KLARENBACH. Died 19-02-1978. Unknown newspaper, 23 February 1978: Graveside services for Jack T. Klarenbach, 54, of Fidelity were held Wednesday morning at Kane cemetery. He died at 12 pm 19 February in St. Luke’s hospital in St. Louis following a six month illness. He was a clerk at Central Hardware in Alton. His survivors are his wife, the former Edith Hutchens whom he married 15 March 1964; a Daughter, Karen Meisenheimer of Alton; a stepson, Elmer Foster of Greenville; seven grandchildren and a great grandchild.
KLEEBER. Died 14-01-1954. Unknown newspaper, January 1954: “Kleeber funeral services held”: Funeral services were held at St. Michael church in Beltrees Saturday morning, 16 January at nine-thirty o’clock for Mrs. Mary Agnes Kleeber of Elsah whose death occurred 14 January at Memorial hospital in Alton where she had been a patient for three weeks. Requiem mass was celebrated by Father Michael Sheehy and interment was in Elsah cemetery. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home prior to the funeral services. Mrs. Kleeber was born in Elsah, 25 July 1880 and her age at the time of death was seventy-three years, five months and nineteen days. Her husband, George L. Kleeber, preceded her in death. She is survived by one brother, William Besterfeldt of St. Louis, and nieces and nephews.
KLEFFNER. Died 07-02-1974. Unknown newspaper, 14 February 1974: Funeral mass for John N. Kleffner , 60, of 900 W. Carpenter, Jerseyville was celebrated Saturday morning, 9 February at Holy Ghost church with Father Robert L. Heintz celebrant. His death occurred on 7 February at Garnet’s Chateau. Interment was in St. Francis Xavier cemetery. He was born 18 November 1913 in Jerseyville, a son of Frank and Elizabeth Wagner Kleffner. Mr. Kleffner was a member of Holy Ghost church. He is survived by three Sisters, Sister M. Gualbert of the Sisters of Notre Dame of St. Louis, Miss Josephine Kleffner and Miss Catherine Kleffner of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and three sisters. Visitation hours were held at . . . rest of obituary is missing.
KLEFFNER. Died 02-05-1977. Unknown newspaper, 2 May 1977: Funeral mass for Catherine Rita Kleffner, 70, of 900 W. Carpenter, Jerseyville, will be celebrated at 10 am on 4 May at the Holy Ghost church with Father William Hembrow celebrant. She died from an apparent heart attack at 4:45 am on 2 May at Jersey Community Hospital. She was born in Madison county on 10 August 1906, a daughter of Frank and Elizabeth Waggner Kleffner. Miss Kleffner was a retired bookkeeper from Bertman’s Department Store. She is survived by one sister, Miss Josephine Kleffner of Jerseyville, nieces and nephews. Her parents, three brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.
KLEIN. Died 25-08-1995. The Telegraph, Alton, Illinois, 26 August 1995: Jerseyville – Walter C. Klein, Jr., 81, formerly of Grafton, died at 6:22 am Friday 25 August 1995 at Greenwood Manor West in Jerseyville. He was a farmer and owner/operator of a sawmill in Grafton for 45 years, retiring in 1987. Born in Portland, Oregon on 9 May 1914, he was the son of the late Walter C. and Olga (Hogan) Klein, Sr. He married the former Edna M. Calhoun in Alton on 27 December 1936. She died on 22 November 1987. Surviving are five sons, Edwin W. Klein, Richard E. Klein and William H. Klein, all of Grafton; Roy L. Klein of Matoon and Oliver Dale Klein of Elsah; seven daughters, Mary Jane Legate of Bunker Hill, Ruth Ann Woods of Lincoln, Edna Margaret Sparks of Galesburg, Emily M. Carroll of Carrollton, Jean M. Pinkard of Jerseyville , Dianna L. Sunblade of Bolingbrook and Suzanne D. Bowling of Oswego; 43 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and three sisters, Marie Lanius of Dallas, Viola Marshall of Salem, Missouri and Jeanette Suhling of Kampsville. Five grandchildren preceded him in death. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 pm Sunday at Hope Lutheran church in Jerseyville, where he was a member. Visitation will continue from 10 am Monday until service time at 11 am at the church. Burial will be at Noble cemetery in Otterville. Memorials may be made to the church. Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of arrangements.
KLEIN. Died 11-01-1982. Unknown newspaper, 19 January 1982: Services were held Wednesday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home for Ryan Patrick Klein, five years old, son of Dale and Donna June Rardin Klein of Route 4, Jerseyville. The child died at 9:15 am on 11 January in the emergency room at Jersey Community Hospital following a fire at his residence. He was born on 24 February 1976 at Alton Memorial hospital. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sister, Tanya and Cheyanne, both at home; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Klein of Grafton; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Rardin of Martinsville and Mr. and Mrs. Don Ray of Greenville; and great grandparents, Edith Calhoun of Lincoln, Ruby Rardin of Martinsville and Mr. and Mrs. Bernie Acquaviva of Glen Carbon. The Revs. William Hessler and William Elder officiated at the service and burial was in Otterville cemetery. The Hope Lutheran church education fund and Head Start Program at West Elementary school have been designated as memorials.
KLEIN. Died 25-11-1982. Democrat News, 1982: Donald Eugene Klein, 13 years old, son of Edwin Walter and Ruth Whitlock Klein of Wilson, North Carolina, formerly of Calhoun and Jersey counties, died 25 November in Greenville, North Carolina. he suffered from injuries in an attempted robbery by four youths. He was born on 4 December 1968. He leaves parents, one brother, Edwin Walter Klein, two Sisters, Starla Rene and Debra Darlene Klein at home; half brother, Ronald Kemp of Dow; half sister, Christine Williams of Wilson, North Carolina.; grandparents, Walter and Edna Calhoun Klein of Grafton, Bessie J. Daniels of Dow. He was the grandson of the late Gilbert Whitlock. The funeral was held from Gubser Funeral Home with Rev. William W. Hessler. Burial was in Noble cemetery.
KLEIN. Unknown newspaper: Grafton – Edna M. Klein, 69, died unexpectedly at 6:15 am Sunday, 22 November 1987 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. She was born in Grafton, daughter of the late Edwin C. and Edith (Smith) Calhoun. She married Walter C. Klein on 27 December 1936 in Alton, and he survives. Also surviving are five sons, Edwin W. Klein of Benton, North Carolina; Richard E. and William H. Klein, both of Grafton; Roy L. Klein of Mattoon and Oliver Dale Klein of Delhi; seven Daughters, Mary Jane Legate of Bunker Hill; Ruth Ann Woods of Lincoln, Illinois; Edna Margaret Sparks of Galesburg; Emily M. Mark Etter officiating. Burial will be in Otterville cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Christian Nursing Home in Lincoln, Illinois, or the Hope Lutheran church in Jerseyville, where she was a member.
KLIEBER. Died 00-12-1907. Jersey County Democrat, 26 December 1907: Mrs. Mamie Klieber, aged about 32 years, wife of John Kleiber of Springfield, died in that city Thursday morning, about five o’clock. Mrs. Klieber, who was Miss Mamie cook, was a native of Jerseyville and formerly resided here, where she has relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 pm from St. Mary’s church in Springfield. Interment in that city.
KLINE. Died 00-01-1907. Jerseyville Republican, 17 January 1907: Nancy E. Snider, Born near Rome, Smith County, Tennessee on 27 August 1836, came to Illinois in 1844; settled in Jefferson County, later in 1851 moved to Jersey County. She married on 10 February 1859 Jacob Kline at Newbern. They moved to Christian County. In 1903 moved to Morrisonville. Seven children were born, four of which preceded her in death. She leaves husband and three Children; Albert Kline, near Morrisonville; Mrs. Mary Perrine and Mrs. Minnie Bradford of near Zenobia; eight grandchildren; five brothers, and one sister.
KLOTZ. Died 00-07-1959. Unknown newspaper, 9 July 1959: Dale O. Klotz, twenty-six year old Brighton resident, was the area’s only traffic fatality over the fourth of July weekend. The young man was killed instantly early Sunday morning when the automobile in which he was riding alone hit a concrete bridge abutment on Highway 67, a half mile north of Brighton. On Saturday evening Klotz had accompanied a group of friends on a boat excursion out of St. Louis. After the excursion the Brighton man took home one of the excursionists who resides north of Brighton, and the accident occurred upon his return trip. Fred Haynes of Godfrey who was on his way fishing happened along shortly after the crash. Officials were notified and the body was moved to the Warner Funeral Home in Brighton where the Madison county coroner conducted an inquest several hours later. A verdict of accidental death was returned. The decedent, a son of Oliver and Edna Schulthes Klotz, was born in Piasa, 11 September 1932, and with his parents had resided in Brighton since 1940. He served in the Navy during the Korean war and was discharged in 1956. Prior to and after his military service he was in the employ of Owens-Illinois Glass company in Alton. He was a member of the Brighton Evangelical and Reformed church. In addition to his parents, Klotz is survived by one brother, Robert, of Brighton; his maternal grandmother , Mrs. Alma Schulthes of Piasa, and his paternal Grandfather, J. C. Klotz of Medora. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Warner Funeral Home and burial was in the Brighton cemetery.
KLOTZ. Died 26-01-1956. Unknown newspaper, 2 February 1956: “Funeral rites on Saturday for Mrs. Mary Klotz”: Mrs. Mary Klotz, 71, wife of James C. Klotz of Medora, died Thursday morning, 26 January at 11:30 o’clock at Villa Terrace Convalescent Home in Alton following a prolonged illness. Final rites were held Saturday afternoon, 28 January at one-thirty o’clock at St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed church in Brighton. Burial was in Valhalla memorial Park. Mrs. Klotz had been in ill health for fifteen years. She had been bedfast for the past eight months and had been at the convalescent home the past month. The decedent was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Legate and was born in Jersey County on 16 April 1884. Her age at the time of death was seventy-one years, nine months and ten days. As a child she moved with her parents to Wellington, Missouri, where they resided until 1915 when she returned to the Brighton vicinity. Mrs. Klotz and her husband had resided in Medora since 1950. Surviving her in addition to her husband are four daughters, Mrs. Verna Weinrich of Alton, Mrs. Novella Katzmeier of Girard, Mrs. Ora Noble of Dow and Mrs. Audrey Bohannon of Alton; one son, Oliver Klotz of Brighton; four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Dempsey and Mrs. Ella Alderson of Iowa, Mrs. Rose Hanson of Kansas City, Missouri, and Mrs. Katie Reid of Los Angeles, California. She also leaves fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mrs. Klotz was preceded in death by five brothers.
KLUEG. Died 31-01-1991. Unknown newspaper: Jerseyville – Clara Marguerite Klueg, 87, died at 6 pm Thursday, 31 January 1991, at Greenwood Manor in Jerseyville. She was a member of the Jersey County Home Extension. Born in Milan, she was the daughter of the Late Ivo and Sophia (Mortier) Slock. She married Dr. Bernard Klueg on 17 May 1941 in Rock Island, and he survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Marguerite Carter of Alton; a son, Robert L. “Bob” Klueg of Plainfield, Indiana; nine grandchildren; and a great grandson. Three Brothers, August, Raymond and Louis Slock, preceded her in death. Visitation is from 4 to 9 pm today at Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with a wake service at 7 pm. A funeral mass is at 10 am Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic church in Jerseyville with the Rev. Henry Schmidt as celebrant. Burial is in St. Francis Xavier cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church, where she was a member, masses or to Jerseyville Senior Citizens.
KLUNK. Died 30-07-1970. Unknown newspaper, 6 August 1970: “Final rites Saturday for Mabel Klunk”: Requiem mass for Miss Mabel M. Klunk of this city was celebrated Saturday morning at ten o’clock at the church of the Holy Ghost by Rev. Father Robert Morris of Carrollton. Interment was in St. Francis cemetery. Miss Klunk, who resided at 200 Goodrich street, died Thursday morning, 30 July at 8:30 o’clock at the Jersey Community Hospital where she had been a patient since the previous Tuesday evening. Miss Klunk was head bookkeeper at Wells-Norris, Inc., where she had been employed for fourteen years. Prior to her employment there she held a position with Kirchner Express. She was the daughter of the late Peter J. and Emma C. Dietz Klunk and was born in St. Louis on 11 October 1910. Miss Klunk had spent most of her life in Jersey County. Her age at death was 59 years, 9 months and 19 days. Surviving her are a brother, Alfred Klunk, and a sister, Miss Hildagarde M. Klunk of Jerseyville.
KLUNK. Died 13-10-1980. Unknown newspaper, 14 October 1980: Mathias Klunk, 99, of Route 1, Fieldon, a retired farmer, died at 4:20 am on 13 October at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville. He was born on 23 September 1881 in Michael, the son of Peter and Wilhelmenia Klunk. He was married to Kathryn May and she died on 18 August 1973. (Picture of decedent appears here in obituary) he is survived by two sons, Raymond J. Klunk of Jerseyville and Harold F. Klunk of Fieldon; two Daughters, Florence Vahle of Jerseyville and Helen A. Klunk of St. Louis, Missouri; nine grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held after 4 pm Tuesday, 14 October at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home. The rosary will be recited at 7 pm. Funeral mass will be held at 3 pm Wednesday, 15 October at St. Mary’s church, Westwood, Fieldon, with Rev. Father William Hembrow, celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic cemetery, Fieldon. The Muscular Dystrophy Foundation and masses have been named as memorials.
KLUNK. Died 05-09-1964. Unknown newspaper, 10 September 1964: “Final rites for Mrs. Emma Klunk held on Monday”: Funeral services for Mrs. Emma C. Klunk, 88 year old Jerseyville resident, were held Monday morning, 7 September at 9:30 o’clock at the church of the Holy Ghost, requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. Paul P. Heinen and interment was in St. Francis cemetery. Friends called at the Gubser Funeral Home prior to the final rites. The death of Mrs. Klunk occurred Saturday morning, 5 September at 7:30 o’clock at Waters Nursing Home. She was a daughter of the late Conrad and Catherine Hause Dietz and was born in Carlinville on 19 June 1876. She was married on 12 April 1899 at St. Joseph’s church in Carlinville to Peter J. Klunk and the couple resided in Calhoun county and St. Louis before moving to a farm east of Jerseyville in 1919. The death of Mr. Klunk occurred in 1942 and Mrs. Klunk and family moved to Jerseyville in 1944 where she had since resided. Surviving her are one son, Alfred Klunk of Jerseyville, two daughters, Misses Hilda and Mabel Klunk of this city, one brother, Phillip Dietz of San Diego, Calif. And two sisters, Mrs. Frank Bellm of Carlinville and Sister M. Christine of the Daughters of Mercy, Durango, Colorado. She also leaves six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
KLUNK. Died 17-02-1948. Unknown newspaper, 20 February 1948: “Dow farmer died Tuesday”: Frank Peter Klunk, a farmer of the Dow vicinity died at five forty-five o’clock Tuesday afternoon, 17 February in the Jacoby ambulance as it arrived at St. Joseph’s hospital in Alton where he was being taken for treatment. He was pronounced dead by a physician at the hospital. Mr. Klunk was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Klunk and was born in Calhoun County on 4 September 1888. His age at the time of death was fifty-nine years, five months and thirteen days. He has been a farmer in the Dow vicinity for the past fifteen years. the deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marie Klunk; three sons, Walter and Donald Klunk of Dow and George Klunk of the United States Army; four daughters, Mrs. Walter Brakeville and Mrs. George E. Frazer of Jerseyville, Mrs. Joseph Davison of New Franklin, Missouri, and Mrs. Howard Porter of Alton; seven grandchildren; four brothers, Joseph Klunk of Fieldon, Henry and Lawrence Klunk of Michael, and Valentine Klunk of Greenfield; and three sisters, Mrs. Ada Zipprich, Mrs. Tony Roth, and Mrs. Clarence Roundcount, all of Michael. The body is at Jacoby Brothers Chapel where friends may call until the time of the funeral. Funeral services will be held at St. Patrick’s church in Grafton, Friday, 20 February at nine-thirty o’clock. Requiem mass will be celebrated by Rev. Father Michael Sheehy and interment will be in the American Legion cemetery at Grafton.

Unknown newspaper, 30 August 1973: Funeral mass for Mrs. Kathryn Klunk, 94, of route one, Fieldon will be celebrated Friday morning, 31 August, at 9:30 o’clock at St. Mary’s Catholic church with Rev. Robert L. Heintz celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary’s cemetery. her death occurred on 28 August at Alton Memorial hospital. She was born on 10 March 1879 in Aurora, a daughter of Frank and Susan Jacobs May. Mrs. Klunk was a member of St. Mary’s church and Altar Society. Visitation will be held at Jacoby Funeral Home after 4 pm today (Thursday). The rosary will be recited at 8 pm. Mrs. Klunk is survived by her husband, Matt Klunk of Fieldon; two sons, Raymond of Jerseyville and Harold of Fieldon; two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Florence) Vahle of Jerseyville and Miss Helen Klunk of St. Louis; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Banghart of St. Louis, Mrs. Alfred (Theresa) Lafleur of Seminole, Florida, and Mrs. Robert (Florence) Howe of Aurora. Her parents, three brothers and one sister preceded her in death .
KLUNK. Died 25-08-1987. Unknown newspaper, 2 September 1987: Raymond J. “Shorty” Klunk, 74, of Jerseyville died 25 August at Jersey Community Hospital. He was born 18 March 1913 in Michael to the late Mathias and Katherine May Klunk. He married Theresa M. Wiist; she died on 2 November 1969. He married Pauline V. Powell Prill on 10 October 1980. He owned Klunk’s Garage for 30 years. He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic church, Knights of Columbus, Moose, Eagles and Alton-Wood River Sportsman’s Club. He was a past Junior Governor of the Moose. Survivors include his wife, Pauline, of Jerseyville; Daughters, Pat Harmon of Alton and Marie Woelfel of Jerseyville; sons Bill Klunk of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Ed Klunk of Dodge City, Kansas; sisters Florence Vahle of Jerseyville and Helen Klunk of St. Louis; brother Harold Klunk of Fieldon; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Visitation and the rosary were on 26 August at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The Rev. William Hembrow and Monsignor P. P. Heinen celebrated the funeral mass on 27 August at Holy Ghost church. Burial was in St. Mary’s cemetery in Fieldon. A memorial has been established to Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
KLUNK. Died 00-03-1982. Democrat News, 23 March 1982: Joseph M. Klunk, 92, funeral was held from St. Mary’s church at Fieldon with Father William Hembrow. Burial was in the church cemetery. He was born in Michael on 22 February 1890, son of Frank and Lena Breer Klunk and was a retired fruit grower. He leaves wife, the former Isabella Bernt, whom he married on 17 July 1917 at St. Michael’s church at Michael; two daughters , Leola Bishop and Delores Rogers of Fieldon; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren; one brother, Valentine Klunk of Bethalto; two sisters, Kathryn Snyders of Hardin and Lena Zipprich of Michael. He was preceded in death by his parents, 10 brothers and sisters; one grandchild and a great grandchild.
KNAPP. Unknown newspaper, undated: William A. Knapp, a former resident of Newbern, Jersey County, died at his home in Alton, Monday 16 September , aged 27 years. The funeral services were held from the Cathedral, Alton, at 10 o’clock Wednesday morning. Mr. Knapp was the brother of Mrs. Cosmos Keller of this city.
KNAPP. Died 00-03-1897. Jersey County Democrat, 11 March 1897: Mrs. Elizabeth G. Knapp died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elias Cockrell in Jerseyville at 72 years of age. The funeral was held from the home by Rev. W. H. Kearns and Rev. J. J. Porter. Elizabeth G. Halstead was born in Binghamton, New York on 20 October 1825, one of 8 children; 4 boys and 4 girls. At the age of 22 she came west with her father, Jacob Halstead, for benefit of her health and she lived in Jerseyville with her oldest sister, Mrs. Silas Goodrich. She Married Col. C. H. Knapp on 27 December 1848. They had one child, Mrs. Elias Cockrell. Col. Knapp died in June 1877. Besides a daughter, she leaves sister, Mrs. Matilta L. Sanders of Custer, South Dakota and one brother, James Halstead of Jerseyville.
KNAPP. Died 00-04-1904. Jerseyville Republican, 27 April 1904: Mrs. Mary Jane Knapp died at home, aged 70 years. She lived by herself in the east part of town and had only two known relatives living, her husband in the hospital in Jacksonville and a cousin who lived in Minnesota.
KNAPP. Died 00-08-1905. Jerseyville Republican, August 1905: Mrs. R. M. Knapp died at home on South State Street, aged 69 years. The funeral was held from the home by Rev. G. W. Preston.
KNAPP. Died 00-05-1881. Republican Examiner, 27 May 1881: Anthony L. Knapp, second son of the late Dr. A. R. Knapp and Catherine Knapp was born at Rushkill (Or Bushkill) Middletown, Delaware County, New York, in June 1828. The following year his parents moved to New York City and in 1835 they went to Savannah, Georgia. In 1838 they came to Kane, Greene county, Illinois and lived there until 1845 and then to Jersey County. Of the children there were Dr. Charles A. Knapp, who died In California, Jane A., wife of H. O. Goodrich, A. L. Knapp, Robert M. Knapp and Dr. George H. Knapp, all of whom arrived at maturity, and to places of prominence and esteem in the vocation of their choice. Jane A. and Dr. George H. Knapp are now the only surviving members of the family. Anthony developed a mind fruitful in analogy and logic. This fact led to his final recourse to the study of law, and to that end he entered the law office of his uncle, Chales H. Goodrich, Esq.. In 1845 and passed his final exam in 1849 and admitted to the bar. In 1865, he married Henrietta Knapp at Chicago, Illinois who with one son survives. In 1848-9 he was private secretary to Governor French. In 1858 he was elected to the State Senate. In 1862, he was elected Representative to Congress. He moved to Chicago to engage in practice of law and moved back to Springfield. He died in Springfield.
KNAPP. Died 04-06-1877. Jersey County Democrat, 7 June 1877: Died at his residence in this city on Monday, 4 June after a brief Illness, Col. C. M. Knapp. He was born in Delhi, Delaware County, New York on 31 October 1811; was the youngest of nine children. He resided in his native place until 1836, when he removed to Savannah, Georgia and engaged in business with his brother, Dr. A. E. Knapp where he remained until 1838 at which time he removed to Illinois. He resided in Greene County until the spring of ’44 when he removed to Jerseyville and engaged in mercantile business which he continued for about twenty-five years. His family consists of a wife and one daughter, the wife of Elias Cockerell of this city. He leaves a large circle of family and friends who were in constant attendance during his last sickness bestowing upon him every attention that sympathy and affection could suggest. His physicians, Dr. A. K. Van Horne and Dr. George H. Knapp of St. Louis were untiring in their attendance and by their skill and care alleviated his sufferings and no doubt prolonged his last hours. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian church from the beginning of his residence in Jerseyville – was a man of genial, happy disposition and by his many good qualities had endeared himself in the hearts of all who knew him. Col. Knapp was admitted to membership in Jerseyville Lodge No. ? IOOF on the second meeting of said Lodge on 10 May 1840 – but two members who joined the Lodge as early now survive him as members. He was a charter member of Jerseyville Encampment No. ? IOOF and during his long connection with the order was an earnest faithful worker. In his early membership he obtained the highest honor that could be bestowed by the subordinate lodge and encampment. Both branches of order attended, scarlet and various other colors pertaining to the Lodge forming a pleasing contrast with the rich, royal purple of the encampment. The procession of the Lodge was composed of about 60 members. The uniformed patriachs of the encampment leading the procession under the direction of Patriach Lovett as Marshall Past. Grand Knapp received the last tribute of respect from the brotherhood and the ceremonies at the grave were very impressive.
KNAUEL. Unknown newspaper: Jerseyville – Dr. Charles William Knauel, 67, died at 4:45 pm Thursday, 17 November 1988 at Royal Landing in Calhoun County. Knauel, a self employed chiropractor in Jerseyville the past 40 years, was a World War II US Army veteran. Born in Edwardsville, he was the son of the Late Rhineholt and Marie E. (Fitsch ) Knauel. He married the Former Laverne Spanholtz on 1 August 1942 in Edwardsville, and she survives. Also surviving are two Daughters, Katherine Cox of Jerseyville and Cynthia K. Knauel of Phoenix, Arizona; a Son, Ronald C. Knauel of Phoenix; five grandchildren; a sister, Marie Stunkel of Edwardsville; and two brothers, Richard Knauel of Hayward, Wisconsin, and Edward Knauel of Edwardsville. Visitation is 1-9 pm Sunday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be conducted 10 am Monday by the Rev. Rick Francis. Military rites will be conducted at Valley View cemetery in Edwardsville by Jerseyville American Legion-VFW Post 492. Memorials may be given to Post 492 or Jerseyville Moose Lodge 695.
KNIGHT. Died 02-04-1973. Unknown newspaper, 5 April 1973: “Joseph Knight, former official of state, dies”: Joseph E. Knight of Dow, a former official of the State of Illinois and a prominent figure in the state democratic circles for some forty years, died at one-fifty o’clock Monday afternoon at St. Luke’s Presbyterian hospital in Chicago where he had been moved last week from his home in Dow. His illness had extended over a long period of time. Visitation hours are at the Gubser Funeral Home where services for Mr. Knight will be held at two o’clock Friday afternoon. Father Roger White, pastor of St. Paul’s Episcopal church in Alton of which the Dow resident was a member , will officiate and burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr. Knight, an only son of Walter E. and Helen Reed Knight, was born in Dow on 18 September 1911. He was educated in the local school system. After his graduation from the Jersey township High school, he continued his education at Illinois College in Jacksonville. At an early age, Mrs. Knight became active in the political field and served as a member of the state Democratic Committee during the administrations of Governors Henry Horner and Adlai Stevenson, now deceased, and Otto Kerner. He was also a former director of financial institutions in the State of Illinois. (Picture of decedent appears here in obituary) He carried the rank of Honorary Kentucky Colonel. Mr. Knight was a member of the Jerseyville Lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the Swedish Club of Chicago, the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis and the Jersey County Historical Society. He at one time was owner and president of Jerseyville Eastern Railroad at the east part of Jerseyville which attracted much attention as the shortest railroad in the country. It was discontinued when its services were no longer required for freight work in the area. Aside from his extensive land holdings in the Dow area, Mr. Knight also owned several pieces of Jerseyville property. His survivors are an uncle, Walter Reed of Alton, and several cousins.
KNIGHT. Died 28-05-1979. Unknown newspaper, 4 June 1979: Services for William E. Knight, 38 , of Dow were conducted Thursday afternoon at Smith Funeral Home in Alton with the Rev. Gary Crowder officiating. He was pronounced dead on arrival at 8:55 p.m. on 28 May at Alton Memorial hospital of a gunshot wound. Knight was a freight car repairman for Illinois Terminal Railroad where he had been employed for 19 years. Born in Mounds, he was a son of Lloyd E. and Dorothy Mae Houston Knight of Alton. He married the former Joyce Johnson on 28 November 1970 in Alton. In addition to his parents and wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sally Ann Knight of Carthage; a Son, Lloyd Dean of Meadowbrook; three Stepsons, Mitchell Peridore of Granite City, Linsy Peridore of Alton and Allen Peridore of Centralia; two Brothers, Paul of Abingdon and James of Godrey; and a sister, Dolores Hill of Jerseyville. Burial was in Upper Alton cemetery. The Warren G. Murray Children’s Home, Centralia, has been named as a memorial. A coroner’s inquest is pending.
KNIGHT. Died 06-02-1989. Unknown newspaper: Rosedale – Alvin A. “Brownie” Knight, 76, died at 9:35 a.m. Monday 6 February 1989, at Wood River township hospital. Knight was a truck driver with Teamsters Local 604 for 21 years and retired in 1972. Born in Pulaski County, he was the son of the Late Samuel Leroy and Myrtle (Staton) Knight. On 7 April 1931 in Grafton, he married the former Jewel Dean Cordrey. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Patricia Naylor of Rosedale; three Sons, Delles and Curtis Knight, both of Rosedale, and Bobby Knight of Dallas, Texas; 12 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a brother, Samuel Knight of Alton. A sister and two brothers preceded him in death. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Thursday with services at 1 p.m. Friday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The Rev. George Bell will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery. Memorials may be given to the hospital chapel.
KNIGHT. Died 06-02-1943. Unknown newspaper, 20 February 1948: “Will Bring Soldier’s Body Here for Burial”: the body of Pfc. David Leroy Knight, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Knight of Rockford, formerly of Jerseyville, will be returned to Jerseyville in the near future for burial according to word received here this week. Pfc. Knight is a nephew of T. W. Kirby, Sr. of Jerseyville. The young man entered the armed forces early in World War II. Following basic training, he was sent to the southwestern pacific area. He suffered a heat stroke while in service in that locality and his death occurred on 6 February 1943. The body of Pfc. Knight arrived in San Francisco recently and will be sent to the Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville where funeral arrangements will be made. Mr. and Mrs. Knight do not plan to attend the final rites due to illness of Mr. Knight. Mr. Knight, who has been hospitalized in Rockford, is improved and has returned to his home.
KNIGHT. Died 14-09-1970. Unknown newspaper, 19 September 1970: “Mrs. Knight Died Monday, Rites Today”: Mrs. Helen R. Knight of Dow, mother of Joseph E. Knight, former Director of Financial Institutions in Illinois and a leader in democratic circles, died Monday morning, 14 September at 11:50 a.m. at Presbyterian St. Luke’s hospital in Chicago where she had been a patient for over a month. Visitation hours are being held at the Gubser Funeral Home where Rev. John M. Young of Alton, pastor of St. Paul’s Espiscopal church in Alton, will conduct final rites at two o’clock this afternoon. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs. Knight was a daughter of the late Edwin E. and Mary G. Buckles Reed and was born in Sumner, Missouri on 19 July 1892. She had spent all of her adult life in Jersey County. Her death occurred on the sixtieth anniversary of her marriage to Walter E. Knight, former Supervisor from Mississippi township, whose death occurred in 1954. (? should be ’57) Mrs. Knight served for a number of years on the Board of Directors of Jersey Community Hospital District and took an active interest in the construction of the hospital and its operation until her resignation from the Directorate. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge. Surviving her in addition to her son is one brother, Walter I. Reed of Alton, and nieces and nephews.

Herbert Knight, prominent retired Dow farmer, dies”: John Herbert Knight, prominent retired Dow farmer, died Monday, 30 March at 12:55 o’clock am at Blue Fountain Manor near Alton. (picture of decedent appears here in obituary) Mr. Knight had been totally incapacitated for fourteen years. A member of a well-known family, Mr. Knight was a son of the late Joseph and Margaret E. McDow Knight and was born on the Knight homestead at Dow where he had lived all of his life. He was born on 31 January 1872 and had marked his ninety-second birthday anniversary this year. His survivors are a nephew, Joseph E. Knight of Dow and Springfield, director of financial institutions in the State of Illinos, and his sister-in-law, Mrs. Walter (Helen) Knight of Dow. Friends called at the Gubser Funeral Home where final rites were held Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock. Rev. Father John M. Young, pastor of St. Paul’s Episcopal church in Alton, officiated at the services and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.

Unknown newspaper, 18 April 1957: “Services this Afternoon for Walter Knight”: Services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon, 18 April at the Gubser Funeral Home for Walter E. Knight, extensive landowner and farmer of Dow, whose death occurred at two-twenty o’clock Tuesday morning at St. Joseph hospital in Alton. (Picture of decedent appears here in obituary) the Rev. Father John Young, rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal church in Alton, is officiating and burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. The death of Mr. Knight resulted from a cerebral hemorrhage which he suffered on 30 March. He had been hospitalized since that time. The decedent was a member of a pioneer family of Jersey County and had spent practically his entire lifetime on the Knight homestead near Dow. His parents were the late Joseph and Margaret Elmeda McDow Knight, and his birth occurred on 11 July 1879. At the time of death he was aged seventy-seven years, nine months and five days. Following his graduation from the former Jerseyville High school, Mr. Knight studied medicine for a time at Washington University in St. Louis but later returned to Dow to assume management of the Knight farm land. In addition to his farm responsibilities Mr. Knight represented Mississippi township on the Jersey County Board of Supervisors for several years. Mr. Knight is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen Reed Knight; one son, Joseph, prominent democrat who is presently serving as treasurer of his political party in Illinois, and one brother, Herbert Knight of Jerseyville who has been in ill health for a number of years.

KOELMEL. Died 17-05-1916. Jersey County Democrat, 25 May 1916: Mrs. Eva Kramer Koelmel, nee Shoeller was born in Wurtenburg, Germany on 15 February 1836 and came to this country in 1853, settling in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, later coming to Jersey County where she had lived until she passed away on 17 May 1916. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Zieser at the age of 80 years. She leaves daughter and three grandchildren.
KOENIG. Died 22-03-1951. Unknown newspaper, March 1951: Joseph Koenig, 76, a retired farmer, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, 22 March, at nine thirty o’clock at his home on Cleveland Street. He had been in failing health for some time and died while in his workshop at his home. The decedent was a son of the late Sebastian and Mary Wahl Koenig and was born at Dale, Indiana, on 24 August 1875. At the time of death he had attained the age of seventy-six years, six months and twenty-eight days. Mr. Koenig had been a resident of Jerseyville for the past eleven years. He is survived by three sons, Joseph Koenig, Jr., and George Koenig of Jerseyville and Charles Koenig of Dow; four daughters, Mrs. Charles Hughes, Mrs. Thomas Kelly and Mrs. Thomas Hughes of Jerseyville and Mrs. Mary Roth of Hardin. He also leaves fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home. Funeral rites were held Tuesday morning, 25 March at 9:30 o’clock at the church of the Holy Ghost. Requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. Father P. O. Heinen and interment was in St. Michael’s cemetery in Calhoun County.

She was born on 28 December 1973 in Alton to Harold and Joann (Halter) Koenig. She was a student at Delhi Elementary school. Survivors include her parents; brothers, Joseph Koenig at home and Terry Ritchey of Fieldon ; and sisters, Lynn Koenig at home, . . . rest of obituary is missing.

Miller, Jerseyville were conducted Wednesday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home by Father William Hembrow. Burial was in Roselawn Memory Gardens, Bethalto. She died at 6:30 a.m. on 22 June at Barnes hospital in St. Louis. Born on 17 April 1921 in Missouri, she was the daughter of the Late Walter and Clara Spore Benson. Her husband, Norbert O. Koenig, died on 28 September 1975. She is survived by a son, Gary Koenig of Jerseyville; one daughter, Geraldine English of Farmington, Missouri; four grandchildren; and three sisters, May Leimkueller and Clara Cramer of Morrison, Missouri and Ann Baecker of Canyon City, Colorado. The rosary was recited Tuesday evening at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home. The Cancer Society and St. Louis Children’s Hospital have been designated as memorials.

A World War II veteran, he was born in June, 1912 in Rhineland, Missouri, a son of Walter and Clara Hoffmann Koenig. Koenig was employed in the cast shop at Olin and was a member of the Westerner Club. He is survived by his widow, Sleatha Marie Barson Koenig; a son, Gary Koenig of Jerseyville; one daughter, Mrs. Byron (Geraldine) English of Elvens, Missouri; three grandchildren; two brothers, Christopher Koenig and George Koenig of Hermann, Missouri; and three sisters, Mrs. Tony (Laura) Potterbaum of Rhineland, Missouri, Mrs. Leroy (Florence) Kuebler and Mrs. Arthur (Anna Mae) Landolt of Hermann, Missouri. His parents and one sister preceded him in death. The rosary was recited Monday evening at the Jacoby Funeral Home.

Komarek, aged 83 years, 3 months and 18 days, died at his home, 7 miles east of Jerseyville Saturday, Oct. 12, 1918, at 11:20 a.m. Funeral services were held from the church of the Holy Ghost, Monday, Oct. 14th, at 10:00 a.m. High mass was celebrated by Rev. Eckhard. Interment in St. Francis cemetery.
KOMAREK. Died 10-06-1972. Unknown newspaper, undated: Funeral mass was celebrated Tuesday morning at the Church of the Holy Ghost for John W. Komarek, one of Jersey County’s few centenarians, who died on 10 June at Garnet’s Chateau, five days after his 101st birthday. Rev. Robert Heintz was celebrant. Interment was in St. Francis Xavier cemetery. A retired farmer, he was born on 5 June 1871 in Fieldon, the son of Frank and Katherine Matjaka Komarek. His only survivors are nieces and nephews. Visitation hours were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home where the rosary was recited Monday evening.
KOONTZ. Died 27-12-1953. Unknown newspaper, 1953: Mrs. Cora Lee Koontz, widow of Zoran Koontz, died at her home, 210 East Exchange Street, Sunday afternoon, 27 December, at three fifteen o’clock. She had been ill for some time. the deceased was a daughter of the late Charles and Rachael Campbell Williamson and was born in Jersey County on 2 June 1878. Her age at the time of death was seventy-five years, six months and twenty five days. She is survived by one son, Theodore A. Koontz of Jerseyville. Funeral services were held at two o’clock Wednesday afternoon, 30 dec, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home. Rev. F. W. Schwarzlose, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.
KOSTER. Died 23-06-1970. Unknown source: George Joseph Koster, son of George William and Ella Rawe Koster was born in Green County on 23 February 1907 and died on 23 June 1970. He married Mary Wilhekmina Beiermann, daughter of Andrew and Mary Munstermann Beiermann on 15 June 1938. They were the parents of 2 daughters, Mary Ellen Roemer, born 21 July 1939 who has five children: Ellen, Arthur, Karen, Charles and Mary; and Virginia Ann Steinacher who has three children: Jeffery, Martin and Patricia.
KOUPAL. Died 04-06-1942. Unknown newspaper, 12 June 1942: Funeral services for Joseph Koupal, 88, were held from the Oscar Hosmister Funeral Chapel in St. Louis to St. John’s Nepom church at 9 a.m. Saturday, 6 June. Interment was in St. Peter & Paul cemetery. Mr. Koupal died at the Little Sisters of the Poor Home for the Aged at 12:15 a.m. Thursday, 4 June where he had been a patient for sometime. He was born in Austria on 17 March 1854 and came to this country when twenty-three years of age. He lived in Jersey County for a number of years where he was engaged in farming. Later he moved with his family to St. Louis where he spent the remainder of his life. His Wife, Katherine Jilek Koupal, preceded him in death three years ago. He is survived by three children, Mrs. Charles Heisler, Mrs. John Burkart and John Koupal of St. Louis, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Attending the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Leon Mashburn, Frank and Joe Kallal, Ed Jilek and Miss Christina Jilek of Jerseyville and John Jilek of Alton.
KOWAL. Died 31-05-1971. Unknown newspaper, 3 June 1971: Requiem mass for Mrs. Mary Ann Kowal, 79, of this city was celebrated at 10:00 o’clock Wednesday morning at St. Francis Xavier church with Father Francis Lee celebrant. Her death occurred at Jersey Community Hospital Monday. Interment was in St. Francis cemetery. She was born on 7 January 1892. Her husband was the late Dmytro Kowal. She is survived by two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Stephen Charow and Mrs. Harry Charow, both of Jerseyville; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Olga Bayne and Mrs. Anna Kocaruk of Detroit, Michigan. Three sons, a brother and a sister preceded her in death. Visitation was held at the Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home where the rosary was recited at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday.
KRALLMAN. Died 09-02-1990. Unknown newspaper: Red Bud – Former Grafton resident, Grace Mildred “Diddie” Krallman, 77, died at 1:59 a.m. Friday, 9 February 1990 at St. Clement’s hospital in Red Bud. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Red Bud and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ruma. Born in Grafton, she was the daughter of the Late Clarence and Ethel (Green) Wallace. Her husband, James W. Krallman, preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, Richard Krallman of Red Bud; two grandchildren; three sisters, Ethal Mae Bray of Grafton, Clara Bailey of Jerseyville and Patsy Fleming of Lake Panasoffkis, Florida .; and a brother, John “Pete” Wallace of Jerseyville. A son, James Krallman, Jr. Preceded her in death. Services were held on Saturday at Dashner Funeral Home in Red Bud. Burial was in Bellfontaine cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or Red Bud Senior Nutritional Center.
KRAMER. Died 06-01-1974. Unknown newspaper, 10 January 1974: Private funeral rites were held at Jacoby Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon, 8 January, for Anthony Kramer , 83, of 807 E. Carpenter street, Jerseyville. Rev. R. E. George officiated. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. His death occurred at 11:45 pm on 6 January at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home. A retiree from Olin Corp., he was born on 18 February 1890 in Brighton, a son of John and Margaret Wahl Kramer. His survivors are his widow, Mrs. Nona Kramer; three daughters, Miss Mary Caroline Kramer and Mrs. Leroy Freand of Jerseyville and Mrs. Russell Van Meter of Florissant, Missouri, four grandchildren.
KRAMER. Died 00-06-1912. Jerseyville Republican, June 1912: John Jacob Kramer died at the home of James N. Crone, three miles west of Kane at the age of 35 years. The funeral was from the home of deceased’s sister, Mrs. Elmer Perry with Rev. Jacob Doellefeld.

KRAMER. Died 00-11-1903. Jerseyville Republican, 19 November 1903: John Kramer, 76 years old, was found dead at his home in McClusky. Inquest was held. Death was by his own hand. His wife died last winter and he had been despondent. Burial was in East Newbern. Related article: Unknown newspaper, undated: Jerseyville – John Kramer, more familiarly termed, “Celery Jack,” has an eye for the beautiful, as well as a taste for things good. “Celery Jack” has won for himself that name as a champion celery grower and he is now devoting a part of his time to floral culture.
KRAMER. Unknown newspaper: Jerseyville – Sophia Elizabeth “Rudy” Kramer, 82, formerly of Roxana, died at 9:12 p.m. Saturday, 29 June 1991 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. Born in Waco, Texas on 16 September 1908, she was a daughter of the late Junior and Emma (Cudd) Johnson. She married Lester A. Kramer on 7 December 1926 in Texas. He died on 14 February 1970. She served as senior regent with the Wood River Moose Lodge. He was born on 11 April 1905 in Jerseyville to the late Henry Kramer and Kyla Mason. He married Edna Carpunky in Jerseyville in 1926. She died in November 1979. He was a farmer. He was a member of the carpenters union. Survivors include sons Jay and Jerry, both of Jerseyville; Daughters Joan Nenstel of Wichita, Kansas., Doris Cox of Colorado Spring, Colorado and Eleanor Johnson of Alton; brother Joseph Kramer of Jerseyville; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. Visitation was on 16 April at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The funeral was on 17 April at the funeral home and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.

His death occurred Saturday evening at Jersey Community Hospital where he had been a patient for four days. Rev. L. E. Hutchinson of Jerseyville officiated at the rites with interment in Oak Grove cemetery. An operating engineer at Shell Oil Company until 1961, he was born on 17 June 1903 in Jerseyville, a son of the late Henry A. and Kila Mason Kramer. Mr. Kramer was a member of the Baptist church of Roxana and held membership in the Jerseyville Loyal Order of Moose and local Eagles Lodge. His is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sophie Johnson Kramer; three sons, Texas of Rock Island, Henry of Marshall, Missouri, and Lester Joe of Alton; two daughters , Mrs. Noveda Williams of Alton and Mrs. Rita Sue Denham of Jerseyville; 14 grandchildren; and two brothers, Arthur and Joseph, both of Jerseyville. His parents, three sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.

A lifetime Jersey County farmer, he retired in 1981. He was a member of the Jersey County Farm Bureau and was a World War II Army veteran. Born in Jerseyville on 2 June 1919, he was a son of the late Henry and Kila (Mason) Kramer. On 10 April 1943, in Fort Lincoln, MD, he married the former Mildred Blackhurst. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters and two sons-in-law, Donna R. and Robert A. Lucas of Meadowbrook and Diana M. and Darwyn Perdun of Edwardsville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joseph R. Kramer, Jr. and David P. and Margaret Kramer, all of Jerseyville; and four grandchildren, Scott, Bart and Matt Kramer and Wendy Perdun. He was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Gusber Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. John Allen will officiate. KRANICH. Died 18-02-1985. Unknown newspaper, 21 February 1985: Paul E. Kranich, 78, retired pharmacist of Jerseyville, died at 11:45 p.m. on 18 February at Garnet’s Chateau. Born on 15 July 1906 in Macoupin county, he was the son of Jacob C. and Alice Katherine Fisher Kranich. Kranich came to Jerseyville in 1943 after being in the pharmacy business in St. Louis. He started to work at Reese Drug, later Kirby Drug, and then for Thrifty Drug. He bought Thrifty Drug in 1958 which became Kranich Drug and also had a store in White Hall at that time. He continued as owner-operator until he retired in June 1983. He was a member of the Jerseyville Moose, Elks and Eagles Lodges. He served in the military for six months with the citizens military training camp. His survivors are his wife, the former Reba Bouillon whom he married on 25 August 1932 in Edwardsville; a daughter, Judy Otero, Albuquerque, New Mexico; one son, Roger Kranich of Rogers, Arkansas., three grandchildren, a great grandchild; one brother, Lester Kranich of Litchfield. Visitation was Wednesday evening at Gubser Funeral Home from 6 to 9, continuing Thursday at Meinschein Funeral Home, 623 N. State, Litchfield, from 11 a.m. to the time of services at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Joe Justin officiating. Burial was in Elmwood cemetery there.

She was a bookkeeper and clerk for a family-owned business, Kranich drugstore of Jerseyville. Born in Atwater, daughter of the late George and Lola (Kelly) Bouillon, she married Paul E. Kranich on 25 August 1932, in Edwardsville. He preceded her in death on 18 February 1985. Surviving are one Daughter, Judy Otero of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one son, Roger of Rogers, Arkansas., three grandchildren; one great grandchild; two brothers, Mason Bouillon of Litchfield and Clifford Bouillon of Centralia; and five sisters, Velma Fudoli, Charlotte Fleming, Irene Goldasich and Betty Weiss, all of Litchfield, and Clara Flogeman of Centralia. He was born on 20 May 1906 in Jerseyville, the son of Thomas A. and Penelope Van Pelt Kraus and was auditor for the telephone company. He leaves wife, the former Ruby Marlowe whom he married in September 1930 in St. Louis; two brothers, Paul H. and Thomas W. Kraus, a sister, sister Anna Rose, all of St. Louis. He was preceded in death by a sister. Services were at Holy Ghost church.
KRAUS. Died 26-01-1914. Unknown newspaper, 1914: Relentless death, Tuesday morning at 5:50 a.m. entered the home of County Clerk, Thomas A. Kraus and deprived him of his beloved brother, William J. Kraus, at an age of only 34 years, 3 months and 5 days. He was a son of the late John A. Kraus and his wife, Frances, nee Bertman, and was born to them at Fieldon on 21 October 1880. In recent years he filled in a highly efficient and most courteous manner the position of Deputy County Clerk, gaining friends galore by his jolly and obliging disposition and his eagerness to bestow favors on the public. Recently the ferric hand of sickness checked his career and made it impossible to take him to the sunny south, where, it was hoped, the mild climate would restore his health. Everything within human power was done to save his life, still death claimed its victim. Tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock, the funeral services will be held at St. Francis Xavier’s church. A solemn requiem high mass will be celebrated by Rev. J. J. Clancy, assisted by Rev. E. Eckhard as deacon and Rev. M. J. Mee as sub-deacon and then the earthly remains will be consigned to the silent grave at the Catholic cemetery. He is survived by three sisters, Mesdames Elizabeth Krueger, Louisa Kallal and Nellie Allen; also three brothers, Thomas A. Kraus of Jerseyville, Henry G. Kraus of Missouri and Louis F. Kraus of Colorado. Decedent was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Woodmen of the World and we consider ourselves justified to apply in this instance the words: death loves a shining . . . rest of obituary is missing.

Jerseyville Republican, 6 November 1924: Amelia Louise Gerson Krause was born on 24 January 1847 in Rummelsburg, Hinterpommern Camnitz, Prussia, and died on 26 October 1924 at home of her son, August Krause, 3 miles west of Jerseyville. She was the daughter of Fred and Charlotte Gerson. She married August Krause of Rheinfeldt, Rummelsburg Hinterpommern, Prussia on 26 October 1868, who died 41 years ago on 6 July 1883. They came to America in May, 1872 to Joplin, Missouri. And then moved to Fieldon. Nine children were born, three preceded her in death. She leaves: Mrs. Augusta Meyer of Granite City, Mrs. Louise Genard of Granite City, Mr. John Krause of Granite City, Mr. George Krause of Jerseyville; 18 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; a brother, John Gerson of Jerseyville. Her six nephews, all sons of brother, John, acted as pallbearers. Four grandchildren , Misses Elma Genard, Gussie Meyer, Ruth Nestler, Louise Krause, were flower carriers. The funeral was from the Evangelical church of Fieldon with Rev. C. Kuhlman. Burial in Fieldon cemetery.

She was born in Calhoun County on 16 August 1895 , a daughter of William and Anna Arnold Pohlman. Her husband, Walter Krehl, died on 23 September 1970. Only survivors are nieces and nephews. Giraud of Godfrey and the Rev. Everett Chambers of Jerseyville officiating. His death occurred at 3:37 p.m. on 1 January at St. Joseph’s hospital, Alton. Born in Batchtown on 12 October 1929, he was a son of Isaac and Viola Brinkman Kress. He had recently retired from Owens Illinois machine shop where he was employed as a welder. Kress was a member of the Faith Lutheran church of Godfrey, VFW Post 1308, Alton-wood River Sportsman Club and Onized Club. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict. His survivors include his widow, Noveda Kramer Kress ; two stepsons, Gregory and Michael Williams of Jerseyville; two Daughters, Vicki Baggio of Alton and Linda of Godfrey; two sisters, Mrs. Doris Schobrend of Alton and Mrs. Laverne Guesewelle of Bethalto; one brother, Ronald Kress of Nutwood. The Brain Tumor Research of St. Louis was designated as a memorial.

Gibson, pastor of Alton Presbyterian church. Burial was in Oak Grove mausoleum. He was born in 1849 in Fremont, Ohio; in 1886 moved to St. Louis where he was in business 20 years. Huston of St. Louis; son, Walter of Jerseyville; 2 grandchildren, Dorothy Huston and Louis Kridler.

Kridler, he came to Jerseyville 15 years ago and engaged in the harness business under firm name of Kridler & Son. The business was in the Jennings building on South State Street. Kridler was 50 years of age and is survived by his wife and one daughter, Lois; mother and one sister, Mrs. J. W. Houston of St. Louis. The funeral was from home with Rev. W. S. Neely. Jerseyville Lodge No. 394 AF & AM was in charge of service. Burial was in Oak Grove mausoleum.
KROESCHEL. Died 15-11-1987. Unknown newspaper, 26 September 1987: Alta Naomi Kroeschel, 96, of Jerseyville, died on 15 November at Garnet’s Chateau Nursing Home in Jerseyville. She was born on 9 September 1891 in Calhoun County to the Late James and Josephine (Presley) Plummer. She married John Henry Kroeschel; he died in 1942. Survivors include sons: Charles of Jerseyville, Raymond of East Alton and John of New Salem; seven grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 18 great great grandchildren. Visitation and the funeral were at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville with the Rev. Clyde Myers officiating. Burial was in Hardin cemetery. A memorial can be made to one’s choice.

Unknown newspaper, 2 January 1969: Committal services were held at Oak Grove cemetery in Jerseyville Saturday for Mrs. Lilah Krotzsch of 2068 South 5th Street, Springfield, whose death occurred Wednesday at the Memorial hospital in Springfield. Prior to the committal rites here services were held at one o’clock at the Bisch Memorial Home with Dr. Edward Ziegler officiating. Mrs. Krotzsch, widow of Dr. G. J. Kortzsch, dentist who died in 1948, was born and reared in Jersey County. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Parsell, early residents of the county. Her age at the time of death was eighty-seven years. Upon completing her elementary and high school education in the Jerseyville school system, she was graduated from the Chicago School of Music in 1910. She taught music in Springfield for many years and had also been an antique collector. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian church and was the organist of that church for many years. Her only immediate survivor is a sister, Stella Parsell, also of Springfield.

KRUEGER. Died 22-12-1986. Unknown newspaper, January 1986: Former Batchtown resident, George Louis Krueger, 90, of Jerseyville, died on 22 December in Jerseyville Care Center. He was born on 2 February 1895 in Fieldon to George Krueger and Elizabeth Springman Krueger. He was a veteran of World War I and a self employed salesman. Survivors include cousins. His body was donated to St. Louis University Medical School. Memorials have been established to Calhoun County ambulance service and Fieldon United Church of Christ. Gubser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Krueger, of Fieldon, Assistant Postmaster of the Fieldon post office, died at 5:35 a.m. on 6 February at Jersey Community Hospital. Miss Krueger was born on 3 March 1912 in Fieldon, the daughter of the Late L. J. and Emma Kessler Krueger. She is survived by two brothers, Harold and Albert Krueger, both of Fieldon. She was preceded in death by two brothers. Funeral services were held at 1:30 today (February 8) at the Fieldon United Church of Christ, Rev. Robert Broeder officiating, with burial in the Fieldon cemetery. Eastern Star services were held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home where visitation was held that evening and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the funeral time. The Fieldon United Church of Christ has been named as a memorial.

Unknown newspaper, 31 December 1970: Funeral services were held at one -thirty o’clock Monday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home for Frank Krueger, retired area farmer, whose death occurred at Memorial hospital in Alton on Christmas afternoon. Rev. Leonard Todd of Moro officiated and burial was in Fieldon cemetery. Military graveside rites were conducted. Mr. Krueger, a son of the late Henry and Barbara Hagen Krueger, was born in Fieldon. His age at the time of death was seventy four years, nine months and fourteen days. Mr. Krueger was in military service in World War I. His survivors are one son, Maurice Williams of Jerseyville, two brothers, Emil Krueger of Wood River and Anthony Krueger of Jerseyville; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Stahlhut of East Alton and Mrs. Edna Hart of Mcleansboro, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She came to US in 1854 and to Jersey County in 1856. She married William Krueger at Chicago, Illinois and came to Grafton. William died in June 1894.

He was a farmer, born in Fieldon, son of the late Louis John and Emma (Kessler) Krueger. He was married to Freda Hamilton on 12 September 1936 and she died on 22 September 1962. He then married Fern Pauline Lyles Cummings on 30 April 1975 in Edwardsville. She survives in Fieldon. Also surviving are a son, Donald L. of Waterloo; four Daughters, Marcella Marie McCallister of Pana, Phyllis Ann Long of East Alton, Karen Linn Krueger of Alton and Cristal Ourdehner of Matteson; seven grandchildren; and one brother, Harold of Fieldon. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Masonic services will be conducted at 7 p.m. by the Fieldon Masonic Lodge. KRUEGER. Allie M. Krueger, 85, of Wood River, died at 12:17 p.m. Sunday, 7 June 1987 at VIP Manor in Wood River, after a short illness. She was born in Madison County, Kentucky, a daughter of the Late Algie T. and Dollie (Turner) Willis. On 16 March 1926 in Jerseyville, she married Amiel Krueger, and he survives. Also surviving are two grandchildren; four Sisters, Irma Croxford of Godfrey, Amy Willis and Dorothy Roody, both of Jerseyville, and Hazel Shanks of Florida; and a brother, Ralph Willis of White Hall. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty L. Wilson. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today with services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River. Burial will be at Oak Grove cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist church of Wood River, where she was a member.

Unknown newspaper, 13 August 1959: Final rites for Louis John Krueger, well-known Fieldon resident and a former supervisor from Richwood township, were held Sunday afternoon, 9 August at two o’clock at Christ Evangelical and Reformed church in Fieldon, of which he was a member. Rev. Alton Loar, pastor of the church, officiated and burial was in the Fieldon cemetery. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home where on Saturday evening (picture of decedent appears here in obituary) at eight o’clock Masonic services were conducted by Fieldon Lodge No. 592. The death of Mr. Krueger occurred Thursday evening, 6 August at 8:10 o’clock at his home in Fieldon where he had resided for more than thirty years. He had been in failing health for some time. The decedent was a son of the late William C. and Dorothea Prill Krueger and was born in Jersey County on 22 November 1873. His age at the time of death was eighty-five years, eight months and fourteen days. As a young man, Mr. Krueger engaged in farming. He was married on 30 April 1896 to Miss Emma Kessler and their sixty third wedding anniversary occurred this year. Mr. Krueger was active in civic affairs and the Masonic Lodge of Fieldon. He had been a member of the Lodge for forty-seven years and served as its treasurer for twenty-nine years. He served as member of the Jersey County Board of Supervisors from 1924 to 1933, a position now held by his son, Supervisor Harold L. Krueger. The latter was elected to the post in 1945. The decedent also served as a school director for twenty years and was a member of the Directorate of Fieldon State Bank at the time it was purchased by the State Bank of Jerseyville several years ago. Surviving Mr. Krueger are his wife, Mrs. Emma Krueger, one daughter, Miss Hilda F. Krueger, and two sons, Supervisor Harold L. Krueger and Albert F. Krueger, all of Fieldon, one brother, Charles Krueger, 98 years old Jerseyville resident; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Walter and William Krueger.

Democrat News, 17 August 1967: “Died in Car Wreckage”: Edward Krueger, 64, of 103 North Liberty Street, Jerseyville, died in flames which engulfed his automobile after it crashed into a CIPS pole five miles west of Jerseyville on route 16 about seven-fifteen o’clock Tuesday evening. Trooper James Warford told a reporter for the Democrat News that while at the scene of another car fire in Delhi , he received a call to go five miles west of Jerseyville where a man was pinned in a car which was burning. The investigating officer reports that he found that a 1961 Cadillac 4-door driven west by Krueger had run off the north side of the road, overturned, clipped off a CIPS pole, and caught fire. Trooper Warford said that due to the electricity those arriving on the scene were unable to get to Krueger. Krueger, were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. H. O. Renken officiating. Interment was in Valhalla Memorial Park. Mrs. Krueger, who had resided at 406 West Spruce, this city, the past nineteen years, died Thursday morning , 6 April at 7:35 o’clock at the Jersey Community Hospital where she had been a patient for five weeks. Mrs. Krueger, a daughter of the late Andrew and Susan Henrion Kitzmiller, was born in Jersey County on 23 October 1893. Her age at death was seventy-three years, five months, and thirteen days. Surviving her are one son, Robert L. Krueger of Jerseyville, two daughters, Mrs. Wilbur Bean and Mrs. Harold E. Downey of Jerseyville, five grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Hallie) Payer and Mrs. Adna (Mary) Snow of St. Louis, Mrs. Robert E. (Carrie Lee) Hefner of Jerseyville, and two brothers , Warren Kitzmiller of Alton and William Kitzmiller of San bernardino, California.

During his illness he was hospitalized at the Jersey Community Hospital for several weeks. Final rites were held on Monday afternoon, 12 oct, at two o’clock at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home. Rev. He was born in Fieldon, son of the late Louis and Emma (Kessler) Krueger. He married the former Leola Busch of Fieldon on 26 October 1921 in Belleville. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Harold L. Krueger, Jr. of Godfrey; two granddaughters; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Gubser Funeral Home. Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday and will be performed by Fieldon Masonic Lodge 592 AF & AM funeral services will be Gubser Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Monday with Rev. KRUSE. Unknown newspaper: Jerseyville – Gottlieb Martin Kruse, 91, died at 12:45 a.m. Friday, 20 November 1991 at Greenwood Manor in Jerseyville. A printer, he was employed by the Wood River Journal, the Democrat News in Jerseyville and retired in 1965 from the Telegraph in Alton. He was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey, the Shriners and Alton Telegraph retirees. Born in Madison County on 30 June 1900, he was a son of the late August W. and Gesche (Zimmerman) Kruse. On 11 July 1928 in Jerseyville, he married the former Ada Bloomer, and she died on 20 October 1976. He married the Former Whilhelmina Grabbe Rhinehardt in 1980. She died in 1987. Surviving are four daughters, Mary Van Hemert of Holbrook, Arizona, Barbara Schafer of Brighton, Elaine Thiel of Carrollton and Sylvia McMaster of Altona; 16 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and a brother, Herman Kruse of Lodi, California. A son, Henry John Kruse; two grandchildren; four brothers, August, Fred, Emil and Edward Kruse; and four sisters, Anna Smith, Emma Plegge, Maymie Balster and Gesche Lotz preceded him in death. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with rites at 7 p.m. by Jerseyville Masonic Lodge. She was born in Springfield on 3 January 1909, a daughter of John G. and Mary Maude Whipple Bloomer. Mrs. Kruse was a member of the Presbyterian church and Esther bible class and the Jerseyville Order of Eastern Star. Her survivors are her husband, Gottlieb M. Kruse; four daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Mary) Fenimore of Joseph City, Arizona, Mrs. William (Barbara) Schafer of Brighton, Mrs. William N. (Elaine) Theil of Carrollton and Mrs. Hugh R. (Sylvia) McMaster of Altona; 16 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Fred V. Peter of Cambridge and Mrs. Wilbur S. Anderson of Michael; and one brother, Thomas Bloomer of Champaign. She was preceded in death by one son, Henry Kruse in 1970, her parents and one brother, John Bloomer. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on 23 October at the First Presbyterian church with the Rev. M. Edwards Breed officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Friends may call at Jacoby Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Friday until noon Saturday. KRUSE. Died 20-12-1958. Unknown newspaper, 25 December 1958: “Dr. Kruse died early Saturday”: Dr. O. T. Kruse, retired optometrist of this city, died Saturday morning, 20 December at six o’clock at his home, 506 West Exchange Street. he had been in failing health for some time but his death followed a short illness of pneumonia. Friends called at the Gubser Funeral Home. Final rites were held Tuesday afternoon, 23 December at two o’clock at the First Presbyterian church of which he was a member. Rev. M. Edwards Breed officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Dr. Kruse was a son of the late Gottlieb G. and Elizabeth Thuman Kruse and was born on 13 July 1876 at Bluff Springs, Illinois, near Virginia. He was the surviving member of a family of eleven brothers and sisters. Dr. Kruse was aged eighty-two years, five months and seven days. He attended college in Dixon, Illinois, and taught school near Virginia after which he received training in optometry and medicine in Chicago and St. Louis. He practiced optometry in St. Louis where he was married on 24 July 1904 to Miss Cora Buxton. They were the parents of two children. In 1927 the Kruse family moved to Jerseyville where Dr. Kruse practiced his profession until his retirement in 1953. The death of his wife occurred in January, 1930. On 3 July 1937, Dr. Kruse was married to Miss Minnie Brockman of this city who with his children by his previous marriage survive him. They are Mrs. Helmut (June) Rehder of Austin, Texas, and Edward C. Kruse of Jerseyville. He is also survived by four grandchildren.

M. E. Breed officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Her death occurred at 3:15 p.m. on 23 June at Jersey Community Hospital. Her husband, Dr. O. T. Kruse died in December, 1958. Born on 20 September 1886 she was the daughter of the late William F. and Caroline Schaefer Brockman. In her early years she was a piano teacher, known as Miss Minnie. She started as bookkeeper for her father at Brockman Cigar Store in 1904 and was later associated with her brother, Louis H. brockman, until she retired in 1954. Mrs. Kruse was a member of the First Presbyterian church, Rebekah Lodge and was a 50-year member of the Royal Neighbors and Order of Eastern Star. Her survivors are a nephew, William F. Brockman of Jerseyville; one stepson, Edward Kruse of Jerseyville; stepdaughter, Mrs. Helmut (June) Rehder of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren.

Robert Broeder officiating. Burial was in the Fieldon cemetery. She died at 8:10 p.m. on 31 July at Jersey Community Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Kruse was clerk at the Jerseyville water department for many years. She had also served as Fieldon town treasurer and clerk and was a former naturalist at Pere Marquette State Park. Born in Fieldon on 20 July 1912 , she was a daughter of the late Louis and Ida Taylor Brueggemann. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Fieldon United Church of Christ and Better Business Bureau of Fieldon. Her survivors are two daughters, Sharon Anderson of Lockport and Carol Pondelick of Chicago; two grandchildren, Susan and Philip Anderson; and two sisters, Mary Skinner of Fieldon and Lois Healey of Brighton. Her parents and a sister, Helen P. Miller preceded her in death. The body will be moved to the Fieldon United Church of Christ. at 9 a.m. Monday, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Broeder officiating. The Eastern Star Lodge in Jerseyville, of which she was a past worthy matron, will hold services at 7:30 p.m Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Fieldon cemetery and memorials may be made to the church memorial fund or to the American Cancer Society.

Unknown newspaper, 1915: Mrs. Emma Kruse, nee Oertel, of Godfrey, Sunday evening after a lingering illness of several months duration passed away at the hospital in Jacksonville at an age of about 32 years. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Oertel, a highly respected family of Paradise, reared on the parental farm and . . . rest of obituary is missing.
KUEBRICH. Died 18-07-1977. Unknown newspaper, 21 July 1977: Funeral mass for Joseph Herman Kuebrich, 62, of 326 E. Prairie Street, Jerseyville was con-celebrated this morning, 21 July at St. Francis Xavier church with father William Hembrow and Father R. T. Shea con-celebrants. He was stricken with a heart attack Monday evening at the Knights of Columbus hall and was pronounced dead on arrival at 8:30 p.m. on 18 July at Jersey Community Hospital. An open house scheduled for 23 July at the Knights of Columbus hall has been cancelled. Kuebrich was auto parts department manager at Sunderland Motor Company where he has been employed since 12 January 1948. He was financial secretary of the Jerseyville Knights of Columbus Chapter since July 1947 and a member of the Fourth Degree Knights, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, having served in the military in World War II. He was born in Jersey County on 15 July 1915, a son of John and Caroline Yoker Kuebrich. His survivors are his widow, the former Pauline Vaughn whom he married in September 1941; one son, Ronald Kuebrich, and a daughter, Carol Kuebrich of Jerseyville; two brothers, Leo Kuebrich of Kemper and Paul Kuebrich of Jerseyville. His parents, one brother and two sisters preceded him in death. The rosary was recited Wednesday evening at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home.

Kuebrich”: mass of the resurrection for Francis Kuebrich, 66, of Route Four, Jerseyville will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. today (Thursday) at the Church of the Holy Ghost with Father Robert L. Heintz, celebrant. His death occurred at 5:25 p.m. on 26 June in St. Joseph’s hospital at Alton. Interment will be in St. Francis Xavier cemetery. Mr. Kuebrich, whose health had been impaired for several years, had been a patient in the intensive care unit at St. Joseph’s hospital for a month. Mr. Kuebrich, who had engaged in farming, was born on 8 November 1905 in Jersey County, a son of John and Caroline Jokers Kuebrich. He was a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, the former Josephine W. Becker; three sons, Theodore J. Kuebrich, Robert F. Kuebrich, and William A. Kuebrich, all of Jerseyville; one grandson; three brothers , Leo Kuebrich of Medora; Paul Kuebrich and Joseph Kuebrich of Jerseyville. His parents and two sisters preceded him in death. Visitation was held at Jacoby Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Wednesday where the rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Born in Mozier on 31 May 1903, she was a daughter of the late Henry M. and Annie Elizabeth (Kitson) Grover. She married William Kuehnel on 15 September 1920. He died on 16 February 1979. Surviving are four daughters, Edith Scott, Helen Bounds and Opal Kallal, all of Jerseyvile, and Virginia Myers of Carrollton; seven sons, Eugene Kuehnel of Godfrey, Edward, Thomas, Herman “Jake,” Robert, William, and James Kuehnel, all of Jerseyville; a brother, Clarence Grover of Spring, Texas; 36 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Visitation continues from 9 a.m. Friday until service time at 10:30 a.m. at Delhi Baptist church, with the Rev. KEUHNEL. Died 16-02-1979. Unknown newspaper: William Henry Kuehnel, 75, of 618 Cleveland Street, Jerseyville was pronounced dead on arrival at Jersey Community Hospital at 2:31 p.m. on 16 February. Kuehnel was born on 23 March 1903 In Delhi, the son of Herman and Elizabeth Henneger Kuehnel. He was married to the former Viola Grover on 15 September 1921 in Edwardsville. He was a retired section foreman for the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad. He is survived by his wife, seven sons, Edward of Granite City, Gene of Godfrey, and James, Herman, William, Robert and Thomas, all of Jerseyville; four daughters, Edith Scott, Helen Bounds and Opal Kallal all of Jerseyville and Virginia Myers of Eldred; one brother, Frank Kuehnel of Wood River; one sister, Viola Siminot of Alton; 35 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, 19 February at the Delhi Baptist church, Rev. Earl Clagg and Rev. James Maxwell officiating and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. The family has designated the Delhi Baptist church as a memorial.

Born in Sikeston, Missouri on 12 August 1917, she was a daughter of the late Mack marlin and Edna Ethel (Martin) Gray. On 2 December 1945 in Pocahontas, Arkansas, she married William Edward Kuehnel. He survives. Also surviving are a son, Gary Kuehnel of Edwardsville; a daughter, Carolyn Reitz of St. Louis; two grandchildren; three brothers, Harold E. J. Gray of Godfrey, Carl Gray of Alton and Mack M. Gray Jr. of Jerseyville; five sisters, Louise Grenzeback of Hartford; Margie Morrison of Edwardsville, Ann Henson of Bethalto, Gail Miller of Jerseyville and Marsha Slaten of Dow. A sister, Carolyn Walz and two brothers, Wilson and Herman Gray, preceded her in death. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Clyde Meyers will officiate. Burial will be in Valhalla memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to family service and Visiting Nurse Association of Alton.

Unknown newspaper, 21 July 1971: “Services held Wednesday for Henry Kuelbs”: Final rites for Henry Kuelbs, 62, of Jerseyville were held yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home where visitation was held. Rev. Leonard Todd of Moro conducted the services with burial in the East Newbern cemetery. his death occurred at 11:30 p.m. on 25 July at Barnes hospital in St. Louis where he had been a patient for two weeks. He was born on 28 December 1908 in Dow, a son of Herman and Elsie Heise Kuelbs. Mr. Kuelbs was retired from Laclede Steel company. He is survived by two brothers, Fred Kuelbs of Dow and Herbert Keulbs of Portland, Oregon. His parents preceded him in death.

Unknown newspaper, 13 January 1984: Herbert Kuelbs, 77, of Portland, Oregon, formerly of Dow, died at 6 a.m. Saturday at providence hospital in Portland after a lengthy illness. Born in Jerseyville, son of the late Herman and Elizabeth (Heise) Kuelbs, he married the former Pearl Schaas in 1926, and she survives. He retired from Reynolds Metal Company in Portland in 1969, after 25 years of service. He worked for 18 years at Owens-Illinois and farmed in Dow for five years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Donald of Portland, Oregon; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one brother, Fred, of Kane. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today at Ross Hollywood Chapel in Portland and will continue there from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Services will be conducted at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. John Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Rose City cemetery in Portland. The Evangelical Congregational Church, 4927 NE 55th Ave., Portland, Oregon, 97218 has been designated as a memorial.

Kulp of Jerseyville. Rev. Leonard Todd of Moro is to officiate and burial will be in Rosedale cemetery. The death of Mr. Kulp, a retired glue maker at Owens-Illinois Glass Company, occurred at four forty-five o’clock Tuesday morning at the Jersey Community Hospital. A native of Calhoun County, Mr. Kulp, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kulp was born in Golden Eagle. His age at the time of death was eighty years, five months, and nineteen days. His survivors are his wife, Mary Ann Miles Kulp; and one brother, Andrew Kulp of Godfrey. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge of Alton.

Arch Street, Jerseyville was held yesterday afternoon (September 10) at the Hope Lutheran Church with the Rev. A. A. Ledebuhr officiating. Her death occurred at 1 a.m. on 7 September at the Alton Memorial hospital where she had been a patient for 13 days. Burial was in the Oak Grove cemetery. She was born in Wheatland, Michigan, on 12 June 1891, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Wagner. Her survivors include three sons, Frank Willenburg of Rural Route 3, Jerseyville; Albert Willenburg of Martinez, Geogia; and Edward Kulp, Nashville, Tennessee; five daughters, Mrs. Viola Hattermar of Livingston, Mrs. Ralph (Dorrine) Boushka and Adaline Kulp of Jerseyville, Mrs. Ottlie Wilschetz of Brussels, and Mrs. James C. (Irene) Langley of Dow; 23 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren. Her husband, Edward C. Kulp, died in May 1964; her first husband, George Willenburg, died in 1920. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, a daughter, three brothers and one sister. The family designates the cancer society as a memorial.

Born in Grafton, she was the daughter of the late John and Viola (Miller) Watson. She married Lawrence Kurten in 1944 in Grafton. He died on 19 September 1967. Surviving are a son, Frederick Niemeyer of Fieldon; five grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a brother, Arthur L. Watson of Grafton. Preceding her in death were three brothers and a sister. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with a rosary recitation at 7 p.m. a funeral mass is at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic church in Grafton with the Rev. Patrick Carroll as celebrant. Burial is in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be given to the Arthritis Foundation or masses.
KUTZENBERGER. Died 00-06-1911. Jerseyville Republican, 29 June 1911: Mrs. Mary Kutzenberger, wife of Dr. Joseph Kutzenberger, died Wednesday at home in Jerseyville after a short illness. Short funeral services were held at the home at 6:30 o’clock by Rev. W. H. Jordan, pastor of the First Baptist church. Her body was taken to Alton. At Alton, services were held at the First Presbyterian church by Rev. A. G. Lane. She was 58 years old, a native of Alton and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Bailey of Alton. She leaves husband, one son and three daughters. A sister, Mrs. Ada Schwallensticker of Alton, two brothers, George Bailey of St. Louis and Alfred Bailey of Chicago.
KYTE. Died 20-03-1983. Unknown newspaper, 29 March 1983: Services for Robert A. Kyte, 87, of Eldercare Nursing Home, Alton were conducted at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home by the Rev. V. Clay Noah. He died at 8:35 a.m. on 20 March at St. Anthony’s hospital in Alton. The World War I veteran was born on 20 August 1895 in Greene county, a son of Marshall and Ella Frank Kyte. He was a retired night watchman and boiler tender at the former International Shoe Factory. His only survivors are cousins. His wife was the late Liza King Kyte. Burial was in Kane cemetery. The American Cancer Society and heart fund have been named as memorials.
