RABB. Died 1927. H. J. Raab, 45, local farmer, was found dead in the yard near Gisy’s store. He was found by Earl Bates. A sudden attack of heart disease is believed to have caused his death. He leaves his wife and several children.
RACE. Died 14-11-1926. James Parker Race, 72, died at his home November 14. He was known to many friends as “Gundy”. He was born in Hampshire County, West Virginia, August 10, 1854, son of Augustus and Elizabeth (Parker) Race. He lived on farm near Kane on the old Race homestead. Surviving are 1 sister, Jennie Race. Rev. O. B. Kinsey served at the funeral with burial in Kane cemetery.
RAFTIS. Died 06-02-1960. Martha Jane Raftis, 78 years, 5 months, 3 days, widow of Tom Raftis, died at 6:45 pm Saturday February 6, at Green Lawn Nursing Home. She had been a resident there for 6 days. Funeral services were held at 9:30 Tuesday am February 9, at St. Francis Xavier church . Requiem mass was celebrated by Father Terry R. Shea and burial was in St. Francis cemetery. Mrs. Raftis, a daughter of the late John & Mary (McManus) Hewitt, was born in Jersey County, September 3, 1881. The decedent is survived by 1 son, Donald Raftis of Jerseyville; 1 daughter, Mrs. Truman Jones of Brighton; 7 grandchildren, and 1 Brother, Fred Hewitt, of Fieldon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Raftis.
RAFTUS. Died 1917. Mrs. I, 75, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Shortal, southwest of Jerseyville, January 13. Funeral was held Monday am from St. Francis Xavier church, Rev. J. J. Clancy, celebrant. Interment was in St. Francis cemetery.
RAGAN. Died 09-08-1976. Robert E. “Red” Ragan, 70, of Fieldon died at 3:10 pm on August 9 at St. Joseph hospital, alton. Services were conducted on August 11 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Jerry L. Belden officiated. Interment was in Rose Lawn Memorial Garden. Ragan was a retired construction worker and a WWI Navy veteran. He was a member of Bethalto Masonic Lodge and Wood River Moose Lodge. His survivors include his widow, Myrtle “Dottie” (Ford) Ragan; 1 daughter, Mrs. Jake (Fern) Pentland of Alton; 10 grandchildren; 3 g-grandchildren, Robert Coffman, Grafton, Charles Coffman, Fieldon, Mrs. Ray (Jacqueline) Talbot, Bethalto; 1 sister Mrs. Odessa Williams of Buchannon, Georgia. 1 son preceded him in death. Masonic services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, Tuesday evening.
RAHN. Died 1981. Ethel Irene Rahn, 83, of 112 E. Second St., Hartford, died recently. A native of Fieldon, she was a daughter of the late Henry & Amelia (Luft) Seehausen. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry Bowers. She then married August Rahn on January 18, 1941, he survives. Services were held Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran church and burial was in Fieldon cemetery. Other survivors are 1 daughter, Elaine Slow, of Hartford; 1 son Robert L. Bowers, Hartford; 2 stepsons; grandchildren and g-grandchildren; and 2 Brothers, Harold and Louis Seehausen, both of Hartford.
RAINEY. Died 09-1911. Mrs. Kate M. Rainey, 73, widow of the late John Rainey died at her home in Jerseyville. She was a daughter of Col. Samuel Thomas, a pioneer settler of Greene County, having settled southwest of this city November, 9, 1818. The family was the first of the white settlers north of Macoupin Creek in Greene County. He was born in Pendleton County, South Carolina, September 13, 1794 and married Elizabeth Isley, (born in Sullivan County, Tennessee, September 2, 1796), June 4, 1816. When he and his wife arrived at their log cabin in Greene County from Wood River in what is now known as Madison County, John was their only child. He was a man of remarkable ability and while he was developing the wild prairies, had many encounters with the Indians, who then roamed the country. A number of his realities had been slain at Wood River by Indians and he had become familiar with the depredations of those savages. He was the father of 12 children, all of whom are dead except Mrs. Matilda Clemmons, widow of the late Dr. C. P. Clemmons, who now resides in California, and Mrs. Elizabeth Clemmons, widow of the late John Clemmons, now residing near Virden, in Macoupin County. Samuel Thomas became prominent in Greene County affairs before his death December 22, 1873. Mrs. Kate Thomas was youngest of 12 children and born on the old homestead southwest of Carrollton May 3, 1838. She married John Rainey September 9, 1859. John Rainey died April 15, 1887, leaving her and 3 children: Henry T. Rainey residing on a farm southwest of this city. She had resided in this community all her life and was a member of the Episcopal church. She had a good mind and great interest in public affairs. She had seen the wild prairies of Greene County developed into opulency, and was one of the few remaining of the pioneer families of Greene County. The funeral was from her home on September 6.
RAMEY. Lauren Elizabeth Ramey, 11, died 7:24 am Sunday, December 29, 1991, at Springfield. Born August 17, 1980, in Springfield, she was the daughter of former Jerseyville resident Margaret “Peggy” (Pohlman) and Gregory Ramey of Springfield. Also surviving are her grandparents, Bernard & Marcella Schroeder of Jerseyville and William & Bunny Ramey of Springfield; and her g-grandmother, Celia Groppel of Jerseyville. Visitation is from 5-8 pm today at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield. A funeral mass is at 11:30 am Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament church in Springfield with Rev. James J. Schroeder as celebrant. Burial is in Calvary cemetery in Springfield.
RANDOLPH. Lewis Randolph, 83, died at his home near Delhi on Saturday, October 8, 1892. He was the son of Peter & Harriet F. Randolph, and was born in Bernards township, Somerset County, New Jersey. He was a blacksmith by trade, Louis (Lewis?) worked on his father’s farm. He married Mary Ann (Compton) Randolph on May 24, 1828. She was the daughter of Moore & May (Anderson) Compton, born March 28, 1810. In 1837, he, his wife and 3 children and Elizabeth Compton, sister of his wife, (now Mrs. J. K. Stelle). Bryant Cross, Jacob K. Stelle, Isaac Goltra now Dr. Goltra of Springfield, Illinois, Stephen Sutton and James T. Harris, started on the long journey west, traveling in wagons. Some of the trip was pleasant but in Illinois they had to travel over new cut road. On November 21, they came to Jacksonville, Illinois. Mr. Randolph (selected??) the place where he lived until his death, on part of the 13th Section of Township 7, Range 11, then a part of Greene County. He Was School Treasurer, Director of Farmers Insurance Co. He leaves his wife and 5 children.
RANDOLPH. Died 26-02-1943. Miss Alice Randolph of Jerseyville died February 26 at St. Anthony hospital in Alton.
RANDOLPH. Alvira Cory (Cowen) Randolph, 37, born April 10, 1882, died September 12, 1919. She attended local schools, also Girard High School, Mckendree College, and taught for 5 years. Active worker in church work, she married Oliver Perry Randolph February 9, 1916 and lived about 14 moon? the Randolph farm. Last year and one half of their married life was in La Valle, Missouri. She leaves her husband, mother 5 sisters Mrs. Emma Bond of Indianapolis, Indiana, Mrs. Ella Waggoner of Lebanon, Illinois, Mrs. W. P. Richards, Lela and Myrtle Cowen, and 1 brother Frank, of Jerseyville.
RANDOLPH. Died 05-1868. Mrs. Anna Randolph, late of New Jersey, died at the home of Lewis Randolph near Delhi.
RANDOLPH. Died 15-10-1974. Anna Augusta Randolph, 84, of Rural Route 2, Jerseyville will be celebrated at 9:30 am Friday, October at Holy Ghost church with Rev. Father Robert L. Heintz officiating. Her death occurred at 7:45 pm on October 15 at Reisch Mem Home, Carrollton. Interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Visitation hours will be held after 4 pm today, October 17. At Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where the rosary will be recited at pm. She was born April 23, 1890 in Jerseyville the daughter of Peter & Wilhemnia (Flamm) Steckle. Her husband was the late Thomas Watson Randolph. Mrs. Randolph is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. Maurice (Ruth) Dahmus of Onamia, Minnesota; 4 sons, Preston, Thomas, and John of Jerseyville and William of Carrollton; 21 grandchildren; g-grandchildren; 1 brother, Peter Steckel of Jerseyville and 2 sisters Minnie Steckel of Carrollton and Mrs. George Horn of Jerseyville. Her parents, husband, brothers, sisters and 1 grandson preceded her in death.
RANDOLPH. Died 16-03-1896. Charles David Randolph, 24 years 6 months, died at his home near Jerseyville, Thursday, January 16, 1896. Charley was a model young man and an earnest Christian worker. He resided on the farm with his parents and was at all times a dutiful son. Only 2 months ago he became a charter member of Steelmam Camp, MWA, who attended the funeral in a body and conducted the services at the grave. Rev. J. J. Porter officiated at funeral in the Baptist church Sunday afternoon.
RANDOLPH. Died 28-12-1959. Jennie B. Randolph, 83 years, 8 months, and 16 days, died Monday afternoon, December 28, in Alton. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, Wednesday December 30, at 10 am. Rev. Earl Dickey, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Miss Randolph was a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Oliver Randolph and she was born in Jersey County on April 12, 1876. She was the last member of her family.
RANDOLPH. Died 1914. Mrs. Kate Randolph, 54, died at St. John hospital in St. Louis.
RANDOLPH. Died 1896. Mrs. Lewis (Mary) Randolph, 86, a member of one of the pioneer families who came to this county, settling here in the year of 1838 and living on the old homestead until her death. She was born in 1810 and was a member of the Baptist church. Surviving are 5 children: P. J. Randolph of St. Louis, Abe Randolph of Virden, Mrs. Harriet Moore of Kansas city, Mrs. Kate Clapp of Oklahoma, and Ruth Randolph of Jerseyville. Rev. J. Bulkley. (See Prairie Schooner-Spring 1982).
RANDOLPH. Mrs. Mary Randolph, 65, died at her home northeast of this city, Monday October 1, 1906, after a long illness. The funeral services were held from the residence at 2 pm Monday, Rev. W. W. Hicks officiating.
RANDOLPH. Born 28-04-1815. Mary F. Randolph, 74, died at the home of her brother, Lewis Randolph, near Delhi on November 20, 1889. She was the daughter of Peter & Harriet F. Randolph and was born in Somersett County New Jersey. She was the youngest of 4 children. In 1862, Mary and her sister, Ann moved to Illinois, and made their home with their brother Lewis, of Delhi. Lewis is now the only survivor of the family. She had joined the seventy day Baptist church at Plainfield, New Jersey. Funeral from the home, Rev. W. H. Avery, of the Baptist church officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.
RANDOLPH. Died 04-08-1868. Oliver Randolph, 58, died at his home near Jerseyville. He was born September 13, 1815, at Millington, Somersett County, New Jersey. He came to Jerseyville in the spring of 1837. He leaves his widow, 1 sister, 3 brothers and his 81 year old father. Funeral from Baptist church, Rev. Isaac N. Hill officiating.

RANDOLPH. Died 09-02-1924. Preston Randolph, 64, died February 9, 1924. He was the son of George & Mary Randolph, pioneer residents of Jersey County. He leaves his wife and 2 children by a former marriage, Watson Randolph and Cordelia Randolph of Oak Park, Illinois. Funeral was from home, Rev. Jenkins officiating. Burial in Oak Grove cemetery.
RANDOLPH. Mrs. Sarah Randolph, 67 years, 2 months, died at her home in this city Sunday, March 17, 1907. She had been in fairly good health, her daughter, Miss Harriet found her dead in her rocking chair. Her other daughter are, Mrs. Dr. Cook of Upper Alton and Mrs. Barr of Carlinville. The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church at 1 pm Wednesday, Rev. W. H. Jordan officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.
RANDOLPH. Thomas Watson Randolph, 69 years, 8 months, 22 days, well known retired farmer died Friday pm December 7, 1962, at Jersey Community hospital, where he had been a patient for 5 days. He had been in failing health for some time. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where the rosary was recited Sunday evening. Final rites were held Monday at 9:30 am at Church of the Holy Ghost. Requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. Cornelius Horn of Dalton City, nephew of the decedent assisted by the pastor, Father P. P. Heinlein. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. The retired Jersey County farmer was the son of the late Preston & Addie (Watson) Randolph and was born in Jersey County on March 15, 1893. He spent his entire lifetime in Jersey County. Mr. Randolph is survived by his wife, Mrs. Anna Augusta (Steckel) Randolph; 4 sons, Preston, Thomas and John Randolph of Jerseyville and William Randolph of Carrollton; 1 daughter, Mrs. Maurice (Ruth) Dahmus of Peru, Nebraska; 18 grandchildren; 1 g-grandchild; and 1 sister Mrs. Thomas J. Brown of Bradenton, Florida. 1 grandson James Randolph, preceded him in death.
RANGE. Died 02-01-1987. Harold R. Range, 74, of St. Petersburg, Florida, died January 2 at St. Anthony hospital in St. Petersburg. He was born in Palmyra, son of the Late Chester & Maude (Grimmett) Range; he married Dorothy (Strunk) on April 8, 1939. Range had been the owner/operator of Range Service Station in Medora and Medora truck stop. He later owned and operated restaurants in Georgia and Florida. Survivors include his wife; Daughters, Marsha Ray of Atlanta, Georgia, and Saundra Knagge of Orlando, Florida; and 1 grandson. Visitation was at Warner-Targhetta Funeral Home in Medora. Services were held at the Funeral Home with Rev. Charles McDonald officiating. Burial was in Medora cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Liver Foundation.
RANGE. Died 12-01-1973. Lou Ella Range, 101, of Jerseyville who represented the 6th generation of her family. Her death occurred at 10:17 pm, January 12 at Garnet’s Chateau. Rev. Victor Deshea officiated at the rites and interment was in River cemetery. She was born July 2, 1871 in Greene county, a daughter of William & Chalcy (Pittman) Hand. Mrs. Range had lived in Jerseyville since 1960 when she moved here from Greenfield. Her survivors are 3 daughters, Mrs. Mae Miller of Edwardsville, Mrs. Everett (Ina) Fry and Miss Lizzie Range of Jerseyville; 1 son, Lee Range of Virden; 15 grandchildren; 35 g-grandchildren; 51 g-g-grandchildren and 3 g-g-g-grandchildren. 2 children preceded her in death.
RANGE. Died 10-04-1980. Maude Range, 91 of Jerseyville was conducted Monday afternoon at Gubser Funeral Home by Rev. R. E. George. Burial was in Medora cemetery. Her death occurred at 12:35 pm April 10 at Jerseyville Care Center where she resided. She was born December 21, 1888 in Palmyra, a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Houston Grimmett and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She is survived by 1 son Harold Range of St. Petersburg, Florida; 5 grandchildren and 9 g-grandchildren; 1 sister Lela Zellner of Girard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester A. Range who died in October 1941; 1 daughter, Marie Walkington, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
RARRICK. Betty Jean Rarrick, 49, of 729 Mt. Mora Rd., St. Joseph, Missouri, died at 5:30 am July 15 at her residence. Born in Alexander County, she was a daughter of the Late Walter & Velma Rarrick. She is survived by 3 brothers and 1 aunt, Mabel Myers of Jerseyville. Graveside rites were held Friday afternoon at Oak Grove cemetery with Rev. Clyde Myers officiating.
RASTELLO. Died 06-09-1952. Rosa Rastello, 89, died Saturday, September 6, at 10:30 am at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Rosie Schmieder, on North Jefferson St., with whom she had made her home for the past 3 years. Her death followed an illness of 15 month duration. She was born in Italy on March 15, 1863, and had resided in the US for the past 31 years. She was a daughter of the late Dominic & Maldalena (Sandretto) Orso. Mrs. Rastello is survived by 1 son, Adolph Rastello of Hardin; 1 daughter, Mrs. John Orso of Benld, 1 adopted daughter, Mrs. B. J. Laurenti of Collinsville; 7 grandchildren, Mrs. Rosie Schmieder of Jerseyville, Mrs. Neil Carrico of Carrollton, Joseph Orso of Blue Island, Catherine, Viola, Jimmie and Johnnie Laurenti of Collinsville. She also leaves 3 g-grandchildren. Mrs. Rastello was preceded in death by her husband, John Rastello, her parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 9, at 10 am at Holy Ghost church in Jerseyville. Requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. Father P. P. Heinlein. Following the rites here the body was moved to the Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville where friends called until Wednesday afternoon. Services were held there at 2 pm and burial was in St. John cemetery in Collinsville.
RAWE. Died 17-04-1988. August H. Rawe, 80, of Jerseyville, died April 17, 1988, at Garnet’s Chateau in Jerseyville. He was born May 15, 1907, in Carrollton to the Late Herman & Mary (Hemmon) Rawe. He Married Rose Baumann on August 2, 1949, in Hardin. He served in the army during WWII and earned a Purple Heart. He worked in maintenance for 19 years at Owen-Illinois and retired in 1972. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier church in Jerseyville, Knights of Columbus No. 1996 in Carrollton, Moose Lodge, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife, Rose, of Jerseyville 1 son, Denis Rawe of Arcola; 1 daughter Phyllis Harlan of East Alton; 1 sister Ann Rawe of Carrollton; 1 brother Henry Rawe of Carrollton; and half brother Bernard Rawe of Carrollton. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, sister Frances Brinker and brother William Rawe. The funeral was April 19 at St. Francis Xavier church in Jerseyville with Rev. Henry Schmidt officiating. Burial was in St. John cemetery in Carrollton. A memorial has been established to St. Francis church.
RAY. Died 22-09-1979. George E. Ray, 55, of 306 W. Prairie, Jerseyville died unexpectedly at 4:53 pm September 22 at Jersey Community hospital from an apparent heart attack. The WWII veteran was a crane operator at Laclede Steel, Alton. He was born September 9, 1924 in Jerseyville, a son of the late Floyd & Anna (Shanks) Ray. Ray was a member of Jerseyville Veterans of Foreign Wars and United Steel Workers. His survivors are his Wife, Barbara (Lorsbach) Ray whom he married May 19, 1961; 2 son, Tom and James Ray of Jerseyville; 1 daughter, Kathy Ray of Jerseyville; 1 brother, Robert Ray of Jerseyville, 2 sisters Ethyl Kraushaar of Bethalto and Pearl Santa Cruz of Alton; 2 grandchildren. His parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters preceded him in death. Visitation is from 4-9 pm Monday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services will be conducted there at 1:30 pm Tuesday by Rev. R. E. George. Military rites will be conducted at Oak Grove cemetery by VFW and American Legion. Memorials may be given to the Heart Fund.
RAY. Died 29-07-1977. James L. Ray, Sr., 84, of Rural Route 1 Jerseyville, died at Jersey Community hospital, July 29, at 11 am. Funeral services were held August 1 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton, Rev. Clyde Meyers of Delhi Baptist church officiating and interment was in Upper Alton cemetery. Ray was born May 13, 1893 in Greenville the son of William & Nancy (Riggs) Ray. He was a retired farmer and also worked at the International Tannery. Surviving are his wife, Ruth C. (Sugg) Ray, whom he married on March 2, 1915; 1 son James Ray Jr., of Jerseyville; 3 daughters, Viola Rodgers of Rosewood Heights, Vera Byrd of Stockton, California and Virginia Leutzinger of St. Louis, Missouri, 10 grandchildren an 11 g-grandchildren.
READER. Died 23-03-1974. Ray Reader, 84, of Brighton died March 23 at John Cochran veterans hospital in St. Louis where he had been a patient for 3 weeks. He had resided in a boarding home in Shipman. Born February 18, 1890 at Brighton he was the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. George Reader. Following discharge from service in WWI he had been employed as a street car conductor in St. Louis, later moving back to Brighton. Reader was a member of First Presbyterian church and American Legion Post, Brighton, and WWI Barracks No. 986 of Alton. He is survived by 2 nieces, Mrs. Warren Strohbeck and Mrs. Kenneth Jack. Final rites were conducted Tuesday am, March 26, at Warner Funeral Home at Brighton by Rev. Robert Branin. Interment was in Brighton cemetery.
READY. Died 04-02-1975. Bessie Hazel Ready, 68, of 311 Waters St., Grafton, died at 12:10 am February 4 at St. Joseph hospital, Alton. The funeral was held February 6 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton. Rev. James Rhea officiated and interment was in Scenic Hill cemetery. She was born October 19, 1906 in Beach Grove, Arkansas, a daughter of Joseph E. & Ola (McGary) Cooper. Her survivors are her husband, Edgar Ready of Grafton; 4 sons, Jesse Ready of Otterville, Richard and Oliver Ready of Grafton and Raymond Ready of Godfrey; 4 daughters, Mrs. Doss (Delores) Robertson of Meadowbrook, Mrs. James (Blanton) Seib of Newbern, Mrs. William (Joellen) Lucas of Alton and Mrs. Paul (Wanda) Watson of Grafton; 18 grandchildren; 1 g-grandchild; 1 brother, Norman Cooper of Corning, Arkansas, 2 sisters Mrs. Raymond Franks and Mrs. Willard Smilsh of Paragould, Arkansas. Her parents, 3 brothers and 1 grandson preceded her in death.—-there are discrepancies in the date of birth.–
READY. Died 17-02-1985. Edgar R. Ready, 82, of Grafton died February 17 at 10 am at his residence. Services were conducted at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton. Rev. Tommy Brewer officiated and burial was in Scenic Hill cemetery. He was born April 13, 1902 in Oakland City, Indiana to Jess & Faye (Berkhart) Ready. His survivors are 4 son, Jesse of Jerseyville, Richard and Oliver, Grafton, and Gene, Alton; 4 daughters, Delores Roberson, Moro, Beauton Seib and Wanda Watson, Grafton, and Foe Ellen Lucas, Alton; 1 brother Euell Ready, Winter Haven, Florida, and 1 sister Edria Heacock, Oakland City, Indiana; 18 grandchildren and 4 g-grandchildren. REARDON. Died 28-05-1983. Janet Ann Stone Reardon, 41, died late in the evening May 28 at Passavant hospital in Jacksonville. A funeral mass was celebrated Wednesday am at the Church of Our Savior, Jacksonville. Burial was in St. Bartholomew Cemetery at Murrayville. She was born June 24, 1941 in Jersey County, daughter of Daniel & Annie (Dotson) Stone and married Joseph E. Reardon August 18, 1960 in Jerseyville. He survives. Other survivors are her mother, Annie Estes of Jerseyville, 2 brothers, William A. Stone of Godfrey, Richard D. Stone of Jerseyville; 1 sister Linda Lee Bagby of St. Louis. Mrs. Reardon was a 19 year employee of Passavant hospital, was a member of Our Savior Church and Altar Society, Moose Lodge and Ostomy Club of Springfield. She was born January 23, 1918 in Jerseyville, a daughter of Harry E. & Elsie (Weigand) Weller. Mrs. Reasons was a supervisor at Jacksonville State hospital for a number of years. Her survivors include her husband, Delbert Reasons; her mother; 1 son Dick Greeling of Phoenix, Arizona; 1 brother, George Weller of San Mateo, California; 2 sisters Mrs. Mary Rendock of Springfield and Mrs. Virginia Crane of Edinburg. The funeral was held May 19, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia with burial in Lebannon cemetery.

REDD. Died 01-02-1986. Carles Lambert “Pat” Redd, 77, died Saturday February 1, 1986 in Schapers hospital. Services were conducted February 5 at the All Faiths Chapel at Illinois Veterans Home. Born in Grafton, a son of late Charles L. & Alice (Doyle) Redd. He was a silver medalist in the broad jump at the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles, California. His career included serving as a college track coach, and a lengthy stint in the Air Force, where he attained the rank of Lt. Colonel. Later he was employed 17 years in the Physical Medicine Department of Owens-Illinois Glass Company. Surviving are 2 Sons, Chris R. of St. Louis and Michael of Cleveland, Ohio, 1 daughter Ann Dawdy of White Hall; 1 brother, John of Godfrey,; 1 sister Ada Richey of Grafton. Burial in Sunset cemetery. REDD. Died 08-1981. William C. Redd Sr., 78, 111 Tydemann, Roxana, died in Red Lion, Pennsylvania. Services were held at 10 am Tuesday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. Redd was an electrical supervisor at Shell Oil Company for 43 years before retiring in 1963. Born in Grafton, he was a son of the late Todd & Alice (Doyle) Redd. His survivors are 2 sons, William Redd Jr. of Peoria & Cjar;es F. Redd of Detroit, Michigan; 1 daughter, Mary Lubold of Red Lion, Pennsylvania; 8 grandchildren and 10 g-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Lambert Redd of Quincy and John Redd of Alton; and 1 sister, Ada Richey of Grafton. His wife, Edith (Purdy) Redd, died on February 20, 1970, and 1 brother Fred also preceded him in death. Burial will be in Woodland Hill cemetery, Wood River. REDDISH. Dewey Reddish, 9 years, 2 months, 15 days, son of Douglas & Nannie (Harmon) Reddish, died February 27, 1908. He died at the home of his parents, after an 8 week illness of diphtheria. Dewy was born at his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Henry Harmon on December 12, 1898; he was a dear one to his school mates and loved his sunday school and church. Just before his death he bade his dear ones his last farewell expressing his willingness to go yet sorry to leave his loving parents; his dear friend Sherman Heffner. He leaves to mourn his loss; 1 grandfather, 1 grandma, 9 aunts, 2 uncles and many friends and relatives. The funeral was held in this city on Sunday March 1, 1908, at the ME Church, Rev. Jones officiating, interment in Lax cemetery. Pall bearers were Spencer Powell, Charley Taylor, Elvin and Ara Breitwieser.

The former school teacher and native of O’fallon was born March 20, 1897, daughter of Louis & Agusta (Guenther) Fink. Mrs. Reddish was a member of the Order of Eastern Star No. 656 and Fieldon Church of Christ. Her husband Jacob Reddish whom she married September 10, 1921, died February 1, 1981. She is survived by 1 son, James H. Reddish of Broomfield CO; 2 granddaughters and 1 g-granddaughter. The funeral was held Wednesday am at Gubser Funeral Home with burial in the Reddish family cemetery near Fieldon. Rev. R. E. George officiated. REDDISH. Hanna Reddish, 77, wife of Jacob Reddish, died at her home in Fieldon May 21, 1909. Funeral at C P Church, Rev. W. W. Roads and I. D. Crawford of Kane officiating. She was born July 23, 1846, in Hamilton County, Ohio, near Cincinnati. She and her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Weeks, came to Illinois in 1844 and settled in the western part of Jersey County. A few months after their arrival, the father died. In 1846, she married Jacob Reddish. Survivors and 2 daughters, Mrs. Henry Harmon of English Township, Mrs. Charles H. Kirby; 1 son, Zeddock Reddish of Richwood Township; 14 grandchildren, 10 g-grandchildren, and 2 g-g-grandchildren. 9 of their children preceded her in death.
REDDISH. Died 1909. Jacob Reddish, 85, born in Grayson County, Kentucky September 10, 1824, and came to Illinois in 1828 and settled in Madison County. He was driven out of what is now known as Granite City by the high water of 1844. Having lost everything he came to Jersey County penniless and settled on what is now known as the Barton Morrison farm in Richwoods Township. He lived there for 10 years, then moved to what is know as the Reddish homestead near Reddish school. In 1875 he built the home where he died in Fieldon. On ma1, 1846, he married Hanna (Weeks) Reddish of Ohio who survives. 12 children were born to them, 6 son & 6 daughters. 9 died in infancy. Three survive: Mary, wife of Henry C. Harmon, Nannie, wife of Charles H. Kirby, and Zeddock Reddish, all living in Richwood Township; 14 grandchildren; 10g-grandchildren; 2 g-g-grandchildren. “Uncle Jake” was youngest of 8 children. They were Benjamin, Stephen, John, Zeddock, Jackson, Lettie, wife of the late George Meyers of Carrollton, Texas, and Elizabeth, wife of the late Lewis Elliot of Kemper, Illinois. The Reddish family is of Irish stock, settling in Virginia, from there came west into Kentucky, then into Illinois. On account of the death of his father, when he was a small boy he went to make his home with his older brothers, Stephen and Zeddock. He did not receive a full measure of book education. However he possessed the characteristics of which winners are made. He secured his financial start in life by planting popcorn in the rail fence corners on his brother’s farm. When a few years older he cut cordwood and placed it on the banks of the Mississippi river for 50 cents a day. From this small beginning he amassed one of the largest fortunes in Jersey County. One of the pioneer citizens of the county, his hospitality knew no bounds. His funeral was one of the largest ever held in Jersey County. The crowd consumed 30 minutes in passing by for a final view of the remains. The services were to have been held Sunday afternoon, May 9, but were postponed on account of a rain storm, until Monday. Mr. Reddish having made a special request not to be buried in a storm. Services by Rev. I. D. Crawford of Kane. Pall bearers: S. H. Bowman, Elias Cockrell, Robert Newton, George W. Ware, J. N. Beaty, W H H. West, Sr., of Jerseyville and Fred Heitzig and Fred Loellke of Fieldon. CP Church in Fieldon. Burial in Reddish family cemetery near Fieldon in a burglar proof vault, set on a 7 inch concrete foundation, around the vault are 6 inch walls of concrete and the top is sealed with 7 inches of concrete, thus making the vault both burglar proof and water tight.
REDDISH. Died 01-02-1981. Jacob H. “Jake” Reddish, 85, of Jerseyville died at 7 am February 1 at Jersey Community hospital. He had resided at Greenwood Manor for several years. Reddish was a retired Illinois Veterans Commission officer and prior to that farmed in Jersey County. He was born in Fieldon August 7, 1895 a son of Zeddock & Mary (chance) Reddish. The WWI veteran was a 60 year member of Jerseyville American Legion Post 492, Veterans of WWI, VFW 4528. He was over 50 year member and past master of Fieldon Masonic Lodge 592, Shriner Ainad Temple, East St. Louis and was a charter member of the Jersey County Farm Bureau. His survivors are his wife, Flora (Fink) Reddish whom he married September 10, 1921; 1 son, James H. Reddish of Broomfield, Colorado; 2 grandchildren; and 1 sister Edith Hicks of Jerseyville. 1 brother and 1 sister proceeded him in death. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm Tuesday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. WWI Veterans and Masonic Lodge services will be held at 7 & 7:30 pm respectively. The funeral will be conducted Wednesday at Gubser Funeral Home by Rev. Leonard Todd. Jerseyville American Legion will conduct military graveside rites at the Reddish family cemetery near Fieldon. Memorials may be given to Shriners Crippled Childrens hospital.

REDDISH. Died 08-03-1952. Mary Reddish, 87 years, 8 months, 15 days, widow of Zeddock Reddish, died at 11 am Saturday, March 8. Funeral services were held at 2 pm Monday, March 10, at the family home, 307 Hickory St., Jerseyville. Rev. M. Edwards Breed, pastor of First Presbyterian church officiated and interment was in Reddish cemetery. Mrs. Reddish had been in ill health for some time and had been bedfast for the past 3 years. She was a daughter of the late Henry & Emeline (Cope) Chance and was born in Jersey County, June 23, 1864. She had lived in Jersey County all her life. Surviving are : 2 sons, Jacob H. Reddish of Jerseyville, and Zed C. Reddish of Chicago; 3 daughters, Mrs. Joel Morrison of Fieldon, Mrs. Lillian Daniels and Mrs. Roy C. Hicks of Jerseyville; 7 grandchildren; 7 g-grandchildren and 3 sisters, Mrs. Alice Bridges of Fieldon, Mrs. Lynda Bowers and Mrs. Hattie Schultz of Jerseyville.
REDDISH. Nettie Reddish, 37, wife of Stephen Reddish, died at the home of her parents, May 16, 1917. She was a daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John Cooper and was born in Jersey County, November 29, 1879. She married Stephen Reddish in 1898 and had 1 child. She never professed with any church, but her life was pure and noble and we feel that she has passed peacefully in the hands of God. Surviving are her husband, 1 son Norman, father and mother; 5 Sisters, Bertha, Anna, and Alma Cooper, Mrs. Dollie Heiderscheid, Mrs. Rachel Rush and 1 brother, Robert Cooper, all near home, and her aged grandmother, Mrs. Rachel Brown of Missouri. Funeral was from the home of her parents. Rev. R. Russell officiated, with burial in Gunterman cemetery.
REDDISH. Norman Reddish, 84, of Hardin, died August 12, 1983 at Jersey Community hospital in Jerseyville. Born in Jersey County, son of Steven & Nettie (Cooper) Reddish. He married Stella (Tavernier) Reddish and she survives. Also surviving is 1 daughter, Dolores Ufer of Hardin, 3 grandchildren, 1 g-grandchild. Burial was in Hardin cemetery.
REDDISH. Died 11-08-1960. Paul Whitehead Reddish, 48, Jerseyville farm manager, died at 2:45, Thursday afternoon August 11, at St. Luke hospital in St. Louis. His health had been impaired the past few years and during his illness he had been hospitalized several times. He was a son of Mrs. Flora Whitehead Reddish of Jerseyville and the late Clarence G. Reddish, and was born in Jerseyville on November 15, 1911. Mr. Reddish was graduated from the U of I and his fraternity was Alpha Tau Omega. While at the university Mr. Reddish was captain of the fencing team and was the big ten fencing champion. He was farm manager of the Reddish land in the western part of the county and continued the supervision after the onset of his illness. Mr. Reddish was a commissioner and secretary of Nutwood Drainage and Levee District for more than 25 years. In addition to his farm management Mr. Reddish developed Oakwood subdivision, one of Jerseyville’s newer residential subdivisions. Prior to his illness Mr. Reddish was a member of the Jerseyville Lions Club, and was also active in Boy Scout work. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Kathryn (Snedeker) Reddish, 1 daughter, Miss Janet Louise Reddish, and his mother, Mrs. Flora Reddish, all of Jerseyville, and 1 sister Mrs. James F. Dumas of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon August 14, at First Presbyterian church of which he was a member. Rev. M. Edwards Breed, pastor of the church, officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Arrangements were from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Serving as pallbearers were Bert Schaaf, Otto Kraushaar, Junior Cory, Ruby Miller, Robert Gledhill and Charles White. The floral tributes were cared for by Misses Helen Louise Suddes, Diane Bertoux, Marilyn Munsterman, Sandra Ellerman and Sandra Weaver of Jerseyville and Miss Harriet Anderson of Edwardsville.
REDDISH. Died 08-1967. Robert Reddish, 90, former resident of this area died recently. Services were held at Marks Mortuary in Alton with Rev. Frank Cook of Jerseyville officiating. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park. Mr. Reddish, a son of the late Mr. & Mrs. John Reddish, was born February 14, 1877 in Jersey County. He had lived nearly all of his life at East Hardin where he farmed prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Pentecostal church of Jerseyville. Surviving him are his wife, Flora V. (Cummings) Reddish; 1 son, Elmer of East Alton, 5 grandchildren, 18 g-grandchildren Mr. Reddish had lived in Wood River the past 18 months and his death occurred in the Wood River township hospital.
REDDISH. Zaddock Reddish, 76, born in Kentucky died at Fieldon, November 4, 1893. He was born September 14, 1817 and came to Richwoods Township with his mother in 1827. He married Sophia Medford. He gave his property to his children before he died.
REDDISH. Died 08-1969. Zed C. Reddish, 70 years, 7 months, 5 days, died at 8 pm Tuesday at a Winter Haven, Florida hospital, where he had been moved on Sunday after suffering a severe stroke. Funeral services are to be held at John Mitchel Funeral Home in Winter Haven at r pm Thursday. The body will be brought here and committal services will be held at Reddish cemetery Saturday am with Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville in charge. Mr. Reddish, a son of the late Zaddock & Mary (Chance) Reddish, was born in Jersey County. Before moving to Florida 6 years ago the Reddish family lived in Chicago where Mr. Reddish held a position as a district manager for the Socony-Vacum Company. Impaired health prompted his early retirement and since then Mr. & Mrs. Reddish had made their home in Winter Haven. Survivors are his wife, Marguerite (Roberts) Reddish of Winter Haven; 1 son and daughter in law, Mr. & Mrs. John Reddish of Rockford; 2 grandchildren; 1 daughter-in-law, Mrs. Annica Reddish of Washington, DC; 1 brother, Jacob H. Reddish of Jerseyville; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Roy (Edith) Hicks and Mrs. Lillian Daniels of Jerseyville. A son, Zed F. Reddish, his parents, and 1 sister Mrs. Nancy Morrison, preceded him in death.
REDDISH. Died 1893. Zeddock Reddish, Sr., 79, died from effects of a fall. He had climbed a tree to catch a chicken, when the accident happened. He was one of the oldest settlers in this county, having been born, he came to Jersey County in 1827.
REDFORD. William M. Redford died at home in Fieldon, January 21, 1891. He was a native of Kentucky. He married Rahala (Ray) Redford in Fayette County, Illinois on June 17, 1875. They were parents of 3 children, one dying in infancy. He taught from age 16 and was considered a proficient teacher. He had a fine musical talent, and belonged to Order of Good Templars. The funeral was from CP church in Fieldon with Rev. John H. Belt serving.
REDLICH. Katherine M. Redlich, widow of Harry Redlich, died Saturday September 16, 1967 at the family home on E. Spruce St., Jerseyville. Mrs. Redlich had been in failing health for some time and had undergone major surgery at Barnes hospital in St. Louis late this spring. Funeral services were held at 2 pm Monday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. M. Edwards Breed, pastor of First United Presbyterian church, officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs. Redlich was born in Jersey County February 15, 1909, a daughter of the late Robert F. & Caroline (Graner) Ferris. Her late husband was engaged in the plumbing business here for many years. Surviving are 1 daughter, Rowena, at home; 2 brothers, Robert Ferris of Jacksonville and I. J. Ferris of Jerseyville; 2 sis—incomplete—

Redman of East Alton, brother of Thomas Redman of Nutwood and Mrs. Ora Scheffel of Jerseyville, died Sunday, February 17, at 1:20 am at Wood River Township hospital, where he had been a patient since Friday. Mr. Redman had been engaged in the grocery business for 37 years, retiring about 1 year ago. In addition to his brother and sister residing in Jersey County he is survived by his wife, 1 daughter, 1 son, and his aged mother and 1 other brother. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 pm at Morrow-Quinn Mortuary in Alton with Rev. William L. Bohm, pastor of East Alton Baptist church, officiating. Burial was in Upper Alton cemetery.
REDMAN. Died 13-06-1986. William H. Redman, 87, of Jerseyville, died June 13 at his residence. He was born November 30, 1898, at Hamburg, Germany to Wilhelm & Elizabeth (Schaper) Redman. He was retired from Eteaton Corp. in Chicago. Survivors include sister Helen Hinrichesen of Jerseyville and nieces and nephews, including Helen Spencer of Grafton and Henry Hinrichsen of Davis. REED. Died 03-1973. Clyde A. Reed, 69, died at his home in Nutwood at 4:30 pm Saturday. Funeral services were held at 2 pm Sunday afternoon, March 25, at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Carl Cook of Alton officiated and burial was in Carrollton cemetery. Visitation was held at the Funeral Home 4-9 pm and Masonic services were held at 8 pm by Franklin Masonic Lodge of Alton. He was born in Rosedale Township, February 21-1904, a son of the late Ernest & Fannie (Thompson) Reed. Mr. Reed was retired from International Shoe Company, tannery division in Hartford, where he operated a shaving machine. He was also a retired custodian of Alton School District No. 11. His survivors are his wife, Edna (Kohntopp) Reed; 1 step daughter, Mrs. Furnley Phillips of Kankakee; 1 brother, Raymond Phillips of Edwardsville; 1 sister Mrs. Thelma Hill of Bethalto; and 3 grandchildren. He held a life membership in the Moose Lodge at Wood River.
REED. Born 03-06-1860. Died 02-1927. Ed E. Reed, 66, for many years a prominent and widely known horseman and farmer of Jersey County, died yesterday at 4:07 pm at his home in Dow. He had been gravely ill for several months and while his passing is a source of sorrow to his relatives and wide circle of friends, it was not unexpected. Had Mr. Reed lived until June 3, he world have been 67. He was a son of Joseph O. & Nancy L. (McDow) Reed and was born at Newbern. He was united in marriage with Mary Grace (Buckles) Reed about 43 years ago. Soon after their marriage Mr. & Mrs. Reed moved to Kansas, later to Sumner County, Missouri, and 1901 returned to the Dow vicinity, where they resided on a for until about 10 years ago. At that time, because of his illness, they moved to the village of Dow, where he resided until his death. Surviving Mr. Reed are his widow, Mary G. Reed; 1 daughter, Mrs. Walter E. Kno(i?)Ght of Dow; 3 sons, Hal E. Reed of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Ch(l?) arence B. Reed of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Walter Reed of Alton; and 1 sister Mrs. Gertrude (Reed) Culp, of Burden, Kansas. Mrs. Joseph Knight of Dow is an aunt. Mr. Reed was highly educated gentleman and a versatile writer. His love of horses and his skill in training them for the track was well known. He was a prominent member of the Elks, Masonic and Modern Woodmen fraternities. Funeral services will be held from the residence, Friday, at 2 pm, ref F. M. hedger of Godfrey officiating. Entombment will be in Oak Grove mausoleum in Jerseyville, the commitment being in charge of the Masonic fraternity.

Final rites will be conducted at 2 pm March 19 from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville with burial in Carrollton cemetery. She was born April 13, 1906 in Illinois, a daughter of Frank & Della (Cummings) Kohntopp. Mrs. Reed was a member of the Women of the Moose. REED. Died 01-07-1976. Everett Irl Reed, 86, retired farmer of fidelity, was pronounced dead at Jersey Community hospital at 9:15 pm on July 1. Final rites were held July 4, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Earl Clagg officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. He was born May 17, 1890 in Jersey County, a son of Gilbert Richard Nelson Reed & Margaret (Flanigan) Reed. He was a member of Elks Lodge, Jerseyville and Modern Woodman. His survivors are his widow, the former Angie (Armstrong); 2 daughters, Mrs. Woodrow (Doris) Loy and Mrs. Eldon Earl (Louise) Moore, both of Rural Route 1 Jerseyville; 1 son, Irl W. Reed, Springfield; 10 grandchildren; 15 g-grandchildren. Memorials may be given to Fidelity Baptist church.
REED. Died 25-05-1974. Fred Ballard Reed, 78, of 1728 Bozza Alton, died May 25, at St. Joseph hospital, Alton. Final services were held Monday afternoon, May 25 from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with burial in Oak Grove cemetery. He was born in February, 1897 in Jerseyville, a son of William Van & Eliza (Ballard) Reed. A veteran of WWI, he was a member of the American Legion , 40 & 8 and Jerseyville Eagles Lodge. Mr. Reed was retired from Olink Corp. He is survived by 1 brother, Ernest Harold Reed of Alton. His parents and 1 brother preceded him in death. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The American Legion and VFW were in charge of graveside rites.
REED. Died 04-03-1907. John C. Reed 63 years, 4 months, 11 days, was born in Monmouth County, New Jersey, October 22, 1844. He came to Illinois with his parents about the year 1857 he was married to Cannie (Cox) Reed January 21, 1866 by Rev. C. H. Foote, pastor of Presbyterian church of Jerseyville, Illinois with his parents about 1857. He married Cannie (Cox) Reed, January 21, 1866 by Rev. C. H. foote, pastor of Presbyterian church of Jerseyville, Illinois. To this union 4 children were born, 1 daughter and 3 sons, of which 3 died in infancy, William V. the only one surviving his father. He enlisted in Company D, 144th Regiment, Illinois Infantry, on August 30, 1864, and was honorably discharged July 14, 1865. Mr. Reed died at his residence on Gooddrich St., March 4 at 2:50 pm. He leaves his wife, 1 son, many brothers; relatives and friends. He was known as a good citizen and respect by all who knew him. During the past year and especially the last 3-4 months, he has been an intense suffer. A few weeks ago he accepted Christ as a personal savior, and was baptized, witnessing a good confession. We rejoice to believe that he fell asleep in Jesus. The final services were held in the Presbyterian church, Friday, May 6, at 2:30 pm and were conducted by pastor Rev. W. H. Jordan, who was assisted by Rev. S. Catt and c – incomplete.

REED. Died 21-08-1984. Lester R. Reed, 96, died at 4:20 pm August 21, at Jersey Community hospital. Services were conducted Friday afternoon at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. R. E. George officiated and burial was in Upper Alton cemetery. He was born December 17, 1887 in Jersey County, son of the late Firman & Louisa (Lane) Reed. He married Leona (Delp) Reed of Fieldon in 1916, she preceded him in death. His survivors are his wife, the former Isabell Andrews, of Cottage Hills whom he married November 16, 1977 in Jerseyville; 1 niece, Mrs. Lila Blackorby, and 1 nephew, Orville Dabbs of Jerseyville. He was also preceded in death by 4 sisters, 3 brothers and 1 daughter. Memorials may be given to United Methodist church, where he was a member.

REED. Rebecca Frances Reed, 80, of 703 high St. Jerseyville, died at 1:45 pm December 4, 1975 at Jersey Community hospital. She was born December 29, 1894 in Richwood Township, Jersey County, and was a daughter of Samuel & Elizabeth (Fondle) Cannon. REED. Died 18-06-1976. William Reed, 81, died on June 18, at Barnes hospital in St. Louis after a brief illness. Services were conducted on June 21 at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. The former Grafton resident, now of East St. Louis, was interred in Montrose cemetery, Greenville. Reed had retired from Shell Oil Company in 1954. He Operated Bill’s Bait Shop in Grafton until moving to East St. Louis 2 years ago. His survivors are his widow, Myrtle (File) Reed; 1 son Richard W. Reed of St. Louis and 3 sisters.

Andrew Robert Reese, 19, was dead on arrival at 2:11 am Sunday, September 1, 1991, at the scene of a 1 vehicle accident west of Jerseyville on Hollow Ave. A sophomore at SIU at Carbondale, Reese was a 1990 graduate of Jersey Community High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society. REESE. Died 03-1982. Robert L. Reese, 73, of Rural Route 4, died at 12:05 pm Monday at his home following a lengthy illness. Until retiring in 1969, he was a postal carrier in Jerseyville for 27 years, and was a WWII Navy veteran. Past District Commander of the American Legion and past Commander of Post 492, he was also a former Jersey County Civil Defense Director. Born in Smith Center, Kansas, a son of the late Milar & Sophie (Lott) Reese, he Married Norma (Downey) Reese on March 1, 1935, in Jersey County. In addition to his wife, surviving are 2 sons, Phillip and Robert C. both of Jerseyville; 1 daughter, Rosemary Tepen of Carrollton; 8 grandchildren; 1 g-grandchild; 1 brother, Edward of Carlinville; and 2 Sisters, Florence Whitlow of Carlinville and Marian Park of Springfield. REEVE. Died 27-07-1984. Ora M. Reeve, 89, of Jerseyville died July 27 at Barnes hospital in St. Louis after a long illness. Born in Illinois July 14, 1895, she was the daughter of the late Charles & Louella (Wood) Sidwell and was a retired housemother for Monmouth College, Monmouth, Illinois. Her husband was the late William Reeve. She is survived by 1 daughter, Corrine Franklin of Jerseyville; and 1 son, Charles Coulter of Whittier, California; 6 grandchildren, 3 g-great grandchildren and 1 g-g-grandchild. She was preceded in death by 1 son, 1 daughter, 2 brothers and 1 grandson. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the El Dara Methodist Church, El Dara with Rev. Ed Milhouse officiating. REHER. Died 04-1973. Inez F. Reher, 65, of Dow, a retired teacher in the Jersey County educational system, died unexpectedly early Friday am. Mrs. Reher became ill sometime after retiring and she was brought to Jersey Community hospital by her husband, where she was dead on arrival at 2 am. Visitation was held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held there at 2 pm Sunday with Rev. James Rucker of Bethel Methodist church officiating. Interment was in East Newbern cemetery. Mrs. Reher, a daughter of the late Andrew & Isabelle (Gorman) Fessler, was born in Jersey County and would have marked her 66th birthday on July 13. Surviving are her husband, Francis Reher; and 1 brother William Fessler of Godfrey. Mrs. Reher was a past matron of Jerseyville Order of Eastern Star, a past Noble Grand of the Ruby Rebekah Club, a member of the past Noble Grands Club and past Matrons Club.
REHER. Died 11-05-1951. Joseph B. Reher, 72 years, 3 months, 9 days, a retired laborer, died Friday May 11, at an Alton hospital. Funeral services were held at Holy Ghost church Monday May 14, at 9 am. Rev. Father P. P. Heinlein celebrated requiem mass and interment was in St. Francis Xavier cemetery. Mr. Reher, was a son of the late William E. & Rose (Albert) Rehr and was born in Jersey County on February 2, 1879. REHER. Lena Reher, 82, died at 7:01 pm Sunday, January 7, 1990, at Greenwood Manor Jerseyville. Before retiring in 1973, she worked for Shell Oil Control Lab of Wood River for 5 years, and was Jersey County Deputy teas for 8 years. Mrs. Reher was past president of Jersey County HIA, Jersey County Home Bureau and Jersey Community hospital auxiliary, and past Commander of American Legion Auxiliary Post 492. Born in Scottville, she was the daughter of the late Daved E. & Daisy E. (Elmore) Ruyle. On August 20, 1925, in Virginia, Illinois, she married Carl W. Arnold Sr. He died July 11, 1964. She later married Francis Reher on December 5, 1973, in Brighton. He died February 17, 1979. Surviving are 2 sons, Carl W. Arnold Jr. of Dow and Wayne Arnold of Brighton; 6 grandchildren; 6 g-grandchildren; 1 g-g-grandchild; 2 sisters, Irene Arnold of Redding, California, and Helen Powell of Scottville; and 1 half brother, Alvin Ruyle of Scottville. Preceding her in death were an infant son, Francis Arnold, 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Visitation is from 4-9 pm at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville with rites at 7 pm by Eastern Star No. 656, of which she was past Worthy Matron. Rose Reher, 87 years, 1 months, 12 days, a resident of Jerseyville for about 40 years, died Friday am, June5, at 8:10 at St. Joseph hospital in Quincy where she had been a patient for almost a year. She had been a semi-invalid for the past 20 years. Mrs. Reher was the daughter of the late Michael & Catherine (Hartwick) Albert, early settlers in the nw part of Jersey County. She was born April 23, 1855 in New York City and when about 2-3 years old her family moved to Jersey County. She was the last member of a family of 9 children. She was married to William Reher a farmer and the couple moved to Jerseyville about 49 years ago. The death of Mr. Reher occurred soon after here. Mrs. Reher resided here until about 3 years ago when she went to make her home with her children. Surviving are 6 children; Joseph B. Reher of Jerseyville, Charles G. Reher of Dow, Mrs. J. W. Thornburgh of Springfield, Illinois, Mrs. Stephen A. Reher of Hannibal, Missouri, (no more listed); 4 grandchildren; 1 g-granddaughter. REHR. Died 01-01-1969. Bertha Rehr, 88 years, 9 months, 3 days, longtime resident of Dow area, died at 8:20 pm January 1 at the White Hall hospital, where she had been a patient 1 day. Funeral services were held at 2 pm Saturday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Cecil Penn of Dow officiated and interment was in East Newbern cemetery. Mrs. Reher, a daughter of the late Jacob & Martha (Baker) Jokers, was born in Jersey County. She had been living at Hilltop Nursing Home at White Hall for 2 years. Her survivors are 1 son Francis Reher, of Dow, and 1 brother, Charles Jokers of Dow.
REHER. Died 17-02-1978. Francis A. Reher, 68, of Route 1 Dow died at 10:27 am February 17 at Jersey Community hospital. Prior to retirement he was a Minneapolis-Moline dealer in the Dow area for 20 years. Reher was a 40 member of Jerseyville Masonic Lodge, Bether Methodist church and EAA Flying Club. Born September 27, 1910 in Jersey County, he was the son of the late Charles & Bertha (Jokers) Reher. His survivors are his wife, Lena E. (Arnold) Rehr; 2 stepsons, Carl W. Arnold, Piasa, and R. Wayne Arnold, Brighton; 6 step-grandchildren; 1 uncle, Charles Jokers. His first wife of 40 years, Inez S. Reher, died April 13, 1973. The funeral will be conducted at 2 pm February 20 at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Max Borah and Rev. Joe Srebro will officiate. Burial well be in East Newburn cemetery. REID. Died 08-11-1991. Imogene Reid, 66, former Jerseyville resident, died Friday November 8, 1991, at Tucson. She was a registered nurse. Born in Jersey County March 2, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Earl & Edna (Miller) Mathew. She married Richard Reid in 1948, and he survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter Cheryl Cole of Tucson; 1 son, Michael Reid of Quartz Hill, California; 6 grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Maxine vaughn of St. Louis and yvonne easley of Jerseyville. A daughter, Sandra Reid preceded her in death. Services were held November 12 at Calvary Lutheran church in Tucson, where she was a member. Burial was in East lawn cemetery at Tucson. Memorials may be given to Imogene Reid Memorial fund in care of Calvary Lutheran church, 5601 E. Broadway, Tucson, Arizona. East lawn Mortuary at Tucson was in charge of arrangements.
REIHL. Mathilda (Roesch ?) reihl 68, wife of a Reihl died at the family home in Evergreen Heights. They were parents of 3 sons & 6 daughters. She was a native of Wutemberg, Germany, she came to this country in early life. She married Edward Reihl in 1866 and came to Evergreen Heights as a bride. Funeral was from their home and burial was in Melville cemetery. Surviving are the 9 children: Helen McLennon of Carballs ?, Mrs. Alice Starr, Tacoma, Washington, Mrs. Anna Thompson, Missionary at Gongbo, Corea ??, C. Heihl, Tacoma Washington, W. REIHL. Died 01-1925. E. H. Reihl, 87, of Reihl Station, died in St. Joseph hospital, Friday afternoon after a brief illness of appendicitis, with which he was suddenly stricken 12 hours before. He was born in St. Louis County on a farm adjoining that of Gen. Grant. He moved to Alton in 1861, settling on a farm of the bluffs at what is now known as Reihl Station. The prominent horticulturist, converted his farm and surrounding tract into a garden spot, known as “Evergreen Heights”. On this farm Mr. Reihl maintained a large chestnut grove, one of the few in Illinois. He was said to be the first man in the state to take the growing of chestnuts of a commercial scale. His farm was also adorned by great Peony beds which he had cultivated for years as one of the projects to make the farm home a beautiful place. He was a man of progressive ideas, old, yet young. He attributed his success in farming to the “use of his head as well as his hands” Mr. Reihl was the first farmer of the Alton vicinity to own an automobile. He was an ardent motorist up to the time of his death and was well known in Jersey County. Survived by 9 grown children.
REIMER. Died 24-04-1975. Charles Francis Reimer, 64, of Springfield Maryland died April 24 at suburban hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, of a heart attack following a lengthy illness. Reimer, who was born in New York City, graduated from Lasalle Academy and attended the City College of New York. He worked for Consolidated Edison for many years before going to Washington in 1943 while in the US Army. He served in the – incomplete.
REINTGES. Died 20-01-1919. John B. Reintges, 65 years, 6 months, 22 days, the first male child born in Elsah, died at his home there, Monday January 20, an 1:55 am. His death was comparatively sudden having suffered a stroke of paralysis Sunday ar, just after eating a hearty breakfast. The funeral services were held from the home Wednesday, January 22 at 10:30 am, Rev. Father Marion of Brighton officiating, and interment was in Elsah cemetery. Mr. Reintges, was the son of the late Peter & Eva M. Reintges who came to Elsah in the early fifties, was reared and educated in his native Township, and in youth learned the trade of wheelwright. He was well known, not only in his home township but throughout the county, having served as Supervisor and for many years as a member of the Democratic County Central Committee, of which he was chairman for 1 term. The deceased is survived by his wife, Miss Anna (O’Hare) Rentges, (Sister of Mrs. P. J. Flemming); 1 son, Marks, who is employed in the 3rd National Bank in St. Louis; 2 daughters, Miss Eva of Elsah, and Zetta, wife of George W. Taylor of Fieldon. He was a brother of Mrs. D. J. urphy and Jacob Reintges of Granite City, Mrs. C. P. Welch and Miss Louise Reintges of St. Louis. He was presented by Hon. James Semple with a lot 50 x75 feet in dimensions, located in the village of Elsah, in honor of having been the first white male child born in Elsah. He was a favorite among little children, he was always ready to inconvenience him self to do a favor for another, and his going brings genuine sorrow throughout the community in which he lived. REISNER. Died 15-07-1973. Charlotte Reisner, widow of Roscoe Reisner and formerly of Jerseyville, died July 15 in Tucson, Arizona. Mrs. Ray Well of Jerseyville received word of the death, and funeral, burial was in Tucson. Mrs. Reisner was a daughter-in-law of Mrs. Frand A. Reisner, now residing in Honolulu, and the late F. A. Reisner, practicing attorney and States Attorney here for a number of years. Her survivors include 2 sons of Tucson, her parents and 1 brother who reside in Missouri.
REISNER. Died 26-05-1958. Farish A. Reisner, 85 years, 2 months, 16 days, Jerseyville’s oldest practicing attorney, died unexpectedly Monday am May 26, of a heart attack. He suffered the fatal illness soon after his arrival at his office. With him at the time was his wife who had accompanied him to the office. Atty. Reisner was moved in the Gubser ambulance to Jersey Community hospital where he was pronounced dead. Funeral rites were held Thursday afternoon at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville at 2:30 with Rev. Carl C. Moman, pastor of First Baptist church, officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. The Jerseyville attorney was born in Salyersville, Kentucky, on March 10, 1873. He was graduated from high school in Dunkirk, Indiana, and from the University at Valparaiso, Indiana. Later he Attended Southern Theological Seminary at Louisville, Kentucky. He became a Baptist minister and held pastorates in Indianapolis, Indiana, Taylorville and Granite City. Mr. Reisner was State Evangelist in Illinois for 3 years. While in the ministry he studied and received his master’s and doctor’s degree in theology. Later he went to Nebraska where he served in the state legislature. During this time he studied law and passed the state bar examinations, obtaining his license to practice. In 1920 attorney Reisner returned to Illinois and practiced law in Granite City and Jerseyville. The family moved to Jerseyville in 1930 and he continued his practice. In 1944 attorney Reisner was elected State’s Attorney of Jersey County and served a 4 year term in that capacity. Mr. Reisner was a life-long student and one of his greatest pleas – incomplete.
REISNER. Died 30-06-1980. Mayme Reisner, 97, died at 6:30 am June 30 at Jerseyville Care Center where she resided. She was born January 23, 1883 in Anamosa, Iowa and was a retired school teacher, in Omaha, Nebraska and a lifetime Baptist. Her husband, the late Farish A. Reisner, was a former attorney and State’s Attorney here. She is survived by 1 Son, Horace of Honolulu, Hawaii and 5 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, George & Arminda (Hart) Jackson, her husband and 1 son Roscoe. Graveside services were conducted by Rev. Clay Noah on July 2, at Oak Grove cemetery.
RELPH. Died 07-02-1978. Robyn Relph, 77, of ll valley, Elsah died February 7 at Jersey Community hospital. He had been a postal clerk. Services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. On February 10 at 1 pm. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park. He was born October 1, 1900 in Minnesota, a son of Richard & Maude (Boylan) Relph. He is survived by cousins and Paul Barnes of Elsah, conservator. Visitation will be held after 7 pm Thursday. Memorials may be given to the Salvation Army.
REMER. Died 23-10-1903. Mrs. G. M. Remer died at home in Indian Territory, October 23. She was a half sister to Mrs. Charles Adams and Mrs. Maria Ford of Jerseyville. She moved from Jerseyville, to Lockwood, it (??) several years.??
REMER. Died 05-1889. Abram Remer, 78, was born at Somerville, New Jersey, March 6, 1811. He learned the trade of wagon maker. In 1856, he moved to Illinois with his family; wife and 5 children. He married Deborah (Nutt) Remer on March 18, 1837, she died May 9, 1888. He was an honest upright man. Funeral was from his home, Rev. I. C. Tyson officiating. Pallbearers: Judge Warren, J. S. Daniels, D. R. Stelle, J. C. Darby, Col. Fuldreson, B. C. Vandervoort, W. Leigh and J. Calhoun.
REMER. Died 05-1903. Deborah Remer, 75, died in this city. Born March 6, 1813 in Philadelphia, she came to Jerseyville with her husband in 1854. Funeral by Rev. Ira C. Tyson. She leaves husband and 5 children; 3 daughters, Mrs. J. M. page, Mrs. Rockwell, Mrs. Van Pelt, Theo F. and Marsh Remer.
RENARD. Died 10-05-1981. Earl Renard, 83, retired performer, who resided in Jerseyville for the last 14 years, died at 6:20 am May 10 at Jersey Community hospital. He was born December 23, 1897 in Pittsfield, the son of Edward a & Melvina (Bodine) Renard. He started his career as a circus performer and later performed with the Ziegfield follies. He also was in the Olsen & Johnson Show “Hell-Za-Poppin.” He is survived by 1 brother, Albert Renard, Florissant , Missouri and 2 sisters, Adeline Long of Florissant, Missouri, and Harriet Rottman, Chesterfield, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Clay Noah, of First Baptist church, officiating. Burial will be in Grimes cemetery.
RENCH. Died 16-06-1976. Benjamin (Benny) C. Rench, 23, of 601 W. Mulberry St. Jerseyville was dead on arrival at St. Joseph hospital in Joliet at 5:30 am June 16. He suffered fatal injuries in an accident when the semi-trailer he was driving overturned. Rench was hauling a truck load of hanging meat from East St. Louis to Chicago in the truck owned by Melvin Dixon, Jerseyville policeman. He was exiting from I-55 onto Route 59 when the accident occurred. The meat shifted causing Rench to lose control and the truck turned over on its top trapping Rench and his passenger. His passenger, Rick Ballard, 20 of East Alton, formerly of Jerseyville crawled out and a state trooper who arrived at the scene shortly after the accident occurred, pulled Rench out just before the truck burst into flames.
RENCH. Died 07-09-1982. Earl “Barney” Rench, 58, of Hillsboro, formerly of Jerseyville died unexpectedly at 1:40 pm August 7 at the Hillsboro area hospital. Rench, who lived in Jerseyville from 1954-1975 was born January 6, 1924, south of Greenville, the son of Clifford & Myrtle (Hill) Rench. He married Lois M. (brown) Rench, April 20, 1949 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He was a truck driver for the North Shore Central truck lines of Litchfield. Rench was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion in Hillsboro and a member of Teamsters Local 525, Alton. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in Italy. He is survived by his wife Lois, 3 son, James of Jerseyville, Kevin and Mark of Hilsboro; 1 daughter Mrs. Sharon Young of Pana; 1 sister Iola Thacker of Greenville and 2 grandchildren, Penny Rench of Jer – incomplete.
RENDE. Died 06-1985. Marceline E. Rende, 60, of Godfrey, died at 10:22 am Saturday at St. Mary Health Center, Clayton, Missouri, following a 2 week illness. A registered nurse, she was born in Grafton, a daughter of Theresa (Carey) Plummer of Grafton and the late Paul Plummer. She married Frank J. Rende on March 31, 1951 in Chicago and he survives. Surviving in addition to her mother and husband are 1 daughter, Patricia Dixon of Belleville; 3 sons, Dr. Richard Rende of St. Louis, Dr. John Rende – incomplete.
RENFRO. W. P. Renfro, 88, died at his home in Elsah, August 13, 1908. His remains were taken to Troy, Illinois for burial.
RENO. Died 11-1918. Miss Dovie C. Reno, 27, died at the home of her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Wm. C. Reno, 108 carpenter St. Jerseyville. Private services were held at her home, Rev. F. O. Wilson officiating and burial in Kane cemetery.
RENO. Died 05-1975. Edna Lillie Reno, 83, of Jerseyville, died at 10:50 am Tuesday in St. Joseph hospital. He husband Edgar preceded her in death. Surviving are 1 son Phillip James Reno Sr., of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Mrs. Everett (Mabel) Dunsing of Jerseyville and Mrs. Mary Schrieber of Roodhouse; 12 grandchildren; 16 g-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Lucille Cox and Mrs. Ruth Voyles, both of White Hall. Friends may call after 4 pm Thursday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services will be conducted at the Church of the Nazarene, at 2 pm, Friday, the body will be moved there after noon Friday. Rev. Edwin L. RENO. Died 16-11-1919. George Reno, 85, died at the home of George B. Whitlock home east of Kane on November 16, funeral was held from home. Rev. T. J. Roady officiated and burial was in Whitlock cemetery.
RENO. Died 29-01-1952. Grace Reno, 74 years, 9 months, 1 day, died Tuesday January 29, 3:40 at St. Elizabeth hospital in Belleville following a short illness. Mrs. Reno was the daughter of the late Shelton & Olive (Lipscomb) Tompkins and was born near Kane of April 28, 1877. She was preceded in death by her husband, whose death occurred 1 year ago, 3 brothers, Charles T. Benj. G., and Lynn Tompkins and 1 sister Mrs. Lulu Williams. Mrs. Reno is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Charles Taylor of Belleville and Mrs. Donald Terry of Otterville, 4 grandchildren. The decedent had lived in the Kane vicinity all of her life. She was a member of Kane Methodist church. Funeral rites will be held at Kane Methodist church at 2 pm Friday February 1, with Rev. C. L. Peterson officiating. Interment will be in Kane cemetery. RENO. Died 21-04-1983. Hazel D. Reno, 95, formerly of Kane and recent resident of Garnet Chateau, died April 21, at 9:16 am at Jersey Community hospital. She was born July 10, 1887 in Greene County, daughter of the late Hugh & Delia (Felter) Wayman. Her husband, Charlie Reno, died April 2, 192. She had resided in Alton for 25 years. She is survived by 1 daughter Cadrmen Williams of Alton, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 1 sister. Memorials may be given to Kane Methodist church.
RENO. Died 03-10-1954. Louise Jane Reno, 76 years, 8 m0, 18 days, wife of Harry W. Reno of Kane, died at 2 am Sunday, October 3, at Boyd Memorial hospital in Carrollton where she had been moved for treatment 9 days earlier. Mrs. Reno was a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Stone and was born in Jersey County, January 15,1878. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Reno is survived by 1 brother, Daniel Stone of Hampton, Iowa; 1 sister Mrs. Dora Theil of Alton, nieces and nephews. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at Kane Baptist church, Tuesday, October 5, at 2pm. Rev. L. E. Mustain of Roxana and Rev. Carl Baldridge of Kane officiated; interment in Kane cemetery.

RENO. Died 14-02-1989. Phillip James Reno, 71, died at 4:56 am Tuesday February 14, at his residence. Reno served in the US Army during WWII and was formerly a custodian for Tri City Groc. in Jerseyville. He was born in Greenfield, son of the late Edgar & Edna (Dorkes) Reno. On September 19, 1945, in Jerseyville he married Ellen (Dunsing) Reno. She survives. Also surviving are 3 sons, Edgar and Phillip Reno Jr., both of Jerseyville, and Charles Reno of Kane; 5 grand children; 2 sisters, Mable Dunsing of Jerseyville and Mary Schricher of Virginia, Illinois. Preceding him in death were 1 daughter, Phyllis Reno; 1 brother and 1 sister. Visitation is noon – 2pm Thursday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 pm Thursday at Oak Grove cemetery. Rev. Richard George will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by Jerseyville American Legion and VFW Post 492.
RENOUD. Died 28-04-1991. Albert Renoud, 85, died at 10:10 pm Sunday, April 28, 1991, at Jerseyville Care Center. He retired as a shipping clerk in 1971. Born in Oshkosh, WI on August 10, 1905, he was a son of the late Edward & Melvina (Bodine) Renoud. Nieces and nephews survive. 3 sisters and 6 brothers, preceded him in death. Visitation is from 11 am Thursday until time of service, 1 pm, at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Dan Harry will officiate, burial in Grimes-Neeley cemetery.
REPINCE. Died 16-12-1981. Charlotte L. Repince, 68, of Humbert re, Godfrey, died December 16 at 8:06 am at Alton Memorial hospital. Services were conducted Friday am at Marks Mortuary, Wood River, with burial in the Wanda cemetery. Born in Alton, she was a daughter of the late Charles & Bertha (Peipert) Smith. Her survivors are her husband, Tony Repince; 3 sisters, Dorothy Herring of Carrollton and Lucille Rovinson and Virginia Gabrial of Niles, Michigan; 3 brothers, Everett Smith of Plainview, Charles Smith of Jerseyville and Harry Smith of Eldred.
RESSLER. Died 11-1982. Eunice L. Ressler, 83, died recently. Funeral at Smith home in Alton. Born in Jerseyville, daughter of William & Irene (Coats) Antrobus. Practical nurse. Her husband, George Ressler, died November 9, 1974. She leaves 1 daughter, 2 sons, grandchildren and g-grandchildren; 3 brothers and 1 sister. Burial in Godfrey.
RESSLER. Died 24-11-1972. Elwood R. Ressler, 55, of Route 1 Jerseyville died at 12:30 pm November 24, at Alton Memorial hospital. Rev. M. Edwards Breed officiated. Cremation was at Valhalla cemetery in St. Louis. A WWII Navy veteran he was born in Alton February 28, 1917 and was a bricklayer by trade. His survivors are his wife Geraldine Ressler; 5 sons, Kenneth of Florida, David and Charles of Chicago and John and Richard of Jerseyville; 3 daughters, Mrs. Joanne Helm of Chicago and Mrs. Denise Watson of Altus, Oklahoma, and Rebecca Ressler, Jerseyville; 2 brothers, George of Alton and James of Cottage Hills; and 1 sister Mrs. Emmett Ventress of Springfield; and 4 grandchildren.
RETHERFORD. Died 04-06-1985. Vivian Retherford, 81, of Kane, died June 4 at Jersey Community hospital in Jerseyville. She was born December 12, 1903, in Kane to the late Charles & Jennettie (Reno) Ferguson. She married Earl A. Retherford on November 26, 1924, in Jerseyville. She was a member of Kane Baptist church. Survivors include her husband; 3 daughters , Pauline Drinning of Oxford, California, Dorothy Schmitz of Burbank, California, and Shirley June Clow of Bethalto; 1 son Earl Frederick Retherford of Ferguson, Missouri; 2 sisters, Lucille Reynolds and Adeline Wheeler, both of Kane; 1 brother, Everett Ferguson of Kane 13 grandchildren; and 14 g-grandchildren.
RETTERATH. Died 94-1891. Rudolph Retterath, 33, born at Springfield, Illinois, in 1858, came to Jerseyville when 1 year old. He lived in Jersey County until 1879 when he went to St. Louis to learn harness making trade and when completed, returned to Jerseyville and worked for Mr. Pilger until 1885. He then went to Bethalto, set up business there and married there. In 1887 he moved to St. Louis and in 1888, was appointed on the police force of that city. He died there and remains were brought to Jerseyville for burial, having as pallbearers, 6 police officers in full uniform and a delegation of Odd Fellows from Bethalto. He was a step-son of Gustav Goecke. He leaves his wife, 1 daughter and 1 son.
RETTERATH. Died 06-1928. William J. Retterath, 74, former well-known resident of this city, died on Saturday at St. Joseph hospital in Alton. He was the owner of a tin shop in this city for many years. He retired from business about 1 year ago when he and his family moved to Alton. Surviving are his widow, Mary Retterath; 3 daughters; misses, Elizabeth, Minnie and Augusta Retterath. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.

RETTINGHAUS. Died 27-01-1985. Martha A. Rettinghaus, 82, of Jerseyville died at 2:39 pm January 27, at Jersey Community hospital. Born November 17, 1902 in Macoupin County, she was a daughter of the late Louis Henry & Anna (Gilbert) Price. She was a member of First United Methodist church. She married Rollie Rettinghaus February 4, 1921, he died January 20, 1960. She was also preceded in death by 1 son, Lavern, in 1950,; 3 sisters, and 4 brothers. Her survivors include 3 daughters, Elizabeth Moody of Fairdealing, Missouri, Darlene Hayes, Manchester, Missouri and Betty Barron, Moberly, Missouri; 1 son, Louis H. Rettinghaus, Greenleaf, Kansas; 19 grandchildren; 10 g-grandchildren; 2 g-g-grandchildren. Also surviving are 5 sisters, Thelma Phillips, Tennyson, Indiana, Marie Ziegler, Hartford, Lucille Grand and Sarah Malin, Whitehall and Katherine McCasland, Jerseyville; 2 Brothers, Calvin Price Kempton, Illinois and John Price of Hillview. The funeral was conducted at First Methodist church Wednesday with Rev. R. E. George officiating. Burial in Oak Grove cemetery. Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville was in charge of arrangements.
RETZER. Died 13-01-1979. James E. Retzer, 53, of Michael, died January 13 at University of Missouri Medical Center in Columbia, Missouri. Services were held Tuesday at Ward-Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill. Burial was in St. Anselm Cemetery in Kampsville. He was the owner of Retzer farms and was a well-known fruit grower in the area. Born in St. Louis, he was the son of Albert M. & Rosemary (Nimerick) Retzer. Surviving are his wife, Marilyn (McReynolds) Retzer. 1 daughter, Gail Lynn Retzer, at home; 1 son, James E., also at home and 1 sister Rosalind Sinclair of Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to medical center at Columbia.
RETZER. Died 22-01-1982. Marzella R. Retzer, 79, of East Alton died at her residence on January 22, following a lengthy illness. Born in Golden Eagle, she married Leo William Retzer. They owned and operated Retzer’s Auto Body Shop in East Alton until her husband’s death in 1955. Her parents were the late William & Anna (Kamp) Maines. Surviving are 2 daughters and 3 sons; 6 grandchildren and 4 g-grandchildren; 3 brothers and 3 sisters including Opal Robeen of Jerseyville. Services were conducted at the Smith Funeral Home in Alton with burial in Valhalla Memorial Park.

REYNOLDS. Died 04-1915. Mrs. J. R. Reynolds, 28, died at the P A C Infirmary Sunday pm. Sat am we received a copy of the Carter County Herald, published at Olive Hill, Kentucky, of April 22 which contained the following obituary of Mrs. Reynolds: The entire community has been saddened by the death of Mrs. J. R. Reynolds, which occurred at the P A C Infirmary Sunday night after a distressing illness with uraemic poisoning. In spite of the fact that everything that medical science could do was done, all efforts were in vain and the good woman passed from the unconsciousness in which she had lingered for days into the sleep that knows no waking. Mrs. Reynolds was 28 years old and came to this city only a few months ago with her husband, the new Baptist minister. She was a Miss Lee, of St. Albans, West Virginia, prior to her marriage, and her remains were taken to her old home for burial Monday afternoon, following services held at the Baptist church. Though she had resided here but a short time she had made a multitude of friends by her attractive personality and devout Christian character. She leaves beside her husband 2 small children to mourn her loss. To the bereft husband and the motherless children the sincerest sympathy of every one out in their great and irreparable sorrow. It is the heaviest calamity that could befall them, and one that the comfort of holy writ alone can heal. That they may find balm in the words of him who said “peace be still” to the troubled hearts, “she is not dead but sleeping” is the earnest wish of us all. Messrs. Harvey Chenault, Callvin Taylor and W. M. Bowman accompanied Mr. Reynolds on his sad journey to St. Albans.
REYNOLDS. Died 11-1968. August John Reynolds, 51 years, 2 months, 9 days, of Rural Route 1 Jerseyville, was found dead early Sunday am by two of his Neighbors, Gene Willard and Delbert Burch who were assisting in a search for him begun when he failed to return home from a coon hunting trip. He was dead on arrival at the scene at 9:50 by Deputy Coroner Jerry Martin. An inquest will be held later by Coroner Rodney Jacoby who reports that death is believed to have resulted from natural causes. Funeral services for Mr. Reynolds were held at 2 pm Tuesday, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Carlton Christenson officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Masonic services were held at the Funeral Home at 8 pm Monday. Mr. Reynolds, a son of the late Charles S. & Rose (Day) Reynolds, was born in Jersey County. He was a veteran of WWII and was employed as an air tool maintainer by McDonnell-Douglas Company. Surviving are his wife, Wanda (Balcom) Reynolds; 3 Sons, Michael Reynolds of Jerseyville, and Dennis and Patrick Reynolds, at home; 2 grandchildren; 1 brother, Charles Reynolds of Jerseyville; and 6 sisters, Mrs. Bonnie Perdun of Kane, Mrs. Mollie Edwards of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mrs. Rosa Latich of Staten Island, New York, Mrs. Elsie Brueggemann of St. Louis, Mrs. Sarah Roewe and Mrs. Mary Brueggemann of Jerseyville.
REYNOLDS. Charles Edwin Reynolds, 79, died at 4:25 February 20, 1991, at Jersey Community hospital. He was a retired farmer in Jersey County area. Born in Jersey County, he was the son of the late Charles Samuel & Rose (Day) Reynolds. On February 3, 1937, in Greene County, he married Mary Elizabeth (Smith) Reynolds. Surviving are his wife; 1 daughter, Jean Carroll of Jerseyville; 2 sons, Roger A. Reynolds of Jerseyville and Samuel L. Reynolds of Kane; 6 grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Mollie Edwards of Oklahoma, Elsie Brueggeman of St. Louis, and Saranh Roewe both of Jerseyville. 1 brother and 3 sisters preceded him in death. Visitation is from 4-9 pm Thursday at Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services are at 2 pm Friday. Rev. Earl Clagg will officiate. Burial is in Oak Grove cemetery.
REYNOLDS. Clyde Reynolds, 76, died at 9:15 pm Tuesday, January 26, 1988, at his home. A WWII US Army veteran, Reynolds worked for the maintenance department of Jersey Community School District 100 until retiring in 1972. He was born in Carrollton, son of the late Jesse C. & Ida (Drumh) Reynolds. On June 1, 1932, he married Grace (Ballard) Reynolds in Carrollton and she survives. Also surviving, is 1 sister, Christina Shortal of Jerseyville. Visitation will be 4-9 pm Thursday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services will be conducted at 2 pm, Friday by Rev. Charles Epperly. At Oak Grove cemetery in Jerseyville, military graveside rites will be conducted by Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 with burial to follow. REYNOLDS. Died 05-1881. Mr. E. L. Reynolds, 36, died after a painful illness in this city on Thursday last. Born in Zanesville, Ohio, February 28, 1845. He was reared in Columbia, Missouri. He came to Illinois in 1861 and in 1862-34, he was editor of Hillsboro Journal. In 1866 he came to Jerseyville, where he married in 1868 and lost his wife in 1871. He leaves 2 children, mother, 3 sisters and 1 brother who lives in Columbia, Missouri. Funeral was from his home.
REYNOLDS. Earl Reynolds, 4 months, son of Mr. & Mrs. William Reynolds, died at the parent’s home in the east part of town, August 17, 1905. Rev. J. S. L. Nollau served at the service.
REYNOLDS. Died 17-06-1980. Gilbert James Reynolds, 68, of 702 Baxter, Jerseyville died at 12:25 am June 17 at Jersey Community hospital. Services were conducted Thursday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial in Oak Grove cemetery with Rev. L. E. Hutchinson officiating. Born April 5, 1912 in Greene County, he was a son of Charles & Sadie (Thurston) Reynolds. Reynolds worked in construction ans was a WWII veteran. His survivors are his mother, Sadie Reynolds, Cottage Hills; 5 daughters, Carol Swain, Dorchester, England, Nancy Neville, Marne, MI, Barbra Lehr, Phyllis Meuer and Nove Kruis All of Grand Rapids Michigan; 5 brothers, Raymond of Cottage Hills, John, Bill and Edgar, all of Jerseyville and Melvin of Alton; 3 sisters, Irene Tennison and Mary Gillian of Cottage Hills and Ida Belle Wihlheimy ?, Edwardsville; 11 grandchildren. His father and 2 brothers preceded him in death. Military graveside services were conducted by the VFW and American Legion.
REYNOLDS. Died 12-10-1979. Gladys racine Reynolds, 85, who has resided at Garnet Chateau for the past 5 years, died at 3:25 am October 12 at Garnet Chateau. She was born July 31, 1894, in Kane, the daughter of John & Laura (Gilleand) Reynolds. She was a retired school teacher. Survivors are nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and 11 brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held at 2 pm October 14 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Garold Coorper of Kane Baptist church officiated. Burial in Kane cemetery.
REYNOLDS. Died 22-01-1984. Ida L. Reynolds, 93, 703 Short St., Jerseyville died at 9:25 pm January 22 at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home, where she had resided for a year. She was born October 4, 1890 in Carrollton, daughter of the late Charles & Sophia (Ritter) Drumh. Her husband, Jess C. Reynolds, died November 8, 1963. She is survived by 1 son, Clyde Reynolds; and 1 daughter, Christina Shortal of Jerseyville; 4 grandchildren; 11 g-grandchildren; 6 g-g-grandchildren. 1 brother and 7 sisters preceded her in death. Services will be conducted at 2 pm. Jan 25 at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville with James Pepper officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-9 pm Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Heart Fund.
REYNOLDS. Died 01-1970. John Ellis Reynolds, 73, of Rural Route 2 Godfrey, was dead on arrival at Jersey Community hospital at 11:25 Monday am. Mr. Reynolds, in company with Ira Towell, had gone to the Irv Holloway home in the Grafton area to work on a frozen water pipe and had just arrived on the scene when the former was fatally stricken. Funeral services were held at 10 am Wednesday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. James Rucker of Dow officiated. The body was then moved to Martin Funeral Home in Knoxville for services and burial in Knoxville cemetery. Masonic services were held at the Funeral Home in Jerseyville at 8 pm Tues. Mr. Reynolds, a son of the late Mr. & Mrs. George Reynolds, was born in Bradley, Arkansas, and was 73 just 4 days before his death. He was a veteran of WWI and for a number of years had been Democratic Precinct Committeeman in Elsah Township, a post he held at the time of death. His Wife, Lois (Frew) Reynolds, survives him. Mr. Reynolds was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of fool Moon Lodge of Grafton, Scottish Rite Bodies of East St. Louis, Bethel Methodist church of Dow, the American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.
REYNOLDS. John G. “Big John” Reynolds, 59, died at 12:58 pm Wednesday, August 26, 1987, at St. Joseph hospital in Alton. He was born in Appalachia, Virginia, son of the late George & Geneva (Masingill) Reynolds. On July 20, 1970, in New Taswell, Tennessee, he married Beulah Madge (Ridenour) Reynolds, who survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter Elizabeth Gay Reynolds of Tucson, Arizona; 7 stepsons, Denzil Ridenour of Nutwood, Marvin Miller of Danville, Illinois, Charles Miller of Abilene, Texas, Elmer Miller of Cottage Hills, Ed Miller of Wood River; , Mark Miller of Hillsboro and Paul Miller of Grafton; 6 stepdaughters, Beulah Rosenfelder of Ofallon, Missouri, Irma Spriggs of Cahokia, Jean Foster of Pittsfield, Sue Miller and Beth Glenn, both of Bunker Hill, and Madge Miller of Fairfield, Illinois; 34 grandchildren; and 2 g-grandchildren. 1 brother, Billy Joe Reynolds, preceded him in death. Visitation will be from 10 am Friday until time of services at 2 pm at Otterville Baptist church. Rev. Joy Settles will officiate. Graveside military rites will be conducted at McDow cemetery in Otterville by Jerseyville American Legion Post 492. Memorials may be given to the church where he was a member. Jacoby brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of arrangements.
REYNOLDS. Died 15-01-1982. Raymond L. “Mollie” Reynolds, 68, of Alton died at 4:40 January 15 at St. Joseph hospital. The WWII veteran was born January 14, 1914, a son of Charles & Sadie (Thurston) Reynolds and was a construction worker. Services were conducted Monday, at 10 am at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Robert A. McAdams conducted and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. He is survived by 1 Son, Darrell L. Reynolds of Highland; 4 brothers, John, Melvin (Bill ?) and Edgar, all of Jerseyville and Melvin of Alton; 3 sisters, Irene Tennison of Cottage Hills, Mary Gillian of Meadowbrook and Ida Belle Wilhiemy of Granite City; 4 grandchildren.
REYNOLDS. Died 27-06-1980. Sadie Mae Reynolds, 90, of Cottage Hills died at 3 am June 27 at Wood River hospital. Funeral from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, Sunday afternoon with Rev. Gordon Dean Cox officiating. Burial was in Carter cemetery. She was born October 10, 1889 in Greene County. Her husband, Charles, died September 8, 1966. Mrs. Reynolds was a member of the VFW auxiliary. She is survived by 5 sons, Raymond of Cottage Hills and John, Gill and Edgar – incomplete.

RANGE. Died 12-01-1973. Lou Ella Range, 101, of Jerseyville who represented the 6th generation of her family. Her death occurred at 10:17 pm, January 12 at Garnet’s Chateau. Rev. Victor Deshea officiated at the rites and interment was in River cemetery. She was born July 2, 1871 in Greene county, a daughter of William & Chalcy (Pittman) Hand. Mrs. Range had lived in Jerseyville since 1960 when she moved here from Greenfield. Her survivors are 3 daughters, Mrs. Mae Miller of Edwardsville, Mrs. Everett (Ina) Fry and Miss Lizzie Range of Jerseyville; 1 son, Lee Range of Virden; 15 grandchildren; 35 g-grandchildren; 51 g-g-grandchildren and 3 g-g-g-grandchildren. 2 children preceded her in death.
