DARCY, Mary. born 1802, died 12-08-1887. Mary DArcy, 85, another old settler has been called from the scenes of an active live on this earth to the great hereafter. In 1833, she and her husband, Dr. E. A. DArcy, came to Jersey County when it was yet a part of Greene County and almost an unbroken vast of prairies. They made their home at a point now about midway between Jerseyville and Kane on the banks of a little stream, which has since borne the name of DArcy branch. At the time, Jerseyville was unborn, and there was no postoffice between Kane and Delhi. Mrs DArcy was a lady of rare amiability, which endeared her to all persons with whom she became acquainted. She resided in Jerseyville until the death of her daughter, Mrs. P. D. Cheney, in 1877, when she returned to JJ (NJ?) the place of her birth to end her days amid the scenes of her childhood. She died August 12, 1887, and her husband, Dr. D. died in April 1863.
Mrs. DABBS, near Otterville, died suddenly April 1, 1898. She had just recently moved there from Hartford. From Jersey County Democrat, April 4, 1898.
Hazel L. DABBS, April 21, 1904, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. William DABBS, at the home of her parents in Grafton, 8 years, buried Hartford Cemetery.
Willie DABBS, a son of W. W. DABBS, was buried on last Sunday. The young man was sick but a few days with something like catarrh in the head. He was nineteen years old and gave promise of being a useful man. Jersey County Democrat, 5 April 1877.
DABBS, b. 1880, Grafton, Grafton, Jersey County, Illinois, died 04-1898, buried Hartford cemetery. Mrs. Oscar Dabbs died at her home on Friday. She was a daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Perry Williams and was born & raised in this vicinity. She married Oscar Dabbs last summer and was not quite 19 yrs old. Buried at Hartford cemetery.
DABBS. Died 01-04-1898. Mrs. Dabbs, near Otterville, died suddenly April 1. They had lived there only a short time, having moved there from Hartford. Daughter of Mr. S. John Kaslick. Remains taken to Hartford for services. She had been organist in this church and a member of Good Templars Order. The organ was draped in mourning.
DABBS, Alice M. (Hutchinson), born 13-11-1882, Chandlerville, Cass County, Illinois, died 01-04-1974, buried 03-04-1974, Valhalla cemetery. Alice M. Dabbs, 91, of Rural Route 3, Jerseyville died April 1 at Jerseyville Community hospital. Funeral services were held April 3 at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev R. E. George officiated and interment was in Valhalla cemetery. She was born in Chandlerville November 13, 1882, the daughter Charles & Elizabeth (Rayworth) Hutchinson. She is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. Walter (Mary Alice) Flowers of Jerseyville; 3 sons Kearney Oscar, Herschel K. and Morris L. Dabbs all of Jerseyville; 1 brother and 1 sister, Russell Hutchinson and Mrs. Blanch Young, Jerseyville; 10 grandchildren; 23 g-grandchildren; 1 g-g-grandchild. Husband, Oscar Dabbs, and 3 brothers preceded her in death.
DABBS, Anna (McGrew), born 31-03-1890, Tuscola, Douglas County, Illinois, died 21-08-1978, buried Rosedale cemetery. Anna McGrew Dabbs, 88, of Jerseyville died August 21, in White Hall hospital where she had been a patient since August 14. She was born in Tuscola March 31, 1890, a daughter of the late James O. & Lyda (Golay) McGrew. Mrs Dabbs was a member of First United Methodist church. Services were held Thursday afternoon at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev R. E. George, pastor of First United Methodist church officiating. Burial was in Rosedale cemetery. Her survivors are 1 son, Arthur J. Dabbs of Jerseyville; 2 daughters Mrs. Dorothy Beiermann of Jerseyville and Mrs. Lucille McCaherty of Chicago; 6 grandchildren; 18 g-grandchildren and 4 g-g-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Dabbs who died August 17, 1951; 3 children; 5 sisters and 1 brother.
DABBS, Arthur J., born 24-02-1910, Rosedale Township, Jersey County, Illinois, died 08-02-1981, buried Oak Grove cemetery. Arthur J. Irish Dabbs, of Jerseyville was found dead in the kitchen of his home about 9:30 am February 8 by Les Fryman, a close friend. He had been deceased 2 days according to coroner Paul Schroeder, from natural causes. Born in Rosedale Township in Jersey County February 24, 1910, he was a son of the late Andrew J. & Anna (McGrew) Dabbs. He was a retired self-employed trucker and had worked for the State of Illinois. He is survived by 1 son, Robert Lee Dabbs of Florissant, Missouri; 1 grandchild; 2 sisters, Dorothy Beierman of Jerseyville and Lucille McCarty of Chicago. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm Tuesday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services will be conducted there Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 pm by Rev. R. E. George. Interment will be Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials my be given to the heart fund.
DABBS, Arthur W., born 20-12-1892, Jersey County, Illinois, died 10-11-1980, buried Oak Grove cemetery. Arthur W. Dabbs, 87, a retired farmer-carpenter of Route 3 Jerseyville died November 10, at Jersey Community hospital. The son of the late Linley & Rosetta (Johnson) Dabbs, he was born in Jersey County, December 20, 1892. His survivors are 1 Daughter, Lila Blackorby, and 1 son, Orville Dabbs of Jerseyville; 5 grandchildren and 11 g-g-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, the former Lora Reed, 1 brother and 2 sisters. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society.
DABBS, Bertram, L., born 18-07-1882, Rosedale, Jersey County, Illinois, died 13-05-1965, buried 16-05-1965, Rosedale cemetery. Bertram L. Dabbs, 82 years, 9 months, 25 days, died unexpectedly at 7 am last Thursday at his home near Rosedale. Mr Dabbs was an extensive landowner in the western part of Jersey County, had accompanied his son-in-law, Roy Schallenberg, to see some cattle and his death occurred as he was getting out of the truck after returning home. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, May 16, at 2 pm at the Rosedale cemetery. Mr Dabbs was a son of the late Joshua & Susan (Worthey) Dabbs and was born at Rosedale July 18, 1882. He had spent all of his life in Jersey County where he had engaged in farming. His marriage to Miss Sophia (Miller) Dabbs took place on January 21, 1903. Mr. Dabbs was a member of Full Moon Lodge No. 341, AF & AM, and the Modern Woodman of Grafton and Jersey County Farm Bureau. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Sophia Dabbs, 2 sons, Ernest and Herbert Dabbs, and 1 daughter, Mrs. Roy Schallenberg, all of the Grafton vicinity, 3 grandchildren, and 4 g-grandchildren. 1 son, Albert Leroy Dabbs, preceded him in death.
DABBS, Ella May (Beach), born 20-09-1896, Jersey County, Illinois, died 26-03-1980, buried Oak Grove cemetery. Ella May Dabbs, 83, of 402 Leavett, Jerseyville died at 6:22 pm March 26 at Eldercare Nursing Home in Alton. She was born in Jersey County September 20, 1896, the daughter of Don & Stella (Harmon) Beach. Her husband, Lester Dabbs, died March 23, 1963. She is survived by 2 sons, Sherman, of rural Jerseyville and Dwight of Jacksonville; 1 step-brother, Lavern Davenport of Fieldon; 1 sister, Marie Keehner of Jerseyville; 2 half- sisters, Pearl Mourning and Roberta Christen of Arizona; 10 grandchildren; several g-& g-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6-9 pm Thursday at Jacoby Brothers funeral home where services will be conducted at 1:30 pm Friday. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery.
DABBS, Ernest Bertman, born 11-06-1903, Jersey County, Illinois, died 29-07-1969, buried 01-08-1969, Rosedale cemetery. Ernest Bertman Dabbs, 66 years, 1 months, 18 days, was a well-known farmer of the Grafton vicinity. He died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, July 29. He was dead on arrival at Alton Memorial Hospital. Visitation hours were held at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Services were held there Friday August 1 at 11 am. Interment was in Rosedale cemetery. Mr Dabbs was a son of Mrs. Sophia M. (Miller) Dabbs and the late Bert L. Dabbs and was born in Jersey County on June 11, 1903. He was a member of Jersey County Farm Bureau and formerly served on its Board of Directors. He was a member of Grafton Lodge No. 341 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Consistory and Ainad Temple East St. Louis Shrine. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Adele Dabbs of Grafton, 2 sons, Harold L. of Alton and David D. of Florissant, Missouri, his mother, Mrs. Sophia Dabbs, 1 sister, Mrs. Roy Shallenberg, and 1 brother Herbert S. Dabbs, all of Grafton and 4 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, 1 brother, Albert, and 1 daughter, Mrs. Virginia Campbell.
DABBS, Esther Belle (Plummer), born 26-06-1916, Kansas, died 22-02-1980, buried Otterville cemetery. Esther Belle Dabbs, 63, of Route 3 Jerseyville died at 1 am February 22, at St. Mary Health Center in Richmond Heights, Missouri. Services were held Sunday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Rev R. E. George officiated and burial was in Otterville. Born in Kansas, June 26, 1916, she was a daughter of Joshua & Melvina (Blackorby) Plummer. Her survivors include her husband, Sherman Dabbs whom she married June 27, 1931 in Carrollton; 4 daughters Vera Lee Neal, Jerseyville, Sharon Garber, Springfield, June King, Collinsville, Jean Traub, Fieldon; 2 brothers, Emuel Plumme of Rosedale and Cecil Plummer of Fieldon; 2 sisters, Gladys Stemmler of Fieldon and Viola Stock, East Alton; 10 grandchildren and 5 g-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, Paul and 1 sister, Lillian. Memorials may be given to Leukemia Fund.
DABBS, Everett P., died 28-09-1944, buried Oak Grove cemetery. Private First Class, Everett P. Dabbs, 30 years, 6 months, and 25 days, was killed in action at Germacy Forrest, France, on September 28, 1944. Services for Pfc Dabbs willl be held Sunday afternoon, December 12, at 2 pm at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Rev John L. Flack of Litchfield will conduct the rites and interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 pm Friday. Pcf Dabbs entered the army in June 1941, and was in the communications division of the infantry when he was killed. Prior to entering the armed forces he was employed at the Principia College at Elsah. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Chester Darr of Medora, his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Herb Dabbs of Jerseyville; 2 sisters, Mrs. William Stone of Jerseyville and Miss Geraldine Darr of Medora, and 7 brothers, Floyd, Eldon, Dwight, Clyde, Myron, Loren and Dale Darr of Medora.
DABBS, Frances Matilda (Groppel), born 16-10-1896, Jerseyville, Jersey County, Illinois, died 04-09-1970 buried Oak Grove cemetery. Frances Matilda Dabbs, 73 years, 10 months, 18 days, wife of Arthur W. Dabbs, died at the family home on Rural Route 3, Jerseyville in Otter Creek Township, Friday am September 4, following a period of ill health. Final rites for Mrs. Dabbs were held Sunday afternoon at 2 pm at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville with Rev. W. Louis Purcell, pastor of United Methodist church, officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs Dabbs was a daughter of the late Henry & Catherine (Haushalter) Groppel and was born in Jerseyville October 16, 1896. Surviving her in addition to her husband are 1 daughter, Mrs. Keith (Loretta) Martin of Springfield, 1 step-daughter, Mrs. Harold (Lila) Blackorby of Jerseyville; 1 step-son, Orville Dabbs of Jerseyville; 1 sister, Mrs. Edward Schallenberg of Brighton; 4 half-brothers, John Horn of Waverly, Iowa, George Horn of East St. Louis, Arthur Horn of Detroit, Michigan, and Phillip Horn of Taylor, Michigan; 3 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren, and 3 step-g-grandchildren.
DABBS, Hattie Freda, born 20-01-1877, Saxony, Germany, died 02-1969, buried 11-02-1969, Oak Grove cemetery. Hattie Freda Dabbs, 92, resident of Hartford, died Sunday at 8:05 am. She had resided at Garnet Chateau for the past 5 months. Funeral services were held Tuesday February 11, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Roland Hastie, pastor of First Assembly of God Church, officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Visitation was held at the Funeral Home. Mrs Dabbs, widow of Oscar Dabbs, was born January 20, 1877 in Saxony, Germany. She was a former resident of Jersey County, and had resided in the United States for 89 years. Surviving are 4 Sons, Max Thurm of Alton, Ray and Charles E. Dabbs of Hartford and Samuel Dabbs of Edwardsville; 1 daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Wieneke of Jerseyville, grandchildren and 18 g-grandchildren.
DABBS, Hazel (Waters), born 05-09-1920, Jersey County, Illinois, died 24-02-1954, buried 27-02-1954, Oak Grove cemetery. Hazel (Mickie) Dabbs, 33 years, 5 months, 19 days, died 8:17 am Wednesday February 24, at Alton Memorial Hospital. Mrs Dabbs, (wife of Arthur), had been ill health for some time and about 1 month ago was hospitalized at Henry Ford hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Early Wednesday she was stricken with a heart attack and was moved to the hospital in Gubsers ambulance. The deceased was a daughter of William & Florence (Mourning) Waters, and was born in Jersey County September 5, 1920. In addition to her husband, she is survived by 1 son, Robert Lee Dabbs; her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Waters of Jerseyville and 1 brother, Darrell Waters of Jerseyville. Friends called at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church in Jerseyville Saturday February 27. At 2 pm. Rev J. Dallas Wallace and Rev. Carl C. Moman of Jerseyville will officiate with internment in Oak Grove cemetery.

DABBS, Herbert S., born 26-08-1916, Grafton, Jersey County, Illinois, died 27-04-1979, buried Rosedale cemetery. Herbert S. Dabbs, 62, of Route 1, Grafton, a past member of the Jersey County Board and former Rosedale Township Supervisor, died unexpectedly at his home April 27. Visitation was at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville where Masonic services were conducted Sunday evening. Services were held Monday afternoon at the Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Patterson and Rev. Leona Rd Todd officiating. Born August 26, 1916 at Grafton, he was the son of Sophia (Miller) Dabbs and the late Bert L. Dabbs. He farmed in Rosedale Township. Dabbs was a member of Rosedale United Methodist church, Grafton Masonic Lodge 341, Ainad Shrine, East St. Louis and 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Collinsville and Jersey County Farm Bureau. He is survived by his Wife, Imogene (Crull) Dabbs whom he married August 26, 1937; 1 daughter, Esther Kanallakan of Grafton; 2 grandchildren; his mother; 1 sister Sylva Mae Schallenberg of Grafton. Burial was in Rosedale cemetery. Memorials may be given to United Methodist Church Building Fund and the heart fund.
DABBS, Herbert William, born 18-12-1884, Jersey County, Illinois, died 15-01-1977, buried 19-01-1977, Oak Grove cemetery. Herbert William Dabbs, 92, of Grafton died at 9:15 pm January 15, at Garnet Chateau. He was born December 18, 1884 in Jersey County, a son of Frank & Barbara (Cable) Dabbs and was a retired farmer. Services will be held at 1:30 pm January 19, at Jacoby Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Fred Giraud will officiate and interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery. His survivors are 1 daughter, Mrs. blanche Darr of Medora; 2 sons, Earl and Truman Dabbs of Grafton; 12 grandchildren; 43 g-grandchildren; 13 g-g-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society.
DABBS, Joshua Elias, born 15-03-1841, Grafton, Jersey County, Illinois, died 10-01-1928, buried Rosedale cemetery. Joshua Elias Dabbs, 86, born at Grafton, March 15, 1841 and after an illness of 6 weeks died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Danielson of Alton, on January 10, 1928. When his country had need of him during the Civil War, he enlisted in Company A, 13th US Infantry and saw service at Chickasaw Bayou, Arkansas Post, Steelville, Maynes Bluff, Champions Hill, Black River Bridge, Battle of Chickamauga, Seige of Nashville, Jackson Mill and while carrying the colors at the battle of Vicksburg, May 19, 1863, he was wounded. On July 31, 1865 he received his honorable discharge. On March 24, 1866 he Married Susan Elizabeth Worthey. Many years ago he was converted and joined Otterville Baptist Church. He later joined First Baptist Church in Jerseyville. He was also a member of Lowe Post GAR. Mrs Dabbs died January 9, 1917, and on October 17, 1918 he married Katherine Dabbs of Otterville who survives him. He is survived by 6 children Mrs. Ernest Wedding and Pearl S. Dabbs of Jerseyville, Mrs. James Danielson of Alton, Mrs. Geo. (Cora) Spangle and A. J. Dabbs of Rosedale and Bert L. Dabbs of near Grafton; 16 grandchildren; 11 g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs. Mary J. Houston of Kansas City, Missouri and 1 brother, E. E. Dabbs of Jerseyville. 4 children preceded him in death. The body was brought to the home of Mrs. Wedding of Jerseyville. Rev. Jenkins officiated at services at Rosedale church. Burial was in Rosedale cemetery. The GAR accompanied the body to the cemetery. Patrick Lynch presented a silk flag and marker to the family. Daughters of Veterans also presented a flag.
DABBS, Lester Franklin, born 29-08-1890, Jersey County, Illinois, died 3-1963, buried 16-03-1963, Oak Grove cemetery. Lester Franklin Dabbs, 72 years, 6 months, 24 days, Jerseyville painter, died at 1:15 pm Saturday at St. Luke hospital in St. Louis where he had been a patient for the past 11 weeks. The body was brought to Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville where friends called. Services were held at the Funeral Home Tuesday, March 16, at 1:30 pm with Rev. Cleo Zinn officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr Dabbs was born in Jersey County, August 29, 1890, a son of the late Linly & Rosetta (Johnson) Dabbs. His survivors are his wife, Mrs. Ella Dabbs; 2 sons, Sherman and Dwight Dabbs of Jerseyville; 1 daughter Mrs. Sylvester (Edna) Morrison of Jerseyville; 10 grandchildren; 11 g-g-grandchildren; and 1 brother Arthur Dabbs.
DABBS, Lucille (Wiegand), born 07-02-1900, Jersey County, Illinois, died 24-03-1981, buried 25-03-1981, Oak Grove cemetery. Lucille Wiegand Dabbs, 81, died at her home in Jerseyville March 22, following an extended illness. Mrs Dabbs was born February 7, 1900 in Jersey County, the daughter of Albert & Lena (Weigel) Wiegand. She was a member of the Jerseyville Eastern Star, Royal Neighbors, American Legion Auxiliary and United Methodist church of Jerseyville. She is survived by 2 stepsons, Donald Beaty of Wisconsin, and Robert Beaty of Jerseyville; 8 step grandchildren; 1 step g-great grandchild; and 1 brother, Everett Wiegand of Alton. She was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 1 brother. Visitation was held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The body was moved to United Methodist church at noon Wednesday where visitation was continued until the hour of the funeral. Funeral services were held at 2 pm Wednesday, March 25, at the church, with Rev. R. E. George officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to Methodist church.
DABBS, Marge (Joliff), born Madison County, Illinois, died 04-1982, buried Oak Grove cemetery. Marge Dabbs, 74, of Route 1, died at 10:15 am Monday at Jersey Community hospital. Born in Madison County, daughter of the late John & Mae (Cheeks) Joliff, she married Earl Dabbs on December 24, 1926, in Jerseyville. In addition to her husband, surviving are 1 son, Robert E. of Dow; 4 grandchildren; 5 g-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Hazel Guenther, also of Dow.

Mary Elizabeth Dabbs, 75 years, 5 months, 11 days, wife of Herbert W. Dabbs, died at the family home in the Grafton vicinity at 3 pm Monday, March 1, following a period of ill health. Mrs Dabbs was born in Fieldon, September 21, 1878, a daughter of the late Frederick & Mary (Baldridge) Schmidt. Surviving the deceased are her husband; 1 daughter, Mrs. Chester Darr of Medora; 2 son, Earl and Truman Dabbs of Grafton; 12 grandchildren; 15 g- grandchildren; 1 brother, Fritz Schmidt of Jerseyville and 2 sisters, Mrs. Lena Thomas of Jerseyville and Mrs. Luther Myers of Dow. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, Wednesday, March 3, at 2 pm. Rev John L. Flack of Reno officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.
DABBS, Mary L. (Reister), born 11-02-1865, Elsah, Jersey County, Illinois, died 06-03-1956, buried 09-03-1956, Otterville cemetery. Mary L. Dabbs, whose 91st birthday occurred on February 11 died Tuesday evening, March 6, at 9 pm at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, City Commissioner & Mrs. Henry Horn, in Jerseyville. Mrs Dabbs had suffered a stroke on February 13 and her condition had been critical since that time. Prior to her illness she had enjoyed good health and had been quite active for her age. She was the daughter of the late Jacob & Christina (Vernow) Reister and was born near Elsah on February 11, 1865. She had lived all of her life in Jersey County. Mrs Dabbs was the widow of John W. Dabbs whose death occurred in January 1921. In 1928, Mrs. Dabbs and her daughter, Miss Hattie, moved from their farm to the Horn residence where they have resided since. The nonagenarian was the surviving member of a family of 8 brotherss and sisters. Her only immediate survivors are her 2 daughters, Mrs. Henry Horn and Miss Hattie Dabbs. (Foley) Carter and had at one time been employed as a shoe cutter at the former International Shoe Company in Jerseyville. Mrs Dabbs was a member of First Baptist Church of Jerseyville, Jerseyville Order of Eastern Star No. 656 where she had become a 50 year member in 1968 and the Jerseyville Womans club. She is survived by 1 daughter, Anna Mae Edwards of Jerseyville; 2 half-brothers, C. Pearl Carter of Anderson, Indiana and James C. Carter of Boaz, Kentucky; 1 grandson, Robert W. Abbott of Jerseyville; 2 step- grand Daughters, Catherine L. Heitzig and Joette Knowlson, Jerseyville; 1 step-grandson, Phillip W. Sophia Mae Dabbs, 97, died at 5 am May 1 at Eunice Smith Extended Care Facility in Alton where she had been a resident since October, 1980. She had made her home with her daughter Sylva Mae Schallenberg in Grafton until her recent illness. Services were conducted Sunday afternoon at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Robert Patterson and Rev. Leonard Todd officiated. Interment was in Rosedale cemetery. She was born December 16, 1893 in Grafton, a daughter of the late Charles & Nancy (Matthews) Miller. She was married to Bert L. Dabbs January 21, 1903; he died May 13, 1965. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Schallenberh, 2 grandchildren and 2 g-g-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 sons, 1 granddaughter, 1 grandson, 4 sisters and 1 brother. Memorials may be given to Rosedale United Methodist church, where she was a member and the heart fund.
DABBS, Susan Elizabeth (Worthy), born 23-02-1843, Rome, Kanney? County, Tennessee, died 09-01-1917. Susan Elizabeth (Worthy) Dabbs, 73 years, 10 months, 17 days, passed away, after a long illness, at her home in Rosedale, Illinois, January 9, 1917. She came to Jersey County with her parents in October, 1850, and settled 3 miles northwest of Otterville. She professed faith in Christ in the fall of 1863, and united with Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Otterville but later joined the Baptist Church and remained steadfast unto the end. She united in marriage with J. E. Dabbs March 24, 1866. To this union were born 10 children, 6 of whom survive: Mrs. Elizabeth Wedding and Pearl Dabbs of Jerseyville; Mrs. James Danielson and Andrew J. Dabbs of Rosedale; Mrs. Geo. Spangle of Newbern and Bert L. Dabbs of Quarry Township. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, 3 sons, 3 daughters, 14 grandchildren, 1 sister, – incomplete.

Wesley Monroe Dabbs, 23, a well-known young man of Rosedale Township, died of typhoid fever, and after development of measles, in St. Joseph Hospital, Alton, having had 4 weeks of illness. DAVIS, Milton, born 26-02-1858, Jersey County, Illinois, died 13-06-1942, buried Kansas. Milton Davis, 84 years, 3 months, 17 days, died June 13 at his home in Wichita, Kansas. He had been ill for the past 3 years. Mrs Fred Prough of Jerseyville, cousin received word of the death. Mr Davis was the son of the late Anderson & Juliette (Ritchey) Davis and was born in Jersey County on February 26, 1858. He resided here until 1886 when he went to Cheney, Kansas, where he was engaged in farming for several years. Later he moved to Wichita where he engaged in the rooming house business and was in that business at the time of his death. Surviving are his widow, Cassie (Frey) Davis; 1 daughter, Mrs. Albert Doll, and 2 grandchildren, Norman and Beverly Doll, all of Wichita, and 1 sister, Mrs. Charles Mott of Larned, Kansas. Mr Davis was also a cousin of M. J. Ritchey of the Jerseyville vicinity. Funeral services and burial were in Wichita. Mr & Mrs. Davis, their son in law and daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Albert Doll, and children visited here 3 years ago.

In 1840 when just a boy, he moved to Grafton, Illinois, where his father died in 1850. He lived with his uncle, Mr. T. Daiker, a US Army WWII veteran, was a sprayer for Nugent-Shapanski Orchard Grafton. Born in Cicero, Illinois his parents were the late Henry Daiker and Ethel (Dewitt) Johnson. He married Lenora Ricken Daiker July 23, 1979, in Jerseyville and she survives. Also surviving are 2 step-daughters, Cheri Compton of Grafton, and Kathy Alexander of Wood River; 7 step-grandchildren; 1 step-g-grandchild; 2 Brothers, Raymond and Richard Daiker, both of Grafton; and 1 half brother, Jim Johnson of Godfrey. Yrs, 1 months, 14 days, of Arkansas City, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 20, at 1:30 pm following an operation for appendicitis. He is the son of Mrs. Charlotte Daly of this city. The remains arrived in Jerseyville Monday am, accompanied by David Daly of Davenport, Iowa, brother of the deceased. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon from the home of Mrs. Daly of Hollow Ave. and Jerseyville Lodge No. 394 AF & AM will have charge of the services. Interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery. The deceased is a graduate of Jerseyville high school and after leaving Jerseyville went to Panama where he spent more than 10 years as an engineer for the United States government on the Panama Canal. He was a veteran of WW having spent many month in France in the service of his country. In 1867 she married Patrick Daly, he died in 1907. They were parents of 8 children. Surviving are David Daly of St. Paul, Minnesota, Mrs. Hugo Schroeder of Granite City, Mrs. Wm. McNabb of Hardin, Miss Florence Daly of San Diego, California, and Misses Mary and Delia Daly of Jerseyville. She was preceded in death by her husband and 2 sons, Thomas and Charles. Rev. J. S. Farrill officiated at the services held at the home of the deceased. Burial in Oak Grove.

Delia Daly, 87, a retired legal secretary of Jerseyville, died at 1:40 pm October 28, at Alton Memorial hospital where she had been a patient for 3 weeks. She resided at Greenwood Manor. Graveside rites were held Sunday afternoon at Oak Grove cemetery with Rev. R. E. George officiating. She was born on November 24, 1889 at Litchfield, a daughter of Patrick & Charlotte (Orr) Daly and had lived in Jerseyville most of her life. Her only survivors are 2 nephews, Pat McNabb of Hardin and Dr. David Daly of Dallas, Texas.

DAVIS, Thomas Allen, born 09-07-1837, Calloway County, Missouri, died 13-11-1861, buried Oak Grove cemetery. Dr. Thomas Allen Davis, was born July 9, 1837, in Calloway County Missouri and died in Jerseyville November 13, 1914. On September 4, 1861, he was married to Sallie A. (Broadus) Davis. They were parents of 10 children, 6 preceding them in death. Surviving are Mrs. J. E. Baird and Mrs. L. W. Wells of Jerseyville, Mrs. B. W. Westcott of Benton Harbor, Michigan, and Ira J. Davis of Granite City. He came to Illinois in 1864 and to Jerseyville in 1880, practicing dentistry here for 4 years. His wife died in 1883 and he was again married in 1884 to Mary E. (White) Davis, who with 1 daughter, survives him. They live in Denver, Colorado. The past 26 years of his life were spent in Warsaw, Illinois. His health having failed in April of this year, he retired from active business life and went to his son in Granite City. Later coming to his daughter in Jerseyville, hoping to recuperate and again take up his practice, but his continued illness made this impossible. The funeral services were held Sunday, Rev. W. S. Neely officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. His motto in business was live and let live in the home bear and forbear and his patience and endurance, sweetness and gentleness of spirit during his illness was unusual. He became a member of the Christian church early in life and died true to his faith.
DANIEL. Mr. John Daniel died at his home in Kemper, last Friday, of consumption. He was one of the leading citizens of that place, and a very genial warm-hearted gentleman, and will be mourned by all who were fortunate enough to be acquainted with him. Jersey County Democrat, November 24, 1887.

The family moved to Illinois, May 16, 1851 and lived here from 1854-1858 when he went to Sangamon County where he lived until his death which occurred March 4, 1883, at the home of George Moffett near Waverly. DANIELS, Calvin Q., born 10-05-1848, Chester County, Pennsylvania, died 04-1902. Calvin Q. Daniels, 52, born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, May 10, 1848. He was one of a family of 7 children, all boys, of whom Walter S. Daniels, Granite City, is the only survivor. Came with parents to Winchester, Illinois and later to Jerseyville. He worked at the hardware store of Jason Ames. He then entered hardware store of his brother, the late James S. Daniels. On November 7 1877, he married Beatrice Jeanney, who with their only child Lester, survives. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, Jerseyville and a member of IOOF.
DANIELS, Charles Herbert, born 1905, Jersey County, Illinois, died 12-04-1986, buried Valhalla cemetery. Charles Herbert Daniels, 81, of Seaside, OR, formerly of Jerseyville died at 5:23 pm Saturday April 12, 1986, at seaside Hospital. Daniels was a schoolteacher in Jersey County until 1935, and was then Jersey County Superintendent of Schools for 16 years. He moved to California in 1951, where he was an elementary and junior high school principal, retiring in 1970. He moved to Seaside in 1979. Born in Jersey County, son of the late John & Margaret (McReynolds) Daniels, he married Eloise (Patton) Daniels on November 23, 1932, in Jerseyville. Surviving are his wife; 1 son, Charles Daniels of Springfield, or; 1 brother, George Daniels of Carrollton; nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6-9 at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services will be conducted there at 1 pm Thursday with Rev. Simon A. Simon officiating. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be given to American Parkinson Disease Association.

She had been in ill health since November and a patient for 12 days. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 pm at Staten Chapel in Alton. Rev. Merle Stanton of Jamesport, Missouri, officiated and burial was in Kane cemetery. Mrs Daniels was a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. (Campbell) Roady and was born in Jersey County on September 6, 1893. She attended Fidelity schools and was married at Fidelity on September 6, 1911, to Charles E. Daniels. Mrs Daniels had been a resident of Alton since 1921. The death of her husband occurred in December 1963. Surviving her are 3 sons, Charles, Jr., James and William, and 3 daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Mead, Mrs. Muriel Harshbarger and Mrs. Frank Greenwell, all of Alton; 1 sister, Mrs. Alice Downs of Jerseyville and 1 brother, J. C. Roady of Sullivan, Indiana, 34 grandchildren and 36 g-grandchildren.

Daniels, 74, of Jerseyville died at 7:50 am February 25 at good Samaritan Hospital, Phoenix, Arizona. Daniels worked primarily for the State of Illinois Department of Public Welfare as a caseworker in Greene County and prior to this was a teacher. He was born May 4, 1908 in Jersey County, a son of the late John Andrew Daniels & Margaret (McReynolds) Daniels. Daniels was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Jerseyville, and was a director of Jersey County Historical Society. He is survived by his wife, Roberta (Steinman) Daniels whom he married July 20,1971 at the Presbyterian Church in Carrollton; and 2 brothers George of Carrollton; and Charles of North Seaside, Oregon. His first wife, Hilda Peterson whom he married July 3, 1946, died on October 24, 1968. Services will be conducted at 2 pm March 1 at First Presbyterian Church by Rev. Simon A. Simon with burial in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church.
DANIELS, George Anderson, born 30-05-1900, Jerseyville, Jersey County, Illinois, died 08-05-1991, buried Oak Grove cemetery. George Anderson Daniels, 90, former Carrollton resident, died at 9 pm Wednesday, May 8, 1991 at good Samaritan Home in Quincy. He was a farmer and a charter member of Jersey County Farm Bureau. Memberships included Greene County Farm Bureau, Ansar Shrine Temple in Springfield and Springfield consistory. Born in Jerseyville on May 30, 1900, he was the son of the late John Andrew & Margaret (McReynolds) Daniels Jr. He married Anne M. (Frost) Daniels on June 7, 1928, in Granite City, and she died on February 20, 1978. Surviving are 1 daughter, Hoan McCollom of Quincy; 1 grandson; and 1 g-grandson. Preceding him in death were 1 grandson; and 3 brothers, John Andrew, Charles Herbert and Frank Eugene Daniels. Visitation is from 4-8 pm today at Airsmans-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Rites will be conducted at 7 pm by Stuart Pierson Masonic Lodge of Carrollton, of which he was a member and past master. Services are at 11 am Saturday at the Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Belden officiating. Burial is in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to Carrollton First Baptist Church, where he was a member, or Stuart Pierson Masonic Lodge.
DANIELS, Goldie L. (Isringhausen), born Jersey County, Illinois, died 17-04-1987, buried Kane cemetery. Goldie L. Daniels, 76, died at 3:20 am April 17, 1987, at Wood River Township Hospital. She was born in Jersey County, a daughter of the late Frank & Dean (Levi) Isringhausen. In 1926, she married Ernest M. Daniels, and he died in 1975. Surviving are a daughter, Iva Dean Berry of Kane; 3 sons, bill Daniels of Kane, and John and Norman Daniels, both of Carrollton; 11 grandchildren; 15 g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Emma Daniels of Jerseyville; and 3 brothers, Ernest and William Isringhausen both of Jerseyville, and Leo Isringhausen of Peoria. Visitation was held from 4-9 pm Saturday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm at Kane Baptist Church with Rev. Peter Ely officiating. Burial will be in Kane cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church or Wood River Township Hospital, hospice unit.
DANIELS, Harry S., born 1866, died 1921. Added information. – Charles Robinson of Springfield a very warm friend of the deceased, who was in Texas at the time he heard of the death, made a record trip from there to be here in time for the funeral, arriving at the hour set. He missed the Jerseyville morning train at St. Louis, and brought here by auto by Paul Reintges. Mr Daniels well known to everybody in Jersey County, accidentally shot himself while hunting on the farm of his brother-in-law, James Powel, and the wound proved fatal. No particulars as we go to press, except that he was found dead in a cornfield where he had been hunting quail, with a gunshot wound in the abdomen just below the heart. It is a great loss to his family and the whole community. Mr Daniels and Robert Bowen had gone to the Powel farm hunting. They separated about 11 am and Bob did not see his companion any more. Bob went to dinner at Powels at noon, but Mr. Daniels did not come. They waited dinner for a long time and finally, Mr. Daniels not appearing a search was instituted. His body was discovered by Stewart Powel about 3 pm, lying in a corn field where probably his shot gun had been discharged when he stumbled. Dr R. Gledhill was called, and a coroners inquest is now being conducted at the Powel home. Of course no one will ever know just how the accident that caused the death of Harry S. Daniels happened as he was alone and killed instantly but, after listening to the evidence presented at the coroners inquest, we think the following a correct solution. Mr Daniels had fired one shot at a rabbit and as all hunters do extracted the fired shell by breaking the gun as it was found on the ground near the body, and preceded to put in another shell. Both barrels of the gun had been carried at full cock and the right hand barrel had been fired, leaving the left hand barrel loaded and cocked. Taking the gun in his left hand he lowered it to the ground, as have hundreds of other hunters, intending to put in another shell in the right hand barrel and as the gun struck the ground the muzzle came just above the left hip, as he was a short man, and the jar of the gun on the ground discharged the left hand barrel which was against his body making a hole in his left side in front and the charge ranging upward and into the right side causing instant death. The first shot was heard at the house about 2 hours before he was found but the second shot was not heard for it was silenced by being close to the body as the hole showed, the charge passing through the bottom part of his left hand vest pocket. To prove this theory there was the imprint of the breach of the gun of the ground where the body was found, which was caused by the recoil of the gun when it was discharged. The gun was an old one and when cocked shows that the slightest jar will throw the hammer as it is easy on the trigger. The shell that caused his death was still in the left hand barrel and the other one taken from the ground near the body, had been shot from the right hand barrel. The coroners jury was composed of Dr. H. R. Gledhill, Rev. Joseph Jenkins, Asa Beckner, Thomas Costello, Mike Costello and Harry Rice, returned a verdict of accidental death, in accordance with the facts shown above.
DANIELS, Harry S., born 14-04-1866, Jerseyville, Jersey County, Illinois, died 12-07-1892, buried Oak Grove cemetery. Harry S. Daniels, died by reason of an accidental shooting of the farm of James P. Powel, 3 miles northwest of Jerseyville, July 12, 1892. He was always a booster for this city and his country and we know of no man who had a greater number of loyal, true friends than he, and it s just such just men as he to whom Rev. Dunn of the ME Church referred in his talk at the Advertising Club banquet when he stated that men whose aim in life was to further the business and best interests of the community were men whose loss was always deeply felt and mourned. Funeral services were held from the Baptist Church Tuesday. The services conducted by the pastor Rev. R. B. Favoright assisted by Rev. H. S. Farrill and Rev. Joseph Jenkins, was one of the large st funeral ever held in Jerseyville and was really a concourse of friends who gathered to do him honor, instead of as is often the case, people going through curiosity. The services were short and the Masonic Order took charge, P. M Hamilton, past master, delivering the funeral oration. Twenty members of the Hugh Depayne Commandery Knights Templar, of Carrollton, were in attendance, and about 100 members of the Masonic Lodge of this city attended in a body. The remains were placed in the crypt at the mausoleum which Mr. Daniels had chosen at the time the mausoleum was built, he being one of the subscribers to the same. Harry S. Daniels was born in Jerseyville, April 14, 1866, and was the son of James S. & Emily (Jackson) Daniels, the former of whom was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, and the latter of whom was born in Missouri. James S. Daniels came to Jerseyville just before the Civil War, in which he took part in an Illinois Volunteer Regiment. In 1852 he embarked in the hardware business under the name of James S. Daniels, continuing alone until 1889, when his son, the subject of this sketch, was taken into partnership under the firm name of J. S. Daniels & Son, which continued until 1892, the date of the death of J. S. Daniels being July 12, 1892. The son afterward continued the business until 1914 when it was consolidated with other business and the Jersey Mercantile Company, Inc., of which Mr. Daniels was president. In July 1819, he severed his connection with the Jersey Mercantile Company and formed a partnership in the grain business with Herbert G. Neely, under the name of Dankels & Neely Elevator Company which business he remained in until about a year ago, when owing to ill health and an injury received while dumping a load of corn he retired and had not fully recovered up to the time of this fatal accident. Mr Daniels was one of those public spirited men who was always willing to go ahead for everything that was good and for the betterment of mankind. He was very active in Red Cross work during the war and in other matters pertaining to the best interests of the community. He was president of the Jerseyville Grade School Board for many years and was acting as such at the time of his death. At one time he was City Treasurer and a member of that council for 15 years, and served one term as Mayor. He was a member of the Baptist Church and a trustee of that organization he was a member of the Modern Woodman and a 2nd Degree Mason and master of Jerseyville Lodge No. 394 – – – terms, and was a member of the P O E. In June Mr. Daniels was united in marriage to Miss Castellberry of Springfield and 2 children Stewart, now in business in Minneapolis , and Elizabeth, a student at Jersey Township high school, were the fruits of this marriage. On September 2, 1916, his wife died, and on January 8, 1918, he married Mrs. Flora Ballard, who came from La Plata, Missouri and was instructor in music at JTHS. Mrs Ballard had one son Louis Ballard, a student of University of Illinois at Champaign. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. J. S. Daniels and 2 aunts, Miss Mary Jackson and Mrs. Kate Douglass, 1 uncle George H. Jackson, 2 sisters, Emily now the wife of James P. Powel, and Flora, the wife of J. C. Reintges of Granite City. One of the sad things of the tragedy was that Mrs. Daniels, who teaches English at JTHS was attending a teachers meeting at Champaign and did not arrive home until 9 pm Saturday evening, when she was met with the sad news, and of course, it was a terrible shock to her. Daniels, 79, of East Alton, a former resident of this area, died at 1:30 pm April 14 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Services were conducted at Smith Funeral Home in Bethalto by Rev. E. L. Crite. Burial was in Roselawn Memory Gardens. A Pike County native, he formerly worked at Owens-Illinois Glass Company for 41 years. His parents Were Thomas & Carrie Daniels. His survivors are his wife, Deliah (Mozier) Daniels whom he married November 10, 1928 in East Alton; 1 sister, Treva Kessinger of Winchester and 1 half sister, Katherine Bond of Quincy. Final rites were held Friday afternoon May 17, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where visitation was held. Rev. Vale Walkington officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. A laborer, he was born January 7, 1891 in Jersey County, a son of John & Rose (Guilander) Daniels. He is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. William (Dorothy) Assman of Jerseyville, and 1 half-sister, Mrs. Nellie Birkenmeyer, also of Jerseyville. 1 brother and 2 sisters preceded him in death.
DANIELS, J. D., died 07-189?. J. D. Daniels, after a life of usefulness abounding in good deeds was laid to rest in the silent city. It is meet and fitting that all the honors that mortal man could bestow, were allowed him. At 10 am Thursday the Uniformed Commander of Alton, followed by Master Masons from Fieldon, Kane, Brighton, Grafton, Jerseyville and Medora and Knights Templar from Alton, Carrollton, Greenfield and Jerseyville. DANIELS, J. S., born 10-02-1835, Chester County, Pennsylvania, died 1892. Hon. J. S. Daniels, 87, was born in Chester County Pennsylvania, February 10, 1835 and came to Jerseyville in 1854. He was a farmer and in 1861 enlisted in Company G. 122nd Illinois Infantry, mustered out in 1865. Returned to Jerseyville and was elected Marshall, and in 1891 was elected Mayor. He did much to encourage and build up beneficial enterprises and had a generous hand with the poor. He was the prime mover in building the Water Works. DANIELS, Joe M., born 1938, Johnsonville, Tennessee, died 07-02-1988, buried Oak Grove cemetery. Joe M. Daniel, 56, died at 10:45 am Sunday February 7, 1988, at Alton Memorial Hospital. Daniel served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict and was employed by Ford Motor Company of hazelwood, Missouri, for 21 years. Born in Johnsonville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Roy & Flora (McCaleb) Daniel. He married Jacquelyne Jackie (Long) Daniel on July 17, 1955, in Benton, Missouri. Surviving are his wife; 1 Son Rick Daniel of Collinsville; 1 daughter, Laura Piel of Jerseyville; 1 grandchild; 1 brother, C. R. Daniel of Millersville, Missouri; and 5 Sisters, Oneita Ziegler of Benton, Missouri, Beulah McClain of Grafton, Jane Pattengill of Sikeston, Missouri, Bessie Buck of Gordonville, Missouri, and Gayla Volz of Oak Ridge, Missouri. Visitation was from 5-9 pm at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services were conducted at 11 am Tuesday with Rev. Ronald Bottens officiating. Graveside services will be conducted by American Legion Post 492 at Oak Grove cemetery.

He was the son of John a & Phoebe (Moffett) Daniels, the third of 8 children. Their father died April 9, 1891. His mother, 1 sister, Mrs. Emma E. Harding, Hobart, Oklahoma; 2 brothers, Herbert A, of Kelleyville, Oklahoma, and Charles C, of Canadian, Texas. At age 15, he came to Jersey County with his parents. He attended the little red brick and other Jersey County schools. He was a careful reader of current events and was interested in his community. He joined the Methodist church, Rev. Van Trees. He later joined the Presbyterian church in 1903, Rev. Klene. Oct 8, 1905 (1885?), he married Laura E. (Milton) Daniels. They were parents of 5 children, 3 surviving, Louis W, Ray W, and Lillian V. Laura died April 20, 1896. On May 20, 1898 he married Maggie (McReynolds) Daniels. Parents of 4 children George A, John A, Charles H. and Frank E. He has lived on a farm northeast of Jerseyville for many years.

Daniels, died at her home, 4 miles northeast of Jerseyville, Monday April 20, 1896. Mrs Daniels was a graduate of Jerseyville high school, a faithful member of the Methodist church of this city, and loved by all who knew her. The funeral services take place at 2:30 this afternoon at the residence. Rev. N. Crow will officiate interment takes place in Keller cemetery.

Burial was in St. Francis cemetery. She was born in Fidelity Township November 23, 1894, a daughter of William & Mary (Henrion) Bunse. Her husband was the late Walker Daniels whom she married October 21, 1914. Mrs Daniels was a retired employee from the former International Shoe Company here. She is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. Anna Grace Blaeser of Jerseyville; 1 son Wayne G. Daniels of East Alton; 2 sisters, Mrs. Effie Cope of Jerseyville and Mrs. Eva Gilleland of Eldred. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where rosary was recited at 7 pm Monday.

A former resident of Jersey County, she died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. B. Harding, in Hobart, Oklahoma. Rev. W. H. He had made an attempt to close the air cock between two of the inter-urban freight cars and was badly mangled. DANIELS, Stewart D., born 15-01-1898, Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois, died 17-04-1975, buried Roselawn cemetery. (champaign?) Stewart D. Daniels, 77, of Champaign, formerly of Jerseyville, died on April 17, having been in a coma since suffering a stroke on March 30. A graduate of Jersey Township high school, he was a cousin of Frank Daniels of Jerseyville, Charles Daniels of Escondido, California, and George Daniels of Carrollton. Daniels was graduated from the University of Illinois, College of Commerce, in 1921, and had managed offices of the Warner System of Fraternity Management at the Universities of Illinois and Minnesota. Daniels was chosen Alpha Tau Omegas Excutive Secretary (U of I) after 40 years of duties and took on duties as director of the ato foundation (scholarship program) until 1972. In 1971 he was presented the distinguished service award of the fraternity exs assn, becoming the third recipient of that honor. Daniels had received the nat nter fraternity confrence gold medal in 1970. He was organizer and charter member of the University Quarterback Club, the first ui board of fraternity affairs. Born in Springfield, January 15, 1898, he was the son of the Late Harry & Castel (Derry) Daniels, and is survived by his widow Edna; son Stewart D. Daniels Jr., Kirkwood, Missouri; and daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Curtis of Ketchum, Idaho; 5 grandchildren; 1 g-grandchild. Final rites were held at Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church in Champaign with burial in Roselawn cemetery.

DANNEL, Mary A. (Palmer), born 22-09-1825, Weyhbridge, Vermont, died 19-08-1897. Mary A. Dannel, 71, died at home in Kemper, Illinois August 19, 1897. Born at Weyhbridge, Vermont September 22, 1825. She came to Illinois in 1830 with her parents, Wm. & Mary Palmer, settling in Greene County. The family move to Jersey County near Kemper. She married John C. Dannel, March 28, 1847, who died 10 years ago. They were parents of 7 children, 2 preceding her to the other shore. She was a devoted and loving mother and wife. She also became the mother of orphan children. Surviving are 1 brother, Wm. G. Palmer, 2 Sisters, Martha Palmer and Mrs. Harriett S. Stow, 2 sons, J. Frand, and Chas O. Dannell; 3 daughters, Mrs. Laura Dodge, Mrs. Jessie Leavitt and Mrs. Anna D. Challacombe. All live near her except Mrs. Leavitt who lives in austin, Illinois. Funeral from home Sunday at 10 am. DARR, Edgar Robert born 1895, Greene County, Illinois, died 1972, buried Oak Grove cemetery. Edgar Robert Darr, 77 years, 4 months, 18 days, of Hawbrook, Jerseyville, died at 12:30 am Friday at Jersey Community hospital, where he had been admitted for treatment the day before. He had been in ill health for some time. Funeral services for Mr. Darr were held at 2 pm Sunday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Francis Varble officiated with burial in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr Darr, a son of the late Robert & Minnie (Williams) Darr, was born in Greene County. He was a veteran of WW – incomplete.

Alice Iverna Darbey, 25, was born March 1, 1897, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Peter Gleespin, at the Gleespin home 5 miles south of Jerseyville. She was the elder of 2 daughters and their happy childhood was spent of the farm. When the daughters were budding into womanhood, the Gleespin family moved to Oklahoma City where they remained for 5 years. It was there Iverna, met and fell in love with Clarence N. Darbey. They plighted their troth and after WWI was ended, Mr. Darbey, who had served 7 years in the reg US Army. Meanwhile the Gleespin family moved back to Jersey County, and Mr. Darbey came to Jersey County to claim his bride and on July 22, 1920 they were united in marriage. They spent their brief married life on the family farm south of Jerseyville. To this union, 1 child, Francis Lamar, was born on April 25, 1922, the babe lived only a brief few minutes and was buried with his mother, who died Tuesday, April 25, 1922, at 11:40 am. Funeral services for both were held from St. Francis Xavier church, Thursday, April 27, at 9:30 am. High mass was celebrated, Rev. J. J. Clancy celebrant. Interment was in St. Francis cemetery. She leaves to mourn her husband, Clarence, her father and mother Mr. & Mrs. Peter F. Gleespin, and 1 sister, Mrs. Harry Springman.

DARBY, Charlotte (Woodruff), born 23-08-1803, Scotch Plains, Union County, New Jersey, died 08-03-1884. Charlotte Darby, 81, died at the home of John Fox, March 8. She was the widow of Wm. Darby. The earth lost and heaven received one of the most excellent of human spirits. Her maiden name was Woodruff and she was born in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, August 23, 1803. She married Wm. Darby March 16, 1856 and they moved to the farm where he died February 1873. She being his second wife, she became like a real mother to his children. Rev. Haegle officiated at rites.
DARBY, Henrietta (Whitehead), born 16-10-1831, Somerset County, New Jersey, died 1904. Henrietta Darby, 73, daughter of Robert & Margaret (Vandervoort) Whitehead, died recently. She was born October 16, 1831 in Somerset County, New Jersey and came with her parents to Jersey County. They settled near Jerseyville. She married John C. Darby October 4, 1853. They were parents of 4 daughters, 1 died in childhood; 2 live here, Mrs. John W. Lowe and Mrs. D. P. Prichett and Mrs. Harry Whitenack Lives in Somerville, New Jersey; 2 brothers and 3 sisters also survive. Funeral by her brother-in-law Rev. George Dungan of Springfield and was held from the home of Mrs. Prichett.

DARBY, John C., born 11-1829, Essex, New Jersey, died 1895, buried Oak Grove cemetery. John C. Darby, 66, born in Essex County, New Jersey in November 1829. He came to Illinois in 1850 with his parents and worked as a clerk in a general store. In 1852 he became associated with a B. Morean in mercantile business, then the grocery business with J. E. Sanford. With Geo. Hodgkin he bought out the business of Mrs. Sanford. Later the business was sold to Marston & Nail. In 1873 he started a new business on State St. In 1853 he married Henrietta (Whitehead) Darby. Parents of 4 children, 1 dying at age 7. He is said to have been first telegraph operator in Jersey County. Funeral of Mr. Darby took place under direction of IOOF Lodge and was held at the Presbyterian Church, Rev. Ira C. Tyson officiating and burial in Oak Grove cemetery.

DARE, Isaiah, born 07-03-1841, Cumberland County, New Jersey, died 16-11-1901, buried Oak Grove cemetery. Isaiah Dare, 60, died, November 16, 1901, at his home in Jerseyville. Rev. C. B. Besse officiated at services held from Mr. Dares home. Burial in Oak Grove cemetery. He was born in Cumberland County, New Jersey, March 7, 1841, a son of George R. & Rebecca Dare and one of 11 children. Came to Carrollton, Greene County in 1850. Then he moved to Grafton, Illinois and to St. Louis, back to Jersey County 25 years ago. He married Mrs. Mozella (Monk) Dare and they were parents of 2 children. Mrs Geo. Mowen in Granite City and Miss Edith Dare, who lived with her mother. Providence Baptist Church in Greene County.
DARE, James, born 11-05-1830, Philadelpha, Pennsylvania, died 15-07-1907. James Dare, 77, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, May 11, 1830, died near Grafton on July 15, 1907. He was the son of James & Rebecca (Richey) Dare and was the third of a family of 11 children, 3 sisters and 8 brothers. Those remaining are Oliver Dare of this place (jville-grafton?) and Mrs. Sallie D. Barnett and Levi Dare of Bridgeton, New Jersey. At an early age the family moved to Bridgetown, New Jersey, then to Greene County Illinois. In 1858, they bought a farm in Calhoun County, 1 mile from Deer Plain Ferry. While living there he married Mrs. Mary D. Pruitt, November 22, 1865. She died December 22, 1866. In 1873 he moved to Jersey County. He was brought up a Christian, joined the Baptist Church and later the Methodist church. Uncle Jims life has always been exemplified by kindness and usefulness. The hungry never left his door unfed, nor the wayfarer unsheltered. Though not blessed with a family of his own, he loved and the cared for children. Those who have been of his immediate household are the four children of his brother George Dare, Mary, widow of G. a Hull, of Edgar, Nebraska, Henry J. Dare of Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Rebecca, wife of F. M. Lynn, of Otterville and George Dare Jr. who died at age 11. Besides these are his step-daughter, Charity Appler, who has had a home with him since the death of her mother, and Frank Bowers whom he reared from babyhood. Funeral by Rev. W. H. Calvert in Plainview church.

She was born in Jersey County October 18, 1827 and married Robert Darlington in 1844. She belonged to Kane Baptist Church and then Jerseyville. From there she moved to St. Louis and belonged to Lafayette Baptist Church. Her husband and 1 daughter, Mrs. Kate M. Cory, survive. She was preceded in death by 2 infant children. Rev. Tyson officiated at the service from Jerseyville Baptist Church.

Family later lived in St. Louis where Mr. Cox owned property, now the site of St. Louis court house. She married Samuel Darlington, pioneer of McClusky area, 75 years ago. He died 25 years ago. She was a member of East Newbern Methodist church. She leaves 2 daughters, Miss Nettie, and Mrs. R. W. Greene of Kane; 5 grandchildren; and 5 g-grandchildren.

Anna Darnell, 76, of Dow died Wednesday, February 23, at a local nursing home following an extended period of ill health. Her condition had been serious the past 6 weeks. Mrs Darnell was born in Jersey County, on February 12, 1879, and had resided in the Dow vicinity nearly all of her life. She was a member of Assembly of God church. The deceased is survived by 4 sons, Charles of Alton, George F. and Ernest C. of Cottage Hills, and Otis of Cuba, Missouri; 1 daughter, Mrs. Emma Fessler of Wood River; 2 sisters, Mrs. Mary Sheff of Alton and Mrs. Lelia Brown of Tampa, Florida; 4 brothers, George, Harry, and John Farmer all of Jerseyville, and Willian Denton of Alton; 19 grandchildren, 15 g-grandchildren. Friends called at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Services were held there Friday at 2 pm and burial was in Newbern cemetery.
DARNELL, Charles R., born 1941, Newbern, Jersey County, Illinois, died 12-05-1984. Charles R. Darnell, 43, of Douglasville, Georgia, died Saturday evening, May 12 at Cobb General Hospital in Austell, Georgia. He had been Illinois since 1975. Arrangements were in charge of Whitley Mortuary in Douglasville, Georgia and services were conducted at Southern Baptist Church in Douglasville, Georgia. He was born in Newbern, son of Charles H. Darnell of Kampsville and the late Dorothy (Hegger) Darnell. He was raised in Alton and joined the army as an MP in 1958. He had been stationed at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, Korea, Fort Bliss, Texas and France. He left the service in 1965 and married Louise (Roberts) Darnell in 1966. He is survived by his father, his wife Louise; 2 sons, Troy of Chatanooga, Tennessee, and Charles Brett at home; 1 brother, George J. of Bloomington; 4 sisters, Joan Borror and Patricia Burger, both of Alton, Charlotte Keary of Kampsville and Dorothy Zerges of St. Louis.

DARR, Aaron Lee, born 1948, died 12-03-1970, buried Elsah cemetery. Pfc Aaron Darr, 22, was honored with military service at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville on Wednesday afternoon. Rev. W. O. Reinhardt of Alton officiated at the services and burial was in Elsah cemetery. Memorials may be given to the easter seas soc. Pfc Darr of Elsah died in an aircraft crash in Vietnam on March 12. Word that the young serviceman was missing in action was received by his mother, Mrs. Glenn O. Darr of Elsah on Tuesday, March 17, and the following evening confirmation of his death was delivered to the Darr home by army personnel. Pfc. Darr, was a graduate of Jersey Community High School, and was employed by Shell Oil Company before his entry into military service in July, 1969. He had been in Vietnam since December 8 of last year. In the last letter received from the infantryman he told his family that he was near Saigon, that there were no Viet Cong around, and he was doing alright. The death message said that he died in an aircraft crash, leading to the belief that the fatal accident occurred as he was being transported to a different base. His survivors in addition to his mother are 4 Brothers, Delby of Elsah, Glenn O, Jr., of Godfrey, William, who has been in military service for 4 months and is presently stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Gregory of Elsah. The death of his father occurred last Nov.

They had 8 children; 6 boys and 2 girls. One son preceded them in death and the mother departed this life June 28, 1906. On January 31, 1910 he married Mrs. Ida Richey, who died May 31, 1911. Born September 26, 1908 in Jersey County, he was the son of Matthew & Abbie (Delby) Darr. In 1953 Mr. Darr had lost his sight within a month following an accident at his place of employment in an acid explosion. A few years later in 1960, he helped found the Elsah Volunteer Emergency Corps, an organization formed mainly to minimize accidents from river traffic. DARR, Harry V., born 06-04-1876, Jerseyville, Jersey County, Illinois, died 13-08-1953. Harry V. Darr, 78 years, 4 months, 7 days, died August 13 at Mena, Arkansas, following a prolonged illness. Mr Darr was a son of the late Jackson & Josephine (Russell) Darr and was born April 6, 1876, at Jerseyville. He grew to manhood near the place of his birth and on March 25, 1908 was married to Cora (Fitzgibbons) Darr, at Clatyon, Missouri. Mr Darr was an actor by profession and worked with many shows. He had been associated with show business since he was 18 years old. He later acquired his own show in connection with N. V. Gray and the company was known as the Darr-Gray Stock Company and for many summers played a weeks engagement in Jerseyville. Later Mr. Darr served as advance man for the Kelly Miller Circus for 10 years. He went to Mena about 14 years ago. He is survived by his wife, Cora Darr of Mena, 1 son Jack Darr of Mena, 1 granddaughter and 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter and 1 sister, Mrs. Walter Malotte of Jerseyville whose death occurred July 24.
DARR, Hayden E., born 1909, Greene County, Illinois, died 19-02-1987, buried Kane cemetery. Hayden E. Darr, 78, was pronounced dead at his home Thursday, February 19, 1987, at his residence. He was born in Greene County, a son of the late William & Elizabeth (Stone) Darr. In 1927, in Carrollton, he married Mary (Weber) Darr she died in 1949. DARR, Ira E., born 01-06-1899, Jersey County, Illinois, died 19-05-1981, buried St. Francis cemetery. Ira E. Darr, 81, of sheridan St., Jerseyville died May 19 at Jersey Community hospital. Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements and the rosary was recited Wednesday evening. Funeral mass was celebrated Thursday am by Revs William Hembrow and John P. Day at Holy Ghost church. Burial was in St. Francis cemetery. His wife, Mary Marie (Bunse) Darr, died December 17, 1970. He was born in Jersey County June 1, 1899, a son of Edwin & Mary (Greene) Darr and was an ironer at International Shoe Company of Jerseyville. Mrs Darr was born in Jersey County, January 1, 1872. She is survived by 1 Grandson, Ray Brickey, Jr., of Jerseyville; 2 sisters, Mrs. Henry Farmer and Mrs. Lou Crawfsord of Alton, and 2 g-grandsons. DARR, Kenneth E., born 1928, Kane, Greene County, Illinois, died 08-03-1991, buried Kane cemetery. Kenneth E. Darr, 63, died unexpectedly at 5:35 am Friday, March 8, 1991, at Jersey Community hospital. He had owned and operated Darr Garage in Kane since 1950 and was a US Navy veteran of WWII. Memberships included Kane Masonic Lodge 197 and Kane American Legion. Born in Kane, he was the son of the late Orville & Anna (Gardiner) Darr. He married Doris E. (Crotchett) Darr on October 30, 1947 in Kane, she survives. Also surviving are 1 son Alan Darr of Rosewood heights; 2 grandchildren; 1 sister, Keota Crane of Kane; and 1 brother, Keith Darr of Kane. Leo Darr, 91, of Carrollton, died at 8:45 am Sunday, May 11, at Reisch Memorial home in Carrollton, where he resided. He was a retired farmer, born in Jersey County, son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Edward Darr. He married Dorthea (Freer) on January 1, 1916, and she died April 15, 1974. Nieces and nephews survive. He retired December 5, 1981. His Parents, Amil a & Rachel (Bunzy? Bunse) Darr, preceded him in death. He was born in Jerseyville and married Mary E. (Camerer) Darr there on May 10, 1941. She died March 25, 1979. Surviving are a son, Robert Joseph Darr of Mexa, AZ; 3 grandchildren; and 1 sister, Twila Faye Bizallion of Jerseyville. DARR. Virgil L. Darr, 65, formerly of N. Alton, died at 12:46 pm Saturday December 12, 1987, at Jersey Community hospital. Darr was a teamster with Shell Oil Company before his retirement March 31, 1983. He was born in Dow, son of the late Orville & Margaret (Elfgen) Darr. On May 23, 1958, in Alton he married Emily (Davis) Darr and she survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Sue Garrison of Bunker Hill; 3 sons, Terry Davis of Collinsville, Jim Darr of East Alton and Staff Sgt Tim Darr stationed with the United States Air Force in Upper Heyford, England; 9 grandchildren; 1 sister, Mary Cerutti of Medora; 3 brothers, Bert Darr of Godfrey, Orville Sonny Darr of Bethalto and C. Robert Darr of East Alton. Visitation will be from 5-9 pm Tuesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton, where services will be conducted at 1 pm Wednesday by Rev. George H. Funeral services for the Carrollton resident were held at Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton, with Rev. Jack Brown, pastor of Kane Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Carrollton city cemetery. Mr Darr, son of the late Mr. & Mrs. William Darr, Sr., was born in Greene County. He was a retired casting operator for Olin Mathieson Corporation and had been a resident of Carrollton the past 22 years. At one time he made his home in the Kane area. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church and Westerner Club. Surviving Mr. Darr are his wife, Ica (Weber) Darr; 2 sons, John of Carrollton and Loyal of Denver, Colorado; 3 grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Hayden and Daniel Darr, both of Kane.
DASHWOOD. Died 11-05-1888. E O. Dashwood, 56, died May 11. Being in ill health, he had gone to England last summer, hoping a doctor there could give him relief; he came home and was again ill. Born in Gloucester, England, he followed the sea most of his life until 15 years ago when he came to America and settled in Jersey County. He leaves his widow and no other relative in this country. Rev. House assisted by Rev. Rice officiated at the funeral held at Paradise church. Burial in Paradise cemetery.
DAUBMAN. Died 03-1917. Sophie Daubman, 80, died recently. Born Sophie Steiner, in Oberstenfeld, Wirtenberg, Germany in 1836. She came to the United States in 1872 and married George Daubman in December 1874 and they moved to their present home in 1875. She leaves 2 sons and 3 daughters. She belonged to the German Evangelical Church. Rev. Fahnestock and Rev. Strange officiated at the service held in East Newbern church. Burial in East Newbern cemetery.
DAUBMAN. Died 05-1985. William Earl Eaubman, 83, of Godfrey, died at 8:11 am today at St. Joseph Hospital. He was employed as a master mechanic for American Smelting and Refining. He retired in 1965 after 38 years service. Born in Grafton, the son of the late William F. & Estella (Howell) Daubman, he married Nina (Crull) on November 15, 1924 in Edwardsville. Surviving, besides his wife, are 1 daughter, Fern Hansell of Wood River. There was no visitation. Private funeral services were conducted at Gent Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Edelman officiating. Burial was in Upper Alton cemetery. Memorials may be given to Elm St. Presbyterian Church.
DAUM. Died 13-04-1974. Winfred L. (Dieter) Daum, former Jersey County resident died in Zanesville, OH, April 13. Funeral services and burial were there. Born in Wrightsville, he spent his early years in Jersey County and attended school. He married Ruth (Busick) Daum. Mr Daum was a cousin of Ada Keehner of Jerseyville.
DAVENPORT. Died 10-1971. Courtney Otto Davenport, 55 years, 9 months, 25 days, of Cleveland St., Jerseyville, was dead on arrival at Jersey Community hospital at 11 am Tuesday. His health had been impaired for sometime and he had been hospitalized on different occasions. Rev. William Turner will officiate at funeral services to be held at 3 pm Thursday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial will be in Kane cemetery. Mr Davenport, a son of Mrs. Lydia Davenport of Kane and the late Charles Davenport, was born in Greene County, December 10, 1915. He was employed as a truck driver for Widman Excavating Company and was a WWII veteran. Surviving are his wife, Nellie Davenport; 1 step daughter, Mrs. George (Barbara) Freand of Jerseyville; 4 step grandchildren; his mother; 2 sisters, Mrs. Edna Spencer of Cottage Hills and Mrs. Lillie McAdams of Carrollton. He was preceded in death by his father and 2 brothers, Harold and Floyd.
DAVENPORT. Died 04-07-1898. Frederick S. Davenport, 70, died at his home July 4, 1898. Born in Nottingham, England, February 17, 1828. When 6 years old his parents moved to France, residing 2 years at Calais, 3 years, Caen and 9 years at Rouen where he was educated. At age 20 he returned to England where he served a wealthy shipbuilding firm as machinist and draughtman until 1857, making engineering a study. In 1857 he came to America and soon after to Jerseyville where his brother lived. He worked in machinery and mills in various places and soon became an inventor of note, inventing some fifteen items from which he realized handsomely. In 1864, he took out his first patent of a riding gang plow. He constructed 3 telescopes, and chemical, philosophicas apparatus, largely the work of his own hands extensive collection of curios. He married Mary (Lockley) Davenport, July 15, 1847 in London England. He leaves 1 daughter, Ada, his wife having died some years ago. His wife and 1 child preceded him in death. Funeral from the home. He was not a member of any church. He was a deep thinker and contributed several articles to Democrat.
DAVENPORT. Died 01-01-1980. John Otto Davenport Sr., 86, formerly of Jerseyville died January 1, at Boyd Memorial hospital in Carrollton. He died on the date of his 65th anniversary. He and Verna (Eastham) Davenport were married January 1, 1915 in Carrollton. Services were conducted Thursday afternoon from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. James Pepper and Rev. Warren Brown officiated with burial in Jalappa cemetery near Kane. Born June 15, 1893 in Otterville, he was the son of the late John W. & Mary Ellen (Hill) Davenport. He worked at the Jerseyville Ice Plant for 40 years. Davenport was a member of Bible Baptist Church and Modern Woodman of America. Mr & Mrs. Davenport had resided at Mt. Gilead Shelter Care Home near Carrollton for about a month. His survivors are his wife; 2 daughters, Mrs. Mary Helen McHenry, Springfield and Mrs. Jane Ufer of Eldred; 3 sons, John Otto Jr., Carlinville, Wilbur S, Orlando, Florida, and Donald of Jacksonville, Illlinois; 10 grandchildren; 8 g-grandchildren. 2 children, 3 sisters and 4 brothers preceded him in death. Born in Goodland, Indiana, a daughter of the late William C. & Anna Mabell (Clairmont) Tice. She was a school teacher in the Unit 100 School District for 18 years, retiring in 1958. She married Laverne Davenport on February 11, 1929 in Jerseyville. He preceded her in death on January 5, 1981. Surviving are 5 Sons, Leslie Laverne and Gary Leon, both of Jerseyville, Donald Ray of Beckenmeyer, Herbert Lee of Macon, GA and James David of Fieldon; 1 daughter, Marilyn Kay Pruitt of Fieldon; 12 grandchildren; 11 g-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Clarence Tice of Anderson, IN.

DAVENPORT. Died 1892. Mary Davenport, 68, wife of F. S. Davenport, was born in London, England, on April 26, 1824. Her maiden name was Lockley. They were married according to the rites and ceremonies of established Church of England, July 15, 1847 at Christ Church, Black Friars Road, London, England. They moved west to France and in 1857 they came to Jerseyville, Illinois. Mother of 2 children, 1 dying in infancy. Her husband and 1 daughter, Ada, survive.
DAVENPORT. Died 01-11-1953. Stella Davenport, 76 years, 1 months, 9 days, died at 1 :20 pm Sunday, November 1, at Boyd Memorial hospital in Carrollton following a few weeks illness. The deceased was a daughter of the late Henry C. & Mary (Reddish) Harmon and was born in Jersey County, September 24, 1877. Mrs Davenport is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Lester Dabbs and Mrs. Carl Dehner of Jerseyville; 1 step-son Laverne Davenport of Fieldon; 5 grandchildren; 11 g-grandchildren, and 1 g-g-granddaughter, and 4 sisters, Mrs Joseph Slover and Mrs. Louis Houseman of Jerseyville, Mrs. Gertrude Black of Elsberry, Missouri, and Mrs. ?? DAVENPORT. Died 02-02-1985. Verna G. Davenport, 91, formerly of Jerseyville, died February 2, at Jersey community Hospital. She had resided at Mt. Gilead home in Greene County for the past 5 years. She was born Jan. 13, 1894 in Fidelity, daughter of the Late Urban Kennedy & Emily Jane (Rodell) Eastham. Her husband, John Otto Davenport whom she married January 1, 1915, in Carrollton, died January 1, 1980 on their 65th birthday. She is survived by 3 sons, John Davenport Jr., Carlinville, Wilbur Davenport, Orlando, Fl, and Donald of Jacksonville, IL; 2 daughters, Mary Helen McHenry, Springfield and Jane Ufer of Eldred; 10 grandchildren and 10 g-grandchildren. Services were held Tuesday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. James Pepper and Rev. Gary Peterson officiated. Burial was Jalappa cemetery northeast of Kane. DAVIDSON. Died 1880. Mrs Susanna Davidson, 66, of Fidelity Township died on Saturday last at her home, 5 miles west of Brighton. She was one of the old settlers of the county. Mrs Davidson was a member of the Methodist church.
DAVIDSON. Clarence Davidson, former Greene County resident, died March 6, of a heart attack at his home in Pueblo, CO. Funeral and burial were in Pueblo. Clarence Davidson was a son of Mr. & Mrs. James Davidson, and was born near Eldred, November 22, 1876. He was a farmer and lived here until about 18 years ago, when he and his family moved to CO. He is survived by his wife, Cora (Bushnell) Davidson, and 2 married daughters, Pearl and Edith, both living in Pueblo; 5 grandchildren, and 1 sister, Mrs. a M. Ewell of Canon City, CO. Mrs Fred Kirbach, a niece of the decedent went to Pueblo to attend the funeral.

The daughter of the late William H. & Velma (Kaslick) Journey, she married Harmon Harrison Davidson in 1919, he died in 1967. She was a 65 year member of the Eastern Star, and a Grafton native. Davidson, born March 25, 1886, in Jersey County. Spent entire life on his present homesite with exception of 3 years when he operated in a confectionery in Grafton. On April 5, 1919, he married Ethel (Journey) Davidson of Grafton who survives him. DAVIDSON. Jasper Davidson, 78, formerly of Alton, died Monday in Riverside, California, where he had been residing for the past 3 years. He was brother of Marcus Davidson of Carrollton, whose death occurred last Friday. Mr Davidson had been employed for a number of years at First National Bank & Trust Company in Alton, before moving to CA. He is survived by his wife; 1 son, Raymond of Alton; and 3 grandchildren. The body was returned to Alton for burial.

Mr Davis had suffered a heart attack some time ago but his condition was not considered serious. He became ill early Sunday am and died before medical aid arrived. DAVIS. Died 1904, Eliazbeth Davis, 87, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Riggs, was born in Heighstown, New Jersey June 28, 1817. She married Abiha Davis, December 16, 1835 and moved to Illinois . They settled near Pekin in Tazewell County. In 1838 the moved to Greene County on a farm adjoining the Benjamin Riggs farm, when the red man still roamed the prairie of Illinois and before Jerseyville had a given name as a town. A few years later Mr. Davis built his home opposite the Woodlawn addition, now of the city of Jerseyville. They were parents of 8 children: Henry Davis now of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Elizabeth Lewis, widow of the late Ford lewis, she is the eldest girl baby, born in Jerseyville, now living , and the 2nd if not the 1st baby after Jerseyville was named; Mrs. H. V. Swallow of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Emily Harris of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Maryetta Hutchison of Denver, Colorado, who died October 6, 1904, Samuel Howard Davis died in infancy; Mrs. Elenora Kirby of Springfield, IL; Sarah Agusta Davis Now in CA. Mrs Davis belonged to Presbyterian church. Her husband Abijah Davis died July 24, 1872. 1 son and 1 daughter preceded her; leaving 1 son and 5 daughters, 8 grandchildren, 3 g-grandchildren. DAVIS. Born 09-01-1864, Jersey County, Illinois, died 1907. Ellis Verner Davis, 43, died Sunday evening. As Rev. J. Driscoll was administering the sacrament of baptism to Mr. Davis, who had been ill of catarrah pneumonia for several weeks, his sister, Mrs. John Farmer suddenly expired. Ida A. (Davis) Farmer, 47, and her son of Texahoma, Oklahoma, had arrived in Jerseyville Friday. While kneeling at her brothers bedside, she suddenly collapsed. The family, thinking she had fainted, tried in vain to revive her. Failing, they hastily summoned a doctor, who pronounced her dead. The bodies of brother and sister lay side by side in same home. Mr Davis funeral was held Wednesday am from St. Francis church with Rev. J. J. Driscoll officiating. Rev. Gaither officiated at the funeral of Mrs. Farmer Tuesday afternoon at Bethel church. Her burial was in Kellar cemetery.

DAVIS. Ida Blanche Davis, 79, died unexpectedly at 4 am August 25, 1989, at home. Born in Texarkana, Arkansas, her parents were the late Z Douglas & Bertha (Legate) Bell. She and Harold W. Davis were married November 26, 1948, in Wood River and he survives. Also surviving are 1 niece, Lois Ratliff of Syracuse, NY. 1 sister, Virginia Berry, preceded her in death. Visitation was at Marks mortuary in Wood River. Funeral services were at Wood River Assembly of God church, where she had been a lifetime member. Rev. DAVIS. Jame Davis, 92, born in Roan County, NC January 4, 1797, d. April 20, 1889. She married John M. Davis in 1818 and they were parents of 9 children 5 daughters and 4 sons. 4 children survive, 39 grandchildren, 22 of whom survive; 30 g-grandchildren. They emigrated to Missouri in 1829 and to Illinois in 1835. Her husband died January 31, 1864. She had out lived all her sisters and brothers. Funeral on the 22nd from the Methodist church. She will rest beside her husband in the family grave yard on the farm of her son in law, Luckey.

Services were conducted at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville by brother James T. Lyles. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. He was born January 10, 1956 in Jerseyville, a son of Wilbert V. & Gladys V. (Martin) Davis. Davis was production control manager at Beall Manufacturing Company and had formerly worked with bush hog kraus. He is survived by his parents; 1 brother, Thomas Davis; and 1 sister, Melody Smith of Alton; and maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Preston Martin of Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses.
DAVIS. Born 22-09-1843, Coles County, Illinois, died 22-02-1917. John William Davis, 65, died February 22 at his home 12 miles southeast of Jerseyville. He married Mary E. (Myers) April 16, 1868. She died April 4, 1914. They were parents of 12 children, 4 dying in infancy. Surviving are Charley, William and Harry; 5 daughters, Mrs. Lula Franz, Mrs. James Handins of Dow, Mrs. Henry Willace and Mrs. Laura Homer of Grafton, Mrs. Arthur Ewing of Alton; 21 grandchildren. He was a Civil War veteran serving 3 years, 1861, receiving an honorable discharge. There was a coroners inquest consisting of Ed Rintoul, Henry Heitzman, Joe Federle, B. F. Race, Carl Giers and Rupert Rintoul. Death from natural causes. Rev. Fahnstock delivered a strong and forceful sermon at the funeral. He was buried beside his wife in Newbern cemetery. Pall bearers were H. L. Slaten, Thomas Hughes, George Spangle, Perry Spangle and James McDow.

A retired school teacher, she was born in Grafton, daughter of Edward L. Ringhausen of Arlington Heights and the Late Faye (Ward) Ringhausen. She married Richard H. Davis in 1938. In addition to her husband, she is survived by 2 sisters, Elsie Beach of Jerseyville and Virginia Drenth of Arlington Heights. Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville was in charge of arrangements. Mr Davis was the son of the late Alec & Sara Myrtle (Poore) Davis. He was a tool grinder at a drilling tool manufacturer. He married Thelma (Span) Davis June 19, 1928 and she died March 16, 1983. He died November 30, 1983, at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis. He is survived by 2 sons, Lawrence E. Davis Jr., Riverton, WY and Rodney L. Davis, Newport News, VA; 3 daughters, Myrtle Pyatt of Freeburg, Delores Anderson of Smith Grove, Kentucky and Bette Flatt of Jerseyville; 3 brothers, Virgil Davis of Detroit, Illinois, George Kendall of Quincy, and John Farnsworth of Sheridan, WY; 2 sisters, Ida Anderson, El Monte, California and Jesse Mae Scott, Pittsfield; 17 grandchildren and 29 g-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and 1 sister. Memorials may be given to First Assembly of God Church building fund.
DAVIS. Died 10-12-1954. Lola Davis, 48, of Collinsville, former Jersey County resident, died December 10, at St. Mary hospital in East St. Louis. She had been in ill health for 3 years, but a patient at the hospital only since Thursday evening. The decedent was a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Charles Baker and was born May 20, 1906 at Lockhaven. She spent her early life in the Elsah area and following her marriage she and her husband resided in Alton. She moved to Collinsville 6 years ago. Her husband preceded her in death about 10 years ago. Surviving Mrs. Davis are 5 sons, Robert and Raymond of Alton, Frank and John of Collinsville and Roy of New Orleans; 3 daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Perotti and Miss Violet Davis of Collinsville and Mrs. Lossie Matteson of Alton; 1 sister, Mrs. Emma Cauley of Alton; 1 brother, Patrick Baker of Meadowbrook and 4 grandchildren. Funeral rites were conducted Monday am December 13, at Gent Funeral Home in Alton and burial was in Upper Alton cemetery.
DAVIS. Died 01-11-1956. Louis Lee Davis, 67, years, 10 months, 6 days, a farmer residing northeast of Jerseyville on Rural Route 2, died at Jersey Community hospital Thursday afternoon, November 1. He had been ill only a few days. Mr Davis was a son of the late Edward & Mary (Clark) Davis, and was born in Jersey County, December 25, 1888. The decedent was a veteran of WWI. Surviving are his wife, Martha Davis; 2 daughters, Lois Lee Davis, a teacher at Jersey comm high, and Ruth Virginia Davis, both of Jerseyville; 1 son, Charles E. Davis of Rockbridge; 3 grandchildren; 1 brother, Harry E. Davis of Jerseyville, and 1 sister, Mrs. Clarence Brown of Kane. Services were held at First Baptist Church on Sunday November 4 by Rev. Carl C. Moman. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Arrangements were by Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
DAVIS. Died 1922. Mrs Maria E. Davis, 82, was born in 1845 in Moultrie County. She married Churchwell Snow. Then later married George Davis. Burial in Fieldon cemetery.
DAVIS. Martha C. Davis, 94, died Friday January 16, 1987, at Jersey Community hospital, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Newmansville, daughter of the late Dr. Charles and Dorothy (Carver) Mathews. She married Louis Lee Davis on February 11, 1920, in Jacksonville and he died in November 1956. Surviving are 1 son, Charles E. Davis of Kane; 2 Daughters, Lois Davis and Ruth Davis, both of Jerseyville; 4 grandchildren; and 4 g-grandchildren. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services will be held there on Monday with John Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove cemetery.
DAVIS. Died 04-04-1914. Mary Elizabeth Davis, 66, daughter of Lorenza & Angelina Myers, was born in Reynolds County, Missouri, November 19, 1847. She died at her home near Dow April 4. She came to Jersey County, and married Wm. Davis, April 16, 1868. They were parents of 12 children, 4 preceding her in death. Her husband survives; 3 sons, William, Charles and Harry of Newbern; 5 daughters, Mrs. Jos Hawkins, Mrs. Olive Ewing of Dow, Mrs. Angeline Wallace, Mrs. Laura Homer of Grafton and Mrs. Lulu Franz, Rosedale; 3 brothers Luther of Okla, Wm. B. of Missouri, and S. of Newbern; 19 grandchildren. Funeral from Newbern church, Rev. Fahnestock of Elsah officiating.
DAVIS. Mrs Mary A. Davis, 39 years, 2 months, 18 days, died April 4 1908, at her home in Jerseyville. Funeral was conducted by Rev. W. W. Hicks Sunday at 2 pm at Baptist Church. Jerseyville Lodge No. 109 MPL attended the funeral in a body.
DAVIS. Died 13-06-1942. Milton Davis, 84, cousin of Mrs. Fred Prough of Jerseyville, died June 13, at his home in Wichita, KS. He had been ill for the past 3 years. Mr Davis was the son of the late Anderson & Juliette (Ritchey) Davis and was born in Jersey County on February 26, 1858. He resided here until 1886 when he went to Cheney, Kansas, where he was engaged in farming for several years. Later he moved to Wichita where he engaged in the rooming house business and was in business at the time of his death. Surviving are his widow, Cassie (Frey) Davis; 1 daughter, Mrs. Albert Doll, and 2 grandchildren, Norman & Beverly Doll, all of Wichita, and 1 sister, Mrs. Charles Mott of Larned, KS. Mr Davis was a cousin of M. J. Ritchey of Jersey County. Funeral services and burial were in Wichita. Mr & Mrs. Davis and their son in law and daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Albert Doll, and children visited her 3 years ago.
DAVIS. Died 1984. Nelda Marie Davis, 71, of Austin, Texas, died Wednesday at her residence. She was born in Brighton, daughter of the late August & Viola (Schuetz) Burkhardt. The former Brighton and Alton resident is survived by 1 daughter, Nancy Lee (Hunt) Whatley of Austin, Texas; 3 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Clara L. Elhoffer and Iris Thomas, both of Alton; and 1 brother, Robert Burkhardt, also of Alton. Services were conducted Friday at St. Paul Lutheran church in Austin, Texas. Weed-Corley Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar, Austin, Texas, was in charge of arrangements and Burke Funeral Home in Alton handled local arrangements.
DAVIS. Died 1922. Otis Davis, 19, son of Mrs. Mollie Davis of Drumright, Oklahoma, formerly of Hardin, met his death in an accident at Chappell, NE. He and 3 other young men were boarding a fast train. They were on their way to a nearby Nebraska town, where they were employed. Otis through some misstep was thrown from the train, and died 50 min later from the shock and the force of his fall. He was not run over by the train. He would have been 20 years of age in Dec. Mrs a C. Robb, aunt of the deceased, returned Wednesday from Drumright, went to Hardin for the funeral and was accompanied home that evening by her brother, John Davis and son, Levi, of St. Louis. They returned from here to their home. The interment was in Tulsa, Oklahoma, beside his brother, Hubert Davis, formerly of Jerseyville. Besides his mother he leaves 2 brothers, Mayo Daniels now of Los Angeles, and Robb Daniels who is with his mother at Drumright. The deceased was the youngest son of Mrs. Davis.
DAVIS. Died 22-05-1888. Samuel Davis, 78, was born in Rowan County, NC, July 8, 1798. He was married to Mary (Clifford) Davis, July 20, 1824, and together they emigrated to Illinois, January 1, 1830. By this union there were 8 children, and 4 are still living. They both united with Methodist Episcopal Church in 1837. His companion was called away November 17, 1875, and he survived her until May 22, 1888. He was a kind and affectionate husband and father, and leaves 39 grandchildren and 28 g-g-grandchildren and a host of friends and acquaintances to mourn his loss.

DAVIS. Died 13-11-1914. Dr. Thomas Allen Davis, 77, was born July 9, 1937, in Calloway County, MO, and died in Jerseyville November 13, 1914. On September 4, 1861, he was married to Sallie a (Broadus) Davis. They were parents of 10 children. Surviving are 3 daughters, Mrs. J. E. Baird and Mrs. L. W. Wells of Jerseyville and Mrs. B. W. Westcott of Benton Harbor, Michigan, and 1 brother, Ira J. Davis of Granite City. He came to Illinois in 1865 and came to Jerseyville in 1880, practicing dentistry here for 4 years. His wife passed away in 1883 and he was married again to Mary E. White, who, with 1 daughter, Viola Davis, survives him. They are living in Denver. The past 26 years of his life were spent in Warsaw, Illinois. His health having failed in April of this year, he retired from active business life and went to his son in Granite City, and later came to his daughters in Jerseyville, hoping to recuperate and again take up his practice, but this had not happened. The funeral services were held Sunday, with Rev. W. S. Neely officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. His motto in business was live and let live, at home bear and forbear, and his patience and endurance , sweetness and gentleness of spirit during his illness was unusual. He became a member of the Christian church early in life and died true to his faith.

His wife, Caroline (Federle) Davis, 1 daughter, 2 brothers and 5 sisters, preceded him in death.

DAVIS. Virgil L. Jake Davis, 82, died Tuesday May 19, 1992, at Jerseyville care center. He worked in the service department at Sunderland Motor Company for 28 years before retiring in 1973. Born in Jersey County on February 13, 1910, he was a son of the late Riley S & Emily (Huff) Davis. On April 19, 1930, he married Dorothy (Crow) Davis. She died October 28, 1970. He and the former Hazel (Mourning) Egelhoff were married September 4, 1971, in Jerseyville and she survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Betty Tonsor of Fieldon and Marian Gross of Jerseyville; 1 step daughter, Doris Lee Heitzig of Jerseyville; 1 stepson, Dick Long of Los Angeles, California; 7 grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; 10 grandchildren; and 8 step g-grandchildren. 3 brothers, Charles, Claude and Howard Davis preceded him in death. Services were held Thursday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Grant Jensen officiated with burial in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church in Jerseyville, where he had been a member.

He was born March 8, 1905 in Jersey County, a son of Riley & Emma (Whitlock) Davis and was a retired carpenter. He is survived by his widow, Imrs Beulah (Brooks) Davis whom he married June 4, 1927; 2 Sons, Hubert Eugene Davis and Claude J. Buzz Davis of Jerseyville; 3 daughters, Mrs. Russell (Idella) Bridgewater of Shipman, Mrs. William (Flois) Parrish, of Grafton and Mrs. William (Sandra) Klunk of Jerseyville; 1 brother, Virgil Jake Davis; 20 grandchildren; 11 g-grandchildren. DAVISON. Died 13-11-1876. Eddie, son of James & Mary Davison, died on Monday evening, November 13, 1876. His funeral took place from family home, 4 miles south of Jerseyville, November 14.
DAVISON. Died 03-10-1906. Louis Potter Davison, 60, oldest son of William & Emaline (Potter) Davison, was born February 16, 1846, in Monroe County, NY. In the spring of 1854 he came with his parents to Michigan where they resided until 1856 when they moved to Jerseyville and settled on the Davison B. tract of land south of town. He was educated in the common schools of Jersey County and attended college at Lincoln, Illinois. He married Elizabeth (Ely) Davison in Jerseyville, January 21, 1874. They were parents of 1 child, Mrs. Karl Nelson of Jerseyville. On October 24, 1886, he was seized with paralysis from which he has been a patient sufferer all these years. He united with the Jerseyville Presbyterian Church in 1887; was a faithful Christian, worshiping god in silence. He died at his home in Jerseyville, October 3, 1906, strengthened by his faith in Jesus Christ. He leaves to mourn, his faithful wife, 1 daughter, 1 grandson, 1 brother, Clarence Davison, a number of relatives and a host of friends.

DAVISON. Died 10-1845? William Davison, 80, born in Monmouth County, NY. In 1839 he went to NY state settling in Ontario, Wayne County. He came west in 1854 for and for sometime lived at Kalamazoo, Michigan. He came to Jersey County in 1856 and lived on the farm where he lived at the time of his death, October 2, 1845, he married Hanna Emeline (Potter) Davison and she survives. They were parents of 3 sons, the oldest and youngest surviving. The second son James died 2 years ago. 4 grandchildren and 1 g-grandchild also survive. Funeral from Presbyterian Church with Rev. J. He was born in Eldred, son of the Late Owen & Cecil (Bryant) Dawdy. He married Eva Mae (Talley) Dawdy on September 30, 1945, in Carrollton. She died September 16, 1986. Surviving are 2 Daughters, Urmadene Albers of Hillview and Guyla Camden of Salem, Missouri; 2 sons, Emil Dawdy of Jerseyville and David Dawdy of Whitehall; 14 grandchildren; 16 g-grandchildren; and 3 Sisters, Glenna Rogers of Roodhouse, and Eileen Grafton and Stella Kesinger, both of Whitehall. DAWKINS. Died 15-12-1959. Roy Homer Dawkins, 72, well known Jerseyville blacksmith, died unexpectedly Tuesday December 15, at the home of his neighbors, Mr. & Mrs. David Overy. He had been called there by the illness of Mr. Overy, Jerseyville realtor. Death is believed to have been caused from a heart condition from which Mr. Dawkins had suffered for sometime. Mr overy became ill in the night and Mr. Dawkins was called to the home and shortly after his arrival in the Overy home Mr. Dawkins collapsed and died. He was moved to Jersey Community hospital where he was pronounced dead. The decedent was born in Clay County, Illinois, November 6, 1887, a son of the late Mr. & Mrs. George W. Dawkins. He had resided in Jerseyville for several years. During WWII he was employed at Western Cartridge Company in Alton and after the war he opened his own blacksmith shop in this city which he operated at the time of his death. – incomplete.
DAWSON. Died 28-03-1973. William R. Buddy Dawson, Jr., 18, son of Dr. & Mrs. William R. Dawson, former Delhi residents. He was the grandson of Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Lyles of Jerseyville. His mother is the former Charlotte Lyles. His death occurred March 28, at Barnes hospital in St. Louis, Missouri where he had been a patient for 2 weeks. Buddy was born February 4, 1955 in Camden, South Carolina. He was a senior at Alton high and was a member of Alton Jehova Witness congregation. In addition to his parents and maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Lyles, he is survived by his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Alta Mae Dawson of Alton and 3 brothers, Jeffrey Allen, Thomas Leland and Daniel Patrick Dawson, all at home.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, August 23, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Earl Clagg, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, officiated. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs Day was a daughter of the late William H. & Louise (Grosjean) Deichler and was born at Fidelity on December 23, 1881. Surviving her are her husband 2 sons, Glenn R. Day of Collinsville and Paul F. Day of Jerseyville; 7 grandchildren; 6 g-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Miss Clara Deichler, Mrs. Vida Ploss and Mrs. Freda Beals of St. Louis.

DAY. Died 15-07-1985. Flora E. Day, 92, of Jerseyville died July 15 at Garnet Chateau. She was born September 1, 1892 in Harris, Iowa, the daughter of the late Henry J. & Elizabeth (Smith) Steinkuehler. She was married to the late Lloyd A. Day, and he died in 1941. She is survived by 1 son Melvin Day of Jerseyville; daughter Mabel Sarginson of Chesterfield; 5 grandchildren; 12 g-grandchildren; and 1 g-g-grandchild. She was preceded in death by 1 son and 1 brother. The funeral service was July 17 at First Baptist Church, Jerseyville, with Rev. John Wilson officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church of Jerseyville.
DAY. Died 23 08-1970. Glen R. Day of Collinsville, died in his sleep at his home Sunday August 23. Mr Day had suffered from a heart ailment the past 7 years. He had retired in January from his work as foreman with Mobil Oil Company in East St. Louis. Funeral services were held August 25 at Collinsville Unity Baptist Church, where he was a charter member and deacon. The pastor, Rev. John Hansen, conducted the rites and interment was in Lakeview Mem Gardens at Bellville.
DAY. Died 31-12-1924. Herman L. Day, 55, well known painter and decorator died the last day of 1924. He was the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. William Day, early settlers of Jersey County. He married Emma (Rowden) Day, February 8, 1894. He leaves his wife and 4 children: Ellis of Dallas, Texas, Hershel of Milwaukee, WI, Eugene and Marjorie of Chicago; and a sister, Mrs. George E. Johnson of Upper Alton. Funeral from Baptist church, Rev. Joseph (j?)enkins officiated with burial in mausoleum of Oak Grove cemetery. Pallbearers: Edward Houseman, Henry J. Catt, William Wells, Charles Krotzsch, Fred Herold and Charles Schmidt. Also surviving are his step mother, Mrs. Wm. Day of Jerseyville; 2 half sisters, Mrs. John Roady of Jerseyville and Mrs. J. K. Cadawallader of Alton, 1 step brother, Ira Day of Godfrey, 1 grandson Robert Ellis Day, son of Ellis V. Day.
DAY. Died 15-11-1951. Hersal G. Day, 55, Evanston, Illinois, formerly of Jerseyville, died Thursday November 15, in Augustana hospital in Evanston. Mr Day suffered a heart attack on November 13, while at the dinner table and never regained consciousness. The decedent was a son of the late H. L. & Emma Day, and a brother of the late Ellis V. Day. He was a member of the Methodist church and a veteran of WWI. Mr Day was a midwest District Manager of Rockwood & Company, chocolate manufacturers, and was secretary of the Allied Trade Group. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Inez Day; 2 daughters, Mrs. William Turner and Mrs. William F. Lentsch; 1 brother, Eugene E. Day; and 1 granddaughter, Karen Turner, all of Chicago. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, November 17, in Memorial Park mausoleum Chapel in Evanston
DAY. Ione J. Day, 81, died today February 12, 1988, at her residence. Born in Jersey County, she was the daughter of the late Pruitt & Rosilee (Stocks) Johnson. She married Leo C. Day in August 1926 in Frederick, Oklahoma. He died May 13, 1966. Surviving are 2 daughters, Carol Lee Day of Jerseyville and Joyce Long of Houston, Texas; 6 grandchildren; 13 g-grandchildren and 1 brother, Lawrence Johnson of Medora. She was preceded in death by 1 child, her parents, brothers and sisters. Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville were in charge of arrangements and services were held there by Rev. Earl Clagg. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to Bethel Baptist Church where she was a member.

Mr Day, a son of the late David & Carrie (Sandidge) Day, was born in Jerseyville, March 31, 1890. His marriage to le Etta (Ewers) Day occurred November 8, 1910 at Bloomington. Mr Day was engaged in business in Jerseyville for a number of years before moving to Mason City. He was a retired employee of Central Service Co. While here he served as chairman of the Jersey County Democratic Club for 16 years. He was a lifelong member of the local Elks Lodge, a 50 year member of the Blue Lodge, AF & AM a charter member of the Exchange Club of Alton, and a member of the White Shrine of Phoenix, Arizona. He also held membership in the First Baptist Church of Jerseyville. Surviving are: his wife; 2 daughters, Mrs. Della Winters of Mason City and Mrs. Margaret Dennis of Charleston, 6 grandchildren, and 4 g-g-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 son, 1 daughter, and 3 sisters.

Leo Clair Day, 66 years, 8 months, Jersey County farmer and breeder of registered Holsteins and registered Berkshire hogs, died Friday am May 13, at Alton Memorial Hospital, where he had been hospitalized for 17 days. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Final rites were held there Sunday afternoon by Rev. Ray Snow, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, where Mr. Day was a member. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr Day was a son of the late John & Sarah (Gentry) Day and was born in Jersey County, September 13, 1899. Surviving are his wife, Ione J. Day, 2 daughters, Mrs. Joyce Long of Wood River and Miss Carol Day of Jerseyville, 6 grandchildren, and 1 sister, Mrs. Frank Loy of Jerseyville.

She married Reginald Day and he died in August 1974. She is survived by 2 sisters, Clyda Daniels and Lucy Hoffner, both of Jerseyville. Also preceding her in death were 3 sisters and 6 brothers. Visitation at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville where the Eastern Star services by Eastern Star Elizabeth Chapter #17. The funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Funeral Home, Rev. V. Clay Noah officiating. Burial will be in Kane cemetery. Memorials may be given to Bethany Baptist Church where she was a member.
DAY. Melvin L. Day, 75, died Saturday December 15, 1990, at St. Clare hospital in Alton, after a lengthy illness. He was a local farmer and had worked for A. O. Smith Corporation in Granite City for 23 years before retiring. In 1977. Born in Jersey County, he was the son of the Late Lloyd and Flora (Steinkuhler) Day. On July 27, 1940, in Alton he married Hilda (Burch) Day. Surviving are his wife; and 1 sister, Mabel Sarginson of Chesterfield. 1 brother Lloyd Day Jr. preceded him in death. Visitation at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services from First Assembly of God Church of Jerseyville. Rev. Larry Hayes officiated with interment in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to the First Assembly of God Church of Jerseyville where he was a member.
DAY. Died 15-08-1974. Reginald F. Day, 72, of 308 Arch St., Jerseyville, died August 15, at Garnet Chateau. Funeral services were held Saturday August 17, from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Clarence Clark of Hettick officiated, with interment in Kane cemetery. A retired farmer, he was born in England on December 8, 1901. Mr Day was a member of Kane Masonic Lodge, a past patron of the Eastern Star Lodge of Kane, and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. His survivors are: his wife, Mary C. (Hughes) Day; 5 Brothers, Cyral and Frederick of California, Victor, George and John of England; and 1 sister, Nancy Day of England. Visitation and Masonic services were conducted at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Funeral services were held September 21 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Earl Clagg officiated, interment in Oak Grove cemetery. He was the son of the late Thomas L. & Adeline B. (West) Day, born in Fidelity Township, February 28, 1882. He is survived by 1 son, Paul F. Day of Jerseyville; 7 grandchildren; 13 g-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 son Glenn, 3 sisters, and 1 brother. He was married to Alma J. Deichler in 1906. She died in August of 1967. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Jerseyville.
