TACK. Died 03-1904. Nicholas Tack, 45, died at the home of his father, John C. Tack on Maple Ave. He was born July 11, 1859, and served as a clerk in Engels St., Oregon. The funeral was from the home, the Rev. J. G. Keene. Researcher note: On the copy of page 195 of ISGS Quarterly XIV IV (Winter 1982) that I have Nicholas is listed as d. 30 October 1904, and the father John C. Tack is listed as died 27 June 1905 – Les Chapman.
TACK. Died 07-1905. John C. Tack, 86, died at the home of his son, A. M. Tack, 403 N Lafayette St. Rev. T. F. Marshall officiated at services held from the Presbyterian church. He leaves 4 sons: Charles M., Albert M., Millards, & William H. Tack. He was born March 17, 1819 in Philadelphia and married in same city to Henrietta T. Miller, March 17, 1842, they moved to Otterville in 1846; then to Jerseyville, where he was a merchant. He belonged to IOOF. He was father of 10 children, 6 having preceded him in death. TACK. Died 12-1903. Mrs. Henrietta Tack born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, December 17, 1823. She was the daughter of Wm. T. Miller, and married John C. Tack of that city. She lived there until May 1845, then came west to St. Louis where they lived untill the fall of 1847 when they came to Jerseyville. She was the mother of 10 children, 2 girls & 8 boys. Her husband and 5 children preceded her in death. Surviving are 5 sons; Charles, William, and Millard of St. Louis, and Albert and Nicholas of Jerseyville. Funeral from Presbyterian church.
TACK. Died 19-05-1928. Charles M. Tack, 83, died at home in Los Angeles, California. On May 19. He had been in ill health for some time and had been gone from Jerseyville for about 9 years. He leaves his wife, Hattie (Shafer) Tack,1 daughter Miss Ada, 1 son albert, 2 brothers, Millard and William of St. Louis and Al Tack of Jerseyville. Funeral was held in California.
TALBERT. Died 02-11-1990. Walter Eugene Talbert, 53, died at 9:21 am Friday November 2, 1990, at Alton Memorial hospital, after an illness. He was a mailsmith with the US Navy for 21 years, retiring in 1973. Born in Grafton, he was the son of the late Ernest and Gladys (Fitts) Talbert. He married the former Josephine Weid on February 3, 1976, in Jerseyville, she survives. Also surviving are 1 son, William Ernest Talbert of Canton 4 Daughters, Carla Baecht of Oak Harbor, Michigan, Shari Mcdaneld of Killeen, Texas, and Teresa Talbert and Sandy Hendricks, both of Canton; 9 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; a sister, Dorris Davis of Fieldon; and 2 brothers, Carl Talbert of Alton and Alfred Talbery of Grafton. Preceding him in death were 1 son, Walter Eugene Talbert, Jr., and 1 brother, Russell Talbert. Visitation is from 5-9 pm today at Jacoby-Schroeder funeral home in Jerseyville. Service will be Monday at 11 am, Rev. Dale Wilfong officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted at Scenic Hill cemetery in Grafton by American Legion and VFW Post, both of Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the family in care of the funeral home.
TALLEY. Died 04-10-1972. Final services were held Friday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, for Thomas Chris Talley, 83, of Alton, a retired farmer, whose death occurred on October 4, at St. Joseph’s Hospital after a month of illness. Rev. A. J. Maggos officiated at the rites and burial was in Fieldon Cemetery. He was born September 5, 1889 in eldred the son of the late John and Ellen (Hardwick) Talley and attended schools in Eldred. Mr. Talley was a member of the Pentecostal church at Nutwood. Survivors are his wife, Mildred Roberts Talley; 3 sons, Thomas W. of Maryland Heights, Missouri, Harold of Jerseyville and Arnold; 2 daughters, Mrs. Geneva Lewis and Mrs. Mildred Frommee of St. Charles, Missouri; 16 grandchildren; 22 g-grandchildren; and 2 stepsons, Donald Douglas Music of Valley Park, Missouri and Curtis Ray Music of Vallear, Kansas. His first wife, Stella Marie Shaw, died in 1940.
TALLEY. Died 12-10-1977. The funeral of Gertrude Elizabeth Talley, 88, who resided at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home, was conducted Tuesday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Revs Wilbur Cain & Glenn Cain officiating, burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. Her death occurred at 9 pm October 12 at Jersey Community hospital. Born October 14, 1895 in Eldred, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary Frances (Meadows) Parker and was a member of the Open Door Fellowship church. Her survivors are 2 sons, George Talley of Fieldon and Charles Talley of Alton; 9 daughters, Marvell Brooks, Kane, Armeda Dunham, Lola Mae Dunham, Vivian Akers, Deloris Westfall and Beatrice White, all of Jerseyville, Elene Moore, Granite City, Wilma Griffin, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Frances Crumley of Alton; 54 grandchildren, 111 g-grandchildren and 42 g-g-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Talley on June 24, 1968; 1 brother, 2 sisters, 5 grandchildren and 3 g-grandchildren. The Open Door Fellowship church has been named as a memorial.
TALLEY. Died 25-07-1968. George Lodrick Talley, 76 years, 3 months, 23 days, a retired farmer who resided on Rural Route 1, Fieldon, died Wednesday afternoon, July 25, at 1 pm at Jersey Community hospital. He had been a patient for 24 days, and in failing health for about 5 years. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 pm at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. A. J. Maggos of Alton officiated and internment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation hours were held at the funeral home. Mr. Talley was a son of the late John Thomas & Clara Ellen (Hardwick) Talley and was born in Greene County March 31, 1892. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Gertrude E. Talley of Fieldon; 9 daughters, Gertrude Marvelle Brooks of Kane, Maude Ellen Armeda Dunham, Lola Mae Dunham, Vivian Pauline Akers and Wilma Irene Griffin of Jerseyville, Lindel Eileen Moore of Edwardsville, Beulah Deloris Westfall of Fieldon, Ethel Frances Westfall of Alton and Beatrice Mae White of Elsah; 2 sons, George J. Talley of Jerseyville and Charles Eldon Talley of Fieldon; 2 Brothers, Clem Talley of Jerseyville and Thomas C. Talley of Alton. He also leaves several grandchildren and g-grandchildren.
TALLMAN. Died 23-11-1978. Funeral mass for Hugh J. “Penny” Tallman, 72, of 807 S. Madison, Gillespie. Was celebrated Monday am at SS Simon & Jude Catholic church at Gillespie with the Rev. Paul Heinen as celebrant. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery. He died 3:12 pm November 23, 1978. Born in Witt, he was a son of the late George and Agnes (McKinney) Tallman. His survivors are his wife, the former Adelia Parnell; 2 daughters, Lucille Koschak of Gillespie and Margie Isringhausen of Jerseyville; 2 sons, William H. of Granite City and James of Jerseyville; 11 grandchildren; 3 g-grandchildren; 2 brothers, William and John, both of Gillespie; and 1 sister, Mary Gray of Fortville, Indiana.
TANKERSLEY. Died 03-1851 (?). Mrs. Allie Tankersley, 70, died at home in Otterville, Rev. Mr. Webber officiated at services held from Otterville church. Burial in Noble Cemetery. She lived in Chicago until 15 years ago, when she came to Jersey County and made her home with her sister Mrs. Josephine Green at Otterville. She leaves 1 sister, Mrs. Green, 4 nieces and 2 nephews, Mrs. Della Stowe and Mrs. Bera Spence of Springfield, Illinois, Mrs. Inez Porter of Finley, Illinois. W G. Mcdow and Sister Nona of Lexington, Kentucky, and Wm. Green of St. Louis.
TANNER. Died 24-07-1979. Mrs. Irma Camerer Tanner,45, 1871 S. Platt St., Melbourne, Florida, formerly of Jerseyville, died July 24, at 10:45 am in the Brevard County Hospital, Brevard County Florida. Mrs Tanner was born July 15, 1934, the daughter of Mrs. hazel Camerer and the late Roswell Camerer. She is survived by her husband, Robert; 3 daughters, Cheryl of Jerseyville, Roberta Adams of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Terry Tackett of Palm Bay, Florida, 5 sons, Dennis Tanner of Alton, Steve of Melbourne, Greg, Timmy and Travis at home.
TANNER. Died 08-02-1975. Robert C. Tanner, 67, of 1218 Rodemeyer, Alton, died at 12:35 pm of February 8 at St. Joseph’s hospital in Alton. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon, February 12, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. William J. Turner officiated, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, where military rites were conducted at the graveside by Worthey Post American Legion. He was born August 3, 1907 in Kentucky, a son of John and narsie (mattingly) Tanner. A veteran of WWII, Mr. Tanner was retired as a repairman at Owens-Illinois. His wife, the former Opal Alexander, died September 16, 1970. His survivors are: 2 sons, Robert F. Tanner of Melbourne, Florida, and Raymond L. Tanner of Palm Bay, Florida; 3 daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Gay) Gaither of Alton; Mrs. Betty Parker of Godfrey, Miss Linda L. Tanner of Alton; 19 grandchildren; 10 g-grandchildren; 1 brother, Joseph Harper of North Carolina; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Clara Grounds of Godfrey and Mrs. Helen Schoene of Orchard Farm, Missouri. His parents, widow and 2 brothers preceded him in death.
TAPPRICH. Died 02-09-1970. Final rites were held at 3 pm Saturday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, for John Tapprich, 80, of Mulbery Grove, formerly of Jerseyville, who was pronounced dead on arrival at 7 pm on September 2 at the Greenville hospital. Rev. Earl Clagg officiated at the services with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery. A retired brakeman at Illinois Central Railroad, he was born July 3, 1890, in Alton a son of Jacob and Mary (Staudgher) Tapprich. He was a WWI veteran. He is survived byhis wife, Mrs. Lula M. (Carroll) Tapprich; 1 son, Richard of Mulberry Grove; 4 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Helen Cannie of Howell, Michigan, and Mrs. Lena Kennedy of Springfield, Ohio; 4 brothers, Jacob, Independence, Missouri, Roy Chicago, William, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Harry of Clarksville, Virginia. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
TATE. Died 01-01-1904. George Tate, 73, died at home 3 miles south west of Jerseyville, January 29. Funeral was from Methodist church, February 1, 1904, conducted by Rev. J. G. Dee.
TATMAN. Died 01-06-1989. Former Gillespie resident, Althea Tatman, 92, died at 9:10 Thursday, June 1, 1989, at Jersey Community hospital. Born in Wrights, she was a daughter of the late Buel and Amy (Mitchell) Stone. A retired cook, she had been employed at Laclede Steel. She was first married to Harvey Ford, he died, and then she married John Tatman. He also preceded her in death. Surviving are: 2 sons, Ferris Ford of Brighton, and Warren Ford of Greenfield; 5 grandchildren; and 9 g-grandchildren. There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 pm Monday in Gillespie City Cemetery. With Pat Green officiation. Kravanya Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
TAUBER. Died 24-01-1987. Jerseyville native Beatrice O. (Bertman) Tauber, 85, of Decatur, died January 24 at St. Mary’s hospital. She was born in Jerseyville to John C. and Theresa Bertman. She married Arthur B Tauber Sr. in 1932; he died in 1977. She was a retired registered nurse for St. Mary’s hospital. Survivors include 1 son Arthur B. Jr.; 1 daughter, Eugenia (Dee Dee) Smith of Abingdon, Virginia; brother Msgr John Bertman of Quincy; 3 sisters Eleanor Beirmann of Jerseyville, Rosemary Sick of Little Rock, Arkansas, and sister Mary Eugenia O P of Springfield; 14 grandchildren; and 11 g-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 1 son, 1 daughter and 2 brothers. Visitation was January 26, and the funeral was January 27 in Holy Family Catholic church. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Decatur. A memorial has been established to Holy Family Catholic church.
TAYLOR. Died 21-06-1967. John William Taylor, 79 years, 8 months, 13 days, a barber in Jerseyville for many years before his retirement, died Wednesday am June 21, 10:30 am at the home of his niece, Mrs. Lena Kruse, in Fieldon. He had madehis home with Mrs. Kruse for a number of years. Mr. Taylor had been in ill health for sometime. Rev. Leonard Todd of Moro, a former pastor of Christ United church in Fieldon, officiated at the final rites which were held Friday afternoon at 2 pm at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial was in Fieldon Cemetery. Services were in charge of Worthey Post American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation was at the Funeral Home. Mr. Taylor was a son of the late James L. and Lena (Rheinhardt) Taylor, and was born at Fieldon, October 8, 1887. He was a WWI veteran. Surviving are 8 nieces and 3 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mrs. Carrie (Skiff) Taylor, 1 sister, Mrs. Ida Brueggemann, and 3 brothers, Phillip, Ansell and George Taylor.
TAYLOR. Died 20-03-1953. Mrs. Janet Taylor, 56, wife of Rea E. Taylor of Jerseyville, died Friday afternoon March 20, at 3 pm, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Flanagan, in St. Louis where she had spent the past few months during her illness. Mrs Taylor was born in Linn, Missouri, March 27, 1897 but had resided in Jerseyville the past 30 years. She was the daughter of the late Herman and Margaret Gove of St. Louis and her father was a member of the Missouri legislature for several terms. During her residence in Jerseyville, Mrs. Taylor had been an active member of St. Francis church where she had been active in the work of the Mother’s Club and had been president of the Altar Society for a number of years. Surviving Mrs. Taylor in addition to her husband are 1 son, Rea Taylor, Jr., 1 daughter, Miss Mary Taylor, and 1 grandson, Rea Taylor, III, all of Jerseyville. She also leaves 2 sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Flanagan and Miss Mary Gove of St. Louis and a brother, James R. Gove of Indianapolis, Indiana. The body was moved from the Donnelly Funeral Home, 3840 Lindell, St. Louis, to Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where friends called Sunday afternoon. Funeral services were held Monday March 23, at 10:30 am at St. Francis in Jerseyville with the Rev. Fr John J. Clancy officiating. Internment was in St. Francis Cemetery.
TAYLOR. Died 02-1925. George W. Taylor, 42, well known barber of Fieldon, died at the home of his parents Mr. & Mrs. James Taylor in Fieldon. He leaves a widow and 3 Sons, Fred, Philip, and Chris, parents; 2 brothers Philip and John of Jerseyville and 1 sister, Mrs. Ida Brueggeman. Funeral was held from Fieldon Presbyterian church; Rev. C. H. Kuhlman, with burial in Fieldon Cemetery.
TAYLOR. Died 01-12-1987. Walter R. Taylor, 85, died at 4:20 pm Tuesday, December 1, 1987 at St. Mary’s hospital in Clayton, Missouri. Taylor worked as a farmer for 32 years before retiring in 1971. He was born in Princeton, Kentucky, son of the late Alex and Myrtle (Reed) Scott Taylor. On June 5, 1927, he married the former Vera Josephine Neil, and she survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Myrtle Elizabeth Pointer and Betty Conrad, both of Jerseyville; 2 sons, Walter Franklin Taylor of Shelbyville, Tennessee, and Eugene Taylor of Sayare, Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren; 8 g-grandchildren; and 2 (1/2) Sisters, Erma Phelps and Mary Belle Newsom, both of Princeton, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by 1 (1/2) brother, Edward Scott. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm Thursday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services will be conducted there at 2 pm Friday with the Revs. James Thorgmorton & L. E. Hutchinson officiating. Burial will be in Kane Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist church of Fieldon.
TAYLOR. Died 04-1907. Russell Taylor, 7, son of John Taylor, was buried from Paradise church, the Rev. Shouse officiating.
TAYLOR. Died 11-03-1988. Alvin Leroy “Roy” Taylor, 86, died at 1:45 am Friday, March 11, 1988 at St. Joseph’s hospital in Alton. Taylor had been a farmer and worked as a mechanic at several auto shops in Jerseyville. He was born in Greene County son of the late George E. and Jesse (Hodgerson) Taylor. On October 6, 1928, in Jacksonville, he married the Former Goldie Coats, and she survives. Also surviving, are 2 grandchildren; 4 g-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Ada Smith of Dow and Hazel Ralston of Rosewood Heights. He was preceded in death by a son, Lee Taylor; and a sister Edith Johnesse. Visitation will be 4-9 pm Sunday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services will be at Funeral Home at 1:30 pm Monday with the Rev. Ray Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to a charity of one’s choice.
TAYLOR. Died 06-1971. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville for Mrs. Bessie Margaret Taylor, 69, of Delhi whose death occurred Thursday in Jacksonville. Rev. Arthur Dresbach, pastor of the Delhi Baptist church, officiated at the rites with interment in the Ingersoll Cemetery. She was born November 27, 1901 in Alton the daughter of Charles & Drucilla (Grissom) Dykeman. She and her husband, John B. Taylor, Sr., had resided in the Delhi vicinity for 30 years. She was a pianist for the Delhi Baptist church. Survivors are: her husband; 1 daughter, Mrs. Frank (Verna) Brown of Delhi, and 3 sons, J. B. Taylor, Jr., of Delhi, Bud W. Taylor of Bethalto and Paul A. Taylor of Alton; 12 grandchildren and 2 g-grandchildren; and 2 Brothers, Foreman Dykeman of Bolivar, Tennessee, and Vernon J. Dykeman of Alton. Visitation was held at the Funeral Home.
TAYLOR. Died 25-04-1977. Mrs. Elizabeth Taylor, wife of the late Rea Taylor, died at 3 pm on April 25, at her home 1395 Bluebird, Florissant, Missouri. The Taylors operated a hardware business in Jerseyville for several years. A native of Lynn, Missouri she was a daughter of Herman and Margaret (McCord) Gove. Her survivors are: 1 daughter, Mary Turner of Florissant and 1 son, Rea E. Taylor who had operated a hardware store in White Hall. A private memorial mass will be said at a later date. The family suggests masses. No visitation.
TAYLOR. Died 23-07-1955. Elmer C. Taylor, 83 years, 10 months, 22 days, a retired farmer, of Fidelity died at 5:20 pm Saturday afternoon, July 23, at Jersey Community hospital where he had been a patient for 19 days. Mr. Taylor was born in Richland County, Illinois, August 31, 1871, a son of the late James Allen and Susan (Edmondson) Taylor. His wife and 3 sons preceded him in death. Surviving are: 4 daughters, Mrs. Bertha Swanner of Fidelity, Mrs. Lela Johnson of Woodburn, Mrs. Emeline Phillips of Mcclure and Mrs. Thelma Clem of Roxana; 1 Son, Clarence Taylor of Middlebrook, Arkansas; 29 grandchildren; 30 g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs. May Dempsey of Ola, Arkansas, and 2 Brothers, Arthur Taylor of Amity, Oregon, and Ira Taylor of Portia, Arkansas. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, Tuesday, July 26, at 2 pm with the Rev. Paul Hughey of Wood River and Rev. William Greer of Medora officiating. Internment was in Willis Cemetery near Harrisburg, Arkansas.
TEANEY. Rev. J. W. Teaney, 79, died at his home in Otterville January 10, 1912. Funeral was held from Baptist church in Otterville, Rev. W. W. Hicks officiating. He was born in Elizabeth, Kentucky and moved to Illinois when small. He lived at Fayette, Greene County where he was a pastor, postmaster, and in the mercantile business, for 18 years. He lived in Otterville for 23 years, serving 4 years as postmaster there. He also had a store. He leaves his wife and 3 children. Mrs L. T. Waggoner, Mrs. Letta Finley and Bessie Howard of St. Louis. Burial was in Kellar Cemetery at Chesterfield.
TEASLEY. Died 30-06-1989. June M. Teasley, 64, died at 8 am Friday, June 30, 1989, at home, after a short illness. Mrs Teasley was employed by the Roxana school district in the housekeeping department for 10 years. She also worked as a grocery clerk at Dauer’s in Roxana 4 years and Paul Davis Grocery in Cottage Hills 4 years, retiring in 1974. Born in Rosedale, her parentswere the late Jasper and Emma (Corven) Crull. Born on March 30, 1946, she married George M. Teasley Jr., and he survives. Also surviving are: 2 Sons, Gary Teasley of St. Louis and George M. Teasley III of Omaha Nebraska; 3 grandchildren; 1 sister, Imogene Dabbs of Grafton; and 2 brothers, Dwight Crull of Calumet City and Wilbur Crull of Chino, California. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Charles and Woodrow Crull; and 1 sister, Lucille Henry. Visitation begins at 4 pm today at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, where services are 1:30 pm Monday with the Rev. H. Todd Taylor officiating. Burial is in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
TEBOW. Died 15-12-1986. Edward A. Tebow, 66, died at 2:45 pm Monday December 15, 1986, in St. Anthony’s hospital in Alton. Before his retirement, Tebow was a design draftman with Union Electric of St. Louis for 30 years. The WWII veteran was born in East St. Louis, son of the late Albert and Ethel (Vogelpohl) Tebow. He married the former Kathline “Pat” Campion on August 22, 1966, and she survives. Also surviving are: 1 son Steven Tebow of Florissant, Missouri; 1 daughter, Vicki Vollmer of Summerset, New Jersey; and 5grandchildren. Visitation is scheduled 4:30-9 pm Wednesday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton. A rosary will be recited at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic church in Grafton. Burial will be at Scenic Hill cemetery in Grafton. Memorials may be given to the church building fund or masses.
TEDROW. Born 1918. Eugene Everett Tedrow, 1 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Tedrow. The funeral was by Rev. W. L. Neely, with burial at Carrollton. He leaves his father, mother, sister Vivian, and brother Ralph.
TEETZEL. Died 11-09-1986. Former Shipman resident Harriet M. Teetzel, 89, of California, died September 11 at Ventura, California. She was born September. 14, 1897, in Shipman to the late Hoit S. and Anna (Burley) Cornelius. She was a nurse from 1924-1979. She Married Hugh M. Teetzel in 1935; he died August 13, 1951. Survivors include niece Melba K. Lasher of Godfrey. She was preceded in death by, her husband, 2 brothers, and 5 sisters. The body was cremated in California, and the cremains were buried September 28, in Lamb Memorial Cemetery in McClusky. Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, was in charge of local arrangements.
TEICHMANN. Samuel Richard Teichmann, 2(1/2) month old son of Scott and Sandra (Plummer) Teichmann, died unexpectedly at 9:53 am Tuesday September 17, 1991, at Jersey Community hospital. He was born on July 3, 1991, in St. Louis, and is also survived by his grandparents, Carl and Bernadette Plummer of Jerseyville and Carol Teichmann of Godfrey. Visitation is from 5 -8 pm today at Jacoby Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville. A mass of the angels is at 10 am Thursday at Holy Ghost Catholic church in Jerseyville, with the Rev. William Hembrow as celebrant. Burial is in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery at Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, in care of the International Council for Infant Survival, 510 5th St. NW, Washington, DC 20022.
TIETSORT. Died 08-1898. Nancy (Wood), born in old Virginia, July 4, 1806. He moved to Dark County, Ohio, where she lived until 30 years of age. She came to Cass County with an older married sister. She there met Peter Teitsort and married him on March 25, 1835. They lived on a farm until March, 1856, and moved to Jersey County. They settled in the Paradise neighborhood and lived there 29 years, then moved to Medora. Her father, John Wood, was a soldier of the Revolutionary War and fought in several battles. She was one of 10 children an lived to see all of her family pass away. She was a member of the Methodist church from which, the funeral was held. Her remains were buried at Shipman by the side of her husband and also her sister, Sarah Swank, former wife of Michael Swank, who preceded her over 40 years ago.
TELKAMP. Died 11-01-1981. A funeral mass for John Jacob Telkamp, 86, of Rural Route 1, Grafton was celebrated Wednesday am at St. Patrick’s church by the Rev. Joseph Dineen. Burial was in Scenic Hill Cemetery. He was born February 24, 1894 in Missouri. The WWI veteran was a commercial fisherman. He is survived by a sister, Gertrude Telkamp of St. Louis. The rosary was recited at Jacoby Funeral Home and memorial of one’s choice was designated.
TELKAMP. Helen E. Telkamp, 68, died at 9:05 pm Friday, December 30, 1983 at St. Anthony’s hospital, Alton. Born July 23, 1915 in Jersey County, daughter of Charles M. & Lula (Woolsey) Chappell and married Raymond Telkamp September 20, 1940 in Fieldon. She was a housewife and member of the Delhi Baptist church. Services were held from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, Rev. Daniel Mead officiating at the rites and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. She leaves her husband, 1 sister, Marjorie Jennings of Jerseyville, 4 nephews and 2 nieces.
TELKAMP. Died 09-1970. Benjamin Henry Telkamp of Rural Route 1, Grafton, died at 7 am Sunday at Jersey Community hospital where he had been a patient for 2 days. Funeral services were held at St. Patrick church in Grafton at 10 am Wednesday. Requiem mass was celebrated by Father Patrick Morrow, and burial was in Scenic Hill Cemetery. Visitation hours were at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where the rosary was recited Tuesday evening. Mr. Telkamp, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Telkamp, was born in Calhoun County, and his age at time of death was 86 years, 4 months, and 17 days. Mr. Telkamp was a farmer. Survivors are: 2 sons, Raymond Herman Telkamp of Rural Route 1 Jerseyville, and Edward Henry Telkamp of East Alton; 3 daughters, Mrs. Helen Walkoff and Mrs. Gertrude Rowling of Grafton, and Mrs. Edith Pegue of Fieldon; 10 grandchildren; 3 g-grandchildren; 1 brother, John Telkamp of Grafton and 1 sister, Gertrude Telkamp of St. Louis.
TEPEN. Albin “A. J.” Tepen, 87, of Jerseyville, died at 10:20 am Saturday, December 3, 1988, at Jersey Community hospital. Born in Calhoun County, the retired self employed farmer was the son of the late Bernard & Anna (Mest) Tepen. He married the former Frances Smith in Meppen in 1926. She died July 29, 1963. Surviving are: 2 sons, Alfred and Vic Tepen, both of Jerseyville; 6 daughters, Ann Carpunky, Kate Ward, Dorothy Tittle, Essie Haun and Gert Nevlin all of Jerseyville and Adele Randolph of Carrollton; 38 grandchildren; 45 g-grandchildren; a sister, Clara Tepen of Hardin and 2 brothers, Paul Tepen of Rockbridge and Bill Tepen of Alton. Preceding him in death were: his wife, 3 brothers, Henry, Bernard and Herman Tepen; 1 sister, Mary Droege; and a g-grandson. Visitation was held Monday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. A mass willl be celebrated December 6, 1988 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic church in Jerseyville, with the Revs Henry Schmidt and William Hembrow as concelebrants. TEPEN. Edwin H. Tepen, 75, died at 12:55 pm Friday, March 15, 1991, at Greenwood Manor, Jerseyville. He retired in 1980 from Wood River Local 338, after more than 40 years of service. Born in Meppen, he was the son of the late Lucas & Margaret (Ficker) Tepen. On June 1, 1946, in Batchtown, he married the former Cora (McGee), she survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Shelia Beiermann of Godfrey; 2 grandchildren; 1 sister, Marie Mossman of Sullivan; and 3 brothers, Elmer and Arthur Tepen, both of Meppen, and Harry Tepen of Brussels. An infant daughter, Diane Margaret Tepen, and an infant sister, Elsie Tepen, preceded him in death. Visitation is from 4-9 pm today at Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville with a rosary recitation at 7 pm. He is survived by his widow, the former Jo Ann Clendenny; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. John B. Tepen of Carrollton; 3 sons, Christopher, Timothy and James, all at home; 2 sisters, Mrs. Bernadine Hillen of Meppen and Mrs. Mary Ann Ritter of Carrollton, 4 brothers, Norman J. and Eugene F. of Carrollton, Jerome B. of Jerseyville and Joseph B. of Franklin. TEPEN. Died 21-07-1980. Frank Tepen, 83, of Hardin died at 8:15 am July 21 at Jersey Community hospital. A funeral mass was celebrated Wednesday am at St. Joseph Catholic church in Meppen with burial in the church cemetery. The retired farmer was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late John & Catherine (Beckman) Tepen. He is survived by 2 sisters, Rose Woelfel of Jerseyville and Margaret Schroeder of Bowling Green, Missouri.
TERPENING. Died 13-11-1984. The funeral of Irma Terpening, 78, of Kane was conducted Friday afternoon at the Kane Baptist church by Rev. Peter Ely with burial in Kane Cemetery. She died at 3:25 pm November 13 at Jersey Community hospital. She was born April 5, 1906 in Kane, daughter of James and Grace (Wheeler) Mundy and was a member of the Panhandle Home Bureau and Kane Baptist church. Her husband, Roy Terpening whom she married July 4, 1925 in Carrollton, died September 13, 1981. She is survived by 2 Daughters, Emma Prough of Jerseyville and Marilyn Spargo of Jacksonville; 1 son, James Terpening of Carrollton; 7 grandchildren and 8 g-grandchildren; 1 brother, Louis “Ole” Mundy of East Alton. 1 brother and 1 sister also preceded her in death. The intensive care unit of Jersey Community hospital and Kane Baptist church have been designated as memorials. Arrangements were by Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
TERPENING. Died 13-09-1980. Roy Terpening, 76, a grain and livestock farmer of Rural Route 1 Kane, died unexpectedly at his home at 9 am September 13 from a heart condition. Born September 18, 1904 in Greene County, he was a son of William and Emma (Varble) Terpening. His survivors are: his wife, the former Irma Mundy; 2 daughters Emma Prough of Jerseyville and Marilyn Spargo of Jacksonville; 1 son, James of Carrollton; 7 grandchildren and 5 g-grandchildren. Also surviving are 1 brother, Harry Terpening of Alton; 2 Sisters, Elma Huff of East Alton and Faye Jockisch of Godfrey; 1 half brother, Billy Terpening of Carrollton and 3 half sisters, Betty Short and Edith Wheeler, Carrollton, and Dorothy Ford, East Alton; 1 step-brother, Fay “Jack” Baker, Jerseyville; 2 Step-sisters, Lela Smith of Medora and Mary Mowrey of East Alton. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and an infant son. Services were conducted at the Kane Baptist church by the Revs Peter Ely and Garold Cooper. Burial was in the Kane cemetery. The Kane Baptist church has been named as a memorial.
TERPENNING. Died 10-11-1975. The funeral of Fred A. Terpenning, 66 of Mobile, Alabama, formerly of Jerseyville, was conducted on November 14 from Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Military services at the graveside were conducted by the American Legion. His death occurred on November 10.
TERRELL. Died 08-03-1884. John L. Terrell, 84, died at his home March 8. He was born in Caroline County Virginia, December 8, 1800. In 1830 he married Mrs. Jane Jones. From Virginia, they moved to Tennessee. In 1839, they moved to Jerseyville; and in 1841 joined 1st Presbyterian church. His wife died in 1883.
TERRELL. Pauline M. Terrell, 66, died at 11:50 pm Tuesday, December 26, 1989, at her residence. She had been a former nurses aide at Bowling Green, Missouri, Nursing Home. Born in Wood River, she was the daughter of the late Clarence E. and Naomi Pearl (Frey) Orr. She married Fred Lee Terrell on May 21, 1983, in Grafton. Surviving are: her husband; 1 sister, Shirley Logsdon of Jerseyville; and 1 brother, Leroy Orr of Godfrey. A brother, Paul V. Orr, preceded her in death. Visitation is from 6-9 pm today at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services are at 11 am Friday with Rev. William Hendricks officiating. Burial is in Scenic Hill cemetery in Grafton. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
TERRELL. Jason Terrell, 57, brother of Lewis Terrell, died at his home in Morrisonville, Illinois, March 30, 1898. Jason L. Terrell was born in Morris County, New Jersey, August 17, 1840. His family moved to Illinois in 1850 and settled on a farm 3 miles south east of Jerseyville. Nov 24, 1869, he married Ezizabeth A. Wyckoff and moved to a farm 7 miles southeast of Morrisonville, Christian County, Illinois. He opened mercantile business in Morrisonvillle and in 1882, opened a hardware business. All businesses were closed during funeral which was held at Presbyterian church of Morrisonville, April 1. Remains of Jason L. Terrell arrived here Thursday and buried in Oak Grove cemetery. Rev. W. H. Kearns officiated. His survivors are: his wife, 1 son, and 1 daughter; 4 Brothers, Lewis in Jersey County, Isaac in Arkansas, George in Washington, and Oliver in Nebraska. Attending funeral were, Mrs. Terrell, son William, daughter Miss Sarah, all of Morrisonville. Lieut. A. B. Wyckoff of Seattle, Washington ,and his daughter; also Mr. Myron Esstover of St. Louis.

TERRY. Albert O. Terry, 71, of St. Louis, a native of Jersey County, died in Chicago Monday, July 13 surrounded by his wife, son and daughter. He was a veteran of the Civil War and studied law at the University of Michigan. The remains were taken to his home in St. Louis where the funeral took place. Mrs. Henry Terry, a sister-in-law, went to the city to attend the last rites.
TERRY. Died 21-10-1876. On October 21, Jasper M. Terry, one of our oldest and most respected citizens, breathed his last. Mr. Terry had been for some months past in feeble health. In his death Jersey County loses one of her best and most honored citizens, a man of sterling integrity, fine intelligence, and great usefulness in the community. He was a native of Hardin County, Kentucky, and came to Illinois in 1828. He married Mary Ann Wagner on September 20, 1833. She was the daughter of John & Mary Wagner, who resided southeast of Carrollton. They had 12 children – 9 sons and 3 daughters – 3 of whom died in infancy. Mr. Terry, soon after his marriage, settled on the southwest quarter of section 24, town 7 range 12, (Ottercreek, township), where he resided up to the time of his death. His farm is one of the best in the township; and although he began life without capital, he had, by dint of great industry and strict integrity amassed a large fortune and became a most successful business man. Elected Associate Judge in Jersey County in 1850, which position he held until 1857, with credit to himself and satisfaction to his fellow citizens. Funeral from Otterville Baptist church, Rev. M. TERRY. Died 09-03-1971. Graveside services were held Tuesday am at 10:00 at Oak Grove cemetery for Pauline Pearce Terry, 56 of Passaic, New Jersey, formerly of Jersey County. Her death occurred March 9 at the Passaic General hospital. Rev. M. Edwards Breed officiated at the rites. She was born May 17, 1914 the daughter of the Late Gilbert Ray and Hattie Irene (Boswell) Pearce. Her survivors are: 1 brother, Raymond Vincent Pearce of Jerseyville, and 1 sister, Mrs. Harriett Phillips of Lake Worth, Florida. Visitation was held Monday evening at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

TERRY. Died 31-08-1951. Funeral rites for Mrs. Ella B. (Ramsey) Terry, 89, were held in the Elsah Methodist church Sunday afternoon, September 2, and interment was in the Vanderslice family lot in the old Elsah cemetery. The Rev. Edgar J. Vance pastor of the first Presbyterian church in Alton officiated at the service and by request of the late Mrs. Terry the Methodist choir sang, with Mrs. James Fessler, church pianist, as accompanist. The pall bearers included August Jacobson, Wilbur Seagrves, Dewey McDow and Edward Keller of Elsah, C. J. Jacoby and E. L. Jacoby of Chautuqua and Alton. Mrs Terry, a native of Kentucky, at the age of 12 came with her brother, the late Tom Ramsey, to Elsah were she resided until 1943 when she was moved to the IOOF home in Mattoon where her death occurred Friday, August 31, at 5:30 pm. The decedent was a life-long member of the Rebekah Lodge, Auxiliary of the Elsah IOOF Lodge, No. 269, organized in 1859 and dissolved in the early 1940’s. She was also a member of the Elsah Presbyterian congregation which while in existence met in the Elsah Village Hall and later she attended the Elsah Methodist church. The aged woman is survived by 2 sons, rl Vanderslice of Chicago and L. H. Vanderslice of Memphis, Tennessee. She also leaves 2 grandsons, V. F. Chappell of Chicago and H. D. Chappell of Alton and 1 granddaughter, Mrs. Archa Trabue of Alton and 3 g-grandsons.
TERRY. Died -10-1969. Jerseyville relatives received word Monday of the death of Jesse R. Terry, 82, of Bartow, Florida, which occurred morning in a hospital in Lakeland, Florida. Mr. Terry had been in ill health about a year. He was a son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Henry Terry of Otterville and was born July 8, 1887. Mr. Terry resided in Jersey County until about 1924 when he moved to Florida where he owned and operated a ladder factory. He retired from business last year. Surviving are: his wife, the former Miss Rena B. Parsrll of Jerseyville whom he married in 1912, 2 daughters, Mrs. Marjorie I. Kane and Mrs. Pauline Adams, and 3 Sons, Newell, Warren and Jean all of Florida. 14 grandchildren and 3 g-grandchildren. Mr. Terry was a brother-in-law of Frank and Harry Parsell of Jerseyville. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 8 in Florida.
TERRY. Died 02-1907. Henry Clay Terry, 61, son of Jasper M. and Mary (Waggoner) Terry, died suddenly Tuesday am at his home near Otterville. He was born on the old homestead near Otterville, September 25, 1845. He attended Otterville school, Shurtleff College and Poughkeepsie, New York. In 1864 at the age of 19, he enlisted in the 124th Illinois Infantry Reg. and in July 1865 transfered to 33rd Illinois Inf., with which he served till he was discharged, in November; mustered out December 6 1865. On September 28, 1870 married Mary Cadwaller. He leaves his wife and 4 children: Ada M., Chas. H, Jesse R, and Lora F., wife of Fred M. Edwards of Sapulpa, Indian Territory; 2 grandsons; 2 sisters and 2 brothers. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Rev. W. W. Hicks officiated at the rites from First Baptist church at Jerseyville, burial in Oak Grove cemetery.
TERRY. Died 29-10-1897. Mrs. Mary A. Terry, 80, widow of the late Jasper M. Terry, died at her home in Otterville on Friday night, October 29, 1897. The funeral was from the Otterville Baptist church, Rev. J. J. Porter officiating with burial in Otterville cemetery. She leaves 2 daughters, Mrs. Wm. Y. Winchell of Otterville, Mrs. Annie F. Weir of Edwardsville; 6 sons, Henry C. Terry of Otterville, John W. of New Mexico, Wm. H. and Anslam of Montgomery County, Albert O., Theo, F., and Thos J. of St. Louis. The 6 sons wereall present and acted as pallbearers. The funeral was largely attended.
TERRY. Died 17-04-1968. Funeral services for Mrs. Mary G. Terry, 86, were held Friday afternoon at 1:30 pm, at the First Methodist church in Jerseyville with the Rev. W. Louis Purcell officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Visitation hours were held at the Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Mrsterry, whose home was at 515 W. Pearl St., died Wednesday afternoon, April 17, at 3:10 at Jersey Community hospital where she had been a patient 10 days. She was a daughter of the late John H. & Maria (Pope) Greene and was born September 15, 1881, in Greene County. Her age at death was 86 years, 7 months, and 2 days. Her husband, Charles H. Terry, who was County Clerk in Jersey County for several years, died in 1947. Mrs Terry is survived by one son, J. Donald Terry, of this city and 3 grandchildren.
TERRY. Ada Terry, 81, died March 16, 1953. She was born in Otterville the daughter of Henry C. and Mary (Cadwalleder) Terry. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.
TERRY. Buried 16-03-1953. Funeral services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville Monday afternoon, March 16, for Miss Ada M. Terry, member of a well-known Jersey County family, whose death occurred March 12 in Gainesville, Florida. Rev. F. W. Schwarzlose, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated at the sevices and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Miss Terry was a daughter of the late Henry C. and Mary (Cadwaller) Terry and was born on the Terry homestead near Otterville. She was 81 years old. For a number of years she was employed in Alton and for the past 25 years had resided in Gainesville, Florida, where she owned and operated a gift and book shop. She was a member of the Eastern Star and White Shrine. Surviving are: 1 sister, Mrs. Fred M. Edwards of Lakeland, Florida, and 1 Brother, Jesse R. Terry of Bartow, Florida. She was a sister-in-law of Mrs. Charles H. Terry of Jerseyville. Marshall Edwards of Bartow, Florida and Mr. & Mrs. T. W. Edwards of Cincinnati, Ohio, were here to attend the funeral. The men are nephews of Miss Terry.
TERRY. Died 20-05-1984. Funeral services are pending for Lula Mae Terry, 68, of Jerseyville, died of an apparent heart attack at 8:41 pm May 20, at Jersey Community hospital. She had been hospitalized for one week. Mrs Terry was born December 1, 1915 in Kane, the daughter of the late Ira W. & Grace (Tompkins) Reno. She is survived by her husband, J. Donald Terry, who she married July 23, 1937 in St. Charles Missouri. 1 son, Donald Gordon Terry, Chicago; 1 daughter, Patricia Sue Terry, Plains, Texas; 1 grandson; and 1 Sister, Dorothea Taylor, of Rosewood Heights. She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 granddaughter.
THATCHER. Died 04-1972. Arthur Thatcher, 83, veteran newsman, free-lance writer, and a Justice of the Peace in Jersey County for nearly a half century, died at 6:15 Friday pm at Jersey Community hospital where he had been moved earlier in the day. Though he suffered a series of strokes in the past few years, Mr. Thatcher had continued work in the newspaper field, concentrating mostly of feature stories for out of town newspapers. His knowledge of history and animal life formed the basis for many of his articles. Funeral services for Mr. Thatcher were held at 1:30 Monday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with Rev. M. Edwards Breed officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. The retired journalist was born in Jerseyville, February 26, 1889, a son of Paul C. & Hanna (Vanpelt) Thatcher. He was educated in the Jerseyville school system. For 2 years after his graduation he read law in the office of the late Judge Harry Pogue and in 1911 entered the newspaper field, a profession which he followed until ill health forced his retirement about 6 months ago. Locally he was associated with the old Jerseyville Republican which later became the Jersey County News. In later years he wrote for the Jersey County Democrat. During these same years, Thatcher was an associated press reporter and wrote for St. Louis and Jacksonville papers. His latest newspaper affilliation was with the Alton Evening Telegraph. In 1919 the newspaper man was elected to the office of Justice of Peace in Jersey township and served through reelection in this capacity until the judicial system was changed. Working with a committee of prominent citizens, Mr. Thatcher was appointed publisher of Jersey County in WWI, which contains biographical sketches and listing of the men from this county who served their country at this time. His memoirs include many awards which he has received for contributions of prose and poetry to magazines and other publications and only last year one of his seasonal poems was published in the Ideals, a colorful booklet issued 6 times a year. Aside from his newspaper and jurists interest, Mr. Thatcher was a member of the Jersey County Historical Society and the Rotary Club. His survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Etha (Manning) Thatcher; 1 daughter, Mrs. Charles N. (Martha Leigh) Bentley of St. Louis, Missouri; 2 sons, Paun M. Thatcher of Jerseyville and William B. Thatcher of Phoenix, Arizona; and 3 grandchildren.
THATCHER. Died 02-1906. Brazil R. Thatcher, 65, died at home in the northeast part of the city. He leaves his wife and 2 daughters, Mrs. Kate Harris of Jerseyville, and Mrs. Robert Maltimore of Chicago; 1 grand daughter, Theo Harris. Rev. T. F. Marshall officiated at service held at Presbyterian church.
THATCHER. Died 18-04-1989. Paul M. Thatcher, 74, Kane, died at 10:25 am April 18 at Barnes hospital, St. Louis. He was a lifetime farmer, retiring in 1978. He was born November 22, 1914, in Jerseyville, to Etha (Manning) Thatcher & the late Arthur Thatcher of Jerseyville. His mother survives. He was amember of the First Baptist church, Jerseyville. Also surviving are: his wife, Esther (Hyde) Thatcher; 1 son Eric M. Thatcher, Carrollton; 2 granddaughters; 1 brother, William B. of Phoenix, Arizona; 1 sister, Martha T. Bentley, of Springfield, Missouri. Funeral services were held Friday, April 21, at 10:30 am at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial was in Kane cemetery, Rev. Charles Epperly and Rev. John Wilson officiated. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association or the First Baptist church, Jerseyville.

Requiem mass will be celebrated at 9:30 am Friday at St. Frances Xavier church in this city for John Shepard Thatcher, Sr., of Bryan, Texas, whose death occurred at 9:30 am Tuesday at the John Cochran hospital, St. Louis. Rev. Father Francis Lee will officiate and burial will be in St. Francis cemetery. Visitation will be held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, after 7 pm Thursday. The rosary will be recited at 8 pm. Committal rites at the cemetery Friday am will be under the auspices of the Worthey Post, American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. Mr. Thatcher, a game biologist, had been ill for some time and had been a patient at John Cochran hospital for 4 mos. Prior to his hospitalization he had made his home in Bryan, Texas, for the past 5 years. A son of Carl E. Thatcher of Jerseyville & the late Mrs. Irene (Shepard) Thatcher, Mr. Thatcher was born in Jerseyville, May 20, 1915. His age at the time of death was 52 years, 5 months, and 4 days. He was a veteran of WWII. His fraternal affiliations included membership in the Knights of Columbus council and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Surviving are: his wife, Mrs. Jane B. Thatcher, of Bryan, Texas; 2 sons, John S. Thatcher, Jr., of Florissant, Missouri, and David Carl Thatcher of Bryan, Texas;1 daughter, Mrs. Sandra Jane Agostini of Florrisant, Missouri; his father, 7 grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs. Wilber F. Hacker of Jerseyville and 1 brother, William J. Thatcher of Edwardsville.
THATCHER. James William Thatcher, 72, died at 11:40 pm Thursday November 23, 1989, at Jewish hospital, St. Louis. A WWII US Navy veteran, he was employed for 20 years as an accountant at Granite City Steel Company, retiring in 1978. Born in Jerseyville, he was the son of the late Carl & Irene (Shepard) Thatcher. He married the former Helen Duhadway on April 5 1941, in Jerseyville, and she survives. Also surviving are 3 sons, James Thatcher, Jr., of Kaneohe, Hawaii, Alan Thatcher of Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania and Charles Thatcher of Roanoke, Virginia; 2 daughters, Penelope Hill of Edwardsville and Irene Mann of Richardson, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and 1 sister, Virgnia Hacker of Jerseyville. A brother, John Thatcher, preceded him in death. Visitation is from 5-9 pm today at St. Francis Xavier Catholic church in Jerseyville, with a wake service at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at noon Monday at the church. Burial is in St. Francis cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society. Thatcher, 78, retired Jerseyville businessman whose death occurred Tuesday noon at Garnet’s Chateau where he had been a patient for a few weeks. His home was at 8 Barr place, this city. Father Francis Lee was celebrant of the mass and burial was in St. Francis cemetery. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville where the rosary was recited at 8 pm Wednesday. Mr. Thatcher was a member of the Jerseyville Council Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge of Jerseyville. He is a former city commissioner and for a number of years he played with the Jerseyville Municipal Band. Mr. Thatcher, a son of the late Paul C. & hannah vanpelt Thatcher, was born in Jerseyville, August 24, 1893, and was a lifelong resident of this community. He had operated the Thatcher Insurance Agency here until his retirement a number of years ago. Surviving him are 1 daughter, Mrs. Harriet Virginia Hacker of Jerseyville; 1 son, James William Thatcher of Edwardsville; 13 grandchildren; 16 g-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Arthur Thatcher of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Irene (Shepard) Thatcher and 1son, John Shepard Thatcher.
THATCHER. Died 07-05-1985. A funeral mass was celebrated Friday at St. Francis Xavier church for Jane B. Thatcher, 70, of Florissant, Missouri, wife of the late John S. Thatcher, formerly of Jerseyville. Father Patrick Morrow was celebrant. She died at 6:55 am May 7 at the Carrollton Manor in Bredgeton, Missouri. She was born May 3, 1915 in Sand Point, Idaho to the late David & Blanche (Hill) Swenson. She was a secretary for 10 years at the University of Iowa. Her husband died October 24, 1967. Her survivors are 2 sons, John of Florissant, Missouri and David of Snellville, Georgia; 1 daughter, Sandra Jane Smith of Florissant; 1 Brother, David Swenson, Portludlow, Washington; 2 sisters, Betty Hay, Sun City, Arizona and Mary Ann Switzer, Lincoln City, Oregon; 14 grandchildren; 1 g-grandchild. THATCHER. Died 05-1965. Leroy Thatcher, 81, retired Jerseyville painter, died at 7:45 am, Thursday, at St. Anthony’s hospital in Alton where he had been a patient for 39 days. Prior to entering the hospital, Mr. Thatcher had been making his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Hugh Thatcher of Wood River. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services weer held at 2 pm sat. Rev. Mode Powell, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr. Thatcher was a member of one of the early families of Jersey County. He was born here July 30, 1884, a son of the late Paul C. & Hanna (Van Pelt) Thatcher. His survivors are: his wife, Eula Thatcher; 1 daughter, Miss Jane Thatcher of Alton; 1 son Hugh Thatcher; 3 grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Arthur Thatcher and Carl E. Thatcher of Jerseyville.
THEIS. Died 25-10-1915. Henry Theis, 71, long time resident of Brighton died in St. Louis October 25. The funeral was at Brighton Evangelical church by Rev. F. W. Schnathorst. He was a native of Hessen-Nassau, Germany and had come to the USA as a young man.
THERO. Died 1927. A request made some time previous to his death that a silver offering, rather than flowers, be brought by friends attending his funeral, was carried out Saturday at the final rites for Rev. Samuel Thero, Methodist clergyman, which were held in the First Methodist church in East St. Louis, Illinois. Rev. Thero, in a recent illness, had asked that a basket be placed in the church and that friends deposit money for use in the mission fields of India, rather than that they bring floral tributes to his memory, in the event of his death. Following a brief illness, the minister, well known in the Southern Illinois Conference, suffered a stroke of apoplexy at his home in East St. Louis Thursday. The attack was fatal. He was pastor of the Bond Avenue Methodist church in that city. Rev. Mr. Thero was a native of Iowa, where he was born January 10, 1870. His marriage with Miss Jennie Owen was solemnized while he was a resident of that state. Shortly after their marriage the couple came to Illinois, Rev. Mr. Thero having served as pastor of the Methodist churches of Enfield, Grafton, Flat Rock, Wood River, Gillespie, Staunton and Madison. Two years ago he served as the superintendent of the M. E. Orphans Home in Mt. Vernon. He was serving his second year as pastor of the Bond Ave. church in East St. Louis at the time of his death. Rev. Mr. Thero studied law before becoming a minister. He was an eloquent speaker. He is survived by his widow and 2 children – Mrs. George M. Nessl, Staunton, and Samuel Griffith Thero, a teacher in the mission school in Lucknow, India. Ministers of the Southern Conference were in charge of the funeral services sat. Burial was in Memorial Park cemetery at Staunton, Illinois.
THIEL. Died 21-02-1980. The funeral of Lillie M. Thiel, 72, of 618 Sheppard St., Alton, a former Jerseyville resident, was conducted Sunday afternoon at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Mike Adams officiated and burial was in Kane cemetery. She died at 1:30 pm February 21 at Barnes hospital queenie towers. She was born December 1, 1907 in Cresent, Texas and was the daughter of the late Henry & Minnie (Christian) Jones. Surviving are her husband, Orville Thiel whom she married January 2, 1926; 1 daughter, Janie Pollard of Alton; 5 grandchildren; 4 g-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Clara Payne and Gertrude Saunders, Both of Tucson, Arizona. Three brothers preceded her in death. The American Cancer Society has been named as a memorial.
THIEL. Died 03-1984. Frances Alice Thiel, 86, died at Jersey Community hospital. Born July 9, 1887 in rural Jerseyville, she was a daughter of Adam and Nellie (Lowe) Haynes. She married Fredrick B. Thiel Sr. and he died April 17, 1981. She was a self employed music teacher. She is survived by 2 sons, Fredrick B. Thiel, Jr. of Jerseyville and Henry R. Thiel of San Antonio, Texas. 1 daughter Frances Brook of Kirkwood, Missouri; 8 grandchildren, and 1g-grandchild; and 1 half sister, Mary Woodruff of Carlinville. Services were held at bible Baptist church with burial in Oak Grove cemetery.
THIEL. Died 03-1981. Services for Raymond O. Thiel, 84, of 412 E. Exchange St. Jerseyville, a retired farmer, will be conducted at 2 pm Tuesday from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, by Rev. James Pepper. Burial will be in Kane cemetery. He died at 7:44 am March 14 at Jersey Community hospital. Born in Greene County November 2, 1896, he was a son of the late Nicholas & Anna (Mantz) Thiel. He is survived by his wife, the former Ada Reno, whom he married October 9, 1925 in Kane; 1 son, Ornan Thiel of Jerseyville and 1 Daughter, Betty Johnson of Rockbridge; 5 grandchildren and 6 g-grandchildren; 2 Brothers, Walter of Rockbridge and Fred of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by 5 sisters & 4 brothers. Visitation from 4-9 pm Monday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The American Diabetes Association has been named as a memorial.

He was born January 26, 1891 in Greene County, a son of the late Nicholas & Anna (Mantz) Thiel. His survivors are his wife, the former Alice Haynes whom he married August 27, 1931 in Carrollton; 2 Sons, Fred B. Thiel Jr. of Jerseyville and Henry R. Thiel of San Antonio, Texas; 1 daughter, Frances Brock of Kirkwood, Missouri, 8 grandchildrenand 2 g-grandchildren; 1 brother, Walter of Rockbridge and 1 sister, Rosa A. Whitlock of Carrollton. Five (5) sisters and 5 brothers also preceded him in death. The Bible Baptist church of which he was a member was named as a memorial.

She was born June 16, 1896 in Greene County, near Kane, daughter of Wm. C. & Susan I. Reno. She married Raymond O. Thiel who died March 14, 1981. She leaves 1 son, Ornan Thiel of Jerseyville, 1 daughter, Betty Johnson of Rockbridge, 5 grandchildren and 7 g-grandchildren. 2 brothers and 3 sisters preceded her in death.
THIEL. Died 25-02-1982. Services were conducted Monday am at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville for Orville T. Thiel, 76, 618 Sheppard St., Alton, who died at 8:15 pm February 25 at D’adrian convalescent center, Alton. The Rev. Mike Adams officiated. He was born September 27, 1906 in Alton, a son of the late George & Dora (Stone) Thiel and was a WWII army veteran. He retired in 1970 after 30 years service as a machinist at Olin Brass. He is survived by 1 daughter, Janie Pollard of Alton; 5 grandchildren and 8 g-grandchildren; 1 brother, George Thiel of Calumet, Oklahoma, 1 sister, Edith Scoggins of Jerseyville. His wife, the former Lillie Jones whom he married January 2, 1926 in Duncan, Oklahoma, died February 21, 1980. He was also preceded in death by 1 sister and 2 brothers. Burial was in Kane cemetery. The American Cancer Society has been named as a memorial.
THIEL. Died 03-01-1985. Services for Walter Ira Thiel, 91, of Rockbridge, were conducted Saturday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, by Rev. William Schmidt. His death occurred at 5:55 am January 3 at Boyd Memorial hospital, Carrollton. A farmer, he was born September 5, 1893 to the late Nicholas & Anna (Mantz) Thiel and was a WWI veteran. He is survived by his wife, the former Estella (Budt) whom he married August 25, 1925 in Carlinville; 2 sons William of Carrollton and Robert of Rockbridge; 1 grandchild; and 1 g-grandchild. His parents, 12 brothers and sisters preceded him in death. The Jerseyville American Legion conducted graveside services at Oak Grove cemetery, Jerseyville. Memorials of one’s choice.
THOMAS. Born 14-08-1890. Henry N. Thomas, 96, died at 2:05 am today, Thursday, January 15, 1987, at Blu-Fountain Manor in Godfrey. Thomas was a carpenter, born in Jersey County, son of the late William henry & Eliza Jane (Mcauley) Thomas. He married the former Alice Helena (Ripley) on November 11, 1914, at St. Patrick’s church in Grafton. She died November 1, 1983. Survivors include, sister-in-law Georgia Thomas of Alton; 4 nieces, Marjorie Searles of San Benito, Texas, Mary Virginia Callahan of Florissant, Missouri, Betty Hattery of Edwardsville and Edith Fletcher of Alton. He was the last of 10 children. The funeral was January 17 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton with Rev. Tommy Brewer officiating. Burial was in Scenic Hill cemetery.
THOMAS. Died 01-11-1983. Alice Helena Thomas, 93, of Grafton died November 1 at Blu-Fountain Manor in Godfrey. She was born November 7, 1889, in Grafton to George Rippley & Mary (Kelleher) Rippley. Nov 11, 1914, she married Henry N. Thomas in Grafton. She was a 50 year member of the Royal Neighbors. She leaves her husband, Henry, nieces and nephews. Services weregiven by Father Joseph Deneen, with burial in Scenic Hill cemetery.
THOMAS. Died 23 10-1928. Mrs. Eliza Thomas, 70, was walking along a side walk near a comercial building in Grafton and fell into a cellar left open and she was fataly injured. She died October 23, at her home in Grafton. She was born in Grafton October 22, 1858. In 1879 she married Wm. H. Thomas. She was a member of the Methodist church in Grafton for 40 years. She leaves 5 sons, Mason and Henry of Grafton, Charles and Leslie of Alton, Also Wm. Of Fresno, California; 1 daughter, Mrs. Wm. A. Cook of Wood River. Preceding her in death were her husband, 3 daughters, Clara, Mabel, Blanche and 1 son Harry. Rev. C. J. Struebing presided over services held from her home, with burial in IOOF cemetery.
THOMAS. Died 11-12-1928. Mrs. Nellie Thomas, 41, died at the home of her mother, Mrs. Maria Forks, December 11. She leaves 2 daughters, her mother, 2 sisters and 4 brothers. Her husband was killed in an explosion of the Powder Mill several years ago.
THOMAS. Died 1968. Mrs. Lena Sarah Thomas, 94, widow of Marshall Thomas died at Jersey Community hospital. Born November 18, 1874 in Fieldon. Leaves 152 descendants including 1 son Herbert R. Thomas of Jerseyville, 3 Daughters, Wilma Schaaf of Chesterfield, Martha Sprowell of Carrollton, and Frances Westfall of Springfield; 18 grandchildren, 58, g-grandchildren, and 76 g-g-grandchildren. The funeral was held from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, Rev. James Pepper officiating with burial in Oak Grove cemetery.
THOMAS. Died 04-1980. A former Jerseyville resident, Marjorie (Parsell) Thomas, 63, of Normandy, Missouri, died Wednesday am at Barnes hospital, St. Louis, following an illness of 4 weeks. Born in Jerseyville, a daughter of the late Everett & Gertrude (Wedding) Parsell, she was a retired employee of Doan Agriculture Company. Surviving are 1 Daughter, Trudy Montelth of Manchester, Missouri; and 2 sons, William Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada, and John W. of Memphis, Tennessee. Visitation will be from 2-9 pm today at Lupton Funeral Home, 7233 Delmar, University City. Funeral services willbe held at 10 am Friday at trinity Presbyterian church, 6800 Washington, University City, and burial will be in Valhalla cemetery, St. Louis. The church and the heart fund have been named as memorials.

THOMAS. Died 12-1921. Mrs. Mary Jane Thomas, 83, died at home in Grafton. She is the grandmother of Mrs. Alberta Slaten of Jersey grade school. She leaves 6 children: 4 sons, Wm. and Christopher of Grafton, Geo and John of St. Louis, 2 sisters Mrs. D. C. Slaten and Mrs. E. B. Legate of Marionville, Missouri. Rev. Barrett officiated at services held in Methodist church of Grafton.
THOMAS. Died 02-1983. Herbert R. Thomas, 79, died unexpectedly at 5:46 pm Sunday in the emergency room at Jersey Community hospital. Employed by GM&O railroad, he retired in 1968 after 40 years of service. Born in Jersey County, a son of the late Marshall & Lena (Schmidt) Thomas, he married the former Juanita Lane on June 23, 1956, in Carrollton. In addition to his wife, surviving are 2 Stepchildren, Dick Bowers of Springfield and Jackie Ringhausen of Wood River; 5 grandchildren; and 1 sister, Frances Westfall of Tampa, Florida. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm Tuesday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services will be held there at 2 pm Wednesday with the Rev. R. E. George officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. The heart fund has been named as a memorial.
THOMAS (THOMAE ?). Died 1983. Reba E. Thomae, 90, formerly of Shipman, died at 5:30 pm Sunday at Weatherford Sunshine Manor in Carlinville. Born in Shipman, daughter of the late Tremont & Elizabeth (Forwood) Clark, she married Walter W. Thomae on December 31, 1919. He died May 11, 1964. Surviving are a brother, Ralph Clark of Mesa, Arizona; and a half sister, Janet Carr of Bethalto. Visitation will be after 5 pm at Jacoby-Wise funeral home in Shipman, where services will be conducted at 11 am Thursday with Rev. Everett Hageman officiating. Burial will be in Shipman cemetery. THOMAS. Died 04-04-1956. Mrs. Mary L. Thomas, a resident of Jerseyville for many years, died Wednesday afternoon April 4, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Maynard Dunham, at Roseau, Minnesota, where she had been visting for the past month. Since leaving Jerseyville 4 and 1/2 years ago, Mrs. Thomas had made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Guyaux at Warroad, Minnesota. She suffered a stroke of Easter Sunday, April 1. The decedent was a daughter of the late Benjamin & Lydia (Gibbs) Dunham and was born at Fieldon October 25, 1872. Her age at time of death was 83 years, 5 months, and 9 days. She was the widow of Frank Thomas. Mrs Thomas had resided in Jersey County all of her lifetime until going to Minnesota. Surviving her in addition to her son and daughter are 13 grandchildren and 24 g-grandchildren. Mrs Thomas was an aunt of Miss Cora Lofton of this city and Raymond Lofton of Roseau, Minnesota. The body will be brought to the Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville and the services will be held Monday afternoon, April 9. Mr. & Mrs. Raymond Dunham, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Guyaux and Raymond Lofton will accompany the body to Jerseyville.
THOMAS. Died 04-03-1904. Mrs. Ardena Thomas, 34, wife of F. M. Thomas died at home March 4, 1904. The funeral was held from the Baptist church, Dr. Jay A. Ford officiating.
THOMAS. Died 1941. Funeral services for John Thomas, who died Tuesday at Boyd Memorial hospital were held Wednesday afternoon at Simpson’s Funeral Home with Dr John W. Crouch, pastor of the Baptist church, officiating. Burial was in Rockbridge cemetery. Mr. Thomas and family resided on a farm near Rockbridge before moving to Carrollton. He is survived by his wife, 4 sons, Joe of Kansas City, Olin Thomas, of Omaha and Roy & Ray of Carrollton; 1 daughter, Edith of Kansas City.
THOMASSON. Died 08-12-1975. Final services for Norman Earl Thomasson, 73, a Kane resident most of his life, were held December 10 at Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton with Rev. John Sims of Dow, pastor of Kane United Methodist church officiating. He died at 11:45 am on December 8 at Boyd Memorial hospital after a long illness. Thomasson had resided at the Mt. Gilead Nursing Home.
THOMASSON. Hazel M. Thomasson, 64, was pronounced dead at 12:08 pm Tuesday, October 1, 1991, at her home. She worked at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville for 13 years, retiring in 1988. Born on December 12, 1926, in Fieldon, she was a daughter of the late Robert & Myrtle (Turner) Reynolds. She married Don Thomasson on November 4, 1945, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He survives. Also surviving are 4 daughters, Marilyn Woolsey and Connie Cooper, both of Kane, Donna Winters of Carrollton and Judy Ritchey of Medora; 10 grandchildren; 3 g-grandchildren; and 1 brother, William Reynolds of Show Low, Arizona. She was preceded in death by1 brother, Paul M. Reynolds; and 1 sister, Roberta M. Hendy. Visitation is from 5-8 pm Friday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Eastern Star rites are at 7 pm. Funeral services are at 2 pm Saturday at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Dorothy Fellhauer officiating. Burial is in Mount Gilead cemetery near Carrollton. THOMPSON. Rose M. Thompson, 91, died at 10:20 pm Sunday, February 24, 1991, at Jersey Community hospital. She was born in Calhoun County, daughter of the late Frank & Mary (Osterman) Schleeper and was a member of Jersey County Home Ext. She and Ernest Thompson were married in 1926 in Hardin. He died in 1971. Surviving are 1 son, Joseph Thompson of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Virginia Ritter, Jerseyville and Helen Powers of Hardin; 14 grandchildren; 1 step grandson; and 11 g-grandchildren. 1 granddaughter and 7 brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Visitation is from 5-9 pm at Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville. A funeral mass is at 10 am Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic church in Jerseyville, where she was a member. Rev. David Allen Thompson, 4 months, son of James E. and Debra Ann Haun Thompson of Jerseyville who was born August 23, died at 11:35 am December 27 at their residence, 903 Sumner. In addition to his parents, the baby is survived by 2 brothers, James E. Thompson Jr. and Brandon Thompson, and 1 sister, Amie Thompson, at home; grandparents, Bill and Esther Haun of Jerseyville and James and Artie Thompson of Dow; and g-grandparents, A. J. She was a member of Eastern Star and Royal Neighbor Camp of Fieldon.
THOMPSON. Died 06-1926. Mrs. Edith Thompson, 33, mother of 4 children, died at home near Fieldon from dropsy. She was the daughter of Leroy and Mrs. (Medford) born in Fieldon vicinity. In 1914, she graduated from JTHS. She had been a member of the Royal Neighbors. She leaves her husband, Wm. Thompson; 3 Daughters, Dorothy Lucille, Ureta Grace, and Opal Irene; 1 son Herschel Leroy,; and 2 brothers, Herschel and Beeman, living near Fieldon. Rev. Jos. Jenkins officiated at the service, held from her home, with burial in Gunterman cemetery.

Services for William “Bill” Thompson, 89, of Kane were held Saturday am at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton with Revs. Jack Brown and Peter Ely officiating burial was in Kane cemetery. He died at 5:40 am July 16 at his residence. Born in Greene County, he was a son of the late C. K. & Elizabeth Thompson and was a retired employee from the former International Shoe Company plant in Jerseyville. His survivors are his wife, the former Marguerite (Krohn) whom he married December 11, 1970, in Kane; 3 Daughters, Dorothy Long of Edwardsville, Grace Bond of Bunkerhill and Opal Robinson of Alton; 10 grandchildren; 18 g-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Ida Nelson of Hartford. The Kane Baptist church where he was a member has been named as a memorial.
THOMPSON. Died 1972. Funeral services for Wesley Thompson, 74, of 608 W. Pearl St., Jerseyville, were held at 2 pm Monday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. M. The death of Mr. Thompson, a retired government surveyor, occurred at 7:20 Saturday am at Garnet’s Chateau where he had been residing. THOMPSON. Died 08-02-1956. Grant Thompson, 79, a former resident of the western part of Jersey County, died at 5 am Wednesday, February 8, 1956, at Alton Memorial hospital. He was taken to the hospital Tuesday evening after suffering a stroke of paralysis at the home of his brother, Blaine Thompson in Alton where he made his home. The deceased was a son of the late A. J. & Elizabeth (Smith) Thompson and was born in Jersey County, September 12, 1877. He had engaged in farming until his retierment 2 years ago. Friends may call at the Gent Chapel in Alton where funeral services will be held at 2 pm Friday. Rev. Leroy Dude will officiate and burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park (Godfrey).

Mrs. Elizabeth (Greer) Thompson, 88, a former resident of Jersey County, died Wednesday, August 26, at St. Joseph hospital in Alton where she had been removed for treatment of complications that developed following a hip fracture. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 29, at 2 pm at the Streeper Funeral Home in Wood River. Mrs Thompson, widow of Columbus K. Thompson, was born in Athens, Illinois, March 15, 1865. Her husband and 6 children preceded her in death. Surviving Mrs. Thompson are 3 daughters, Mrs. W. Hendrickson, of Eldred, Mrs. Ella Borman of Pasadena, Texas, and Mrs. George Forsting of Hartford; and 7 sons, Marshall of Versailles, William of Olive Branch, Logan of Godfrey, Lawrence of Alton, Clarence of Hartford, Roy of Wood River, and Russell of Edwardsville. She also leaves 67 grandchildren, 48 g-grandchildren and 3 g-g-grandchildren.
THOMPSON. Died 13-08-1947. Prior Brooken Thompson, 79, a retired farmer of Rosedale vicinity, died Friday August 13, at a hospital in Alton. He was a son of the Late Andrew J. and Elizabeth (Smith) Thompson and born in Jersey County, December 28,1868. He leaves 2 brothers, Grant and Blaine Thompson of Fieldon and 1 sister, Della Thompson of Fieldon. Funeral is from Rosedale Methodist church August 15, the Rev. Edgar Purdy serving with burial in Rosedale cemetery.
THOMPSON. Died 06-1982. The funeral of Effie L. Thompson, 82, of Alton was held Friday afternoon at Smith Funeral Home, Alton where Eastern Star rites were conducted Thursday evening. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. Her death occurred at 1:45 am May 26 at VIP Manor Nursing Home, Wood River. Born in Jersey County, she was a daughter of the Late Luther & Lillie (Meyers) Johnson and married Blaine Thompson on October 22, 1922 in Jerseyville. He died March 18, 1975. Her survivors are 1 brother, Clifford Johnson, of Wood River and 1 sister, Elva Phillips of Edwardsville. The Main St. United Methodist church has been named as a memorial.
THOMPSON. Died 06-07-1991. Ralph James Thompson, 81, died at 8:22 pm Saturday, July 6, 1991, at Jersey Community hospital. He was a welder and machinist for Baughman Manufacturing in Jerseyville for 30 years and was scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 59 for 4 years. Born on August 7, 1909, in Songdo, Korea, he wasa son of the late J. Arthur & Anna (Reihl) Thompson. He married Dorothy Lilliam (Hooper) Thompson on December 11, 1952, in Jerseyville. Surviving are his wife; 1 sister, Elanor Dodds of Frederick; and 1 brother, Erwin Thompson of Godfrey. 1 sister, Alice Johnson and 1 brother, Willard Thompson preceded him in death. Following an extended period of ill health. A son of the late Grant and Lula White Thompson, he was born in Jersey County where he spent most of his life. Mr. Thompson, 71, is survived by his wife, Rose (Schleeper); 2 daughters, Mrs. Barry Ritter of Jerseyvllle and Mrs. Charles Powers of Fieldon; 1 son, Joe of Hardin; 14 grandchildren; 1 g-grandchild; 1brother Wesley Thompson of Jerseyville, and 1 sister Mrs. Edgar Dirksmeyer of Godfrey. The family has designated the American Cancer Society as a memorial.

THOMPSON. Died 21-10-1909. Sarah Anna Thompson, 77 years, 6 months, 29 days, daughter of Wm. G. & Sarah Thompson, was born near Nashville, Tennesee, ??, 22, 1832. When 5 years old she removed with her parents to Indiana. After having resided in that state 7 years, she came to Illinois, locating at Greenville, Bond County. Later she came to Jersey County where she resided until her death, with her brother Wm. G. Thompson Jr. and his family. Aunt Sarah, as she was affectionately known, early in life accepted Christ as her saviour and united with the Methodist church. While in her declining years she was not an active member of the church she “kept her faith”. Keeping the commandments as her guide, she was charitable to the needy, sympathetic to those in sorrow and had a kind word for everyone. She was never married, but was a mother to the motherless and a friend to all. Throughout her affliction, which ended in her death, she was a patient sufferer and as the end drew near she expressed her willingness to go, saying she felt fully prepared to meet her God. Aunt Sarah was one of a family of 13 children, of whom 3 survive her: Andrew J. Thompson of Rosedale; Mrs. Jane Wilcox, of Portland, Oregon, and Mrs. Mary Grahm, of Browns, Edwards County Illinois. She died at the home of her nephew, Grant Thompson, Rosedale, Illinois, October 21, 1909, at 4:30 pm. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. D. Crawford at Rosedale Methodist church October 23, 1909 at 2 pm. Interment in Rosedale cemetery. The following poem was printed with the obituary: Mourn not her dead. Let her calmly lie, by God’s own hand composed to rest; for hark! A voice from yonder sky, proclaims her blest – supremely blest. THOMPSON. Raymond C. Thompson, 65, died at 6:20 am Tuesday, November 29, 1988, at St. Louis University Medical Center, following a lengthy illness. The US army WWII veteran was a painter at Principia College in Elsah 31 years, retiring in 1986. Born in Greene County, he was the son of the late Logan & Viola (Bowers) Thompson. He married the Former Rose Irene Scoggins July 20, 1946, in Kane, and she survives. Also surviving are 4 daughters, Betty Cummings of Jerseyville, Hazel June Turner of Dow, Joyce Beavers of Medora and Janet Vanmeter of Jerseyville; 11 grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary Brown of California and Cecile Russell of Brighton; 5 brothers, Truman Thompson of Godfrey, Russell Thompson of Kane, Herman “Pete” Thompson of Tacoma, Washington, Donald Thompson of Granite City and James Thompson of Dow. Preceding him in death were 2 brothers, Charles William and Logan Thompson Jr.; and 1 sister, Hazel Mae Thompson. There will be no visitation. Private services will be conducted at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. William Turner will officiate, with burial in Mount Gilead cemetery near Carrollton. Memorials may be given to Newbern Assembly of God church, where Thompson had been a member.
THORINGTON. Died 1918. Cora Anna Thorington, 1, died at the home of her mother in the east part of town. The funeral was from the home with Rev. jeffery officiating, burial in Oak Grove cemetery. The child died of the flu and her father, who had been employed as a fireman at the water works, died last week of the same illness. The mother and 3 other children all have been ill. The family came here not long ago from Missouri.

THORMON. Died 1918. Remains of Alphus Thormon, 70, were brought to Hartford church Sunday am. Mayor J. W. Newland? conducted service. He had been born and raised in Hartford area. He died at the home of a daughter in Alton, burial in Hartford cemetery.
THORNTON. Died 09-08-1977. Services for Oron Lee (Jack) Thornton, 70, of 408 N. Giddings St. Jerseyville, will be held at 2 pm August 12 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with the Rev. Eugene Cope officiating. Burial will be in Jalappa cemetery. He died at 10 pm, August 9 at Jersey Community hospital. He was born December 16, 1906, in Illinois, a son of Holly & Lula (Deeds) Thornton and was a farm laborer. Thornton was a member of the Haypress Baptist church, Eldred. His survivors are a Son, Rodger Thornton of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Mrs. Victor (Genevieve) Tepen of Jerseyville and Mrs. Curtis (Janet) Hill of Batchtown; 11 grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs. Morris (Ollie) Fell of Chicago; 2 Brothers, Arthur Thornton of Greenfield and Louis Thornton of Jerseyville. THOROMAN. Died 04-03-1892. Ollie Thoroman, 16, born in Rosedale township March 1, 1875, died at her home in Rosedale March 4, 1892. Funeral was by Rev. George Medford. She was the oldest daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Alpha Thoroman. She was full of pure devotion to her parents, and exercised christianity in holy and holieness. Dr Tidball did all in his power to save her. “”lovely daughter, be soft thy sleep, angels their vigils o’re thee keep, blest daughter, sweet be thy repose thy friend the world’s redeemer shows, in the bosom of the ground, and spread theirguardian wings around to thee brighest hopes are given, true christians are the heirs of heaven”.
THORTON. Died 1971. Mrs. Lucille Thorton of 214 Goodrich St., Jerseyville, died at 5:55 Saturday evening at Jersey Community hospital. Visitation hours were held Monday afternoon and evening at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held there at 2 pm Tuesday Rev. Carlton Christenson, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs Thorton, widow of George Thorton, was born in Jersey County April 26, 1892, a daughter of the late Ezra T. and Harriet (Gorham) Woodruff. Her only immediate survivor is 1 sister, Mrs. Virginia Fleming.
THRELKELD. Died 05-03-1991. George T. Threlkeld, 74, died at 4:39 am Tuesday, March 5, 1991, at Jersey Community hospital, Jerseyville, after a lengthy illness. He was a district conservationist with the US Department of Agriculture for 30 years, retiring in 1977, and was a US air force WWII veteran. Memberships included Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 and Jerseyville Rotary Club. He currently served on the Jerseyville Planning Commision and was a former Jersey Community Hospital Board member. Born in Golconda, he was the son of the late Harry & Orpha (Taylor) Threlkeld. On October 14, 1945, in Piggott, Arkansas, he married the former Fern Rumsey. She survives. Also surviving are 2 Daughters, Sue Drainer of Odessa, Texas, and Ann Allred of Godfrey; 4 grandchildren; a sister, Ines Mcmahon of San Diego, California; and 2 Brothers, Calvin Threlkeld of Port Byron and Bill Threlkeld of Padukah, Kentucky. A brother, Donald Threlkeld, preceded him in death. Visitation is from 4-8 pm Thursday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Visitation continues from 10 am Friday until service time at 11 am at the First United Methodist church in Jerseyville. Rev. Dan Harry will officiate. Burial is in Oak Grove cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the church, where he was a member, or the physical therapy department of Jersey Community hospital.
THURM. Died 02-05-1973. Funeral services for Alma Louise Thurm, 51, were held Sunday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with Rev. A. A. Ledebuhr officiating. Her death occurred at her residence, 206 E. Spruce St., on May 2. Interment was in Fieldon cemetery. She was born March 5,1922 in Beardstown, the daughter of Louis & Elizabeth Thurm. She was a secretary. Her only survivor is a sister Mrs. Robert (Marguerite)upton of Tempe, Arizona. Visitation was held at the Funeral Home.

THURSTON. Died 16-12-1988. Thelma Faye Thurston, 83, of Jerseyville, died December 16 at Jersey Community hospital. She was born August 25, 1905, in Kane to the late George Brown and Mae (Allen) Brown. She married William Henry Thurston who died June 3, 1957. She was an employee of the International Shoe Company for 10 years and a nurse’s aide at Jersey Community hospital. Survivors include 3 sons, John, William, and Richard Thurston, all of Jerseyville; 1 daughter, Betty Crotchett of Kane; 4 sisters, Rose Luman of East Alton, Ruth Malone of Oaji, California, Ethel Wade of Alton and Jackie Krause of Wood River; 2 brothers, Bob of Norwald, California, and Lee Brown of Hartford; 19 grandchildren, and 32 g-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by 1 son, Jim Thurston and 1 sister, Idella Levine. Funeral service was December 19 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with the Rev. Simon A. Simon officiating. Burial was in St. Francis cemetery. Memorials may be made to Jersey Community hospital.
THURSTON. Died 01-01-1988. James Louis Thurston, 56, formerly of Jerseyville, died at 1:30 am Monday, February 1, 1988, in Phoenix, Arizona, following a brief illness. Thurston was born in Jerseyville, a son of Thelma (Brown) Thurston of Jerseyville and the late William H. Thurston. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict and a crew leader at Owen-Illinois Glass Company. In Alton. Surviving in addition to his mother are 2 daughters, Jamie Snyder of Arvada, Colorado, and Karen Scastaneda of Salt Lake City, Utah; 1 sister, Betty Crotchett of Kane; 3 brothers, John, Richard and William Thurston; 6 grandchildren; and 16 nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with Rev. Rick Francis officiating. Burial was in St. Francis cemetery in Jerseyville with graveside rites by the Jerseyville American Legion Post No. 492. Memorials were to the American Cancer Society.

THURSTON. Died 16-08-1988. Clessie M. Thurston, 61, died unexpectedly at 9:30 am Tuesday, August 16, 1988, at Christian hospital northeast in Florissant, Missouri of an apparent heart attack. Born in Kane, she was the daughter of Pauline (Abbot) Turner of Jerseyville and the late William Turner. She married William Thurston October 9, 1948, and he survives. In addition to her husband and mother, surviving are 3 daughters, Jean Simpson and Jill Thurston, both of Jerseyville, Kane, Jane Runkel of Springfield; 1 son, William Thurston II of Sumpter, South Carolian, 6 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Bonnie Hetzel of Kane and Sherry Koupal of Loma Linda, California; and 1 brother Rev. William Turner of Godfrey. A son preceded her in death. Visitation will be 4-9 pm Thursday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where a prayer service will be read at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am Friday at St. Francis Xavier church in Jerseyville, with the Rev. Henry Schmidt as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to masses or St. Francis Catholic school in Jerseyville.
THURSTON. Died 05-1888. Lewis Thurston, 74, died Tuesday am at his home on Arch St. He was born in Ohio in 1814 and moved to Jerseyville in 1855. He leaves a wife and 1 daughter, Mrs. Stoeckel. Rev. Scarritt presided over service.
