KADEL. Jacob Kadel 36 years died at home of his mother. Funeral from Kadel home. Rev. Catt serving. Second son of Valentina Wilhelmina Kadel, born 4 May 1868 in St. Clair county. One of 11 children. Oak Grove cemetery. Jerseyville Republican Dec 1904.


KADEL. Valentine Kadel, took own life at his home. Had been ill. Inquest held by Coroner E. L. H. Barrey. 52 years old. Jerseyville Republican 29 September 1893.


KADELL. 02-06-1980: a funeral mass for William Francis Kadell, 84, of 106 Harrison, Jerseyville was celebrated Friday morning at Holy Ghost church with Father William Hembrow officiating. Burial was in St. Francis cemetery. He died at 12:45 a.m. 28 May at St. Joseph’s hospital, Alton. He was born 12 June 1895 in Jerseyville, a son of William V. and Mary Casey Kadell and is a retired farmer and Dekalb seed salesman. His survivors are five sons, Paul, William, Stuart, and Robert of Jerseyville, and Donald of Alton; five daughters, Virginia ??ven of Kampsville, Maurita Walsh and Betty Wahle of Jerseyville, Eileen Archer, of Shipman and Jean Cope, Godfrey, 34 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren and a sister, Mamie Arter of Jerseyville. His parents, wife, one son, a daughter and two sisters preceded him in death. The rosary was recited Thursday evening at Jacoby funeral home.


KADELL. Jerseyville – Dana J. Kadell, 21, was pronounced dead at 2:18 pm Monday, 20 July 1987, at the scene of an automobile accident on Illinois Route 267, south of Delhi. She was born in Greene county the daughter of Robert Kadell and Peggy (Giberson) Junge, both of Jerseyville. She was employed as a cashier at the Moto Station in Carrollton. In addition to her parents, surviving are a daughter, Alicia Dawn Kadell at home; three Sisters, Terri Meuth of Carrollton, and Jami Kirchner and Gina Kadell, both of Jerseyville; maternal grandparents, Carroll Giberson of White Hall and Pauline Griswold of Elsah; and maternal great grandfather, Carl Steinacher of Carrollton. Visitation is scheduled 4 to 9 pm Wed. at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. A rosary will be recited at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am Thursday at Holy Ghost Catholic church in Jerseyville with the Rev. William Hembrow as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Francis cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the Alicia Dawn Kadell Fund, in care of Jacoby Brothers funeral home.


KADELL. 09- Mar 1978: Friends and relatives of Louis M. Kadell Jr. Who died 7 March at home May call from 4 to 9 pm 10 March at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. The funeral for the 59-year old World War II veteran will be held at 11 am 11 March at the funeral home. Father Patrick Morrow will officiate and burial will be in St. Francis cemetery. Kadell’s survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Robin (Valerie) Benedict of Houston, Texas. And three grandchildren. He was a member of the Jerseyville American Legion and VFW and the 40 and 8.


KADELL. 20 September 1973: funeral services for Mrs. Frances A. Kadell of Jerseyville will be held at 9 am 21 September at Holy Ghost church with Rev. Robert L. Heintz officiating. Interment will be in St. Francis cemetery. Mrs. Kadell, 81, died Tuesday at Jersey Community Hospital. She was born 9 June 1892, the daughter of Frederick and Josephine Beiermann Goetten. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, a son and a daughter. Mrs. Kadell is survived by her husband, William F. Kadell and sons, Paul J., William A., Stuart G. and C. Robert, all of Jerseyville, and Donald R. of Alton. She is also survived by five daughters, Mrs. Virginia Stelbrink of Kampsville, Mrs. Martin (Maurita) Walsh of Jerseyville, Mrs. Marlin (Eileen) Archer of Shipman, Mrs. Truman (Betty) Wahle of Otterville and Mrs. Fred (Jean) Cope of Alton. Mrs. Kadell is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Nettie vaughn of Jerseyville, 34 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.


KADELL. Democrat News, Jerseyville, Illinois. 24 September 1959: Christian Science services were held at Jacoby Brothers funeral home Sunday afternoon, 20 September at three o’clock for Charles Edward Kadell, retired carpenter of Jerseyville, whose death occurred at twelve thirty-five o’clock Friday morning at the Jersey Community Hospital where he had been a patient for two days. Mrs. Harry Blish was the reader at the service and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr. Kadell was born in Jerseyville, April 20, 1881, a son of the late Valentine and Willamena Shrader Kadell. His age at the time of death was seventy-eight years, four months and twenty eight days. The decedent is survived by one brother, Louis Kadell of Jerseyville; one sister, Mrs. Mary Westerhold of Jerseyville, and nieces and nephews.


KADELL. 17 aug 1961: Mrs. Effie Mae Kadell who resided at 111 Walton Street, Jerseyville, died at nine-thirty o’clock Tuesday morning, August 15 at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Ferris in Jacksonville where she had been the past seventeen days. The body was brought to Jacoby Brothers funeral home where Christian Science services will be held at two o’clock this (Thursday) afternoon with Mrs. Jennie Mai Johnson of Elsah as reader. Interment will be in the Grimes-Neely cemetery. Mrs. Kadell was born in Nutwood, 4 March 1894, a daughter of the late Joshua and Emma Schaaf Powers, and her age at the time of death was sixty-seven years, five months, and eleven days. Her husband, Frank A. Kadell, preceded her in death. Surviving Mrs. Kadell are three daughters, Mrs. Priscilla Ferris of Jacksonville, Miss Ann Kadell of Chicago, Mrs. Patsy McCoy of Jerseyville; one son, Richard Kadell of Jerseyville; five grandchildren, one great granddaughter; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Kennedy of Jerseyville and Mrs. William Lafleur of Fieldon and one brother, William J. Powers of Yuba City , CA. The decedent was a charter member of the Christian Science church in Jerseyville.


KADELL. 11 August 1955: final rites were held Saturday morning, 6 August at 10:30 o’clock at Jacoby Brothers funeral home for Robert Kadell, Jr., infant son of Robert C. and Myrna Scoggins Kadell of Jerseyville. Rev. Paul P. Heinen, pastor of the church of the Holy Ghost, officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. The baby died Friday, 5 August shortly after his birth at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton. The baby’s father is in military service and is stationed in Germany.


Jerseyville – Richard “pat” Kadell, 65, died at 9:20 a.m. tuesday,19 March 1991, at christian hospital northwest in St. Louis county. For 37 years he was a rural mail carrier, retiring in 1980 and was later engaged in farming. He was a u.s. marine World War II veteran. Memberships included the Jerseyville American Legion post 492, Jerseyville VFW post 4528, national rifle association and disabled american veterans. Born in Jerseyville, he was a son of the late Frank A. and effie m.(powers) Kadell. On 12 September 1951, he married doris breitweiser in Jerseyville. She survives. Also surviving are a son, jerry Kadell of Jerseyville; two grandchildren; and three sisters, Ann Kadell of Chicago, priscilla ferris of Jacksonville and Patricia McCoy of Godfrey. Visitation is from 4 to 9p.m. Thursday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. A funeral mass is at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Ghost Catholic church in Jerseyville with the Rev. Lloyd P. Misho as celebrant. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and VFW posts in St. Francis Xavier cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to the church, where he was a member.


KADELL. 30 November 1972: funeral mass for Mrs. Rosemary Kadell, 42, of 710 north Harrison, Jerseyville, will be said at 9:30 am tomorrow (fri)at the Holy Ghost church with father Robert Heintz celebrant. Interment will be in St. Francis Xavier cemetery. Mrs. Kadell was pronounced dead on arrival at 9:50 pm at Jersey Community Hospital. She was born 30 August 1930 in Jerseyville, the daughter of Adrian and Marguerite Kappell Green. She was employed at the White Spot restaurant. She is survived by her husband, Stuart G. Kadell; two sons, James Kadell of Jerseyville and Jeff Kadell, at home; three daughters, Mrs. Paul (Janet) Cunningham of Jerseyville, Joan and Jennifer Kadell, at home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Green, Sr., of Jerseyville; one brother, Adrian Green, Jr. of Jerseyville and three grandsons. Visitation will be held after 4:00 p.m. today (Thurs) at Jacoby Brothers funeral home where the rosary will be recited at 7:00 o’clock this evening.


KADELL. 6 March 1958: Robert Lee Kadell, 37 year old construction worker of Jerseyville, died Tuesday morning, 4 March at 10 o’clock at the Jersey community hospital where he had been moved eight hours earlier. He had been ill of flu at his home, 404 south Washington, since Friday. The young man was a son of Louis H. and Mary Flynn Kadell and was born in Jerseyville on 10 June 1920. His age at the time of death was thirty-seven years, eight months and twenty-four days. Mr. Kadell was a veteran of World War II, and was a member of Worthey Post, American Legion. His fraternal affiliation was the Jerseyville Elks Lodge. Surviving the decedent in addition to his parents of this city are one son, Michael Lee Kadell of East Alton, and one brother, Louis M. Kadell of Jerseyville. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers funeral home. Final rites were held this (Thurs) morning at 9:30 o’clock at St. Francis Xavier church. Requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. Father R. Terry Shea and interment was in St. Francis cemetery.


KAFFER. 1942: Mrs. Martin Kaffer died 11 June of a heart attack at her home near Woody. She had been a sufferer of heart trouble for several years but that day seemed better than usual. She was 68 years of age. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at Mehl Funeral Home, Rev. William Boston conducting the service. A quartet, Mrs. Henry Borlin, Mrs. Harry Calvin, Thomas and Stephen Martin, sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “O, It Is Beautiful.” Mrs. Thomas Martin accompanied on the piano. Burial was in the Carrollton city cemetery. Casket bearers were nephews, John and Frank Kaffer, Gilbert K. and Julian Hutchens, Martin and Harry Borman. Flower girls were nieces, Mrs. Florence Pranger, Mrs. Walter Postlewait, Mrs. Lucius Wood, Mrs. Gilbert Hutchens, Mrs. Julian Hutchens and Mrs. Martin Borman. Mayme Jones Kaffer was a daughter of Frances M. and Zerilda Elliot Jones and was born in Linder Town in 1874. She and Martin Kaffer were married 9 oct 1894 and he and one daughter survive her. She also leaves three brothers, John and Robert H. Jones of Saskatchawan, Canada, Clarence Jones of Kampsville. Mrs. Kaffer became a member of the Brush College Baptist church early in life. Since her marriage she had lived on the farm near Woody. Friends and relatives from a distance here to attend the funeral were – rest of obit is missing.


KAFFER. 6 dec 1983: a graveside service for Flossie Kaffer, 92, was conducted 21 November at the Carrollton cemetery by the Rev. Peter Ely. She died at 12:10 pm 20 November at the Jerseyville care center where she resided. She was born 29 June 1891 in Carrollton to the late Avery and Emily Huff Dowdall and was a teacher. Her husband was the late John Kaffer. She is survived by a nephew, Jack Dowdall of Pompano Beach, Florida. And several cousins. Jacoby Brothers funeral home arrangements.


KALH. 08-08-1983, Shipman– Herman C. kalh, 87, died at 12:15 pm Sunday at his residence. Born in Shipman, son of the late Frederick and Sophia (Brockman) Kahl, he was a retired railroad worker and farmer. He was a World War I army veteran whose old uniform still fit as well as it did 66 years ago. He married the former Susan Eddington on 20 December 1919 in Brighton. She died 11 May 1980. Surviving are five daughters, Arlene Stampe of Shipman, Lucille Carr of Brighton, Alice Randolph of Shipman, Iola Prather of Medora and Wilma Cox of Plainview; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doras Bastian of Shipman. Visitation will be after 5 pm Tuesday at Jacoby-Wise Funeral Home in Shipman. Masonic services will be conducted at 8 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Wednesday with the Rev. Udell Meyers officiating. Burial will be in Shipman cemetery. Memorials may be made to Shipman Lion’s Club.


KAIN. Jerseyville – Robert Warren Kain, 38, was pronounced dead at 7:30 am Saturday 22 September 1990 following a one-vehicle automobile accident on Otterville road south of Route 16. Kain, a U.S. Army Vietnam war veteran, was a welder with a railway boxcar manufacturer. Born in Grafton, he was the son of Frank Kain of Jerseyville and the late Mabel (Rupke) Kain. In addition to his father, surviving are two daughters, Belinda and Amanda Kain, both of Grafton; three sisters, Ester Tompkins of St. Paul, mo., Salley Kain of Jerseyville and Joan Hopper of St. Louis; and three brothers, Frank Kain, Jr. of France, George Kain of Fort Worth, Texas, and Gene Kain of Alton. The body was cremated. A coroner’s inquest is pending. Jacoby-Schroeder funeral home of Jerseyville is in charge of arrangements.


KAISER. Dec. 1926: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Doenges went to St. Louis, called by death of former’s sister, Mrs. Emma Kaiser. She was the daughter of late Henry and Louisa Doenges of Jerseyville, and was born and reared here. Funeral in St. Louis.


KALLAL. Medora: Eugene C. Kallal, 78, died at 7:06 am Sunday 18 oct 1987 at Saint Anthony’s hospital in Alton. He was a farmer, born in Jersey county, son of the late Frank J. and Josephine (Tonsor) Kallal. On 9 November 1935 he married the former Anna Helen Collins in Jerseyville, and she survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Theresa Timpe of Irving, Illinois; two sons, Robert Kallal of Bethalto and Ronald Kallal of Medora; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister, Julianna Osterman of Carrollton; and three brothers, Vincent and Richard Kallal, both of Jerseyville, and Robert Kallal of Dow. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Paul, Theodore, Sylvester, Virgil, Francis and Aloys Kallal. Visitation is scheduled 5 to 9 pm Tuesday at Targhetta funeral home in Medora, where a rosary will be recited at 8 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am Wednesday at St. John’s Catholic church in Medora with the Rev. T. J. Davenport as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Francis cemetery in Jerseyville. Masses are preferred for memorials.


KALLAL. Jerseyville Republican 1 March 1919: Cecelia Mary Kallal, 12 years old, died at home of parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Kallal, 4 miles northwest of Jerseyville. Funeral held from church of Holy Ghost. Rev. E. Eckhard. Burial in St. Mary’s cemetery.


KALLAL. 9 March 1972: funeral mass for Theodore Herman Kallal, 56, of Sunmer was celebrated Monday morning at St. Francis Xavier church with Rev. R. T. Shea celebrant. His death occurred 3 March in Sunmer. Interment was in St. Mary’s cemetery. A World War II veteran, he was born 14 January 1916, a son of Frank J. and Josephine Tonsor Kallal of Jersey county. Mr. Kallal was a cattle herdsman. He is survived by a daughter, Patricia June, of Chicago; one sister, Mrs. Louis Ostermann of Carrollton; five brothers, Vincent and Richard Kallal of Jerseyville; Eugene Kallal and Paul Kallal of Medora and Robert Kallal of Dow. Visitation hours were held at Jacoby funeral home where the – rest of obit is missing.


KALLAL. October 1951: brief funeral services were held from Jacoby Brothers funeral home to St. Mary’s cemetery at eight-thirty o’clock Thursday morning, 4 October for Joseph Kallal, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kallal of Jerseyville, who died shortly after birth at St. Joseph’s hospital in Alton Tuesday, 2 Oct. Services were conducted by Father P. P. Heinen.


KALLAL. 9 May 1974: funeral mass for Mrs. Bernard J. (Pearl) Kallal of R.R. 4, Jerseyville was celebrated 4 May at 10 am at the Holy Ghost church in Jerseyville with the Rev. Robert L. Heintz celebrant. Her death occurred on 1 May at St. Joseph’s hospital in Alton. Interment was in St. Mary’s cemetery, Fieldon. She was born 13 May 1895 in Louisville, KY., a daughter of Walter and Rosa Neumeyer Crowder. Mrs. Kallal was a member of the Holy Ghost church and Altar Society, World War I Auxiliary, Homemakers Extension, Senior Citizens and was secretary of the Jersey county hia board. She is survived by her husband, Bernard J. Kallal, two daughters, Mrs. Milton (Virginia) Darr of R.R. 4, Jerseyville, and Mrs. Robert (Ramona) Boehler of Downers Grove; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Jesse Preston of Louisville, KY. Her parents and one brother preceded her in death. Visitation was held at Jacoby funeral home Friday evening, 3 May, where the rosary was recited. The family has designated St. Joseph’s hospital as a memorial.


KALLAL. 20 April 1988: Greenfield – Cletus “Pete” Kallal, 58, died at 12:30 pm Tuesday 19 April 1988, at St. John’s hospice in Springfield, following a lengthy illness. Kallal was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict, and was a machinist for Mobile Chemical in Jacksonville. Born in Jersey county, he was the son of the late Frances and Alice (Woolsey) Kallal. He married the Former Lois Woolsey 5 June 1955 and she survives. Also surviving are six daughters, Cheryl Dawson, Carla Clark and Carol Claybrook, all of Springfield, Cynthia Goodey of Jacksonville, Crystal Brockway of Kane and Randyraae Kallal at home; 15 grandchildren; four sisters, Marie Madson of Jerseyville, Marjorie Gehlhausen of Carrollton, Sharon Combs of Bluffs and Barbara Wintjen of Kane; and eight brothers, Frances Kallal of Calif., James, David, Jerry and Ed Kallal, all of Jerseyville, Donny and Sam Kallal, both of Kane, and Church Kallal of Wood River. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter. Visitation will be 4 pm Thurs. At Airsman-Hires funeral home in Carrollton. The Rev. William Hemnbrow will officiate. Cremation will follow with burial at a later date. Memorials may be given to St. John’s hospice in Springfield or the American Cancer Society. Family note: On Cletus Kallal’s obituary, Lois Woolsey should be Lois Woods. She is my mother.


KALLAL. Funeral mass for Mrs. Theresa B. Kallal, 89, of 607 West Pine, Jerseyville, was celebrated Tuesday morning at St. Francis Xavier church with Father R. T. Shea officiating. Her death occurred at 12:55 pm on 30 June at Blu Fountain Manor. Interment was in St. Francis Xavier cemetery. Visitation was held after 2:00 pm Monday at Jacoby Brothers funeral home where the rosary was recited that evening. She was born 11 September 1883 in Rock Creek, MO, Jefferson county, a daughter of Kasper V. and Barbara Ptacek Kroupa. Mrs. Kallal was a member of St. Francis Altar society and American Legion auxiliary. Her husband, Joseph V. Kallal, preceded her in death. She is survived by six Sons, Victor C. of Greenville, Joseph of San Demas, Calif., David of Camp Springs, MD, Leo J. of University City, Mo, Valentine and Albert, both of Jerseyville; five daughters, Mrs. Robert (Agnes) Quest of St. Louis, Mrs. Robert (Rosalie) Hays of San Francisco, Calif.; Mrs. James (Genevieve) Entwistle of University City, MO, Miss Ann L. Kallal, Oxen Hill, MD, and Mrs. Amos (Mary) Major of Jerseyville; 35 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren, two brothers, Kasper Kroupa of Troy, MO, and Frank Kroupa of Arnold, MO; and a sister, Mrs. Rose Svabada of St. Louis. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, S-sgt. Lawrence b. Kallal who was killed in action 1 October 1943; parents and two sisters.


KALLAL. Jerseyville Republican 7 January 1926: Raymond Kallal died 3 January at St. Anthony’s in St. Louis. 20 years old. Operated on for removal of tonsils and complications followed. Leaves father, Frank V.; brother, John F.; four sisters; Mrs. John Meuth of Jerseyville, Mrs. Edward Weithekamp of Raymond, Mrs. Nellie Campion and Mrs Edward Wentz of St. Louis. Funeral from Holy Ghost church. Rev. J.h. Gramke. Burial in St. Francis cemetery.


KALLAL. Medora: Ronald E. Kallal, 43, was pronounced dead at 11:25 am sun, 24 February 1991 in Jersey county following a four-wheel accident. He was engaged in farming. Born in Carrollton, he was the son of Helen (Collins) Kallal of Medora and the late Eugene Kallal. He married the former Rita Fite on 22 December 1988 in Carlinville, and she survives. In addition to his wife and mother, surviving are two daughters, Jennifer Kallal of Brighton and Amanda Kallal of Medora; a son, Christopher Kallal of Brighton; three step Daughters, Kris Mcmillian and Marci Welch, both of Bunker Hill and Jamie Powell of Edwardsville; three step Sons, Shawn Powell of Tampa, Fla., Chuck Powell of Brighton and Corey Powell of Medora; three grandchildren; a sister, Thersa Timpe of Irving; and a brother, Robert Kallal of Bethalto. Visitation is from 5 to 9 pm Wednesday at Targhetta funeral home in Medora, with a rosary recitation at 8:30 pm. A funeral mass is at 10:30 am Thursday at St. John’s Catholic church in Medora with the Revs. T.j. Davenport and John Sheahan as concelebrants. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to masses or to a fund for Jennifer and Christopher Kallal, in care of the funeral home.


KALLAL. Frank J. Kallal succumbed suddenly while assisting with work at son’s farm Monday. Frank J. Kallal, prominent retired farmer and livestock breeder of Jerseyville, died at eleven-thirty o’clock Monday morning, 17 March while assisting with some work at the farm of his son, Eugene Kallal in Ruyle township. Mr. Kallal had been under the care of a physician for a heart malady for some time but of late his condition appeared to be improved. The decedent was born in Jersey county on 20 January 1875, the son of Joseph and Mary Jilek Kallal and spent his entire life in Jersey county. In addition to his own farm interest, Mr. Kallal was prominently identified with boys and girls 4-club work in the county, and was the oldest club leader having served as a local leader for eighteen years. Mr. Kallal retired from active farm work in 1944, and with Mrs. Kallal moved to their present home in the northeast part of Jerseyville which they purchased. Since his retirement he had been interested in landscape work and flowers, particularly roses. In the brief time he had resided in Jerseyville, he had planted many varieties of roses at his home and there were many visitors attracted to the place last summer to see the unusual rose display. KALLAL. 10 April 1969: Requiem mass was celebrated at nine-thirty o’clock Monday morning at St. Francis Xavier church by father Francis Lee for Joseph V. Kallal, retired farmer of Jersey county, whose death occurred at one-fifty o’clock Thursday morning at St. Anthony hospital in Alton. Burial was in St. Francis cemetery. Visitation hours were held at Jacoby Brothers funeral home where the rosary was recited sun evening. The family designated the building fund at St. Francis Xavier church as a memorial for Mr. Kallal. Born in Jersey county, 9 March 1882, a son of the late Joseph and Mary Jilek Kallal, he had resided here during his entire lifetime. Mr. Kallal was prominent in farming circles as livestock breeder and grain farmer. Upon retirement a number of years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Kallal moved to Jerseyville where the family home is at 607 west pine Street. Mr. Kallal is survived by his wife, Mrs. Theresa Kroupa Kallal; six sons, Victor of Greenville, Joseph of West Covina, Calif., Leo of University City, MO, David of Washington, DC, and Albert and Valentine of Jerseyville; five daughters, Mrs. Agnes Quest and Mrs. Gene Entwistle of St. Louis, Miss Rosalee Kallal of San Francisco, Miss Ann Louise Kallal, Oxnard Hill, Maryland, and Mrs. A. R. (Mary) Major of Jerseyville; three brothers, Tony and William of Alberta, Canada, and Ben Kallal of Jerseyville; one sister, Mrs. Josephine Hanson of Carrollton; thirty-five grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren. One son, Staff Sergeant Lawrence b. Kallal, was killed in action, 1 October 1943. Two sisters also preceded him in death.

Daughter of John and Annie Neibaur Jilek and born at Florissant, MO on 9th of April 1854. Leaves 8 children and her husband. Frank J., Bernard J., William, Joseph V. of Jersey county; Charles and Anthony of Tofield, Alberta, Canada; Edwin R. of Edmunton, Canada, and Mrs. Josephine Henson of Carrollton. Three sisters and three brothers. Mrs. Josephine Kaupel of St. Louis, Mrs. Walter ?ope of Alton, Miss Christina Jilek, Frank, Edward and John Jilek of Jersey county. Funeral from St. Mary’s at Fieldon. Burial in St. Mary’s cemetery.


KALLAL. 1983: A funeral mass for Bernard Joseph “Ben” Kallal, 89, of R. 4, Jerseyville was celebrated Thursday morning at Holy Ghost church with Father William Hembrow as celebrant. His death occurred at 1:50 pm 17 January at Greenwood Manor nursing home. The retired farmer and World War I veteran was born 27 February 1893 in Jersey county, a son of Joseph and Mary Jilek Kallal. Kallal was a member of Holy Ghost church where he was a trustee for many years, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, American Legion and World War I barracks and Jersey farm bureau. He is survived by two daughters, Virginia Darrof Jerseyville and Ramona Boehler of Downers Grove; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. His wife, the former Pearl Crowder whom he married 4 November 1920, died 1 May 1974. He was also preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters. The rosary was recited at Jacoby Brothers funeral home followed by Fourth Degree Knights rites. Burial was in St. Mary’s cemetery, Fieldon. The Holy Ghost school was named as a memorial.


KALLAL. 25 March 1926: Joseph Kallal died at his home seven miles west of Jerseyville. St. Mary’s Church and cemetery. Grandchildren as pallbearers – Francis, Eugene, Sylvester, Joseph, and Victor Kallal, Barth, Francis and Edward Bauer. He was 80 years old. Born in Bohemia and came to U.S. in 1853 with parents, Frank and Francis Kazimon Kallal who settled in Jersey county. Married Mary Jilek. Eleven children, all of whom survive. Children are: Mrs. Mary Bauer, Mrs. Anthony Cabalek of Jerseyville, Mrs. Joseph Hanson of Carrollton, Frank J., Joseph V., Benjamin J., William J., all of Jerseyville; Edward, Charles, and Anton of Tofield, Alberta, Canada; John S. Kallal of Chesterfield, Illinois. Two sisters, Mrs. Anna Duban and Mrs. Mary Horst of St. Louis; two brothers, Frank V. and John C. of Jerseyville. His estate valued at $100,000. Upright, honest, many friends and admirers. He was known as Jersey county’s “grand old man.”


KALLAL. 1921: The funeral services for Thomas A. Kallal, aged 20 years and 7 months, who died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank V. Kallal two miles northwest of Jerseyville, Friday, at 1:30 pm will be held from the church of the Holy Ghost, Monday 27 February at 9:30 am. Solemn requiem mass will be celebrated, the Rev. Father John H. Gramke, celebrant; the Rev. Father E. J. Eckhard, deacon; and the Rev. Father Francis Shiels, sub-deacon. Interment will be in St. Francis cemetery. The remains may be seen at the home after 4 pm Saturday.


KALLAL. 22 May 1969: Mrs. Frank J. Kallal of 502 North Washington St., Jerseyville, died at one fifty-five o’clock Sunday afternoon at the Jersey Community Hospital where she had been a patient since May 7. Visitation hours were held at Jacoby Brothers funeral home where the rosary was recited at eight-fifteen o’clock Wednesday morning at the church of the Holy Ghost with Rev. Robert Heintz as celebrant. Burial was in St. Mary’s cemetery, Westwoods. Mrs. Kallal, a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Erik Tonsor, was born in Jersey county and had lived here all her life. At death she had attained the age of eighty-seven years, six months, and two days. Her husband, two sons, and three daughters preceded her in death. Surviving Mrs. Kallal are eight Sons, Sylvester, Vincent, Theodore, and Richard of Jerseyville, Eugene and Paul of Medora, Virgil of Carlinville, and Robert of Dow; one daughter, Mrs. Louis (Julianna) Ostermann of Carrollton; one brother, Tony Tonsor of Jerseyville; thirty nine grandchildren; seventy-one great grandchildren, and four great, great, grandchildren.

KALLAL. 13 September 1973: Joseph Benjamin Kallal, six month old son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis J. Kallal III, of Route one Fieldon, died at children’s hospital in St. Louis on 8 Sep. Mrs. Kallal is the former Roberta Delp. In addition to his parents survivors are his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis J. Kallal of Jerseyville and Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Delp of Fieldon, and great grandparents, Mrs. Alice Suhling, Mozier, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Delp, Jerseyville, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hayes, Godfrey.


KALLAL. 27 August 1970: Requiem mass for Sylvester Jacob Kallal, 62, of Jerseyville will be celebrated tomorrow morning (fri) at 9:30 o’clock at the church of the Holy Ghost with Rev. Robert Heintz, celebrant. His death occurred Tuesday evening at Jersey Community Hospital. He had been in ill health for some time. Interment will be in St. Mary’s cemetery. An employee of O.a. Smith Corporation, he was born 10 January 1908 in Jersey county, a son of the late Frank J. and Josephine Tonsor Kallal. His wife is the former Josephine Abeln Kallal. In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, Jacob (Jack) Kallal of Jerseyville; three daughters, Mrs. Edward (Arbedella) Whitehead, Mrs. Stanford (Jaonn) Springman, and Mrs. Duane (Nadine) Fink, all of Jerseyville; ten grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Louis (Julia Ann) Osterman of Carrollton; and six brothers, Eugene and Paul of Medora, Robert of Dow, Vincent, Richard, and Theodore of Jerseyville. His parents, four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Friends may call at Jacoby funeral home after 4 pm today (Thurs). The rosary will be recited at 8:15 this evening.


KALLAL. 02-09-1986: Jerseyville – Joseph “Danny” Kallal, 22, died at 4:45am today at Boyd Memorial Hospital, following a long illness. Born in Springfield, a son of David and Berniece (McDaniels) Kallal. Surviving in addition to his parents of Jerseyville are his maternal grandmother, Mildred McDaniels of Jerseyville; one brother, David W. Kallal of Jerseyville; and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 pm Wednesday at Jacoby Brothers funeral in Jerseyville, where services will be at 1 pm, Thursday with the Rev. James Pepper officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier cemetery and memorials may be given to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.


KALLAL. San Dimas, Calif. – Former Jerseyville resident Joseph Jacob Kallal, 81, died Saturday 20 June 1992 at Foothill Presbyterian Hospital in Glendora, Calif. He was born 13 April 1911 in Jersey county, son of the late Joseph and Theresa (Kroupa) Kallal. On 30 September 1935, he married the former Alberta Newdigate in Beardstown. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Michael Kallal of Laguna Niguel, Calif., four grandchildren; five brothers, Victor Kallal of Greenville, Albert Kallal of Carrollton, Leo Kallal of University City, MO; David Kallal of Dunkirk, MD; and Valentine Kallal of Jerseyville; and four Sisters, Rosa Lee Hays and Ann Kallal, both of Waldorf, MD, Genevieve Entwistle of University City and Mary Major of Jerseyville. Preceding him in death were a grandson; a brother, Lawrence Kallal; and a sister, Agnes Quest. A funeral mass was celebrated 23 June at St. Louise de Marillac Catholic church in Covina, Calif. Burial was in Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Rowland Heights, Calif. Custer-Christiansen Mortuary of Covina handled arrangements.

KANALLAKAN. 5 July 1977: Jimmie A. Kanallakan, 50, of R. 1, Godfrey, died at 8:05 pm Saturday 2 July at St. Anthony’s hospital in Alton. He had been in ill health for 10 years. Kanallakan worked in maintenance for the Alton Board of Education, retiring in 1974 due to his health, after 20 years service. He was born 5 August 1926 in Jerseyville, the son of Mrs. Reba Kanallakan of Jerseyville and the late Frank Kanallakan. He is survived by his widow, the former Mary Lou Healey whom he married 26 October 1946 in Jerseyville; three sons, Frank of Alton, Steve and Jamie, at home; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Linda) Blaine of Godfrey and Mrs. Ronald (Lavonne) King of Delhi and Melea Kanallakan, at home; five grandchildren; his mother; 1 brother, Roger Crone of Alton; and a sister, Mrs. Gladys Day of Godfrey. Visitation will be held after 4 pm Tuesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday at the Faith Comm. Church, Godfrey. The Rev. KANALLAKAN. 28 October 1965: Fred Kanallakan of Fieldon area died Wednesday: Fred A. Kanallakan, a farmer of Rosedale township was pronounced dead on arrival at the Jersey Community Hospital at 1:10 o’clock Wednesday morning where he was moved in the Jacoby ambulance. Mr. Kanallakan had been in ill health. The body is at Jacoby Brothers funeral home where visitation hours will be held after three o’clock this (Thurs) afternoon. The rosary will be recited this evening at 8 o’clock. Funeral services will be held Friday morning, 29 October at 9:30 o’clock at St. Mary’s Church, Westwoods, with Rev. Peter Klumbys celebrant of the requiem mass, and interment will be in St. Mary’s cemetery. Mr. Kanallakan was a son of the late Fred and Hannah Munsterman Kanallakan and was born in Jersey county on 2 March 1900. His age at the time of death was sixty-five years, seven months, and twenty-five days. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Stella Kanallakan of Route one, Fieldon; four Sons, Delbert of Fieldon, Eldon of Jerseyville, Darrel of Grafton and Anthony Joe of the U.S. Army at Forthood, Texas; three daughters, Mrs. Charles Helton of Eldred, Mrs. Junior Cory of Fieldon and Mrs. Dale Snider of Jerseyville; seventeen grandchildren; one brother, Charles Kanallakan of Jerseyville; and one sister, Mrs. Peter Drainer of Fieldon. His parents and three brothers, Frank, John and Guss, preceded him in death.


KANALLAKAN. (dates are missing from obituary): Judy Rebecca Kanallakan, 14 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Kanallakan of 2621 Walnut St., Alton, was pronounced dead on arrival at 11:40 am on 17 June at Alton memorial hospital after she was struck by a truck at College and Main Streets. She was the granddaughter of Mrs. Reba Kanallakan of Jerseyville. Judy had completed the 9th grade at East Junior High School. She was a first class Girl Scout and belonged to the Baptist youth fellowship at Cherry Street Baptist church. In addition to her parents she is survived by a brother, Carroll, at home; two sisters, Nancy Kanallakan, at home, and Mrs. Eugen (Jo Ellen) Hack of Alton. Her mother was the former Mary Scoggins. Services were conducted 19 June at the Cherry Street Baptist church with the Rev. Robert Bowling officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery, Jerseyville. KANALLAKAN. 22 January 1970: P. Kanallakan died following short illness: requiem mass for Paul Eldon Kanallakan, 39, of this city was celebrated Saturday morning at 9:30 o’clock at the church of the Holy Ghost, father Robert L. Heintz, celebrant. He died of cerebral hemorrhage at 10:45 o’clock Thursday evening at Jersey Community Hospital. His death was unexpected. Interment was in St. Francis Xavier cemetery. Mr. Kanallakan, who reportedly had not been feeling well Thursday, became quite ill that evening and was taken to the hospital where his death occurred an hour later. A mechanic at Striker-Chevrolet in Alton he was born 15 July 1930 in Jersey county the son of Charles and Elizabeth Downey Kanallakan. Mr. Kanallakan held membership in the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge, Jerseyville. His survivors are his wife, the former Carol Beiermann; three daughters, Cynthia Ann, Nina Beth and Cory Ann Kanallakan, all of Jerseyville; his parents; and one sister, Mrs. Kenneth E. Strebel of Jerseyville. Visitation hours were held at Jacoby Brothers funeral home.


KANALLAKAN. 9 August 1975: Funeral mass for Charles Kanallakan, 68, of 403 Maple Ave., Jerseyville was celebrated 7 Oct, at the Holy Ghost church with father Robert L. Heintz celebrant. He died at 11:55 am on 4 October at the Jersey Community Hospital. Interment was in the St. Francis Xavier cemetery. A retired farmer, he was born 7 August 1907 in Jersey county, a son of Fredrick and Johanna Munsterman Kanallakan. He was a member of the farm bureau, Holy Ghost Catholic church and Knights of Columbus. His survivors are his widow, Elizabeth Downey Kanallakan; one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Mary) Strebel of Jerseyville; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a sister, Mrs. Caroline Drainer of Jerseyville. His parents, one son and four brothers preceded him in death. The rosary was recited Monday evening at Jacoby funeral home. The family designated the Holy Ghost building fund as a memorial.


KANALLAKAN. 13 October 1988: William Kanallakan, 95, of Anaheim, Calif., formerly of Jersey and Calhoun counties, died 13 October 1988, in Anaheim hospital. Born in Jersey county, he was the son of the late Anton and Katherine Kanallakan. Surviving are a daughter, Virginia Jyorkes of Anaheim; two sons, William Kanallakan of Williams, Ariz., and Donald Kanallakan of Anaheim; three sisters, Sister M. Laurentine (Stella) Kanallakan of Alton, Josephine Beiermann of Jerseyville and Georgiana Wheaton of Fieldon. He was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Kanallakan; and four brothers, Tony, John, Meinard, and Edward Kanallakan. Services and burial were in Anaheim.


KANALLAKAN. 4 August 1966: William Frederick Kanallakan, fourteen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Kanallakan of Route one, Fieldon, was fatally injured Monday morning when a tractor he was riding overturned and pinned him beneath it. Young Kanallakan had been helping put up hay on the farm operated by his father and uncle, Tony J. Kanallakan. While the men were loading the hay, the youth started to his grandmother’s home to get a jug of water. The men became alarmed when the boy failed to return with the water and began looking for him. The overturned tractor with the youth pinioned by it was found just outside the field and around a bend in the road. The tractor was lifted from him and the youth was rushed to the Jersey Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Requiem mass was celebrated by monsignor Henry J. Knoedler of Hardin at St. Mary’s Church, Westwoods, at nine-thirty o’clock Wednesday morning. Burial was in St. Mary’s cemetery. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers funeral home where the rosary was recited on Tuesday evening. William Frederick was born in Carrollton, the son of Delbert F. and Grace J. Briggs Kanallakan, and his age at the time of death was fourteen years, nine months, and sixteen days. Surviving him in addition to his parents are three brothers and two sisters, David, Timmy, Jack, Susan, and Jill, all at home; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Fred Kanallakan of Fieldon and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Briggs of Jerseyville. The young lad would have been a sophomore student this fall at the Jersey Comm. High school where he was enrolled in the agriculture department. Kanallakan were held Nov. 3: funeral services were held Tuesday morning, 3 November at St. Mary’s Church, Westwoods, for John Henry Kanallakan, a farmer of the Fieldon vicinity whose death occurred at nine forty-five o’clock Thursday night at his home. Father Leonard Rathgeb officiated at the requiem mass and burial was in St. Mary’s cemetery. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers funeral home to pay their respect to the family of the decedent. Mr. Kanallakan was a life long resident of Jersey county. He was born 22 November 1893, a son of the late Fred and Hannah Munsterman Kanallakan, and his age at the time of death was sixty-five years, eleven months and seventeen days. Surviving the decedent are his wife, Mrs. Margaret Kanallakan; three daughters, Mrs. Edward Becker and Mrs. Richard Mossman of Fieldon and Mrs. Walter Mitchell of Tucson, Ariz; three sons, Laverne Kanallakan of Fieldon, Robert Kanallakan of Jerseyville and John Kanallakan of Elk Point, South Dakota; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Kanallakan of Jerseyville and Fred Kanallakan of Fieldon, and one sister, Mrs. P. F. Drainer of Jerseyville.


KANALLAKAN. Fieldon – Robert Louis Kanallakan, Sr., 70, died at 10:08 am Friday 5 May 1989, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. Born in Fieldon, he was a son of the late John and Margaret (Drainer) Kanallakan. He had been a truck driver for Laclede Steel in Alton and also was a farmer. On 4 July 1942, in Jerseyville, he married the Former Evelyn “Sis” Brannan, and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Joe Kanallakan and Robert Kanallakan, Jr., both of Jerseyville; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Anna Becker and Doris Mossman, both of Jerseyville and Marjorie Clinton of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Laverne Kanallakan of Jerseyville. A brother, John Kanallakan and a sister, Betty Kanallakan, preceded him in death. Visitation is 4-9 pm today at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville, where the Jerseyville Elk’s Lodge #954 will conduct a service at 4:30 pm. A rosary will be recited at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 am Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Fieldon. The Rev. William Hembrow is celebrant. Burial is in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church.


KANALLAKAN. Jerseyville Republican, January 1921: Minof Kanallakan, 90, died at home of his nephew, Frank Kanallakan, two and one half miles south of Jerseyville, Tuesday, 11 Jan. Funeral from Holy Ghost church. Rev. John Gramke. St. Mary’s cemetery.


KANALLAKAN. 17 January 1984: A funeral mass for Stella Kanallakan, 80, R.3, Jerseyville was celebrated Friday morning at the Holy Ghost church with father William Hembrow as celebrant. Burial was in St. Mary’s cemetery, Fieldon. She died at 5:40 p.m. 10 January at Jersey Community Hospital. She was born 18 May 1903 in Fieldon to the late John and Eliza Haller Isringhausen and was a member of the Holy Ghost church. She is survived by four sons, Delbert and Eldon of Jerseyville, Darrell of Grafton and Anthony of Eldred; two daughters, Norine Helton of Eldred and Pat Snider of Jerseyville; three sisters, Matilda Groppel of Jerseyville, Freda Morris and Tess Ashlock of Wood River; 24 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Her husband, Fred Kanallakan, died 27 October 1965. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, seven brothers and three sisters. The rosary was recited Thursday evening at Jacoby Brothers funeral home.


KANALLAKAN. 18 April 1974: Funeral mass for Mrs. Edna C. Kanallakan, 68, of R.R. 1, Jerseyville was celebrated Monday morning at the Holy Ghost church with the Father Robert L. Heintz celebrant. Her death occurred at 5:45 am on 12 April at Jersey Community Hospital. Interment was in St. Francis Xavier cemetery. She was born 11 April 1906 in Jerseyville, a daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Miller Breitweiser. She is survived by her husband, Ernest W. Kanallakan; two sisters, Miss Alma Breitweiser of Jerseyville and Mrs. Thomas (Katie) Harrison of Godfrey, and one brother, Wilbur Breitweiser of Alton. Her parents and four brothers preceded her in death. Visitation was held at Jacoby funeral home after 3 pm Sun. The rosary was recited at 8:00.


KANALLAKAN. May 1986: Margaret P. Kanallakan,89, of Jerseyville, died 27 April at Greenwood Manor nursing home. She was born 1 November 1896 in Jersey county to the late Peter Drainer and Anna Bunse. She married John Kanallakan on 8 November 1916 in Fieldon. He died 29 October 1959. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic church in Fieldon, St. Mary’s Altar Society, and Jerseyville Women of the Moose. Survivors include sons Laverne of Jerseyville and Robert of Fieldon; daughters Anna Becker of Fieldon, Marjorie Clinton of Tucson, Ariz., and Doris Mossman of Jerseyville; brother Chris Drainer of Jerseyville; sister Mary Duerr of Horseshoe Bend, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Visitation was 30 April at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. The funeral mass was 1 May at St. Mary’s Church with the Rev. Gerald Bunse and Monsignor P. P. Heinen as concelebrants. Burial was in St. Mary’s cemetery. The memorial is the donor’s choice.


KANALLAKAN. 27 June 1983: John “Bookes” Kanallakan, 61, of 265 South Sycamore, Hinckley, Ill., died at 11:53 pm Saturday at Mercy Center in Aurora. He was a machinist and a World War II veteran. Born in Fieldon, son of Margaret (Drainer) Kanallakan of Jerseyville and the late John Kanallakan, he married Merlene Goulde on 18 January 1964. Surviving are his wife and mother; a son, Keith of Hinckley; a stepson, David Falk of Perre, S.D.; a grandchild; two brothers, Lavern of Jerseyville and Robert of Fieldon; and three sisters, Anna i Ariz. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 pm Wednesday at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. A rosary will be recited at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Fieldon with the Rev. Wil – rest of obit is missing.


KANE. no dates found: Mrs. Bridget Kane, resident of Delhi for 50 years, died yesterday after brief illness. Leaves four children – Mrs. Maggie Hanley, Bridget Jennings, Frank and Michael Kane. Services at Saints Peter and Paul’s church. Burial in Greenwood cemetery, Alton.


KANE. 1938: Shirley Jean Kane burned to death at Decatur, Thursday: Shirley Jean Kane, aged 3 1/2 years, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Kane of Decatur, was burned to death last Thursday while at play with children in the home of a neighbor. The children said she was playing with papers and held them over a lighted gas jet, the flames spreading to her clothing. By the time the child’s mother could reach her and smother the flames, her entire body was badly burned. The accident happened about two in the afternoon and the child lived until nine o’clock that night. Funeral services were held in Decatur Saturday and relatives from here attending were Mr. and Mrs. Stevens, Mr. and Mrs. Rupert (unreadable), Mr. and Mrs. Mark Kane, and Mrs. Felter Stevens, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Stevens and Mr. and Mrs. Henry L. Stevens. The child’s mother was formerly Miss Alfreda Stevens of Kane. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Stevens of Kane and Mrs. Nora Kane of Carrollton. The child was born 13 May 1935 in Kane.


KANLLAKAN. Jerseyville – Ernest W. kanllakan, 77, died at 3 pm Saturday 29 March 1986, at Greenwood Manor in Jerseyville. Born in Jersey county, he was a son of the late Frank and Wilhelmina (Middendorf) Kanllakan, and was a retired farmer. His wife, the Former Edna Breitweiser, died 12 April 1974. Survivors include two Sisters, Gertrude Lynn of Jerseyville and Helen Leigh of Alton; and one brother, Francis R. Kanllakan of Chesterfield. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 pm today at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. A prayer service will be said at 7:30 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am Tuesday at Holy Ghost – rest of obituary missing.


KAPPEL. Jerseyville Republican, January 1918: Miss Esther Kappel, aged 19 years, died Saturday evening at the home of her brother, Lester Kappel, in the east part of Jerseyville. Miss Kappel was an employee at the shoe factory until illness caused her to resign. The funeral was held Tuesday morning at 9:00 o’clock from St. Francis Xavier’s church, Rev. Father J. J. Clancy officiating. Interment was in St. Francis cemetery.

KAPPLER. 23 April 1964: Henry J. Kappler died unexpectedly Saturday morning …. Henry Joseph Kappler, retired farmer, died unexpectedly at his home, 1116 North Sumner Street, Jerseyville, early Saturday morning. He had not complained of illness and his death came as a shock to his family and friends. Rev. Henry O. Renken officiated at funeral services which were held at two o’clock Monday afternoon at the Jacoby Brothers funeral home. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr. Kappler, son of the late Eugene and Elizabeth Appleman Kappler, was born in Evansville, Indiana, 17 August 1881. He engaged in farming for many years, and for the past five years he has lived in Jerseyville. Mr. Kappler is survived by his Wife, Lilly Marie Groppel Kappler; three sons, Eugene of Bethalto, and Louis and Edwin of Jerseyville; two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Scarber of Moores Hill, Indiana, and Mrs. Ruth Phipps of Godfrey; twenty-one grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.


KAPPLER. Democrat News, August 1982: Mrs. Mary E. Kappler, 65, of 607 E. Arch, wife of Rev. Louis Kappler of Jerseyville, died unexpectedly at 7:13 pm 4 August at Jersey Community Hospital from an apparent heart attack. She was born 31 March 1917 in Hollywood, MO; a daughter of the Late Roy and Nannie Lawson White. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Robert of Pine Bluff, Ark., and David Kappler who is serving with the U.S. Air Force in South Korea; seven daughters, Edith Lester, Grafton; Ester Evans, Violet Clendenny and Ruth Ann Mcclintock of Jerseyville; Pearl Ross, Carrollton, Darlene Miller, Fieldon, and Carolyn Plummer, Quincy; 16 grandchildren, two great grandchildren; half brother, George White of Jerseyville. Funeral from Gospel Assembly Church. Rev. Clyde Shaw officiating. Burial in Oak Grove cemetery.


KAPPLER. 29 June 1972: Edwin Kappler died Thursday unexpectedly…..final services for Edwin Russell Kappler, 57, of Jerseyville were held Sunday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers funeral home with Rev. William Smith officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr. Kappler, who was a sheet metal worker, became ill while riding home from his work south of Jerseyville with a fellow employee Thursday. They stopped at a service station to summon an ambulance. Mr. Kappler was pronounced dead on arrival at 6:30 pm at Alton memorial hospital. A World War II veteran, he was born 2 June 1915 in Jersey county, a son of Henry and Lillie Groppel Kappler. Mr. Kappler was a member of the Jerseyville American Legion and V.F.W. posts, Elks Lodge, Eagles Lodge and was Chef-de-garre of 40 & 8 Voiture. His survivors are two brothers, Eugene A. Kappler of Bethalto and Rev. Louis E. Kappler of Jerseyville; and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Scarber of Indiana and Mrs. William (Ruth) Phipps of Godfrey. Visitation was held at Jacoby funeral home after 4:00 pm Sat. Services were in charge of Worthey Post American Legion and V.F.W.


KAPPLER. 7 February 1980: services for Mary Janet Kappler, 64, of 410 Dorothy Street, Jerseyville will be conducted at 3 pm Saturday at Jacoby Brothers funeral home by the Rev.R. E. George with burial in Oak Grove cemetery. She was pronounced dead on arrival at 11:30 pm 6 February at Jersey Community Hospital. Born in Pike county 30 July 1915, she was a daughter of Charles and Annie Roberts Gorman. She is survived by one daughter, Annie Skinner of Jerseyville; a brother, Charles Gorman of Alton; a stepbrother, Leo Foster, Granite City; one sister, Jean Tilley, Gillespie; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a Sister, Alice Wahl. Visitation from 4 to 9 pm Friday at Jacoby Brothers funeral home.


KAPPLER. 14 October 1971: Set Kappler final rites for Friday: Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Marie Kappler, 84 year old Jerseyville resident, have been set for Friday afternoon, 15 October at 1:30 o’clock at Jacoby Brothers funeral home. Mrs. Kappler was a member of the United Church of Christ and Rev. Leonard Tood of Midway, formerly of Jersey county, and Rev. Wm. H. Smith, pastor of Peace United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home after 3 pm today (Thurs). The death of Mrs. Kappler, who resided at 1120 N. Sumner Street, occurred at the Jersey Community Hospital Wednesday morning, 13 October at 5:40 o’clock. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Magdalene Egelhoff Groppel and was born in Jersey county 16 September 1887. Surviving Mrs. Kappler are two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Scarber of Moorse Hill, Indiana, and Mrs. William Phipps of Godfrey; three sons, Eugene A. Kappler of Bethalto and Rev. Louis E. Kappler and Edwin R. Kappler of Jerseyville and Theodore Groppel of Clearwater, Florida; and one sister, Mrs. Anthony Schmittag of Jerseyville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Kappler, one son, George, and a daughter, Helen.


KARR. Kane – Grace Elizabeth Karr, 77, formerly of Jersey county, died at 10 pm Wednesday 8 August 1990 at Jerseyville care center. She retired in1974 as a crane operator from Laclede Steel of Alton. Born in Otterville, she was the daughter of the late William and Anna (Groppel) Egelhoff. On 7 April 1939, in St. Louis she married harry Karr. Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Grace Gettings of Jerseyville and Carol Swonger of Shelbina, MO; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren two brothers, Henry and Clarence Egelhoff, both of Jerseyville; and three sisters, Bertha Willman of Otterville, Matilda Lawrence of Jerseyville and Freda Cray of Marithon, Florida. Preceding her in death were a grandson; a sister, Edna Sauerwein; and three brothers, Edward, Walter and Leo Egelhoff. Visitation is from 4 to 8 pm Friday at Jacoby-Schroeder funeral home in Jerseyville. Graveside services are at 9 am Saturday at noble cemetery in Otterville. The Rev. Jean Erb will officiate. Memorials may be given to a charity of one’s choice.


KARRICK. Dow – Myrtle H. Karrick, 73, died at 7:30 am Thurs, 7 September 1989 at Alton memorial hospital. Born in Carlinville, her parents were the late Henry and Clara (Rhodes) Behme. She married Everett W. Karrick on 11 June 1935 in Carlinville, and he survives. Also surviving are three Daughters, Gladys Storey of Jerseyville, Helen Blackwell of Dow and Dian Butler of Vandalia; a son, Stanley Karrick of Dow; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; six Sisters, Lena Robinson, Iva Loveless, Verna Knudson and Irene Peacock, all of Carlinville, Stella Coffey of Sparta and Esther Fagerburg of Bloomington; and four Brothers, Henry, Erwin and Carl Behme, all of Carlinville, and Floyd Behme of Raymond. Visitation is 4-9 pm Saturday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rites will be conducted at 7 pm by the Grafton order of the Eastern Star Lodge 318. At 7:30 pm, rites will be performed by Jerseyville Ruby Rebekah Lodge 263. Visitation continues 1:30 pm Sun. until service time at 2:30 pm at the First Presbyterian church in Jerseyville. The Rev. KARRICK. News Journal, August 1985: Rhoda Elizabeth Karrick, 91, of Dow, died 3 September at Jersey care center, where she had been a resident for some time. She was born 18 February 1894 in Randall, Kan., the daughter of John Henry and Emma Privet Wiser. She married Luther Karrick 8 June 1911 and he preceded her in death. Survivors include sons Everett Karrick of Dow, Raymond Karrick of Sorrento and Robert Karrick of Redlands, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and 12 great great grandchildren; sisters, Laura Woods of Alton and Eva Schofield of Nebo. Funeral services were held at 1 pm 7 September at the Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville with the Rev. Simon A. Simon of the United Presbyterian church officiating. Burial was at the Newbern cemetery. The Arthritis Foundation has been named as a memorial.


KARRICK. Dow – Everett W. Karrick, 76, died unexpectedly at 12:15 pm Monday, 29 October 1990 at home. Karrick was a farmer and a member of Grafton order of Eastern Star Lodge 318. He was born in Carlinville, son of the late Luther and Rhoda Elizabeth (Wiser) Karrick. On 11 June 1935 in Carlinville, he married the former Myrtle H. Behme. She died on 7 September 1989. Surviving are three Daughters, Gladys Storey of Fieldon, Helen Blackwell of Dow and Dian Butler of Vandalia; a son, Stanley Karrick of Dow; 17 grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Karrick of Sorento and Robert Karrick of Mount Olive. A brother, Ralph Karrick preceded him in death. Visitation is from 4 to 9 pm Wednesday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with rites at 7 pm by Grafton Masonic Lodge 341. Visitation continues from 10 am Thursday until service time at 11 am at the First United Presbyterian church of Jerseyville. The Rev. Simon A. Simon will officiate. Burial is in Newbern cemetery. Memorials may be given to Grafton Masonic Lodge 341. A coroner’s inquest is pending.


KASLICK. Jerseyville Republican, 15 October 1903: Mrs. Cora Belle Kaslick died at home in Grafton, 10 October 1903. Cora Belle Duncan was born at Rosedale, 18 January 1880. Married Roy Kaslick 2 July 1901. Methodist church. Funeral from Hartford church by Rev. S. Thero.


KASLICK. Jerseyville Republican, 7 December 1922: John Kaslick died at home of daughter, Mrs. John Frieman in Grafton. 81 years old. Funeral from Hartford Methodist church, Rev. George Dunn of Jerseyville. Death of Kaslick marks the departure of another veteran of the great civil war. He saw service through the conflict in question and was engaged in some of the biggest battles of the war. Son of Nicholas and Magdalena Kaslick, born in Williams Hollow. In 1873 married Drucilla Journey – four children, three of whom died in infancy. Roy Kaslick, the surviving one, lives in Albuquerque, NM. Mrs. Drucilla Kaslick died 23 September 1881. In 1885, he married Elizabeth Williams (nee Watson) and to this union were born five children, one of whom died in infancy. Leaves wife, Elizabeth, sons, Clark and Daniel of Grafton, Two Daughters, Magdalena Freiman of Grafton and Nellie Reardon of Pekin, Illinois. He was kind hearted, good citizen and neighbor.


KASLICK. 3 October 1974: Mrs. Bessie Kaslick of Fieldon died at 2:30 pm 28 September at Jersey Community Hospital. Her age at the time of death was 86 years, 10 months and 20 days. Mrs. Kaslick was born in Jersey county the daughter of James and Ellen Green Wedding. She was married to Clark Kaslick. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Carl (Thelma) Narup of Shipman and one granddaughter, Mrs. Wayne (Phyllis) Rowling of Grafton, four great-grandchildren and one brother, Richard Wedding of Portland, Ore. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Grafton at 1:30 pm 1 Oct, the Rev. James Rhea officiating. Burial was at Hartford cemetery. Mrs. Kaslick was a member of the Rosedale Methodist church.


KASLICK. Jersey County Democrat 13 January 1916: Nicholas Kaslick died at home in St. Louis 7 Jan. Brought to Grafton for burial in Hartford cemetery. Funeral at Hartford church, Rev. M. Jackson. Leaves six daughters, Misses Katherine, Edith and Floy of St. Louis, Mrs. P. P. Miller of Pekin, Ill., Mrs. H. E. Donaldson and Mrs. Wm. Kenney of Cheyenne, WY. And two sons, William and Arthur of St. Louis.


KAUP. Jerseyville Republican, September 1917: Mrs. Anna Marie Kaup born in Anover, Germany in 1830 where she lived with her four sisters and five brothers until 1850. At age 20 she came to America with her brother, Joseph Kohlester, and lived in St. Louis until she became the wife of Charles Kaup, two years later. They came to their home several miles south east of Jerseyville where their two daughters and one son were born. Shortly after the death of Mr. Kaup 25 years ago Mrs. Kaup and daughter, Mrs. Dorsett, moved to the present home where Mrs. Kaup died 26 aug. Leaves one sister, Mrs. Timmemeyer of Wichita, Kans., two daughters, Mrs. Herman Kippald of Carlinville and Mrs. Dorsett of Jerseyville; one son, Mr. George Kaup; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren. 87 years old. Holy Ghost church, St. Francis cemetery.
