RHOADES. Buried 28-12-1959. Andrew William Rhoades, 68, a farmer of the Bethany vicinity, died December 25, 1959, at 4:30 am at Methodist hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Mr. and Mrs. Rhoades were holiday guests in the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Chaplain and Mrs. Raymond Liles, in Memphis when he was stricken with a heart attack. Final rites were held at Bethany Baptist church, Monday afternoon, December 28, at 2pm with Rev. Albert Monroe of Whitehall and Rev. J. Dallas Wallace of Jerseyville officiating. Interment was in Kane cemetery. Prior to the final rites friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Mr. Rhoades was a son of the late Andrew & Lillie (Hand) and was born in Jersey County on November 26, 1891. Mr. Rhoades was a deacon in Bethany Baptist church and served for more than 30 years as superintendent of Bethany sunday school. Surviving are his wife, Rose (Barry) Rhoades; 1 daughter, Mrs. Raymond Liles, and 1 grandson, Paddy Liles, both of Memphis Tennessee; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Harold Hand of Jerseyville and Mrs. Lee Shanks of Kane. 1 daughter, Lucille, died in infancy.
RHOADES. Died 06-11-1953. Henry Orville (Bill) Rhoades, 42 years, 9 months, and 16 days, of 618 Cleveland St. in Jerseyville was found dead in his car near his home at 5:40 pm Friday November 6. He had been in ill health for 6 months. The deceased was the son of the late Andrew A. & Lillie (Hand) Rhoades, and was born in Jersey County, January 29, 1911. He had been engaged in farming. Mr. Rhoades is survived by his wife, Eva (Boomer) Rhoades; 1 daughter, Janet Rhoades of Jerseyville; 1 brother, Andrew W. Rhoades of Kane and 2 sisters, Mrs. Lee Shands and Mrs. Harold Hand of Kane. He was a member of the Jerseyville Lodge, AF & AM. Funeral services were held at 3:30 pm Sunday, November 8, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. F. W. Schwarzlose, pastor of First Methodist church, officiated. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.
RHOADES. Died 12-12-1919. Mary (Bean) Rhoades, 40, died December 12, at the home of her brother, Leslie Bean, 6 miles west of Jerseyville. Funeral held from the Bean home with Rev. Joseph Jenkins and burial was in Lax cemetery.
RHOADES. Died 11-01-1928. Nettie B. Rhoades,77, died January 11 at the home of her son, Charles Rhoades in Alton. She had been a resident of Jersey County 50 years and was the daughter of Charles & Charlotte Carpenter. She was born on a steamboat on the Mississippi river between Keokuk, and Alton, Illinois on November 1, 1851. She married John W. Anderson. 2 children were born to them; 1 son died in infancy, 1 daughter Mrs. Charles Briggs of Delhi, Illinois in 1878 she married William Rhoades, a pioneer of Jersey County. They were parents of 3 children; Charles Rhoades of Alton, Alfred R. of St. Louis and 1 daughter who died at the age of 2. 1 brother, George Carpenter of Chautauqua, Illinois, 1 sister Annie Osborn, of Miami Oklahoma, 12 grandchildren. She belonged to Elsah ME Church for 40 years and was their oldest member at the time of her death. Rev. M. E. Johnson of Kokomo, Indiana and Rev. Dan S. Ferloch of Elsah held the service on January 14, and burial was in Elsah cemetery. Sisters of Silver Moon Lodge of Elsah were in charge of rites.
RHOADS. Died 05-05-1982. Bertha L. Rhoads, 79, of Third St. Jerseyville died at 8:30 am May 5 at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home. Services were held Friday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville with Rev. R. E. George officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. She was born October 3, 1902 in Shipman, a daughter of James Levi & Sarah Elizabeth (Howerton) Kirby. Her survivors are her husband Carey C. Rhoads of Jerseyville; 2 sons, Robert C. Rhoades of Mattawa, Washington, and John W. Rhoads of Godfrey; 5 daughters, Kathyrn M. Handling, Godfrey, Betty Louise Wilson, Grand Ridge, Doris Lucille Jennings, Ottawa, Helen Virginia Van Hyning, Tonica, Mary Frances Houseright, Marion; 24 grandchildren, g-grandchildren; 1 sister Dorothy Rath of Phoenix, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, Carl, 2 brothers and 1 sister. Memorials may be given to American Society.
RHOADS. Died 17-07-1982. Carey C. Rhoads, 86, of 909 third St., Jerseyville died July 17, at Jersey Community hospital. Services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville with Rev. R. E. George officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. He was born January 20, 1896 in Shipman, a son of Walter A. and Sarah E. Rhoads. The WWI veteran was formerly a production worker at Olin, and then a custodian at the Jerseyville post office. He is survived by 2 sons, Robert C. Rhoads of Mattawa, Washington, and John W. Rhoads of Godfrey; 5 daughters, Kathryn M. Handling of Godfrey, Betty Louise Wilson of Grand Ridge, Doris Lucille Garcarnz of Ottawa, Helen Virginia Van Hyning of Tonica and Mary Frances Housewright of Marion; – incomplete.
RHOADS. Died 1928. Emma B. Rhoads, 76, wife of Samuel H. Rhoads, died at her home on Wednesday evening. Rev. A. B. Carson and Rev. Joseph Jenkins. Burial was in Pruitt cemetery. She leaves her husband 5 sons, Lawrence and Ralph of Stuttgart, Arkansas, John of Detroit, Michigan, guy of Columbus, Ohio and Ray of Chicago.
RHOADS. Died 03-06-1960. Mrs. Emma Catherine Rhoads, 83 years, 7 months, 6 days, a former Jersey County resident, died Friday evening June 3. She was the widow of Samuel E. Rhoads. Services were held Monday afternoon June 6, at 3 pm at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Edgar Vance of Alton officiated at the services and interment was in Valhalla Memorial cemetery. She was a daughter of the Late Nelson & Esther M. (Antwerp) Tisdale and was born October 27, 1876 in Grafton. The decedent is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Esther Spurgeon of Alton and Mrs. Jane Miller of Dearborn, Michigan, 3 sons, Charles E. Rhoads of Collinsville, Melvin A. Rhoads of East Alton and Howard E. Rhoads of Godfrey. She also leaves 7 grandchildren and 6 g-grandchildren. Mrs. Rhoads was a member of First Presbyterian church in Alton.
RHODES. Died 14-04-1986. Birdie Elizabeth Rhodes, 91, who was a resident at Jersey Care Center, died April 14, at Jersey Community hospital. She was born February 3, 1895, in Jersey County, the daughter of the late John H. & Laura E. (Storey) Gorrell. She Married Mitchell Monroe Rhodes on October 16, 1912, and he preceded her in death. She is survived by 1 son Edward M. Rhodes of Alton; 2 grandchildren; 3 g-grandchildren and 1 g-g-grandchild. Funeral services were held at 11 am April 18 at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville with Rev. Marvin W. Depenning of Brown Street Baptist church in Alton officiating. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. Memorials may be given to American Cancer society.
RHODES. Marjorie Rhodes, 46, died unexpectedly at 12:10 am Wednesday, April 6, 1988, at her residence. She was born in Illinois, daughter of the late Ralplh Douglas and Molly (Lowery) Rhodes. She is survived by her foster parents, Murral & Pauline Stark of Jerseyville. Visitation was at 12 noon Friday until time of service at 1 pm at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Mike Michaels will officiate. Burial will be in Grimes-Neeley cemetery, west of Jerseyville.
RICE. Died 06-1926. Andrew Jackson Rice, 93, died at home on W. Pearl St. Funeral was from home, Rev. Carson officiating and burial was in Lax cemetery. He was born in Greene County, March 27, 1832 son of Wm. & Cynthia (Wood) Rice, natives of Kentucky. He became a blacksmith. In 1860 he purchased land in English Township. Sept 23, 1858, he married Mary E. (Short), the daughter of Alfred & Susanna Short. Surviving are 4 sons, Dr. J. O. Rice, Joseph A. Rice, of Kane and Harry and William Rice; 1 daughter, Mrs. T. F. Williams of Kane. Mrs. Rice died 11 years ago.
RICE. Died 05-08-1978. Dorothy Lee Rice, 59, of 104 S. Lafayette, Jerseyville died at 2:30 am August 5 at St. Mary medical center in St. Louis. The funeral will be held at 2 pm August 8, at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville with Rev. Everett Chambers officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. She was born in Medora January 26, 1919, the daughter of Nadean (Moore) Warner of Jerseyville and the late Russell Warner. Her survivors are her mother; 2 sons, William A. Rice of Jerseyville and James W. Rice of Houston, Texas; 2 grandchildren. Mrs. Rice was a member of First Baptist church and the Jersey Community Hospital Auxiliary. Visitation will be held from 4-9 pm Monday at Gubser Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to First Baptist church Jerseyville.
RICE. Died 01-1919. Elizabeth Rice, 44, only daughter of Lloyd English died at her home in Jerseyville. She was born in English township, December 6, 1874. She married Harry Rice May 29, 1894. She was a proficient pianist and graduated in music from Shurtleff College and from a St. Louis school. Surviving are her aged father and 2 sons, Harven and Nelson. Funeral from Baptist church with Rev. Joseph Jenkins officiating and burial in Oak Grove cemetery.
RICE. Died 01 02-1897. Emily Rice, 35, wife of Samuel R. Rice, died at her home 3 miles north east of Jerseyville on February 1. Rev. J. J. Porter officiated at the funeral held at the Baptist church in Jerseyville. Burial in Lax cemetery.
RICE. Died 03-03-1984. George Rice, 73, died March 30 at Incarnate Word hospital in St. Louis. A private graveside service was held at Oak Grove cemetery, April 07 with Rev. Simon A. Simon of Jerseyville officiating. He was born January 5, 1911 in Jersey County, he was a son of the late Joseph a & Maybelle (Erwin) Rice and was a Navy veteran. He is survived by his wife, Valeria (Mielke) Rice whom he married May 18, 1935 in St. Louis; 1 daughter, Diana Kay Rice of St. Louis; 2 brothers, Kenneth & Kentner Rice both of Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to Memorial Project, Inc. (Handicapped Children), 6301 Manchester, St. Louis, Missouri 61129 C/o Sue Petersn.
RICE. Died 04-1981. Harvey Rice, 85, a native of Jerseyville, now of Ridgeland, Miss., died Tuesday evening at the VA hospital in Jackson, Miss. He was a retired insurance salesman, and the son of the late Harry H. & Elizabeth (English) Rice. The WWI veteran was married to the former Martha J. Rice. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are 2 sons, Donald of Cherry Point, NC and Gene of Wood River; and 4 grandchildren. There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be conducted at 10 am Friday in Oak Grove cemetery, Jerseyville with Dr. Fred Luchs officiating. Jacoby brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of arrangements.
RICE. Died 01-09-1988. James Warner Rice, 47, of Houston, Texas, died September 1, in Houston, Texas. He was the son of the late S. Jackson “Jack” & Dorothy Lee (Warner) Rice. He was employed 20 years by Baker-Hughes Tool Company. He married Barbara (Ahrling) Rice June 29, 1968 in Shipman. She survives. Other survivors include 1 brother, William A. “Bill” Rice of Jerseyville and nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held September 6, 1988, in Houston, Texas. The body was cremated following the service.
RICE. Jerry D. Rice, 52, died at 3 pm Monday, May 12, 1986, at Greenwood Manor in Jerseyville after a lengthy illness. He served in the US Air Force and Coast Guard, and was employed with the Department of Cons Div of Forestry. Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, son of the late Joseph & Anna (Hubbard) Rice, he married Saundra (Kirgan) Rice on May 30, 1970. She survives, in addition to a – incomplete.
RICE. John Adrian Rice, 55, died unexpectedly at 2:40 am Sunday, November 18, 1990 at Jersey Community hospital. Rice worked in Jerseyville as a clerk at Imperial Gas Station for 20 years, manager at 16 West Quick Shop for 15 years and was a clerk at Moto-Mart at the time of his death. He was a member of Mount Gilead Baptist church of Carrollton. Born in Greene County, he was the son of John H. & Freeda (Tillery) Rice of Jerseyville. On June 20, 1953, in Carrollton he married Wanda (Clark) Rice and she survives. In addition to his wife and parents, surviving are 1 daughter Bonnie A. Rice of Jerseyville; 2 sons, Dennis A. Rice of Beardstown and Richard D. Rice of Jerseyville; and 2 grandchildren. Visitation is from 4-9 pm today at Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with services at 11 am Tues. Rev. L. E. Hutchinson will officiate. Burial is in Borlin cemetery near Carrollton. Memorials may be given to American Heart Association.
RICE. Died 1927-1928. Rev. John W. Rice, 97, a member of a pioneer family of Medora, and one of the oldest resident of Macoupin County, died at his home, of old age infirmities. Funeral was from Medora Baptist church with burial in Medora cemetery. “Uncle Jack” was for many years a prominent figure in the Medora community. He came to this section in 1835 with his parents, Judge & Mrs. Thomas B. Rice from Virginia to “Rhoads Point”, a settlement which later became Medora. He reared several children and some that he took into the home. The old homestead which was built in 1835 at the southern edge of Medora and is still in a good state of preservation. 3 of the children of Judge and Mr. Rice have occupied the old home together and it was here also that “Uncle Jack”, the oldest of the group, has just ended his career. Surviving 1 sister Mrs. Emma Van Horbeke, formerly a resident of Jerseyville, and 1 brother Charles A. Rice. One of the pioneer Baptist preachers of Macoupin County he retired after 25 years of service. He was a g-uncle of the late Wallace Reid , famous movie actor. Reid’s mother, Bertha (Westbrook) Reid, being a niece of the aged minister.
RICE. Died 31-03-1947. Joseph A. Rice, 84 years, 30 days, member of a well known Jersey County family, died at his home in English Township, at 12:30 am Monday March 31. Mr. Rice had been ill for some time. He was the son of the late and Rev. J. & Elizabeth (Shortf) Rice and he was born in Jersey County, March 1, 1863. Mr. Rice engaged in farming for a number of years, and although he retired from active work a few years ago, but maintained an active interest in agriculture. He is survived by his wife, Mary M. Rice, 3 sons, Kenneth & Kentner Rice of Jerseyville and George Rice of St. Louis, and 1 brother, W. A. Rice of Jerseyville. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon April 2 at 2:30 in the Presbyterian church in Jerseyville. Rev. David B. Maxton officiated at the – incomplete.
RICE. Died 12-1901. Margaret Rice, nee Dixon, was born in Cumberland County, New Jersey, November 11, 1830. She moved to Illinois in 1862. She married Louis Gilworth, January 30, 1868. Later married Rev. J. W. Rice. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.

RICE. Buried 26-04-1976. Mary E. Rice, 85, who resided at d’adrian convalescent center, Godfrey, died at 8:50 am on April 23 at the Nursing Home. She was a sister of Mrs. Inez Frazer and Mrs. Eva Rhoads, both of Jerseyville, and Mrs. Lottie Calender of Alton. Other survivors include her 3 sons, Robert of Alton, Joseph of Tucson, Arizona and Dudley of Chicago; 1 daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Mayberry of Edwardsville; 14 grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren.
RICE. Died 1915. Mary Elizabeth Rice, 77 years, 10 months, 1 day, beloved wife of A. J. Rice, died at the couples home at 7 am. She was born April 18, 1837, to Alfred & Susan Short, in English Township. She married Andrew Jackson Rice September 23, 1858, and the couple remained on the short form, where the decedent spent half a century, coming to our city 3 years ago. Since January 25 of this year the venerable and highly respected lady was afflicted with sickness which with progressing time took a firmer grip of her till the thread of life was snatched. Funeral services were conducted at the home at 1:30 pm Sunday by Rev. W. S. Neely and interment was made in Lax cemetery near the homestead in English Township. Those left to cherish the memory of the good lady are: the venerable husband; 4 sons, Joseph A. and Harry H., both on the farm, and William Alfred and Dr. James Orville, both of Jerseyville; 1 daughter, Mrs. T. F. Williams of Kane; 8 grandchildren; 2 half brothers, T. J. Erwin of Kane and J. D. Erwin of English Township, 1 half sister Miss Lucy Erwin of Nelson, Washington. The last tribute of love and respect was paid by the following parties from a distance: Mr. & Mrs. Doug Rice, Russell Rice and Charles Whittaker of Girard, Illinois; Mr. & Mrs. W. A. Rice of Alton; G. E. Whitten, Mrs. Cedelia Randle and Miss Love Erwin of Granite City; Mr. & Mrs. Pleasant Short, Mr. & Mrs. Elmer Short and Mr. & Mrs. Julius Hutcheons of Carrollton and Miss Anna Hubbard and many other of the Kane vicinity.
RICE. Died 10-03-1961. Mary Maybelle Rice, 81 years, 7 months, 8 days, widow of Joseph a Rice, died at 10:20 am Friday March 10 at waters Nursing Home where she had resided the past 6 months. Funeral services were held at 2 pm March 13, Rev. M. Edwards Breed, pastor of First Presbyterian church officiated and burial was in Lax cemetery. Friends called at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, prior to the services. Mrs. Rice was the daughter of the Late Nathan & Mary E. (Billingsey) Porter and was born in Warrensburg, Missouri. A resident of Jersey County for the past 54 years, Mrs. Rice had resided for many of those years on a farm northwest of Jerseyville. She is survived by 3 sons, Kenneth B. & Kentner E. of Jerseyville and George E. Rice of St. Louis and 2 grandchildren.
RICE. Died 11-1984. S. Jackson “Jack” Rice, 70, died at 10:40 am Sunday at Missouri Baptist hospital in St. Louis. He was owner-operator/chairman of the board of W. A. Rice Seed Company in Jerseyville, which was his lifetime occupation of 50 years. He was born in Jerseyville, son of the late Dr. J. Orville & Olive (Hardeway) Rice. He married Janet (Edwards) Rice July 24, 1979 in Jerseyville. Surviving are his wife; 2 sons, James W. of Houston, Texas and William A. II of Jerseyville; 3 grandchildren; and 1 sister Elizabeth Short of San Diego, California. Visitation will be from 4-9 Tuesday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The funeral will be conducted at the Funeral Home at 2 pm Wednesday with Rev. R. E. George officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to Arthritis Foundation and the Music Fund of the First United Methodist church of which he was a member.
RICE. Died 1983. Samuel F. Rice, 51, of 700 Sinclair Ave., died at 2:35 pm Friday at Barnes hospital, St. Louis. He was a foreman in the catalytic cracking Department at Shell Oil Company in Wood River. Born in Jersey County, son of the late Sam & Katherine (Walz) Rice, he married Yoshie (Yoshida) Rice on August 20, 1951 in Japan. In addition to his wife surviving are his step-mother, Very Bowen of Alton; 1 daughter, Susan Larson of Springfield; and 1 brother, Don of Huston, Texas. Visitation will be after 4 pm Sunday at Marks Mortuary where services will be held at 10:30 am Monday with Rev. Manley Mace officiating. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society.
RICE. Died 27-01-1956. Sharon Delvetta Rice, 13, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Odell Rice of R2 Brighton, died of a brain hemorrhage at Jersey Community hospital at 3 pm Sunday January 27. Sharon, an eighth grade student at East elementary school in Jerseyville, appeared to be in good health and her death came as a shock to her family, schoolmates and friends. After eating sunday dinner, the young girl had helped her mother with the dishes. Shortly thereafter she went into her room and when her parents heard her cry out they went to her and found her suffering from a severe pain in her head. She was rushed to the hospital where death occurred about 2 hours after she was admitted as a patient. An autopsy was performed by Dr. Henry halley of Alton and the cause of death was established as a brain hemorrhage. Sharon was born in Knobel, Arkansas, March 11, 1943. The family had lived in Jersey County for the past 16 years, and until 4 months ago they had resided on a farm southwest of Jerseyville on Route 3. A brother of Sharon died at the age of 1 & 1/2. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville until Tuesday when the body was taken to Corning, Arkansas, where funeral services are to be held Thursday. Burial will be in Corning cemetery.
RICH. Died 1905. Mrs. Arthur Rich, 23, died at her home near Fidelity. Funeral was from her home. Rev. J. T. Brown officiating.
RICH. Died 09-1960. Alice Rich, 84, of Medora, died Wednesday am at Carlinville area hospital where she had been a patient the greater part of the time since receiving injuries in a fall last March 14. Mrs. Rich, daughter of the late Paul & Hanna (Van Pelt) Thatcher, was born in Jerseyville, January 29, 1876. Most of her live following her marriage to the late James H. Rich on October 21, 1897, was spent on a farm 2 miles west of Medora. She was a member of Jerseyville Baptist church and the Royal Neighbors of America. In addition to her Brother, Roy, Carl, and Arthur Thatcher, of Jerseyville, she is survived by 1 son, Russell Rich of Litchfield; 2 grandsons, and 3 g-grandchildren. Friends called at Warner Funeral Home after 4 pm Thursday. Funeral services were held there at 2 pm Friday, and burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery.
RICH. Died 09-04-1985. Alonzo (Lonnie) W. Rich, 80, of Jerseyville, died April 9 at Jersey Community hospital. He was born March 11, 1905, in Jerseyville to the late George Rich and Caroline (Kline) Rich. He married Marie (Staata) Rice on April 20, 1929, in Jerseyville. He was a commercial driver for Jacksonville Bus Line. (He also drove a school bus for Jersey Community District 100 for several years). RICH. Jack W. Rich, 75, died at 3 am Saturday, March 10, 1990, at St. John’s Skilled Nursing Center, Creve Coeur, Missouri. He was a lifetime Jersey County farmer, retiring in 1978, and a past committee chairman of the ASCS. Born in Jersey County, he was the son of the Late Arthur R. and Irma R. (O’neil) Rich. On August 18, 1940, in Carlinville, he married the former Mary R. Dodge. She died November 27, 1987. Surviving are 2 daughters, Laura Buchheit of Manchester, Missouri, and Jackie Miller of Murphysboro; 4 granddaughters; 1 brother, Joseph Rich of Northbrook; and 1 sister Lorraine Bethel of New Florence, Missouri. Preceding him in death were 1 brother, Robert A. Rich; and 1 sister Razpah Rich. Visitation is from 6-9 pm Monday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Visitation continues from 10 am Tuesday until time of service at 11 am at First Baptist church in Jerseyville, where he was a member. Revs Earl D. Clagg and Walter C. Burn? will officiate. RICH. Died 1927. James Hooper Rich, 54, died at home 1 mile nw of Fidelity. Funeral from Baptist church at Fidelity. Rev. A. B. Carson officiating with burial in Oak Grove cemetery. He was born in Fidelity, August 16, 1872, son of Samuel & Hannah (Grandy) Rich. The former was a native of England and came to the US in 1851. The mother of the deceased was a native of Greene County. He received his education in area schools and attended Shurtleff College. In October 1897 he married Alice Thatcher, daughter of Paul C. & Hanna (Van Pelt) Thatcher. The couple had 1 son, Russell T. Rich; he and mother survive; also 2 Sons, Arthur Rich of Fidelity and William Rich of Enid, OK; 3 daughters, Mrs. Roy Birkenmeyer of Fidelity, Mrs. J. D. Wilson of Christian County, Mrs. Clara Beeby of Chicago; 1 daughter in law, Mrs. Russell T. Rich, and 1 grandson, Russell Forrest Rich of Fidelity.
RICH. Mary R. Rich, 68, died at 12:15 pm Friday November 27, 1987, at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was born in Macoupin County, daughter of the late Fred L. & Rena (Elliot) Dodge. She married Jack W. Rich on August 18, 1940, and he survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Laura Buchheit of Manchester, Missouri, and Jackie Miller of Murphysboro; 4 granddaughters; 2 brothers, Robert G. Dodge of Roodhouse and Lewis E. Dodge of Bethalto; and 1 sister Marforie Clymer of Chesterfield, Missouri. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm Sunday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. At the First Baptist church of Jerseyville, visitation will continue from 9-10am, when the funeral will begin. Rev. John Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Medora cemetery. RICH. R. T. Rich, 46, died at his home in Fidelity Township, August 7, 1880. Mr. Rich was born in Devonshire, England, February 12, 1834. He came to this country in 1851, and the next year moved to Jersey County. He was engaged in farming. He was married on November 29, 1855 to Alzina (Clardy) Rich. They had 4 children – the son dying in infancy and 3 daughters. His wife died in November 1867. In Sept., 1868, he married Alice F. (Hauskins) Rich who survives. Services from Baptist church.

RICHARDS. Died 06-1907. Christopher Guy Richards, 51, born in Jersey County, March 24, 1856, son of Guy C. and Hannah (Pope) Richards. In December 1881, he wed Hattie L. (Greene) Richards, oldest daughter of Singleton F. & Eliza J. Greene. 2 sons Wanter and Guy survive. He was known as “Crit” to his friends. Baptist church.

RICHARDS. Died 1942. Guy S. Richards, 58, employed for the last 15 years as one of the superintendents of the Cooke Valley Farm, south of Eldred, died suddenly about 5 am Tuesday at Boyd Memorial hospital. He had entered the hospital Monday for treatment of a heart ailment. A service was held at the family residence south of Eldred at 1 pm Thursday preceding the church service at 2:30 pm held at Kane Baptist church. Burial was in Kane cemetery. Rev. L. E. Mustain officiated at the service. Mr. Richards was born January 5, 1884, in Kane. His parents were the late Christopher & Hattie L. (Greene) Richards. He attended school in Kane and in 1906-7 was a student at Washington U in St. Louis. His marriage to Miss Middie M. Vinyard of White Hall took place March 5, 1913. He engaged in farming near Kane until taking up his work on Cooke Valley Farms. He is survived by his wife, 1 son, Benton of Alton, 1 Daughter, Middie Lou of St. Louis, and 1 brother, Louis Richards, Kane Township supervisor. 1 daughter, Mrs. Guyla Battershell died March 9, 1940. Pall bearers were Lee Bushnell, Dick Frech, Sidney Simpson, Marmon Gimmy, Rupert Valentine, Peter Achenbach, Charles Meek and Beverly Farrow, Jr. The flowers were in charge of Mrs. Leslie Hawk, Mrs. Walter Brown, Mrs. Beverly Farrow, Mrs. Marion Gimmy, Mrs. Rupert Valenting and Miss Winifred Close.
RICHARDS. Capt J. L. C. Richards, 77, died at his home in Colorado City, Colorado, Monday October 12, 1908. Funeral in Colorado City, then remains brought to Jerseyville for burial. From Presbyterian church, where members of GAR and Odd Fellows attended. Born August 26, 1832 near Springfield, New Jersey. Inherited from his grandfather Capt John L. Clark, officer in the regular army of the War of 1812, a warm love and deep interest in whatever pertained to the good of the country. Having come west in 1855, he was one of the thousands of young men who enlisted in the northern Army during the Civil War. He was one of the first to enlist in the 124th Regiment, Illinois Inf., and took part in several engagements, including the Siege of Vicksburg and the Battle of Champion Hill. Served through the war, and at the close was Captain of Company C. He was the first commander of the local Post of the GAR. In 1859 he married Mary A. (Corbett) Richards. They first resided in Upper Alton, Illinois. 4 sons W. P. Richards of Jerseyville, J. L. C. Richards, Jr., of Oakside, Missouri, H. H. Richards, G. A. Richards of Summerville, Missouri; 3 daughters, Mrs. E. H. Charles and Mrs. S. J. Baskett, of Summerville, Missouri and Mrs. K. G. Morley of Warren, Arkansas. At the close of the war he moved to where he continued live until 1883, then for benefit of his health, moved to southern Missouri. His wife died there. He married Mrs. Margaret Wood of New York City who with children and 3 sisters survive him. He joined the Presbyterian church in Jerseyville. While on a visit to Jerseyville, just 2 years ago he expressed desire that when the end should come he might be laid to rest amid the pleasant associations of other years. Pallbearers were: J. K. Cadwallader, A. C. Johnson, J. S. Malott and R. C. Gledhill all of whom, except the last named, were members of Capt. Richards Company in the Civil War.

RICHARDS. Died 27-02-1974. Lazetta O. Richards of Jerseyville, mother of Mrs. R. W. (Nancy) Gustafson of Jerseyville, died at 5:30 am February 27, at Jersey Community hospital. Final services will be conducted Saturday, March 2, from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville at 2 pm with Rev. James Boyer of Godfrey officiating. Interment will be in Alton City cemetery. She was born in Jersey County January 31, 1884 the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Albert Jenni. Survivors are 1 son, Ernest Godfrey of East St. Louis, and 3 daughters, Mrs. J. Shelby (Ilah) Putnam of Alvin, Texas, Mrs. E. G. (Helen) Weilmuenster of Godfrey and Mrs. Gustafson; 6 grandchildren and 6 g-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville after 4 pm Friday March 1. Memorials may be given to Jersey County Red Cross chapter.
RICHARDS. Died 06-1911. Mary, 65, daughter of Guy C. & Hannah (Pope) Richards died recently. She was born in Jersey County, near Kane, Illinois, November 27, 1846. She was the eldest of 6 children. (See Erwin).
RICHARDS. Died 04-1894. Mary A. (Corbett) Richards, 58, was born in Bristol, RI, February 12, 1836. She married J. L. C. Richards in 1859. Moved to Upper Alton at the opening of the late war, when husband felt it of be his privilege and duty to enter the service of his country. With their oldest child in her arms, his brave wife bade him goodbye, bidding him god speed. After 3 years of separation, upon his return, they settled in Jerseyville, then to Missouri to seek better health, in 1883. Presbyterian church. Parents of 7 children. They and her husband survive. RICHARDSON. Died 30-08-1973. Milton Richardson, formerly of Medora, died August 30 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Funeral services were conducted Saturday am in Dallas. A son of Edward & Belle (Clampitt) Richardson of Medora, he was graduated from Medora High School with the class of 1910. Mr. Richardson was employed with Brown Biscuit & Candy Company of St. Louis as a salesman for over 50 years. When his health began to fail he was transferred to Dallas. He was a former member of Medora Methodist church and – incomplete.
RICHARTS. Died 1904. Mrs. C. E. Richarts died at her home in Bloomington. The body was brought to Jerseyville, to the home of her mother, Mrs. Wm. Hall from which place the funeral was held. Rev. J. G. Dee officiated. Mr. Richarts left after the funeral for Indianapolis, Indiana, for the funeral of his mother. Lizzie A. (Hall) was born in Jersey County Illinois, in 1856, and married C. E. Richarts December 18, 1890. She was a member of the Methodist church. Surviving are her husband, 1 son, her mother and 1 brother.
RICHER. Died 1897. Miss Lena Richer, 23, daughter of Samuel Richer, south of Delhi, was killed by a local freight train on C & A coming north.
RICHEY. Richey, the son of late Vincent & Emeline Jane (Crossett) Richey, was born in Jersey County, January 4, 1873, and has spent his entire life in here. His parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister all died early in life. Richey established his home in Jerseyville in 1901 following his marriage to Esther L. (Blish) Richey whose death occurred December 31, 1935. 5 children survive; Mrs. Paul Berthoux, Paul Richey of Jerseyville, Francis Richey of Jacksonville, Sylvester Richey of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Glen Thomas of Springfield. There are 10 grandchildren in the family.
RICHEY. James Richey, 22, died May 4, 1886, of consumption. He was the son of Mord and Sarah Richey. Funeral was from their home.
RICHEY. Died 08-01-1914. Caleb Stuart Richey, 78 years, 1 month and 16 days, died at his home in Jerseyville. He was a native of Illinois and born November 23, 1835, since several years he was afflicted with cancer and was confined to bed only a few days before his death. The funeral took place Saturday at 9:30 am from his home to the Armstrong cemetery, Rev. E. Hanna officiating. Those surviving the man who always attended ernest activity are: his wife Mrs. Mary Richey; 1 son, Vincent E. Richey, living 8 miles west of town; 1 brother John Richey of Jerseyville and 6 grandchildren; Mrs. Effie M. Stamp of Brighton, Mrs. Anna Hefner of Eldred, Clarence R, Bryan J, Stella E. and Floyd E. Richey; 4 g-grandchildren and a host of friends.

RICHEY. Earl C. Richey, Sr., 82, of Medora, died at 5 pm Friday, November 28, 1986 at Jersey Community hospital. A retired farmer, born in Jersey County, he was a son of the late J. Vincent Richey & Elizabeth (Springman) Richey Smith. He married Alice (Kaufmann) Richey on January 16, 1928 in Alton, and she survives. Surviving in addition to his wife, are 5 daughters, Esther Searls and Doris Elliott, both of Medora, Dorothy Loy of Patterson, California, Joann Taylor of Collinsville, and Loretta Farrell of Alton; 1 son, Earl C. Richey, Jr., of Medora; 24 grandchildren; 23 g-grandchildren; 5 sisters, Nell Gowin of Granite City, Loretta Doerr of East Alton, Alice Parton of Dow, Iva Osburn of Jerseyville, Annie Osburn of Grafton, 1 brother, Joseph Vincent Richey of Jerseyville; and 1 half-sister, Ethel Maroney of Marshalltown, IA. Visitation will be from 5-9 pm Sunday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Visitation will continue there from 8-11 am Monday when the body will be taken to Bethel Baptist church, where visitation will continue from 12 noon until time of services at 2 pm Monday with Rev. Earl Clagg officiating. Burial will be in Medora cemetery. Memorials may be given to Medora ambulance service.
RICHEY. Died 08-1911. Harold Richey, 4, son of John & Esther Richey, died as the result of electrocution. Mon afternoon, about 5 pm Harold was playing in the yard of Mrs. A. W. Cross in company of his little brother and other boys. The boys reside near the Cross home and frequently went there to play with little Andrew Cross Davis. Monday afternoon Mrs. Cross had come to the home of James A. Barr, whose birthday anniversary was observed. The other folks had also gone away. The boys played about the yard as they were accustomed to do. The storm early in the am had blown down the electric wire that runs from the dwelling to the barn. Harold took hold of this wire and was electrocuted. His little brother saw that Harold was in trouble and tried to extricate him from the wire but could not. “Cack” Smith saw the boys and hastened to assist. He put on his gloves and pulled Harold from the wire that had coiled about his person, but life had passed out of him. A physician was hastily called, but nothing could be done to bring back life. Since the light system has been changed from an alternating to a direct current there is greater danger. Coroner Hunt held an inquest Tuesday am. The jury gave a verdict of accidental death from a live wire. It is stated when the boys saw the black wire in the grass they thought it was licorice, which they had been buying at the candy stores. The funeral service was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John G. blish, Wednesday at 2:30 pm. Rev. W. H. Jordan, pastor of the Presbyterian church officiated.
RICHEY. Harriet M. Richey, 76, died at 1:42 pm Tuesday, September 20, 1988, at her residence. She had been employed as a custodian at Monticello College in Godfrey. Born in Eldred, she was the daughter of the late Archie & Fannie (Lowder) Bushnnell of Milan. 6 brothers and 3 sisters preceded her in death. There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 am Friday at Oak Grove cemetery. Jacoby brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville will be in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to American Heart Association.
RICHEY. Died 12-09-79. Joseph Bryan Richey, 84, of Metropolis died at 9:30 pm September 12 in South Gate Nursing Home, Metropolis. Services were held Saturday at Whitnel Funeral Home in Vienna with burial in Cypress Masonic Cemetery, Cypress. He was born in Jersey County April 19, 1895 and attended Jersey County schools. His parents were the Late Vincent E. & Mary (Czaia) Richey. Richey operated a grocery store and trucking service in nurwood during the late 1920’s and early 30’s. He moved southern Illinois in 1936 where he engaged in farming and also ran a grocery store near fienna during the 1940’s and 1950’s. He was a WWI veteran. He was married to Ida Mae (Clark) Richey in 1920; she died in 1951. His survivors are his wife Maude Richey, whom he married in 1951; 3 Sons, Clark of Momence, Wiliferd of Cordova and Paul of Hommosassa Springs, Florida. 1 daughter, Anna Mae Morgan of Springfield; 1 brother, floyd Richey of Jerseyville; several grandchildren and g-grandchildren. 3 brothers and 3 sisters preceded him in death.
RICHEY. Joseph Vincent Richey, 69, of Jerseyville, died September 18, 1988, at Jersey Community hospital. He was born November 12, 1918, in Jersey County, Otterville Township, the son of the late Joseph Vincent Richey & Elizabeth (Springman) Richey Smith. He married Ruth (Frazer) Richey December 5, 1942 in El Paso, Texas. She survives. He was a veteran of WWII Army 1st Clavary Div., artillery. He was employed 38 years as a mechanic and service man at Cordes Motor Company in Alton; retiring in 1980. He was a member of American Legion Post 492 and United Methodist church of Jerseyville. Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Donna Kay Postelwait of Dow, Marsha R. Schroeder of Grafton; 4 grandsons; 1 g-granddaughter; 6 sisters, Nell Gowin of Granite City, Loretta Doerr of East Alton, Alice Parton of Dow, Iva Osburn of Jerseyville, Annie Osburn of Grafton, Helen Stocker of Bethalto. He was proceeded in death by 1 son, Michael Vincent Richey; 1 brother, Earl Richey, and 1 half-sister, Ethel Maroney. Funeral services were September 21, 1988, at United Methodist church in Jerseyville with Rev. Dan Harry officiating. Burial was in Fieldon cemetery, where military graveside rites were performed by American Legion Post 492. Memorials may be given to United Methodist church in Jerseyville. RICHEY. Died 22-08-1982. Mary J. Richey, 59, former librarian at Jerseyville Free Library, died at 12:45 am August 22 at Greenwood Manor. She had been ill for sometime. She was born September 15, 1922 in Jerseyville the daughter of Earl & Mary L. (McFain) Burge. She married Paul P. Richey, and he died July 6, 1970. Mrs. Richey served as chairman of the Red Cross Bloodmobile for many years. She is survived by her mother; 1 son, David Richey of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; 1 brother, James Burge, Jerseyville and 1 granddaughter, Kate Richey. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville at 10:30 am August 24 with Rev. R. E. George of United Methodist church officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to American Cancer society and United Methodist church of Jerseyville.

Interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Born April 28, 1919 in Jerseyville he was the son of the late John & Esther Louise (Blish) Richey. A veteran of WWII and the Korean conflict, he was with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for several years. Mr. Richey was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, No. 4528, and Westlake Country Club. He was formerly an employee of the Democrat News. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo (Burge) Richey; 1 son, David Porter Richey of Cambridge, Mass.; 2 brothers, Francis of Jacksonville and Sylvester of Los Angeles, California; 2 sisters, Mrs. Emma Thomas of Phoenix, Arizona, and Mrs. Virginia Berthoux of Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the Cancer fund.
RICHEY. Died 1973. Sharon Sue Richey, 31, died at Springfield Memorial hospital after an extended illness. Final rites were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville Saturday afternoon with Rev. Dorcie Hill officiating. Interment was in White Hall cemetery. She was born March 22, 1941 in White Hall, a daughter of Clyde & Lillian (Ward) Kirgan. Mrs. Richey was a medical secretary. Her survivors are her husband, Gail B. Richey; 2 Sons, Bryan Gail and Clinton Dale; her parents; 2 Sisters, Sandy Simpson of Jerseyville and Becky Kirgan of Kane; 2 brothers, Malcolm Kirgan of Medora, and Michael Kirgan of Brighton. Memorials may be given to the Bryan and Clinton Richey Educational fund.
RICHEY. Died 20-03-1869. Stephen M. Richey, 77, died at his home near Fieldon on March 20 of lung fever. He was born May 12, 1791 in Red Stone, Penn. His parents came from Ireland in 1790. In 1794 the moved to the west descending the Ohio River to Cincinnati, Ohio, when that place was only a village. Then they moved to Harrison County, KY. His father died in 1806. Steven was one of 7 children and survived all the rest more than 16 years. He was a veteran of the War of 1812 serving under Gen. Harrison. He married Sarah (Browning) Richey on May 28, ????. They moved to Cincinnati, where he was in merchandising. They were parents of 9 sons and 3 daughters; 8 of the sons survive him. 4 of his sons served in the late war, and all of them, like true patriots, vote the Democratic ticket. In 1830 he moved to Greene County, Illinois and settled near what is now Fieldon when this county was a howling wilderness. He loved to fish and hunt, expert woodsman, he related many romantic incidents and adventures of a frontier life. Born soon after the organization of the government, he lived more than 8 years contemporary? with Washington; lived under the administration of all of our presidents. Fond of reading, good at arithmetic and writing; he had a very legible hand; and was well versed in scared literature. His wife died in 1857 and he was remarried to Nancy Richey, who lives to mourn. Funeral services were held at his home, Rev. Wm. Tipton officiating and burial was in Armstrong cemetery.
RICHEY. Vincent M. Richey, 56, died near Otterville, January 27, 1884. He was born May 27, 1828, near Fieldon. (35 years ??) reared a farmer and received a common school education when the country was new and schools not so advanced as now. He served as a soldier for 6 months during the Rebellion. He enlisted the 9th of March, 1865 in Company D, 61st Regiment, under Capt. Thomas J. Warren, serving in the Army under Gen. Thomas in Tennessee. Discharged September 8, 1865 and returned to his fathers home in Fieldon. He married March 28, 1867 to Jane (Crossit) Richey, who died March 16, 1881, leaving 3 children. He married the second time to a widow lady, the mother of 2 and they had 1 child of their marriage. His death leaves 6 children orphans. Burial in Armstrong cemetery.
Vincent RICHEY, a well-known and highly respected citizen, died on the 27th inst. at his home in Otter Creek Township. Mr. Richey lacked several months of being 47 years of age, but his health had rapidly declined during the past year. Funeral services were held on Monday, 28th inst., at the residence. Rev. John BELT officiating. The remains were interred at the Armstrong Cemetery. From Jersey County Democrat, January 31, 1884.

F. H. Brown serving. She had been married 4 times and leaves a number of children: Henry Rexhouse, Ed Stoeckel, Saifland, Oklahoma, Mrs. R. L. Smith of Elsah, Fred Hoehn, Arthur Grosing, Mrs. John Allday, Medford, Oklahoma, Wm. Hesselbring, Frannon, OK and 1 step-son, Leo Richter, Enid, OK.

Born July 19, 1940, son of Gladys (McGowen) Ames of Washington and Howard Richter of Jerseyville. He leaves his mother and stepfather, Wilford Ames of Washington, 1 half sister Betty Litherland of East Peoria and grandmother, Mrs. Pearl Gowling of Greenwood Manor Nursing Home.
RICKERMAN. Died 13-08-1952. john Henry Rickerman, 85 years, 6 months, 5 days, a native of Hanover, Germany and retired farmer of Dow, died at 4:30 pm Wednesday, August 13, at Jerseyville Nursing Home. He had been a patient there for the past 6 weeks. Surviving are 2 daughters Mrs. Wilbur Medlock of East Alton and Mrs. James Minard of Godfrey; 4 sons, Herman of New York City, Bernard of Lockport, Henry of Massachusetts and Ollie of Dow; 10 grandchildren and 1 g-granddaughter. Friends may call at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services are tentatively set for Saturday, August 16, at 9:30 am at Holy Ghost church in Jerseyville. Requiem mass will be celebrated by Father Paul P. Heinlein and interment will be in St. Francis cemetery.
RIDENBARK. Died 10-1982. Albert Wayne Ridenbark, 45, was dead on arrival at 10:08 pm Sunday at the scene of a train and auto accident south of Brighton. A farmer, he was born in Kane, a son of Della (Shannon) Redenbark of Jerseyville and the late William Ridenbark. On July 30, 1977, he married Donna (Schenberger) Ridenbark in Alton. In addition to his wife and mother, surviving are 2 sons, Terry of Godfrey and Steven of Rosewood Heights; 3 step-daughters, Debby Antoine of Jerseyville, Peggy Estes of Godfrey and Barbara Williams of Brighton; 1 grandson; 4 brothers, Robert and Everett, both of Fieldon, and Theron and Max, both of Jerseyville; and 3 daughters, Betty Russell of Jerseyville, and Glenna Honey and Juanita Harris both of Alton. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm Tuesday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services will be held at 1 pm Wednesday at State St. Baptist church in Jerseyville with Rev. Ron Woodrum officiating, and burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. The church has been named as a memorial. Coroner’s inquest is pending.
RIDENBARK. Died 12-07-1986. Della Ridenbark, 80, of Jerseyville, died July 12 at Christian hospital northeast in St. Louis. She was born October 8, 1905, in Clinton, Indiana, to Everett & Glennie (Wright) Shannon. She married William Ridenbark, and he died May 22, 1961. Survivors include 3 daughters, Betty Russell of Jerseyville and Glenna Honey and Juanita Hall, both of Alton; 4 sons, Robert and Everett (Gene) both of Fieldon, Theron and Max, both of Jerseyville; 3 brothers, Walter Shannon of Filmore, California, and Everett Shannon and Blaine Shannon, both of Clinton, Indiana; 23 grandchildren; and 10 g-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, 1 son, 2 grandsons and 1 sister. Visitation was July 14 at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The funeral was July 15 there, and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Officiating minister was Rev. Jamie Hudson of Godfrey. Memorials may be given to Diabetes Assoc.
RIDENOUR. Died 19-03-1981. Neva J. Ridenour, 83, of Otterville died at 1 pm March 19, at Jersey Community hospital. Services were conducted Saturday pm at Otterville Baptist church by Rev. Joy Settles, with burial in Rosedale cemetery. The daughter of Rollin Henry & Elizabeth (White) Bethel, she was born in Chesterfield June 14, 1897. Her husband, Elmer Ridenour, died March 1, 1971. Her survivors are 2 sons, Wayne of Grafton and Keith of Alton; 4 daughters, Irma McCoy and Madge Reynolds of Grafton, Lucille Pace of Jerseyville and Joyce Moran of Granite City; 36 grandchildren, 85 g-grandchildren, and 32 g-g-grandchildren. Also surviving are 5 sisters, Tessie Spangle of Jerseyville, Lula Hutchinson of Grafton, Jean B. Ethel, Jane Pethel and Enid Bolin all of Granite City. Memorials may be given to Otterville Baptist church.
RIDENBARK. Ricky Lee Ridenbark, 27, died at 2:30 pm Wednesday, November 18, 1987, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, following a lengthy illness. He worked as a farm laborer. He was born in Carrollton, son of Robert & Doris (Varble) Ridenbark of Fieldon. In addition to his parents, he is survived by 1 brother, Rodney Ridenbark of Fieldon; 5 sisters, Bobbie Howard of Cottage Hills, Angela and Crystal Ridenbark, both of Fieldon, and Renee and Cindy Ridenbark, both of Jerseyville, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm Friday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services will be conducted there at 1 pm Saturday with Rev. Dean Cox officiating. Burial will be in Fieldon cemetery. Carlton Christenson, pastor of First Baptist church, and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Visitation was held at the Funeral Home. Mr. Ridenour was a son of Dr. Leo Ridenour & the late Lula (Burnett) Ridenour and was born May 31, 1905, at Grafton. He had been a resident of Jerseyville for 46 years. He was married January 31, 1925, in Alton to Julia (Skinner) Ridenour who survives. Mr. Ridenour was employed at International Shoe Company for 18 years, and he and his wife were engaged in the restaurant business in Jerseyville for 18 years. He also owned and operated a recreation hall in this city for 5 years. He also played a saxophone and had his own orchestra for several years. The group played for dances throughout the area. He was a member of Local 520a Operating Engineers, Granite City. Surviving Mr. Ridenour are: his wife, 1 son Clayton Ridenour, Jr., 4 grandchildren, and 1 brother, Ray Ridenour, all of Jerseyville and his father who resides in California. He was preceded in death by his mother, (which occurred when he was 9 years old), and 1 sister Mrs. Alice Connely.

RIDENOUR. Died 01-12-1951. Robert Singleton Ridenour, 91, resident of Rosedale, died Saturday December 1, at 10:10 pm at Mary’s Nursing Home in Jerseyville. Mr. Ridenour was a son of the late Frederick & Delilah (Connors) Ridenour and was born in Greene County on February 15, 1860. He had spent practically all his life in Jersey County where he engaged in farming. He is survived by 68 descendants including 3 daughters, Mrs. Ollie Ontis of Alton, Mrs. David Armstrong of Everett, Washington, and Mrs. Clarence Griesemeir of Grafton, and 2 sons, Dr. Leo Ridenour of Zion, Illinois, and Elmer Ridenour of Grafton. He also leaves 21 grandchildren, 38 g-grandchildren, and 4 g-g-grandchildren. Services were held at Rosedale Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, December 4, at 2 pm with Rev. Harry M. Fish of Grafton officiating. Interment was in Rosedale cemetery.
RIEGER. Died 1973. John Henry Rieger, 81, of Route 2 Godfrey, was recipient of a funeral mass, celebrated Monday am at St. Michael Catholic church, Beltrees. Rev. Patrick Morrow was celebrant, and burial was in Beltrees cemetery. A construction laborer, he was born November 20, 1891 in Seymour, Indiana, a son of Joseph & Josephine (Heitzman) Rieger. His survivors are his wife, Mrs. Anna (Nolan) Rieger; 2 sons, Anthony and Kenneth, of Godfrey; 2 daughters, Mrs. Anna Wagner of Godfrey and Mrs. Barbara Westerholt of St. Louis; 5 grandchildren; 1 brother, Leo Rieger of Route 2, Godfrey; and 1 sister Mrs. Elmer Drexilius of Alton. His parents, 1 brother and 2 sons preceded him in death. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville where the rosary was recited.
RIEGER. Died 14-09-1952. Joseph H. Rieger, 89, a retired farmer residing in southern Jersey County, died at 5 am Sunday September 14, at his home on alt-jersey road. He had been in failing health for a year and a half and since last summer had been bedfast. He was born in Indiana and then moved to this area where he was a resident for 68 years. Mr. Rieger is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. John Drexelius of Alton, 3 sons, Leo J, who resided with him, John H. of Godfrey and Joseph E. of Mendon; 1 sister Mrs. Johanna Abel of Greenfield, Indiana, and 6 grandchildren. Funeral rites were conducted Thursday, September 18, at 9 am, at St. Michael church in Beltrees, where he was a longtime member.
RIEGER. Died 16-02-1976. Leo J. Rieger, 75, of Rural Route 2 Godfrey, died at 1:20 am February 16 at Jersey Community hospital. He was a farmer and was born on July 20, 1901 in Alton, a son of Joseph & Frances (Hentrich) Rieger. He was a veteran of WWI. Funeral mass was celebrated February 18, at St. Francis Xavier church with Rev. R. T. Shea celebrant. Interment was in St. Michael cemetery, Beltrees. His survivors are his wife, Mrs. Edna (Gerson) Rieger; 1 sister Mrs. Eleanor Drexelius of Alton; 2 stepsons, Charles Kaplan of Sinton, Texas and William Kaplan of Jefferson City, Missouri; 6 grandchildren. His parents and 2 brothers preceded him in death. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville where the rosary was recited Tuesday evening. Military rites were conducted by the American Legion.
RIESTER. Died 30-11-1960. Lillie Belle Riester, 95, native of Jersey County, died Wednesday afternoon, November 30, at the home of a son Albert, in East Alton. Final rites were held Saturday afternoon December 3, at Gent chapel lin Alton with Rev. Paul S. Krebs, pastor of 12th St. Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park. City Commissioner and Mrs. Henry Horn and Miss Hattie Dabbs of Jerseyville attended. The decedent was a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. William Bates and was born August 2, 1865, at Elsah. She had spent the greater part of her life in the Dow area and was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian church at Newbern. She also belonged to the Royal Neighbors Lodge. She had made her home for the past 30 years with her son. Surviving in addition to her son are a daughter, Mrs. Enos Head of Alton, 2 grandchildren and 3 g-grandchildren. Her husband, Thomas Riester, died in 1925, and she was the last of her family.
RIGGLE. Ernest Bernard “Ernie” Riggle, 84, formerly of Grafton, died at 5:45 am Thursday, December 25, 1986, at Calhoun Care Center in Hardin. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of the late Roger & Rose Mary (Hagen) Riggle. He had been employed as a serviceman for a utility Company. He married Alberta (Wilson) Riggle in May 1932, in Waukegan. She died January 15, 1976. Surviving are 2 foster daughters, Mildren Pyle of Lexington, Illinois, and Evelyn Garesche of Des Plaines, Illinois; 1 brother, Roger Riggle of California; and a sister Clemie Dorlos of Chicago, Illinois. Visitation was held from 5-9 pm at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton. Services were held there at 10:30 am Saturday with burial in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
RIGGS. Died 13-11-1879. Benjamin A. Riggs, 82 years, 24 days, died at his home 1 mile northwest of Jerseyville, Thursday, November 13, 1879, at 9 pm. After an illness of paralysis of 8 days. The funeral services will take place Saturday November 15, 1879 at 11 am at the ME Church, Rev. Joseph W. Van Cleve, pastor officiating. Friends of the family are invited.
RILEY. Died 01-06-1970. Leonard Hugh Riley, 70 years, 6 months, and 12 days, a shoe cutter at International Shoe Company in Jerseyville prior to its closing a few years ago, died at 2 pm Monday, at Barnes hospital St. Louis, where he had been a patient for several days. His health had been impaired since last fall when he was hospitalized several weeks following major surgery. Final rites will be held this Thursday am at Holy Ghost church of which he was a member. Requiem mass will be offered by Rev. Robert Heintz, and burial will be in St. Francis cemetery. Visitation are at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The rosary will be recited Wednesday evening. Mr. riley was a son of Albert J. & Lillie (Shults) Riley and was born November 19, 1899, in Jerseyville. He is survived by his wife, Agnes (Overmeyer) Riley of this city; 1 son, Richard Riley of St. Charles, Missouri; 7 grandchildren; and 1 sister Mrs. Allen Draper of Jerseyville.

RINAKER. Died 01-1915. Gen. John I. Rinaker of Carlinville, died at Eustis, Florida, his remains arrived at his home of the C & A. For many years he had been a factor in the state political life and a member of the Macoupin County Bar.
RING. Died -11-10-191? (Mrs.) Harriet Ring, 59, died at her home in Jerseyville, Saturday October 11. Funeral from St. Francis church, Rev. J. J. Clancy, officiating. Burial was in St. Francis cemetery.
RING. Edward Ring was born in Onoudaga County, New York, Sept. 18, 1858. He came to Illinois with his parents in 1860, when ten years of age the family located in Jersey County, near Jerseyville, remaining there until the death of his father in 1870. In 1879 he married Miss Harriet Josephine Gaffney and went immediately to the farm home of his mother, where he spent the remainder of his life. His illness began in the fall of 1912, but he kept up his farm duties until he was compelled to give up work on account of weakness. He then went to Alton Hospital for treatment but not being benefited there he was taken to a specialist at Springfield, who pronounced his trouble as hardening of the liver. He was a man who always enjoyed his home and family, and could not be prevailed upon to remain away long. He was an indulgent father and he almost idolized his children. Mr. Ring was an honest upright man and served as director of Brush College School for several years. He died April 18, 1913.

RINGHAUSEN. Died 19-06-1978. Charles “Chuck” Ringhausen, 18, was killed June 19 when the single engine Cessna-150 he was piloting hit a 138,000 volt power line across the Mississippi River just south of downtown St. Louis. A memorial mass was said Saturday evening at St. Mary church, Westwoods with Father William Hembrow celebrant. Father John Lakers of Quincy gave the eulogy. Ringhausen, 18, was the son of Shirley Ringhausen of Fieldon & William Ringhausen of Sibley, Missouri. According to Sheriff Frank Yocom who was on the scene when an attempt was made to raise the plane, efforts were abandoned when it was found that the plane was full of silt and sand and could not be brought up. Yocom said the plane was somewhat mangled and the difficulty was finding something rigid to hook the chain onto. Pieces were brought up which definitely identify the plane as belonging to Ringhausen”s Uncle John Surgeon, of Grafton. Besides his parents he is survived by 2 brothers, Daniel of Fieldon and John of Peoria; and 1 sister Janie Berta of Enid, OK; paternal grandfather, William L. Ringhausen of Fieldon. He was a nephew of John Surgeon of Grafton, Lynn Surgeon of Evansville, Donald Surgeon of MN and Mrs. John (Dorothy) Klockenkemper of Batchtown. Memorials may be given to a fund set up in his name at State bank of Jerseyville and designated for the new Jersey Community hospital.
RINGHAUSEN. Died 22-04-1962. Charles C. Ringhausen, 71 years, 8 months, 13 days, a resident at Waters Nursing Home, died there Sunday April 22, at 12:25 pm. Final rites were held Wednesday afternoon April 25, at 2 pm at First Presbyterian church with the pastor, Rev. M. Edwards Breed, officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Prior to the services friends called at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Mr. Ringhausen had been ill for more than 2 years and had been hospitalized at various times during his illness. Mr. Ringhausen was a son of the late Christian & Christine (Schafer) Ringhausen and was born August 9, 1890 in Hardin. He moved with his family to Jerseyville on May 17, 1928. The Ringhausen name has been prominently identified with the orchard industry in Jersey and Calhoun counties for many years and he had remained active in the industry in both counties until his illness. In 1931 Mr. Ringhausen and his brothers, Clarence, Ed and the late Stephen Ringhausen, entered the cold storage business and erected the Ringhausen cold storage plant of S. State st. Later Charles purchased the interests of his brothers in the business. In addition to his business, Mr. Ringhausen was active in affairs of the community. He served several terms as a member of the – incomplete.
RINGHAUSEN. Died 21-12-1977. Charles L. Ringhausen, 60, of 136 Andrew, Jerseyville died at 3:30 pm December 21 at his home after an extended illness. He was born January 10, 1917 in Hamburg, a son of Charles C. & Lulu (Ross) Ringhausen. He had been a LP gas salesman for Jersey County Farm Supply. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Stanley) Ringhausen whom he married October 29, 1939; also surviving are 1 daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Georgia Lee) Schleper; 2 grandchildren, Steven and Laura Schleper; and 1 sister Mrs. Paul (Morlean) Powel of Jerseyville and 1 brother, Chris Ringhausen of Fieldon. His parents preceded him in death. Services will be held at 2 pm on December 23 at First United Presbyterian church with Rev. M. Edwards Breed officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-9 pm Thursday at Gubser Funeral Home and from noon Friday at the church until time of the services. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian church.
RINGHAUSEN. Clarence P. Ringhausen, 95, died at 1:31 am Friday, May 22, 1992, at Greenwood Manor in Jerseyville. Ringhausen was a retired farmer and orchardist and US Army WWI veteran. He was a member of Jerseyville Masonic Lodge 394 AF & AM and Shriner Ainad Temple. Born in Calhoun County on November 16, 1896, he was a son of the late Christian & Christina (Schafer) Ringhausen. Surviving are 2 sisters, Elsie McBride of Hardin and Christine Rhoads of East Alton. 5 brothers, Edward, Jesse, Harry, Charles and Stephen Ringhausen, preceded him in death. Visitation is from 4-8 pm Sunday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Visitation continues from 10-11 am Monday at First United Presbyterian church in Jerseyville. Rev. Simon A. Simon will officiate at the service at 11 am. Burial is in Oak Grove cemetery, Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to First United Presbyterian church where he was a member.
RINGHAUSEN. Died 01-11-1984. Edward L. Ringhausen, 96, formerly of Jerseyville, died at 2:15 pm November 1 at Americanna Health Care Center in Arlington Heights. Born August 1, 1888 in Calhoun County, son of the late Christian & Christine (Schafer) Ringhausen, he retired from farming at the age of 60. He was a 58 year member of the Grafton Masonic Lodge No. 341. His survivors are 2 daughters, Elsie Beach of Jerseyville and Virginia Drenth of Arlington Heights; 4 grandchildren; 10 g-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Clarence Ringhausen of Jerseyville; 2 sisters, , Elsie McBride of Hardin and Christine Rhoads of East Alton. The Grafton Masonic Lodge conducted services Sunday evening at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were conducted Monday afternoon at First Presbyterian church with the Rev. Simon A. Simon officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove.
RINGHAUSEN. Died 22-06-1974. Faye Marie Ringhausen, 80, of 515 S. State St., Jerseyville died at 4:45 pm June 22 at Jersey Community hospital. She was born February 10, 1894 in Bellview, a daughter of Jonas & Mary Jane (Plummer) Ward. Mrs. Ringhausen was a member of Eastern Star Lodge No. 318 at Grafton and the Royal Neighbors of Grafton Camp No. 995. Her survivors are her husband, Edward Ringhausen; 3 daughters, Mrs. Richard (June) Davis, Mrs. Elsie Beach of Jerseyville and Virginia Drenth of Arlington Heights; – incomplete.
RINGHAUSEN. Died 11-10-1984. Glen L. Ringhausen, 47, of Jerseyville, died October 11, 1984 at his home. He was a son of Lenora (Kraut) Ringhausen and the late Louis Ringhausen, he was born in Hardin. He married linda L. (Vetter) Ringhausen at Kampsville on April 4, 1959. He leaves his wife, mother, 1 daughter, Branda Kaye; and 1 son, Kevin, both at home. David Hammer was in charge of services with burial in Oak Grove cemetery.
RINGHAUSEN. Died 02-1983. Helen (Anderson) Ringhausen, 69, of St. Charles, Missouri and formerly of Calhoun County, died at 11 am Wednesday at Jewish hospital in St. Louis. Her husband, Arthur J. Ringhausen, died May 24, 1982. Surviving are 2 sons, Roger of St. Charles and Don of Freeport, Texas, and 7 grandchildren. Visitation is today at Baue Funeral Home in St. Charles. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am Saturday at Borromeo Catholic church in St. Charles. The body will be then be moved to Hanks Funeral Home at Hardin where another visitation will be held from 12-3 pm. Graveside rites will follow at St. Norbert cemetery.
RINGHAUSEN. Jesse C. Ringhausen, 89, formerly of Hardin, died at 4:30 pm Wednesday November 2, 1988, at Jersey Community hospital Jerseyville. He was a retired orchardist, born in Hardin, son of the late Christian & Christine (Schafer) Ringhausen. On June 20, 1928, he married Sarah Leone (Fisher) Ringhausen in Hardin. She died July 29, 1982. Surviving are 5 daughters, Marva Prough of Carrollton, Lois Lock and Glenda Powers, both of Jerseyville, Corneil Clowers of Nebo and Althea Ringhausen of Colorado; 3 sons, Dwight Ringhausen of Kansas City, Missouri, David Ringhausen of Hardin and Clay Ringhausen of Shipman; 16 grandchildren; 3 g-grandchildren; 1 brother, Clarence Ringhausen of Jerseyville; and 2 sisters, Christine Rhodes of Wood River and Elsie McBride of Hardin. 4 brothers preceded him in death, Harry, Charles, Ed and Steve Ringhausen. RINGHAUSEN. Died 29-07-1982. Leone Ringhausen, 78, of Hardin died at 3:05 pm July 29 at Jersey Community hospital. Born in Hardin she was a daughter of the late William & Edna (Kelly) fisher. Mrs. Ringhausen had retired after 33 years as a librarian and teacher in Unit 40 School District. Survivors are her husband, Jesse; 5 daughters, Marva Prough of Carrollton, Lois Lock and Glenda Powers, Jerseyville, Corneil Clowers of Nebo and Althea Ringhausen of Denver, Colorado; 3 sons, Dwight of Kansas City, Missouri, David of Hardin and Clay of Shipman; 16 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Christine Oettle of Shipman and Corinne Lorsbach of Collinsville. Services were held Sunday afternoon at Hardin Presbyterian church with Rev. Dan Johnson officiating. Burial was in Hardin cemetery. Memorials may be given to Jersey Community hospital intensive care unit and Eastern Star building fund.
RINGHAUSEN. Lucy Selinda Ringhausen, 89, died at 7:08 pm Thursday, October 18, 1990 at Greenwood Manor in Jerseyville, after a lengthy illness. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star chapter 656 and American Legion WWI Auxiliary Post 492, both of Jerseyville. Born in Elsah, she was the daughter of the late Henry & May (Besterfeldt) Pelikan. On November 2, 1922, in Elsah, she married Stephen T. Ringhausen. He died on March 15, 1955. Surviving are 5 daughters, Beulah Scranton of Urbana, Irene Daniel of Pittsfield, Bety Prough and Marjorie Woodman, both of Jerseyville and Lucy Weller of Nashville, Tennessee; 4 sons, Forest and Hubert Ringhausen, both of Jerseyville, Kenneth Ringhausen of Wood River and Phillip Ringhausen of Medora; 17 grandchildren; 10 g-grandchildren; and 1 sister Rosa Repke of St. Ann, Missouri. Preceding her in death were 1 son, Leo Ringhausen; 1 brother, Charles Pelikan; and 1 sister Tillie Lohr. Visitation is from 4-9 pm Sunday and 8-9:30 am Monday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Visitation continues from 10 am Monday until service time at 11 am at First United Presbyterian church of Jerseyville. Rev. Simon A. Simon will officiate with burial in Oak Grove cemetery. Lulu Ringhausen, 67 years, 8 months, 13 days, wife of Charles Ringhausen, Sr., Jerseyville businessman, died Tuesday April 28, at 6:16 pm at Jersey Community hospital where she had been moved shortly after 1 pm that afternoon. Her death was unexpected. The body is at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Final rites will be held at First Presbyterian church in Jerseyville on Friday afternoon, May 1, at 2 pm, Rev. M. Edwards Breed, pastor of the church, will officiate and interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs. Ringhausen was a daughter of the late John R. & Margaret (Banker) Rosa and was born at Hamburg on August 15, 1891. The Ringhausen family moved from Hamburg to Jerseyville 31 years ago. The decedent was a member of First Presbyterian church in this city. Surviving her are her husband; 2 sons, Chris and Charles Ringhausen, Jr.; and 1 daughter, Mrs. Paul Powel, all of Jerseyville; 5 grandchildren; 1 brother, William H. Rosa of Keokuk, Iowa; 3 sisters, Mrs. Claude Todd and Mrs. Boyd Surgeon of Kane and Mrs. Ben Todd of Keokuk, IA.
RINGHAUSEN. Died 04-11-1990. Mary Louise Ringhausen, 74, was dead on arrival at 12:50 pm at the scene of an automobile accident on Illinois Route 267 at Lageman Lane in Godfrey Township. Born in Winchester, she was employed as a clerk at Jubelt’s Bakery in Jerseyville and later as a cook by Jersey Community School District 100 for 10 years. She married Chris Ringhausen on December 14, 1937 in Alton. Surviving are her husband, 2 daughters, Carol Thiebaud of Ridgel And, Mississippi, and Brenda Gabbett of Springfield; 2 grandchildren; and 1 brother, Clement Williams of Jerseyville. 1 brother, Ray Williams, preceded her in death. Visitation is from 4-9 pm Wednesday at Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with services at 6:30 pm by Jerseyville Order of Eastern Star, where she was a past worthy matron. Funeral services are at 10 am Thursday at First United Presbyterian church with Simon A. Simon officiating. Burial is in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to Shriner Hospital for Crippled Children in St. Louis.
RINGHAUSEN. Buried 18-03-1955. Stephen T. Ringhausen, 60 years, 7 months, 7 days, prominent farmer and orchardist of Jerseyville, was gored to death by a registered gurernsey bull at his farm 2 miles s east of Jerseyville Tuesday am, March 15. His body was found by one of his sons, Kenneth, who had gone to the barnlot to assist him with some work. The son related that his father left the house about 8 am Tuesday and he went out about 10:30 and saw his father lying on the ground in the lot about 100 yds from the house. He called to his mother to summon an ambulance. Upon investigating he found that his father was dead. The bull which was usually dept tied was in the lot. The animal was four and one-half years old and had been shoun several times. Testifying at the inquest held Wednesday am by Coroner Rodney Jacoby, Kenneth stated he had worked the midnight shift at the Lincoln-Mercury plant and when he returned home he left a note for his mother to call him about 10:30 so that he could help his father with some of the farm work. Another son Hubert, who usually helps with the farm work had gone to MN to assist at a stock show. Kenneth testified that the bull was fairly tame. The jury returned a verdict of instant death resulting from wound inflicted by the bull. Members of the jury were Thomas G. Adams, Charles S. White, Lloyd Sunderland, Harry Gray, Kenneth L. Searles and James Catt. Death is believed to have occurred between 9-9:30 am. Mr. Ringhausen was born in Calhoun County, August 8, 1894, a son of the late Chris Ringhausen & Christine (Schaffer) Ringhausen. He is survived by his wife, Lucy (Pellikan) Ringhausen; 5 Sons, Forrest, Kenneth, Hubert, Leo and Phillip of Jerseyville; 5 daughters, Mrs. Leonard Scranton of Urbana, Mrs. Jack Daniel of Pittsfield, Mrs. Kenneth Prough, Misses Margie and Lucy of Jerseyville; 1 grandson; his 91 year old mother, Mrs. Christine Ringhausen of Hardin; 5 brothers, Charles Sr., Clarence and Edward of Jerseyville, Jesse of Hardin and Harry of Ellsberry, Missouri and 2 sisters, Mrs. Lyndle McBride of Hardin and Mrs. William Rhoads of Wood River.
RINGHAUSEN. William L. “Bill” Ringhausen, 84, died at 8:16 pm Sunday, January 29, 1989, at Jersey Community hospital in Jerseyville. Ringhausen was an orchardist in Calhoun and Jersey Counties before retiring in 1980. He was born in Hardin, son of the late Louis & Margaret (Woefel) Ringhausen. On June 23, 1928, in Hardin, he married Hildegarde Regina (Bauman) Ringhausen. She died in 1965. Surviving are 1 son William D. Ringhausen of Meppen; 3 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Ted Ringhausen of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Mary Lou Ringhausen; 1 grandson; 2 sisters, and 4 brothers. Visitation is 4-9 pm Tuesday at Hanks Funeral Home in Hardin. There will be a prayer service at 6:30 pm and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 am Wednesday at St. Norbert Catholic church in Hardin with Rev. Dennis Kollross as celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. Norbert Catholic school in Hardin or Calhoun County ambulance service.

She was mother of Dennis Riordan of Grafton, John Riordan of Pekin and Miss Mary Riordan, a teacher in Jerseyville grade school.
RIORDAN. Died 05-03-1976. Nellie Riordan, 87, who resided at D’adrian Convalescent Center, Godfrey, died at 12:30 pm Friday March 5, at St. Joseph hospital after an illness of 3 years. A native of Grafton, she married John Riordan, October 25, 1914, and he died in 1931. Surviving are a brother, Dan Keslick of Alton; 1 half brother, Robert Williams of Alton; and 1 sister Mrs. Magdalen A. Freeman of Godfrey. A funeral mass was celebrated at 9 am Monday at SS Peter & Paul Catholic church with Rev. George Radsovech as celebrant. Burial was in Scenic Hill cemetery Grafton.
RISLEY. Died 12-04-1896. Enoch Risley died at the home of his sister, Mrs. J. L. Seitz in Jerseyville, April 12. He was a resident of Elsah. Funeral was at Newbern Tuesday, with Rev. J. E. Burk.
RISTER. Died 1962. Clara Rister, 75, wife of Willis Rister of Alton died recently. She was born March 15, 1887 in Grafton, daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Charles Depper. She attended Grafton schools and had been in Alton for 50 years. She leaves her husband whom she married August 4, 1924; 2 daughters, Mrs. Vernon Meyenburg of Ottowa and Mrs. Clarence Weber of Alton; 1 son Geo Hethcote of Godfrey; 9 grandchildren and 9 g-grandchildren.

Requiem mass was celebrated by Father Patrick Morrow, and burial was in Elsah cemetery. Visitation hours were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where the rosary was re – incomplete info.

RITCHEY. Died 26-02-1985. Charles “Bert” Ritchey, 86, of Godfrey died at 6:25 am February 25. He was head of sales work for 15 years and owner-operator of Ritchey Home Supply, retiring in 1968. Born in Fieldon July 30, 1898, he was a son of Charles & Mary (Ryan) Ritchey and was a WWI Army veteran. Ritchey was a 32nd degree Mason, member of Alton Franklin Lodge and Ainad Shrine, East St. Louis, past treasurer of Alton Eagles Lodge, member of Alton-Wood River Sportsman’s Club and past supervisor on the Godfrey Township Board. His survivors are his wife, Mabel “Ruth” Whittleman Ritchey whom he married July 15, 1918; 2 daughters, Alberta Lynn and Juanita Adams of Godfrey; 7 grandchildren and 12 g-grandchildren; and 1 half sister, Velma Phillips of San Diego, California. Visitation was from 4-8 pm Thursday at Gent Funeral Home, Alton, with Masonic rites to be conducted at 7 pm. Services will be at 11 am Friday at Gent chapel with Rev. W. Russell Shaw officiating. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park. Memorials may be given to 12th Presbyterian church, American Cancer Society and American Heart Association.

Born in Jersey County July 19, 1917, he was a son of Orleigh & Lillie (Young) Ritchey. He married Ora Mae (Stephens) Ritchey, August 6, 1960. Ritchey was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Order of Eastern Star and Shriners. His survivors are his wife, Ora; 1 son, Charles Eugene of Kane; 1 daughter, Mary Ann Schaaf of Jerseyville; 1 stepson, Henry Lamb of Alton; 1 sister Elnora Moran of Medora; 12 grandchildren and 4 g-grandchildren. Ritchey, 85 years, 6 months, 5 days, well-known farmer of the panhandle area in the northeast part of Jersey County, died at 9:25 pm Thursday, October 6, at Boyd Memorial hospital. In Carrollton where he had been moved earlier for treatment. He had been in failing health for some time. Mr. Ritchey, a son of the late Mordecai J. & Sarah (Briggs) Ritchey, was born in Jersey County, March 31, 1870, and he had been a lifetime resident of the county. The decedent is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. Calvin Whitlock of Kane; 3 grandchildren; 5 g-grandchildren; 3 g-g-grandchildren; and 1 sister Mrs. Fred Prough of Kane. His Wife, Mrs. Elnorah (Prough) Ritchey, died in 1903, and 2 sons, James and or Leigh Ritchey, also preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, Sunday, October 9, at 1:30 pm. Rev. Paul Keeler, pastor of Bethel Baptist church, officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.

RITTER. Born 1973. Erika Rose Ritter, 17, was pronounced died at 1:06 am today, May 24, 1990, at the scene of a one car accident on Otterville Road. She was a senior at Jersey Community High School in Jerseyville and would have graduated next Friday. Born in Jerseyville, she was the daughter of John Barry & Virginia (Thompson) Ritter of Jerseyville. Also surviving are 5 sisters, Janice and Robin Ritter, both of Alton, Cynthia Ritter of St. Louis, Mary Myers of Chicago and Julie Southern of Los Gatos, California; 3 brothers, Joe, John and James Ritter, all of Jerseyville; and her grandparents, Rose Thompson and Esther Ritter, both of Jerseyville. Visitation is from 4-9 pm Friday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with a rosary recitation at 6:30 pm. A funeral mass in at 10 am Saturday at St. Francis Catholic church in Jerseyville with Rev. Henry Schmidt as celebrant. Burial is in St. Francis cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. Francis school, Jerseyville, or masses.
RITTER. Died 29-03-1967. John C. Ritter, 66 years, 9 months, and 29 days, a former member of the Jerseyville City police force and at one time captain of the Illinois State Highway Police, died at 8 pm, March 29, at Memorial hospital in Springfield where he had been in patient since March 20. Of late years Mr. Ritter had held a position of engineering technician with the Division of Waterways of the State of Illinois and had been making his home in Kampsville. Re Ritter’s death occurred unexpectedly while he was hospitalized for skin grafting of burn wounds of the back sustained on the 17th of the month when he fell across a heating pipe at his home. Mr. Ritter, a native of Calhoun County was born in Kampsville, a son of the Late Michael & Eva Lena (Hauser) Ritter. The family lived in Jerseyville for a number of years. His survivors are his wife, Mrs. Gwen Ritter; 1 daughter, Mrs. Joan Craddick of Ypsilanti, Mich.; 1 Brother Arthur Ritter of Kampsville; 1 sister Mrs. Robert Malloy of Jerseyville; 4 grandchildren; 1 stepson, Donald A. Lanctot of Springfield, and 1 stepdaughter, Margaret Elma of San Mateo, California. He was a veteran of WWI. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral home in Jerseyville where the rosary was recited Friday pm. Requiem mass was celebrated at 10 am Saturday at St. Anselm Church in Kampsville and burial was in St. Anselm cemetery. Committal rites were held under the auspices of the American Legion and VFW.
