TUCKER. Died 25-05-1978. Martha M. (May) Tucker, 86, of Kane died at 6:30 am May 25 at Garnet’s Chateau where she had resided for 4 years. She was born in Jersey County April 4, 1892, a daughter of Joseph & Elizabeth Rachel (Sweeney) Cope. Surviving are 1 sister, Mrs. Neal (Ruby) Hawkins of Alton; 1 nephew, Edward G. Clark of Jerseyville and nieces, Mrs. Robert (Thaus) Yocom of Kane and Mrs. Robert (Audrey) Rust of Alton. 1 son Leslie Joe Tucker, died in 1944. Visitation will be held after 4 pm Friday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be conductedat 2 pm May 27 by Rev. Garold Cooper of Kane Baptist church. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery.
TUCKER. Died 18-04-1985. Alfred N. Tucker, 68, of Jerseyville died at 9:34 pm April 18, 1985 at Jersey Community hospital. Born in Jersey County April 7, 1917, he was a son of the late James & Elizabeth (Kraushaar) Tucker. The WWII veteran was a laborer with Labor Local 646, Jerseyville and a member of the Faith Temple Pentecostal Church. Services were conducted Monday at Faith Temple Pentecostal church in Jerseyville by Rev. Robert McAdams with burial in Grimes cemetery. His survivors are his wife, Margaret (Young) Tucker whom he married May 18, 1946 in Fieldon; 3 sons, Frank, Kevin and Alfred S. all of Jerseyville; 3 Brothers, Arthur, Fidelity and Jerome and Howard, both of Jerseyville; 1 sister, Eva Dunsing, Jerseyville; and 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, 2 sisters and 1 grandchild. Memorials may be given to the church where he was a member.
TUCKER. Lieutenant James Tucker, 25, veteran of WWII, nephew of Mrs. Leslie Shines of Fidelity township, died Saturday, March 22, at Percy Jones Hospital at Battle Creek, Michigan. Death resulted from an illness which overtook him in the South Pacific after hostilities had ended. Lt. Tucker is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Virgil Tucker of Rockbridge. He was a graduate of the Rockbridge high school and had 5 weeks to go to finish work on a degree at the U of I when he enter military service. He was graduated from officer’s candidate school at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. He became ill in the Philippine islands in May, 1946, and submitted to an operation aboard ship enroute home. Funeral services were held at St. Michael’s Catholic church in Greenfield Wednesday and burial was in Oakwood cemetery.
TUCKER. Ethel Tucker, 92, of Medora, died April 28, 1988, at Blu Fountain Manor in Godfrey. She was born in Jersey County the daughter of the late George & Zana (Reddish) Fritz. On May 20, 1914, she married Cleveland Tucker. He died June 16, 1914. She operated a beauty shop in Medora for many years, was a charter member of Jersey County Home Extension and was the recipient of a 50 year pin. Survivors include, 1 daughter, Dorothy Beckner of Carrollton; 2 sons, Harold Tucker of Alton and Melvin Bridges of Bethalto, who was reared in their home; 1 sister Helen Smith of Athens; 1 brother, Herschel Fritz of Jerseyville; 5 grandchildren; 10 g-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 3 sisters. The funeral was April 30 at Targhetta Funeral Home in Medora with Rev. James O. Baker officiating. Burial was in Medora cemetery. Memorials may be given to Medora Unit Ambulance Service or charity of one’s choice.
TUCKER. Died 14-03-1972. Courtney Tucker, 67, of 908 Walnut St., Jerseyville, died at 11:25 pm Wednesday March 14 at Jersey Community hospital. Funeral arrangements were pending at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville when the Democrat News went to press. He was born February 7, 1905 in Jersey County the son of Henry B. & Amy Rebecca (Freeman) Tucker. Mr. Tucker was a real estate salesman for the Slover Agency. His survivors are his wife, Florence (Groppel) Tucker; 1 daughter, Lorrain Tucker; 3 Brothers, Henry Tucker of Colorado, Leslie L. Tucker of Bloomington and William Bryan Tucker of Girard; and 3 sisters, Mrs. Ora Ewing, Mrs. Pete (Flossie) Mathan, and Mrs. Thelma Mcfain of Taylorville. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, 3 sisters, and 3 half-brother.
TUCKER. Died 24-09-1981. Services for Reginald D. Tucker, 40, a farmer of Rural Route 2, Shipman were conducted Saturday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville by Rev. James Maxwell. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Jersey Community hospital at 11:14 pm September 24, the date of his 40th birthday. He was born September 24, 1941, a son of Delbert H. Tucker & Edith P. (Dwyer) Tucker. He married Helen (Rue), February 20, 1965 in Jerseyville. His survivors are his wife; his Mother Edith Woolsey of Jerseyville; 2 brothers, Harold Tucker of Milan, Missouri and Clifford Tucker, Jerseyville; 2 stepbrothers, Rodney Woolsey, Godfrey, and Arbie Woolsey of California; 1 sister Phyllis Frazier of Jerseyville; 2 stepsisters, Eva Backeus and Sandra Stanley, both of Bellville. His father, 1 sister, Glenda Tucker, preceded him in death. Memorials named are the Department of Children and Family Services, the Epilepsy Foundation and the heart fund.
TUCKER. Died 15-11-1985. Jerome E. Tucker, 57, of Jerseyville, died November 15 in Normandy Osteopathic South hospital in St. Louis. He was born March 20, 1928, in Fieldon to the late James N. & Elizabeth (Kraushaar) Tucker. He was a truck driver for the Jersey County highway Department for 16 years. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean war. He married E. Lucille (Mortland) on October 15, 1947, in St. Charles, Missouri. He was a member of State St. Baptist church and Labor Local No. 646, master twice for the Hardin-Calhoun Masonic Lodge and honorary master of the Jerseyville Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Lucille of Jerseyville; 2 brothers, Arthur of Fidelity and Howard of Jerseyville; 1 Sister Eva Dunsing of Jerseyville; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters. Visitation was from 4-9 pm November 17 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville with Masonic services at 7:30 pm. The funeral was November 18 at State St. Baptist church with Rev. Ron Woodrum officiating. Burial was in Fieldon cemetery.
TUCKER. Died 01-04-1990. Arthur E. Tucker, 75, died at 5:29 pm Sunday, April 1, 1990, at Jersey Community hospital. He was a construction laborer with Local 646. Born in Jersey County, he was the son of the late James & Elizabeth (Kraushaar) Tucker. Surviving are 3 daughters, Beth Fry of Delhi, Carmen Woodring of Fidelity and Kathy Plough of Jerseyville; 10 grandchildren; 12 g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Eva Dunsin of Jerseyville; and 1 brother, Howard Tucker of Jerseyville. Preceding him in death were 1 son, Arthur L. Tucker; 1 grandson; 2 brothers, Jerome and Alfred Tucker; and 1 sister, Jesse Cope. Services are at 2 pm today at Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville with Rev. Richard George officiating. Burial is in Grimes cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Church of the Nazarene of Jerseyville.
TUCKER. Died 02-1983. Virgil Tucker, 86, died at 4:30 am today at Jersey Community hospital. A retired farmer and WWII veteran, Tucker was born in Rockbridge, a son of the late Josiah & Mary (Bauer) Tucker. On January 16, k1918, he married Mary (Fitzsimmons) Tucker in Greenfield, and she survives. Also surviving are 1 son, Paul of Jerseyville; 9 grandchildren; 4 g-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Maude Bowman of Greenfield and Mable Crotchett of Kane. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm Tuesday at Shields Memorial Home, where a prayer service will be held at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic church with Rev. Patrick Morrow as celebrant, and burial will be in Oak wood cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church buildingfund.
TUCKER. Died 01-1984. Norman “Bud” Tucker, 75, of Rural Route 1 died at 4:16 pm Sunday at Jersey Community hospital. He was a farmer and was born in Jersey County, a son of the late Charles & Emma (Williams) Tucker. He married Clara (Johnston) and she survives; also surviving are 1 son Norman Robert of Fieldon;1 Daughter, Doris June Gettings of Fieldon; 10 grandchildren; 5 g-grandchildren; 1 brother, Arnold of Maysville, Missouri; and 1 Sister, Aurelia Pagh of Hawthorne Woods. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm Tuesday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville.. Masonic services will be held at 7:30 pm by Fieldon Lodge 592. Funeral services will be conducted at Fieldon United Church of Christ at 2 pm Wednesday with Rev. Robert Broeder officiating. Burial will be in Grimes cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church of which he was a member.
TUCKER. Died 05-1962. Charles Francis Tucker, 81, retired farmer whose home was on E. Prairie St. Jerseyville, died at 3:30 pm Sunday at Green lawn Nursing Home where he had been a patient for some time. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services were held at 3:30 pm Tuesday. Rev. Frank C. Goss, Pastor of Assembly of God church officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr. Tucker, son of the late Frank & Sidney (Miller) Tucker, was born in Grafton, on August 24, 1880. His survivors are his wife, Mrs. Emma W. Tucker; 4 Sons, Armold Tucker of Nebo, Norman Tucker of Eldred, Charles F. Tucker Jr. of Jerseyville and Francis Tucker of Carrollton; 2 daughters, Mrs. Richard (Aglenda) Prough of Kane and Mrs. Ted (Aurealia) Tame of Wooddale; 21 grandchildren; 11 g-grandchildren; 2 brothers, William and James Tucker of Jerseyville; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Lloyd Perdun of Jerseyville and Mrs. Lora Gunterman of Fieldon.
TUCKER. Died 22-12-1946. Thomas A. Tucker, 87 years, 4 months, 10 days, one of the older resident of Jerseyville, died at his home at 500 E. Exchange St., Sunday December 22 at 6 am. The deceased was the son of the late David & Rhoda (Whitlock) Tucker and was born in Greene County, August 12, 1859. He had worked as a carpenter for 30 years but has been retired for some time. The decedent is survived by 3 daughters, Mrs. Rudolph Green and Mrs. George Farmer of Jerseyville and Mrs. Sherman Ferguson of Santa Cruz, California; 4 grandchildren; 9 g-grandchildren and 1 g-g-granddaughter. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, Thursday, December 26, at 2 pm. Rev. Arthur A. Vinz officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.
TUCKER. Died 18-10-1976. The funeral of Mrs. Wilhelmina Grace Tucker, 91, of 207 E. Carpenter St., Jerseyville, was held at 2 pm today, October 21, at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville with Rev. Everett Chambers officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Her death occurred at 10:30 pm October 18 at Greenwood Manor.
TUCKER. Died 17-05-1976. Services for James N. Tucker, 85, were conducted on May 19 from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with burial in Fieldon cemetery. The Rev. Dorcie Hill officiated. His death occurred at 5:45 am on May 17 at Jerseyville Care Center. A native of Jersey County, he was the son of Frank & Sidney (Miller) Tucker. Formerly a construction laborer, he was a member of Labor Local 646 in Jerseyville. He is survived by 4 Sons, Arthur, Alfred, Howard and Jerome of Jerseyville; and 1 daughter, Mrs. Ray (Eva) Dunsing of Jerseyville; 17 grandchildren; 35 g-grandchildren; and 4 g-g-grandchildren.
TUCKER. Died 08-05-1983. Iva Grace Tucker, 94, died at 8:30 pm May 8 at Jersey Community hospital. She was born March 24, 1889 in La Grange, Missouri, daughter of the late John & Laura (Williams) Harrison. Her husband, William H. Tucker, died February 21, 1963. She is survived by 1 son, Gale Tucker of East Alton; 2 daughters, Vilma Meyer and Marie Scott of Jerseyville; numerous grandchildren and g-grandchildren. Services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. R. E. George officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Diabetes Association.
TUCKER. Died 09-03-1974. Funeral rites for Charles L. (Teed) Tucker, 63, of Avondale, Colorado, formerly of Jersey County, will be held at 2 pm today, March 14, at the State Street Baptist church. His death occurred at Avondale on March 9. Rev. Francis Varble will conduct the services and burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Masonic services were conducted by Calhoun Lodge. He was born December 19, 1911, in Jersey County, a son of Charles & Emma Tucker and had been a carpenter. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ev Tucker, and 1 daughter, Susan Tucker, of Avondale; 2 sisters, Mrs. Aglenda Prough of Kane and Mrs. Aurelia Tame of Chicago; and 3 brothers, Arnold on Storm Lake, Iowa, Norman of Carrollton and Francis of Kane. His parents and 1 son preceded him in death.
TUELL. Died 01-1911. Mrs. John Tuell, 34, formerly of Jerseyville died at St. John hospital in Springfield, Illinois. She was the former Katie Barrett. Funeral from St. Francis church, Rev. J. J. Driscoll celebrant with burial in St. Francis cemetery.
TUEMMLER. Died 28-09-1981. Mattie L. Tuemmler, 98, of Alton died at 6:45 pm September 28 at St. Anthony hospital where she had resided for a year. Services were held at Gent Funeral Home, Alton. She was born in Elsah, a daughter of the late Jesse & Kate Lawless. She married Ray L. Smith who died in July, 1944, and later married Fred C. Tuemmler who preceded her in death in August, 1963. She is survived by 1 daughter, Vilma Ayers of Alton; 1 Step-son, Fredrick Tuemmler of Berkeley, California; 1 grandson and 1 g-grandson.
TUETKEN. Died 04-1957. William Frederick Tuetken, 85 years, 6 months, and 11 days, retired farmer of Fidelity, died of a heart attack at his home about 1 pm Sunday. Funeral services were held at Warner Targhetta Funeral Home in Medora Tuesday April 16 at 2 pm. Rev. W. M. Greer of the Fidelity Baptist church officiated and burial was in Medora cemetery. Mr. Tuetken was a son of the late Wilke & Hannah (Gallerman) Tuetken, and was born in Bethalto, October 3, 1871. In addition to his farming, Mr. Tuetken served as Justice of the Peace in Fidelity township for a number of years. He was also an active member of the Modern Woodman of America. Surviving the decedent are 1 daughter, Mrs. Muriel Smith of Fidelity; 3 sons, Robert, Lewis and Ray Tuetken, of Alton; 1 brother, Martin Tuetken of Jerseyville, 8 grandchildren and 1 g-grandchild.
TUETKEN. Died 01-09-1961. Martin L. Tuetken, 77 years, 10 months, 18 days, prominent retired farmer and livestock breeder of Jerseyville, died in his sleep at his home, 324 Arch St. Friday am September 1. His death, which came as a shock to family members and friends, was discovered when Mrs. Tuetken went to call him for breakfast. On Thursday evening, Mr. Tuetken had mowed the lawn at his home and appeared to be in his usual health. His wife had talked to him about 4 am Friday at which time he was all right. His death is believed to have occurred about 30 minutes later. Mr. Tuetken was born in Moro, October 13, 1883. Prior to his retirement 14 years ago, Mr. Tuetken farmed east of Jerseyville and engaged extensively in the livestock business specializing in Angus cattle. He formerly served on the directorate of the Southwestern Illinois Valley Angus Breeders Association. In connection with his farm work the decedent took an active role in the Jersey County Farm Bureau, and for 8 years served as a trustee of the First Presbyterian church in Jerseyville. Mr. Tuetken is survived by his Wife, Lula Mae (Crull) Tuetken; 2 sons, Everett C. and M. Laverne Tuetken of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Mrs. Ada Blair of Godfrey and Mrs. Edith Mae Payne of Alton, and 5 grandchildren. Firends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services were held at 2 pm Sunday at First Presbyterian church, with Rev. M. Edwards Breed officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.
TUETKEN. Died 02-12-1973. Everett Dale Tuetken, 23, who has resided in Florida for 6 months, died in afire in his mobile home in Marathon, Florida, at 1 am on December 2. He was taken to Fisherman hospital in Marathon. He is the son of Everett Tuetken of Rural Route 1 Jerseyville and Mrs. Marion (Valda) Beach of Rural Route 4 Jerseyville. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm today (Dec. 6) at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. M. Edwards Breed officiating, with interment in Oak Grove cemetery. He was born in Alton June 12, 1950 and was a graduate from Jersey Community high school. A veteran of Vietnam, Tuetken had served 4 years in the US Marine corps. He was employed by Marathon Sea Food Company. In addition to his parents his survivors are his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. George Longfellow of Alton; 1 sister, Valda Jeanne Tuetken of Wood River; 3 half-brother, Roger and Larry Beach and Charles Tackwell of Jerseyville; step brothers and sisters, Maurice Dennis Roos, Godfrey, John Michael Roos, Jerseyville, Linda Schafer, Alton, Mrs. Clayton (Pat) Voegtle of Chicago, Mrs. Roy (Linda) Voegtle and Mrs. Diana Wirth. His paternal grandparents were the late Mr. & Mrs. Martin Tuetken. Visitation was held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
TUETKEN. Died 30-04-1972. Lula Mae Tuetken, 84, of Jerseyville, died April 30 at St. Joseph hospital in Alton. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at First United Presbyterian church with Rev. M. Edwards Breed officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. She was born April 11, 1888 in Rosedale, a daughter of James & Elizabeth (Smith) Crull. Her husband, Martin L. Tuetken preceded her in death. Mrs Tuetken was a member of the – incomplete
TUETKEN. Died 08-1967. Lt. Paul Edward Tuetken, 64, died Friday at St. Joseph hospital following a five week illness. He was a member of the Alton police force. Commital services were held at St. Francis cemetery Monday am. Father Francis Lee conducted the services at at the cemetery following a requiem mass at St. Patrick church in Alton. Lt Tuetken, a son of the late Mr & Mrs. Herman Tuetken was born in Jersey County. The former Jersey County resident had been a member of the Alton police force for 37 years, and prior to that time he worked for the American Oil Company. He wasa member of the Illinois and Madison County Police Association and the Police and Fireman Benevolent Association. He was also a member of the Eagles and the Holy Name Society of St. Patrick’s church. His survivors include his wife Mary Agness (Flynn) Tuetken of Jerseyville, Dan employee of St. Joseph hospital, Alton; 2 daughters, Mrs. Mary Sue Lorsbach of Hardin and Mrs. Betty Watson of San Jose, California; 2 brothers, Carl and Frank of Alton; 1 sister, Mrs. Margaret Bohannon of Fidelity, 5 grandchildren,and 1 g-grandchild.
TUETKEN. Died 11-1982. Robert C. Tuetken, 73, of Alton, died unexpectedly at 6:55 pm Monday at St. Louis University hospital. He retired in 1973 from Owens-Illinois Glass after 35 years of service. He was shipping foreman in the corrugating department. Born in Fidelity, son of the late William & Bertha (Crull) Tuetken, he married Velma I (Fenton) Tuetken on May 10, 1941, in East Alton. In additioin to his wife, surviving are 3 Daughters, Linda Rushing of Alton, Barbara Kaye Orr of East Alton and Rebecca Tuetken of Chicago; 2 sons, Allen and Robert, both of Alton; 6 grandchildren; 1 brother, Lewis of Alton; and 1 sister, Muriel Boetteger of Smithville, Texas. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm Wednesday at Gent Funeral Home. The Western Star IOOF Lodge #1 will hold services at 7:30 pm Wednesday. Services will be conducted at 1 pm Thursday at the Funeral Home with Rev. Walter C. Burk officiating. Burial will be in Medora cemetery. Memorials may be given to Heart Association or Medora cemetery.
TUETKEN. Died 23-01-1980. Josephine E. Tuetken, 85, of 1507 Laurel Circle, Clearwater, Florida, a retired Jersey County school teacher died January 23 at 2 pm at Druid Hills Nursing Home in Clearwater, followed by cremation. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 pm February 19 at Oak Grove cemetery here with Rev. M. Edwards Breed officiating. She had resided in Clearwater for 19 years and had been a patient at the Nursing Home 2 years. She formerly taught in Jersey County schools for over 50 years and had her first teaching assignment at the age of 16. Born in Jersey County April 3,1894, she was the daughter of the Late Henry J. & Minnie (Dewerff) Tuetken. Miss Tuetken was a member of the Community Reform church in Florida and First Presbyterian church of Jerseyville. She was a charter member of Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, serving as president from 1952 to 1956 and was a member and past Noble grand of the Ruby Rebekah Lodge and past president of the Southern Illinois Teacher Association. Her survivors include a foster daughter, Nadine (Felter) Wallisa of Peoria Heights. 1 Sister, Alberta Kebby of Clearwater, Florida; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters.

TUETKEN. Died 15-03-1985. Helena M. Tuetken, 61, Jerseyville, died at 12:10 pm March 15 in the emergency room at St. Joseph hospital in Alton, followed by cremation. She was secretary for the Illinois Department of Conservation, Region 4, in Alton. Born January 29, 1922 in Bunker Hill, she was the daughter of Pearl & Louise M. (Maxeiner) Rodell. Mrs Tuetken was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, No. 656, in Jerseyville, Jersey County Home Extension, First Presbyterian church and was a former member of the Jersey Community Hospital Board. She is survived by her husband, M. TUETKEN. Born 01-09-1899. Died 01-02-1952. Elmer R. Tuetken, 52, died unexpectedly at 12:30 am Friday, February 1 at St. Joseph hospital where he was employed as a night officer. He had never had any serious illness and although he had not been feeling well for several days his condition was not known to be cause for concern. Mr. Tuetken was a son of Herman J. & Mary Louise (Rotsch) Tuetken and was born September 1 1889, at Fidelity. He resided at Fidelity until he was 17 years old when he went to Alton and was employed at various industries. Before taking the position as night officer at St. Joseph hospital he had been a night Riding Deputy Sheriff. The decedent is survived by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Herman J. Tuetken of Fidelity; his wife, Freda (Heffrron) Tuetken of Alton; 3 brothers, Lt. Paul Tuetken of the Alton police department and Frank and Carl Tuetken of Alton, and 1 sister, Mrs. Margaret Bohannan of Fidelity. He was a member of Piasa Lodge of the Masonic Order in Alton. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon February 2, at 2 pm at burke Funeral Home in Alton. Rev. Roland Turnbull, pastor of First Baptist church officiated and burial was in Upper Alton cemetery.
TULLY. Died 06-02-1986. Mannie Lawrence “Jack Stiles” Tully, 54, died unexpectedly at his residence at 5 pm Thursday, February 6, 1986. He was born in St. Louis, the son of Isabelle (Ontis) Tully of Jerseyville and the late George Tully. On October 3, 1964, in Jerseyville, he married Linda (Shoptaw) Tully. The Korean war veteran had been employed as a millwright at Laclede Steel, retiring in 1974 due to illness. Surviving are his wife; 2 Sons, Steven L. of Fieldon and Lawrence L. of Box Elder, South Dakota; 2 grandchildren; 3 half brothers, James Crull of Florida, and Howard Crull and Perry Ontis, both of Fieldon; and 4 half Sisters, Phyllis Cunningham and Wanda Gundlach, Both of Jerseyville, Peggy Hazel Wonder of East Hardin, and Charlotte Suttles. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm Sunday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be held at 1 pm Monday. Graveside military rites will be conducted at Rosedale cemetery by the Jerseyville American Legion. Memorials may be given to St. Louis University Medical Center, Division of Cardiology.
TUNEHORST. Died 09-12-1954. Mabel J. Tunehorst, 70 years, 7 months, 3 days, died Thursday December 9 at 2 am at Depaul hospital in St. Louis following an extended period of ill health. Friends called at Arthur H. Hoppe Funeral Home in St. Louis from Friday until Saturday am when the body was brought to Jerseyville. Final rites for Mrs. Tunehorst were held Saturday, 2 pm, December 11, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. M. Edwards Breed, pastor of the Presbyterian church, officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs Tunehorst was a daughter of the late Herman F. & Emma (Lersche) Brockman and was born in Jerseyville on May 6, 1884. She had resided in Jerseyville until her marriage to Lee R. Tunehorst, when they moved to St. Louis where they have since resided.
TUNEHORST. Died 17-10-1921. Mrs. Alice Tunehorst, 59, wife of H. A. Tuenhorst, died at her home on Harrison St., Monday, at 3:45 am. Mrs Tunehorst had been ill for about 2 years and died on her 59th birthday. Mrs Tunehorst was the daughter of George W. Gard & Catherine Matilda (Dutton) Gard, and was born October 17, 1862. Survivors are her husband, H. A. Tunehorst, 1 sister, Mrs. Willis Hendreson, 2 brothers, William Gard of St. Louis, and George Gard of Los Angeles, California, 2 sons, Lee of St. Louis, and Earl of Jerseyville, and 1 grandson, Earl Tunehorst of St. Louis. Mrs Tunehorst had been 1 of 8 children. Mrs Tunehorst had been a devoted member of the Methodist church and also of the Methodist church choir for many years. The funeral was held at the Methodist church Wednesday, October 19,at 1:30 pm. Rev. L. W. Porter pastor of the church, officiated. Sevices were under the auspices of the Woman’s Auxiliary of American Legion, the members of which, attended in a body. Interment was in Oak Grove mausoleum. Edwards of Grafton; and Miss Dora Lohman of Waggoner, Illinois.
TUNNARD. Died 11-06-1911. George Tunnard, 75, was found dead in his barn, at his home near Delhi. Born in Lincolnshire, England in 1835. He came to America with his parents and lived in New York until 1853 when he came to Jersey County and settled near Delhi. (He came to Illinois in 1871 and settled near Delhi – discrepancy?) where he remained until his death on Sunday June 11, 1911 . He married Elizabeth (Weaver) Tunnard, November 21, 1863, she survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Mrs. Sarah Kenneda of Alton; and 1 son, John Tunnard of Delhi; and 2 grandchildren. Funeral was from his home June 13, 1911 at 2:30 pm. Rev. Stephen Catt officiated and internment in Edwards cemetery.

TUOHY. Died 06-07-1986. John A. Tuohy, 95, of Jerseyville, died July 6 at Garnet’s Chateau. He was born March 1, 1891, in Jersey County to Patrick Tuohy & Katherine (Croghan) Tuohy. He served in the Marine Corps in WWII and retired from Olin-Mathison Corp. on March 1, 1956. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier church, 4th degree Knights of Columbus and American Legion, WWI Barrack 1395. He was preceded in death by parents and brother Thomas. The funeral mass was July 9 at St. Francis Xavier church with Rev. Patrick Morrow officiating. Burial was in St. Francis Xavier cemetery. Memorials may be given to masses.
TUOHY. Died 01-1984. Thomas Earl Tuohy, 87, of Alton, died at 1:40 pm Saturday at St. Joseph hospital after a 5 week illness. Born in Jersey County, son of the late Patrick & Katherine Tuohy, he was a carpenter with Local #377 from March 12, 1923 until his retirement in 1957. He married Dora (Dillon) Tuohy in 1929 and she preceded him in death in 1970. Surviving is a brother, John of Jerseyville. Visitation will be from 9 am Tuesday until the time of the funeral mass which will be celebrated at 10 am at St. Patrick Catholic church with Rev. Edward Domme as celebrant. Burial will be in Bethalto cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. Patrick’s school and Marquette high school. Staten Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Patrick Tuohy, 83 years, 9 months, and 29 days, a retired farmer of Jersey County, died at 9:30 pm Thursday, January 16, at his home 718 Harrison St. following an extended period of ill health. Mr. Tuohy was the son of the late Daniel & Mary (Lynch) Tuohy, and was born in Ireland, March 17, 1863. He had engaged in farming in Jersey County for a number of years. Surviving him are 4 sons, John Dan, and Leo Tuohy of Jerseyville, and Thomas Tuohy of Alton. Funeral services were held from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville to St. Francis Xavier church, Monday, January 20, at 9:30 am. Requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. father John J. Clancy and interment was in St. Francis cemetery.
TURK. Died 04-1917. Harry Turk, died in New York City. His wife was Miss Hattie Knapp of Jerseyville. He leaves 2 daughters, Misses Margaret and Elizabeth Turk. He had been a patent lawyer.
TURK. Died 1917. Mrs. Harry Turk, died at her home in New York City, according to a telegram received by relatives. A telegram was received Monday am by them announcing her death had occurred Monday am. Her death occurred just 2 weeks to the day after that of her husband. Mrs Turk had been ill all winter of heart trouble, and was for a time, in a hospital, but had been removed to her home. She and her husband both were very ill at the same time, under the care of physicians and trained nurses. Her Jerseyville relatives have not heard the full particulars, but from what they have learned, it is doubtful whether, because of her own serious illness, she was ever in a condition to realize her husband’s passing away. The funeral will be held in New York where her husband is buried. Mrs Turk was Miss Harriet Knapp, a daughter of the late Robert Knapp of this city, 2 sisters, Miss Sue and Kate Knapp, 5 cousins, Mrs. Elias Cockrell, Miss Kittie Goodrich, Judge A. A. Goodrich and Mrs. H. W. Pogue; 1 niece, Mrs. H. F. Knapp. He last visited Jerseyville 3 years ago.
TURNER. Died 24-02-1975. Ida B. Turner, 97, a resident of Greenlawn Nursing Home, died February 24,at 1:50 am. The funeral services were conducted at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. W. J. Turner of Elsah officiating and interment was in Kane cemetery. She was born October 11, 1877 in Kentucky, the daughter of John & Nellie Turner.

TURNER. Died 27-03-1990. Alfred Eugene “Bud” Turner, 63, died at 1:25 am Tuesday, March 27, 1990, at Barnes hospital, St. Louis, Missouri, following an illness. Born in Greene County, he was the son of the late James Emery & Mildred (Reno) Turner. A US Army veteran of WWII and the Korean war, Turner retired in 1981 as a foreman from the Jersey Community Highway Dept., after 25 years of service. On August 5, 1950, in Jerseyville, he married Ann E. (Shaw) Turner and she survives. Also surviving are 1 son Rev. Terry Turner of Woodhull; 2 daughters, Elaine Turner of Carlinville and Tammy Turner at home; 2 foster sons, Robert Douglas of St. Louis and Joseph Nance of Carlinville; 2 grandchildren; 4 Sisters, Hazel Byland, Alberta Flowers and Betty Woolsey, all of Carrollton and Lou Stalcup of Naperville. 2 Brothers, Gilbert and Ruperd(t?) He was born August 15, 1908 in Tallula, a son of Mack & Amelia (Benge) Turner and was a shear operator at Olin Corp. Mr. Turner was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Jerseyville. His survivors are his wife, Pauline (Abbot) Turner; 1 son, Rev. William J. Turner, pastor of Newbern Assembly of God church; 3 daughters, Mrs. William (Clessie) Thurston of Jerseyville, Mrs. Paul (Bonnie) Hetzel of Kane and Mrs. Charles (Sheryl) Kassing – incomplete.

He was a son of the late Mr. & Mrs. William Turner and was born in Duluth, Kentucky. The decedent is survived by his wife, Margaret (Allen) Turner, 4 daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Burch, Mrs. Lucy Prough and Mrs. Ethel Ross of Carrollton and Mrs. Christina Carr of Kane; and 3 sons, Everett Clarence and Jack Turner of Kane. Born in Kane, a daughter of the late Sanford & Georgia (Ferguson) Reno, her husband James Emery Turner preceded her in death on November 5, 1974. They were married on October 1, 1921 in Kane. Surviving are 4 daughters, Hazel Byland, Alberta Flowers and Betty Woolsey, all of Carrollton and Lula Stalcup of Naperville; 1 son, Alfred Turner of Jerseyville; 14 grandchildren and 14 g-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5-9 pm today at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The funeral will be conducted at 2pm Thursday at the Funeral Home. TURNER. Died 07-09-1984. Gilbert P. Turner, 48, of rural Jerseyville died unexpectedly at 12:50 pm September 7 in the emergency room at Jersey Community hospital from an apparent heart attack. He was a self-employed farmer and trucking contractor. Born July 8, 1936 in Greene County, he was the son of Mildred (Reno) Turner of Jerseyville and the late Emery Turner who died in November 1974. He is survived by his wife, Betty (Mundy) Turner, whom he married June 18, 1955 in Jerseyville; 3 Daughters, Rhonda Abbott of Kane, Penny Hoffman of Dow and Dena Turner, at home; 1 grandson, Jeremy Abbott; his mother; 1 brother, Alfred “Bud” Turner of Jerseyville; 4 Sisters, Hazel Byland, Bertie Flowers and Betty Woolsey of Carrollton and Lula Belle Stalcup of Naperville. He was preceded in death by 1 brother. Services were conducted Monday afternoon at First Assembly of God church with Rev. Wayne Pendleton officiating. Burial was in Kane cemetery. TURNER. Died 24-10-1889. Lloyd H. Turner, 26 years, ?months, 29 days, died at his home in Fieldon, Thursday October 24, 1889. Funeral sevices were held the following day. Rev. John Belt officiating. Lloyd had many friends who deplore his loss and they extent to his bereaved mother, 1 brother and 3 sisters, their heartfelt sympathy, and trust they find comfort and consolation in knowing that God doeth all things well. Some time ago Lloyd contracted a severe cold while traveling with a brass band, and the cold developed into consumption of which he died. Lloyd was a member of the high school a few years ago and a bright student. He was also a splendid musician and at one time was a member of the obc band of this city, and was regarded one of its best players. He was a kind, sympathetic young man who made friends by the score, and who had the faculty of keeping those friends warm and dear to him. Lloyd had he lived would have ranked with the best musicians of the country, and his loss is keenly felt.
TURPENING. Died 1914. Miss Sarah Turpening, 18, a well known young lady of our city, died Friday evening at St. Joseph hospital in Alton whither she had been taken after a relapse following her recovery from typhoid. Saturday afternoon the remains arrived at the home of her parents, where Rev. E. T. Carrol conducted brief services Sunday afternoon. Interment took place in Oak Grove cemetery. The Republican extends sincerest sympathy in these hours of bereavement.
TURPIN. Died 12-01-1983. Horace G. Turpin, 82, died January 12 at Calhoun Care Center. Born in Waverly son of Louis & Leona (Tierney) Turpin. Married Edna Sevier who died in 1976. He leaves 2 sons, Horace, and Glenn, both of Jerseyville; 2 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren and 1 g-grandchild. A WWII US Army veteran, he retired in 1985 as a registered representative from Prudential Insurance Company of Alton after 33 years service. Born in Hamburg, he was the son of the late Horace G. & Ruby (Watts) Turpin. On November 25, 1946, in Chicago, he married Lenora (Kerns) Turpin and she survives. Also surviving are 1 son, Patrick Turpin of Jerseyville; 3 grandchildren; and 1 brother, Glenn E. Turpin of Jerseyville. Surviving are 1 son, Patrick Turpin of Jerseyville; 3 grandchildren; and 1 sister, Lavita Brown of Bonne Terre, Missouri, and Helen Mathis of Jerseyville. TWITCHELL. Died 20-08-1887. Annie (Sanford) Twitchell, 90, born in Weybridge, Vermont in 1797 and came to Illinois with her husband, John Twitchell in 1831 and lived on Apple Creek Prairie until the spring of 1833, when they moved to the farm where she died. Her husband died August 1833 leaving her with a family of 7 children, in the midst of uncultivated prairie with very little means except the then unimproved land of the present fine farm of her son, G. D. Twitchell. But she went forward and cared for and reared highly respected family to call her blessed. Funeral from Congregational church.
TWITCHELL. Died 1904. Lydia Twitchell, 81, died at her home in Kemper March 14, 1904. Funeral was on Wednesday.
TWITCHELL. Died 24-10-1891. Gaston D. Twitchell, 72, born in new Haven, Addison County, Vermont, January 1, 1819 died at Santa Rosa, California, November 24, 1891. Oldest son of John & Anna T. both natives of Vermont, whose union resulted in a familyof 8 Children; Gaston D., Mary Ann wife of August Stearns, of Litchfield, Illinois, Lydia living with deceased, Jennette, deceased in youth, Lottie deceased wife of John Ryan, deceased, near Virden, Illinois, Sidney L. of Virden, Illinois, Lorraine, deceased. Gaston moved to Illinois with his parents in 1831 to Greene County near White Hall, then to Jersey County in 1833 and settled on sec. 13, twn 9 range 10. His father died August 10, 1833, his death being first in town. This left Gaston with the care of the family consisting of a widowed mother, 5 sisters and 1 brother. He identified with Ruyle township for over half a cethury. He carried the first mail through from Alton to Jacksonville over the Jacksonville and Alton road shortly after the road was laid out. He acted as mail carrier one winter, making one round trip per week, occupying 2 days in going in each way. He traveled on horseback and was employed by the contractor whose name was Strong. In the language of the poet, “his live was gentle and the elements so mixed in him, that nature might stand up and say to all the world, “this was a man.” Funeral was from Kemper Congregational church. Rev. J. W. Bath of St. Louis and Rev. W. N. Rhodes of Upper Alton. Burial was in Deleware cemetery near his old home. Pall bearers: Henry Ryan, W. Ruyle, Lawrence Johnson, Orin Palmer, Isaac McCollister and John V. Rhodes.
