FLAHERTY. John Flaherty, 56, died at his home 2 miles north of Jerseyville. Funeral from St. Francis church.
FLAHERTY. Bridget Flaherty, 83, died at the home of a daughter in Medora. Who was well known throughout the area as a practical nurse. She was born February 6, 1840 in Ireland and came to this country when she was 16. She leaves 8 children; Mrs. Hanna Brueggman of Alton, Mrs. Mary wood of Bunker Hill, Mrs. Lizzie Wood of Ozarks, MO, Miss Kae Flaherty of East St. Louis, Mrs. Margie Redmond, of Medora, John Flaherty of East Alton and Mark Flaherty of Rock Island. Mass held in Medora, burial in Brighton. 22 of her 23 grandchildren were present.
FLAHERTY. Celia Flaherty (Mrs. John), died at Cleveland, OH. She was a former resident of Jerseyville and the funeral was from Holy Ghost church with Fr. Marks presiding.
FLAMM. Mary Margaret Flamm, 84 years, 4 months, 19 days, of Jerseyville died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, August 13, at the home of her daughter & son-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Paul Fiedler in Batchtown, where she had spent the past 3 weeks. She had been in failing health for some time. Mrs. Flamm was a daughter of the late Michael & Mary (Cohen) Eageny, and was born in Franklin Furnace, NJ, March 24, 1866. The deceased was the widow of Charles Flamm. Surviving are 3 daughters, Mrs. Lynn J. Miller and Mrs. Helen Palmer of Jerseyville and Mrs. Paul Fiedler of Batchtown; 2 sons, James A. Flamm of Jerseyville and Joseph Flamm of Springfield; 5 grandchildren; 1 g-granddaughter; 2 sisters, Mrs. Catherine Grigsby and Mrs. Nellie Fuller of Alton. The body was brought to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Miller where friends called. Services were held at Holy Ghost on August 16. Rev. Fr. C. R. Horn of Dalton City officiating. Burial was in St. Francis cemetery.
FLAMM. John William Flamm, 57, of Delmar, Godfrey, died at John Cochran veterans hospital, St. Louis. Funeral mass was held at St. Patrick church, Grafton with Rev. Patrick Morrow, celebrant. Interment was in St. Francis cemetery, Jerseyville. A WWII veteran, he was born January 10, 1919 in Jerseyville, a son of John F. & Catherine (Murphy) Flamm. He owned and operated a barber shop in Grafton for a number of years and had barbered in N. Alton. Surviving are his widow, Lucille M. (Bowen) Flamm, whom he married in March 1942; 2 daughters, Mrs. Dale (Joyce) Harmon, Grafton, and Mrs. Dennis (Pam) Maxeiner, Godfrey; 2 sons, Lonnie Flamm and John W. Flamm III, Godfrey; 2 grandchildren; 1 brother, Robert Flamm; and 4 sisters, Mrs. Frank (Margaret) Stites, Alton, Mrs. Teresa Sears and Mrs. Cleve (Minnie) Timpe, Jerseyville and Mr. S. William (Agnes) Harmon, Kane. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society.
FLAMM. Carl William Flamm, 76, of Jerseyville, died June 14, at Jersey Community hospital. Services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. He was born on September 25, 1898 in Batchtown, a son of Harry & Nettie (Simpson) Flamm and had been a forestry foreman at Illinois Power Co. Surviving are his widow, Mae (Angelo) (Walton) Flamm; 1 son, William of Grafton; 1 daughter, Mrs. Margie Meuth of Jerseyville and several grand children. Flamm was a member of Moose Lodge and International Brotherhood of Electric Workers. His first wife, Florence (Cory) Flamm, died in 1965, his parents, 2 sisters, and 2 brothers preceded him in death.
FLAMM. John Flamm, 59, was born in Metzingen Konegreich, Wuttenburg, Germany, April 13, 1832 and died in Jerseyville. Funeral from church of Holy Ghost with Rev. Marks. Mr. Flamm came to Jersey in 1853 and worked at harvesting for Mr. G. Berkenmeyer and then worked at the cooper trade with L. C. Thus(r?)ton. In 1854 he worked for Frederick Bertman, October 4, 1855, he married Gertrude (Godtten), a sister of Mr. Bertman’s wife. He opened a clothing shop, then a saloon with C. Oehmsteadt. In 1866 went into business with R. Hund and opened a saloon in the basement of the Villinger building. Later went into business with C. Poettgen in the Goecke building. He entered the army as a musician in the 6th Missouri Infantry, August 22, 1861 and was discharged May 12, 1862. He then joined Lowe Post, GAR on May 23, 1884.
FLAMM. Florence Marie Flamm, 58, wife of Carl Flamm of RR 2, Jerseyville, suffered a fatal heart attack September 30 as she was preparing the evening meal at her home. Her death came as a great shock to her family and friends. She had worked that day at the music shop where she was employed as a clerk. A lifelong Jersey County resident she was born August 4, 1907, in Jerseyville, the daughter of Lester J. Cory & the late Mae (Post) Cory. She was a member of the Moose Auxiliary and was a past state President of the Demolay Mothers. Her only brother, John Cory of Jerseyville, died suddenly less than 3 months ago, and her mother also preceded her in death. Surviving are her husband, 1 daughter, Mrs. Paul Meuth of Kane, 1 son, William L. Flamm of O’fallon, 10 grandchildren; her father, Lester J. Cory of Jerseyville and 1 sister, Mrs. Marian Armentrout of Hayward, CA. Funeral services were October 3, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Fr. P. P. Heinen officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.
FLAMM. Mrs Gertrude Flamm, 85, died recently. Funeral services were held from Holy Ghost church, Rev. E. Echard officiating. Surviving are 1 daughter, Minnie Steckel of Jerseyville; 5 sons, John, Harry, Louis of Jerseyville, Charles of Alton and William of St. Louis, MO.
FLAMM. John F. a Flamm, 62, lifelong resident of Jersey County, died July 27. His wife preceded him in death on March 15, 1925. Surviving are Miss Mary and Agness Flamm, Mrs. Mary Sears, Minnie Henson, Leo Francis, John Ward and Robert Charles Flamm all of Jerseyville, 1 sister, Wilhelmina Steckel; and 4 brothers, Charles, Harry and Louis of Jerseyville and Wm. A. of St. Louis.
FLAMM. Miss Myrtle Luella Flamm 55 years, 3 months, 5 days, of RR 2, Fieldon, Thursday pm at Bethesda hospital in St. Louis. Funeral services were held November 24, at Holy Ghost church with requiem mass celebrated by Fr. Paul P. Heinen and burial was in St. Francis cemetery. Miss Flamm was born in Batchtown, August 15, 1903, a daughter of the late Harry Flamm and Nettie (Simpson) Flamm. She had been in ill health for several months. Surviving are 2 sisters, Mrs. Thomas L. (Inez) Gaffney of Medora, and 2 brothers, J. Elston and Carl W. Flamm, both of Jerseyville.
FLAMM. John Elson Flamm, 71 years, 10 months, 24 days, a retired farmer and WWI veteran, died Monday evening at Jersey Community hospital. Requiem mass was celebrated at Holy Ghost church. Rev. Fr. Robert L. Heintz officiated and burial was in St. Francis cemetery. Visitation and rosary were Wednesday evening at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Mr. Flamm had resided with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Carl W. Flamm of Route 2 Jerseyville. He was born in Batchtown, March 16, 1897, a son of the late Harry & Nettie (Simpson) Flamm. He had made his home in Jersey County for 59 years and was a member of Holy Ghost church, Jerseyville KC, Worthey Post, American Legion, and Eagles Lodge. Surviving are Mr. & Mrs. Flamm, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Paul and 2 sisters, Mrs. Thomas (Inez) Gaffney and Luella Flamm.

FLANAGAN. Mary Flanagan, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. T. J. Sullivan, 502 State St. Rev. B. Lee presided over a short service held from the home. Her body was taken to St. Louis for burial in Calvary cemetery. She was the mother of the late Rev. J. J. Flanaghan and sister Estella Teresa of Sisters of St. Joseph. Her husband preceded her in death.
FLANAGAN. Mary Flanagan, was the wife of Edward Flanagan and mother of Kittie, Rose, Edward, J. A, Agnes, Mrs. Wm. Ryan and Mrs. August Schneider. Funeral from family home in St. Louis and St. Agnes church. Burial in Calvary cemetery.
FLANDERS. Edna May Flanders, 46, wife of Delbert H. Flanders, died August 13 in St. Louis. She was a daughter of Eli Walker. She was born and reared in Jerseyville. She leaves her husband and 2 sons, Charles and Delbert Jr. Funeral from of her sister Mrs. Fred Seehausen. Rev. Farrill officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.
FLANIGAN. Ellen Flanigan, 66, wife of Patrick Flanigan, former Jersey County residents, died at her home in Waverly on April 19. Funeral at Waverly. She leaves her husband and 4 children; 2 daughters, Mrs. Michael Duggan of Otterville, and Nellie Flanigan of Waverly; 2 sons, Thomas Flanigan of Pekin, IL, and Michael Flanigan of Jacksonville, IL. 2 sons and 2 daughters, preceded her in death. Her maiden name was Ellen Jennings and she was born and reared in Ireland. She married Patrick Flanigan there and emigrated to the US and located on a farm in Jersey County about 1860. Her husband’s occupation was farming.
FLATT. Earl Eugene Flatt, 63, died January 16, 1991, at Passavant area hospital, Jacksonville. He was a US Army Korean war veteran and received 2 bronze stars and a personalized letter from President Harry Truman. He retired in 1985 as a machinist from Shell Oil Co. after 29 years of service and was a member of the Jerseyville Sport Flyers Aviation Club. Born in Carrollton, he was the son of the late Frank & Rosa (Chapman) Flatt. He Married Bette Kathleen (Davis) Flatt on January 27, 1952, in Carrollton, and she died on October 4, 1989. Surviving are 1 son, Floyd Eugene “Gene” Flatt of Jerseyville; 2 Daughters, Barbara Hartung of St. Louis and Kathleen Zipprich of Jacksonville; 7 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Donald Flatt of S. Roxana and Larry Flatt of Carrollton; and 1 sister, Audra Price of Carrollton. Visitation was held at Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at Hope Lutheran church, Jerseyville, with Rev. Mark Etter officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church, where he was a member.
FLATT. Wilton L. Flatt, died Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clara Russell, in this city. Services were held Saturday at Mehl Funeral Home. Dr. John W. crouch, pastor of the Baptist church, officiated. Everett Mehl was soloist and his selections Were; “In a Garden of Prayer” and “Safe in the Arms of Jesus” pallbearers were Guy Fox, George Clark, Dean Bushnell, and Ben Black of Eldred, and Ed Seger and Arch Howard of Carrollton. Flower bearers were Mrs. Ruby King, Mrs. Matt Sanford, Mrs. Dennis Lemon and Mrs. John Debolt. Burial was in Carrollton cemetery. Mr. Flatt was born in Hamilton County, November 22, 1858, the son of Aaron & Nancy Flatt. He married Adeline (Bushnell) Flatt in 1881. They lived in Eldred and vicinity until coming to Carrollton about 6 years ago to make their home with their daughter, Mrs. Rssell. Mr. Flatt is survived by his wife and 1 daughter; also 1 grandson, Capt Leon Flatt and 1 g-granddaughter, the daughter of Captain & Mrs. Flatt, born on November 22, the deceased Mr. Flatt’s birth date.
FLATT. Ella Flatt, 84, wife of George Flatt, died Saturday in Boyd Memorial hospital. She and her husband, former residents of Eldred, had been making their home with their son, Roy, in Jerseyville. In addition to her husband and son, Roy, she is survived by 2 other Sons, Orson of Houston, MN, and Frank of Eldred, and by 2 daughters, Mrs. Thomas Brant, of Carrollton and Miss Lucy Flatt of Chicago, and a sister, Mrs. Thomas Liles of Rockford. Funeral services were held by Rev. Robert Wagener at Simpson Funeral Home. Interment was in Carrollton city cemetery. Pallbearers were Zoda Richter, Clarence Ligon, William Flatt, Harold Flatt, Robert Portwood and Jacob Clafflin.
FLATT. Eva Irene Flatt, 74, of Kampsville died July 6, at Passavant hospital, Jacksonville. Born in Greene County, February 27, 1907, she was a daughter of Wade & Nellie (Badman) Reynolds. Her survivors are her husband, Raymond Jennings Flatt; 1 son, James T. Flatt, of Conway, MI; 4 daughters, Alma Schaaf and Mildred Galore of Fieldon, Florence Halemeyer of Hardin and Lilly Honey of Eldred; 1 granddaughter, Helen Learnard of Springfield who was reared in the home; 21 grandchildren; 20 g-grandchildren; step Mother, Ione Reynolds of Jerseyville; 5 half-brothers, 5 half sisters, a stepbrother, and 2 stepsisters.
FLATT. Raymond J. Flatt, 81, of Kampsville died at his residence of July 12, 6 days after the death of his wife, Irene (Reynolds) Flatt who died July 6 at Pssavant hospital in Jacksonville. Services were conducted Tuesday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton with Rev. Jon Lobos officiating. Burial was in Richwoods cemetery west of Carrollton. The retired farmer was born in Greene County September 6, 1899, a son of Ernest & Bessie (Hermans) Flatt. His survivors are 4 daughters, Alma Schaaf and Mildred Galore of Fieldon, Florence Halemeyer of Hardin and Lilly Honey of Eldred; 1 granddaughter, reared in his home, Helen Leanard of Springfield; 1 son James of Conway, MI; 21 grandchildren; 20 g-grandchildren; 1 sister, Dorothy Day of Eldred; 1 brother, Paul Flatt of Carrollton. 1 sister and 1 grandson also preceded him in death. Memorials may be given to the heart fund or a charity of one’s choice.
FLATT. Claud E. Flatt Sr., 87, a former White Hall resident, died February 6, at Veterans hospital in Quincy. He had been a resident there for several years. Services were held at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Burial was in Richwoods cemetery west of Carrollton. The WWI veteran was born in Greene County, a son of John & Edna (Camerer) Flatt. Surviving are 2 sons, Claude Jr. of Jacksonville and Harry of Cincinnati, OH; and 1 sister, Mildred Prill of Jerseyville; nieces and nephews. His parents, an infant son, 2 sisters and 1 brother, preceded him in death.
FLATT. Roy Flatt, 80, of hazel St. Jerseyville, formerly of Eldred unexpectedly at his home on May 4. Services were conducted at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton by Rev. Orlan Lane of Jerseyville. Burial was in Memorial Gardens, Eldred. The retired farmer was born November 28, 1900 in Eldred, a son of George & Ella (Logan) Flatt and married Cora A. (Booth) Flatt in 1926. She survives. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter who died in infancy, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Memorials may be given to Gospel Assembly church of Jerseyville where he was a member.
FLAUTT. Hazel Irene Flautt, 77, of Jerseyville, died September 8 at Garnet’s Chateau. Services were held September 10 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Eerett Chambers officiated and burial was in Noble cemetery near Otterville. Born June 28, 1900 in Jersey County, she was a daughter of James a & Mary E. (Demming) Flautt. She is survived by 1 nephew, Leslie L. Flautt of Jerseyville.
FLAUTT. James Lee Flautt, 75 years, 6 months, of Oak Park died Friday am at West Suburban hospital following an extended period of failing health. His death occurred as arrangements were underway to bring him to Blu Fountain Manor near Godfrey. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. M. Edwards Breed, pastor of First United Presbyterian church of Jerseyville, officiated and burial was in Noble cemetery at Otterville. Mr. Flautt, a son of the late Dr. James a & Mary Elizabeth (Demming) Flautt, was born in Otterville. The former Jersey County resident was a veteran of WWI and was a retired passenger agent for the Southern Railroad. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and of Grace Episcopal church in Oak Park. Surviving are 1 brother, John G. Flautt; 1 sister, Miss Hazel I Flautt, and 1 nephew, Leslie Lee Flautt, all of Jerseyville. His parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters preceded him in death.
FLAUTT. John G. Flautt, 73, of State St. Jerseyville, president emeritus of Jersey State Bank, died on February 22, at North Beach hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Mr. & Mrs. Flautt had been at their winter home in Florida since October. Funeral services were held Monday February 25, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. M. Edwards Breed officiated and interment was in Noble cemetery. He was born March 18, 1901 in Otterville, the son of James A. Flaut, M. D. & Mary Elizabeth (Demming) Flautt. Flautt was president of Jersey State Bank for 15 years. He had the John Deere agency in Jerseyville and Hardin for several years. The retired banker was a member of Royal Arch Masons, Shriners, Ainad Temple, Mississippi Valley Consistory, Elks Lodge and Lions Club. A member of First Presbyterian church, he was chairman of trustees when the educational building was erected. Surviving are his Wife, Mrs. Lila W. (Dougherty) Flautt; 1 son, Leslie L. Flautt of Jerseyville; 1 grandson, John G. Flautt II, and 1 granddaughter, Mary Leslie Flautt; and 1 sister, Miss Hazel I Flautt of Jerseyville.
FLAUTT. Dr James A. Flautt, 63, died at his home in Otterville, December 24, 1911. Funeral was under the auspices of Full Moon Lodge No. 314 of Grafton with Rev. Simeon Hussey of Upper Alton. He was son of James M. & Ann C. (Altoff) Flautt, he was born near Emmetsburg, Maryland May 20, 1848. The parents moved to Ohio and then to Reedsburg, WI, where he was reared and educated. He graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Keokuk, IA and located in Otterville, IL. September 21, 1882, he married Mary (Deming) Demming?) a native of this vicinity. She survives. Also surviving are: 4 sons, Charles E. of Niotaze, KS, Harold Days, James, and John G. of Otterville; 2 daughters, Mary F. and Hazel I of Otterville; 3 sisters, residing in Washington and California. 2 children, Leon and Genevieve preceded him in death as infants. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Oddfellows Lodges. He was active in the affairs of the community.
FLAUTT. Mary D. Flautt, 66, wife of the late Dr. James A. Flautt, died at the family home in Otterville on March 23. Well know and respected woman and had lived since childhood in and near Otterville. She was the daughter of Edwin a & Sophronia T. Hamilton. Her husband, Dr. James A. Flautt who died 14 years ago, practiced medicine in that part of the county for a number of years. She leaves 4 sons, Charles E. of Caney, KS, Harold of Casper, WY, John of Jerseyville and James L. Flautt of Chicago; 1 daughter, Miss Hazel Flautt at home and 2 grandchildren, Margaret Crull and Leslie Lee Flautt. 3 children preceded her in death Mrs. Mary Cryll (Crull?), Leon and Genevieve Flautt. Funeral from Otterville Baptist church with Rev. A. B. Cafson officiating. Burial in Noble cemetery.
FLEMING. Virginia Fleming, 81, of Jerseyville, died March 25, at St. Louis University hospital. She had suffered injuries that evening when she was struck by a car in front of Wells-Norris, Inc. on State St. Jerseyville. Services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Clay Noah officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. She was born November 29, 1898 in Jersey County, a daughter of Ezra T. & Harriet (Gorham) Woodruff. Her husband, Frank Fleming, died in February 1962. Mrs. Fleming was a member of the Ruby Rebekah Lodge 263 and past Noble Grand; Royal Neighbors Steelman Camp No. 146 and past Oracles Club of Royal Neighbors, Jersey County Historical Society, Jersey Community Hospital Auxiliary and Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War. She is survived by her sisters and brothers in law, Genevieve Sinclair and Dorothy Lahey of Jerseyville, Medita Faulkiner, Wood River, Edward Fleming, Godfrey, Hubert Fleming, Fieldon, nieces and nephews. Her husband and 1 sister preceded her in death. Memorials may be given to Tried and True Sunday School class of First Baptist church.
FLEMING. Miss Loretta Julia Fleming, 65 years, 11 months, 6 days, died December 4 at St. John Mercy hospital, St. Louis. She had been in ill health for an extended time. Funeral mass was celebrated at Holy Ghost church with Rev. Fr. Robert Heintz celebrant. Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville was in charge of arrangements. A retired nurse, she was born December 28, 1905, a daughter of the late Thomas & Mary (Connors) Fleming. She was a graduate from St. John School of Nursing in St. Louis. She is survived by 3 sisters, Mrs. Otto (Nellie) Langer and Miss Elizabeth Fleming of Jerseyville and Mrs. Peter (Mary) Earley of St. Louis. Her parents and 3 brothers preceded her in death.
FLEMING. Peter D. Fleming, 30, of Belleville, nephew of Paul Fleming & Mrs. Mary Witt Heitzig of Jerseyville, was killed in a work accident in Christian County, May 11. Fleming was crossing a series of steel beams high inside a new firebox at the Commonwealth Edison power plant about 10 miles west of Taylorville when he slipped and fell. Witnesses said he stopped his fall momentarily by clutching an I-beam but slipped again and grabbed a welding cable, then lost his grip once more and fell more than 100 feet to a steel floor. Surviving are his Parents, Circuit Judge & Mrs. William P. Fleming of Belleville; 3 brothers, Dr. Michael Fleming of Georgia, Timothy of O’fallon and David of Belleville and 2 sisters, Claire of Palantine and Kitty of Belleville.
FLEMING. Robert Thomas Fleming, 15, younger son of Mr. & Mrs. Paul Fleming of Jerseyville, died Tuesday at Firmin Desloge hospital in St. Louis. The youth, a sophomore student at Jersey Comm high school, succumbed to injuries incurred in an auto accident on November 1. FLEMING. James Fleming, 56, born in county mayo, Ireland, May 17, 1836 and in early manhood he came to America. He located first in Pennsylvania, then to NY, then to Indiana, and on to Jersey County, IL. He bought a farm in English township. In 1863 he married Anna (Price) Fleming. He had been previously married. By that union he had 1 child, Mary. From his marriage with Anna, there were 10 children; Julia, Patrick E, Ana, Bridget, Richard, Katie, Ella, James, John and Winfred. He died at Mullanphy hospital in St. Louis on February 29, 1892. Funeral from St. Francis church with Rev. Harty. Burial in Catholic cemetery. FLEMING. Patrick James Fleming, 79, died May 27, at his home on W. Arch St. following an extended ill health. He was born in Jersey County, September 1, 1870 a son of the late —- brid—. Mr. Fleming was a member of St. Francis church and has been a trustee of the church for over 20 years. He was also a member of the Jerseyville Council KC. The decedent is survived by his wife; 4 sons, Judge Joseph Fleming and att William Fleming of East St. Louis, Theodore and Paul Fleming of Jerseyville; 3 daughters, Mrs. James J. Donahue of East St. Louis, Mr. Peter J. Lane of St. Louis and Mrs. Cletus Heitzig of Jerseyville; 15 grandchildren, and 1 brother, John Fleming of Jerseyville. Funeral services were held at St. Francis church May 30. Requiem high mass was celebrated by Fr. John J. Clancy, and interment was in St. Francis cemetery.
FLEMING. Patrick Fleming, died at home in the county of congestion of stomach. He was born in County Mayo, Ireland and came to the US when quite a young man. Funeral was largest ever held in the county and took place at St. Francis church with Rev. Fr. Harty.

FLEMING. A. Z. Fleming, 44, died Friday evening. He was born and reared near Galesburg, Illinois and spent the major part of his life there, where he joined the Masons. In Jerseyville, he found and married his life partner, Minnie (Ewald) Fleming. He had for 2 years been an inmate of the asylum at Jacksonville and entered into rest on Friday. The remains were taken to the home of Frank Miller of Jerseyville, his brother-in-law, and Sunday the funeral was held under the auspices of the Masons. Rev. E. T. Carroll serving. He leaves his wife; 1 6 year old daughter; and 1 son, 10 years old.

FOWLER. Arthur D. Fowler, 86, well known resident of Calhoun County, formerly of Jerseyville, died July 28, 1952 at Alton Memorial hospital. He had been a patient for a week following surgery. He had recently undergone successful surgery for the relief of an eye ailment and was convalescing at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Albert Uzzell in Wood River, when other complication developed major surgery and from that he failed to rally. Mr. Fowler was a horticulturist, preacher and lecturer on prohibition. The Fowler family had resided in Jerseyville for several years. He was a son of the late Rev. & Mrs. William Fowler and was born January 28, 1866, in Hardin. On August 3, 1887, he married Flora Dell (Hadley). Her death occurred in 1938. One year after their 50th anniversary. Surviving are 5 daughters, Mrs Albert Uzzell of Wood River, Mrs. G. C. Rockwood of Springfield, Mrs. O. H. Berry of Bluffs, Mrs. Clarence Skeel of San Francisco, CA, and Mrs. Kenneth Sidwell of Tempe, AZ; 4 Sons, Arthur L. Fowler of Alton, Charles P. Fowler of Springfield, William F. Fowler of Jacksonville and E. L. FLOWERS. Roy E. flowers, 74, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, December 9, 1990. He retired in 1978 as a laborer from Wickenhauser Construction Co. of Alton, after 17 years of service. He was a WWII veteran. Born in Carrollton, he was the son of the late Erva Bunt and Althia Odessa (Taylor) Flowers. He married Vera (Hayes) Flowers August 10, 1936, in St. Louis. She died August 2, 2969. Surviving are 5 daughters, Vera Dean Wood of Littleton, Co, Sharon Bowden of Sparta, Betty Johnson of Grafton, Judy Denother of Alton and Nadine Coen of Pine Grove, WV; 4 sons, Mike, Richard, and Dennis Flowers all of Grafton and Darrell Flowers of Las Vegas, NV; 24 grandchildren; and 7 g-grandchildren. 1 son, Roy E. Flowers Jr., and 1 brother, Darrell Flowers preceded him in death. Visitation and services were held from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Born on October 20, 1910, in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late Ruben Lee & Donna (Alexander) Flowers. He married Mary Alice (Dabbs) Flowers on August 4, 1942, in St. Charles, MO. Surviving are his wife; 1 son, Larry Flowers of Jerseyville; 1 stepson, Harold Kirchner of Jerseyville; 2 grandchildren; 1 step grandchild; 2 step g-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Ruby Jordan of Caseyville. 1 sister, Lois Heater; and 1 brother, Vernon Flowers, preceded him in death. FLYNN. Maurice “Boe” Flynn, 59, of Jerseyville, died April 19, at Wood River Township hospital. Funeral mass was celebrated Monday at Holy Ghost church with Fr. Robert L. Heintz celebrant. Interment was in St. Francis cemetery. A carpenter at Olin Corporation and WWII veteran, he was born March 16, 1914 in Jersey County, the son of John & Susan (Heffron) Flynn. Mr. Flynn was a member of the American Legion, Westerner Club of Alton and Chemical Workers Union. Mr. Flyn had received the certificate of merit and citation while serving with Combat Command B, 7th Armored Div, in the European theater of operations in WWII. He also received the certificate of merit in recognition of conspicuously meritorious and outstanding performance of military duty. He received citation for outstanding service and devotion to duty while engaged in combat with the enemy during the period August 7, 1944 – Dec., 1944. Surviving are his wife, Deloris (Darr) Flynn; 3 sisters, Mr. A. Mary Agnes Tuetken of Hardin, Mrs. Wilma Brown of Alton, and Mrs. Helen Chew of Summerland Key, FL; and 1 brother, Francis Flynn of St. Louis. FLYNN. Patrick Edward Flynn, died in Phoenix, AZ, following a long illness. The Jersey County native had operated a floral and gift shop in Phoenix. Before going west, Mr. Flynn was business agent in the area for hotel and restaurant workers. Visitation was held at Burke Funeral Home, Alton, where the rosary was recited Sunday pm. A son of the late Mr. & Mrs. John Flynn he was born here December 21, 1904. FOILES. Isler “Benny” Benedict Foiles, 65, F. at Christian hospital ne in St. Louis. She was a nurse’s aide at Jersey Community hospital. Born in KY, daughter of the late Robert Lee & Florence (Bates) Page, she married Wilson Benedict who died June 16, 1969. She later married Cecil Foiles who died on October 4, 1983. Surviving are 2 sons, Robin and James, both of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Betty Miller of Brighton and Crystal Varble of Eldred; 22 grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren; 1 brother, Walter Moore of Bethalto; and 3 sisters, Anna Geisler of Jerseyville, Della Scoggins of Carrollton and Bessie Burch of Elgin. Born in Belleview, daughter of the late Grant & Corda (Oden) Webb, she married Jeddie Foiles on August 22, 1918, in Kampsville. He died April 24, 1973. She was a daughter of the late Louis & Liza (Bunch) Peuterbaugh and was born August 11, 1911, in Calhoun County. A WWII veteran, he was recipient of the victory medal, American theatre ribbon, European-African Middle East theatre ribbon, 3 bronze battle stars, 1 overseas service bar, and good conduct medal. He had served with the US Army in northern France, Ardennes and Rhineland battles. Mrs. Forbes, wife of John Forbes, was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Mark Cope and was born in Fieldon September 7, 1916. Surviving are her husband; 2 sons, Robert of Milton and John V. of St. Joseph, MO; 14 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. George Frazier of Jerseyville and Mrs. Charles Hardwick of Shipman; and 2 brothers, Mark Cope of Fieldon and Clarence Cope of Alton. FORBES. Lloyd Frank Forbes Sr., 57, of Jerseyville, died May 26 at Jersey Community hospital. He had been mowing the yard when he became ill and was a patient in the intensive care unit of the hospital. Born August 8, 1922 in time, he was the son of the late Benjamin & Elizabeth (Myers) Forbes. A WWII veteran, he was retired after 23 years duty with the US Air Force. Services were conducted by Rev. Clyde Shaw at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Military services were conducted by Scott Air Force Base. Burial was in Pine Tree Cemetery, Patterson. Forbes had been employed with the postal service in Alton for 11 years. FORD. John Wiley (Casey) Ford, 83, retired tiler and well-digger, died at his home on Stryker Ave., Jerseyville, on October 23, following an extended period of ill health. Mr. Ford was a son of the Late Wiley & Mary (Jaynes) Ford and was born in Sangamon County, October 14, 1883. He had been a resident of Jerseyville for the past 32 years. FORD. Clayton Dudley Ford died in San Francisco, CA, April 23. Ford was a member of the faculty at Principia College for 40 years prior to his retirement in 1970. He was the Director of the School of Government and Head of the Department of Political Science for many years. He was also the founder of Principia’s well known Public Affairs Conference. His survivors are his widow, Muriel, and 2 sons, Clayton Jr. and C. James and a daughter, Mrs. Stephen Penrose.
FORD. Rudy Joseph Ford, 77, of the Delhi area, died April 14 at Wood River Township hospital. He had been ill for some time. Services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Larry Hodge of Rosewood Heights officiated and burial was in Valhalla cemetery. Mr. Ford was born in Greenville on February 13, 1895. Mr. & Mrs. Ford and family had lived in Delhi since 1940. He served in France during WWI and received several medals. He then worked for the NY Central railroad for 28 years prior to his retirement in August 1947. He was a member of UTU. FORD. Thomas Ford, 74, was born in Allentown, NJ on February 5, 1811 and died August 30, 1885. One of the early settlers of the county, he emigrated here about 1836. Jun. 2, 1839, he married Maria (Adams) Ford, who survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs. Sheffer in Kansas City and Miss Mary; 2 sons, in Jersey County. FORD. Mrs. Gertrude HUTCHINSON FORD, mother of George and Gid Ford of this city, died at Olanthe, Kansas, June 2, 1880 in the 80th year of her age. Her remains were brought here for interrnment last Friday. Jersey County Democrat, June 10, 1880.
FORD. George R. Ford, 44, died at his home in Jerseyville on April 5. He was born in Mercer County NJ on February 27, 1839. In 1851, he came to Jersey County with his parents, Gilman & Gertrude Ford with his 7 brothers and 1 sister. He was a painter. 2 of his Brothers, Gideon of Jerseyville and Gilman of Waverly attended the funeral; also 1 sister, Hattie Snelling of Olathe, KS. Funeral from Methodist church with Rev. Cline. FORD. Frank Ford, of Elsah, died at St. Anthony hospital. At 89 years of age, he closed his career of public service. He had been Tax Assessor – County Board of Review – Justice of the Peace. He served in Maison County for 44 years.
FORD. Lizzie M. Ford,11, daughter of George A. & Margaret Ford, was born in Jerseyville on August 31, 1867. She died August 31, 1897, a loving child and a favorite with all her comrades, members of the ss class and scholars of Miss Irene Ferguson’s school. Rev. Daniel W. Philips, officiated at the service at Methodist church. The choir sang the songs she loved and always asked to sing: precious name, sweeping through the gates and pass me not, o gentle savior. Her seat in her sunday school class was draped in mourning. Her school mates and teacher were present. Her ss teacher, Mrs. Cyrus Walters was also present. Pallbearers: Geo Gard, Lincoln Leonard, Perry Erwin and Willie Johnson.
FORD. Maria Ford, 83, died December 11. She was born in the state of Ohio August 31, 1820. She moved to Jerseyville in 1833. Maria (Adams) married Thomas Ford on July 2, 1839; he died August 30, 1885. There were 6 children born to them, only 2 survive, Ransom L. and Aaron, of Jerseyville. Of her father’s family, only 1 brother, Mrs. Charles Adams of Jersey County and 1 sister, Mrs. Dollie French of Chicago. In 1842, she joined First Baptist church. She was one of the oldest members of the church which was organized the year before her baptism, 1841. Funeral from home with Rev. A. Ford.
FORD. Frieda F. Ford, 81, formerly of Delhi, died February 28, 1986, at Christian hospital ne, St. Louis. She was born in Grafton, daughter of the late Carl & Mable (Highfill) Eades. On February 19, 1921, she married Rudy Ford in Alton. He died in April 1972. Surviving are 2 sons, Clayton Ford of Delhi and Rudy Ford II of New Bloomfield, PA; 4 daughters, Bea Busby of Alton, Geraldine Brueggeman, Rosewood Heights, Pat Walker, Alton and Mary Anne Fish, Bethalto; 25 grandchildren and 21 g-grandchildren. Visitation and service was held at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. Revs Lucille Anderson and Timothy Keller officiated. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. FORD. Elizabeth Ford, 79 of Wood River, died at Wood River hospital, where she had been a patient for 3 weeks. Death occurred on April 19, and funeral services were held April 22 at Streeper Funeral Home in Wood River. The body was then brought to Jerseyville for interment in Oak Grove cemetery. She was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Isaac Davis and was born in Jerseyville on April 24, 1872. She spent her early life here and had resided in Alton about 30 years before moving to Wood River 7 years ago. Her husband preceded her in death 44 years ago. Surviving Mrs. Ford are 2 daughters, Mrs. Henry Lind and Mrs. E. Y Streeper of Alton, 3 sons, Charles Ford and Glenn Roberts of Wood River and Louis Roberts of East Alton; 1 brother, Louis Davis of St. Louis; 5 grandchildren and 2 g-grandchildren.

FORD. Miss Mary E. Ford, died in Chicago following an operation. Remains were brought to Jerseyville, to the home of her mother, Mrs. Maria Ford. Rev. Justus Bulkley and J. J. Porter serving. Miss Mollie, as she was known was loved by all. Her physical ailment caused her slight temporary derangement the past year Her death is a great blow to her mother who has been comforted in her declining years by her now deceased daughter.

FOREE. Judge Samuel B. Foree, 55, died at his home on Oak Wild Farm, in Elsah township. Judge Foree was born in Shelby County, KY on September 16, 1849 and a was a resident of Jersey County 47 years. Married in 1878 to Mary (Plumb) Foree. Devoted husband and father of 5 children. Funeral from Melville church with burial at Melville cemetery.

FORRESTER. Donald Leon Forrester, 62, of Jerseyville was born in Greene County on April 18, 1912. He was the son of Lewis & Alma (Lawson) Forrester. He married Mildred (Pinkerton) Forreser in 1939 at bowling Green, MO. Services were held at First Baptist church, Jerseyville with Rev. Everett Chambers officiating. FORSYTHE. Eula Forsythe, 27, wife of William Edward Forsythe died recently. She was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. J. Henry Heron and sister of Eugene F. Heron. She was the mother of Dorothy, age 6, William Eugene, age 4 and Ruth, age 2.
FORT. B Jerry Fort, 36, of rural Jerseyville was dead on arrival at Jersey Community hospital on August 17. Fort was leveling out some gravel, at his home on Fieldon road, when he became ill. He sat down and when he did not feel better he asked his wife Susan to take him to the hospital. He collapsed enroute to the hospital. Fort was director of audio visual education of comm unit dist 100, coming to the local school system in 1964. He was a native of Carrier Mills where he was born July 4, 1940. He is survived by his wife carol Susan Fort, Jerseyville; his mother, Wanda Fort of Carrier Mills, and 2 uncles, Harold Fort of Carrier Mills and Robert Fort of Harrisburg. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were from James Thornton Funeral Home in Carrier Mills on August 21 with Rev. Ray Kelley officiating. Burial was at Gilead Cemetery in Simpson, IL.
FOSHA. Franklin Robert Fosha, 68, of Grafton, died September 27 at the home of his son, Jon W. Fosha in East Alton. He had been ill for some time. Services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton. Rev. Robert Patterson officiated and burial was in Scenic Hill cemetery. He was born on July 26, 1909 in Grafton, a son of Robert W. & Ruth (Davis) Fosha. He was retired as a machinist from Olin Corporation and from the Machinists Union of Olin, and the International Association of Machinists and Areospace Workers. He was a member of Grafton Methodist church and Grafton Full Moon Lodge AF & AM. Surviving are his widow, Bernadine (Auston) Fosha of Grafton; 1 son, Jon W. Fosha of East Alton; 2 daughters, Mrs. Robert (Jane) Hand, East Alton and Mrs. Duane (Ann) Cox of Bethalto; and 6 grandchildren. Visitation from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton. FOSHA. Harry Rexford Fosha Jr., 27 years, 4 months, 9 days, of Meredosia, formerly of Jerseyville died May 14, at Illini Hospital in Pittsfield where he had been a patient for 10 days. He had been in ill health for several years. Fr. Fosha was born in Jerseyville January 5, 1929, a son of Rev. Harry R. Fosha Sr., & Faye (Matthews) Fosha of Meridosia. Surviving are his parents; 1 sister, Mrs. Martin Vanhyning, Denver, CO; and his grandmother, Mrs. Lloyd Powers. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, May 16. Rev. Howard Bushnell of Shawnee, OK, officiated and interment was in White cemetery.

FOSTER. Rev. Dr. Virgil E. Foster, 68, husband of former Jersey County resident imo (ruyle) Foster, died Thursday in NY city. Funeral services were held in New York. Dr. Foster was associate pastor of Pilgrim Congregational church in St. Louis, from 1936-1943. A memorial service was held at the St. Louis church. Before his retirement 3 years ago, Rev. Foster was editor of the Journal of Religious Education, published by the National Council of Churches. Surviving are his wife and 1 son, Edgar Foster of Chicago.

Surviving are 1 son, Truman, Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Mrs. Trulbia White and Mrs. Helen Pritchard of Jerseyville; 4 grandchildren and 2 g-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Henry Freand of Kane and Louis Freand, Jerseyville; and 1 sister, Mrs. Viola Freer of Godfrey. Her husband, parents, 1 son, 1 brother and 5 sisters preceded her in death.
FOSTER. Maggie Foster, 97, who died April 1, at Greenwood Manor nursing home was born April 10, 1883 in Jalappa, Greene County, a daughter of the late Charles & Myra (Hamilton) Legrand. Her husband, William Foster whom she married November 14, 1904 in Jerseyville, died March 3, 1968. Services were conducted at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. William Elder of Bible Baptist church officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Only survivors are nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, 1 son, and 1 daughter. FOSTER. Warren Alfred Foster, 68, of Jerseyville, died June 8, 1988 at his daughter’s residence. He was born March 5, 1920 in Clinton County, to the late Alfred Foster & Mamie Brown. He married Mary Maltimore February 2, 1977 in Jerseyville. He retired on May 31, 1982 after 27 years of service at Laclede Steel as a truck driver. He was a WWII army vet. Surviving are his wife, Mary, Jerseyville; 4 sons, Phillip Dean, Carbondale, Fred and Paul of Alton and Robert of Bunker Hill; 3 daughters, Valerie Foster and Susan Hubbard of Brighton and Margaret Richards of Jerseyville; 2 step daughters, Jody Weller and Marilyn Smith, Jerseyville; 3 step sons, Earl Maltimore, Alton, James Snider, Jerseyville and Kenneth Snider of Roxana; 9 grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 2 sisters, Genevieve Orrell, Keye Sport and Irene Isacck, Carlyle. FOSTER. Mary Foster, 65, died June 12, 1992, at Jersey Community hospital. She was formerly employed as a nurse aide at Garnet’s Chateau, Jerseyville. Born in Fieldon September 23, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Edward & Josephine (Kraushaar) Maltimore. Her husband Everett Pressley, died May 16, 1974. She later married Warren Foster on February 2, 1977, in Jerseyville and he died June 8 1988. Surviving are 2 daughters, Josephine “Jody” Weller and Marilyn Smith, of Jerseyville; 3 sons, Earl Maltimore, Alton, James Snider, Jerseyville and Kenneth Snider, Roxana; 8 grandchildren; 1 sister, Bonita Sherman, Jerseyville; and 1 brother, Perry Maltimore, Jerseyville. Preceding her in death were 1 son, Gary Pressley; 3 brothers and 1 sister. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Tim Garrett officiated at services there and burial was in Fieldon cemetery. Memorials may be given to Bible Baptist church, Jerseyville or American Diabetes Assoc.
FOSTER. Anna Welford, 70, born in London, Middlesex County, England in 1826-7? died at her home. She married Benjamin Foster on March 4, 1855 at Bloomsberry Church in London. She came to America in Apr., 1855 and settled near Jerseyville. Her husband worked for Isaac Snedeker for 2 years. They then moved 6 miles east of Jerseyville and settled in the Roady settlement on a farm. Joined paradise Baptist church. In 1873 they left the farm on Phils creek and moved near Fidelity. Joined Fidelity Baptist church in 1890 they moved to Jerseyville and joined Baptist church. She had taken and reared 2 children; Martha Bartlett who lived with these foster parents until she was married to Dr. James Briggs. Another, Robert Rhoady, lived with them till he was 21 years old. She leaves her husband, 1 sister and the boy she had reared. Her sister, Sarah Welford was with her during her last sickness.
FOSTER. Catherine Foster, 67, was born Catherine Smith in Germany, October 10, 1851. She came to the US at the age of 1 year She married William H. Foster, December 29, 1870. She leaves her husband, 3 sons, James l, Dow, Thomas H., Alton and Arthur A., Chicago; 7 grandchildren and 4 sisters. Service by Methodist church.
FOSTER. Clara E. Foster died February 13 at Little Sisters of the Poor home in St. Louis. The deceased and her late husband, Albert, were well known in Jerseyville. She went to Little Sisters home 5 years ago. Funeral from Gebken chapel in St. Louis with burial in Calvary cemetery there.
FOSTER. Sara Foster, 59, nee Sarah Pinkerton, was born November 14, 1854, in Greene County. She came to Jerseyville in 1884 and made her home with a sister, Mrs. A. Atchison. On November 18, 1898, she married Benjamin Foster, who died December 28, 1908. She died at the Postlewait hotel in Carrollton on August 6. Rev. Catt had the service held at Postlewait hotel on October 8. Burial was at Oak Grove cemetery, Jerseyville. She leaves 1 brother, Thomas, East St. Louis, 1 sister, Mrs. Atchison, Alton.
FOSTER. Blythe William “Bill” Foster, 62, died July 181991 at his home. He retired in 1989 after 40 years service as a carpenter from Russell Construction in Jerseyville. A US Navy WWII veteran, he was past commander of the Crawford Legion Post 1038 of Kane from 1972-76, 1979-80 and 1987. Born in Jerseyville on October 27, 1928, he was the son of the late Joseph & Freda (Lifets) Foster. He married Joan (Crawford) Foster on October 1, 1949, in Jerseyville, and she survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Patricia Ann Price, Kane; 3 grandsons; 1 brother, Roy Foster of Jerseyville; and 5 Sisters, Agnes Woolsey, Dorothy and Florence Russell, Irene Shaw and Anne Haneline, all of Jerseyville. Visitation was from Jacoby-Schroeder Funeral Home, Jerseyville, where services were held by Rev. David Bearchamp. Military graveside rites were conducted at Kane cemetery by American Legion Post 492 and VFW post, both of Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to Kane Baptist church or Amvets Post 267.
FOSTER. Blanche D. Forster, 77, died July 3, 1988, at her residence. She was born in Greene County, daughter of the late Oliver & Pearl (Johnson) Dierking. She married Truman Foster June 27, 1931, in Alton and he survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Joan Dixon, Atlanta, GA; 2 grandchildren and 1 sister, Pauline Fry of Jerseyville. 1 brother and 2 sisters preceded her in death. Visitation and services were held from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. John Wilson conducted services and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to American Heart Association.
FOSTER. Benjamin Foster, 81, died December 29, 1908. He was born March 10, 1827, at Crowhurst, near Battle, County of Sussex, England. When 12 years old he became footman in a Gentlemans House at St. Leanord’s Hastings; from there to London as livery servant. In 1853 he came to the US and settled near Jerseyville. In 1854 he returned to London and on March 4, 1855, he married Ann (Welford) Foster at the parish church of St. George parish at Bloom’s Bay in County Middlesex, by the Curat Rev. Thomas Clark. They returned to Jersey County and he was employed by Isaac Snedeker, where they lived for 2 years. They then moved to Rhoady settlement 7 miles east of Jerseyville and settled on a farm. He was baptized by Elder Trabue into Paradise Baptist church. In 1873 they moved onto a farm near Fidelity. In 1890 he retired and they moved from the farm and to Jerseyville. Mrs. Foster died September 25, 1897. On November 8, 1898, he married Sarah Pinkerton of Carrollton, Greene County. He leaves his wife Sarah, 2 sister-in-laws; and 1 brother-in-law. He had been ordained a Deacon by Paradise church. Services from Baptist church in Jerseyville, Stephen Catt and Simeon Hussey serving with burial in Oak Grove cemetery.
FOSTER. Charles Elleard Foster, 18, died in St. Louis on May 5, 1881 of injuries received from a railroad engine. He was son of Geo I & Levina Foster. FOX. Elvira Fox, 76, wife of Martin Fox, died at her home in Grafton. Born in Jersey County, January 24, 1851 and lived most of her life in Grafton. daughter of Williaml & Sidney Williams, she married Martin Fox in 1868. There were 5 children; the father and 1 Daughter, Agusta Whitfield, preceding her in death. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; and 5 g-grandchildren. Rev. W. L. Emmons officiated at the service from her home. Burial in Hartford cemetery.
FOX. Jason F. Fox, 80, of Alexander, a farmer in Jersey County for 40 years, died July 21 at Passavant hospital in Jacksonville. He was born February 17, 1905, in Sinclair, son of the late Thomas & Addie (Bergman) Fox. He was a member of the Cass-Morgan County Farm Bureau and the Alexander United Methodist church. He married Florence (Cockin) April 11, 1934, and she survives. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Funeral services were held at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville with Rev. Jerry Watkins officiating. Burial was in Diamond Grove cemetery, Jacksonville. Memorials may be given to Alexander Methodist church.
FOX. Esther Fox, 85, a resident of Grafton, died April 20, at St. Joseph hospital, Alton where she had been a patient for 7 days. Mrs. Fox was the daughter of the late James & Ann (Crandel) Austin and she was born at Grafton, February 27, 1862. Surviving are 1 daughter, Mrs. W. F. Duncan of Grafton, 5 grandchildren and 5 g-grandchildren. Services were held April 22, at the Methodist church in Grafton. Rev. Harry Nease conducted the rites and interment was in Hartford cemetery.
FOX. Allan S. Fox, 74, of Godfrey, died at St. Anthony hospital. He had been failing for 2 weeks. He was a lab technician for Amoco Oil and retired in 1976 after 37 years service. A veteran of the US Army, he was born in Grafton, son of the late Herbert B. & Myra (Slaten) Fox. On April 13, 1946, in Alton, he married Kay (Clifton) Fox. Surviving are his wife; 1 daughter, Allison Fox of Portland ME; 2 sons, Shane of Houston, TX and Christopher of Godfrey; and 4 grandchildren. Visitation and services were held at Gent Funeral Home. FOX. Judith I Fox, 80, of Jerseyville, died August 29 at Jersey Community hospital. She was born September 2, 1904, in Hamburg to the late John Martin & Anna (Rodgers) Martin. She married Alfred C. Fox on August 20, 1922. He died January 17, 1964. She was a Sunday school teacher at Faith Temple United Pentecostal church in Jerseyville where she was a member. Surviving are 1 son, Eugene of Vincennes, IN; 1 daughter, Darlene Long of Jerseyville; 1 brother, John P. Martin of Mozier; 2 Sisters, Ella Love of Louisiana, MO and Mamie Okely of Toledo, IL; 3 grandchildren; and 10 g-grandchildren. FOX. Melva Levada Fox, 45, of Jerseyville, died in the sleep at the home of her parents. She had suffered a heart ailment. A licensed practical nurse, she was born in Jersey County daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John Guntren on February 13, 1926. Surviving are her parents; 1 brother, Frank Guntren; 1 sister, , Mrs. Randall (Noreen) Hildred, both of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Sandra Lee Fox of Marble Hill, MO, and Janice Ann Fox of Jerseyville. 2 sons preceded her in death. FOX. Mrs. katherine C. Fox, 83, died March 12 at the home of her son, Marmaduke Fox, in Jerseyville. She leaves 2 sons, J. F. FOYLES. Aaron Foyles, 75, died in his cabin on wheels on Macoupin Island Thursday am. Neighbors found him. He chopped timber on the island and moved his house with him wherever he was employed. Coroner B. M. Brewster called a jury and they returned the verdict of natural causes. Mr. Foyles was a charter member of Fieldon Lodge AF & AM 59. Funeral from Cumberland Presbyterian church at Fieldon with Rev. O. B. Kinsey of Jerseyville Methodist church. Buried in Fieldon cemetery. At the time of his death he had $300 in liberty bonds, $25 in his pocket and a gold watch.
FRALEY. Emma C. Fraley, 91, of Carrollton, died December 19, at her home in Carrollton. She was born in Illinois, daughter of the late Friedrick & Johanna (Feierabend) Wieneke. On June 5, 1923, in Jerseyville she married Mark H. Fraley and he preceded her in death. Surviving are 1 daughter, Opal B. Fraley of Carrollton and 1 sister, Matilda Fraley of Jerseyville. Visitation was at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Graveside rites were conducted in Oak Grove cemetery.
FRALEY. Estel Fraley, 74, a retired farmer of Carrollton, died at his home February 13, after an apparent heart attack. Visitation was held at Hires Funeral Home, Carrollton, and burial was in Carrollton cemetery. He was born in Jersey County, a son of the late Theodore & Rachell (McDaniel) Fraley. He married Mildred (Devening) Fraley in 1923. She died in 1977. On January 5 he married the former Sara Nnn Goodwin who survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Lila Vanausdoll and Mamie Shelton, both of Fieldon; 3 sons, Orville of Anabel, MO and Ralph and Raymond both of Carrollton; 22 grandchildren and 17 g-grandchildren.
FRALEY. Mildred M. Fraley, 74, of R1 Carrollton, died April 3 at Passavant hospital in Jacksonville. Services were conducted by Rev. Kent Tremble at Hires Funeral Home, Carrollton and burial was in Carrollton city cemetery. A native of Alton, she married Extel Fraley in 1923. Surviving are her husband; 2 sisters, Mrs. Willie (Lila) Vanausdoll and Mrs. Don (Mamie) Shelton, both of Fieldon; 3 sons, Orville of Anabel, MO, Ralph and Raymond, both of Carrollton; 22 grandchildren and 13 g-grandchildren.
FRALEY. Earl Raymond Fraley, 74, a rural Jerseyville resident and former member of the Jersey County Board of Supervisors for 12 years, died suddenly at his home on January 8. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at Fieldon United Church of Christ. Rev. Leonard Todd of Moro officiated and burial was in Fieldon cemetery. Though Mr. Fraley and been ill for several years, his death was unexpected. Mr. & Mrs. Fraley had been in Jerseyville Wednesday afternoon and upon returning to their home he said he would rest before the evening meal. His breathing attracted Mrs. Fraley’s attention and she summoned help. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Jersey Community hospital. A son of the late Theodore C. & Rachel (McDanel) Fraley, the former official of Otter Creek township, was born in Montgomery County. He was engaged in farming for many years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Effie (McDow) Fraley; 1 daughter, Mrs. Bertha Hearty of Jerseyville; 4 sons, Stewart Fraley of Fieldon, Stanley and Wilbert Fraley of Jerseyville and Leland Fraley of Carrollton; 19 grandchildren; 7 g-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Warren Fraley of East Alton, Frank Fraley of Litchfield, Lewis Fraley of Chicago, and Estel Fraley of Carrollton. 1 brothers, Mark preceded him in death. FRANK. Grace Frank, 94, former Jerseyville resident, died September 6, 1989 at her home. She was born in Jersey County, daughter of the late Fred & Matilda (Witt) Moore. On November 8, 1911, she and John Frank were married. He died January 27, 1961. Surviving are 3 daughters, Mae Wolf, Granite City, Martha Malson, Alton and Lucy Foster, Troy, MI; 1 son, Rev. Orville Frank, Mabank, TX; 7 grandchildren; and 9 g-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were 1 daughter, Myrtle Guilander; 1 sister, Celia Terpening; and 1 brother, Wesley Moore. FRANKLIN. Thomas E. “Ed” Franklin, 42, of Nebo, a nephew of the late Neil Franklin of Jerseyville, was killed in an auto accident January 30 on the Nebo-Pleasant Hill blacktop 3 miles east of Pleasant Hill. Franklin had been freed from a South Yemen prison in 1974 through the efforts of congressman Paul Findley. He taught for 4 years in an American comm school in Kuwait. In 1973, while on a vacation, he inadvertently crossed the border into South Yemen. He was detained, tried and convicted for espionage. Sentenced to 5 years in prison, he was held for 16 months until Findley traveled there and negotiated his release. He was a US Navy veteran. Franklin had been teaching in the learning disability section in Unit 10 schools in Pittsfield and had previously taught for 2 years in Tanzania and also at Hannibal, MO. In 1981 he traveled on the USS Monticello teaching GED courses. Surviving are his parents, Evans & Vernice (Boren) Franklin and 1 brother, Kent of Alton.
FRANKLIN. O Neil Franklin, 62, owner and operator of Neil’s Jewelry Store for 28 years, died May 22 at Barnes hospital in St. Louis from a heart attack. He had had heart surgery a few years ago. Franklin purchased the former Laross Jewelry in 1953. Born in Nebo July 18, 1918, he was the son of the late Edward & Fannie (Martin) Franklin, and was a WWII army veteran. He was a member of First United Methodist church, Jerseyville, American Legion 492, Shriners Ainad Temple, East St. Louis, Scottish Rite Lodge, Jerseyville Masons, AF & AM 394 and was a past president of the Jerseyville Lions Club and Westlake Country Club. Surviving are his wife, Corrine (Coulter) Franklin whom he married April 4, 1942 in St. Charles, MO; 1 son, Neil Jan Franklin, Jerseyville; twin daughters, Ann Corrine Franklin and Alice Christine Schickendanz of Springfield; 3 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Evans, Nebo, Denham, Alton and Harris, Pleasant Hill; and 1 sister, Edrah Goltz, Alton. Services were held at United Methodist church with Rev. R. E. George officiating, assisted by Circuit Judge Howard L. White. Graveside rites were conducted at Nebo cemetery. Franz, whose death occurred Tuesday morning, September 18, at six oclock at her home near Grafton. Rev., Henry Heyer of Grafton will officiate and interment will be in the Hartford cemetery. Mrs. Franzs death occurred following an illness of only a few days. She was the daughter of Victor and Agnes Helling Thurm and was born at Saxon, Germany, on May 18, 1877. Besides her husband, Mrs. Franz is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. Agnes Ward and Mrs. Lillie Grizzle of Jerseyville, Mrs. Freda Dabbs, Mrs. Flosie Highfill, Miss Zada Franz and Miss Pauline Franz of Godfrey, and Mrs. Lela Spillman of Alton; three sons, Leo, Wesley, and Ernest Franz of Grafton and one sister, Mrs. Oscar Dabbs of Jerseyville. She was preceded in death by one son and one daughter.

FRASIER. James H. Frasier, 92, of N. Alton, died August 6, at Blu Fountain Manor nursing home. Funeral mass was said at St. Peter & Paul church with interment in St. Patrick cemetery, Godfrey. He had come to Grafton at the age of 6 by mule train with his parents, the late Henry & Jewell Frasier and had attended Grafton schools. He was a shovel maker for Beall Tool Co. in Alton for 38 years.
FRAZER. Margaret Ellen Frazer, 79, died June 30, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Cope where she made her home. She was the daughter of the late F. W. & Catherine (Worthey) Dabbs, and was born in Jersey County, January 15, 1871. Her husband preceded her in death. Surviving is 1 daughter, Mrs. George Cope, Jerseyville; 4 sons, Edward Frazer of Grafton, George Frazer of Jerseyville, Harry Frazer of Carrollton and Herbert Frazer of Fieldon; 1 brother, Oscar Dabbs of Fieldon and 1 sister, Mrs. Don Beach of Otterville. FRAZER. Ethel M. Frazer, 88, formerly of Jerseyville, died May 12 at St. Luke hospital in San Francisco, CA. She was born August 5, 1895 in Jersey County, daughter of the late Stephen & Rosetta (Landon) Hills. She married Charles H. Frazer in 1918 in Jerseyville; he died in June, 1973 in Denver, CO. She is survived by 1 daughter, Dorothy Lansche of San Francisco, with whom she resided; 2 grandchildren and 2 g-grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 nieces, Helen Fraley of Jerseyville and Vesta Greene of Bloomington. Burial was in East Lawn cemetery, Denver, CO.
FRAZER. Ada M. Frazer, 86, died March 18, 1987 at St. Mary hospital Clayton, MO. She was born in Otter Creek township, Jersey County, a daughter of the late John & Caroline (Householder) Brockmeyer. On September 10, 1932, in Bowling Green, MO, she married Herbert Leslie Frazer. He died April 4, 1985. FRAZER. George F. Frazer, 79, of Jerseyville, died April 30 at Greenwood Manor nursing home where he had resided since January 16. He was born in Jersey County January 13, 1899, a son of Fred & Maggie (Dabbs) Frazer and was a retired farmer. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lena (Cope) Frazer whom he married August 3, 1921; 2 daughters, Mrs. Vincent (Ruth) Richey and Mrs. Eugene (Mickey) Steinkuehler, both of Jerseyville; 1 son, George E. He and his wife, Ethel (Hills) Frazer, went to Denver in 1943 for reasons of his health and had resided there ever since. Mr. Frazer was a salesman of the Post Dispatch for many years in this community. FRAZIER. Thomas M. Frazier, 55, died January 12, 1991, at Jersey Community hospital after a lengthy illness. He was a crop hail adjuster for Country Companies Ins co, Jerseyville and was a US Air Force veteran. Frazier had taught school since 1961 at many Jersey County schools, including Illini Junior high, Jerseyville, where he had served as principal since 1984. He was previously a teacher, coach, Dean of Students and Assistant Principal at Illini. Born in White Hall, he was the son of Ruth (Black) Frazier of Jerseyville and the late Thomas J. Frazier. May19, 1956, in Scott, Ar, he married Frances (Phillips) Frazier. She survives. Also surviving are his mother, 3 daughters, Lisa Rene Sterkenburg of Grand Rapids, MI, Leigh Ann Stedkel, Carrollton and Leslee Frazier at home; 3 grandchildren; 1 sister, Sandra Kuehnel, Jerseyville; and 2 brothers, Dennis J. Surviving are her husband, Clifford; her parents; 5 daughters, Mrs. Helen Tucker of Peoria, Mrs. Blanche Curl, Rockford, Mrs. Lena West, Mrs. Beulah Beard and Miss Margie Frazier, Jerseyville; 3 sons, Carl Clifford Jr., and Frank Frazier, Jerseyville; 1 brother, Loren Stoeckel, Alton; and 3 sisters, Mrs. Harry Allen and Mrs. Lee Ayres, Alton and Mrs. Elmer Heath, Jerseyville; and 9 grandchildren. 1 son preceded her in death. FREDENBERG. Irene B. Fredenberg, 78, of East Alton, died December 10, 1986, at Wood River Township hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Grafton, she was the daughter of the late William & Lela (Heeley) Bray. She was an operator for International Shoe Co. until her retirement. She married Earl Fredenberg on November 7, 1932, in Jerseyville, and he survives. Also surviving is a brother, Allen Green of Washington state. Visitation and services were from Marks Mortuary in Wood River, with George Bell officiating. Burial was in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens, Bethalto.
FREDENBURG. Mary A. Fredenburg, 81 years, 5 months, 16 days, died at her home in Otterville December 26, 1905. Funeral services were from Otterville ME church, Rev. S. Albrecht officiating. The large concourse of friends and kindly neighbors bore testimony of the esteem in which she was held in this community. The maiden name of the deceased was Lofton, oldest child of Samuel & Catherine Lofton. She was born near what is now Salem IN, then Greene County, but now Jersey, July 10, 1824. On August 20, 1844, she married E. F. Fredenburg, who 25 years ago preceded her to that realm from which no one returns. To this union were born 10 children, 6 of whom survive her, 4 daughters and 2 sons. They were all with her during her last week’s illness and all that loving hearts and willing hands could do was done. For about a quarter of a century she was a zealous and devoted member of the ME church in Otterville. For several month past her waning strength gave notice to all that the shadowy reaper death was at hand. Many weary nights during life has she spent by the bed side of the sick and the dying but she is now in that land whose inhabitants wander not and are never weary. The kindly acts of her neighbors can never be forgotten and though the burial day was the most inclement of the winter yet a large concourse followed the remains to the burying ground through the storm. The lord has called her to a land that is stormless and shadowless. One by one the landmarks of early times are disappearing. She has crossed the shadowy river and joined the great congregation. Mrs. Fredenberg had lived in this immediate neighborhood all her life and will be sadly missed, as she possessed a jovial disposition and was a friend to everyone.

Born March 13, 1888, he was the son of Dellevin & Alice (Osburn) Fredenburg of Otterville. During his early life Mr. Fredenburg was a painter. He had lived in Jerseyville for 14 years. Surviving are his wife, Margaret; 2 sons, Earl, East Alton and Burnell, Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Rita) Whetzel, Alton and Mrs. Robert (Opal) Kronable, Jerseyville; 10 grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Mabel Busch, Jerseyville and Mrs. Mary Freer, Leavaenworth, KS. FREEMAN. Margaret freeman, daughter of Peter & Mary Eade, was born in parish Glenmore, County Kilkenny, Ireland in 1819. She married James Freeman in Glenmore in 1852. In 1863 she came to the US to join her husband who had preceded her and she lived in Jersey County until her death on February 20, 1908. Her husband died several years ago. She leaves 3 daughters , Mary, Mrs. jo travis of St. Louis, Mrs. T. a. Whalen, peoria; 1 son, whereabouts unknown; 2 brothers, Patrick Eade of Glenmore, Ireland and James Eade of Lynn, Massachusetts. FREEMAN. Sybil Freeman, 69, of Augusta, GA, died of a heart attack at an Augusta hospital. Word was received her by her nieces, Mrs. Lora Bradshaw and Freda Freiman. She was a retired Army officer and was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Freeman, in 1969. She is survived by 1 son, Ernest; and twin brothers, Lyle and Leon of Tunic, MS. She was the daughter of Grafton residents, the late Fritz & Arleigh Freiman. Rites were conducted April 13.

Born in Grafton, she was a daughter of the late John & Elizabeth (Watsonn) Kaslick. On October 6, 1915, in Grafton, she married Robert E. Freeman, and he died June 4, 1961. Surviving are 2 sons, Robert A. Freeman, Godfrey and Elbert “Tot” Freeman, Alton; 7 grandchildren; and 8 g-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 1 sister and 4 brother. Burial was in portland. He died August 22 at the home of his son, Robert, in Portland where he had resided for a few weeks. He was an auto salesman until his retirement in 1962. Besides his parents and paternal grandparents he is survived by 2 sisters, Kelly and Kim, both at home; and maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Leon Bayer of Phoenix. Services were held at Lincoln Heights Christian church with Rev. Arthur Harrington officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Memorial Park. He was born November 20, 1896 in St. Louis, son of John J. & Ella (Geaukrodger) Greivogel and had moved to Florida in 1970. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Frances Dobrovolski of Jerseyville, 3 nephews and 1 niece. Osgood-Cloud Funeral Home, Pinellas Park, Florida was in charge of arrangements.

FRESHOUR. Died 30-04-1979. Barney “Jack” Freshour, 52, of Tri Lake Estates, Jerseyville, died April 30 at Jersey Community hospital after a lengthy illness. Service was conducted at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Herbert Bierman officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. He was born July 2, 1926 in Alton, son of Ray & Lazette (Wade) Freshour. He was a WW II veteran and had worked as a pipefitter. Surviving are his wife, Sharon (Ament) Freshour whom he married August 19, 1977; 2 sons, S/Sgt. Randolph Freshour of Granite City and Wade Freshour of Jerseyville; 2 Daughters, Vicky Lynn Young and Debra Ann Lott of Jerseyville; 3 grandchildren; his step father, Henry Smith of Jerseyville; 2 half brothers, Kenneth Smith, Jerseyville and Frank Smith, Nutwood. His parents and 1 half brother preceded him in death. Military services were conducted by American Legion and VFW.
FREY. Died 29-03-1987. Mary Frey, 84, died March 29, at Jersey Community hospital. She was born in Jersey County, daughter of the late Charles & Rosa (Benton) Sween. Her husband, Adam William Frey preceded her in death. Surviving are 1 nephew, Charles Bligh, Alton; and 1 niece. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were conducted at First United Methodist church, Jerseyville. Burial was in Upper Alton cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church where she was a member.
FREY. Adam William Frey, died in February, 1972. His body was given to Chicago University for scientific study. His widow, Mary, resides in Jerseyville. FRIEDEL. Died 28-06-1990. Aloys A. Friedel, 58, died June 28, at Jersey Community hospital. He retired in 1972 as a machinist at Owens Illinois Inc. of Alton and was a US Army veteran. Born in Hardin, he was the son of Anna (Kiem) Friedel of Wood River and the late George Friedel. He married Ceclia (Hazelwonder) Friedel December 31, 1952, in Michael and she survives. Also surviving are 2 sons, Bill Friedel of Hamburg and Bob Friedel of Jerseyville; 5 daughters, Ruth Lacy, Mary Brown, Jeannie Lott and Bonnie Imming all of Jerseyville and Sandy Schafer of West Alton, Missouri; 1 niece whom he Raised, Lori Warner of Ft. Drum, New York; 17 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Rita Klass of Meppen and Sister Mary Gabriel of Normandy, Missouri; and 7 Brothers, Joe Friedel of Hardin, Pat and Gabe Friedel, Batchtown, Ed Friedel of Bethalton, George Friedel, Granite City, Brother Norbert Friedel of St. Louis and Charlie Friedel of Bushnell. Preceding him in death were 1 daughter, Margaret Ann Friedel; 1 sister, Ethel Lehr; and 1 brother, Paul Friedel.

FRITSCH. Died 19-06-1983. Blanche Fritsch, 87, died at her home in Kane on June 19. She was born September 22, 1895 in Fieldon to the late William & Peah (Drainer) Hetzel. She married Karl Fritsch, November 26, 1914 and he died July 30, 1 963. Surviving are 3 Daughters, Alice East, Kansas City, Missouri, Juanita Davis of Mt. Olive and Inez Darr, Bethalto; 2 brothers, Guy Hetzel and Virgil Hetzel; and 1 sister, Olive Carrico, all of Kane; 9 grandchildren and 19 g-grandchildren. Memorials may be given to heart fund. Services were at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. James Vaughn officiated and burial was in Kane cemetery.
FRITZ. Died 1917. William Fritz, 36, died at his home in Carrollton. Funeral from Presbyterian church there. He was the only son of Mr. & Mrs. Louis Fritz and was born April 23, 1881 at Hesse Darmstadt, Germany. Came to US with his parents when only 4 years old. April 4, 1910, he married Mabel A. Lice (Wiegand) Fritz of Jerseyville who survives. Also surviving is his 5 year old Daughter, Florence Fern. He worked for the Illinois Telephone Company.
FRITZ. Died 28-06-1921. Mary Jane Fritz, 78, wife of Godfrey Fritz, died at her home in Jerseyville on June 28. She had been in ill health for some time. Her death was due to bronchial pneumonia and her age. She was one of the best known of the older residents of Jerseyville and besides her husband, she leaves 3 sons, Frank, Jerseyville, Charles, Florida and Fred of California; and 1 daughter, Miss Lizzie Fritz, Jerseyville. She was the grandmother of Lester Fritz of Jerseyville and Mrs. Walter Seehausen of Alton, formerly of Jerseyville. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church, July 1 with Rev. R. B. Favoright officiating assisted by Rev. Joseph Jenkins. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.
FRITZ. Died 15-11-1986. Eugene Fritz, 82, died November 15 at Jersey Community hospital. He had retired from farming in 1974 and was born in Jersey County, son of the late Georg E. & Zfana (Reddish) Fritz. He married Maud (Clark) Fritz on December 8 , 1945 and she died January 31, 1979. On May 2, 1982, in Jersey County, he married Lula Lucille (Perrin) (Brooks) Fritz, she survives. Also surviving are 2 Stepsons, Ralph Robert Brooks of Mesa, Arizona, and Ronnie Lee Brooks of Godfrey; 2 step daughters, Mary Joanne Brinkman, Brandon, Flordia and Ethel Anderson of Eldred; 11 step grandchildren; 14 step g-grandchildren; 1 brother, Herschel Fritz, Jerseyville; and 2 sisters, Ethel Tucker of Medora and Helen Smith of Athens, Illinois. Visitation was at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at Bethel Baptist church east of Jerseyville. Rev. Earl D. Clagg and Wayne Pendleton officiated. Burial was in Medora cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church.
FRITZ. Died 28-07-1960. Lester Walpole Fritz, 73, of Jerseyville, died July 28, at Jersey Community hospital where he had been a patient for a week. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held there by Rev. Harold E. Lane, pastor of First Baptist church. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr. Fritz a son of the late Charles & Lelia (Cyter) Fritz, was born in Jerseyville, November 2, 1886. He was a member of one of the early families of Jerseyville and had spent his entire life here. His paternal G-grandfather, Gottlieb Walpole , prepared the first grave in Oak Grove cemetery. The marriage of Mr. Fritz and Florence (Krotzsch) Fritz also of a pioneer family of Jerseyville, took place at the Presbyterian church in Chicago. For many years the decedent was identified with Jerseyville Telephone Co., now a branch of GTE Company. He served the utility as a laborer, line man and superintendent, resigning from the latter position 9 years ago. In his retirement he has continued to serve as constable in Jersey township. Surviving are his wife; 2 sons, Morris and Gordon Fritz of Los Angeles, California and 3 grandchildren.
FRITZ. Died 04-02-1981. Sherman Fritz, 82, of Jerseyville died at his home February 4. He was a retired farmer and was born December 2, 1898 in Fidelity township, the son of George & Zana (Reddish) Fritz. He married Freida (Flunker) January 6 , 1937. He is survived by his wife; 2 brothers, Eugene and Herschel Fritz both of Jerseyville and 2 Sisters, Ethel Tucker of Medora and Helen Smith of Athens. Funeral services were held February 7 at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Earl Clagg of Bethel Baptist church officiated. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. FRITZ. Died 31-01-1979. Maude M. Fritz, 78, of Jerseyville, died January 31 at St. Joseph hospital in Alton. She was born in Fidelity township November 24, 1900, the daughter of Charles & Elizabeth (Bright) Clark. She married Eugene Fritz December 8, 1945. She is survived by her husband, 1 Sister, Myra Boushka, Jerseyville, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers. Visitation was held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at First Assembly of God Church, Rev. Kenneth Schmidgall officiating. Burial was in Medora cemetery. Memorials may be given to Alton Chapter, American Cancer Society.
FRITZ. Died 07-08-1966. William F. Fritz, 88, died August 7, at Waters Nursing Home, Jerseyville. He had been in failing health for some time. Funeral services were held August 10 at First Baptist church, Jerseyville. Rev. W. Louis Purcell, pastor of First Methodist church officiated. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Visitation was held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. He was a son of the late Frederick & Katherine ( Weller) Fritz and was born in Jersey County, May 13, 1878. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lovie Fritz, 2 sons, Dellon and Paul Fritz; 3 daughters, Mrs. Leona Schultz, Mrs. Virgil Brooks and Mrs. J. Wilbur Campbell, Jerseyville; 12 grandchildren and 9 g-grandchildren.
FRITZ. Died 03-02-1986. Willis F. Fritz, 85, of Alton, died February 3, at Alton Memorial hospital. He was a machine foreman at Owens-Illinois Glass Company Where he was employed for 43 years, retiring in 1965. Born in Fidelity, son of the late Charles H. & Josephine Elizabeth (Brooks) Fritz, he married Opal (Henderson) Fritz June 30, 1937, in Alton. Surviving are his wife, 1 son , Richard H. Fritz, Bethelhem, Pennsylvania; 2 grandsons; and 1 brother, Charles Fritz of Toledo, Ohio. Visitation was at Smith Funeral Home, Alton where Masonic rites were conducted by Franklin Masonic Lodge #25 AF & AM. Services at the funeral home were conducted by Rev. John Grisham. Burial was in Upper Alton cemetery. Memorials may be given to Upper Alton Baptist church where he was a member.

Frost of Anaheim, California; 1 step daughter, Mary (Ballard) Elrod, Dalton, Georgia; 6 grandchildren. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society.
FROST. Died 04-1967. Irma L. Frost, 63, of Alton, formerly of Jerseyville, died at St. Anthony hospital, Alton. The rosary was recited at Staten Chapel and committal rites were held at Oak Grove cemetery, Jerseyville. Mrs. Frost, was a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Roy Schafer, and was born in Jerseyville, October 1, 1903. She was educated in the local school system and made her home here for a number of years. Her death followed an extended period of ill health and had been a patient at St. Anthony since last oct. She had been employed in the metallic loading and packing department of Olin-Illinois.
FROST. Died 18-02-1971. Gertrude Lee Frost, 84, Jerseyville resident , died February 18, at Blu Fountain Manor, Godfrey. She had been in ill health for some time. She is survived by her 106 year old mother, Mary Branham of Alton. She was the daughter of Mrs. Mary (Pickett) (Cullison) Branham and the late James Cullison and was born September 21, 1886, in White County, Illinois. She married and was the widow of Curtis Frost, Jerseyville business man. Surviving are 2 daughters, Miss Dora Fay Frost, Associate Professor in Business at Indiana State University in Evansville, Indiana, and Miss Cuma Lee Frost , Assistant Principal of Jersey Community high school. She was preceded in death by her husband, 1 daughter, Cheerful Frost, 1 sister, Mrs. Lucy Tickner and 1 brother, Bert Branham. Rev. Louis Purcell, pastor of United Methodist church, officiated at final rites held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.
FROST. Died 14-03-1992. Elmer N. Frost, 87, died March 14, at Passavant area hospital, Jacksonville. Born December 8, 1904, in Jersey County, he was son of the Late Samuel Newton & Ida (Kitzmiller) Frost. He was a lifelong farmer retiring in 1984; and was a member of Jersey County Farm Bureau. On August 18 , 1924, in Jerseyville, he married Nellie K. (Kruse) Frost. She survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Doris Laird, Jerseyville; 3 grandchildren; 4 g-grandchildren; 5 sisters, Tossie Ritchey, Brighton, Mildred Lovel, Jacksonville and Lelia Moore, Louise Ghent and Polly Opperman, all of Alton; and 1 brother, Paul F. Frost, St. Louis. He was preceded in death by 4 Sisters, Stella Johnson, Belle Wiegand, Ann Daniels and Opal Walker. Visitation was at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at Bethel Baptist church east of Jerseyville. Rev. Earl D. Clagg and Rev. Joe Duncan officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church (Bethel) where he had been a member for 72 years.
FROST. Died 04-1-1982. Russell “Bud” Russell, 63, of St. Louis, a former resident, died November 4 at Barnes hospital, St. Louis. He was the son of the late Otis & Sadie Frost. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy (Miller) Frost, formerly of Jerseyville, 1 daughter, 3 sons, 9 grandchildren and 1 sister. Funeral services were conducted November 8, at Math-Herman Funeral Home in St. Louis. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.
FROST. Died 06-07-1974. George Howard Frost, 82, of Jerseyville, died July 6, at Greenwood Manor, Jerseyville. Final rites were conducted July 9 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Earl Clagg officiated. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. He was born June 24, 1892 in Jersey County, son of Marion & Clara (Farmer) Frost. Mr. Frost, a general laborer, was a WW I veteran. He is survived by 1 stepson, Robert Tunehorst of Alton. His Wife, Irma (Schafer) Frost, preceded him in death. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The American Legion and VFW conducted graveside rites.
FROST. Died 27-01-1893. James Frost, 70, died January 27, at his home near Fidelity. He leaves 3 sons and 3 daughters. Rev. J. J. Porter.
FROST. Died 27-01-1883. James C. Frost, 51, was born in Middletown Point, New Jersey on November 22, 1832. He died in Fidelity, Jersey County, January 27, 1883. He came to this county in the spring of 1835 with his parents who kept a hotel in Jerseyville for 11 years. They then moved to a farm 2 miles west of Jerseyville, where his father died. James C. was married September 27, 1849 to Elizabeth (Smock) Frost of Greene County. He was a bricklayer for 2 years and after his marriage they bought a farm 3 miles west of Fidelity. In May of 1867 they moved to Fidelity and opened a hotel which he operated until his death. James C. and Elizabeth were parents of 5 sons and 6 daughters.
FROST. Died 24-02-1928. Samuel Newton Frost, 67, son of Samuel & Emily Frost, died at his home 1/2 mile north of Bethel Baptist church and 10 miles northeast of Jerseyville. He was born in the same home where he was born on July 26, 1860. He Married Ida (Kitzmiller) Frost on December 17, 1889. He joined the Bethel Baptist church December 31, 1915 and remained a member until his death. Services were held there by Rev. W. R. Johnson. Surviving are his wife and all 11 of their children: 9 daughters, Mrs. Lelia Moore , Piasa, Mrs. Stella Johnson, Medora, Mrs. Tossie Ritchey of Medora, Mrs. Belle W. Wiegand, Wood River, Anna Mildred, Opal, Louise and Mary Olive all at home; 2 sons, Elmer Frost, living near their home and Paul at home; and 12 grandchildren. Burial in Pruitt cemetery near the resting places of his mother and brother, Franklin M. Frost.
FROST. Died 01-09-1952. Rachel Rebecca Frost, 91, former resident of Jerseyville, died at her home in Redlands, California on September 1. The remains were brought to Jerseyville and taken to Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held there on September 6. Rev. F. W. Schwarzlose, pastor of First Methodist church officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. She was daughter of the late James C. & Elizabeth (Smock) Frost and was born in Jersey County, September 12, 1860. Her only immediate survivor is Mrs. Fannie McCollister of Redlands, California.

FROST. Died 03-1926. Clarence Smith Frost, 74, a native of Jerseyville, died at Pasadena, California. The message was sent to his sister, Mrs. Fannie McCallister. He was a son of Mr. & Mrs. James C. Frost, pioneers of Jersey County and was born in Jerseyville. He served 1 term as sheriff in the early 80’s. He leaves his wife, Nettie (Christopher) Frost and 3 sons, Walter, Arthur, and earl all of Pasadena. Funeral in Pasadena, California.
FRY. Died 08-06-1957. Mary Ann Fry, infant daughter of Elzie H. & Arlene (Urban) Fry, of Jerseyville, died about 1 1/2 hours after her birth on June 8 at Jersey Community hospital. Brief services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Fr. Thomas Gorman of St. Francis officiated at the service and interment at St. Francis cemetery. Surviving are her parents ; 1 brother, Daniel D. Fry; her paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Marshall Fry, Jerseyville; her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Clara Urban, Kewaunee, Wisconsin; her paternal g-grandmother, Mrs. Mag – incomplete.
FRY. Died 1919. George Fry, a former resident of Jerseyville, died at his home in Kewanee, Illinois. Funeral was held there. For many years he had a tin and plumbing shop on S. State St. where the Retterath shop is now. Mrs. Fry is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Tiser Cray and sister of Louis H. Cray, all of Jerseyville.
FRY. Died 25-12-1979. Nelson Fry, 47, of Mesa, Arizona, son of Mr. & Mrs. Marshall Fry of Jerseyville, was killed in an auto accident near Globe, Arizona on Christmas day. He was born December 14, 1931 in Gray Ridge, Missouri, son of Marshall & Hazel (Knight) Fry. He served for the US military during the Korean conflict and was sales manager for Emp Corp., in Tempe, Arizona. He is survived by his wife, Muriel (Bright) Fry, Mesa; his paernts ; 1 son, Bradley, of Mesa; 1 daughter, Dana Crenshaw, Mesa; 1 sister, Margaret Racine, Okeechobee, Florida; 4 brothers, Ronald, Jerseyville, Bill, Cleveland, Ohio, Elzie of Pontiac and Doyle of St. Louis, Missouri. Services were conducted at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville on December 31. Interim pastor Willard Foote of First Baptist church officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery.
FRY. Died 1888. Julia Ward Fry, 55, wife of Capt. W. M. Fry, died at Carrollton. The funeral was held at the residence, Rev. J. A. Berry officiating. Mrs. Fry was a sister-in-law to Mrs. G. W. Ware of Jerseyville.
FRY. Died 11-04-1881. Emily Fry, 70, died at her home in Greene County on April 11. She was born March 1, 1811 in Sparta, Tennessee, daughter of Gen Jas. Turney, who was at one time Attorney General of the State of Illinois. She came to Kaskaskia in 1822 and later moved to Carrollton. At age 15, she married Jacob Fry , who died 2 months earlier than she. Funeral from Christian church, burial in Oak ridge cemetery, Springfield, beside her husband. She leaves 3 sons and 2 daughters.
FRY. Died 1912. Henry A. Fry, 89, one of the oldest residents of Brown County, died at his home in Mt. Sterling, after a lingering illness. He was almost 90 years of age. Interment in Mt. Sterling cemetery. He is survived by his wife; 2 sons, Geo A. Fry, Jerseyville, H. R. Fry of Cooperstown; and 1 daughter, Mrs. H. c ren of Frederick.
FRY. Died 1881. Gen. Jacob Fry, 82, of Greene County, Illinois, died at his home 6 miles south of Carrollton. He built the first house in Carrollton, and was the first sheriff of Greene County. He was a captain in the Black Hawk War, having control of Illinois and Michigan canal on the part of the state, office of the collector of the port of Chicago. He was on the side of the Union in the Civil War, becoming blind in service for his country. He was a friend of Douglas, Shields, Lincoln, Breese , Semple, Buckmaster, French, Ford, and Trumbull. He leaves 3 sons, William now at Carrollton, James, who is on Gen Hancock’s staff and Edward who resides in San Francisco, California. Gen. Fry was buried at Oak ridge cemetery, Springfield. Shortly following the preceding (February) his widow Emily, was brought to the home of her daughter Mrs. G. W. Ware in Jerseyville, in very feeble condition due to heart Disease. Dr A. A. Shoebe and Dr. Reynolds of Kane attended her. Her death occurred April 11, 1881.
FRY. Died 27-12-1984. Della M. Fry, 86, died December 27 at Jersey Community hospital. She was born March 17, 1897 in Wayne County daughter of Andrew & Adelia (Brady) Wood. Her husband, Duff Fry preceded her in death in 1955. Funeral at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial in Oak Grove cemetery. She leaves 2 sons, Joe French and Jerry Fry of Jerseyville; and 3 stepsons, Harold Fry of Elsah, Loman Fry of Scramento, California and Marshall Fry of Jerseyville; 38 grandchildren and numerous g-grandchildren.
FRYE. Died 03-1898. James H. P. Frye, 68o, was born 3 miles west of Hardin in Calhoun County on September 28, 1829. He died at the home of his sisters in Jerseyville. He married Fannie (Estes) Frye, of canton, Ohio, October 22, 1862. they were parents of 9 children, 5 preceding their father in death. He leaves 2 sons, Lee and George Frye; 2 daughters, Sarah C. and Mary Virginia; 2 sisters, Emeline B. Johnson and Mary Louisa Patterson; and 2 nephews, William and Gustus Johnson. Funeral from home of Mrs. Johnson with Rev. G. W. Shepherd officiating. Burial in Oak Grove cemetery.
FRYE. Died 12-05-1982. Leonard Frye, 71, of Jerseyville, died May 12, at Jerseyville Care center. He was a carpenter, and was born February 13, 1911 in Fayette, a son of Everett and Ina (Range) Frye. Surviving are 5 sons, Glenn, Vallejo, California, Dean, Rock Island, Marvin, Jerseyville, Robert, Alton and Harry, Girard; 2 Daughters, Estalene Brown, Shipman and Donna Walden, Thayer; 26 grandchildren; 4 sisters, Ruth Anderson, Sacramento, California, Naomi Huff, Jerseyville, Rosemary Alberico and Lois Shott of Carlinville. She married Fred Loellke in 1941, at St. Charles, Missouri. He died in 1962. Surviving are 2 sons, Eldon and Stanley Loellke, both of Jerseyville; 1 daughter, Betty Jackson of High Ridge, Missouri; 6 grandchildren; 4 Brothers, Gerald Baker, South Roxana, Jacob Baker, Alton, and Fred and Charles Baker, both of Jerseyville; and 1 Sister, Wilba Holtsworth, Jerseyville. 3 sisters and 2 brothers preceded her in death. She had been a longtime member of Jersey County Home Extension and American Legion Auxiliary. Visitation and services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Dan Harry officiated. He was a self employed independent truck driver and retired in 1974 from the Illinois Highway Department. Born March 4, 1909, in Rosedale, he was son of the Late Leavit & Daisey (Miles) Fryman. Surviving are his wife, Beulah Delp; 1 son, Virgil Fryman, Godfrey; 8 stepchildren; 5 grandchildren; 6 g-grandchildren; 1 brother, Wesley Fryman of Alton; and 3 sisters, Lucille Fryman, Mary Michels and Rosa Webster, all of Jerseyville. 1 son, Clayton Fryman, and 1 sister preceded him in death. She was a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. James Warden and was born in Niangua, Missouri, January 3, 1879. Surviving are 1 daughter, Mrs. Hugh (Gladys) Roberts of Jerseyville; 4 Sons, Charles E., William N., and Fred L. Fuchs, all of Jerseyville, and Francis J. Fuchs, St. Louis; 5 grandchildren; and 1 g-grandson. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors Lodge.
FUCHS. Died 06-12-1982. Francis Joseph Fuchs, 71, who had resided at the Veteran’s Home in Quincy for the past 12 years, died there December 6. He was born May 1, 1911, in Jerseyville, son of the late Joseph & Anna (Warren) Fuchs. He was retired from Wohl Shoe, St. Louis, Missouri. He served in the US Army during WW II. He is survived by 2 brothers, William and Fredrick Fuchs, both of Jerseyville; nieces and nephews. Final services were held at Burke Funeral Home, Grafton. Burial was in Long cemetery, Belleview. She was born in Batchtown November 9, 1896 the daughter of the late Carlton & Margaret (Nicholas) Twichell. She was a member of the Methodist church at Batchtown and a 50 year member of Grafton Order Eastern Star. Surviving are her husband, Harry, 2 sons, Harry R. Fulkerson, Grafton and William A. Fulkerson of Alton; and 2 brothers, Raymond and Oscar Twichell.
FULKERSON. Died 11-08-1973. Harry G. Fulkerson, 77, of Grafton, was dead on arrival August 11, at Good Samaritan hospital in Mt. Vernon. He had suffered a heart attack as he and Judge Howard L. White of Jerseyville were returning to the motel after attending a Shriners ceremonial in Mt. Vernon. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. James Rhea officiating. Interment was in Long cemetery, Belleview, Calhoun County. He was born July 22, 1896 in Belleview, a son of William & Mecia (Anderson) Fulkerson. His wife, Faye (Twichell) Fulkerson, preceded him in death. He was retired from the Illinois Department of Agriculture where he had worked for 28 years. He was a 50 year member of Hardin Lodge 792 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Ainad Temple, East St. Louis, a life member of the Directors’ Staff, Royal Order of Jesters, Jerseyville Lodge BPOE, and had served on the Grafton City Council. Surviving are 2 sons, William A. Fulkerson, Godfrey and Harry R. Fulkerson, Grafton; and Mrs. Hilda Jocelyn, a close friend who had assisted in his care since he had submitted to major surgery several months ago. Masonic services were held during visitation at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.
FULKERSON. Died 31-10-1909. Cornelia T. Fulkerson, 86, youngest daughter of the late Joseph & Jane ( Richards) Russell died October 31, 1909 at the home of her son-in-law, judge Charles S. White. She was born in Rogersville, Hawkins County, Tennessee, November 16, 1832. She graduated from Rogersville Female Academy, Salem College, and the Old Marvian School, Salem, North Carolina. she married W. H. Fulkerson on October 17, 1861 and in 1866 the family came to Illinois and settled on the farm north of Jerseyville. She was the mother of 5 children, 4 living; 2 sons, Joseph R. and Frank E.; 2 daughters, Frances R. and Mrs. Sarah B. White; also surviving are her husband and 3 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 1 son, James W., who died at 18; 1 sister, Sarah E. Powell; and 2 brothers. She liked to travel and visited much of this country including Canada and a few years ago, traveled over portions of Europe. She had felt hardships in the late Civil War, her home being the seat of the war. Her only brother, 2 were killed, one at Chickamauga, and the other at Brandy Station. Her home was at time headquarters for both armies, was penetrated by cannon balls during battles. She joined the Presbyterian church as a child and when coming to ill, she did not change her membership from her old home church, though she maintained her Christian character unto the day of her death. She had a high order of literary taste, reading took a wide range. Home was given to hospitality. She always helped the needy and cared little for the organized circles of society, but her home was her throne and she reigned with queenly modesty and dispensed blessings with a gentle hand. She knew the joy of doing good. In her cabinet can be found, now unfinished articles of needle work meant for her grandchildren at Christmas. FULKERSON. Died 12-01-1986. Esther L. Fulkerson, 84, of Wood River, died January 12 at Alton Memorial hospital. She was born in McClusky, daughter of the late Louis & Bertha (Laubscher) Siller. On June 15, 1921, she married Orlie Fulkerson in St. Louis. He survives. Also surviving are 3 sons, Aubrey Fulkerson of Wood River, Robert Fulkerson of Hamburg and Harold Fulkerson, Godfey; 3 grandchildren; and 1 g-grandchild. Visitation was – incomplete.
FULKERSON. Died 25-09-1968. First Lt. Roger Alan Fulkerson, 23, son of Mr. & Mrs. William H. Fulkerson, of Troy, New York, and grandson of Mr. & Mrs. Frank E. Fulkerson of Jerseyville, died September 25 of wounds received in combat in Vietnam. The body will be returned to the states and burial will be in Troy. Lt. Fulkerson served with the forward observer “C” Co., 2nd Batalion, 35th Inf., 4th Inf. Div. He was born June 19, 1945, and attended the US military academy at West Point where he was graduated with honors June 7, 1967. The young officer was a nephew of Mr. & Mrs. Howard M. Lurton of Dow. An uncle, Frank Fulkerson fr, was killed in service during WW II.
FULKERSON. Died 19-12-1976. Harry Roy Fulkerson, 50, of Grafton, died December 19 at his residence. A truck driver in the construction industry, he was born September 8, 1926, a son of Harry G. & Faye (Twichell) Fulkerson. He was a member of AF & AM Calhoun Lodge, Hardin, Teamsters Local #525 Construction Div. and was a veteran of WW II. Surviving are 1 brother, William of Godfrey and 1 uncle, Raymond twichell, Batchtown. Services were December 22 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Robert Patterson officiated and burial was in long cemetery, Belleview. Masonic services were held at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.
FULKERSON. Died 11-12-1968. Frank E. Fulkerson, 95, retired dean of Jersey County farmers and livestock raisers, died December 11 at Alton Memorial hospital. He had been a patient since November 6. Services were held at First United Presbyterian church, Jerseyville with Rev. M. Edwards Breed, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr. Fulkerson was 95 as June 5, 1968 and was the son of the late William H. & Cornelia (Russell) Fulkerson. He was born on the family homestead, Hazel Dell farm, north of Jerseyville. he resided there for 4 score and 15 years and had followed in the footsteps of his father in farming and livestock business until age forced his retirement. He married Charlotte (Lowe) Fulkerson on December 31, 1906 being married nearly 62 years. Surviving are his wife; 1 son, William H. Fulkerson of Troy, New York; 1 daughter, Mrs. Howard (Florence) Lurton, Dow; 6 grandchildren and 2 g-grandchildren. 1 son, and 1 grandson gave their lives in defense of their country. Frank E. Fulkerson, II, died in service in WW II, and his Grandson, Roger A. Fulkerson, died in action in Vietnam a few months ago. He was a charter member of Jersey County Farm Bureau. He had ben active in the work of First Presbyterian church where he had been a member since 1907. During those years he had served as trustee of the church from 192 3-1931, and elder from 1935-1943. For his work with the scouting movement the well known county resident had been given in lifetime membership in the Boy Scouts of America. He had participated in community affairs and had at times served as chairman of the Jersey County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
FULKERSON. Died 12-06-1977. Charlotte D. Fulkerson, 91, of Jerseyville, died June 12 at Jersey Community hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank E. who died December 11, 1968. Funeral services were held at First Presbyterian church on June 14. She was born June 22, 1885 in Jersey County, daughter of the late John W. & Elva (Darby) Lowe. She was the oldest member of First Presbyterian church, having joined January 6, 1896. She was a charter member of the Home Makers Extension. Surviving are 1 son, William H. Fulkerson of Troy, New York; 1 daughter, Mrs. Howard Lurton, Dow; and 1 sister, Mrs. J. Irving White, Jerseyville; 5 grandchildren and 9 g-grandchildren. visitation was at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to Jersey Community hospital.
FULKERSON. Died 18-04-1962. Joseph Russell Fulkerson, 92, died April 18, at Jersey Community hospital where he had been a patient for 5 days. Although approaching his 93rd birthday, Mr. Fulkerson, known throughout Illinois as “Uncle Joe” had continued active and the day before entering the hospital had participated in the Cattle Feeders Day at the U of I. Visitation was at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The service was held at First Presbyterian church officiated by Rev. M. Edwards Breed, pastor. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. He was the son of Col. William H. & Cornelia (Russell) Fulkerson and was born at Hazel Dell farm north of Jerseyville on August 16, 1869. His father was a Civil War cavalryman, pony express rider and widely known cattleman. Following his graduation from Jerseyville high school in 1890, he then attended Jones Commercial College.
FULKERSON. Died 1919. Col. William Houston Fulkerson, 85, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Chas S. White. Funeral from White home by Rev. W. S. Neeley. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. He was born September 9, 1834 in Clareborne County, Tennessee , of Virginia stock. He was grandson of revolutionary commander. Col. Fulkerson graduated from West Point Military Academy and then served as Col. in 63rd Tennessee and was wounded at Chickamauga. He returned to Tennessee at close of the war and found opportunities lacking. in 1886?, he moved to Jersey County and founded Hazel Dell stock farm, where he bred shorthorn cattle. He married Cornelia T. (Russell) Fulkerson at Rogersville, Tennessee, October 17, 1861. She died October 31, 1909. they were parents of 5 children, 3 of whom survive, Joseph R., Frank E. and Sarah B., wife of Judge White. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, a democrat who served 2 term as Judge of County Court, 2 terms as president of Illinois State Board of Agriculture, and member of the Board of Trustees of the U of I. he was generous and charitable to all. Was one of the organizers of First National Bank in 1876. Promoted St. Louis, Jerseyville and Springfield in 1881.
FULLER. Died 19-07-1980. Francis Grover Fuller, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene of a hit and run accident west of Hardin. Services were held at Hanks Funeral Home, Hardin. Rev. Udell Meyers officiated and burial was in Indian Creek cemetery. Born in Jerseyville, he was the son of Charles H. & Francis Leona (Seeman) Fuller of Hardin and was a senior at Calhoun high. Surviving are his parents, 2 sisters, Sheila Ayres, Dow and Melinda Branham, Jerseyville; and 1 brother John H. of Hardin.

FULLER. Died 26-11-1987. August F. “Gus” Fuller, 73, of Brighton, died November 26 at his home. He was born in Calhoun County, son of the late Jeff & Alice (Hayes) Fuller. On October 5, 1968, he married Geneva (Gotlob) Fuller and she survives. He had been employed as a maintenance laborer at Beverly Farm in Godfrey. Also surviving are 3 Daughters, Nila Brandon, Kane, Vera Pyle, Redford, Missouri and Dottye Graham, Louisana, Missouri; 2 sons, Jack Fuller of Joliet and Keith Fuller, Kane; 2 step daughters, Joan Morey, Shipman and Mary Lou Corby, Alton; 2 Stepsons, Ralph Edelen, Brighton and Frank Edelen, Chicago; 31 grandchildren; several g-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Dorothy Kraut, Hardin and Alice Haynes, Alton. He was preceded in death by 1 step daughter and several brothers and sisters. Visitation was at Targheatta Funeral Home, Brighton, where Hubbard Lodge #249 of Brighton conducted Masonic rites. Fuller was born in Calhoun County, son of the late Jeff & Alice Fuller. On September 1, 1926, he married Nellie (Bull) Fuller and she preceded him in death. Surviving are 2 sons, William Fuller, Des Moines, Iowa, and Ronald Fuller, Quincy; 1 daughter, Thelma Waples of Alexandria, Missouri; 5 grandchildren; several g-grandchildren; 2 brothers, William, Alton and August of Brighton; and 2 sisters, Dorothy Draut of Hardin and Alice Haynes, Alton. She was born October 11, 1894 in Jersey County, daughter of John & Lily Jeanetta (Dowdall) Cope and married Clifton Newton Fuller March 5, 1918 in Jerseyville. He died April 19, 1956. Surviving are 2 daughters, Mary Eppel, Alton and Dallas Hale, Godfrey; 5 grandchildren and 7 g-grandchildren; and her twin sisters, Edith white, Lamarque, Texas. He was born in Glasgow, Illinois, son of the late Conrad & Lena (Barrow) Fundel and worked in maintenance at Millers Mutual in Alton. FUNKE. Died 09-1894. Stephen Funke, 62, highly respected and wealthy farmer, died at his home last Sunday. Funeral was at Holy Ghost with Fr Marks serving assisted by Fr Sommers and Fr Metzler.
FURLONG. Died 03-01-1926. Mrs. Mary Furlong, 78, died at her home 6 miles east of Jerseyville on January 3. She leaves 2 daughters, Margaret and Catherine Furlong and 2 sons, John and Stephen of Jerseyville. Funeral from St. Francis church, Rev. J. J. Clancy. Burial was in St. Francis cemetery.
FUSER. Died 21-02-1973. Natalie C. Fuser, 82, wife of Martin R. Fuser, of Jerseyville, died February 21, at Garnet Chateau where she had been residing since suffering a hip fracture some time ago. She was a daughter of the late Edward W. & Justina (Greene) Culver and was born in Kane, March 20, 1890. Funeral services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. M. Edwards Breed, pastor of First Presbyterian church, Jerseyville, officiated and burial was in St. Francis cemetery. Visitation was at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Surviving are her husband, 1 daughter, Mrs. Paul (Culver) Kadell, Jerseyville; 3 step daughters, Mrs. Florence Kolb, Brighton, Mrs. Louis (Mabel) Kiernan, Chesterfield, Missouri and Mrs. Charles (Viola) Kotva, Edwardsville; and 1 sister, Mrs. George (Alfreda) Weeks of Detroit, Michigan, and 6 grandchildren. Mrs. Fuser was for a number of years as Clerk of the Jersey County Board of Review, and had served as a Deputy Circuit Clerk and Deputy Treasurer in Jersey County. She was a member of the past Matrons Club of the Order of Eastern Star and the Dr. Silas Hamilton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
