Had been deaf since six years of age. His mother who is 89 survives and a brother, Hiram. Funeral from home. Rev. Thero. Burial IOOF cemetery.

PREGLER. Jerseyville – Preston Peary Pregler, 68, formerly of Bixby, Okla., died at 8:09 am Thursday, April 2, 1992, at Alton Memorial hospital. Pregler retired in 1984 as a hot mill coiler at Olin Corp. of East Alton. He was a member of the First United Methodist church and Moose Lodge, both in Jerseyville, and was past president of the Tulsa County (Okla.) Farm Bureau. Born at Bixby 13 June 1923, he was a son of the late Walter and Leola (Harris) Pregler. Surviving are two sons, Phillip Pregler of Jerseyville and Peary Pregler of Dow; two daughters, Paula Thomas and Pattie McDanel, both of Jerseyville; six grandchildren; a great-grand daughter; two brothers, Curtiss Pregler of Kane and Lloyd Pregler of Bixby; and a Sister, Evelyn Cooper of Collinsville, Okla. Visitation is from 6 to 9 pm today at Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services are a 11 am Monday at Tulsa Whisenhunt Funeral Home in Tulsa, Okla. Burial is in Memorial cemetery in Tulsa.
PRESLEY. 1951: Grafton – Funeral rites for Henry Presley, 73, were held Tuesday afternoon, 25 November at 2 o’clock in the Assembly of God church with the Rev. Melvin McClain of Jerseyville officiating. Interment was in Meadow Branch cemetery. The pallbearers were nephews of the deceased and were Ferman, George, Tudor, Jack, Bruce and Frank Presley of Hardin. Mr. Presley, a native of Calhoun County, died suddenly at the Memorial hospital in Alton, Friday, 21 November at 9:20 am. where he had been a patient since Thursday. He is survived by three sons, Arthur and Hubert of Grafton and Pvt. Marion Presley of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; three daughters, Mrs. Clara Ennis and Mrs. Lula Lester of Grafton and Mrs. Linda Blasa of Fieldon; two brothers, Samuel of Hardin and George of Otterville; one half brother and one half sister, William Swan and Anna Neikirk of Jerseyville, and thirteen grandchildren.
PRESLEY. 25 June 1970: Final rites for Hubert Henry Presley, 50, of Grafton were held yesterday (wednesday) afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home where visitation hours were held after 7 pm Monday. His death occurred Sunday at Barnes hospital in St. Louis. He had been in ill health for some time. Rev. James Baker of Grafton officiated at the services and burial was in Meadow Branch cemetery, Grafton. Born 15 January 1920 in Greene County, he was the son of the late William Henry and Lula Flory Presley. He was a laborer at the Alton Brick Company. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Helen Smith Presley; six daughters, Mrs. Donald Brunstein of St. Charles, Missouri, Mrs. Larry Rusk, Clara Louis, Darlene, Marlene and Lori Ann Presley of Grafton; two sons, Hubert Virgil Presley of Joliet and Arthur Robert Presley, US Army; five grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Clara Talbert and Mrs. Howard Lester of Grafton and Mrs. Robert Blasa of Fieldon. His parents, two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
PRESLEY. Jerseyville – Helen Ileen Presley, 65, formerly of Grafton, died at 10:22 am Friday, 31 August 1990 at Jersey Community Hospital, Jerseyville. Born in Grafton, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Hattie (Cope) Smith. She married Hubert H. Presley on 5 July 1941 in St. Charles, MO, and he died on 21 June 1970. Surviving are two Sons, Hubert V. Presley of Elwood and Robert “Bob” Presley of Wood River; six daughters, Linda Reed of Elsah, Evelyn Rush of Grafton, Darlene Denniston of Anchorage, Alaska, Lorie Morgan of Pasadena, Texas, and Louise Farley and Marlene Weller, both of Jerseyville; 18 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, Bob Smith of California; and three Sisters, Lucille Means of Alton and Eva Wallace and Betty Herbert, Both of California. Preceding her in death were a granddaughter; and nine brothers and sisters. Visitation is from 5 to 9 pm today at Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services are at 10 am Monday. The Rev. James Baker will officiate. Burial is in Meadow Branch cemetery in rural Grafton. Memorials may be made to the National Leukemia Foundation.
PRESLEY. 6 July 1967: Arthur Mclean Presley, a retired fisherman of Grafton, died at three-thirty o’clock Fri. afternoon at his home. Though his health had been impaired his death was unexpected. Visitation hours were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home until eleven-thirty o’clock Monday morning when the body was moved to the Assembly of God church where services were held at one-thirty o’clock. Rev. William sipes officiated and burial was in Meadow Branch cemetery. Committal rites were under the auspices of Whalen Hill Post, American Legion, No. 648, Grafton. Mr. Presley was born in Calhoun County, 26 October 1912, a son of the late William Henry and Lula Frances Flory Presley. He was in military service during World War II. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Ruth Banfield Presley; three Daughters, Sheila, Kay, and Carol, and two sons, Michael and Bradley, all at home; three sisters, Mrs. Clara Talbert and Mrs. Lula Lester of Grafton and Mrs. Linda Blasa of Jerseyville; and one brother, Hubert Presley of Grafton. His parents, two sisters, Pearl and Amanda, and one brother, Marion, preceded him in death.
PRESLEY. Died 13-09-1973. 13 September 1973: Funeral rites for John S. “Tooter” Presley, 56, of Hardin will be held this afternoon (thursday) at 2:00 o’clock at Hanks Funeral Home with interment in Hardin cemetery. Mr. Presely had suffered a heart attack Monday and was brought to Jersey Community Hospital after emergency treatment at the Hardin Medical Center. He became ill in the ……rest of obit missing.
PRESSLEY. 23 May 1974: Everett Leroy Pressley, 67, of 702 E. prairie st, Jerseyville was found dead at 4:30 pm on 16 May at his clubhouse west of Otterville by Morris Dabbs. A laborer, he was born 28 August 1906 in Calhoun County, a son of George and Clara McDonald Pressley. He is survived by his wife, Mary Maltimore Pressley; two sons, Roy of Alexis and Gary, who is serving in the Navy at Kingsville, Tex., two daughters, Josephine and Marilyn Pressley of Jerseyville; one grandchild; stepsons, Earl Maltimore of Alton, Jim Snider and Kenneth Snider of Jerseyville, and a brother, George, of Jerseyville. Final services were conducted Saturday, 18 May from Jacoby Funeral Home with the Rev. Vale Walkington officiating. Interment was in the Fieldon cemetery.
PRESSLEY. 31 December 1986: Former Jerseyville Resident Gary Leroy Pressley, 32, of Kingsville, Texas, died Sunday 28 December 1986. He was the son of Mary Foster (Maltimore) Pressley of Jerseyville and the late Everett Pressley. He was employed as a mechanic with Exxon of Kingsville. Survivors include his mother; his wife, the former Christina Clauson; three Sons, Robert and Daniel Pressley, both of Torrington, Conn., and Bryan Pressley of Kingsville; a daughter, Michelle Lee Pressley of Kingsville; four half brothers, Earl Maltimore and James Snider, both of Jerseyville; Roy Pressley of Monmount and Kenneth Snider of South Roxana; and two sisters, Josephine Weller and Marilyn Smith, both of Jerseyville. Visitation will be all day today and Thursday at Turcotte Mortuary in Kingsville. Services will be at the Funeral Home at 10 am Friday with Duane Mayberry officiating. Burial will be at Chamberlain cemetery in Kingsville. Autopsy results are pending.
PRICE. 20 August 1979: Services for Ollie C. Price, 71, of Alton were conducted Monday at Hanks Funeral Home in Hardin with burial in the Hardin cemetery. He died 10 August at Alton Memorial hospital. Born 11 July 1908 in Missouri, he was the son of Howard and Anna Sloan Price. He is survived by five daughters, Marcella Branham and Evelyn Morris of Delhi; Janet Price and Sharon Elmore of Sterling, Ruth Price of Jerseyville; ten sons, Carl of Arizona, Leon, Brighton, David, Dow, and Frank, Mike, Larry , Jerry, Bruce, Mark and Ollie Jr. of Jerseyville; 28 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Price and Margaret Johnson.
PRICE. undated: Services for Opal L. Price, 71, of Sorenta were conducted Saturday morning at Quinn Funeral Home in Alton with burial in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. She died at 1:20 pm 21 May at a Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Born in Jersey County, a daughter of the late William H. and Sophia Osburn, she was employed as a housekeeper at the First National Bank of Alton for 20 years, retiring in 1972. Her survivors are a daughter, Lavina Jones of Granite City; two sons, David L. of Sorento with whom she had resided and Howard L. of Dow; 10 grandchildren; a brother, William E. Osburn of Fieldon; and four sisters, Mabel Brown of Grafton, Delilah Hoffman of Roxana, Mary Buck of Godfrey and Sophia Narup of Madison. The Arthritis Foundation has been named as a memorial.
PRICE. Jerseyville – Russell Price, 82, died at 11:16 am Sunday, 20 May 1990 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. He was a retired violin craftsman and a US Army World War II veteran. Born in Otterville, he was the son of the late George and Josephine (Wahle) Price. Cousins survive. Visitation is from 5 to 9 pm Tuesday with services 1:30 pm Wednesday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The Rev. Walter C. Burk will officiate. Burial is in Oak Grove cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the restoration of the Otterville school.
PRICE. Died 22-05-1980. Kevin T. Price, 16 of Route 1, Dow died at 11:15 am 22 May at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, Creve Coeur, Missouri of injuries suffered in an auto accident 14 May. According to a report by state trooper, Donald Wilson, the accident occurred at 4:45 pm 14 May on route 109 just south of the Otterville McClusky road. Price was southbound rounding the curve and lost control, crossed the line and struck a Gorman Brothers Ready-mix cement mixer driven by Ed Fitzgibbons, 60, of Jerseyville. Fitzgibbons was not injured. Price was taken to Memorial hospital in Alton and later transferred to St. John’s Mercy. The funeral of Kevin T. Price was held Tuesday Morning at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Todd Taylor officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. He was born in Alton 5 July 1964, a son of Richard T. and E. Jill Kling Price, and was a junior student at Jersey Community High school. His survivors are his parents, two brothers, Chad and Eric, at home; Grandparents, Betty Price of Rural Dow and Paul and Phyllis Gresham of Elsah; and great Grandparents, Viola Frost of Scottsville, KY, and Matilda Kling of Minneapolis, Minn. The Men’s Chorus or the Varsity Wrestling Team of Jersey Community High school have been named as memorials.
PRICE. 28 April 1966: George Lewis Price of Dow, a retired Jersey County farmer, died Sunday afternoon, 24 April at 3:15 o’clock at Garnet’s Nursing Home where he had resided for twenty-eight days. Visitation hours were at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home where final rites were conducted Tuesday afternoon, April 26, at one o’clock by Rev. John O’Dell pastor of the Bethel Methodist church. Interment was in the Otterville cemetery. Mr. Price was a son of the late Richard and Mary E. Murphy Price, and was born in Jersey County on 4 July 1887. His age at the time of death was 78 years, 9 months and 20 days. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Josephine Wahle Price of Dow, one son, Russell Price of Grafton, and two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Landon of Dow and Blanche Cope of Otterville.
PRICE. 8 August 1987: Eric Lynn Price, 15, Dow, was pronounced dead at 1:35 pm 19 July at his home, the victim of a drowning. Eric was born 5 April 1972 in Alton, the son of Richard T. and E. Jill Kling Price. He was a sophomore at Jersey Community High school where he was a member of the wrestling team. He was a member of the Mormon church in Godfrey. He is survived by his parents, Richard and Jill Price of Dow; a brother, Chad Price, at home, his paternal grandmother, Betty Price of Dow, and maternal grandmother, Phyllis Gresham of Dow. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kevin. Funeral services were held at 10 am 22 July at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home with Bishop Morensen officiating. Burial was at Oak Grove cemetery. The Jersey Community High School Wrestling Team has been named as theMemorial.
PRICE. 4 June 1979: Services for Ralph “Bud” Price, 54, of R. 1., Dow were held Sunday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home with Joe Spicer officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. He died at 7:35 am 31 May at Jersey Community Hospital. He was born 19 July 1924 in Elsah township a son of Marion R. and Mae Slaten Price and was a highway worker for the State of Illinois. His survivors are his wife, Lola Harrison Price whom he married 17 January 1969; two sons, Marion Price of Delhi and Tracy, at home, three Daughters, Helen Marie Price of Jerseyville, Dottie Mae Smith of Hollywood, Calif., and Tammy Price at home; a brother, and one sister, Richard Price of Dow and Dorothy Coffman of Dallas, Tex; four grandchildren. His parent, one brother and two sisters preceded him in death. The American Cancer Society has been named as a memorial.
PRICE. Died 22-01-1958. 24 January 1958: Marion Richard Price of Dow, former Elsah Township Supervisor on the Jersey County Governing Board, collapsed at his home early Tuesday afternoon and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Jersey Community Hospital where he was rushed in the Jacoby ambulance. He had been in ill health for some time and had been hospitalized recently. Friends may call at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home after seven o’clock Thursday evening. Funeral services have been set for one-thirty o’clock Saturday afternoon, 26 July at the Funeral Home with the Rev. L. W. Lyell of Dow officiating. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park. Mr. Price was born in Jersey County, 26 March 1878 a son of the late Richard and Mary Murphy Price, and his age at the time of death was eighty years, three months and twenty-six days. In addition to his farming interests Mr. Price served from 1931 to 1935 as Supervisor. He had been retired for some time. Surviving the decedent are two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Mildred) Vinson of Dow and Mrs. Mason (Dorothy) Gowins of Niland, Calif., three sons, Elmer Price of US Navy stationed at New Orleans, LA, Richard H. and Ralph E. Price of Dow, seventeen grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Price of Lucrene, MO, and George Price of Otterville; and two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Landon of Dow and Mrs. Blanche Cope of Otterville.
PRICE. 10 January 1970: Final rites for Mrs. Edna Caroline Price, a former resident of Jerseyville, were held at Gubser Funeral Home Sun. afternoon at two o’clock with the Rev. Louis Purcell, pastor of the first Methodist church, officiating. Interment was in Falkner cemetery. Visitation was held at the Funeral Home. Mrs. Price, widow of John Price, was pronounced dead on arrival at Christian Welfare hospital in east St. Louis Wednesday afternoon, 23 September at 3:15 pm. She had been residing in East St. Louis in recent years. She was a daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude Falkner Shoemaker and was born in Louisiana, Missouri 13 July 1901. Mrs. Price was a former employee of the International Shoe Company in Jerseyville. Surviving her are one daughter, Mrs. Edna Mae Darwin of East St. Louis, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Burial in Noble cemetery. Leaves five children, Mrs. Mayme Landon, Fred Price, Mrs. Blanch Cope, George Price of Otterville and Marion Price of Dow.
PRICE. Services for Julian Powell Price, 59, of 602 Garfield St., Greenfield, were conducted Tuesday at Shields Memorial Home in Greenfield with burial in the Oak Wood cemetery there. He died at 6:40 am 30 January at St. Luke’s hospital west in Chesterfield, Missouri. The World War II veteran was a son of Florence Powell Price of Jerseyville and the late Leo K. Price. He is also survived by a sister, Edna Adkisson of Chesterfield, Missouri and a brother, Robert, of New York City.
PRICE. 1981: Services for Clifford Maurice Price, 87, of 707 Elm, Jerseyville, were conducted 10 September at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home by the Rev. V. Clay Noah, Jr. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. He died at 2:35 pm 8 September at Garnet’s Chateau. He was born 20 February 1894 in Jerseyville, a son of John and Hannah Salters Price and was retired from Olin Corp., where he was a pipefitter. His wife, the former Leona Blay, preceded him in death. His survivors are a nephew, William Wade of Jerseyville; grandson, Robert Vanausdoll of Jerseyville; two great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. The American Cancer Society has been named as a memorial.
PRICE. 19 October 1972: Final services for Mrs. Josephine Price, 88, of Route 1, Grafton, were held yesterday (wednesday) afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. Vale Walkington officiating. Her death occurred 15 October at her home in Otter Creek township. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. She was born 4 May 1884 in Jersey County the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wahle. Her husband was the late George Price. She is survived by one son, Russell Price of Grafton; one………rest of obit missing.

PRICE. 16 October 1975: Final rites for Burl Edwin Price, 52, of Decatur were held on 13 October at the Dawson-Wikoff Funeral Home in Decatur. Interment was in the Glenwood cemetery in Shelbyville. His death occurred at 8:30 pm on 9 October at the Decatur Memorial hospital. Price was a minister of the Church of Christ. He ministered in Jerseyville from 1965-1968 and had served in Pana and Morton, Klamath Falls, Ore. and his last ministry, Morningside Chapel, Church of Christ, Decatur. His survivors include his widow, Hilda Martin Price; three daughters, Mrs. James (Wyoma) Stewart and Mrs. Dwayn (Zola) Griffith of Creve Coeur, and Mrs. James (Ruth) Plue of East Peoria; two grandchildren; and his parents, who reside in Pana. The Morningside Chapel, Church of Christ, was designated as a memorial.
PRIEST. Jerseyville – Oren J. Priest, 74, died at 11 pm Wednesday, 20 June 1990 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. He was an electrician with the Alton Local, retiring in 1974, and was a self-employed auctioneer. Born in Scott County, he was the son of the Late Oren Earl and Nellie (Langford) Priest. He married the former Opal McGowen on 13 April 1940 in St. Charles, Missouri. Surviving are his wife, a son, Don Priest of Carlinville; three Brothers, Orie Priest of Wood River, and Floyd and Donald Priest, both of Florida; and a Sister, Evelyn Rodgers of Oklahoma. A brother, Clarence Priest preceded him in death. Visitation is from 4 to 8 pm Friday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Visitation continues from 10 am until service time a 11 am at Gospel Assembly church in Jerseyville, where he was a member. The Rev. Clyde Shaw will officiate. Burial is in Oak Grove cemetery in Jerseyville.
PRILL. 12 December 1977: Graveside services for Ida G. Prill, 94, will be conducted at Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey, at 11 am 14 December by Father William Hembrow. Her death occurred at 5:20 am on 12 December at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville. She was born 26 November 1883 a daughter of Charles and Caroline Kohl Prill. She was formerly a department manager at Stix, Baer, & Fuller. She is survived by a sister, Nellie Prill of Jerseyville, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 pm Tuesday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home.
PRILL. 24 April 1975: Charles H. Prill, R. R. 4, Jerseyville died on 19 April at Greenwood Manor. The funeral was conducted Monday morning, 21 April from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home where visitation was held. The Rev. Robert L. Heintz officiated. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. A farmer, he was born in Jersey County, a son of Charles and Caroline Kohl Prill. His survivors are his widow, Mrs. Pauline Powell Prill to whom he was married on 14 October 1937; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Marie) Woelfel of Jerseyville; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Miss Nellie Prill of Jerseyville and Miss Ida Prill of St. Louis. His parents, one brother, and four sisters preceded him in death.
PRILL. 9 May 1957: Funeral services were held at the Church of the Holy Ghost in this city Monday morning May 6 at nine-thirty o’clock for Mrs. Agnes Catherine Prill, wife of John L. Prill of old Kane, whose death occurred at nine-seventeen o’clock Friday morning 3 May at the Jersey Community Hospital where she had been a patient for eight days. Father Paul P. Mrs. Prill, daughter of the late Nicholas and Fanny Pierre Schmittag, was born in Jerseyville 14 January 1897 and her age at the time of deaths was sixty years, three months and nineteen days. In addition to her husband, the decedent is survived by three Sons, Laverne L. Prill of Granite City, Russell H. and Earl E. Prill of Jerseyville; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret L. Foiles and Mrs. Dorothy J. Sauerwein of Jerseyville; four grandchildren; and two brothers, Joseph Schmittag and Anthony Schmittag of Jerseyville. One son, Eugene Prill preceded her in death. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home until the time of service.
PRILL. 17 February 1972: John Louis Prill, a mechanic at Sunderland Motor Company in Jerseyville for forty-four years, died at six fifty-two o’clock Wednesday morning, 16 February at the Jersey Community Hospital where he had been admitted a short time earlier. His health had been impaired for several years. Visitation hours will be held at the Gubser Funeral Home after two o’clock this (thurs) afternoon. Funeral services are scheduled for two o’clock Friday afternoon at the State Street Baptist church with Rev. L. E. Hutchinson officiating. Burial will be in the Kane cemetery. Mr. Prill, a son of the late Charles and Caroline Kohl Prill, was born in Jersey County 5 October 1895. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mildred Perdun Prill; three sons, Laverne Prill of Granite City and Earl and Russell Prill of Jerseyville; two daughters, Mrs. Russell (Margaret) Foiles and Mrs. Charles (Dorothy) Sauerwein of Jerseyville; six step children, Gerald, Wayne, David, and Donald Perdun of Jerseyville, Mrs. Jerry Sandberg of Mineola, MO and Mrs. Pete Main of Jerseyville; one brother, Charles Prill of Jerseyville; two sisters, Miss Nellie Prill of Alton and Miss Ida Prill of St. Louis; five grandchildren and sixteen step children. He was preceded in death by his first wife, one son, and five sisters. Mr. Prill was a member of the Kane Masonic Lodge.

Democrat News 29 February 1968: Mr. and Mrs. Ray (Bob) Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Fry and son, Mark, Mrs. Beatrice Fry, Mr. and Mrs. Joe French and Vicky and Johnnie Marshall Fry and Harold Fry of Jerseyville attended funeral services in Flint, Michigan, for their sister and sister-in-law, Mrs. Gracie Laverne Prince, who died 15 Feb. Mrs. Prince was the daughter of Mrs. Della Fry of this city who had been in Flint with her daughter for three weeks previous to her death. The Prince family formerly lived in the Grafton vicinity and Lockhaven.
PRINE. 28 February 1984: The funeral of Hazel R. Prine, 82, 422 Mounds, Jerseyville was held Sunday at the Bethel Methodist church in Newbern with the Rev. Steve Perrin officiating. Burial was in East Newbern cemetery. She died at 3:15 am 24 February at Jersey Community Hospital. She was born 28 December 1901 in Alton to the late Henry L. and Mary B. Brown Rice. Mrs. Prine was a teacher for Beveraly Farms for 22 years. She was a past president of the Royal Neighbors Lodge. She is survived by two daughters, Mary L. Closser of Milton and Dorothy Cummings of Jerseyville; step Daughter, Lucille Losch of Alton; one sister, Stella Pullen of Roseville, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur J. Prine; parents, a stepdaughter, two brothers and a sister.
PRINE. 1921: James R. Prine, aged 66 years, ? months, 6 days, died at his home 405 Clay Street, Tuesday, Feb. ? at 3:30 am. Funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian church Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, the pastor Rev. H. S Farrill officiating, and interment will be in the Union cemetery. Mr. Prine, who was a stonemason, had been in failing health since last fall, and had been confined to his home since Christmas. Besides his widow, he leaves four daughters, Mrs. P. F. Gleespin, Mrs. Joseph McDaniels of Jerseyville, Mrs. Walter Kitzmiller of Godfrey, Mrs. Arch Reed of Plainview, and two sons, Earl Prine of Piasa and Arthur Prine of McClusky.
PRITCHARD. 20 November 1984: Services for Hugh Pritchard, 76, 311 E. Pearl, Jerseyville were conducted Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist church by the Rev. V. Clay Noah with burial in Oak Grove cemetery. He died at 7:07 am 16 November at Jersey Community Hospital. A native of Camden County, MO, he was born 24 February 1908, son of the late William and Mary Slavens Pritchard and was a World War II Air Force veteran. Pritchard worked for 30 years for Army corps of Engineers, Lock and Dam No. 26 at Alton and was custodian at the First Baptist church for 10 years. He married Helen B. Foster 18 February 1956 in Jerseyville; she died 8 October 1978. His survivors are two Daughters, Joyce Steeby of Basehor, Kan. And Carol Pritchard, Jerseyville; two grandchildren, a Brother, Ralph Pritchard, California, Missouri; five sisters, Alpha Edwards, East Peoria, Lola Roll, Jefferson City, Missouri; Leasa Scott, Versailles, Missouri, Naomi Scott and Iva Williams of Tracy, Calif. The First Baptist church of which he was a member has been named as a memorial.
PRITCHARD. 9 October 1978: Mrs. Helen B. Pritchard, 53, of 311 E. Pearl St, Jerseyville was pronounced dead on arrival at Jersey Community Hospital at 9 am 8 October after suffering an apparent heart attack. She was born in Jersey County 10 July 1925, a daughter of Jud and Mena Kraushaar Foster. She had been a bookkeeper at C & W Equipment Co. Mrs. Pritchard was a member of the First Baptist church, Ruby Rebekah Lodge and the Madrigal Singers. Her survivors are her husband, Hugh Pritchard whom she married 18 February 1956; two daughters, Joyce and Carol Pritchard, both college students; and one brother, Truman Foster of Jerseyville. Her parents, one brother and a sister preceded her in death. Visitation after 4 pm 10 October at Gubser Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the First Baptist church at noon Wednesday where visitation will continue until time of services at 2 pm. The Rev. Orrin Anderson of the Alton First Baptist church will officiate and burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. The family has designated the Adult Choir of the First Baptist church as a memorial.
PRITCHETT. 27 December 1973: Funeral services for Charlotte Virginia Pritchett, 75, of R. R. 2 Jerseyville will be conducted this afternoon, 27 December at 2:30 at the First Presbyterian church. Rev. M. Edwards Breed will officiate at the rites. Interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Her death occurred at her home on 10:55 am on 25 December. She had been in ill health for some time. She was born 18 August 1898 in Jerseyville, the daughter of David Perry and Charlotte Darby Pritchett. Miss Pritchett retired as secretary at the State Bank of Jerseyville in January, 1973. She was a 40 year employee of State Bank. Miss Pritchett was a 50 year member of the Presbyterian church and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Elnora Meek of Jerseyville; two Brothers, Lynn Pritchett of Alton and Gilber Pritchett of Jerseyville; a niece and two nephews. Visitation was held at Jacoby Funeral Home.

He was born 6 April 1889 in Jersey County and died at 6:59 am 11 September at St. Luke’s hospital in St. Louis. His parents were David Perry and Charlotte Darby Pritchett. A retired farmer, he was member of the Jerseyville Elk’s Lodge 492, Worthey Post American Legion, a former assistant County Supervisor and a member of the Presbyterian church for over 50 years. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Mary E. Meek, Jerseyville; and one brother, Lynn Pritchett of Alton. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters, Charlotte and Henrietta. Visitation will be held from 4 until 9 pm Monday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home and at the church after noon Tuesday. Rev. M. Edwards Breed will officiate and burial will be at Oak Grove cemetery. The Worthey Post of the American Legion will be in charge of services at the grave. The family designates the heart fund as a memorial in lieu of flowers.

PRITCHETT. Republican Examiner. 8 July 1881: Mr. Willis Pritchett, older brother of D. P. Pritchett, Esq. of Jersey County, found dead in bed. He lived with his brother, Mr. D. P. Pritchett, and for years lived a secluded life.
PRITCHETT. Jerseyville Republican January 1912: Mrs. Lydia W. Pritchett died at her home of E. Pearl St., Jerseyville. 94 years old. Funeral from home. Rev. W. W. Hicks. Burial Oakland cemetery near Fidelity. Lived in Jersey County 74 years. Six children survive: David Perry Prichett, and Mrs. Robert Whitehead of Jerseyville, Dr. G. L. Pritchett of Fairbury, Neb.; Robert A. Pritchett of Denby, S. Dak.; Mrs. Sarah Wendell of White Hall; Mrs. Charles W. Parent of Tulsa, OK. Lydia Wendell Pease was born in Lyons, Wayne County, New York, 30 September 1817. With parents came to Upper Alton, Illinois in December 1834. Married David Perry Pritchett 5 November 1835. In 1837 moved to Jersey County. Had 12 children. Husband died 7 September 1891. She was last survivor of her brothers and sisters, being the next to the oldest of eight children. Intensely patriotic. Her forebearers for four generations back were born in America. The homestead has been in the family one hundred and three years.
PROFFER. Jan 1950: Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home Monday afternoon, 16 January at two o’clock for Mrs. Ida M. Proffer, whose death occurred Saturday, 14 January at 1:50 am at her home on Marian Street. Rev. Mason L. Smith pastor of the Kane Baptist church, officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs. Proffer was the daughter of the late Russell and Mary Ann Edwards Mullikan and was born in Greene County on 15 April 1882. Her age at the time of death was sixty seven years, eight months and twenty nine days. The decedent was the widow of Albert Proffer. She had been a resident of Jerseyville the past thirty years. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Emma C. Devening of Kane and Mrs. Henry Devening of Fieldon.
PROSSER. Jerseyville – Virginia R. Prosser, 83, died at 1:30 am Friday, 4 October 1991 at home after a lengthy illness. She was born in Jersey County 6 June 1908, a daughter of the Late Lyman L. and Nettie V. (White) Gowling. On 24 July 1926 in Wood River, she married John H. Prosser. He died 20 July 1987. Surviving are two sons, Lyman E. Fleming and S. Gene Prosser, both of Jerseyville; a daughter, Lois V. Call of Mascoutah; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. Visitation is from 4 to 9 pm Sunday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Visitation continues from 9 am Monday until service time at 10 am at the First Assembly of God church in Jerseyville. The Rev. Larry Hayes will officiate. Burial is in Oak Grove cemetery at Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to the church, where she was a member.

Born at Logan, Hawkins County, Ohio on 2 June 1844, son of John and Catherine Prough. Was one of eight children. Two survive – Simon Prough of Jerseyville and Mrs. Mary Yoder of Elkhart, Indiana. Was veteran of Civil War, having enlisted at age of 18. Married January 1869 to Hannah Watts of Greene County. Six children: James of Wichita, Kans., Lily Florence who died at age of 2, George A. of Wellston, and Robert A. of Cushing, Okla, Fred and Harry of Jersey County, nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren. Wife died 6 March 1921. Funeral at Baptist church in Wellston. Burial in Wellston cemetery.

Formerly lived in Jersey County where she spent her girlhood days and more than 30 years of married life. In 1901 moved to Okla with husband. Maiden name was Watts. Married 1868 to Andrew Prough. Six children: one child, Lillian, died a number of years ago. Living children Are: James of Wichita, Kans., George of Wellston, and Robert of Cushing, Okla.; Fred and Harry of Jersey County. 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. Three sisters, Mrs. J. H. Lalonde of Dennison, Tex., Mrs. Jennir King of Lone Jack, Missouri, and Mrs. J. W. Hawk of Kane and one Brother, W. W. Watts of Jersey. Funeral at Wellston.
PROUGH. Died 18-08-1952. Sep. 1952: George A. Prough, 78, a former resident of Jersey County, died 18 August at his home in Wellston, Okla. Mr. Prough was a son of the late Andrew and Hannah Watts Prough and was born in Kane. He resided in the Panhandle vicinity where he engaged in farming until 1901 when he moved to Wellston. He continued his farming operations near Wellston until a few years ago when he retired and moved from the farm to Wellston. Mr. Prough was married to the former Miss Grace Cope of Jerseyville who survives him. He also leaves two daughters, and a son, all of Wellston, and a brother, Harry Prough of the Panhandle vicinity. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Wellston and burial was in the Wellston cemetery. Harry Prough of Kane and Ward Cope and sons, Ivan and Troy, of Nutwood went to Wellston to attend the funeral rites. Mr. Cope is a brother to Mrs. George Prough.
PROUGH. undated clipping., Celebration of golden wedding: Mr. and Mrs. Simon Prough, well known residents of northeastern Jersey County, were pleasantly surprised Tuesday, 10 October at their home on Goodrich Street in this city, the occasion being the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage. The three children of Mr. and Mrs. Prough, Lewis Prough, Mrs. John Richey and Mrs. William Wayham, and other relatives were present to assist Mr. and Mrs. Prough celebrate their golden wedding. PROUGH. 21 October 1986: Frank Lewis Prough, 82, of Godfrey died at 2:43 am Monday, 20 October 1986 at his residence after a lengthy illness. Prough was born in Greene County and had been a commercial painter. He married the former Gertrude Richey on 9 September 1929 in East Alton. She survives. Other survivors include five Sons, H. Spencer Prough of Venice, Florida, James K. and Tom J. Prough, both of Stoughton, Wisconsin, Jack E. Prough of Jackson, Tenn. And Gordon B. Prough of St. Louis; two Daughters, Wanda Rusk of Ladue Missouri; and Marilyn Sue Cook of Eureka, Missouri; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 11:30 am Thursday until time of services at 1:30 pm at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The Revs. Mary Anna Vidakovich and Steve Perrin will officiate. Burial will be in Kane cemetery. Memorials may be sent to Bethel United Methodist church or Kane Baptist church.
PROUGH. 14 April 1966: picture appears: A fatal auto accident that occurred between Springfield and Petersburg around midnight Friday night in which a young father lost his life ended plans for an eastern visit in the home of Kane relatives. Found dead in the wreckage of his car in Richland Creek off Illinois Route 97, a half mile south of Salisbury, was Frank Jr. Prough of Petersburg, formerly of this locality. Prough had planned to come to Kane on Saturday to join his wife and sons, Jeffrey and Bradley, for an Easter holiday in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Terpening, where they had been visiting since Thursday. Mr. Prough, an agent for State Farm Insurance, had been in Springfield transacting business Friday and was enroute to his home when the accident occurred. The discovery of the crash was made by Max Tolan of Pleasant Plains, a motorist, who investigated after seeing the guard railing on the bridge damaged. The Prough car had gone through the railing, down an embankment, and into four feet of water according to the report of Sangamon County Coroner, W. C. Telford. Members of the Springfield rescue squad summoned to the scene cut a hole in the top of the car to remove Prough from it. Visitation hours were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at one o’clock Monday afternoon at the First Baptist church at Petersburg with Rev. Ollie Phillips officiating. Burial was in Kane cemetery. Mr. Prough was born in Alton October 24, 1928, a son of Frank L. Prough and the late Faye Spencer Prough. He was graduated from the Jersey township high school, and was a veteran of the Korean war. For the past four and one-half years the family had resided in Petersburg. His survivors are his widow, the former Emma Terpening; two sons, Jeffrey, 11 and Bradley 6; his father and step mother, Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Prough of Godfrey; five brothers, Spencer of Galesburg; James of Stoughton, Wisc., Jack of Baton Rouge, LA, Gordon of East Alton; and Thomas of Godfrey; two sisters, Mrs. James B. Rusk, Jr. of Bridgeton, Missouri, and Mrs. Marvin Cooke of Kirkwood, MO, and his grandmother, Mrs. Harry Prough of Kane who reared him. He was a member of the AF & AM in Kane and the Baptist church in Petersburg.
PROUGH. 21 March 1977: The funeral of Mrs. Aglenda Prough, 58, of Kane was held Monday afternoon, 21 March at 1 pm at the Kane Baptist church with the Rev. Garold Cooper officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Her death occurred at 3 am on 19 March at barnes hospital in St. Louis. She was born 15 July 1918 in Jersey County, a daughter of Charles and Emma Williams Tucker. Mrs. Prough was a member of the Kane Baptist church and Jersey County Home Extension. She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Prough of Kane; one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Rebecca) Alexander of Grafton; two sons, Dennis K. Prough and Gary L. Prough of Kane; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Arnold Tucker of Linn Grove, and Norman Tucker of Fieldon; and one sister, Mrs. Aurealia Pagh of Hawthorne Woods.
PROUGH. 11 February 1960: Harry Cleveland Prough, seventy-four year old retired farmer of Kane, died at his home Sunday morning, 7 February at eleven forty-five o’clock. He had recently returned home following hospitalization at the Jersey Community Hospital. Mr. Prough was born in Jersey County, 1 March 1885, and his death occurred three weeks before his seventy-fifth birthday anniversary. He had retired from farming and had lived in Kane the past three years. Surviving the decedent are his wife, Mrs. Theresa Prough; three Sons, Frank L. Prough of Godfrey, Frank J. Prough, Jr of Kane, and Howard Spencer Prough of Jerseyville; thirteen grandchildren and great grandchildren; and one Brother, R. A. Prough of Bristow, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, James, George and Fred Prough, and a sister who died in infancy. Mr. Prough was a past master of King Solomon Lodge, No. 197, AF & AM of Kane, and he was a fifty year member of the Kane Modern Woodman of America Camp. He was also a member of the Kane Baptist church. Funeral services for Mr. Prough were held at two o’clock Wednesday afternoon, 10 February at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home. Rev. H. L. Potter of Kane officiated and burial was in the Kane cemetery.

Jersey County Democrat 24 January 1935: Mrs. Margaret Prough, widow of the late Simon Prough died at her home in Jerseyville, Sunday, 20 January at 3:45 am, at the age of 87 years 6 months and 16 days. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers funeral chapel, Tuesday, 22 January at 2:00 pm; Elder T. J. Roady officiating. Interment was in the Oak Grove cemetery. The deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John H. Ritchey and Mrs. William Wayham, and one son, Louis A. Prough, all of Kane. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Henrietta Schreck of Hollywood, Calif; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Last Monday, Mrs. Prough fell and fractured a hip. Death ensued from pneumonia. Coroner Wm. E. Hopper conducted an inquisition into the cause of her death Sunday.
PROUGH. Jerseyville Republican 29 September 1904: David Prough, son of Simon Prough, died 27 September from accidental discharge of a gun. Had been hunting about a quarter mile from home of his father-in-law, Cornelius Whitehead. His dog came home with a bloody rag around his neck. Mr. Whitehead followed dog until they found Prough. Leaves wife and baby. Funeral from Whitehead home. Burial in Keller cemetery. 22 years of age.
PRUIETT. 30 November 1986: Medora – Chester W. Pruiett, 75, was pronounced dead at 7:45 am Wednesday, 29 October 1986, at the scene of an automobile accident north of Medora, due to an apparent heart attack. Pruiett served in the US Army and was a crane operator with Laclede Steel for 20 years before retiring in 1975. He was born in Bluffdale, IL, the son of the Late Cecil and Mae (Garrison) Pruiett. In 1943, in St. Louis, he married the former Vivian Violett, and she survives. Also surviving are two Daughters, Loreita Hunn of Medora and Ramona Fisher of Washington, Illinois; two sons, Larry Pruiett of Greenfield and Wayne L. Pruiett of Frankfort, Illinois; 20 grandchildren; four great grandchildren and four Sisters, Ferna Snyder of White Hall, Estellena Pruiett and Dorthhea Lea Wilson, both of Forest Lake, Minn., and June Church of Ft. Meyers, Florida. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 pm Friday at Warner-Targhetta Funeral Home in Medora. Services will be at the Funeral Home at 2 pm Saturday, with Rev. Earl Clagg officiating. Burial will be in Kemper cemetery, north of Medora. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
PRUIT. 1888: Mrs. Mary Pruit died at her home in Fidelity, Tuesday, 17 July of old age. She was born in KY in 1800 and came to where St. Louis is now located in 1808, and then moved near Apple Creek in Greene County in 1812. She lived there until 1818, where she was married and moved in that year west of Jerseyville where Jett Post’s farm is, and then she went on a farm in Hawkins’ Prairie near Fidelity to live, where she resided until after her husband’s death. Deceased was a Christian lady since she was sixteen years old, uniting with the Baptist church in 1816. She was loved by all who knew her. Mrs. Pruit was the mother of six children, three of whom are living; grandmother of thirty; great grandmother of sixty, and great great grandmother of one, who is the baby son of James Perrings of this city. Her funeral was largely attended from the Baptist church at Fidelity, Thursday, 19th inst., Rev. Bush officiating.
PRUITT. 15 April 1987: Medora – Opal A. Pruitt, 85, died at 4:55 pm Tuesday 14April at Barry Care Center in Carlinville. She was born in Jersey County, daughter of the late Isaac and Helen (Stewart) Huff. In October 1923, she married Virgil Pruitt. He preceded her in death in February 1960. Surviving are a daughter, Helen Eads of Medora; a son, Virgil Pruitt of Carlinville; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and Harold Frank of Brighton, who was raised in the home. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 pm Friday at Warner-Targhetta Funeral Home in Medora. At the Bethlehem Tabernacle in Greenfield, visitation will continue from noon Saturday until time of services at 2 pm. The Rev. Loyd Younkin will officiate. Burial will be at Jalappa cemetery in Greene County. Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
PRUITT. 07 January 1971: Funeral rites for Chester Logan Pruitt, 86, of Kane were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home where visitation hours were held. He was pronounced dead on arrival at 10:45 o’clock Monday morning at Jersey Community Hospital. Rev. Earl D. Clagg officiated at the rites and interment was in Kane cemetery. A retired farmer, he was born 21 December 1884 in Jersey County, the son of Martin and Annie Leonard Pruitt. His survivors are his wife, Mrs. Elsie Grizzle Pruitt, and one daughter, Miss Bonnie Sue Pruitt of Jerseyville. Mr. Pruitt had suffered a fracture of his left knee when he fell over some tree roots the middle of November.
PRUITT. Jerseyville Republican 8 February 1912: Mrs. Jeanette Pruitt died at St. Joseph’s hospital 5 Feb. 57 years old. Me church; Rev. O. L. Markman. Was mother of Ernest Pruitt of Jerseyville. Jannetta Leavesay was born in Washington County, Illinois 17 January 1855. Married Isaiah Williamson in 1872 and settled in Jersey County. Three children. In 1882 married George Pruitt and moved to Grafton. One son. ME church at Grafton. Leaves four sons: Chas. Williamson of N. Alton, Albert Williamson of Lincoln, Illinois; Robert Williamson of Frankfort, Missouri and Ernest P. Pruitt of Jerseyville. Five step children, Johnson and Jonas Pruitt, Mrs. Katherine Johnson, Mrs. Ella Cray, Mrs. Emma Cody. Two brothers, Jackson and Thomas Leavesay, two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Rice and Mrs. Belle Logan, nine grandchildren.
PRUITT. Jerseyville Republican 3 April 1919: Mrs. Annie Leonard Pruitt, pioneer of Jersey County died at her home eight miles northeast of Jerseyville. 78 years old. Born at Cumberland, Guernsey County, Ohio 10 October 1840. 9 September 1863 married to Martin Pruitt who died 27 December 1887. Nine children; eight survive. Mrs. Minnie Davis of Abingdon, Illinois; Frank L. and Roy H. Pruitt of Fidelity; Mrs. Caddie E. Strebel; Walter S. Ernest E., Harry W. and Chester L. Pruitt of Jerseyville and vicinity. Leaves also brother and sister, John Leonard of Quincy and Mrs. Carrie L. Tack of Jerseyville. They are only surviving members of a family of ten. 23 grandchildren, six great grandchildren. Funeral from home by Rev. George Hayes. Burial in Pruitt cemetery.

PRUITT. 22 December 1977: Services for Otis M. Pruitt, 52, of 519 W. Spruce St., Jerseyville were held this morning, 22 December at Gubser Funeral Home with Father William Hembrow officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. He died unexpectedly at 8:21 pm 19 December at Jersey Community Hospital where he had been admitted that morning. Pruitt was retired from the maintenance department at Union Electric in Alton. He was born in Jersey County 9 January 1925 a son of Ernest and Mabel Green Pruitt. Surviving him are his widow, the Former Mary Vancil, whom he married 24 April 1942; two sons, Jerry L. Pruitt of Jerseyville and David E. Pruitt of Carrollton; three daughters, Mrs. Fred (Sandra) Freand Jr., and Patty L. Pruitt, Jerseyville and Mrs. Paula S. Bridges, Carrollton. One sister, Mrs. Gertrude Steward of Jerseyville; two brothers, Paul Pruitt of Phoenix, Ariz. And Ellsworth Pruitt of Alton; 10 grandchildren. A prayer service was held Wednesday evening at the Gubser Funeral Home.
PRUITT. Jerseyville Republican 18 December 1919: Wm. E. Pruitt, for many years a resident of Fidelity, died at Nazareth home in Alton, 93 years old. Born in Jersey County, where he lived most of his life. Few years ago Mr. and Mrs. Pruitt moved to Alton. Wife died last July; since that time he has been living with his daughter, Mrs. Frank Weiss. Mr. Pruitt’s uncle, William E. Pruitt, built the first log cabin ever constructed in Madison County. He was a son of Major Pruitt, who took part in some of the most stirring scenes in the early history of Illinois. Leaves three daughters, Mrs. Frank Weiss and Mrs. Frank Walters of Alton, Mrs. Thomas Moran of Fidelity. Mrs. James Bradshaw, a sister, lives at Nokomis, Illinois. PRUITT. 1985: Fieldon – Jessie W. Pruitt, 60, died at 5:35 am today at Christian hospital northeast in St. Louis. She was born in Petersburg, a daughter of Alice (Rogers) Tozer of Carrollton and the late James Tozer. On 11 April 1944 in Phoenix City, Alabama, she married Leo “Cotton” Pruitt who survives. In addition to her husband and mother, surviving are two sons, Robert and Joseph, both of Godfrey; four grandchildren; one brother, Charles Tozer of Carrollton; and two sisters, Alice Pegram and Loraine Schofield, both of Carrollton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 pm Wednesday at Jacoby brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville where services will be conducted at 1:30 pm. Thursday with the Rev. Wayne Pendleton officiating. Burial will be in Fieldon cemetery. Obit #2 25 September 1985: Jessie W. Pruitt, 60, of Fieldon died 17 September at Christian hospital northeast in St. Louis. She was born 13 February 1925 in Petersburg to Alice Rogers Tozer and the late James Tozer. She married Leo Pruitt on 11 April 1944 in Phoenix City, Ala. She was a member of the Business Booster Club of Fieldon and Jerseyville Eagles’ Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Leo of Fieldon; sons Robert and Joseph, both of Godfrey; mother Alice Tozer of Carrollton; brother Charles Tozer of Carrollton; sisters Alice Pegram and Loraine Schoefield, both of Carrollton; and four grandchildren. Visitation was 18 September and the funeral was 19 September at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville with the Rev. Wayne Pendleton officiating. Burial was in the Fieldon cemetery.
PRUITT. Jerseyville – Jerry Lee Pruitt, 49, died at 2:35 am today, 22 July 1992 at his residence after an illness. Born 17 July 1943, in Carrollton, he was the son of Mary (Vancil) Pruitt of Jerseyville and the late Otis Marion Pruitt. He was employed as a crane operator for 30 years at Laclede Steel Co in Alton and was a member of Jerseyville Moose Lodge 695. On 14 Nov, 1959, in Jerseyville, he married the former Patsy Slaten, and she survives. Also surviving are four sons, Gary Lee, Jerry Lee, Jr., Barry Allen and Larry Eugene Pruitt, all of Jerseyville; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Sandra Kay Freand of Jerseyville, Paula Sue Edwards of Higbee, Missouri, and Patsy Lynn Cummings of Delhi; and a brother, David Eugene Pruitt of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Allen Pruitt. Visitation is from 4 to 8 pm Thursday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services are at 10 am Friday. The Rev. William H. Hembrow will officiate. Burial is in Oak Grove cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
PRUITT. Jerseyville Republican 17 July 1919: Mrs. Lucy Pruitt, wife of Wm. Pruitt of Fidelity died from old age at home of daughter, Mrs. Frank Weiss of Alton. Pruitts were the oldest residents of Fidelity neighborhood. Both 92 years old and had never been separated during 71 years of wedded life. She was born in Virginia and when six years old came with parents to Greene County. Then to Jersey County. Lived in Fidelity 45 years. She had never been seriously ill until seven days before her death. Celebrated golden wedding 22 years ago. Parents of nine children, three of whom survive; Mrs. Frank Walters of Alton, Mrs. Thomas Moran of Fidelity and Mrs. Frank Weiss of Alton. Mrs. Gorham of Jerseyville, Mrs. Heck Bell of Fidelity and Mrs. Samuel Riggs of Morrisonville are sisters. Mrs. Hattie Woodruff, Mrs. Wm. Strebble, Ernest Logan, Walter and Harry Pruitt, Jerseyville, Frank Pruitt of Fidelity, Roy Pruitt of Medora and Mrs. B. R. Dadvis of Abingdon, Illinois are nephews and nieces. PRUITT. Kane – Elsie A. Pruitt, 92, died at 4:55 pm Sunday, 13 December 1987 at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville. Born in Greene County, she was a daughter of the late John M. and Sarah (Mains) Grizzle. She married Harry Daniels on 3 July 1915, and he died in August, 1919. She later married Logan Pruitt on 24 October 1921 in Jersey County. He died 4 January 1971. Surviving are a daughter, Bonnie Palmer of Kane; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Madge Bradley; seven sisters; and two brothers. Visitation is from 4 to 9 pm Tuesday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be conducted at 1:30 pm Wednesday by the Rev. Earl Clagg. Burial will be in Kane cemetery, and memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist church in Jerseyville.
PRUITT. Jersey County Democrat 17 January 1935: Walter S. Pruitt, a former resident of Jersey County, died at his home in Abingdon, IL, Wednesday, 9 January at eight o’clock pm. The deceased was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Martin Pruitt and was born in Jerseyville. At the time of death he was aged sixty-two years. Mr. Pruitt is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Coarsen; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Davis of Abingdon; and five brothers, Frank Pruitt of Chicago, Harry Pruitt of Jerseyville; Roy Pruitt of Medora; Ernest Pruitt of Plainview; and C. Logan Pruitt of Jersey County. Funeral services were held at the Jacoby Brothers Funeral Chapel in this city Saturday, 12 December at two o’clock with Elder T. J. Roady of Kane officiating. Interment was in the Oak Grove cemetery.
PRUITT. Died 05-09-1984. Calhoun Herald 13 September 1984: Funeral of Fannie L. Pruitt, 96 years old, held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. R. E. George serving. Burial in Fieldon cemetery. Born 19 June 1888 in Fieldon to late Albert and Ruth Watson Skiff. Married Kersey H. Pruitt in June 1910. He died 23 July 1957. Leaves two sons, Kersey H. Pruitt and Leo of Fieldon; five daughters, Norma Cates, Ruth Devening and Goldie Pruitt of Fieldon and Blanche Herring and Beatrice Wadlow of Jerseyville. 32 grandchildren, 83 great grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren.
PRYOR. Delhi – Clarence M. Pryor, 61, died at 1:30 pm Sunday, 22 April 1990 in Otter Creek township in Jersey County. He was a welder at Laclede Steel co in Alton, retiring in 1986. He was a US Army Korean war veteran and a member of VFW Post 1308 of Alton. Born in Thebes, he was the son of the late Allie and Delia (Coombs) Pryor. He married the Former Dorothy Coalson on 24 November 1948 in Wood River and she survives. Also surviving are a Son, Bruce Pryor of Delhi; two grandchildren; a brother, Charles Pryor of Rosewood Heights; and a sister, Emma Jane Goskie of Hartford. Visitation is from 4 to 9 pm Tuesday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, where services are at 1 pm Wednesday with the Rev. Rodger Mattson officiating. Burial is in Upper Alton cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
PRZYBYLSKI. 28 August 1985: Jerseyville native Phyllis Wedding Przybylski, 61, of Cicero died 18 August in a Chicago hospital. Mrs. Przybylski was born in Jerseyville on 12 October 1923. She married Joseph Przbylski and he survives. Survivors include sister, Orpha Witt of Jerseyville; daughter Patricia Cavella, Chicago; son William of Chicago; seven brothers, including area residents Phillip Wedding and Jerry Wedding, both of Godfrey, and Bill Wedding of Grafton; three sisters and six grandchildren. Funeral services were 20 August at the Kulasik Funeral Home in Cicero, with burial at the Resurrection Cemetery in Cicero.
PURCELL. 13 April 1982: The funeral of Lucrecie J. Purcell, 85, of 939 W. Delmar, Godfrey, was held Thursday morning at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton with burial in Scenic Hill cemetery. Her death occurred at 9:50 pm 5 April at St. Anthony’s hospital in Alton. She was born in Rolla, Missouri, March 18, 1897, a daughter of Benjamin and Mary Figge Hodge. Surviving are a son, Ken Whaley of Godfrey; two daughters, Betty Mitchell of Springfield and Mary Pepper of Florissant, Missouri, a sister, Ethel Jones of Decatur; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Purcell who died in December, 1980; parents , two brothers and two sisters.
PURCELL. 16 August 1973: Funeral services were held at the Hope Lutheran church at two o’clock Sunday afternoon for James Blaine Purcell of R. R. 2, Jerseyville. Rev. A. A. Ledebuhr officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home. The death of Mr. Purcell occurred at two-fifty o’clock Thursday afternoon at the Jersey Community Hospital where he had been a patient for ten days. Mr. Purcell, a native of Letcher County, Kentucky, was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James E. Purcell. His age at the time of death was sixty-one years, two months, and nine days. He was a construction worker. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Purcell; five sons, James E. of Dow, Joseph A., John E. and Jerry Lee of Jerseyville; and Jewell B. of Carrollton; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Doris) Hacklewood of Kingsport, Tenn., and Mrs. Charles L. (Judith) White of Jerseyville; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Flora Goins of Kingsport and Agnes Hilton of Clinchport, Tenn.

PURINTON. Jerseyville Republican 14 March 1912: Miss Elizabeth Purinton, former resident and teacher of Jerseyville public schools, died at her home 11 March in Boston, Mass.
PURINTON. 8 May 1902: Alfred B. Purinton was born in Truxton, Cortland County, New York, 16 February 1834. He removed to Coldwater, Michigan early in life, and while filling the position of Postmaster in that city in 1862, enlisted in Company I, Fourth Michigan Cavalry and entered the United States service as First Sergeant. August 1, 1864 he was promoted to the office of Second Lieutenant for meritorious service, and at the close of the war, was Brevetted First Lieutenant for honorable service, especially rendered at the capture of Confederate President, Jefferson Davis. The Fourth Michigan Cavalry, Lieutenant Purinton’s Regiment, under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Benjamin D. Pritchard, was detailed in April, 1865, to effect if possible the capture of the President of the Confederacy, who was making earnest efforts to escape from this country. This regiment followed Mr. Davis and his party several days, until early on the morning of 10 May 1865, thirty-seven years ago next Saturday, they overtook him encamped near Irwinville, Georgia. Lt. Puinton was detailed to lead a small force of his men to surround the camp and cut off his retreat; this was done successfully and the capture of the rebel chief was thus effected. After the capture, Lt. Purinton, with three other officers, and a detachment of men, conveyed Mr. Daivs to Fortress Monroe where he was kept until his release under the reconstruction proclamation of President Johnson. Lt. Purinton moved from Lincoln, Illinois to this city in 1882 and has since made his home in our midst, but such was the modesty of this hero of the Civil War, that but few even of his neighbors knew the prominent part he enacted and the splendid record he made in the great struggle for our national existence. Though modest and unassuming, Lt. Purinton was man of sterling worth and of the most exalted moral character. 24 January 1867, married to Nettie Maxwell at Coldwater, Mich. and for 45 years they were married. Three children: Lena Monroe of Brighton, Mass., Fred V. Purinton of Lincoln, Illinois and Elizabeth Purinton of Jerseyville.
PUSKAR. 17 January 1977: George P. Puskar, 55, of East Vine Street, Brighton, was pronounced dead at 7 am on 14 January following a fire in his trailer. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Wanda Davis of Woodburn and Diane Puskar of Oklahoma; a son, George Puskar of Medora; a step daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Hazelip of Woodburn; four sisters, Mrs. Roy Wagenblast and Mrs. Rose Nurnberger of Brighton, Mrs. Sue Hansen, Texas City, Texas and Mrs. Pauline Stubblefield of Shipman; and a brother, Robert Puskar of Brighton. Warner-Targhetta Funeral Home in Brighton was in charge of arrangements.
PYLE. 13 January 1981: Victor H. Pyle, 68, 210 W. Fairgrounds, Jerseyville, died at 8 pm 5 January at Jersey Community Hospital. His survivors are his wife, the former Alma Marshall; two sons, Roger Pyle of Chenoa and John of Missouri; a daughter, Vickie Carter of Grafton; one stepdaughter, Phyllis Williams of Jerseyville, nine grandchildren; one brother and a sister, Noble Pyle of Decatur and Mabel Crabtree of Moroa. Services were conducted Thursday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home by the Rev. R. E. George with burial in Valhalla Park. The American Cancer Society has been designated as a memorial.
PYLE. 5 March 1970: Funeral rites for Mrs. Mabel C. Pyle, 56, of Route 1, Grafton, will be held this afternoon at the Staten Funeral Chapel, Alton, with Rev. Edward P. Harper of Grafton officiating. She was pronounced dead on arrival Monday at Alton Memorial hospital. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park. Born in Nameoki 26 June 1913, she was the daughter of the late William and Effie Green. She attended Alton schools. Mrs. Pyle was a member of the Methodist church of Grafton. She is survived by her husband, Victor H. Pyle; two sons, John of East Alton and Roger of Grafton; a daughter, Mrs. William (Vickie) Carter of Grafton; and three grandchildren. Also surviving are three Brothers, T. L. Green of Grafton, Robert and Pearl Green of East Alton; and two sisters, Mrs. Beryl (Alice) White of Collinsville and Mrs. Wilbur (Geraldine) Welch of Worden.
