YATES. Doris Jean Yates, 46, died at 7:15 am Thursday, January 28, 1988, at St. Joseph hospital in Alton, after a lengthy illness. Born in St. Louis, she was the daughter of George & Helen (Kapp) Wuebbles (Wuebbels?) Of Beckemeyer. She was a waitress for 5 years at 518 South restaurant in Jerseyville. On October 23, 1975, she married Olen Yates in Brighton, and he survives. In addition to her parents and husband, surviving are 3 sons, John Yates of Bethalto, Tim Huggins of Wood River and Thomas Yates at home; 4 Daughters, Kathy Fields of Alton, Margaret Beers and Tammy Yates, both of Hartford, and Mary Yates at home; 9 grandchildren; 4 sisters, Elaine Sewell of Elsah, Mary Deithers of Carlyle, Phyllis Huelsmann of Breese and Denise Rakers of Beckemeyer; and 6 brothers, Gary and Phillip Wuebbels, both of Beckemeyer, Donnie Wuebbels of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Danny Wuebbels of Carlyle, Duane Wuebbels of Breese and Eddie Wuebbels of New Baden. Visitation will be 5-9 pm today at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. At Grafton Methodist church, visitation continues from 9 am Saturday until time of service at 10 am. Rev. Tommy Brewer will officiate. Burial will be in Scenic Hill cemetery in Grafton. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or to the church where Mrs. Yates was a member.
YENNY. Mrs. Mary Yenny, formerly of Grafton died November 10, 1959 in St. Louis. Friends received word of the death and funeral of the former Rosa McReynolds. Funeral rites were conducted November 13, from Kriegshauser’s Funeral Home and interment was in Sunset cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Charles, 1 son, Albert, and 3 sisters, Viola Visel, Margaret Brower and Josephine Brower.
YOCOM. Austin Yocom, 67, of Mt. Pulaski, a former resident of Jerseyville, died at 9:30 pm at Decatur-Macon County Hospital in Decatur. Committal services are expected to be held around 2 pm Thursday afternoon at St. Francis com, Jerseyville. Requiem mass for Mr. Yocom is to be celebrated at 10 am Thursday at Thomas Aquinas Church in Mt. Pulaski with Father Edward M. Krewer officiating. The funeral cortege will leave immediately after the service for the burial here. Mr Yocom, a son of Clyde H. Yocom of Jerseyville and the late Mary (Roberts) Yocom, was born in Logan County in 1901. The family came to Jersey County in 1903. Mr Yocom was educated in Jerseyville schools and made his home here for a number of years before moving to Mt. Pulaski 19 years ago. He was a salesman for a tool and die company prior to his illness which has extended over several months. Surviving him are his wife Ethel (Schell) Yocom; 1 daughter, Marilyn, and 1 son, Edward, of Mt. Pulaski; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. C. H. Yocom of Jerseyville; 1 sister, Mrs. Henry (Thema) Kautz of Mt. Pulaski, and 1 brother, Robert Yocom of Fidelity.
YOCOM. Esther E. Yocom, 71, died at 12:19 am today, January 5, 1989, at Jersey Community hospital, Jerseyville. She was born in Jersey County, daughter of the Late Heber & Mabel E. (Ayres) Wade. On August 8, 1948, in Jerseyville, she married Truman R. Yocom, and he survives. Also surviving are her son, Jersey County Sheriff Frank Yocom of Jerseyville; 2 grandchildren; 3 g-grandchildren; 9 sisters, Florence Butler, Mary Stillar and Ruth Cook, all of Jerseyville, Irene Sample of Brighton, Virginia Wendt of McComb, Helen Sunn of St. Louis, Laura Jamieson of Quincy, Mabel Joyce Plume of Wilmington and Ida Mae Anderson of Kane; and 2 brothers, Charles Wade of Jerseyville and Robert Wade of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Preceding her in death were 1 son Randall Yocom; and 3 brothers, Everett, Marion Lee and James Wade. Visitation is 4-9 pm Friday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The Order of Eastern Star, Jerseyville Lodge 656, will conduct rites at 7 pm. Funeral services are at 10:30 am Saturday at the Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Epperly officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to American Diabetes Foundation or First Baptist church of Jerseyville, where Mrs. Yocom had been a member.
YOCOM. Died 02-02-1927. George W. C. Yocom, 79 years, 2 months, died at his home on West Arch St. Jerseyville, Wednesday February 2, at 2:30 am. The deceased was born in Williamsville, Sangamon County, Illinois, on December 2, 1847, the son of Stephen & Martha (Concil) Yocom. His survivors are: his wife, Laura A. Yocom, 2 sons, Clyde H. Yocom of Fidelity and Claude M. Yocom of Jerseyville and 1 daughter, Mrs. Ross Chappell of this city. Funeral services will be held from the Methodist Episcopal church on February 4, at 2 pm, Rev. O. B. Kinsey officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove mausoleum.
YOCOM. Mrs. Grace W. Yocom, 80 years and 13 days, widow of Claude M. Yocom, died Monday, April 29, 1968, 5:45 am, at Jersey Community hospital where she had been a patient for 9 days. The resident of 607 W. Mulberry, Jerseyville had been in ill for some time. Rev. Carlton Christenson officiated at the final rites held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 pm at First Baptist church of which she was a member. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Visitation hours were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Mrs. Yocom was the daughter of the late Thomas C. H. & Lucy (Mains) Wylder, early residents of Jersey County, and was born in Jersey County on April 16, 1886. Mrs. Yocom was a charter member of the Jersey County Home Bureau which is now the Jersey County Homemakers Extension Association, and member of the Jersey Community Hospital Auxiliary, Daughters of Union Veterans, and Jerseyville Woman’s Club. Surviving Mrs. Yocom are 1 daughter, Mrs. Robert E. (Marcella) McPheron of River Edge, New Jersey; 2 sons, Truman R. and Stuart e. Yocom of Jerseyville, 4 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 2 g-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Mrs. Matt (Elizabeth) Heneghan of Decatur and Miss Isabell Wylder of Clayton, Missouri, and 1 Brother, Robert M. Wylder of Morrison. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude M. Yocom whose death occurred in 1950, and 1 grandson, R. Randall Yocom, Jr., who died in 1956.
YOCOM. Died 15-05-1942. Laura Alice Yocom, 91 years, 8 months, 3 days, one of Jerseyville’s oldest residents, died at 10:50 am Friday, may 15, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. & Mrs. A. R. Chappell in this city, where she has resided for the past 15 years. The deceased was the daughter of the late Hiram & Mary (Merriman) Young, and was born in Williamsville, September 12, 1850. On July 10, 1873, she was united in marriage with George W. C. Yocom, a Sangamon County farmer. The couple established their home on a farm, and later moved to Logan County, and in 1903 they established their home in Jersey County. Mr Yocom died February 2, 1927. Mrs. Yocom is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. Chappell; 2 sons, Clyde H. Yocom of Fidelity and Claude M. Yocom of Jerseyville; 7 grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren and 1 sister, Mrs. Mary A. Jones of Neosho, Missouri. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church, Sunday, may 17, at 2:30. Rev. John A. Lampe officiated and entombment was in Oak Grove mausoleum.
YOCOM. Died 05-1973. Mrs. Lela B. Yocom of 521 West Mulberry St., Jerseyville, died at 4:30 am Tuesday at Boyd Memorial hospital in Carrollton where she had been moved Monday afternoon. Prior to that she had been residing at Garnet Chateau and earlier was a patient at Jersey Community hospital. Funeral services for Mrs. Yocom, a former resident of the Fidelity community, will be held at 2 pm Thursday afternoon at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Earl Clagg will officiate and burial will be in – incomplete.
YOCOM. Died 1905. Mary Yocom, 26, wife of Clyde Yocom died at their home in Jerseyville. She was the daughter of John M. & Hannah Roberts, born in Logan County, Illinois, May 10, 1879. She married C. H. Yocom on February 8, 1899. They lived 3 miles north of Latham, Illinois, and in February 1903 they moved to Jerseyville, then to Jonesboro, Arkansas; finally returning to Jerseyville. A devoted mother and homemaker she leaves her husband Clyde, 1 son, Austin R. and 1 girl, Thema. Also surviving are her mother, 4 sisters, and 2 brothers. The remains were taken to Mt. Pulaski, Illinois, her former home and burial took place there.
YOCOM. Died 16-03-1975. Mrs. Rebecca Yocom, 35, of 510 W. Exchange St. Jerseyville died at 6 pm on March 16 at Barnes hospital, St. Louis, following an extended illness. The funeral was conducted Tuesday afternoon, March 18, at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Everett chambers officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. She was born October 30, 1939 in Evansville, in, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Hubert Sutton, now of Fairfield. Mrs. Yocom was a member of the West Elementary School faculty. She is survived by her husband, Frank Yocom, Jersey County Sheriff; 2 daughters, Jana Lynn and Pamela Sue; her parents; and 1 brother, Tom Sutton of Carmi. Memorials may be given to Cancer Society.
YOCOM. Died 11-12-1942. Robert L. Yocom, 73, died at 7:15 am, December 11, 1986, at Jersey Care Center in Jerseyville. He retired from farming in 1976, and was born in Jefferson City, Missouri, son of the late Clyde and Lela (Dabbs) Yocom. He married Thaus (Bates) Yocom on October 3, 1942, in Jerseyville, and she survives. Also surviving are 1 niece, 1 nephew, and cousins. Visitation will be from 3-9 pm Friday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. King Solomon Lodge No. 97 AF & AM will conduct Masonic rites at 7:30 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Saturday at the Funeral Home with Rev. Peter Ely officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to Kane Baptist church where he had been a member.
YOCOM. Died 26-10-1985. Stuart E. Yocom, 68, 1009 N. Warren, Jerseyville died at 9:15 pm October 26 at Jersey Community hospital. Born March 23, 1916, a son of the late Claude M. & Grace Wylder Yocom and was a farmer and a WW II veteran. On June 18, 1956, he married the former Alta Cummings in Hardin who survives. Also surviving are 1 Daughter, Carol Yocom of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 3 son, Larry Yocom of Edgerton, Kansas, Charles E. Trask of Tampa, Florida, and Herbie Watson of Jerseyville; 4 grandchildren; 1 sister, Marcella McPheron of Bergenfield, New Jersey; and 1 brother Truman R. of Jerseyville. Services were conducted Monday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Simon A. Simon officiated; with graveside rites at Oak Grove cemetery by the Jerseyville American Legion Post. Memorials may be given to First United Presbyterian church of Jerseyville where he was a member.
YOCOM. Truman Randall “Randy” Yocom, 16, student at Jersey Community high school, received fatal injuries in a motorcycle-truck collision north of Jerseyville at 6:25 pm Monday, June 11, 1956. The youth was brought to Jersey Community hospital in the Jacoby ambulance for emergency treatment, and his death occurred at 9:50, 5 miles south of Jerseyville as he was being moved by ambulance to St. Luke hospital in St. Louis. An inquest will be held later by coroner Rodney Jacoby. The truck involved in the accident was driven by James V. Hooper, both vehicles were traveling north and Hooper had signaled that he was turning into the alfalfa field just south of the former MacKelden home. Yocom was thrown from the cycle when it struck the front wheels of the truck. Randy was born in Jerseyville, May 28, 1940, a son of Truman R. & Vera F. (Sayer) Yocom. He marked his 16th birthday and would have been a junior student at Jersey Community high school next year. The boy had been active in 4-H work in the county, was a member of the Jerseyville Baptist church, and the Jerseyville Chapter, Order of Demolay. In addition to his parents, Randy is survived by 1 brother, Frank Yocom of Jerseyville; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Robert Downey of Jerseyville; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Grace Yocom of Jerseyville, and his maternal g-grandmother, Mrs. Ella Cray of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by 1 brother and 1 sister.
YOTTER. Died 16-02-1982. Gordon “Bud” Yotter, 57, of Rural Route 1 Fieldon died at 6:03 am February 16 at Jersey Community hospital. Born April 20, 1024 in Medora, he was a son of the late Forrest & Naomi (Shea) Yotter and was a heavy equipment operator. Services were held Friday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with Rev. Roger Czaia officiating. Burial was in Czaia cemetery near Nutwood. His survivors include: 8 sons, James of Alton, John, Paul and Patrick, Cottage Hills, Kevin, Fairbanks, Alaska, Michael of Godfrey, Robert Floyd, Bethalto, Keith of Jerseyville; Joyce Wells, Wood River, Mary Yotter, Cottage Hills, Yvonne, Vickie, Melissa, Rhonda and Lynda, all of Jerseyville; 9 grandchildren and 1 sister, Marian Bartholomew of Fieldon. Memorials may be given to the heart fund.
YOUNG. Died 10-06-1984. Blanche Young, 87, died at 6:15 am on June 10 at her residence in Jerseyville. She was born February 7, 1897 in Jersey County, daughter of Charles & Elizabeth (Raworth) Hutchinson. She is survived by 7 daughters, Bernice Hazelwood and Shirley Carter of Jerseyville, Alice Baker, Alton, Judy Saragusa, Wood River, Sylvia Carter, Mt. Olive, Lois Fitzgibbons of Jerseyville, Eileen McKelvey, Cahokia, 30 grandchildren and 28 g-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter A. Young, who died in September, 1964; 1 daughter and 2 sons. The funeral was conducted Tuesday afternoon at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville by Rev. R. E. George with burial in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to charity of one’s choice.
YOUNG. Died 08-11-1981. Celia Mae Young, died at Barnes hospital in St. Louis at 3 pm November 8. Born in Jerseyville, she was a daughter of the late Steve & Eva (Hutchens) Woolsey. He survivors are her husband, Carl Young whom she married October 29, 1949 in Carlinville; 3 sons, Leo Gardner of Godfrey, Raymond Gardner, Brighton and Joseph of East Alton; 2 daughters, Peggy Ballard, Wood River and Dixie Meyer, Delhi; 14 grandchildren and 10 g-grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 brothers, Lester Woolsey and Amos Woolsey of Jerseyville; 2 sisters, Alice Balcom, Jerseyville, and Juanita Beckerman, St. Louis. She was preceded in death by a brother, Steven Philip Woolsey, and 1 sister, Mildred Woolsey. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Ron Woodrun officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Visitation was held from 4-9 Tuesday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the heart fund.
YOUNG. Edgar Stephen Young, 72, died Friday, August 31, 1990, in Modesto, California. The former Jerseyville resident was born in Boise City, Oklahoma, he was the son of Mary (Crane) Young of Jerseyville and the late Stephen Young. Surviving are 1 Daughter, Darlene Shores of Modesto, California; 1 son, Dennis Young of Modesto; 2 grandsons; 5 sisters, Maxine Sweetin of Roodhouse, Louise Thaxton of Carrollton, Doris Wedding of Dow, Frances Summers and Margaret Tucker, both of Jerseyville; and 4 brothers, Roy Young of Kane, Elknah Young of Jerseyville, and Duane and Donald Young, both of White Hall. A brother, Melvin Young, preceded him in death. Grave side services are at 9:30 am Wednesday at Escalon Cemetery in Ripon. Decon Funeral Home of Ripon is in charge of arrangements.
YOUNG. Elizabeth F. “Betty” Young, 76, of Mascoutah, died Sunday, May 15, 1988, at St. Elizabeth hospital in Belleville. The former area resident was a school teacher for 28 years and retired in 1974. She was born in Jersey County, daughter of the late Edward & Frances (Maxeimer) Norton. On June 22, 1936, in Brighton, she married Fred N. Young. He survives. Also surviving, are 1 sister, Edith (Norton) Brands of Grafton; and 1 Brother, Leland Norton of Sun City, Arizona. Visitation will be at 4 pm today at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am Wednesday at Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah. Burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery in Alton. Memorials may be given to may be given to the Holy Childhood Memorial Improvement Fund.
YOUNG. Died 25-11-1959. Estel Walter Young, 44 years, 6 months, 7 days, died at 7:13 pm wed, at his home 417 Franklin Ave., Jerseyville. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Harry Frazer officiated at the services and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr Young, a son of Mr. & Mrs. Walter A. Young of Jerseyville, was born in Jersey County, May 18, 1915. He was a veteran of WW II, was employed as a caterpillar operator by Gorman Brothers in Jerseyville. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the Jerseyville Elks Lodge. Surviving the decedent are his wife, Alberta (Cummings) Young; 1 son, Estel Young Jr., and 2 daughters, Linda Lou and Connie Sue, of Jerseyville; his parents; 1 brother, Kenneth Laverne Young of Dow, and 8 sisters, Mrs. Eileen Luther of St. Louis, Mrs. Marie Cumby of Pittsfield, Mrs. Alice Baker of Alton, Mrs. Bernice Hazelwood, Mrs. Lois Fitzgibbons, Mrs. Shirley Carter, Mrs. Sylvia Carter, and Miss Judy Young of Jerseyville.
YOUNG. Died 03-06-1974. Mrs. Grace Eldora Young, 76, of 409 Barr Ave., Jerseyville will be held at 1:30 pm this afternoon, June 6, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Her death occurred on June 3 at Alton Memorial hospital. Rev. James Boyer of Kane will officiate and interment will be in Kane cemetery. She was born November 18, 1897 in Carrollton, a daughter of Theodore Hunt & Mary Combrink. She was employed as an inker at the former International Shoe Company in Jerseyville. Mrs. Young was a member of First Christian church, Women’s Relief Corps and Senior Citizens. Her survivors are 3 Son, Theodore H. Young of Rosewood Heights, Robert S. Young of Jerseyville and Richard W. Young of Brighton; 2 daughters, Mrs. John (Eldora) Stiles and Mrs. Lamar (Eura) Weaver of Jerseyville; 15 grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren; her sisters, Mrs. Stella Young of Carrollton and Mrs. Tippie Emmons of Nashville; and 1 half-sister, Mrs. Nellie Felter of Jerseyville. Her husband, Peter R. Young, and parents preceded her in death. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
YOUNG. James M. Young, 64, died December 7, 1892. Mr Young was born in Rutherford County, North Carolina December 16, 1828. In 1835 he came with his parents to Illinois; first to McDonough County, then to Wisconsin and worked in the lead mines. He then returned to Jersey County, engaging in boating and rafting of the Illinois river. Oct 15, 1851 he married Lucetta (Nott) Young of this county. In 1868 he became Postmaster of Fieldon and in 1871 was elected Assessor and Treasurer of Jersey County. In 1872 they came to Jerseyville. In 1880 he rented the National Hotel and was in charge for 2 years. Surviving are 5 of 7 children and Mrs. Young died in 1885, and in 1887 he married a Mrs. Benson, who survives. YOUNG. Died 10-05-1983. Kenneth L. Young, 56, Rural Route 2, Godfrey, died at 12:30 pm May 10 at Christian Northwest Hospital, in Florissant, Missouri. He was born September 25, 1926, in Jersey County, the son of Blanche (Hutchinson) Young of Jerseyville and the late Walter A. Young. He married Dorothy Groves in 1948 in Jerseyville. Young retired from Laclede Steel in 1975. He is survived by his wife, mother 2 sons, Kenneth Young, Jr. of Godfrey and Kevin at home; 4 daughters, Patricia Young, and Carol McCoy of Grafton, Karen Freeman of Jerseyville and Barbara Young of Dow; and 5 grandchildren. Also surviving are 8 Sisters, Bernice Hazelwood, Shirley Carter and Lois Fitzgibbons, all of Jerseyville, Alice Baker of Alton, Marie Cumby of Jacksonville, Judy Saragosa of Wood River, Sylvia Carter of Mt. Olive and Eileen McKelvey of Cahokia. He was preceded in death by his father and 1 brother. Funeral services were held at 10 am May 14 at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. William Turner of Assembly of God church, Newbern, officiated, with burial in Valhalla Memorial Park. Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association and the American Heart Association.

Young, 63, of 449 Hi-View, Jerseyville, formerly of Rural Route 1, Jerseyville, died at 2:39 pm March 11 at Normandy Osteopathic hospital in St. Louis. She was born in Jersey County to Anna (Kaup) Breitwiser, who survives and the late Ira Breitweiser. Funeral mass was held Wednesday am at St. Francis Xavier church with Father Patrick Morrow officiating. Burial was in St. Francis cemetery. Mrs. Young was a member of St. Francis church and past co-chairperson of the Jersey County Farm Bureau Women’s Comm. Survivors are her husband, Robert S. Young; 1 son, David Young of Jerseyville; 1 Daughter, Roberta Young of Versailles; mother; sister, Doris Kadell of Jerseyville and 2 grandchildren. The rosary was recited at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville Tuesday evening. Memorials may be given to the Diabetes Association and St. Francis building fund.
YOUNG. Died 1970. Michael Jon Young, 16, son of Mr. & Mrs. Robert J. Young of Rural Route 1, Shipman, who until 2 years ago made their home in Jerseyville, was pronounced dead on arrival at 2:25 Saturday pm at St. Joseph hospital in Alton. Young Michael had incurred fatal injuries in a one-car auto accident a quarter of a mile north of Brighton as he was enroute home. The car left the highway and struck a culvert. Visitation was held at the Warner Funeral Home in Brighton Monday afternoon and evening where Father William Houran, pastor of St. Alphonsus church in Brighton, conducted a prayer service at 8 pm. The funeral liturgy and holy communion service was at 10:30 am Tuesday at St. Alphonsus Church with Father Houran celebrant. Burial was in the Brighton cemetery. Michael was the second oldest son of Robert J. and Barbara (Schelm) Young. He was born in Alton, December 27, 1954. Most of his youth was spent in Jerseyville where he was graduated from Holy Ghost parochial school before the family moved away. This fall the youth would have been a junior student at Southwestern high school in Unit 9 where he was on the Student Council. In addition to his parents, Michael is survived by 1 sister, Teresa Marie, and 5 brothers, Brady Charles, – incomplete.
YOUNG. Died 1969. Roger Young, 19, only son of Mrs. & Mrs. William C. Young of this city, died at 3 am Monday at Barnes hospital in St. Louis following heart surgery on Friday. He had entered the hospital April 23. Born in Alton July 23, 1949, Roger was a 1967 graduate of Jersey Community high school and was a student at Illinois Central Barber School in Decatur. Survivors in addition to his parents are 1 sister, Mrs. Ralph Dunham of Jerseyville; and his grandmothers, Mrs. Thelma Young of Jerseyville and Mrs. Amanda Carter of Nokomis. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 pm at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Carlton Christenson, pastor of First Baptist church officiated. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Visitation hours were held at Funeral Home.
YOUNG. Sylvia Mae Young, 84, died at 2:02 am April 3, 1987, at Jersey Community hospital in Jerseyville. She was born in Greene County, daughter of the Late Walter Gross & Serepta Jane (Whitlock) Long. On November 23, 1921, in Jerseyville she married Robert Lee Young. He died November 30, 1958. Mrs. Young had been a seamstress for Beverly Farm in Godfrey for 10 years. Surviving are 2 daughters, Lovetta “Sue” Kirchner of Jerseyville and Vera Tribble of Unionville, Missouri; 3 sons, Leancle Young and Oran “Buzz” Young, both of Kane, and Ernest “Jim” Young of Shipman; 13 grandchildren; 24 g-grandchildren; 4 Sisters, Goldie Moore of Jerseyville, and Alfreda Long, Vena Slater and Margaurite Jackson, all of Carrollton; and 2 brothers, Harry and Wayne Long both of Carrollton. Visitation is scheduled 4-9 pm Sunday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Order of Eastern Star services will be at 7 pm. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Monday at the Funeral Home with Rev. Peter Ely officiating. Burial will be in Kane cemetery. Memorials may be given to Kane Baptist church where she was a member.
YOUNG. Died 04-1984. Thelma Vivian Young, 82, died at 10:10 pm Sunday at Jersey Community hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Nashville, Illinois, daughter of the late Adolph & Edna (Poole) Eppel, she married William G. “Red” Young on March 10, 1922 in Belleville. He preceded her in death on January 8, 1967. Surviving are 3 sons, William C. “Bill” of Jerseyville, Robert “Bob” of Brighton and Charles of Jacksonville, Florida; 1 Daughter, Thelma “Sis” Arnold of Brighton; 10 grandchildren; 10 g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Izella Paddock of Godfrey; and 1 brother, Drury Eppel of Alton. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm Tuesday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville and will continue Wednesday until noon when they will move to First Assembly of God church for 1:30 pm services with Rev. Wayne Pendleton officiating. Burial will be in Kupper Alton cemetery. Memorials may be given to First Assembly of God church.
YOUNG. September 1964. Walter A. Young of Jerseyville, collapsed at a local restaurant and was pronounced dead on arrival at Jersey Community hospital, early Wednesday evening. He had reportedly suffered a heart condition for several years. Rev. Harry Frazer of the local Gospel Assembly church officiated during the services and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr Young is survived by his widow, Mrs. Blanche (Hutchinson) Young, of Jerseyville, 1 son, Kenneth, of Godfrey, and 8 daughters, Mrs. Eileen Lutker, East St. Louis, Mrs. Bernice Hazelwood, Mrs. Louis Fitzgibbons and Mrs. Shirley Carter of Jerseyville, Mrs. Marie Cumby, Pittsfield, Mrs. Sylvia Carter, Mt Olive, Mrs. Alice Baker and Mrs. Judy Berghoff, Alton; 1 sister, Mrs. Frank Schaaf, of Fieldon; 28 grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 1 son, Estel, 4 sisters and 2 brothers. The deceased was a retired farmer and for 8 years served as Road Commissioner for Otter creek township. He was a member of Fieldon Evangelical church.
YOUNG. Died 08-01-1967. William Godfrey Samuel (Red) Young, 66 years, 10 months, of Rural Route 1 Shipman, owner and operator of Young’s Quick Clean Center in Jerseyville, was pronounced dead on arrival at Jersey Community hospital Sunday evening at 7:15. Mr. Young had not been feeling well the past few weeks but his death was unexpected. Final rites were held Wednesday afternoon, January 11, at 1 pm at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Murriel Nance of Medora conducted the services and burial was in Upper Alton cemetery. Mr Young was a son of the late Charles Wm. Young, & Lucille A. (Godfrey) Young and was born in Alton on March 8, 1900. He was employed for more than 30 years as an automotive parts salesman for the Gould Auto Supply in Alton. Mr. Young was a member of Franklin Masonic Lodge 125, and Royal Arch Masons of Alton and was a past officer of the Shepherd White Shrine. Surviving Mr. Young are his wife, Mrs. Thelma (Eppel) Young of Shipman; 3 sons, William C. and Robert J. Young of Jerseyville, and Charles H. Young of Atlantic Beach, Florida; his mother, Mrs. Lucille A. Young of Vero Beach, Florida; 1 daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Thelma) Arnold of Brighton; 11 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Robert J. and James W. Young of Vero Beach, Florida; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Barnard (Helen) Hastings of Godfrey and Mrs. Lucille Cahill of Alton. His father and 1 brother preceded him in death.
