DRAINER. Died 20-05-1984. Carrie Louise Drainer, 99, a resident of Jerseyville care center, died May 20 at Jersey Community hospital. Funeral mass was celebrated at St. Francis church. Fr Patrick Morrow officiated and burial was in St. Mary cemetery, Fieldon. She was born in Fieldon February 26, 1885 to the late Peter & Anna (Bunse) Drainer. She was a member of St. Francis church and St. John Altar Soc., Carrollton. Surviving are her brother, Chris Drainer, Jerseyville; 2 sisters, Margaret Kanallakan, Jerseyville and Mary Duerr, Omaha, NE. Her parents 4 brothers and 1 sister preceded her in death. Memorials may be given to St. Francis church. Arrangements were from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville.


DRAINER. Died 10-1979. Carrie R. Drainer, 84, of Jerseyville, died at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home. Born in Jersey County, a daughter of the Late Fred & Hannah (Munsterman) Kanallakan, she married Peter F. Drainer April 1, 1912, in Fieldon. He died January 17, 1971. Surviving are 5 sons, Hubert of Kane, Linus and Eugene both of Jerseyille, Germane of Fieldon and Marvin of Grafton; 2 daughters, Dorothy Woelfel and Eva Walsh, both of Jerseyville; 27 grandchildren and 24 g-grandchildren. 5 brothers and 1 sister preceded her in death. Visitation and rosary were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. A funeral mass was celebrated at – incomplete.


DRAINER. Died 27-07-1987. Chris J. Drainer, 83, of Jerseyville, died July 27, at Jersey Community hospital.He was born September 12, 1903, in Jersey County to Peter F. & Anna (Bunse) Drainer. He was a carpenter and served in the army during WWII. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic church in Fieldon. Survivors are nieces and nephews. Visitation and rosary were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. William Hembrow celebrated the funeral mass July 29 at St. Mary church. Burial and military graveside services were be the American Legion at St. Mary cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. Mary church and masses.


DRAINER. Died 03-01-1979. Eliazbeth Drainer, 88, of Jerseyville, died January 3 at Greenwood Manor. She was born January 17, 1890 in Fieldon, a daughter of John & Margaret (Abrogast) Hagen and was the widow of Hugo H. Drainer who died October 18, 1963. Rosary and visitation were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral mas was held at Holy Ghost church, father William Hembrow celebrant. Burial was in Fieldon cemetery. Surviving are 1 brother, Louis Hagen of Fieldon, 2 grandchildren and 2 g-grandchildren. Her husband, parents, 1 Daughter, Irene Hagen, 3 brothers and 2 sisters preceded her in death.


DRAINER. Died 09-1980. Ernest Frank Drainer, 74, of Jerseyville, died of an apparent heart attack in the emergency room of Jersey Community hospital. A son of the late Peter & Anna (Bunse) Drainer, he was born in Jersey County and worked as a carpenter until his retirement in 1968. Surviving are 2 sons, Paul of Alton and Robert, Godfrey; 2 daughters, Dolores Bridges and Linda Tuetkin of Rosewood Heights; 3 Sisters, Carrie Drainer of Jerseyville, Mary Ann Duerr of Chicago, and Margaret Kanallakan, Fieldon; 1 brother, Chris Drainer of Fieldon; 14 grandchildren and 6 g-grandchildren. Visitation and rosary were at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral mass was at Holy Ghost church and was officiated by Rev. William Hembrow. Burial was in St. Mary cemetery. Memorials may be given to the heart fund.


DRAINER. Died 28-04-1955. Germane Emanuel Drainer, 89, retired Jersey County farmer, died April 28, at Boyd Memorial hospital in Carrollton where he had been a patient for 2 months. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Final rites were held at Holy Ghost church in Jerseyville. Fr Lionard Rathgeb, pastor of St. Mary church, Westwoods, officiated and interment was in St. Francis cemetery. He was a son of the late Peter C. & Ursula (Pitt) Drainer, natives of Germany, and was born in Jersey County on October 31, 1866. He had been retired for several years. He is survived by 1 brother, Peter C. Drainer of Jerseyville, nieces and nephews.


DRAINER. Died 01-1951. Pfc John D. Drainer, son of Mrs. Zita Drainer of Godfrey, (formerly of Jerseyville), died in a prisoner of war camp in January 1951. Mrs Drainer received a letter from Sgt Andrew J. Flanary, confirming the death. Sgt Flanary sent some of the identification papers which Pfc Drainer had been carrying when he was captured by the enemy in Korea late in 1950. He wrote that the young Jersey County soldier was in the same outfit with him and that he was Pfc Drainer’s Sgt and buddy. Sgt Flanary had been a POW for 3 years and was released in August. He returned to his home in September. The released POW wrote in part: “your son was captured in 1950, along with me and many others and unfortunately, he took sick not long after we were captured and died some time in Jan. 1951. I am sending what papers of his that I have. In these papers is a money order for $60 made out to someone else. I’ll give it to you and let you take care of everything”. The Drainer family was informed that Pfc Drainer was missing as of December 1950, and then was notified he was believed to have died in prison camp. Pfc Drainer was a son of Ernest Drainer of Jerseyville.


DRAINER. Died 18-02-1990. Mildred Josephine Drainer, 68, died February 18, 1990 at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis County, Missouri. She retired as a secretary from Drainer Equipment in Jerseyville. Born in Jersey County, she was the daughter of the late Anthony & Dora (Pieper) Tonsor. On February 22, 1941, in Fieldon, she married Linus Drainer. Surviving are her husband; 1 daughter, Betty Thomas of Gleb Carbon; 4 sons, Lawrence Drainer of Odessa, Texas, Gary Drainer of Dow, James Drainer of Pekin and Mark Drainer at home; 8 grandchildren; 1 sister, Alberta Breitweiser of Jerseyville; and 2 Brothers, Kenneth Tonsor of Jerseyville and Maurice Tonsor of Fieldon. Visitation and rosary were held at Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home, Jerseyville. Funeral mass was at Holy Ghost church in Jerseyville with Rev. William Hembrow as celebrant. Burial was in St. Mary cemetery, Fieldon. Memorials may be given to Holy Ghost school in Jerseyville or masses.


DRAPER. Died 26-05-1982. Allen L. Draper, 76, of Rural Route Jerseyville, retired farmer, died May 26, at the emergency room of Jersey Community hospital, from an apparent heart attack. He had gone outside for a while and later his wife found him lying in the yard and called the ambulance. Services were held from First Baptist Church, Jerseyville. Rev. V. Clay Noah officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. He was born March 5, 1906 in Pike County, a son of the late J. Riley & Carrie Draper. He is survived by his wife, Ione “Sis” (Riley) Draper whom he married April 22, 1940 in Rola, Missouri; 1 sister, Lula Laclede of Tyler, Texas; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 1 sis, Utha, a former editor of the Democrat News. Memorials may be given to the heart fund or First Baptist Church where he had been a member.


DRAPER. Died 08-11-1987. Ione Draper, 85, died November 8, 1987, at Jersey Community hospital. She was born in Jerseyville, the daughter of the late Albert & Lillie (Schultz) Riley. On April 22, 1939, she married Allen L. Draper in Rolla, Missouri. He died May 26, 1982. 1 nephew survives and 1 brother, Leonard Riley preceded her in death. Visitation was from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Service was held at First Baptist Church, Jerseyville. Rev. Charles Epperly officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church where she was a member.


DRAPER. Died 05-12-1989. Josephine Draper, 92, died December 5 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton, after an extended illness. She worked for Elm Garment Manufacturing Company for more than 10 years retiring in 1963. Born in Jerseyville, she was a daughter of the Late Homas & Effie (Paynter) Britton. On Ju1. 1, 1928, she married Jess W. Draper in Alton. He preceded her in death. Surviving are 3 daughters, Florence Biesemeyer of Tucson, Arizona, Frieda George of Inglewood, California, and Josephine Maynard of Cottage Hills; 1 son, Harold Hill of St. Louis; 7 grandchildren; and 15 g-grandchildren; and 7 g-g-grandchildren. No visitation was held. Graveside services were at Bethalto city cemetery. Elias-Smith Funeral Home of Godfrey was in charge of arrangement.


DRAPER. Died 13-03-1976. Miss Utha B. Draper, 68, of Jerseyville, retired editor of the Democrat News, died March 13, at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. She was born December 30, 1907 in Calhoun County, a daughter of James R. & Carrie B. (Jennings) Drainer. She had retired in July 1972 after 43 years working on the democrat news. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was formerly secretary of the Jersey Community Hospital Board. She is survived by 1 brother, Allen Draper, Jerseyville; 1 sister, Mrs. Tallulah Laclede, Dallas, Texas; and 1 nephew, Dr. David Robinson of Texas. Funeral was held March 16, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Everett Chambers officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to Jersey Community hospital building fund.


DRAPER. Died 12-04-1993. Linus W. Drainer, 77, died April 12, 1993, at his residence. The son of the late Peter F. & Carrie (Kanallakan) Drainer was born July 1, 1915, in West Woods. A WWII US Army veteran, he owned and operated Drainer Equipment Company in Jerseyville for 21 years. He married Mildred J. Tonsor of February 26, 1941 in Fieldon. She died February 18, 1990. Surviving are 1 daughter, Betty Thomas of Glen Carbon; 4 sons, Gary Drainer of Dow, Mark Drainer of Jerseyville, James Drainer of Pekin and Lawrence Drainer of Odessa, Texas; 8 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Dorothy Woelfel and Eva Brooks both of Jerseyville; and 4 brothers, Hubert Drainer of Kane, Germaine Drainer of Fieldon, Marvin Drainer of Grafton and Eugene Drainer of Jerseyville. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral mass from Holy Ghost church in Jerseyville. Rev. William Hembrow, celebrant. Military graveside rites were by Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 at St. Mary cemetery in Fieldon. Memorials may be given to St. Francis-Holy Ghost school of Jerseyville.


DREIER. Died 03-03-1988. Edwin B. Dreier, 69, of Rural Route Fieldon died March 3, at Jersey Community hospital. Dreier had resided at Jerseyville Care Center since Jan. Born in Jersey County May 19, 1910, he was a son of Ernest & Bertha (Upple) Dreier. He had retired in 1970 from Olin Corporation. Services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. James Pepper officiated and burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. Surviving are 1 son, Charles Dreier of Dunnellon, Florida; 2 daughters, Rosezzetta Hines of Carlinville and Pearl Davis of Alton; 7 grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Edith Evans of Fairview Heights; and 1 brother, Elmer Dreier of San Antonio, Texas. His wife, Mina (Besterfeldt) Dreier died in May 1970. Memorials may be given to the heart fund or American Cancer Society.


DREIER. Died 12-05-1970. Mina V. Dreier, 66, of Jerseyville, died May 12, at Boyd Memorial hospital in Carrollton where she had been a patient for 2 weeks. Visitation and services were held from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. M. Edwards Breed officiated and burial was in Valhalla cemetery, Godfrey. Mrs Dreier, daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Albert E. Besterfeldt, was born in Jersey County June 17, 1904. Surviving are her Husband, Edwin B. Dreier; 1 son, Charles L. Dreier of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Mrs. Glendale Hines of Carlinville and Mrs. Pearl Ferguson of Alton; 4 grandchildren; 3 brothers, John Besterfeldt, Cahokia, Enos Besterfeldt of Jacksonville, and Warner Besterffeldt of East Alton; and 1 sister, Mrs. Charles Starkes of Alton.


DRESSEL. Died 1918. Dr Warren Dressel, died at his home in Edwardsville of pneumonia. His death followed just 3 weeks after that of his twin brother, Dr. Walter Dressel of Carrollton, who also died of pneumonia. Funeral at home in Edwardasville and remains brought to the home of his parents Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Dressel, at old Kane. Burial was in old Kane cemetery. He leaves his wife and 1 son.


DREW. Died 30-05-1991. Huldah “Pat” Drew, 95, died May 30, at Rosewood care center in Alton. She was a former retail sales clerk at Inman’s and Donham’s Department stores in Jerseyville. She was a member of PEO, First United Methodist church and American Legion Post 492 Aux., all of Jerseyville. Born in Winchester on May 16, 1896, she was the daughter of the late Eli & Emmaline (Moore) Patrick. She and George Drew were married at Winchester. He died in July 1973. Surviving are 3 grandchildren, John Drew of Normal, Jim Drew of Lincoln, Barbara Drew Belshe of Jefferson City, Missouri; and 1 g-granddaughter. Preceding her in death were 2 sons, Bob G. and Jack Drew; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Visitation and services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Eastern Star 656 gave the rites of their order. Dr Dan Harry officiated and burial was in Winchester city cemetery. Memorials may be given to Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children.


DRING. Died 1890. John Dring, 70, was born in Lincolnshire, England, June 9, 1820. He came to America in 1851, to Canada, to Illinois, to Missouri, and returned to Jerseyville 7 years ago. He married Sarah (Treff) Dring. He was reared in the Church of England; was in the Civil War – Union – 8th KS Infantry. Member of Lowe Post GAR. Funeral from his home with Rev. Avery officiating. Casket was born by comrades to the 5:30 train, taken to New Haven, Missouri, for burial by the side of his first wife and their 7 children and where final funeral services were held.


DRIVER. Died 11-11-1977. Lester Charles “Doc” Driver, 72, of Rural Route Fieldon died November 11 at Jersey care center. Funeral was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. With Rev. Francis Varble officiating. Burial was in Borlin cemetery. He was born in Greene County, January 2, 1905 a son of Charles Ely & Frances (Goans) Driver and was a Quarry laborer. His wife, Stella (Schaaf) Driver, died March 19, 1968. He is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. Leeman (Nilda) Evans of Arnold, Missouri; 4 sons, Charles “Shorty” Driver of Carrollton, Robert and Elmer L. “Sam” Driver of Jerseyville and Thomas R. Driver of Fieldon; 14 grandchildren; 5 g-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Ruby) Carter of Carrollton and Mrs. John (Mina) Moore of Indiana. Memorials may be given to Borlin cemetery.


DROEGE. Died 01-1983. William Henry Droege, 78, died at St. Mary Health Center in Clayton, Missouri. Born in Meppen, he was the son of Henry & Anna (Hoemmen) Droege. He married Mary (Tepen) Droege in Calhoun County, November 1926, and she survives. Also surviving are 7 daughters, Mildred Schulte, Pauline Eschbach and Gerry Schleeper, all of Golden Eagle, Bertha Ybarra of East St. Louis, Martha Stelbrink of Kampsville, Rosemary Sagez of Hardin and Joan Bonner of Meppen; 3 sons, Aloys of Meppen, Patrick of S. Roxana and Wilfred of St. Louis; 44 grandchildren; 15 g-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Marie Hanneken of St. Charles, Missouri and Angeline Siemer of Meppen; 4 brothers, Edward, Elmer, and Frank Jr. of Meppen and Leo of Golden Eagle. Visitation was held at Hanks Funeral Home, Brussels. K of C recited rosary. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph Catholic church, Meppen by Rev. Louis Schlangen. Burial was in St. Joseph cemetery. Memorials may be given to Calhoun ambulance fund or St. Joseph parish.


DRULARD. John S. Drulard, 68, died at his home in Jerseyville January 19, 1907. He came home in the afternoon and asked his wife to get him some dinner. He went into the sitting room and sat down to read a letter they had received from their daughter, who lives in a distant city, while waiting for his dinner. When she called him he was sitting in his chair dead. She called Adolph Holnback, a neighbor, but their efforts to revive him were fruitless. He was a veteran of the War of the Rebellion, (civil), having served 4 years in the Union Army. He moved from Otterville to Jerseyville last fall.


DRULARD. Died 12-10-1906. Lester Drulard, 16, son of Mr. & Mrs. John Drulard, died at the home of his parents near Otterville, October 12, l1906. He had been ill of diphtheria. Funeral from family home. Rev. J. W. Teany serving.


DRULARD. Died 26-01-1918. Mary Drulard, 68, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lynn Dabbs, northwest of Otterville January 26. Mrs Drulard’s funeral was from the Dabbs home. Rev. Russel serving and burial was in Henson cemetery.


DRUMB. Born 1842? Charles Drumb, 91, resident of English Township, died at the Jersey County home, following an illness of 10 days. Surviving are 7 daughters, Mrs. William Johnson, Kalamazoo, Michigan, Mrs. Anna Peters of St. Louis, Mrs. Henry Shaw and Mrs. Jacob Wilhalm of Carrollton, Mrs. William Cummings of Dow, Mrs. Roscoe Orten of White Hall, Mrs. Jesse Reynolds of Jerseyville; 1 son, George Dewey Drumb of Carrollton; 28 grandchildren and 5 g-grandchildren. Funeral services were from Gubser Chapel, Rev. W. A. Steinkraus officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.


DRURY. Died 18-08-1982. Amy Drury, of Ardmore ?, Pennsylvania, wife of the late Lawrence V. Drury, former Jerseyville residents, died at her home on August 18. Sister in law of Mrs. Bryan Caffery of Jerseyville. She leaves 3 sons, Wm. of Lambertsville, NY, Paul of Baltimore, MD and Lawrence of Albuquerque, NV; 1 brother, Lee Birkenmayer of Miami, FL. Several cousins.


DRURY. Died 16-02-1988. Charles A. Drury II, 87, formerly of Calhoun County, died February 16, at Jersey Community hospital. A retired farmer, he was born in Sangamon County, son of the late Charles A. & Mary Lou (Henderson) Drury I. his first wife, Louise (Biship) Drury, died July 8, 1956. On October 9, 1963, he married Sadie (Fiedler), in Jerseyville and she survives. Also surviving are 1 son, Charles a Drury III of Stover, Missouri; 1 Stepson, Russell Jennings of Fraser, CO; 4 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Elbert Drury of San Diego, California, and Thomas Drury of Versailles, Missouri; and 2 sisters, Marie Royer of Virden and Lucille Lafevere of Cal. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 1 sister. Visitation and service were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. James Pepper officiated and burial was in Oak Grove.


DRURY. Died 10-1965. Frank E. Drury, 93, retired carpenter of Jerseyville, died at Jersey Community hospital where he had been a patient for 11 days. He had been in ill health for some time. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Requiem mass was celebrated at Holy Ghost church by Fr Paul P. Heinen and burial was in St. Francis cemetery. Mr Drury, a son of the late Charles S. & Sarah (Yeatman) Drury, was born in Macoupin County, July 19, 1872. As a young man he learned the carpentry trade in Kansas, and later came to Jerseyville to make his home in 1893. He married Lydia (Brusselbach) Drury of St. Louis, in Jerseyville on March 16, 1898, and the couple has spent the greater part of their married life in this city. Following his retirement from carpentry contracting, worked for several years in a small workshop at the rear of his home at 200 E. Carpenter. Surviving are his wife; 2 daughters, Mrs. Bryan (Augusta) Caffery of Jerseyville and Mrs. K. C. (Gladys) Benner of Pittsburg, PA; 1 son, L. V. Drury of Philadelphia, PA; 4 grandsons; 10 g-grandchildren; and 2 nephews. The grandsons, William L. Drury of Philadelphia, Paul E. Drury of Baltimore, Maryland, Lawrence C. Drury Jr., of Canton, Ohio, and Kenneth D. Benner of Pittsburg, were casket bearers for their grandfather.


DRYSDALE. Died 1897. Minnie Drysdale, formerly of Jerseyville, died in San Francisco, CA. Her husband Dr. G. N. Drysdale arrived here with the remains and funeral was held from Lebanon church. Rev. Porter officiating. She died from the effects of an operation. Mrs Drysdale was the youngest of 8 daughters of Mr. & Mrs. Silas Crane who have long since been laid to rest in Jersey County. She was the last of the family, all of her sisters having died of consumption. She left Jersey County some years ago due to her health. She was married to John Permar and later married Dr. G. N. Drysdale, both in California.


DUERR. Died 01-01-1987. Mary Ann Duerr, 92, formerly of Jerseyville, now of AR, died January 1 at Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas. She was born August 21, 1894, in Fieldon to the late Peter & Mary Ann (Bunse) Drainer. She married William J. Duerr, and he preceded her in death. She worked at J. P. Marsh in Chicago and was a member of St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church in Horseshoe Bend. Survivors include sons Gregory Duerr of Horseshoe Bend, Aloys Duerr of Lakeland, FL and Paul Duerr of Palos Park; daughters, Dorothy Hoeper of Homestead, Florida, Eugenia Beverling of Sunnyville, California, Clarissa Wilcox of Lodi, California, and Mary Ann Noble of Worth; brother, Christopher Drainer of Fieldon; 20 grandchildren; 19 g-grandchildren and 3 g-g-grandchildren. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral mass was January 5, at St. Mary church at Fieldon with Rev. Jerry Bunse officiated. Burial was in St. Mary cemetery in Fieldon. Memorials may be given to masses.


DUFF. Died 29-11-1991. Daisy Mae Duff, 64, died November 29, at her home. Born in Otterville on August 7, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Charles P. & Susan E. (Cox) Agee. She married George L. Duff on June 23, 1956, in East Alton and he survives. Also surviving are a son, Randell W. Duff of Gainesville, Florida; 2 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Charles Agee of Alton and Richard Agee of Denver, Colorado; and 3 sisters, Helen Buffington and Elma Zoss both of Alton, and Jane Heitzman of Dow. Cassidy, Alton, 22 grandchildren, 2 g-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Mollessie Lester of Jerseyville and Mrs. Birdie Crisswell of Patterson, California; 3 step sons, Robert Fidgely of Indianapolis, Indiana, John H. Duffield also buried at Keosouqua. She is survived by 3 daughters, Mrs. Irish, Miss Ida, Mrs. Ned Sharon of Carthage, Missouri and 1 son M. Edwin Duffield of Alton. She was a sister of E. O. Standard of Missouri.


DUGAN. Died 1915. Daisy Dugan, 36, wife of George L. Dugan, died recently. They lived on a farm 5 miles northeast of Jerseyville. She was the daughter of Martin & Anna (Leonard) Pruitt March 26, 1879. She and Mr. Dugan had 3 children. She was one of 9 children and the first to be touched by the hand of relentless death. Rev. Roy Williamson of Upper Alton officiated at the service and burial was in Pruitt cemetery.


DUGAN. Died 23-02-1974. Florence Hannah Dugan, 82, of Jerseyville, died February 23, in Waters Home, Jerseyville. Final rites were held February 26, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. R. E. George officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. She was born in Jersey County, August 2, 1891, a daughter of Fred & Clara (Benson) Brooks. DUGAN. Died 01-12-1968, George L. Dugan, 89 years, 3 months, and 19 days, retired farmer and auto mechanic of Jerseyville, died December 1, in Jacksonville. He had been in ill health for some time. Visitation and services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Louis Purcell, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr Dugan was a son of the late John W. & Emilene (Fitzgerald) Dugan and was born in Greene County on August 12, 1879. He and his son, Raymond Dugan, operated an auto repair shop in Jerseyville for a number of years. He is survived by his wife, Florence Dugan, Jerseyville; 3 sons, Leonard of Granite City, Raymond of Jerseyville and Robert Dugan of Quincy; 6i grandchildren; several g-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Clarence Dugan of Portland, OR. 1 daughter, Lucille, preceded him in death.


DUGAN. Died 21-07-1980. Raymond Ellsworth “Tim” Dugan, 75, formerly of Jerseyville, died July 21 at the Hillsboro Nursing Home. He was born April 9, 1905 in Jersey County, a son of George & Daisy Mae (Pruitt) Dugan and was a retired supervisor of state highways of the State of Illinois. Dugan served as a Jerseyville fireman for a number of years, was precinct committeeman in Jersey 4 and served as chairman of Republican Central Committee. He is survived by his wife, Lucy (Frazer) Dugan whom he married March 16, 1927; 2 Sons, Kenneth of Champaign and Donald of Alton; 1 daughter, Doris Bowers of – incomplete.

DUGGAN. Died 09-07-1971. Thomas Eugene Duggan, 11, died unexpectedly, July 9. He was the son of Edward J. Duggan of Jerseyville and was attending summer school at Jerseyville West elementary school. Thomas Eugene collapsed as he and his classmates and the on duty teacher were returning to the class room, following recess on the playground. Recognizing the boy was in serious trouble, Principal Kenneth Breden was summoned and the ambulance called although resuscitation was administered continually, he was dead on arrival at Jersey Community hospital. The boy had not mentioned not feeling well. The autopsy report had not yet been received. A funeral mass for the young boy was celebrated by Rev. Fr Robert Heintz at the church of the Holy Ghost and burial was in St. Mary cemetery, Fieldon. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Thomas Eugene was born in Alton, July 2, 1960 and had completed his fourth grade at Holy Ghost school. Surviving in addition to his father, are 2 brothers, Michael and Robert Duggan; 3 sisters, Patricia, Paula and Melody Duggan of Jerseyville, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Duggan of Fieldon. The death of the boy’s mother, Gladys (Siedler) Duggan, occurred April 29, 1969.


DUGGAN. Died 01-1969. Thomas S. Duggan, 76, a native of Jerseyville, died at Danville, Veterans Hospital. He was previously a patient at veterans hospital in Quincy for 11 years. Funeral services were from SS Peter and Paul Catholic church in Alton. Interment was in St. Patrick cemetery, Alton. Mr Duggan was a self employed painter, and was the first member of SS Peter and Paul church to be drafted in WWI. He received the purple heart and the silver star. He had been employed at Illinois Glass Company at one time. Survivors include 1 sister, Miss Margaret Duggan of Alton; and 2 brothers, John of Granite City and Patrick, St. Louis.


DUGGER. Died 22-12-1987. Emma E. Dugger, 73, of Jerseyville, died December 22, 1987 at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home. She was born November 26, 1914, in Jersey County to the late George Bowers & Beulah (Cope) Bowers. She married Glenn O. Dugger on September 24, 1932, in Medora. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church. Survivors include her husband, Glenn of Jerseyville; 2 sons, Leo Dugger of Bethalto and Laverne “Bernie” Dugger of Jerseyville; 1 daughter, Janet Gerbig of Jerseyville; 6 brothers, Paul Bowers of East Alton, Kenneth of Kane, George Jr. of Terrel, Texas, Charles and Floyd, both of Jerseyville and James; 2 sisters, Lois Dugger of Jerseyville and Helen Kinsey of Pontoon Beech; 10 grandchildren; and 4 g-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 Sisters, Mildred Gross and Lela Mae Bowers. Funeral service was December 24, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Bob Prettyman officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to Diabetes foundation.


DUGGER. Died 19-06-1976. William Edward Dugger, 90, of Jerseyville was dead on arrival June 19, Jersey Community hospital. He was born June 20, 1885 in Macoupin County, a son of Francis & Sarah (Eades) Dugger and was a retired janitor from Olin Corporation. Surviving are 3 sons, Glenn O, Loren E. and Wayne E. Dugger, all of Jerseyville; 1 daughter, Mrs. Hazel Camerer of Jerseyville; 13 grandchildren; 42 g-grandchildren and 15 g-g-grandchildren. His wife, Florence (Griffin) Dugger, his parents and 2 brothers preceded him in death. Final rites were held at Gospel Assembly Church in Jerseyville with Rev. Louis Kappler and Orlen Lane officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to Gospel Assembly Church Building Fund.

DUHADWAY. Died 1907. Charles W. Duhadway, 48, son of Caleb & Mary Duhadway, was born December 24, 1859 in Jackson, Jackson County, Ohio. They moved to Jerseyville in 1864. At age 15, he began as a drug clerk with George Ware, later clerk with T. F. Remer until 1885 he became member of Remer and Duhadway. In 1902 Mr. Remer withdrew and Mr. Kirby became his successor. In 1888 he married Lucia (Schattgen) Duhadway. They were parents of 2 children, Fred Alan and Estele Lois; 3 sisters, Mrs. Semma Hill, Miss Minnie Duhadway of Jerseyville and Mrs. Effie Noble of St. Louis. He had been director of National Bank, President of Carnegie Library Board. Pall bearers were, Hon. H. S. Daniels, J. J. Wiseman, W. Burnett, Geo. Locke, Dr. H. W. Rich, E. J. DUHADWAY. Died 17-02-1983. Cornelia Fulkerson Duhadway, 90, formerly of Jerseyville, died at her home in Pebble Beach, CA. She was the wife of the late Attorney Fred Duhadway of the law firm Duhadway and Suddes, Jerseyville. He was a member of First Presbyterian church, PEO sisterhood, DAR and Order of Eastern Star. She was the daughter of the late John F. & Harriet (Osborne) Powell. She is survived by 2 daughters, Mary Jean Craig of Pebble Beach, CA and Helen Margaret Thatcher of Edwardsville; 9 grandchildren and 14 g-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Leslie Powell of Longmond, CO and Roland Powell of Chicago. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. A memorial service followed and the cremains were taken to Oak Grove cemetery. Rev. M. Edwards Breed officiated.


DUHADWAY. Died 04-1958. Fred A. Duhadway, 67 years, 10 mos, 28 days, Dean of Jersey County lawyers, died at his home on N. Lafayette St., Jerseyville. He was preparing to go to his office and suffered the illness which resulted in his death. He had suffered from a heart malady for the past several years, but following a cold last week had returned to his usual office duties. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at First Presbyterian church, Jerseyville. Rev. M. Edwards Breed, officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr Duhadway was serving as an elder of the church at the time of his death. He is survived by his widow, Cornelia Duhadway; 2 daughters, Mrs. James W. (Helen Margaret) Thatcher of St. Charles, Missouri and Mrs. Gilbert F. (Mary Jean) Craig of St. Louis; 9 grandchildren and 1 sister, Mrs. B. A. Million of Evansville, IN. Attorney Duhadway was a senior member of the law firm of Duhadway, Suddes and Davis of Jerseyville. He was born in Jerseyville, May 31, 1890, the only son of the late Charles W. & Lucia (Schattgen) Duhadway. He had received his minor schooling in Jerseyville and graduated with the class of 1907. He then went to the U of I Champaign-Urbana receiving his degree in law in 1915. At that time he received the order of Coif Key, granted to the 4 highest ranking students of the class. He began his career as a partner of the late Walter J. Chapman, then state’s atty for Jersey co – incomplete.

DUNBAR. Died 27-10-1986. Mark E. Dunbar, 72, of Alton, died October 27, at Alton Memorial Hospital. Dunbar was employed at Owens Illinois Glass Company for 43 years and retired in 1975 from the mold repair department. He was born in Jersey County, a son of the late George & Ollie (Miller) Dunbar. He married Virginia (Bethards) Dunbar in 1933 and she survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Shirley Schmidt of San Jose, California; 2 sons, Ronald Dunbar of Alton and Mark Bernell Dunbar of Russelville, AL; 9 randchileren; 4 g-grandchildren; 1 brother, Ray Dunbar of Alton; 2 sisters, Gladys Patterson and Betty Whiteman, both of Alton; and 1 half sister, Connie Allen of Wood River. Visitation and services were from Smith Funeral Home, Alton. Rev. Ross Doyle officiating. Burial was in Upper Alton cemetery.

DUNBAR. Died 14-02-1887. Zebbidee Dunbar, 74, died April 14. Born in Middlebery (Burg ?) Vermont. He served in the Civil War. He married 4 times and had a family of 6 children, 3 of whom survive. DUNCAN. Died 10-09-1988. Forrest Duncan, 77, died Sep. 19, at St. Anthony hospital in Alton, following a lengthy illness. He retired from farming in 1967 and then sold insurance until 1979. He was a member of Quarry Township board at the time of his death. Born in Grafton, he was the son of the late William Frank & Zula (Fox) Duncan. He married Ethyl M. (Plummer) Duncan October 1, 1938 in Hillsboro, Missouri. She survives. Also surviving are 6 daughters, Janet Callahan of Grafton, Linda Brooks of Chatham, Joan Thomas of Miami, FL, Cheryl Barursachs of Clinton, Dee Copel and of Jerseyville and Trudy Duncan of Springfield; 1 son, William F. Duncan Fr of Grafton; 2 sisters, Fern Vedder of Dow and Esther Owens of Alton. Visitation and Masonic services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. He was a member of Grafton Full Moon Lodge #341 AF & AM. Grafton United Methodist church was place of services and Rev. Tommy Brewer officiated. Burial was in Hartford cemetery near Pere Marquette State Park. Memorials may be given to Hartford cemetery fund.

She was the daughter of the late Carl Louis & Anna Mae (Desherlia) Duncan, who lived in Grafton. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville and burial was in Scenic Hill cemetery, Grafton. She was born October 10, 1955. Surviving are 4 brothers, Sgt Carl Duncan, US Army in Germany, Raymond Louis, Wood River, Michael, East Alton, Rodger, Ibera, LA; and 4 sisters, Mrs. Charlene Sandridge, Pawnee, Barbara, East Alton, Brenda, Ibera, LA, and Margaret, Grafton; her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Charles Desherlia of Grafton and Mr. & Mrs. Raymond Duncan, Alton; and Mr. and Mrs. Crisp of Omaha, uncle and aunt with whom she resided.

Duncan Jr., of Grafton; 13 grandchildren; 1 g-grandson; 3 brothers, Stanley Plummer of Nagoya, Japan, Dr. Larry Plummer of Jerseyville and Thomas Plummer of Memphis, TN; and 1 sister, Shirley Munhall of Phoenix, Arizona. DUNCAN. Died 12-05-1942. William Duncan, 78 years, 1 months, 17 days, one of the older residents of Jerseyville, died at his home May 12. He had been ill for 6 weeks. The deceased was the son of the late John & Catherine (Costello) Duncan and was born in Jersey County, April 5, 1864. He is survived by 2 brothers, Thomas and Walter Duncan of Jerseyville; 3 sisters, Mary and Margaret Duncan of Jerseyville and Mrs. Nicholas Polus of St. Louis. Funeral services were from St. Francis church May 12. Requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr John J. Clancy and interment was in St. Francis cemetery.


DUNCAN. Died 10-07-1967. William F. Duncan, Sr., 85 years, 9 months, 13 days, well known retired Grafton farmer, died July 10, at Alton Memorial hospital where he had been a patient for 5 weeks. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services were held at Methodist church in Grafton July 12. Rev. Charles R. Morris officiated and burial was in Hartford cemetery. Mr Duncan was a son of the late Isaih Clark & Ruth (Flippo) Duncan and was born in Jersey County September 27, 1881. He was a farmer in the Grafton area until his retirement a few years ago. He was a member of Jersey County Farm Bureau and Grafton Methodist church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Zula F. Duncan of Grafton, 2 daughters, Mrs. Fern E. Vedder and Mrs. Esther Ruth Owens of Alton, 1 son, Wm. Forrest Duncan of Grafton, 8 grandchildren and 3 g-grandchildren. 2 brothers and 3 sisters preceded him in death.

She was born July 24, 1885 at Grafton the daughter of Patrick & Esther (Austin) Fox. She was a member of Grafton Methodist church. She is survived by 1 son, Forrest Duncan of Grafton; and 2 daughters Mrs. Edward (Fern) Vetter of Dow and Mrs. Melvin (Esther) Owens of Alton; 8 grandchildren and 8 g-grandchildren. Her husband, William F. Duncan, preceded her in death.

He leaves his wife; 1 son, Mark; 5 brothers, Oscar of St. Louis, Oliver, Charles, Stephen, Walker and Henry; 3 sisters, Mrs. Julia Miller, Mrs. Nano Cummings, Miss Bell Dunham. He was born on the Dunham farm 5 miles west of Fieldon, where 4 of the brothers now live. They are one of the wealthy families of the Fieldon area. German Evangelical church, Rev. F. O. Wilson.


DUNHAM. Died 04-01-1927. Charles Lester Dunham, 1 year, 20 days, died at the home of his parents in Rosedale Township, January 4, following a short illness of pneumonia. Funeral services were held from Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Fieldon, January 5. Interment was in Fieldon cemetery.


DUNHAM. Died 12-04-1983. Edward H. Dunham, 73, farmer of Rural Route Fieldon, died April 12 at his home. Born October 10, 1910 in Jersey County, he was the son of the Late Otto & Mary (Freand) Dunham. Arrangements were in charge of Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at Fieldon UCC with Rev. Robert Broeder officiating. Burial was in Fieldon cemetery. Survivors are his wife, Hazel (Devening) Dunham whom he married October 12, 1932 at Jerseyville; 2 sons, Joseph of Fieldon and Ralph of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Faye Lavey of Fieldon and Deborah Haag of Jerseyville; 2 brothers, Otis Dunham, Jerseyville, and Robert Dunham, Alton; 4 sisters, Lillie Mundy, Imogene Burch and Nina Green, all of Jerseyville, Margie Green, Payson, Arizona and Ruth Russell, Hettick; 16 grandchildren and 9 g-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter, 2 brothers, and 1 grandchild. Memorials may be given to Fieldon UCC, where he was a member.

She was born February 3, 1950 at Carrollton, a daughter of Russell Wayne & Virginia (Norby) Kinser. She was a machine operator at Roper Plastics. DUNHAM. Died 30-01-1988. Jerry D. Dunham, 22, was dead on arrival at Carlinville area Hospital, after injuries received in an auto accident. He was born in Jerseyville, the son of Robert & Judy (Wyatt) Dunham of Shipman. Surviving are his parents, his wife, Linda (Erwin) Dunham; 1 son, Robert Dunham at home; 1 sister, Sherry Seets of Brighton; 3 brothers, Terry, Kevin, and Kelly Dunham, all of Shipman; maternal grandparents, Dorothy Wyatt of East Alton and William Wyatt of Carlinville; and paternal grandmother, Armeda Dunham of McClusky. Services were conducted at Targhetta Funeral Home in Shipman. Rev. Charles McDonald officiated. Burial was in Shipman cemetery. Memorials may be given to charity of one’s choice.


DUNHAM. Died 16-08-1988. John J. Dunham, 92, died August 16, 1988, at Calhoun Care Center in Hardin. He was a retired farmer and US Army WWI veteran. Born in Jersey County, he was the son of the late William & Frances (Keith) Dunham. Nieces and nephews survive. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Nettie Ford and Cora Flynn; and 3 brothers, Charles, William and Elroy Dunham. Visitation and services were from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. DUNHAM. Died 29-11-1965. Lester Barney Dunham, 52 years, 7 months, and 4 days, of Rural Route Fieldon, died November 29, at Jersey Community hospital where he had been a patient the past 5 weeks. Funeral services were held December 1 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Dorcia Hill officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr Dunham, an employee at Laclede Steel, Alton, was born in Greene County, a son of the late Otto & Mary (Freand) Dunham. Surviving are his wife, Armeda Dunham; 6 Sons, Frank of Eldred, James of Godfrey, Eugene of Alton, Gerald of Medora, and John and Larry, who reside at home; 3 daughters, Mrs. Irene Cresswell of Fieldon, Mrs. Nina Wieble of Perryville, Missouri, and Clara at home; 22 grandchildren; 5 sisters, Mrs. Benton Mundy, Mrs. Harold Burch, and Mrs. Nina Green of Jerseyville, Mrs. Leslie Green of Phoenix, Arizona, and Mrs. John Russell of Hettick, and 3 brothers, Edward of Fieldon and Otis and Robert Dunham of Jerseyville.


DUNHAM. Died 17-08-1955. Marion C. Dunham, 46 years, 10 months, and 29 days, was found dead by her husband August 17, in Reno, NV. The family was enroute to Jerseyville to visit Lt Col. Dunham’s mother, Mrs. Margaret Dunham. The family had recently returned from Japan. Funeral services were held August 25, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. John M. Young, Jr., pastor of St. Paul Episcopal Church in Alton, officiated at rites. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. She was born in Dublin, Ireland on September 18, 1908. She was a daughter of the late Thomas J. Eager & Mrs. Annie (Barnaby) Eager. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her 5 year old son, Paul Wayne Dunham; her mother, Mrs. Annie Eager; 1 sister, Miss Harriett Eager of Dublin, Ireland; 2 brothers, Robert Eager of Dublin and Thomas Eager of South Africa.


DUNHAM. Died 08-1928. Martha Ann Dunham, 78, was struck by lightening, while doing the family wash. Martha died at the home of her son in law Wm. Murphy. Funeral from that home and burial in Lax cemetery. Rev. T. J. Roady.


DUNHAM. Died 29-04-1956. Mary C. Dunham, 89 years, 1 months, 6 days, of Jerseyville died April 29, at Watson Nursing Home where she had resided for quite some time. Mrs Dunham was a daughter of the late Frank & Julia (Albert) Kraushaar, and was born in Jersey County, March 23, 1867. She is survived by 1 sister, Mrs. Anna Carroll of Jerseyville, 2 grandchildren and 4 g-grandchildren. Her husband, John Dunham, preceded her in death. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services were held at St. Francis church. Requiem mass was celebrated by Fr John J. Clancy and interment was in Fieldon cemetery.


DUNHAM. Died 30-6-1915. Maynard Dunham, 66 years, 4 months, 25 days, former Jersey County resident, died suddenly at his farm near Roseau, Minnesota, June 30. Word was received here by his sister in law, Mrs. J. J. McGuire. Mr Dunham had suffered from a heart ailment for sometime. He was a son of the late Mrs. Mary Thomas and was born February 5, 1893 at Fieldon. He was married to Lucy (Mowen) on October 7, 1915 at Jerseyville. The couple had resided in Minnesota for several years. Surviving are his wife, of Roseau, and 11 children, Mary, Kenneth and Marlin of Kenosha, WI, Rea Lee, Winifred and Raymond of Roseau, Minnesota, Thelma of Greenville, Illinois, Ben, Helen, Roberta and Marjorie of Litchfield, Illinois and 1 sister, Alice of MN. Services were held in Roseau July 2. The body was then brought to Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where final rites were held July 6. Rev. Earl W. Dickey, pastor of First Methodist church, officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.


DUNHAM. Died 15-06-1973. Nellie Dunham, 82, died June 15, at Garnet’s Chateau. Final rites were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. James Connett officiated and burial was in Fieldon cemetery. Born November 17, 1890 in Fieldon she was the daughter of Louis & Lena (Goetten) Vahle. She was a member of the Senior Citizens and Methodist church. She is survived by 1 grandson, Spencer Dunham, Texas; 3 g-granddaughters, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Frank and Oliver Dunham.


DUNHAM. Died 20-01-1988. Roger Lee Dunham, 42, died January 20, 1988, at Jersey Community hospital. A Vietnam Air Force veteran, Dunham was a machinist in Owens-Illinois machine shop. He was born in Fieldon, the son of Robert W. & Mabel (Kraushaar) Dunham of Alton. On October 12, 1968, he married Judy (Chipman) Dunham in Jerseyville and she survives. Also surviving are 1 son, A. C. Dunham at home; 1 daughter, Tiffany Dunham, at home; 5 brothers, Robert L. Dunham of Alton, Tim Dunham of Godfrey, Patrick Dunham of Thibodaux, LA; and 4 sisters, Carol Stout of Jacksonville, Pamela Harrison of Alton, Patricia Bradfisch of Grafton and Lisa Cheatham of St. Louis. Visitation from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, services from First Baptist Church, Jerseyville. Rev. Charles Epperly officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church, where he had been a member and on the Board of Christian Education, of the Children’s Home and Aid Society in Alton, of which he was on the board of directors.

DUNHAM. Died 12-01-1983. William B. Dunham, 81, died January 12 at Boyd Memorial hospital in Carrollton. He was born May 11, 1901 in Greene County, son of Wm. D. & Frances (Keith) Dunham. He leaves his wife, Maxine (Duggan) Dunham; 1 daughter, Hazel Liles, Kane; 1 brother, John Dunham of Jerseyville, 3 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Funeral from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. R. E. George, burial was in Lax cemetery.


DUNHAM. Died 1922. William P. Dunham, 38 years, 6 months, 20 days, was instantly killed when the oil truck he was driving , was struck by one of Nelson Brothers trucks, driven by Morris Temple. With Dunham in his oil truck, was J. L. Pfeneger, who was unhurt. Pfeneger stated that Dunham was driving east of Spruce St. when they observed the Nelson truck coming n of Jefferson. Dunham threw up his left hand, indicating that he was going to turn north onto Jefferson, then apparently changed his mind and continued east on Spruce. Just as the oil truck reached the middle of Jefferson St. it swerved, and the oil truck was turned half way around so that it was facing south. The oil truck then started to skid, and after rolling east for about 14 yd, turned over into a ditch, pinning Dunham underneath. The back seat of the oil truck alighted on Dunham, crushing in the back of his head and breaking his neck just below the base of the brain. He lived only about 5 min. Pfeneger cleared the truck as it turned over, and was hurled about 4 ft in the air, alighting in the ditch just beyond the truck where Dunham was pinned underneath. Jesse “Bud” Cope, employed at Siebenmann Garage, witnessed the accident from the rear door of the garage. He told the office girl, Miss Bernadine Corzine, to call a Dr., and then with Carl Keehner, also on Siebenamn’s Garage, ran down to the accident. These 2 men assisted by Pfenger, lifted the truck off Dunham and carried the dying man to a clean spot of grass. Dr Laurens Enox and Dr. B. A. Marsden, arrived but could do nothing as Dunham had died shortly after their arrival. The body was removed to Jacoby undertaking parlors, where an inquest was to be held. He was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Parker Dunham of Jerseyville. He leaves his wife and 7 children as follows: Rupert, 13, Alma, 11, Cecil, 9, Tressie, 7, Velda, 6i, Duewell, 4, and Thumann, 2. His widow was heart broken over the tragedy which snatched her husband from her, and the children, although small are crushed with grief, as were the parents. Funeral services were from the home of his parents, on Giddings Ave. and then to the Baptist Church, November 13. Rev. R. B. Favoright, assisted by Rev. Joseph Jenkins, officiated. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Dunham was a member of the Modern Woodmen and Hickory Grove Camp had graveside services.


DUNLOPE. Died 07-09-1980. Harry Dunlope, 92, of Grafton died September 7 at Blu Fountain Manor, Godfrey. Services were conducted at Jacoby Funeral Home in Grafton. Rev. Robert Patterson officiated. Burial was in Scenic Hill cemetery. He was a WWI veteran and had operated a fish market in Grafton. He was born August 9, 1888 in Grafton, a son of William & Rachel (Odum) Dunlope. Surviving are his wife, Katherine, 1 stepson, Robert Wagner of Wichita, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister. Memorials may be given to the heart fund.


DUNLOPE. Died 1983. Kathryn Dunlope, 88, former resident of Alton, died at Blu Fountain Manor Nursing Home, Godfrey. Daughter of the Late Bernard & Mary Platte, she was born in St. Louis, and married Clinton Wagner who preceded her in death. She later married Harry Dunlope, who died September 7, 1980. Surviving are 1 grandchild, 1 g-grandchild and 1 niece Mildren Dunlope of Grafton. Visitation from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton. Funeral mass was celebrated at St. Patrick church with Rev. Joseph Deneen as celebrant, and burial was in Scenic Hill cemetery.


DUNLOPE. Died 30-10-1987. Mildred Viola Dunlope, 76, died October 30, 1987, at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton. Born in Grafton, she was a daughter of the late William & Cumi Edna (Bailey) Dunlope. Miss Dunlope had been a grade school teacher in Alton School District 11. Private funeral services were conducted. A memorial service was held at First United Methodist church of Grafton. Memorials may be given to the church. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park. Mr Dunlope, a son of the late William & Rachel (West) Dunlope, was born in Grafton, January 20, 1886. He was a member of Grafton Methodist church, and Full Moon Lodge, #341, AF & AM. Surviving are 1 daughter, Miss Mildred Dunlope of Grafton, and 1 brother, Harry Dunlope of Grafton.


DUNLOPE. Rachel Dunlope, 76, wife of William Dunlope of Grafton, died April 2, at St. Joseph hospital in Alton where she had been a patient for several days. For the past 2 months Mrs. Dunlope had been in failing health and several days ago submitted to a major operation. Besides her husband she is survived by 4 sons, William and Frank Dunlope of Grafton and Harry and James Dunlope of Memphis, TN. Arrangements . . . incomplete.


DUNN. Died 28-10-1978. Dennis K. Dunn, 72, died at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home. He was born in Chesterfield, February 23, 1906, a son of the late Martin M. & Margaret (Shea) Dunn and was a retired foreman in a tube mill. Survivors are his wife, Cleta (Barnard) Dunn of Rural Route 1 Jerseyville; 1 son, Kevin David Dunn of Jerseyville; 3 daughters, Marsella Dunn of Sunnydale, California, Judy Croteau, Buena Park, California and Violet Warix, Dow; 1 brother, Phillip J. Dunn, Jerseyville; 5 sisters, Irene Shirach, Monico Harlow and Ann Wittman, Alton, Mary Schieffelin, Mobile, AL and Edith Burch, Brandenton, FL, and 11 grandchildren. His parents and 1 brother, Mark Dunn preceded him in death. Services were conducted October 31, at Delhi Baptist Church with Rev. Earl Clagg and Rev. James Maxwell officiating. Burial was in Richwood cemetery near Roodhouse. Memorials may be given to Cancer fund.


DUNN. Died 1879. Jane J. Dunn, 53, died at the home of her father, William J. Herdman. Born December 9, 1826 in New York. She joined 1st Presbyterian church at Haverstraw, NY. Moved with her family, to Randolph County, Illinois in 1842. She married James R. Dunn of Chester, Illinois. He died of cholera, May 6, 1849. Her only child, James Richard, died August 9, 1850. She came to Jersey with her father in 1854. She was one of the original members of the 2nd Presbyterian church, which was organized in 1857. Her mother died in 1856. Those of her immediate relatives who survive are her father, Wm. J. Herdman; 1 sister, Mrs. Mollie L. McGready of Nilwood, IL; and 3 brothers, David R. and Henry J. Herdman, of Morrisonville, Illinois, grain merchants there; and Hon. Geo. W. Herdman, State Senator from this district. Mrs Dunn “passed” in the bright hope of glorious immortality. DUNN. Died 09-05-1972. John Lawrence Dunn, 53, died May 9, at Jersey Community hospital. He had been ill for some time. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial was in Shipman cemetery. A core maker at Hutchinson Foundry, he was born August 27, 1918 in Macoupin County the son of John & Stella (Ladley) Dunn. Mr Dunn was a member of Jerseyville Moose Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Iola (Crays) Dunn of Jerseyville; 1 son, Jerry Dunn of Fayetteville, NC; 2 daughters, Mrs. Ronnie (Margean) Wade of Springhill, LA, and Mrs. Thomas (Stella) Hughes Jr. of Jerseyville; 2 stepdaughters, Mrs. George (Viola) Griffith of Carlinville and Miss Linda Schwab of Jerseyville; 2 Stepsons, Eugene Schwab of Bridgeview and William Schwab of Jerseyville; 13 grandchildren; 2 brothers, David Dunn of Palmyra and Dale Dunn of Carlinville; 2 sisters, Mrs. Marie Hughes of Carlinville and Mrs. Faye Dugger of Enos.


DUNN. Died 13-01-197? Phillip Dunn, 75, Rural Route Jerseyville, in the Delhi area was found dead at his home, January 13. The WWII Navy veteran was born December 28, 1907 in Chesterfield a son of Martin & Margaret (Shea) Dunn. He was retired from Laclede Steel Company, Alton. Surviving are 5 sisters, Eileen Shirack, Alton, Monica Harlow and Ann Wittman, Alton, Edith Brush, Bradenton, FL and Mary Schieffelin, Mobile AL. His parents and 2 brothers preceded him in death. Visitation and rosary from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral mass was celebrated at St. Francis church. Rev. Fr William Hembrow as celebrant. Burial was in St. Patrick cemetery, Alton. Memorials may be given to St. Francis Xavier school.


DUNNEGAN. Died 11-02-1904. W M. Dunnegan of west side, Otterville, died February 11 and was buried in Worthy cemetery. Old citizen of Otter Creek.


DUNPHY. Died -06-1969. Cora R. Dunphy, 95 years, 11 mos, 13 days, died at St. Anthony Hospital, Alton. She had been there since June 5, 1965. Visitation was held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where the rosary was recited. Requiem mass was celebrated by Fr Francis Lee, at St. Francis church. Interment was in St. Francis cemetery. Mrs Dunphy was a daughter of the late Lawrence & Rebecca (Neely) Powers and was born in Jersey County August 9, 1873. She was the last member of an early Jersey County family and was preceded in death by her parents and 9 brothers and sisters. She was twice married, first to William “Doc” Cudahey in 1905, he died in 1907. In 1913 she married John Dunphy who died 1932. Familiarly known as “Sis”, she had lived all of her life in Jersey County and had made her home at 117 S. State St. for 54 years before entering the hospital. When a young woman, she had taught school. She was active in civic affairs and through the years was known for her sound judgment and ready wit. She was a member of St. Frances church, pastoracle of Royal neighbor Lodge and in 1965 received the 50 year award, and a member of Woman’s Relief Corps. She is survived by nieces and nephews.


DUNPHY. Died 13-05-1892. John Dunphy, Jr., 22, died at his home May 13, 1892. He was born in Jerseyville, January 3, 1870. He married Katie (Rountree) Dunphy, September 30, 1891. Funeral from St. Francis church, Rev. Fr Marks serving. Pall bearers: T. W. Ryther, W. Hanley, T. F. Ferns, Edward Burns, James Power, M. Fitzgibbons, T. Fitzpatrick, and James O’Loughlin.


DUNPHY. Died 1919. Mrs Mary Dunphy, one of the best known older residents of Jerseyville, died at her home on W. Pearl St.


DUNPHY. Died 23-05-1911. Mary Dunphy, 58, died at her home in the Dunphy Hotel, May 23, 1911. Mary died daughter of Patrick & Margaret Doyle was born in Mt. Vernon, OH, May 5, 1853. She married John Dunphy in Joliet, Illinois June 1, 1873. They moved to Jerseyville in 1874. They had no children, but reared 3 girls and 2 boys. She is one of the best known women in Jersey County, having conducted Central Hotel for many years and later opening the Dunphy Hotel on S. Main St. Funeral from St. Francis and burial in church cemetery.


DUNPHY. Died 1887, buried St. Francis cemetery. Patrick Dunphy, 43, died at Sisters Hospital in Alton. Funeral from St. Francis church, Fr Harty. He was born in county Tipperary, Ireland, March 9, 1844 and came to USA in 1862 with his mother, his father having died that year – 1862. They moved to Jerseyville in 1865. He worked for H. N. Cross on the farm. In the grocery business for several and in 1877 he opened a saloon, in which business he continued until his death. He held several offices in Western Catholic Union. In 1884 he built the large brick building on S. Main St. and a short time previously bought the fine residence on W. Pearl St. now occupied by his family. In February 1867, he married Mary (Dwyer) Dunphy of Jerseyville who was also a native of Ireland. Parents of 6 children, 1 dying at age 3. Others Are Annie, John, Maggie, Katie and Nellie. He leaves brother and sister as follows: Thomas Dunphy of Janesville, WI, Mrs. Edward McGrath, Mrs. Nicholas Wallace and John Dunphy of Jerseyville and Mrs. Wm. Cummings of Muskegan, Michigan. Mrs John Murphy formerly of Jerseyville is also a sister. Pall bearers: John Jennings, Patrick Dugan, John Sweeny, T. F. Ferns, J. A. Sheppard, Charles Schmieder, James Fitzgerald and Robert Kinsla. There were 69 vehicles in the funeral procession.


DUNSDON. Died 1896. Mrs Julia B. Dunsdon, died at home August 1896. Funeral from the home, Rev. Tyson officiating. One of Jerseyville’s aged and respected citizens. She was the mother of Dr. W. E. Holland, Mrs. J. I McGready and Mrs. Julia Stoeckel.


DUNSDON. Died 1895. Lulu Dunsdon, 8, step daughter of John G. Mode, died Monday of typhoid fever, after an illness of about 2 weeks. Funeral held at the home of Frank Eisler, Rev. Ira C. Tyson officiating.


DUNSING. Died 10-02-1988. Everett Edward Dunsing, 73, died February 10, 1988, at Jersey Community hospital. Retiring in 1976, he had been a rural mail carrier for 7 years, and a landscaper for Principia College in Elsah. Born in Madison County, he was the son of the late Edward H. & Magel (Cornelius) Dunsing. He married Mabel (Reno) Dunsing August 22, 1936, in Jerseyville; she survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Shirley Ayres of Jerseyville; 3 sons, Edward, Richard and Edgar Dunsing all of Jerseyville; 3 grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Elen Reno of Jerseyville; and 2 brothers, Ray and Donald Dunsing Both of Jerseyville. DUNSING. Died 05-08-1987. Fred Dunsing, 86, of Rock Island, formerly of Wood River, died August 5, 1987, at Franciscan Medical Center in Rock Island. Dunsing was a laborer and custodian at Shell Oil Company for many years before his retirement. He was born in Fieldon, son of the late William & Mena (Groppel) Dunsing. On July 18, 1948, in East Alton, he married Millie Campbell, and she survives. Also surviving are 1 step Daughter, Loreta Stampley of Rock Island; 1 stepson, Luther Calvert of Godfrey; 7 step grandchildren; and 11 step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 stepdaughter, 1 brother and 1 sister. Visitation and services from Marks Mortuary in Wood River. Masonic rites were conducted by Wood River Masonic Lodge #1062 AF & AM. Burial was in Woodland Hill cemetery, Wood River.

Fitzgerald at the farm the Fitzgeralds had recently purchased near McClusky. Funeral was from St. Francis but arrangements were not to be completed until her son James Durney, of San Francisco, was reached. She leaves 5 children, Mrs. Mary Herget, Mrs. Anne Schlagel of St. Louis, John T. Durney of East St. Louis, James Durney of San Francisco and Mrs. John Fitzgerald of Jerseyville. She had lived in Jersey County nearly all her life, coming here when a child.


DURNEY. Died 10-1890. James Durney, 60, born in parish of Tim Floran, County of Kilkenny, Ireland in 1830, came to America and located in the state of Connecticut, in 1854. In 1857, he came to Jersey County. Pall bearers: James Fitzgerald, Matthew Grace, Robert Wall, Wm. Murphy, James Welch, Patrick Reardon, Dennis Phalen and John Bray.


DURNEY. John P. Durney, died at Alexian Brothers hospital in St. Louis. He leaves 2 brothers Richard and William Durney; 1 sister, Mrs. Bart Slattery. The remains were brought to Jerseyville and funeral was from St. Francis church. Rev. J. J. Clancy officiated. Burial in Catholic cemetery.


DURNEY. Died 1893. Michael Durney, 67, born in Kilkenny, Ireland in 1826, came to America 1850. He moved to Jersey County in 1856 and married Hannah Walsh in 1857.


DUTCH. Died 10-09-1976. Mrs. M. Birdie (Noble) (Filner) Dutch, 76, died on September 10, in Lakeland, FL. She was born April 18, 1900 in Otterville. Formerly of Ann Arbor, Michigan, she was a member of the First Congregational Church of Ann Arbor, past President of American Legion Auxiliary and past President of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Her survivors include her husband, Alfred J. Dutch of Lakeland, Florida; 1 daughter, Mrs. Walter V. (Carlene) MaCarthur; 1 son, John M. Felner, both of Ann Arbor; 5 grandchildren; 4 Sisters, Nellie Noble of Ann Arbor, Mrs. Earl (Alma) Schroeder, Mrs. Clifford (Jeanette) Roger, Mrs. Donald (Thelma) Burkhart, all of Lakeland; and 1 brother, Ross Noble of Ann Arbor, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 1 daughter and 4 brothers.


DUTTON. Died 1897. Mrs Elizabeth Dutton, 64, died at her home on E. Carpenter St. Dr Ira Tyson and Rev. Calloway Nash officiated. Service from Methodist Episcopal Church.


DUTTON. Died 03-1884. Rev F. B. Dutton, 83, died at his home. Funeral from ME church Rev. Vantreese. Lovingly called “Father Dutton”. His wife Catherine died the following Monday. When he died his wife had said, “we have never been separated a week at one time since we were married and I do not believe we will be now.” She was 79 and they had been married in 1821. They were parents of 13 children. Surviving are 30 grandchildren and 32 g-grandchildren. He was an abolitionist and was with the first temperance movement. To Jersey County 1863.


DUTTON. Died 1893. Frank Dutton, 70, had lived here since 1861. Methodist Episcopal church.


DUTTON. Died 09-1908. Mrs Lucy Dutton, 69, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Mackel of St. Louis. Funeral from ME church in Jerseyville, Rev. J. H. Jones officiating.


DWYER. Died 02-07-1988. Bessie Elizabeth Dwyer, 79, died Saturday July 2, 1988, at Jersey Community hospital. Born in Alton, she was a daughter of the late Isiah & Margaret (Lee) Wells. She formerly worked at International Shoe Company in Jerseyville and married Melvin Edward Dwyer November 30, 1928, in Jerseyville. He died December 22, 1981. Surviving are 2 sons, Roger D. Dwyer of Dow and Clifton Dwyer of Jerseyville; 3 Daughters, Juianita Hubert of Jerseyville, Kathleen Settles of Jacksonville and Rosella Woolsey of Fieldon; 22 grandchildren; 3 g-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Goldie Quinn of Jerseyville. She was preceded in death by 1 son, Nathan; 1 daughter, Charlene; and 1 brother, John Wells. Visitation and services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Robert McAdams officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to those of one’s choice.


DWYER. Died 24-02-1954. Kate Dwyer, 83 years, 9 months, 7 days, was the widow of Dan Dwyer. Mrs Dwyer died Wednesday afternoon, February 24, at St. Anthony Infirmary in Alton where she had been moved for treatment earlier in the week. The former resident of St. Louis, had come to Jerseyville in 1946 to make her home with her brother, Edward Connors. The deceased was a daughter of the late Michael O. & Julia (Grimes) Connor and was born in Jersey County, May 17, 1870. In addition to her brother, Mrs. Dwyer is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. Nell O’Toole of Alton and Mrs. Julia Maher of Denver, Colorado. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services were held at St. Francis Xavier church, Saturday February 27. Requiem mass was celebrated by Father John J. Clancy and interment was in St. Francis cemetery.


DWYER. Died 20-10-1978. Mrs Lucretia W. Dwyer, 76, of White Hall died October 20 at Boyd Memorial hospital in Carrollton. She was born July 19, 1902 in Woodville, a daughter of the late Harvey & Della (Cummings) Brown. She is survived by 1 son, Carl C. Dwyer of Alton. Her husband, Daniel P. Dwyer, died March 31, 1969. Services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville with burial in Oak Grove cemetery.


DWYER. Died 22-12-1981. Melvin Edward Dwyer, 79, of Jerseyville died December 22 at Jersey Community hospital. Services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Dwyer was retired from Olin Corporation. Rev. James Maxwell officiated with interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Born in Greene County, he married Bessie E. Wells who survives. Also surviving are 3 Daughters, Juanita Hubert of Jerseyville, Kathleen Settles of Jacksonville and Rosella Woolsey of Hardin; 2 sons, Roger of Dow and Clifton of Jerseyville; and 1 brother, Howard, also of Jerseyville.


DYER. Died 19-02-1906. Mrs Permelia Dyer, 86, died at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. M. V. Corzine, in Morris, Illinois, February 19. Funeral from the home of Harvey Mason in Jerseyville. Rev. Nash and Rev. S. Catt officiated.


DYMOND. Mrs Mary Dymond 87, died at the home of her son, John Dymond, at East Newbern. Funeral at home in Newbern, then to Presbyterian church. Rev. Robert Smith officiating.
