Attached is a photo of Florence E. Adams in her high school graduation dress, Jerseyville HS class of 1907.
Florence was born in Jerseyville in 1889. She was the 4th generation of Jersey County Adams’, her great grandfather, Newell L. Adams, having arrived there in 1833.
Florence became a teacher. Her first job was at age 17 in a one room school in Jersey County. She earned $280 for the 8 month school term.
Florence Adams was my grandmother. If you would like more information about her, let me know. I have a book on her.
