The funeral of Mamie Timpe, 82, who died at 12:25 pm May 29 at Jersey Care Center, was conducted at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Born in Fieldon, she was the daughter of the late Thomas & Annie (Warner) Wollenweber. She was a cook for 14 years at the Illinois school for the deaf in Jacksonville, retiring in 1968. She married Lionel Timpe who died in 1969. She is survived by 2 Daughters, Imogene Theobald of Gillespie and Edith Schofield of Carrollton; 1 son, Arnold Freer of Godfrey; 5 grandchildren; 13 g-grandchildren, 2g-g-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Florence Wagner of Carrollton and Tillie Camerer of Eldred; and 1 brother, Tom Wollenweber of Eldred. The Rev. William Schmidt officiated and burial was in Carrollton city cemetery. Our Redeemer Lutheran church in Carrollton has been named as a memorial.

Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. His death occurred at 8:15 pm August 9 at Jersey Community hospital. The retired farmer was born June 16, 1886 in Jersey County, a son of William & Mary (Marisch) Timpe. His wife, Augusta (Bunse) Timpe, died May 7, 1963. He is survived by 3 grandchildren and 8 g-grandchildren and 1 sister, Veronica Nolen of St. Louis. His parents, wife and 2 sons preceded him in death.
TINDLE. Died 1852. Mary L. Tindle, 78, (age & birth-death date disagree) was born in Freehold, Monmouth County, New Jersey, June 10, 1782. She moved to Illinois in 1845; and was a member of the Baptist church. The funeral was held from the home of Sam Snedker.
TINSLEY. Died 22-08-1960. Mrs. Norma Jane Tinsley, 26 years, 7 months, 3 days, wife of Rev. Carver Tinsley of Hammond, Indiana, and only daughter of Rev. Benjamin W. Sauerwein of Jerseyville, died at 9:30 pm Monday, August 22, at a hospital in Hammond, Indiana. Earlier in the summer Mrs. Tinsley had been a medical patient at a clinic in Dallas, Texas and upon improvement had returned to Hammond. The body was brought to Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville where friends may call after 2 pm this (Thursday) afternoon. Funeral services will be held at the Bible Baptist church Friday, August 26, at 2 pm with Rev. Harold Harfh of Decatur officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs. Tinsley, daughter of Rev. Sauerwein & the late Ada (Hart) Sauerwein, was born in Grafton, January 19, 1934. She was a graduate of the Jersey Community high school. In addition to her husband and father, Mrs. Tinsley is survived by 1 daughter, Beth Tinsley of Hammond; 1 brother Paul Sauerwein (incomplete info).
TISIUS. Died 1973. Private services were held Wednesday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville for Mrs. Grace Adams Tisius, 81, of 904 W. Exchange St., Jerseyville. Her death occurred unexpectedly early Monday am. Interment was in Alton cemetery. She was born March 17, 1892, in Jerseyville, a daughter of Judson & Hettie (Glass) Adams. She is survived by her husband, Edward W. Tisius. The American heart fund was designated as a memorial. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
TITUS. Died 1887. Mrs. Catherine E. Titus, 67, wife of Smith M. Titus died at home in Jerseyville. Born in Delhi, Delaware County, New York, May 29, 1820 and there spent her youth. Married S. M. Titus on November 16, 1842. They lived in Elsah and then moved to Jerseyville, in 1851, and kept the National Hotel. In 1870 she went to St. Louis and lived there until 1879; then coming back to Jerseyville. She had 2 children; Sherman died in Vicksburg in 1867, Allie is the wife of Wm. C. Dicus at Atlanta, Kansas. Funeral was from her home on Main St., Rev. Ira Tyson officiating.
TOBER. Died 24-01-1916. Mrs. Joseph Tober 45, died at home east of Jerseyville, near Kemper, January 24. She was the wife of supervisor Joseph Tober. She leaves her husband, 3 daughters, Miss Lois, Jean, and Hallie; 2 sons, Clifford, and James H. who has been in Colorado Springs the past month, he will be home for the funeral. She was a daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Lewis Elliot of Medora. Funeral will be held at the Baptist church.
TOBER. Died 04 03-1974. Final services were conducted on March 7 at Trinity Episcopal church in Mt. Vernon for Jean M. Tober, 73, a former Jersey County resident. He died March 4 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He is survivedby his widow, Hazel; 1 Son, Milton of Johnson City, Tennessee; 6 daughters, Mary Tober of Elsah, Mrs. Alpha Rice of Kingsport, Tennessee. Mrs Irene Padberg of Patoka, Mrs. Lois Denton of Orlando, Florida, Mrs. Maxine McNeil of Texas and Mrs. Sidney Harman of Livonia, Michigan; 17 grandchildren; 7 g-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Mrs. Lois Slivka of St. Louis.
TOBER. Died 02-1985. Mary “Mae” F. Tober, 97, of Medora died at Jersey Care Center, born in Jersey County, daughter of Samuel J. & Bridgett (Quirk) Tober. She had been a reporter for Carlinville and Jerseyville papers. She is survived by cousins. Funeral was held from St. John’s Catholic church in Medora, Rev. T. J. Davenport as celebrant. Burial in St. Francis cemetery. Masses are suggested as memorials. Warner-Targhetta Funeral Home, Medora, arrangements.
TOBEY. Died 16-01-1925. Frank Tobey, 58, died at home near East Hardin, January 16. He was buried in Pontiac, Illinois.
TODD. Died 08-1958. Mrs. Grace B. Todd, 63, wife of former Illinois State Highway patrolman Richard Todd, who has been residing in St. Louis died at a hospital in that city Thursday. Funeral services were held at the Stock Mortuary in St. Louis, Saturday and burial was in Upper Alton cemetery. Mrs Todd, the former Grace Fryman, was born July 27, 1895. Surviving her in addition to her husband, are a son, Harold Ballard of Jerseyville, and 1 brother Roy Fryman.
TODD. Died 02-06-1982. Rev. Leonard Todd, a minister of the United Church of Christ (Evangelical & Reformed) for many years, died June 2, at Alton Memorial hospital. Ordained in 1933, he sereved churches in Jerseyville, Fieldon, Alton and Midway. Born in Pinckneyville, son of Joseph & Bertha Kuehl Todd. Educated at Chicago University and Edin Seminary. First pastorate was in Fieldon where he served until 1942 when he entered the Army as a chaplain. After his release from service, he served at St. Jacob. In 1953 he came to Alton Evangelical and Reformed church and served until 1961 when he went to Zion E. & R. in Junction City, Kansas. Back to Alton to Midway until retirement. He leaves his wife, former Lule Kruse whom he married June 28, 1933, son, Richard W. of Washington, DC, 3 grandchildren; 3 brothers, William of Pinckneyville, Ralph of Anaheim, California and Orville of Rock Island; 1 sister, Elena Anderson of Rock Island. Servcices were held Saturday afternoon at the Evangelical United Church of Christ, Godfrey, with Revs Walter Krebs and Lance Bently officiating with burial in Upper Alton cemetery.
TODD. Died 09-07-1983. Services for Fred Robert Todd Sr., 79, of 455 Barr Ave., Jerseyville will be conducted Tuesday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, by the Rev. James Pepper with burial in Oak Grove cemetery. He died at 11:20 pm July 9 at Jersey Community hospital. He was born May 18, 1904 in Calhoun County, son of the late Jack & Margaret (Anderson) Todd and was a retired river barge worker, First Mate. His survivors are his wife, Marie (Ballard) Todd whom he married August 14, 1971 in Jerseyville; 1 son, Fred Robert Todd Jr. of Clearwater, Florida; 2 grandchildren and 4 g-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 4 brothers and 1 sister preceded him in death. A memorial will be designated by the family at a later date. Visitation Monday from 4-9 pm at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
TOHILL. Died 07-01-1956. Sk3 George Frederick (Ted) Tohill, older son of Mr. & Mrs. George Tohill, 506 N. Pleasant St., died January 27 in the Naval Hospital in Jokosuka, Japan, according to a message received Friday am by his parents, from the Navy department. Mr. & Mrs. Tohill had received a message on Thursday evening informing them their son was critically ill in the Navy hospital due to head injuries incurred while on authorized leave. Similar messages were also received by the young sailor’s bride of 9 months, Mrs. Carol (McKinney) Tohill, who was residing with her parents, Mr. &Mrs. L. V. McKinney in Alton while her husband was in the service. Mrs. Tohill received word Monday evening from the Navy department that the body of her busband will be returned to the states on the first air freight flight from Japan but no date was given. The body will be brought to the Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Sk3 Tohill enlisted in the Navy on June 25, 1953, and received his boot training at Bainbridge, Maryland, after which he attended radio and communication schools in San Diego. In February, 1954, he was sent on overseas duty and was in Japan for 17 mos. While there he served aboard apl (incomplete info).
TOLBERT. Died 04-10-1906. William Tolbert, 77, died at his home near Otterville, Friday October 4, 1906. He was born in the state of Virginia, in 1829. He came to Illinois about 1860; and was married to Miss Sarah Pack in the latter part of the 60’s. To this union were born 9 children. Mrs Sarah Tolbert died about 1885. Mr. Tolbert then married Mrs. Rowden, May 31, 1891, by the Rev. S. Catt. He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife 3 sons and 4 daughters, and many friends. William Tolbert was a member of Company H, 61st Reg’t Illinois Vol. Inf. in the Civil War.
TOLBERT. Died 21-04-1946. Lewis R. Tolbert, 99, beleived to be the last Civil War veteran in Jersey, Greene, Calhoun, and Pike counties, died April 21, at the home of his son, Emil Tolbert, in Calhoun County.
TOLSCH. Died 27-05-1974. Funeral rites for Fred George Tolsch, 77, of Mobile Home Estates, Grafton, were held May 30, from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton. His death occurred on May 27 at Alton Memorial hospital. He was born May 22, 1897. Mr. Tolsch was a storekeeper in electric manufacturing. He was a member of the First Baptist church of Grafton. His survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Mary (Metcalfe) Tolsch; 2 sons, Joseph Tolsch of St. Louis and Albert Tolsch of Florida; 1 daughter, Mrs. Shirley Robertson of Californai; 7 grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren; 1 half brother, Charles Kebsch of Grafton; and step children. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton.

TONSOR. John A. Tonsor, 82, one of the best known residents of English township, died at his home 7 miles west of Jerseyville, Tuesday, October 3, 1921at 5 am. Mr. Tonsor was born in Fuerstenberg, Germany, September 24, 1840, and was the son of John & Mary Ann Tonsor. With his parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother, Mr. Tonsor came to the United States in 1853, and settled in English township. His father bought 80 acres of land in English township where the family lived until the parents death. John Tonsor purchased his father’s farm, and by industry, frugality and strict economy, has added to his holdings until at the time of his death, he owned about 700 acres in English township. Mr. Tonsor was united in mariage to Miss Elizabeth Ehrig, and to this union were born 14 children. 2 of them died in infancy, and 1, Stephen Tonsor, died several years ago. The surviving children are Frank, John Henry, Antone and Joseph Tonsor of Jersey County, and Fred A. Tonsor of St. Louis, Mrs. Herman Beiermann, Mrs. Frank J. Kallal, Misses Eliazbeth, Kate and Minnie Tonsor, all of Jersey County. Mr. Tonsor was a man of the strictest honesty and integrity, fearing no man, always an exponent of the right as he saw the right, ready always to do his duty toward God and his fellowman. He occupied a position of trust in the township and in St. Mary’s parish that many might envy. During his entire lifetime, Mr. Tonsor was a devout Catholic and was one of the builders of St. Mary’s parish in the West Woods, of which he continued to be a member until his death. Funeral services will be held from St. Mary’s church, Friday, October 6, at 9:30 am. Solemn requiem high mass will be celebrated, Rev. Father John H. Gramke, celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary’s cemetery.
TONSOR. Died 10-1966. Funeral services for Henry A. Tonsor, 77 years, 2 months, 22 days, retired farmer of English township, were held Wednesday at 10 am at St. Mary’s church, Westwoods. Requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Paul P. Heinen and interment was in St. Mary’s cemetery. Visitation hours were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where the rosary was recited Tuesday evening. The death of Mr. Tonsor, a veteran of WWI, occurred 8:40 am Monday at Jersey Community hospital where he had been moved a few hours earlier. His home was on Rural Route 4 Jerseyville. Mr. Tonsor was a son of the late John & Elizabeth (Erig) Tonsor and was born in Jersey County on July 25, 1880. Surviving him are 1 brother, Tony Tonsor, and 1 sister, Mrs. Josephine Kallal, both of Jerseyville.

A retired farmer and WWI veteran, Mr. Tonsor was born August 23, 1891 in Jersey County the son of John & Elizabeth (Erig) Tonsor. His wife, Dora E. Pieper Tonsor, preceded him in death. His survivors are 3 daughters, Mrs. Linus (Mildred) Drainer, Mrs. Eugene (Alberta) Breitweiser, and Mrs. Kenneth (Marie) Liffets; and 2 sons, Kenneth R. and Maurice A. Tonsor, all of Jerseyville; 13 grandchildren; 1 g-granddaughter; 11 brothers and sisters preceded him in death. Visitation hours were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
TONSOR. Died 24-06-1955. Joseph A. Tonsor, 60, well-known farmer residing west of Jerseyville, died suddenly Friday evening, June 24, at 8:30 while watching television at his home with his wife and their daughter, Janet. Although Mr. Tonsor had been under the care of a physician for some time, his death came as a shock to members of his family and the community. Mr. Tonsor was a son of the late John & Elizabeth (Erig) Tonsor, natives of Germany. He was born in Jersey County July 1, 1894, and his age at the time of death was 60 years, 11 months, and 23 days. In addition to his farming interests, Mr. Tonsor was prominent in church and fraternal organizations. He was a veteran of WWI, and had been an active member of St. Mary’s church, Westwoods, and was a trustee of St. Mary’s cemetery. Fraternally he was a member of the Jerseyville Council, Knights of Columbus, of which he was a past grand Knight, member of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus, Worthey Post, American Legion of which he was past commander, the 40 & 8, Jerseyville Elks and Moose Lodges. Mr. Tonsor was also a former member of the Board of Directors of Jersey Community Hospital District. Surviving are: his wife, Mrs. Cecelia Tonsor, 4 daughters, Mrs. Ernest Pohlman, Mrs. James Thamblen, Mrs. Truman Garland and Miss Janet Tonsor; 2 sons Robert and Joe Tonsor, Jr., 2 Brothers, Henry and Anthony Tonsor, and 3 sisters, Miss Elizabeth Tonsor, Mrs. Minnie Tittle and Mrs. Josephine Kallal, all of Jerseyville. He also leaves 12 grandchildren. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville after 7 pm Saturday. Jerseyville-carrollton Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus stood guard at the funeral home. Largely attended rites were held Monday am, June 27, at 9:30 at St. Mary’s church, Westwoods. Solemn requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Leonard Rathgeb, pastor of St. Mary’s church. Rev. Father Justin Schmeider of Lincoln, Nebraska, brother-in-law of Mr. Tonsor, was deacon of the mass, and Rev. Father Paul P. Heinen, pastor of the Holy Ghost church in Jerseyville, was sub deacon. Burial was in St. Mary’s cemetery.
TONSOR. Died 19-02-1925. Frederick A. (R. ?) Tonsor, 37, died Thursday, February 19, 1925, at his home in Kansas City, Missouri. From the mysterious disease with which he had become ill about 3 years ago. He was treated by several of the best physicians but the direct cause of his death was not learned. Mr. Tonsor was born on a farm north west of Jerseyville, the son of John & Elizabeth (Ehring) Tonsor. He was united in marriage with Miss Edna England of this city. They went from here to Alton where he was connected with a dry goods firm company. Later he was transferred to Kansas City, where he had charge of Laclede Steel Company office. The deceased possessed a tenor voice of wonderful quality and was for a number of years one of the leading members of the choir at St. Francis Xavier church. He is survived by his wife; 4 brothers, Frank, Henry, Joseph, and Antone Tonsor, and 5 sisters, Mrs. Herman Beiermann, Mrs. Frank J. Kallal, Misses Elizabeth, Minnie and Kate Tonsor, all of Jerseyville. His father, John Tonsor, and a brother, John Tonsor, Jr., died during the fall of 1922. Funeral services were held from St. Francis church, Monday February 23, high mass celebrated by Rev. Francis Shiels, Rev. J. H. Gramke, Rev. Daniel Quinn, with burial in St. Francis cemetery.
TONSOR. Died 25-07-1978. A funeral mass was celebrated for J. Robert Tonsor, 51, of Rural Route 4, Jerseyville, Thursday am at St. Mary’s church, Westwoods, with Father William Hembrow celebrant. Burial was in the church cemetery. He died unexpectedly at 10:28 am July 25 at Jersey Community hospital where he was taken after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home. He was born November 27, 1926, a son of Joseph A. and Edith (Schmieder) Tonsor and was employed at Shell Oil refinery. His survivors are his wife, the former Bernice Skinner; 2 sons, J. R. Tonsor and Phillip Tonsor of Jerseyville; 7 daughters, Mrs. Cindy Wittman of Jerseyville, Mary Frances, Denna and Melissa Tonsor, at home , Mrs. Joan Stafford and Tina Tonsor of Springfield, Patricia Tonsor of Ft. Collins; 1 brother, Joe Tonsor of Jerseyville; 4 sisters, Mrs. Marcella Schroeder, Mrs. Lucille Hamblen and Mrs. Edie Lou Garland of Jerseyville and Janet File of Godfrey; 4 grandchildren; mother Mrs. Celia Groppel, Jerseyville. The rosary was recited at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, Wednesday evening followed by fourth degree services. The Knights of Columbus building fund and the heart fund were designated as memorials.

He was born July 18, 1900, in Jersey County, son of the late Stephen John & Agnes (Blaeser) Tonsor. He married Rosemary Wall on September 6, 1922, at Holy Ghost church and she died July 31, 1977. Mr. Tonsor had been a painter with Baughman’s Manufacturing Company of Jerseyville, retiring in 1965. He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic church and was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include, 5 sons, Stephen Tonsor III of Ann Arbor, Michigan Ed Tonsor of Jerseyville, Bernard Tonsor of Mission, Texas, Gerald Tonsor of East Peoria and Patrick Tonsor of San Jose, California; 3 daughters, Mary Jean Jaruis of Jacksonville, Kathryn Warden of Hillsboro and Monica Plummer of Alton; 2 Sisters, Bertha Archer of Owego, New York and Agnes Ronning of Falls Church, Virginia; 31 grandchildren; and 36 g-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from St. Francis church, Monday January 9, at 9:30 am. High mass will be celebrated, the Rev. J. J. Clancy celebrant. Interment will be in St. Francis cemetery. The deceased was a member of Jerseyville Council, Knights of Columbus, which will attend the funeral in a body. He is survived by his father and 4 brothers, John, Daniel, Thomas and Leo Touhy.
TOURIVILLE. Died 1891. Uncle Peter Touriville, born at Florissant, Missouri December 19, 1809 and 45 years ago settled on a farm in Jersey County near Newbern, where he lived until his death. February 1839 married Nancy Irwin. He leaves his wife, 1 daughter, Mrs. Glassbrenner, 19 grandchildren and 12 g-grandchildren. Funeral services were from St. Michaels church, Father Marks officiating. Pallbearers were: Alex Chappee, John Chappee, James Chappee, George Chappee, Charles Chappee and Joseph Chappee. TOWELL. Died 12-01-1989. James I. Towell, 74, died at 9:30 am Thursday, January 12, 1989, at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton. Towell was a shiping clerk at Owens-Illinois machine shop in Godfrey, retiring in 1979. He then became a commercial fisherman in Grafton. He was born in Poyner, Missouri, son of the late John & Emma (Hobbs) Towell. On May 10, 1947, in Pochontas, Arkansas, he married the former Vida Thompson, and she survives. Also surviving are 2 sons, James H. Towell at home and bill Towell of Wood River; 2 Daughters, Reva Wallace and Carol Harris, both of Oregon;1 step daughter, Barbara Thompson of Bethalto; 9 grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren; 1 brother, George Towell of Poyner; and 2 Sisters, Etta Anglin of Poyner and Opal Campbell of St. Louis. He was preceded in death by 1 son, Roy Towell; 2 Brothers, Ira and Orville Towell; and 1 sister, Molly Anglin. TOWELL. Died 08-06-1988. Roy L. Towell, 50, died unexpectedly at 7:44 pm Wednesday, June 8, 1988, at St. Joseph’s hospital in Alton. Towell was a retired US Navy aircraft mechanic and worked at Mcdonnell-Douglas Corp. in St. Louis as an engineer. Born in Missouri, he was the son of James Towell of Grafton and Irene (Wright) Johnston of Cicero, Oregon. He married the former Lavena Pace December 18, 1978, in Jerseyville, she survives. In addition to his wife and parents, surviving are 2 daughters, Dawn Bellon and Cheryl Young, both of Des Plaines; 4 sons, Michael Towell of Grafton and Douglas, Joe and Andy Towell, all at home; 1 Stepson, Benjamin Zimmerman at home; 5 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Reva Wallace of Albany, Oregon, and Carol Harris of Ciceo, Oregon; 1 brother, William Towell of Wood River; and 1 half brother, Jim Towell of Grafton. Visitation will be 5-9 pm Friday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be conducted at 10 am Saturday by Rev. William Hendricks. Military graveside services will be conducted at Scenic Hill cemetery in Grafton by Grafton American Legion Post 648. Autopsy results are pending.
TOWSE. Freda M. Towse, 93, died at 11:15 am Sunday, January 26, 1986, at Wood River township hospital. She and her husband, the late Howard Towse, previously owned and operated the furniture store and funeral home in Chesterfield. 1 sister, Ruby Keele Wheeler of Carlinville, survives. Visitation will be from 10 am Wednesday until service time at 11 am at Warner-Targhetta Funeral Home in Chesterfield with the Rev. Wayne S. Shipley officiating. Burial will be in Keller Cemetery in Chesterfield.
TRABUE. Died 04-12-1867. Mrs. Lizzie Trabue, 38, wife of Edward Trabue died December 4, 1867 in Martinsburg, Missouri. Mrs Trabue had been ill of consumption and leaves her husband and 4 children. She was sincere christian and warm friend.

TRABUE. Died 18-03-1898. Miss Margaret Trabue 74, died at the home of her brother, Edward Trabue, 5 & 1/2 miles east of Jerseyville, March 18, 1898. She was the daughter of Rev. Aaron & Martha Trabue and born in Kentucky, July 4, 1824. After the death of her father in 1877 she made her home with her brother, Edward. She died singing the songs she had sung so long. The funeral was held from Paradise church, which her father had founded. Rev. J. J. Porter officiated and interment was in paradise cemetery near the church. (one card referred to Chapman cemetery also and was also near the church).
TRABUE. Died 1925. Mrs. Rosetta Owens Trabue, 66, wife of Murray B. Trabue died at home on Barr Ave. She had worked for the Temperance cause and was known all over the state. She was born November 27, 1858 at New Douglas, Madison County, daughter of Joseph & Sarah (Laving) Owens. She was a member of Baptist church, charter member of Royal Neighbor Lodge and an Eastern Star. On October 18, 1883, she married Murray B. Trabue, who survives her. Also surviving: 2 brothers, Z. B. Owens of St. Louis and Riley Owens of Denver, Colorado, 2 nephews, Murray R. Owens and Kenneth Owens and 1 Niece, Wilma Owens all of St. Louis. Rev. R. B. Favoright of Maywood officiated at services held from Baptist church.
TRABUE. Born 10-09-1828. Died 10-03-1898. Mary A. Cummings Trabue, 69, died March 10, 1898. “Mrs Trabue is dead” was the word that was spread throughout the neighborhood on Thursday and although it was generally known that she had been sick for 2 weeks, it came as a great shock to her many friends who had thought she had passed the danger line. She was the oldest daughter of Thomas & Mary Ann Cummings, born on her father’s homestead 4 miles south of Jerseyville. Her father was born in the block house on old fort at Waterloo, Illinois, March 4 1800 and is said to have been the first white child born in Monroe County. Her grandfather Cummings was born in Connecticut, when it was a colony. His parents were Scotch. He was in the Revolutionary War and fought under Gen. Wayne. Also a soldier in the war against the Miami Indians in 1790 and witnessed the defeat of Gen. St. Clair by Little Turtle. Thomas Cummings kept a country tavern where drovers were entertained on the way from Jacksonville to Alton with their stock and produce. She rembered the great cattle king, Jacob Strawn, for whom she had helped prepare many a meal by the old fire place and oven. She lived on the old homestead until December 15, 1868, when she married Edward Trabue (also stated February 1868), and she took upon hrself the care of his children with the tenderness and devotion of an own mother. She spent her lifetime in Jersey County. She united with Methodist church at Paradise, in Medora circuit in February 1894. Her home was the home of the minister, and much have they told of her kindness and hospitality. Up to September 1894, the circuit had rented a house for the pastor which frequently worked great inconvenience to him; and she said it was not right to have a minister moving from house to house at the will of the landlord, so she bought a home for the pastor to live in, and was always carefull to see that it was kept in good repair. Her hand was always open for the needs of her church, but she is now gone to live the glorious live of the children of God. The funeral was conducted by the writer from the family home, J. L. Wylder, of Upper Alton. Burial in Oak Grove cemetery. Dust to dust; ashes to ashes.
TRACY. Died 11-10-1989. Ellen “Nellie” Tracy, 94, died at 8:10 pm Wednesday, October 11, 1989, at Greenwood Manor in Jerseyville. She was a charter member of the Jersey County Homemakers Association, and Jersey Community Hospital Auxiliary, Jerseyville. Born in Jersey County, she was the daughter of the late Stephen L. and Mary (Maloney) Massey. Her husband, Frank Tracy, died on October. 30, 1966. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Tracy of Champaign; 2 sons, Bob Tracy of Mount Sterling and William Tracy of Jerseyville; 17 grandchildren; numerous g-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Lucille Massey of Jerseyville and Marguerite Ballhurst of Alton; and a brother, Jack Massey of Curran. Preceding her in death were a son, John Tracy; 3 brothers, Harry James, and Frank Massey; and 1 sister, Kathleen Massey. Visitation is 4-9 pm Friday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with a prayer service at 7 pm. A funeral mass is at 10 am Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic church in Jerseyville with Rev. Henry Schmidt as celebrant. Burial is in St. Francis Xavier cemetery, Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to St. Francis Xavier school, Jerseyville.

TRACY. Died 11-1966. Frank B. Tracy, 77, of Jerseyville, active in farm and dairy circles for many years, died at 8:20 Sunday pm at Blu Fountain Manor, Godfrey, where he had been a patient for the past 4 months. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. A nephew of the deceased, Rev. Father Leo Tracy of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was celebrant of the requiem mass which was offered at 10 am Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier church in Jerseyville. Burial was in St. Francis cemetery. Born in Morgan County, Illinois, December 6, 1889, a son of the late William & Mary T. Connolly Tracy, Mr. Tracy had resided in Jersey County for 53 years. He was engaged in grain and dairy farming until his retirement because of inpaired health. In the course of his farming career, Mr. Tracy had been active in the allied organizations. He served as vice-president of the Sanitary Milk Producers, Inc., a co-operative of dairy farmers of Illinois and Missouri, and was a member of the directorate for a number of years. He was also at one time president of the Jersey County Farm Bureau and served as a director of that organization forseveral terms. Mr. Tracy had been a member of St. Francis church since coming to this area to extablish his home more than a half-century ago. He was a member of the Jerseyville Council, Knights ofColumbus, and was a former faithful navigator of the father Terrence Brady Assembly of Fourth Degree Knights. He served with the military forces during WWI, and held membership in Worthey Post, American Legion, and WWI barracks. Surviving Mr. Tracy are: his wife, Mrs. Nellie (Massey) Tracy; 1 daughter, Mary Ellen Tracy of champaign; 2 sons, William Tracy of Jerseyville and Robert F. Tracy of Mt. Sterling; 16 grandchildren; 1 brother Leo Tracy of St. Louis, and 3 sisters, Mrs. Edward Groteke and Mrs. Virgil Gaudette of Los (incomplete info)
TRANKLE. Died 11-11-1906. Harry W. Trankle, 42, died at his home in n Venice, Illinois, November 11, 1906. The funeral was held from German Evangelical church, in Jerseyville, officiated by Rev. E. T. Knicker pastor of German Evangelical church at Granite City.
TRANTHAM. Died 04-10-1988. W. Thomas Trantham, 68, formerly of Fieldon, died at 9:26 am Tuesday, October 4, 1988, at Jersey Community hospital. Retiring in 1981, he was a mail carrier for the US Postal service and a WWII veteran. Born in Pacolet Mills, South Carolina, he was the son of the late William T. & Emma (Wells) Trantham. He married the former Florence Schmidt on October 25, 1942, and she survives. Also surviving are 2 Daughters, Susan Allen of Jerseyville and Luanne Taul of Brighton; 4 grandchildren; 2 Sisters, Sara Belue and Mary Hodge, both of Union, South Carolina; 2 half Brothers, Wayne and Billy Trantham, both of Union, South Carolina; and 4 half sisters, Becky Debruhl of Greer, South Carolina, Linda Betenbaugh of Greenville, South Carolina and Bobbie Barber and Andrea Whitener, both of Union, South Carolina. Visitation will be 4-9 pm Thursday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where a rosary will be recited at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Fieldon with Rev. William Hembrow as celebrant. Graveside services will be conducted at St. Mary’s cemetery in Fieldon by the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 and the VFW. Memorials may be given to masses or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
TRANTHAM. Died 18-06-1976. Services for Joseph Harley Trantham, 91, of 708 McClusky Rd., Jerseyville were conducted on June 21 for Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with Rev. L. E. Hutchinson officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. His death occurred on June 18 at the Eunice Smith Nursing Home, Alton. He had formerly operated a used auto parts dealership in Jerseyville, and was born January 15, 1885 in Haywood County, North Carolina, a son of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Trantham. His survivors are 3 daughters, Mrs. Russell (Juanita) Storey of Rural Route 3 Jerseyville, Mrs. Eugene (Ruth) Ash of Alton and Mrs. Burley Walton, Union, South Carolina and 1 sister, Mrs. Cora Cash of Chester, New Jersey. His parents, 1 daughter, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, and 1 g-grandson preceded him in death. The family designated the Cancer Society as a memorial.
TRAUNECKER. Died 20-01-1982. Elizabeth Traunecker, 93, was found dead on the floor of the bathroom at her home, in which the temperature was 40 degrees. Miss Traunecker lived at 505 W. Spruce and a neighbor, Mrs. Mowen called thepolice about 1 pm January 20. She had not been able to reach the elderly woman by telephone and she had not answered her door. The police entered the home through an unlocked window and found the victim lying on the floor. The hot water was running but there was no overflow, and the stool was leaking from the tank entrance and the floor was partially covered with water. Further investigation revealed that the thermostat was turned down as low as possible and a check of the furnace by the police, found the pilot light was out. Mrs. Mowen said she last talked with the victim on Friday January 15. All the windows and the basement were secure according to the police report by Patrolman Gary Kallal. Miss Traunecker was born June 8, 1888 in Jersey County, a daughter of John & Jacobina (Ferenbach) Traunecker. She is survived by 1 sister, Ema C. Gerson of Alton. 3 brothers, and 2 sisters preceded her in death. Services were conducted Friday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville by Rev. Lance Bently with burial in Fieldon cemetery. An inquest is pending.
TRASK. Died 24-07-1982. Services for Otis Modell Trask, 71, of Otterville will be conducted at 2 pm Tuesday at the Otterville Baptist church by the Rev. Joy Settles with intrment in Noble cemetery. He died unexpectedly at 12:55 pm July 24 at his home. His Wife, Hallie Virginia (Snow) Trask, died July 9, 1972. Trask retired in 1973 from Olin Brass Mill after 31 years service. He was born May 14, 1911 in Crawford County, Missouri, a son of Septon & Ethel (Kaysinger) Trask and had lived in this area 42 years. His survivors include 3 sons, William of Otterville, Ernie of Claremore, Oklahoma, and Stu of Belleville; 5 Daughters, Modine Mason of Potosi, Missouri, Ethel Renken of Otterville, Ruth Frazer of Jerseyville, Irm Fry of Delhi and Linda Drainer of Otterville; 32 grandchildren and 12 g-grandchildren. Also surviving are 3 brothers, Elmo, Ralph and Jessie, of Alton and 2 Sisters, Vilta Dilks and Velma Evans of Alton. The heart fund or Carmi Children’s Home have been named as memorials.
TRASK. Died 06-07-1972. Mrs. Hallie Virginia Trask, 52 years, 4 months, and 10 days, died unexpectedly Thursday pm July 6, while on a vacation trip with her husband and their daughter, Miss Linda Lee Trask, at Steelville, Missouri. The Trasks had gone to Missouri on July 4 for a vacation and to visit with relatives. They had taken a cabin on the river. Mrs Trask was stricken ill Thursday night while preparing to retire for the night. She was moved to a hospital in Sullivan, Missouri, where she was pronounced dead on arrival at 11:15 pm death was attributed to a heart attack. Family members said Mrs. Trask had had no previous heart ailment. Mrs Trask was a daughter of the late John Rubin & Ruth (Wilkinson) Snow and was born February 26, 1920 in Crawford County, Missouri. Mr. & Mrs. Trask had lived at Otterville since the early 1940’s. Surviving in addition to her husband, Otis Modell, are 4 Daughters, Linda Lee, Mrs. Ethel Renken, Mrs. Ruth Ann Frazer and Mrs. Irma Fry of Otterville; 3 Sons, Wm. M., Ernest J., and Robert Stuart Trask of Otterville; 20 grandchildren, 2 brothers, James Snow of St. Louis and Leroy Snow of Alton, and 1 sister, Mrs. Laura Smith of Alton. Final rites were held at the Otterville Baptist church Sunday afternoon, July 9, at 2 pm with Rev. Vale Walkington of Rural Route 3, Jerseyville officiating. Burial was in Noble cemetery. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
TRAUNECKER. Frances H. Traunecker, 78, of Alton, died at 3:57 am today, October 30, 1986, at St. Joseph’s hospital. Mrs Traunecker was employed at Owens-Illinois Glass Company for 9 years, retiring in 1947 as a selector. She was born in Fieldon, the daughter of the late Frank & Nora (Westfall) Kraushaar. On September 10, 1924, in Alton, she married Michael F. Traunecker, who died in 1969. 2 brothers survive, Leo Kraushaar of Godfrey and Frank Kraushaar of Hettick. Visitation is scheduled from 4-9 pm Friday at Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Godfrey. Services will be conducted there at 10:30 am Saturday by Rev. Lance Bently. Burial will be in Upper Alton cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey, where she was a member.
TRAVIS. Died 07-08-1890. Matilda Jane Travis, 61, died at home near Morrisonville, August 7, 1890. Born in Jersey County, May 8, 1829, she married H. C. Travis at Newbern March 28, 1850. They lived in Newbern until 1865 when she moved to Morrisonville. Formerly belonged to Baptist church, but since there was no Baptist church near, she joined the Dunkards.
TRENTON. Died 1908. Samuel Trenton, 49, died at home on E. Arch St. He was born December 12, 1858, in Iowa, moved to Missouri. He married Dorcas Powell at St. Francisville, Missouri February 14, 1885. He is survived by his wife, 2 children and 1 step-daughter in Los Angeles, California. The funeral, held from his home, was officiated by Rev. S. Catt, with burial in Oak Grove cemetery.
TREPP. IsaacTrepp, 62, former resident of Jerseyville, died at St. Louis Wednesday. Funeral from Jewish hospital on Sunday. He had conducted a dry goods store on S. State St.
TREPP. Died 1889. Last Sunday at 5 am GustaveTrepp, 31 years, 6 months, 6 days, died in St. Louis. Mr. Trepp came to this city in 1872 with a relative, Mr. Isaac Trepp, and clerked for the latter when that gentleman was in the building now occupied by Mrs. A. B. Hall. When Mr. Isaac Trepp took Mrs. A. B. Hall in as partner, Mr. Gustave Trepp remained with them and also after A. B. hall bought Isaac Trepp out. In the summer of 1883 he went to Centralia, Illinois, and opened a dry goods store but remained only a short time, returning to this city where he opened the store and established the firm of Trepp & Schmieder, dry goods, in September. 1882. In April, 1884, these gentlemen took in as partner, Mr. Benjamin Barnett, of St. Louis, a brother-in-law of Mr. Trepp, and the firm has ???as Trepp, schmeider ???, acting as business ???. May, 1883, he was married to Carrie Barnett, of St. Louis, a young lady of pleasing manners and happy disposition, with whom he lived happily till death and who regrets his loss with poignant sorrow. He leaves one child about seven months old. About 4 months ago he was attacked with an enlargement of the liver and went to St. Louis and placed himself under the care of Dr. Bernaybut nothing could be done for him and last Sunday, he died as stated. An autopsy showed his liver to be nearly the size of a water bucket, caused by cancer. Mr. Trepp was well liked here by those who knew him best and they deeply regret his untimely end. Under his supervision, aided of course by his partners, the firm prospered and 2 years ago they bought the building they now occupy and have sincethen improved it by additions. The funeral was held in St. Louis from the home of his wife’s parents, Monday afternoon attended by many friends in that city and also from here. With true business management he carried a life insurance of $6,000 in the New York Life, which, added to the money accummulated in business, leaves his widow and dau?son, sufficient to guard them against want. Burial in Mt. Olive cemetery.
TRIMBLE. Died 03-02-1982. Anna Mae Trimble, 90, of Oceanside, California, died on February 3, from a heart attack. She was born on October 23, 1899 in Greene County. She resided in Alton and began a nursing career at Barnes hospital. Later she decided to pursue a secretarial career as an employee of the US Army Engineers. In 1940 she and her mother moved to Washington, DC. During WWII, she traveled to Hawaii in the course of her employment. She retired after WWII and settled in California. She was the daughter of Harvey Trimble & Susan (Johnson) Trimble, and was a step-sister of Anna Burch Gilbert of Granite City, and the Late Clara Burch Berry, Andy Burch and Luella Rayfield Cope. She is survived by her step-sister, Mrs. Gilbert, and several nieces and nephews including Geneva Berry Barnett of Granite City and Allie Berry of Godfrey. Services were conducted by Pastor Vanderveur, Church of God, in Oceanside. Her ashes have been returned to Illinois and will be placed in Lax cemetery near Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the Coronary Heart Disease Research Project, or Lax cemetery. Any donations to the cemetery will be used to maintain the grounds.
TROTTER. Born 19-03-1844. Died 1905. Sarah Caroline (Simmons) Trotter, 60, died at her home on Spruce St. Her father’s family was among the first to make settlement in what is now Fidelity township. She married David Quinn Trotter, October 27, 1868. She was a charter member of Prarie Union Grange. She leaves her husband, 2 sons Charles and Thomas; 2 sisters, Mattie and Pollie. Funeral was held at the Methodist church, Rev. J. G. Dee officiating with burial in Oak Grove cemetery.
TROUT. Died 21-02-1981. Sheldon K. Trout, 50, of 706 W. Main St. Grafton died at 9:35 am February 21 at St. Joseph’s hospital in Alton. Born in Cicero May 19, 1930, he was the son of Dorothy (Grenendahl) Trout of Alton and the late Henry Trout. A veteran of the Korean conflict, he was a member of the Alton VFW 1308 and commander of Grafton American Legion Post 648. Trout was a mold maker at Owens Glass Mfg. in Alton. His survivors are his wife, the former Dorothy E. (Hooper); his mother; 1 son, Keith at home; 1 brother, Ronald, Godfrey; 3 sisters, Sandra Buettel, Godfrey, Karen Maple and Alena McNeal, Alton. Visitation from 4-9 pm Monday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The body will be moved at noon Tuesday to the Grafton Methodist church where visitation will continue until time of services at 2 pm. Rev. Robert Patterson will officiate. Grafton American Legion No. 648 will conduct military rites at Scenic Hill cemetery at Grafton.
