QUAIN. Died 02-12-1897. Miss Mamie Quain, 28, died Dec 2, 1897. Born in New Jersey Apr 3, 1879. She leaves her sister Ella 3 brothers and her father. “Thus star by star declines, till all are passed away – as morning high and higher shines, to pure and perfect day – nor sink those stars in empty night – but hide themselves in heaven’s own light.” Funeral from St Francis church, Revs Harty and Murphy. Pallbearers: Harry Jennings, Wm Fahey, Michael Costello, Thomas Allen, Dennis Roach and John Betman. Burial in Catholic Cemetery (St Francis?). Among the beautiful floral offerings was one presented by the Wholesale Milliner House of King, Brinsmade & Co of St Louis in whose employ Miss Quain had been for years.
QUATTROCCHI. Died 31-01-1982. Nicholas J “Buster” Quattrocchi, 75, of Louisiana, MO died Jan 31, at St Mary Hospital in Quincy. He was the father of Francis J Quatrocchi of Jerseyville. A funeral mass was celebrated Wed at St Joseph Catholic Church with burial in the Catholic Cem at Louisiana, MO, he was a son of the late Vincent & Lena (Caruso) Quattrocchi. His survivors are his wife, Shirley A. (Garner) Quatrocchi; 3 sons; 5 grandchildren; 1 g-grandson and 1 sister.
Mrs. QUICK, daughter of Billy KELLY, died last Sunday and was buried Tuesday. From Jersey County Democrat, April 8, 1880.
QUINN. Died 1879. Mrs Patrick Quinn, 60, died on the 25th after a fall during a sleet storm last winter. Born in 1819 in the County Gorway, Parish Fairhill, Ireland, maiden name was Joyce, and 1 of a family of 9 children. In 1839 she married to William Varrelly. They were parents of 2 children, both of whom died. Varrelly died in 1846. She came to America in 1851, married Patrick Quinn in 1854. They parented 3 children, 2 girls and 1 boy. She lived to raise only 1. Buried from St Francis Church Rev Harty. One of the largest funerals ever held in the city. Pallbearers were: John Kileen, Michael Duddy, Michael Jennings, Thomas O’donnell, Dan Slaven, Mat Murphy, John Jennings and Wm Grancy.
QUINN. Died 21-01-1904. Amanda Quinn, 73, daughter of Phillip & Polly Grimes, born near Jerseyville, Nov 10, 1831 and died at her home west of Jerseyville, Jan 21, 1904. In 1835 she married John Mackeldon who died in the spring of 1862. 2 children Caroline who died in infancy and Marion Mackeldon of this city. In 1864, she remarried; to Richard Quinn of Jerseyville. 4 children blessed this union, 3 survive: Philip, the oldest having departed this life just as he entered manhood. Survivors are; her husband; and children; Mrs Maloney of St Louis, Thomas Quinn of Jerseyville and John Quinn of OK. She joined Lebanon church in 1865. Later Baptist church in Jerseyville. Service held at her home Rev F B Glre??
QUINN. Died 12-1909. John Quinn, brother of Richard and Thomas Quinn, was buried from St Francis Catholic Church. Father Harty.
QUINN. Died 02-1883. John Quinn died Sun and buried from Catholic Church Tues. He had suffered a paralytic stroke. He lived with John Cuddihee, but had come to the home of his brother, Dick Quinn, northwest of town, where he died.
QUINN. Died 02-1917. Miss Mary Quinn, 56, died at the home of her cousin, George Casey, Jerseyville. Funeral from St Francis Church, Rev J J Clancy, Rev Fanning, Rev Shiels conducting. Burial in St Francis Cemetery. 1 brother, John of Jerseyville. 2 Sisters: Mrs Thomas Allen of Jerseyville and Mrs Jos Quirk of East St Louis.
QUINN. Morelin Quinn, 66, died at 8 pm Thurs, Nov 15, 1990, at Christian Hosp NE in St Louis county, after a lengthy illness. She was a nurses aid and cook for 30 years at Waters Nursing Home in Jerseyville and was a member of Jerseyville Eagles Lodge 2747. Born in Jerseyville, she was the daughter of the late Charles Thomas & Nettie Gertrude (Emerick) Langley. In Hamburg, in 1943, she married Leslie Eugene Dirksmeyer. He died Dec 12, 1947. Surviving are 3 sons, Eugene Dirksmeyer of Brighton, Leslie Ray Dirksmeyer of Jerseyville and Thoman Michael Quinn of Fosterburg; 3 daughters, Roxie Smith, Hylia Schriber and Rosalie Quinn, all of Jerseyville; 14 grandchildren; 1 g-grandchild; and 1 brother Earl T Langley of Greenfield. Preceding her in death were 1 sister, Roxie Lee Langley; 2 Brothers, Merle E and Howard W Langley; and 1 half-brother, Charles Langley. Visitation is from 4-9 Pm Sun at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services will be held there at 1:30 pm Mon. Rev Dan Harry will officiate. Burial is in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to American Diabetes Assoc.
QUINN. Died 12-1909. Paul Quinn, 14, died at the home of her parents, Mr & Mrs Quinn. Funeral from the home, Rev P D Curran.
QUINN. Died 1921. Richard Quinn, 91 years, 3 months, 6 days, one of our oldest and best known citizens died recently. His first wife was Miss Tempe (Neely) Quinn and there were 2 children by this union; Richard and Rebecca. His second wife was Amanda (Mackelden) Quinn; there were 3 children of this marriage; Thomas, John and Mary. Dick Quinn, as he was known to his associates had lived practically all his life in Jersey County, and the later years in Jerseyville. – no further info. –
QUIRK. Died 25-04-1942. Bridget Quirk, 78, widow of Joseph L Quirk, died Sat evening, Apr 25, at the home of her daughter, Mrs Leslie Lillis, south of Medora. Mrs Quirk had been in ill health for the past 7 years and 2 months ago suffered a stroke of paralysis. She was the daughter of the late Thomas & Elen (Kinsella) Quinn and was born near Jerseyville. Her early days were spent in this vicinity and following her marriage to Mr Quirk moved to East St Louis where she resided until 2 years ago, when she went to Medora to make her home with her daughter. Surviving are 2 sons, Richard & Paul Quirk of East St Louis, 3 daughters, Sister Norbertine of Cape Girardeau, MO, Miss Evelyn Quirk of East St Louis and Mrs Lillis of Medora, 5 grandchildren, and 1 sister, Mrs Thomas Allen of Jerseyville. Funeral services were Held Tues at 9:30 in St Francis church in Jerseyville. Rev Father J J Clancy officiated and interment was in St Francis Cemetery.
QUIRK. Died 29-03-1957. John D Quirk, 73 years 1 month, 18 days, who served a chairman of the Ag Stabilization Committee in Jersey County for 10 years, died Friday afternoon March 29, at his home in Fidelity township. Mr Quirk had been in ailing health for 4 years and was a patient at Jersey Community hospital for 4 months. Due to ill health Mr Quirk was serving as Vice-Chairman of the ASC this year. He had been active in the Farm Bureau and its programs for a number of years. The decedent was the son of the late William & Alice (Phelan) Quirk and was born in Fidelity Township on Feb 11, 1884. Mr Quirk was married Jan 25, 1911 to Alma (Ryan) Quirk, who survives. Also surviving are 1 son John Quirk of Medora; 1 Brother, William Quirk of Jerseyville; 3 sisters, Miss Alice Quirk of Medora, Mrs Henrietta Schmidt of Granite City and Mrs Crace Muffley of Jerseyville, and 1 granddaughter. He was a member of the Modern Woodman of America and St John Church of Medora. The body was moved from Warner Funeral Home to the Quirk residence where friends called. Final rites were held at 9:30 am, Apr 1 at St John Church of Medora. Requiem mass was celebrated by Rev Father S J O’Hara and interment was in St Francis Cemetery Jerseyville.
QUITT. Died 05-11-1980. Albert Quitt, 79, formerly of Grafton, died in Indiana Nov. 5. Services and burial were held Sat. in South Bend, IN. He was a son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Engle) Quitt. He is survived by 1 daughter, Alberta Powers of Terre Haute, IN, 6 grandchildren and 1 Sister, Verna Scott of Jerseyville.
QUITT. Joseph Quitt, 80, died at his home 5 miles northwest of Grafton, May 10, 1904. Mr Quitt was born May 17, 1824 in Saxony, Germany. On Aug 20, 1854, in Chicago, he married Anna Marin (Morman) Quitt. They came to Jersey County in 1856. He was a member of the Lutheran church from childhood. Funeral service was held at the old homestead, conducted by Rev S Thero and interment was in a private burying ground on his farm. He leaves 6 children and 25 grandchildren. His wife died 12 years ago.
