EADES. Mrs Daisy Mae Eades, 90 year, a resident of Wood River nearly all her life, died Monday at 1:25 P.M. in Eunice Smith Nursing Home where she had been a patient 9 months. She was born in Grafton, Oct 30, 1877 a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Highfill. She married Charles Melton Eades, May 31, 1897. Survivors are four daughters: Mrs. Kenneth Sweet, South Roxana, Mrs. Cleo Waters, Bethalto, Mrs. Leland Scoggins, Rosewood Heights and Mrs. Paul Resi, St Clair, MO, a sister, Mrs. Clifford Ferguson, Roxana, 19 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren. Proceeded in death by husband and a daughter, Mrs. Frances Gilbert, a son Bern Wesley, a grandson, Charles Hosbach and three brothers and three sisters. Funeral from Marks Mortuary, Rev. Jack Adams. Burial Meadow Branch Cemetery near Grafton.
EADES. Vernon Eades. 39 of Wood River, Il died at St. Joseph’s Hospital while funeral services were being held for his father, Charles Milton Eades. Charles died while at work at Standard Oil Co. Vernon born Nov 19, 1902 at Kane came to Wood River with his parents. Leaves widow Mildred, two daughters, his mother, Mrs. Daisy Eades, four sisters, Mrs. Helen Sweet and Mrs. Dorthy Gerdt. East Alton Mrs Margaret Scoggins of Rosewood Heights, Mrs Winnie Waters of Godfrey and two brothers, Quentin Eades and Willard of Whiting, Ind. He was a member of a family that had been prominent in Camelville, Ky for many years. It was a Camelville where his father was born. One of his ancestors, Paton Camel was founder of Camelville. Services for Charles Milton Eades were held at United Brethren Church of Wood River. Burial in Meadow Branch Cemetery near Graton. Pallbearers were: Ralph Bilderbeck, James Jackson, Raymond Todd, George Teasley, Albert Seynhoven and Herman Oetting. Vernon Eades was buried in Meadow Branch aldo.
EADS. Died at Fieldon, Jersey County, Mrs. Caltha Eads, wife of James A. Eads, 59 years.
EADS. The funeral of Clarinda G. Eads. 76, of 109 Roberts St, Jerseyville was conducted Monday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville by the Rev. V. Caly Noah. Burial was in Providence Cemetery near Carrollton. Her death occurred at 8:20 p.m. June 10 at St Anthony’s Hospital in Alton. A retired school teacher in School District 100, she was born Jan 11, 1906 in Greenfield, a daughter of the late Francis and Nettie Ann Stevens Varble. She was a member of the Jerseyville Business and Professional Women’s Club. Her survivors are four sons, Kenneth of Medora, Keith of Kane, Leslie of Jerseyville and Roger of Norman; one daughter, Evelyn Cowfal of Beardstown; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Varble of Indianapolis, Ind and Francis Varble of Carrollton and a sister Minerva Ashford of Carlinville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie K. Eads who died in may 1979, one daughter and one son. The American Cancer Society has been named as a memorial.
EAGAN. Miss Bridget Eagan, who marked her ninety-fifth birthday anniversary on Oct 14, died Sunday morning, Oct 18 at 12:30 at St Josephs Hospital in Alton where she had been a patient for 2 days. Miss Eagan, who was residing at the Watson Nursing Home in Jerseyville, was stricken ill on her birthday anniversary Wednesday and was removed to the hospital on Friday. The decedent was a daughter of the late Edmund and Bridget Dugan Eagan and was born in Springfield, Il on Oct 14, 1858. For many years Miss Eagan was a resident of Grafton. Her only survivor is a niece. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning Oct 20, at 9:30 at St Francis Xavier Church. Requiem Mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Thomas Gorman and burial was in Scenic Hill Cemetery at Grafton.
EAGAN. L.D. Eagan, whose avocation was writing poetry, died Friday at his home. He was 87 Years old. Was son of Edmund and Bridget Dugan Eagan, natives of Ireland. Was born in Sangamon Co, Aug 10, 1864. When 6 years old, the family moved to Jersey County where his father had bought a farm five miles nw of Grafton. Educated in Jerseyschools and early in life developed a love of literature. through his long life he wrote poems and many of them appeared in newspapers. Some of the legends of the Grafton vicinity were included in verse written by him. His last poem was composed on Valentine’s Day. He brought a copy of it to the business district and showed it to friends. For many years he resided in Alton-Godfrey area. Frequent contributor to the Telegraph. Usually written in swinging meter. Also wrote lyrics for two songs that were published. By his frequent writing, he achieved near-perfection in penmanship. His script was in the round, curling style of a former era, and had a kind of artistic beauty. Leaves daughter, Mrs. Madge Shea of Jerseyville, a sister, Miss Bridget Eagan, 93 who is at Waton Nursing Home. 3 grandchildren. Funeral from St. Francis Church with Rev. Jaohn J. Clancy. Burial in church cemetery.
EAGAN. Thomas Eagan died at his home in Grafton Feb2, 1912. 55 years old. Funeral from St. Patrick’s Church. Rev. Father A. Schockert.
EAGLETON. Services were held at Hanks Funeral Home in Hardin for Benjamin Pierce Eagleton, 89, of Altoon, Fla., a former East Hardin resident, who died March 22 in a Eustis, Fla. hospital. Eagleton was a commissioner for the Nutwood Drainage Dist of 25 years and in the early 30’s had served on the Jersey County Board of Supervisors and aalso as chairman. He formerly owned three laundromats, two in Jerseyville and one at East Hardin. He also owned five farms in Greene County which he later sold locally. At one time he was appointed farm manager at Alton State Hospital and had received a citation for getting the food prices for meals down. Born in Enfield, son of the late Leander and Minnie Pierce Eagleton, he married the former Margaret Monier and she survives. Besides his wife, surviving are a daughter, Ellen Zumwalt of Lincoln, Neb; two sons, Edward Lee of Paducah, Ky and Benkamin, Jr. of Benton; four grandchildren and a brother, Clifford of Fieldon. Burial was at Alton Cemetery. The Presbyterian Church of Hardin had been suggested as a memorial.
EAGLETON. Judge L.O. Eagleton of Peoria, an extensive landowner in Jersey County, died Monday, April 4, at 2:30 p.m. at the Montreat Nursing Home in Hardin where he had been a patient since last July. Friends called at the C.C. Hanks Funeral Home in Hardin and the body was moved Wednesday to Slugston Funeral Home where funeral rites arebeing held today, Thursday. Interment will be in Peoria. Judge Eagleton, a retired attorney, had practiced law in Peoria for 50 years and was a former Probate Judge there. He was 87 years old. Mr. Eagleton, who had also served as Master-in-Chancery of the Federal Court under Judge Fitzhenry, retired at the age of 75. He had spent the past few years looking after his farming interests in the Nutwood and Fieldon vicinities. The decedent was born in Jasper Co on Feb 22, 1868 a son of the late William and Sarah Kern Eagleton. His wife, the former Minnie Pierce preceded him in death. Judge Eagleton was graduated from McKendree College and Northwestern University Law School in 1897. Surviving Judge Eagleton are three sons, Benjamin P. Eagleton and Supervisor Clifford Eagleton of the Fieldon vicinity and Captain William L. Eagleton of the U.S. Navy who is stationed at Newport, R.I. where he is head of the School of Naval Justice. The aged man also leaves 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son L.O. Eagleton, Jr.
EAGLETON. Lois Ann Eagleton, twenty month old baby of Supervisor and Mrs. Clifford Eagleton of Rosedale Township, died at four thirty-two Tuesday afternoon, April 11, at the Memorial Hospital in Alton where she had been a patient for the past four weeks. In addition to her parents Lois Ann is survived by three brothers, Wlifford, William and Lee, three sisters, Dian Lee, Maryly and Mary and her paternal grandparents, Judge and Mrs. L.O. Eagleton of Peoria. Funeral services were held at Christ Evangelical and Reform Church in Fieldon Thursday April 13 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Edward H. Fresen officiating. Interment was in the Fieldon Cemetery.
EAGLETON. Services for William L. Eagleton, 81, of 837 N. Cooper, Peoria will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Feb 16 at the First Baptist Church in Peoria with burial there. His death occurred Feb. 14. Mr. Eagleton was well-known in this area where he has owned land in Richwood and Quarry Townships since the 1930’s. His parents were the late Judge and Mrs. L.O. Eagleton. He is survived by his wife, the former Louise Chandler; three sons, 13 grandchildren and two brothers, Cliff Eagleton of Fieldon and Ben of Leesburg, Fla.
EAKES. Milbern K. Eakes. 71, died at 9:12 p.m. Monday Dec 23, 1991 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. He retired in 1982 from Jersey Community Unit School District 100 after 32 years of service. Born in Kenton, Tenn on Aug 19, 1920 he was a son of the late Lee and Ethel Crosnole Eakes. On Aug 23, 1941 he in Sikeston, Mo he married the former Opal Ferguson. Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Patricia Loy and Belinda Woolsey both of Delhi and Shelia Sevier of Godfrey, a son Raymond Eakes of Alton; 5 grandchildren a great-grandchild; a sister Mary Lou Duty and a brother Willie Frank Eakes, both of Chicago. Preceding him in death were three sisters, Tobbie Rieley, Vera Thomas and Dorothy King; and two brothers, Raymond and J.W. Eakes. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services are at 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Earl Clagg will officiate. Burial is in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to the Delhi Baptist Church.

EARL. Mrs. Eliza Earl, wife of Samuel Earl died in this city (Jerseyville) July 20. 38 years old. Funeral from Methodist Church July 22. Rev. N. Crow. Buried in East Newburn Cemetery. Leaves husband and six children. Born near Lexington, Mo. and came to Jerseyville with her parents when a child. A funeral mass was held at 10a.m. for Mary Frances Aug 20 for Mary Frances Earley, 79, of St Louis, with Rev. Father William Hembrow celebrant. Burial was at St Francis Cemetery. Mrs. Early was born Oct 30, 1906 in Jersey County, daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Conors Fleming. she married Peter Earley on Nov. 26, 1942.She died Aug 17 at St John’s Mercy Hospital in t Louis. Surviving are her Husband Peter Earley, whom she married on Nov 26, 1942 in Hardin and one sister, Elizabeth Fleming of Jerseyville. The memorial is Masses. Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
EARLY. Funeral rites for Mrs. Grace Josephine Early, widow of Ralph Early, were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Bowling of Alton officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. The death of Mrs. Early occurred Thursday afternoon, Oct 14 at Blu Fountain Manor at Godfrey. Funeral services were held at the Gubser Funeral Home Sunday afternoon, Nov 8 at 2 p.m. for Retha Marie Early small daughter of Ralph and Grace Kendall Early who died at the family home at 507 Leavett Street in Jerseyville early Friday morning, Nov 6. Rev. L. Simmons of Alton officiated and interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.Retha Marie was born in Carrollton, Mar 22, 1951 and her age at the time of death was two years, seven months and fourteen days. She had been in frail health since birth. The little girl is survived by her parents; one sister, Ruth Ann Early; a half-brother, Jack Chester of Jerseyville and her grandparents Mr and Mrs Harry Kendall of Manchester and Mrs William Avery of Alton.

Clinton East, 85, of DeKalb, formerly of Jerseyville, died Nov 24, 1988, in DeKalb. a retired farmer, he was born in Greene Co., son of the late George and Lillie Gier East. surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy Graham; a daughter Mary Krupp of DeKalb, two grandsons and two brothers, Clay East of Youngstown, Ariz and Dennis of Jerseyville. Three brothers proceeded him in death. A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at St. Mary’s Church in Tampico. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church where East had been a member. Allen-Schmitt-Garland Funeral Home of Tampico was in charge of arrangements.
EAST. Fred East, 78, retired farmer of the McClusky area, died at 9:20 a.m. Mar 26 at Greenwood Manor in Jerseyville. East was born in Jersey County Aug 6, 1904, the son of the late George and Lillie Gier East. He was a dairy farmer for 28 years, retiring in 1955. He married Margaret Best, June 17, 1936 in Hannibal, Mo. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Margaret Ann Coffman of Jerseyville, Martha Jean Parish of Daow and Carol Kaye Ctner of Great Falls, Mont. ; eight grandchildren and three brothers, Clinton of Tampico., Dennis (Dade) , Jerseyville and Caly, Godfrey. He was proceeded in death by two brothers. Visitation was the Gubser Funeral Home from 4-9 p.m. Monday, March 28. Funeral services are at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Mar 29 at Gubser’s with Rev. Wayne Pendleton of the First Assembly of God Church and Rev. Dale Best officiating. Burialwas in Oak Grove Cemetery. The First Assembly of God Church building fund has been named as a memorial
EAST. Mrs Jane East died at the home of her son, Charles East, 5 miles nw of Jerseyville. Age 63 years. Funeral from CP Church at Fieldon by Rev. Belt.
EAST. Many relatives and friends attended the funeral of Mrs. George East which was held Sunday afternoon at the country home four and one-half miles south of Jerseyville, where her death occurred on Jan 5 after a brief illness with pneumonia. Services were in charge of Rev. G. C. Kirchner and Rev. A. W. Kortkamp of Alton, ministers of the Pentecostal denomination, and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. A Pentecostal quartette from Alton sang several musical numbers. Many beautiful floral offerings were received, expressive of the love and respect in which Mrs. East was held by relatives and friends. She was a lady of beautiful Christian character, a loving wife and mother and a kind neighbor and friend, and her passing is mourned by the entire community in which she lived. Mrs East was in her 59th year. She is survived by her husband and six sons, Leonard, Parker, Clinton, Fred, Dennis and Clay East. Three surviving sisters are Mrs. Catherine Freer of Alton, Miss Annie Gier of Greene County and Mrs Lenora Ashford of Jerseyville. The surviving brothers are Bert Gier of Greene Co and George Gier of Greenville, Mo.
EAST. Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle N. East, 76, of R.R. 1 Grafton were held Saturday morning, June 8 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home, Grafton, with the Rev. Bob Kimber officiating. Burial was in Scenic Hill Cemetery. Mrs. East apparently drowned on June 5 in the flooded basement at the home of Clarence Benhoff where she was employed as housekeeper. An inquest is pending. She was born Feb 17, 1898 in Manilla, Ohio a daughter of Mr and Mrs Benjamin Meisel. Her husband, Ed East, died in 1944. She had been housekeeper for Benhoff in Grafton for years. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs Morris(Vietta) Ford of Gutherie Center, Iowa; one sister, Ola Ress of Manning, Iowa and two brothers, Roy Meisel of Indianola, Iowa and John Meisel of Coon Rapids, Iowa. Visitation was held at Jacoby Funeral Home in Grafton.
EAST. Vernon Parker East, 54, of Tallahassee, Fla, formerly of Jerseyville, died Jan 10 at the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. He was born July 10, 1923 in Illinois the son of Parker and Ruby Vanausdoll East. He was a veteran of World War 2 and was a ballistics technician for Olin Munitions Plant. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Tallahassee. He married Rosalie Narup, and she survives, as well as two daughters, Mrs Janice Rimby, Rockbridge and Judy Russell, Jerseyville; a son Jeff East of Tallahassee; three grandchildren, a brother, William East of Jerseyville, two sisters Mrs Marjorie Love of Lakeside, Calif. and Mrs Dorothy Cope of Jerseyville. Funeral mass will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Jan 13 at St Mary’s Westwoods, Father Michael P. Henehan, celebrant. Burial will be in St Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home from 4-9 p.m. today (Thursday) The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.
EASTERLY. Annie Easterly, 80, of Jerseyville, died July 10 at White Hall Hospital. She was born Nov 27, 1905 in St Louis to Dan and Mary Brave. She married Frederick David Easterly on April25, 1926 in Granite City. He preceded her in death. she was a 25-year resident of Stark’s Boarding Home in Jerseyville. The funeral was July 12 at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial was in the Grimes-Neely Cemetery.
EASTHAM. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Jan 9 from Gubser Funeral Home for Arthur (Jack) Eastham of 425 Barr Ave., Jerseyville. His death occurred Jan 6 at 12:45 p.m. at Jersey Community Hospital. Re. James Pepper and Rev. Kenneth Workman officiated. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. He was born Aug 1, 1886 in fidelity a son of Erwin and Emma Rodell Eastham. His survivors are his wife, Elsie; a son, Bob of Alton; one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Theresa) Rodgers of Cottage Hills; a sister Mrs. Otto Davenport of Jerseyville, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren. Visitation was held at Gubser Funeral Home.
EASTHAM. Elsie Marie Eastham, 87, died at 7:20 p.m. Thursday, Oct 24, 1991 at Jersey Community Hospital. Born in Jersey Co on June 21, 1904, she was a daughter of the late John and Susan Emmons Elliott, Sr. She married Arthur (Jack) Eastman on June 26, 1928 in Jerseyville. He died Jan 6, 1974. Surviving are a daughter Theresa M. Rodgers of Cottage Hills, a son Robert Lee Eastham of Alton, nine grandchildren 21 great grandchildren two great-great-grandchildren and two sisters, Nellie Wagonblast of Jerseyville and Irene Lung of Rushville. Visitation is from 5-9 p.m. Sunday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services are at 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Simon A. Simon will officiate. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
EASTHAM. Funeral services for Harry Wesley Eastham, retired carpenter of Jerseyville, were held Sunday afternoon, Sept 22, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home at half past three o’clock. Rev. James E. Pepper, pastor of the Bible Baptist Church officiated at eh services and burial was in Oakland Cemetery at Fidelity. Visitation hours were held at the funeral home. The death of Mr. Eastham occurred Thursday evening at 6:10 p.m. at Garnet’s Chateau where he had been residing in recent weeks. He had been in failing health for sometime. Mr. Eastham was a son of the late Urban K. and Emily Rodell Eastham and was born at Fidelity on Aug 9, 1897. He had marked his 71st birthday last month. Surviving him are one brother, Arthur Eastham and one sister, Mrs Otto (Verna)Davenport and six stepchildren. His wife, Mae Eastham preceded him in death.
EASTHAM. Verna Davenport of Carrollton has received word of the death of her nephew, Hollis Eastham of N. 3391 Brett, Decatur, who was a Jerseyville resident before moving to Decatur. He was the son of Charles and Florence Corzine Eastham and is survived by his wife and two daughters. Services and burial were in Decatur.
EASTMAN. Funeral rites for Miss Anna Eastman, 82, were conducted by Rev. Edward E. Souders at the residence last Wednesday afternoon and interment was in the Hartford Cemetery west of Grafton. Miss Eastman, member of a pioneer Grafton family, died at her home on Sunday. She was the eldest daughter of Henry and Anna Caslick Eastman, and was born Nov 21, 1867 at Grafton. She is survived by two sisters, Misses Mary and Addie Eastman, with whom she made her home. Vocal selections were by Miss Lora Freiman and Benjamin Sauerwein accompanied by Miss Freiman. The pallbearers were George and Ed Larby, Martin Arnold, George Brainerd, Wesley Legate of Grafton andHarmon Davidson of the Salem vicinity. The floral tributes were carried by Miss Frda Freiman, Mrs Alma Amburg, Mrs Stella Orr and Mrs Ora Brainerd of Grafton and Mrs Freda Rippley of Alton.
EASTMAN. Miss Daisy Eastman died at her home in Grafton on Friday morning July 1 at 7:00 a.m. The deceased was aged 52 years, 3 months and 20 days. Funeral services were held Sunday morning at 10:00 in Grafton, with Rev. Struebing officiating. Interment was in the Grafton Cemetery Miss Eastman was member of an old and well-known Grafton family. She had been in failing health for several months, yet her death came as a shock to her many friends. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Eastman and had spent her entire life in Graton. She is survived by one brother, John N. Eastman and 3 sisters, the Misses Anna, Margaret(Mary) and Addie Eastman all of Grafton.
EASTMAN. Henry Eastman died on Sunday of winter fever. Buried Tuesday with Masonic honors, the largest procession following that has been seen in Grafton for years. Mr Reeves, partner of the deceased will take charge of the store for the present.
EASTMAN. Funeral of John N. Eastman prominent merchant of Grafton, who died last Friday at the Mayo Bros Hospital in Rochester, Minn. was held Tuesday Nov 27 at his home in Grafton. Born in Grafton, Mar 24, 1866, the son of Mr and Mrs Henry Eastman and had spent his entire life in Grafton. He married Miss Lillie Plummer in Hardin, Il who with one daughter survives. Daughter Vera. He married June 1896. Vera is now Mrs Laurence Warner. Two grandchildren of Beloit Wis, three sisters Misses Anna, Mary and Addie of Grafton. He was a member of Full Moon Lodge, Riverside Camp, MWA, Grafton Chapter OES and Grafton Chamber of Commerce. Funeral by Rev. Marion Jackson of Louisville, Ill close friend of the deceased and former Grafton pastor. Paul Hamilton of Jerseyville has Masonic services. Burial in Hartford cemetery.
EASTMAN. Mrs Lillie M. Eastman, 84, widow of John Eastman, former prominent Grafton businessman, died Thursday at Plymouth Place, LaGrange, Il where a daughter, Mrs. Laurence P. Warner, resides. Surviving in addition to her daughter are three grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The body will be brought to Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home early Saturday morning. EASTMAN. Miss Mary E. Eastman, 89 the last of an old and prominent Grafton family died at 2:10 p.m. Saturday in St Anthony’s Hospital where she had been for several years. A daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Henry Eastman, she was born in Grafton May 29, 1872. Her only survivors are nieces. The body is at Gubser Funeral Home where rites will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Kenneth Taylor of Grafton. Burial will be in Hartford Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today.
EASTMAN. Velma Eastman was a teacher of Room 2 in the Grafton School. She became ill and had fever for four days. Funeral from her home in Grafton and buried in Hartford Cemetery.
EASTON. Mrs Lena Mae Easton of Grafton, nee Dowdal, died Sept 12. 43 years. Born near Jerseyville in 1872 and leaves husband, Frederick Easton, four children, mother, four sisters and three brothers. Funeral by Rev. C. Kirchner from Grafton Baptist Church.
EATON. Catherine Root Eaton 67 year. Wife of C. B. Eaton, Esq and mother of Mrs. A. H. Barret, Mr G.M. Eaton, Frank S. Eaton and Charles B. Eaton, Jr. of jersey and Mrs. D. J. Slaten and Mrs James Allen of Grafton. Born in Phelps, Ontario Co, NY 3 May 1817. Married C.B. Eaton on Aug 6, 1828. Moved in 1857 to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1864 moved to Grafton, Il from there to Jersey. Episcopal Church. Rev. W.T. Whitmarsh of Litchfield. Buried in Cincinnati.
EATON. Charles B. Eaton died at the residence of James Allen, Thursday April 13 aged 78 years 4 months and 25 days. Mr Eaton was born in North Hampton Mass. in 1817 and came west in 1864. He located in this county and during his long residence here, made many warm friends. For several years past he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. James Allen, and in his declining years enjoyed a quiet and peaceful life. His remains were taken to Cincinnati for interment and were accompanied on their last journey by his son, George Eaton of Jerseyville.
EATON. Mrs. Joanna Eaton died Nov 2 at the home of George Smith three miles east of Kane. Born in Rowan Co., NC about the year 1790, moved soon after her marriage to Jersey Co and settled on a farm where she resided for nearly 50 years. Paralyzed in spring of 1818. Member of ME Church and as no sufficient announcement had been made the attendance at grave was small.
EBBELER. Mrs Emma Ebbeler 86, died Thursday, Dec 16 at the home of her son-in-law and daughter Mr and Mrs John Jones in Brighton. Her death was the third in her immediate family within less than a week. Ason, Otto Ebbelerof Brighton died Dec 10 and a brother, Henry Brummer died Dec 12. Mrs Ebbeler was born Nov 13, 1868 in Jersey County. She was a daughter of the late Henry and Henrietta Kroft Brummer. The aged woman had made her home with her son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. John Jones since the death of her husband, Edward Ebbeler, in 1946. She had been in failing health for three years and was seriously ill for four months. Surviving in addition to her daughter are a sister, Mrs Martha Meisenheimer of Alton and a granddaughter, Emma Ellen Ebbeler. In addition to her husband, son Otto and brother Henry, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Henrietta and Laura and a son Arnold. Mrs Ebbeler was a member of the Brighton Evangelical and Reform Church and final rites were held Sunday afternoon Dec 19 at the church. The pastor A.L. Schieler officiated and interment was in the Brighton Cemetery.
EBBLER. Janette Ebbler, 45, died at 9:50 p.m. Saturday at her home after a lengthy illness. She was an assistant lab technician at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville for over 10 years, and on Feb 11,1980 married James W. Ebbler, who survives. She was born in Mississippi a daughter of Alvin Allgood of Batesville, Miss and Annie (Turner) Allgod of Jerseyville. In addition to her parents and husband, surviving are three sons, Wayne, Randy, and Donald Hill, all of Jerseyville; one step-son, Allen Ebbler of Alton; three stepdaughters, Tamara Wilson of Brighton, Karen Malson of Alton and Christina Ebbler of Jerseyville, Two grandchildren, three step grandchildren; one brother W.A. Allgood of Batesville, Miss and three sisters, Martha Faye Wimberly of Clarksville, Miss, Patricia Jolly of Palestine, Texas and Betty Diuguid of Godfrey. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Gilbert Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Bethany Baptist Church of Godfrey is suggested as a memorial.

EBKER. Final services for Henry L. Ebker, 77, of Fieldon were held Monday afternoon, Dec 9 at Gubser Funeral Home with the Rev. William Smith officiating. His death occurred at 1:45 a.m. on Dec 7 at the Jersey Care Center. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. A retired farmer, he was born Feb 17, 1897 in Drake, MO, the son of the late Phillip and Sophie Bebelsick Ebker. Mr Ebker was a World War I veteran. His survivors are his wife of 53 years, Cecile Norwood Ebker; three sons, William W. of Jerseyville, Phillip S. of Livermore Calif., and Henry Eugene of New York, NY; three sisters, Katie Noonan of Delton, Mich; Tillie Hasemann of Decatur and Emily Hoffmeyer of San Bruno, Calif. and 5 grandchildren.
EBY. Mrs Lucy K. Eby, 84, widow of William Eby, died at 1 a.m. Wednesday in Boyd Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient for a few days. Mrs Eby was the former Lucy Shaw and her marriage to Mr Eby took place in March 1894. He preceded her in death Dec 22, 1985. Surviving are two sons, Flyd of Cottage Hills and Charles of Bethal to, five daughters, Mrs Nellie Chofiled and Mrs Elon Varble, Carrollton; Mrs Martha Anderson and Mrs Mary Vroman of East Alton and Mrs Daisy Russell of Alton, and a brother Henry Shaw of Carrollton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Simpson Funeral Home and interment will be in Carrollton city cemetery.
ECK. Mrs Catherine E. Eck, wife of Fred W. Eck of 409 Linden Street in Jerseyville, died at 2:30 Friday afternoon, Nov 16, at the Jersey Community Hospital where she had been moved for medical treatment after becoming ill Thursday morning. The funeral was held from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home to the Church of the Holy Ghost Monday morning, Nov 19 at 9:30. Requiem Mass was celebrated by Father Paul P. Heinen and interment was in St Francis Cemetery. Mrs Eck was born in Jersey Co, May 16, 1884, a daughter of the late Edward and Hattie Gaffney Ring. Her age at the time of death was 72 years, and 6 months. The deceased is survived by her husband Fred W. Eck; one son, Edward J Eck of Monroe, Mich; one daughter, Mrs D.E. Mehrhoff of Tucson, Ariz; two grandchildren; three sisters, Rose French of Jerseyville, Mrs George Reher of University City, Mo and Mrs Maurita Hippler of Detroit, Mich, and four brothers, David Romg and Edward Ring of Detroit and August and Charles Ring of Birmingham, Mich.
ECKHARD. The funeral of Miss Mary Eckhard, formerly of this city, who died in Springfield was held Thursday morning, April 20, at 10 o’clock from St Mary’s Church in Alton. A brother of the deceased, Rev. E. J. Eckhard was the celebrant of the Solemn Requiem Mass with Rev. Charles Schneider of Minot, N. D. as deacon, and the Rev. Louis Hufker of Springfield as sub-deacon; Rev George E. Dreher of St Louis, Mo was master of ceremonies. Sermon was by Rev Joseph Meckel, rector of St Mary’s Church, Alton. In the sanctuary were Rev. Joseph Meckel, H.B. Schnelton, George E. Faller, M.A. Tarrent, P.J. Smyth, James R. Maloney, Francis B. Kehoe, Daniel F. Daly, P. J. Malloy and R. F. Heinzmann all of Alton; Aanton Wieneke of Marine; L.J. Kipping of Venice; F. A. Marks of Collinsville; J.J. Clancy and J.H. Gramke of this city. Friends from Jerseyville who attended were Mr and Mrs. Marmaduke Fox, Miss Beatrice Bertman, John Tonsor, and Miss Minnie Tonsor, Josephine Schmeider and daughter, Margaret, Mrs John Kuebrich, Mrs Elizabeth Dorsett and daughter Miss Emma Dorsett. Interment was in St Joseph’s Cemetery.
EDGAR. Dr. C.A. Edgar, well-known to the older residents of Jerseyville, died at home at El Dorado Springs, Mo, Nov 4, 1911. Dr Edgar was in the drug business at Jerseyville in 1863-4. In 1885 moved to El Dorodo where he has since resided in the practice of his profession. Leaves wife, two children, two brothers, George and W.H. Edgar. he was 65 years of age.
EDGAR. Col. W. H. Edgar died at his home in Chicago, Friday Dec 14, 1917. He was born in Illinois on the 10th of Sept 1840, making him 77 years, 3 months and 4 days. In his 21st year he graduated from the Illinois College at Jacksonville and soon enlisted in the 53rd Illinois Infantry. He read law at Aurora, Il and was admitted to the bar in 1863. In 1869 he came to Jerseyville and purchased the Jerseyville Republican. In 1876 he was made a colonel on the staff of Gov. Cullom. He was always active in Republican politics and ran for Congress in this district against General Singleton of Quincy, but the district being overwhelmingly Democrat he was defeated. While here Col Edgar was always interested in the upbuilding of Jerseyville and was on the school board many years, in which he took great interest. He was appointed postmaster of Jerseyville by President Arthur in 1882 and held that position for one term, when he was succeeded by Hon H.O. Goodrich who was appointed by President Cleveland. Col Edgar was well and favorably known in Jerseyville and throughout Jersey County. He was a brilliant scholar, a splendid writer, especially upon political topics and was what would be termed one of the leaders of the Republican party in this section. Col Edgar was married to Mary Davis who survives him. They moved to Chicago a number of years ago where they have since resided. Col Edgar leaves a great many friends throughout Jersey County among the old residents who knew him so well, and he was of genial, happy, disposition therefore, well liked. The remains were brought to Jerseyville Monday morning and the funeral was held from the residence of Elais Cockrell, South State Street at 2 oclock Monday afternoon, Re. Neely officiating. The burial was in Oak Grove mausoleum. The house was filled with old friends of Col Edgar and the floral offerings were beautiful. Pallbearers were Jett Kirby, S.H. Bowman, Mr. A. Warren, L.M. Cutting and Edward Cross. The remains were accompanied to Jerseyville by Mrs Edgar and her daughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs Charles Bowman of Chicago who left for their home Tuesday, stopping enroute in Louisiana, Mo to visit Col Edgar’s sister who was unable, because of illness, to come to Jerseyville for the funeral.
EDMUNDS. David Wayne Edmunds, 16, son of Gerald W. Edmunds of 130 Reno, East Alton, died June 28 from injuries suffered when he fell 75 feet while mountain climbing with a companion during a family vacation at Niagara Falls. The accident occurred June 23; he had never regained consciousness. He died in a hospital in Beaumont Township, Quebec Province. David was the grandson of Mrs Paul (Virginia) Berthoux of Jerseyville. His mother is the former Doris Berthoux. He was born in Alton on April 26, 1959. David had recently received ” Outstanding Scout” in the area. A student of Alton High School, he was an Eagle Scout with Troop 57, Explored Post 7. He was a member of the Main Street Methodist Church and active in youth work. In addition to his parents he is survived by a sister, Paula Jill, at home; grandparents, Mr and Mrs Sherwood Edmunds of New Haven and Mrs. Berthoux; and a great grandmother, Mrs Nedis Stevens, alsoof New Haven. Final services will be held at one o’clock this afternoon, July 3 at the Smith Funeral Home in Alton with the Rev. Ira Thedford officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. The General Research Fund for Ophthalmology at Washington University, 660 S. Euclid, St Louis has been named as a memorial.
EDSALL. A former resident, Allen Laverne Edsall, 83 of Warren, Mich died in his sleep Sunday morning, Dec 3 after an illness of several months. He was born in Otterville Mar 23, 1895. In November of 1919 he married the former Ethel Hart of Warren, Mich who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs Loris Kerekes of Warren, Mrs Maxine Spetnagle of Ohio, one son, Richard Edsall of Montana; 11 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren; a niece, Mary Moses of Jerseyville and a nephew, Darrell Moses of East Alton. A sister and one brother preceded him in death. Private funeral services were held in Warren Dec 6, with burial in the same city.

EDSALL. Clyde Hillman Edsall, 79, of R.R.2 Jerseyville died at 11:45 p.m. Jan 9 at Jefferson Barracks Veterans Hospital in St Louis, Mo. He was born Oct 1, 1897 in Otterville, the son of Richard and Millie Vanausdoll Edsall. He served in the military from Sept of 1941 to March of 1943. He was a retired carpenter. He is survived by one sister, Mrs Leroy (Frelove) Moses of Jerseyville, one brother Allen Edsall of Warren, Mich; three nieces, Mrs Loris Kerekes, Romulus, Mich, Mrs Maxine Stepnagel, Columbus, Ohio and Miss Mary Moses of Jerseyville, and three nephews, Richard G. Edsall of Hungrey Horse, Mont, Darrell Moses of East Alton and Charles Moses of Jerseyville. Funeral services were held at Gubser’s Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. Thursday Jan 13 with the Rev. James Pepper officiating. Interment was in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey.
EDSALL. Corydon Perry Edsall, 60 years, died at home in Woodburn, Il Feb 24. Funeral from home. Rev. E.J. Burgess of Woodburn. Son of William and Lydie Edsall was born two miles north of Grafton June 6,1851. Married Katheine M. Schafer, April 6, 1879. Children and wife survive: Harry of Bunker Hill, George of East St Louis, Andrew and Arthur of Wood River, Albert of Woodburn; three daughters: Mrs Edith Dyke of Hillsboro, Il, Misses Lorena and Freda Edsall of Woodburn. He was graduate of Champaign U. Class of 1873. Taught school in Jersey and Calhoun Co. Editor of Grafton News in 1885. Brother of Harvey and Thomas Edsall of Grafton and spent part of his early life in Grafton.
EDSALL. Frank Edsall a well-known young farmer of Upper Alton, died Friday at 5:30 p.m., age 37 years. Death was the result of a kick in the stomach by his family horse. Sice a fews weeks he had been treating the injured foot of the animal. Thursday morning after currying, he tried to get a hold of the leg, when the horse kicked viciously. The victim asserted from the start; “I am badly hurt.” although the attending physician could not locate and serious injury. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. W.I. Terhune officiating. He is survived by the 73 year old father, Peter Edsall, four brothers, Thomas, Harry, Richard and Arthur Edsall, and one sister Mrs George Nulsen of Amboy, IL.
EDSALL. Peter Smith Edsall, 87 years, former Jersey County resident born in Hamburg, NJ and came to Jersey County 45 years ago, farmed near Elsah. Leaves widow, Mrs. Mary Edsall to whom he was married 20 years ago after the death of his first wife. One daughter and four sons of the first union also survive.
EDSALL. Mrs Zola C. Edsall, 80 years of Burnham St. Las Vegas, Nev. for the past seven years and former resident of 920 Alton St, Alton died at Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital, Las Vegas. Born in Grafton Sept 26, 1889, daughter of the late Charles Stafford was a member of the First Congregational Church, Married Nov 6, 1909 in St Louis to Thomas J. Edsall who survives. A son Webb Edsall of Las Vegas, five grandchildren; a sister, Mrs Abbie Legate of Alton. Preceded by son, four brothers and three sisters. Gent Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Robert C. Kemper. EDSALL. Mrs Mary M. Edsall-Ellis of Elsah died May 29, 79 years. Member of Elsah Unio, Rebeka Degree of the IOOF and ME Church. Our village was made a better place in which to live because of her life here. Her place will be hard to fill.
EDWARDS. Anna Mae Edwards, 68, of Jerseyville died Dec 10 at her residence. She was born June 1, 1920 in Jerseyville to the late Pear S. and Minnie M. Carter Dabbs. On June 29, 1963, in Alton, she married the late Joseph W. Edwards, Jr. he died Dec. 2, 1982. She was a homemaker. She was a Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star Lodge 656 Jerseyville; VIM member, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 492; Past 3rd Division President 1982-1983; Member of the 8/40 Salon No. 603; Daughter of the Union Veterans-Tent No 71; First Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Robert W. Abbott of Alton; a step-son, Phillip W. Edwards of Texas; two step-daughters, Catherine Heitzig and Joette Knowlson, both of Jerseyville; three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nancy Ann. Funeral services was Dec 13 at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville with the Rev. Dan Harry officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice.
EDWARDS. Services for Barbara Edwards, 45, wife of Monte Edwards of R. 4 Jerseyville were held Thursday morning at Jacoby Bros Funeral Home with the Rev. William Hembrow officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. She died at 7:50 a.m. Han 27 at Jersey Community Hospital. She was born in Jersey County May 12, 1935 a daughter of Russell and Nellie Elliott Wagenblast. Her survivors are her husband, Monte and one son, Mark; a daughter Karen Hansen , all of Jerseyville; three sisters, Betty Fessler, Godfrey; Carol Tirjan, Dallas, Tx and Rosemary Mulligan of /florrissant, Mo. and four grandchildren. The American Cancer Society has been named as a memorial.

Final rites were held Saturday morning June 10 at 10 o’clock at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home for Mrs Bertha Edwars, wife of Sam Edwards of Grafton, whose death occurred Wednesday June 7 at 11:30 p.m. at St Luke’s Hospital in St Louis Mo. the services were in charge of Chapter 318, Order of Eastern Star of Grafton. Mrs Edwardswas born in Shannon, Il on Aug 27, 1898. Her age at the time of death was 51 years, 9 mo. and 10 days. Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Mrs Alfred Pace of Venice and Miss Suzanne Edwars of Grafton; one granddaughter, Virginia Pace and two brothers, Harrison Barnes of Shannon, Il and Arthur Barnes of Calif.
EDWARDS. Charles Edwards of Madison died at the home of Milo Cope near Otterville, age 51 years. ME Church at Otterville. Mr Edwards was a former resident of Jersey County and had come to the home of Mr Cope for a visit.
EDWARDS. Funeral services for Dewey Clifton Edwards of Route One, Grafton are set for Friday morning, Jan 17 at 9 o’clock at St Patrick’s Church in Grafton. Requiem Mass will be celebrated by Rev Father Anthony Schmidt and burial will be in the Hartford Cemetery where military services will be conducted. Visitation hours will be held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville after 2 p.m. Thursday. The death of Mr. Edwards, a veteran of Word War I, occurred Jan 14 at 1:30 a.m. at John Cochran Hospital in St Louis where he had been a patient for four days. Mr Edwards was a retired water treating engineer for the State of Illinois Park Service. He was a son of the late Nr and Mrs Richard Edwards and was born Sept 26, 1898 at Mt Pleasant. His age at death was 70 years, 3 months and 18 days. Surviving Mr Edwars are his wife Violet Beymeyer Edwards of Graton, two brothers, Joseph of Chicago and Richard of Festus, Mo and one sister Mrs Carl Woodrich of Kankakee.
EDWARDS. Funeral services were held Nov 30 for Miss Elizabeth Louis Edwards, 59, deputy manage of the Central Illinois Chapter of the American Red Cross whose death occurred at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln where she had been a patient for three weeks. Services were held at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Lincoln with Dean David Weden of St Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral of Oeoria officiating. Burial was in the Union Cemetery at Lincoln. Miss Edwards, a daughter of the late Ernest L. and Naomi Myers Edwards, was reared in Jerseyville and was a graduate of the Jersey Township High School. She was a cousin of Joseph Edwards of Jerseyville. The former Jerseyville resident had been with the American Red Cross for thirty years, joining during World War II when she was assigned to military posts as a tecreation worker at hospitals in Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. From 1943 to 1946 she was a home service caseworker for the Wood River Red Cross Chapter in Alton. In 1946 she accepted a similar position with the Red Cross in Milwaukee, Wis where she remained for 20 years, holding various assignments of increasing responsibility. In 1967 she joined the staff of Peoria Red Cross, moving there to reside with Miss Hazelle B. Harper at 1226 E. Maywood. As a disaster casework specialist, Miss Edwards frequently was called upon by the American National Red Cross for assistance on major disasters, such as the tidal wave at Crescent City, Calif. in 1964 and various hurricanes. Active in the community, Miss Edwards was immediate past president of the Altrusa Club and a member of St Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral. She was also a member of Peoria Business and Professional Women’s Club, which she served as chairman for Dist. 9, Illinois Federation. In Milwaukee she had been president of the Business and Professional Woman’s Club. Surviving are one sister, Mrs D.D. (Bonnie) Welch of Lincoln two brothers, Ernest of Broadwell and Joseph of Lincoln; two nieces and four nephews.
EDWARDS. Mrs Charles H. Terry of Jerseyville received word Sunday of the death of her brother-in-law, Fred M. Edwards a native of Jersey County, which occurred Sunday morning, May 8 at 9:30 at his home, 848 East Walnut, Lakeland, Fla. Funeral rites were held from Futch-Steen Funeral Home to the First Methodist Church, Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland, Wednesday morning, May 11 at 10:30 o’clock. Burial was in Lakeland. Mr Edwards was a son of the late Henry D. and Mary Haweller Edwards and was born at Delhi Aug 25, 1873. His age at the time of death was 86 years, eight months, and thirteen days. Mr Edwards had resided in Lakeland since 1923. He is survived by hiswife, Mrs Lora Terry Edwards of Lakeland and two sons, Terry Warren Edwards of Champaign, Il and Marshall H Edwards of Bartow, Fla and one grandson Terry Edwards, Jr of Champaign.

Mrs Edwards died Sunday at Garnets Chateau. She was preceded in death by her parents Mr and Mrs Joseph Becker and her husband Harry Edwards. She was a past matron of the Eastern Star and also served on the Jersey County Welfare Board, the Jersey Community Hospital Board, the Jersey County Board of Review and the Home Extension Council. She is survived by one sister, Mrs Nellie Nutt of Jerseyville.
EDWARDS. Harry Tarry Edwards of Route One Fieldon who was engaged in the lumber business in Grafton from 1906 until his retirement in 1953, died Sunday morning April 10, at 7:10 a.m. at the Jersey Community Hospital where he had been moved Saturday evening after suffering a stroke at his home near Nutwood. Final rites were held Tuesdayafternoon April 12 at 2 o’clock at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home. Rev. Donald Riley of Grafton, pastor of the Rosedale Methodist Churches, officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Jerseyville. Mr Edwards was a son of the late William H. and Emma Felter Edwards and was born at Brightonon Jan 27, 1871. He age at the time of death was 95 years, 2 months, and 13 days. While residing in Grafton he served as Supervisor from Quarry Township for twelve years. Prior to engaging in business, the late Mr Edwards was a pilot on a steamboat from St Louis to New Orleans, La. He is survivedby his wife, Mrs Grace Becker Edwards of Route One Fieldon, three nephews, Percy Kelsey of Toledo, Ohio, L.E. Kelsey of Shipman and Harry E. Kelsey of Denver, Colorado and one niece Mrs Nell K Gaspard of Shipman.
EDWARDS. Helen Edwards, 85, formerly of East St Louis died Aug 9, 1989 at Jersey Care Center, Jerseyville after a lengthy illness. She retired in 1960 as a visiting public health nurse in the East St Louis area. Born in Jersey County, her parents were the late William and Helen Witman Bartlett. On March 9, 1943 she married Thomas Edwards, who died March 17, 1967. Surviving are two sisters, Dorothy Klunk of Jerseyville and Florence Denother of Alton; and four brothers, William, Ralph, and Harold Bartleet of Jerseyville and Eugene Bartlett of Brighton. Visitation is 9-10:15 a.m. Saturday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. A funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St Fancis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville. Burial is in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Bellville.
EDWARDS. Henry D. Edwrds died in Ellsbury, Wash April 7. 75 years and former resident of Jersey Co where he engaged in Mercantile business. He assisted in survey of Chicago and Alton RR and also served as station agent at Delhi for more than 30 years.
EDWARDS. Mrs Ida Edwards of Delhi died at the home of her son, Roy Edwards, of Granite City. She had gone there for Christmas visit. Age 70 years. Ida Isabelle Stevens, daughter of Ruth Adams and James Stevens, born in fidelity, Il, Oct 23 1857 and died Dec 31,1927. On Oct 3, 1900 she married Wm H. Edwards who with a daughter, Mrs. Wm Briggs of Granie City, survive. Two sons, Roy of Granite City and Henry of Gary, Ind. Two brothers, John of Piasa and Charles of Springfield, Il. EDWARDS. Joseph W. Edwards was born in Springfield, Mo, Oct 7, 1851. Died at his home in Jerseyville, Dec 14, 1895, aged 44 years, 2 months and 7 days. Mr Edwards was a carpenter by trade and the day before his death was engaged in his usual work. He leaves wife and three children. Being a member of Hickory Grove Camp No 442 MWA the funeral was in charge of the same at the ME Church Monday the 16th at 2 p.m. Rev Crow delivering the discourse. Most a hundred woodmen marched in the procession and paid their last tribute of respect to the deceased neighbor, who so thoughtfully carried a policy in the Woodmen for $3000 which will be a Godsend to the bereft widow and children.
EDWARDS. Joseph Wray Edwards, Jr, 59, 401 Maple Summit Road, Jerseyville died unexpectedly at 2:30 a.m. Dec 7 at Jersey Community Hospital. Edwards was born in Jerseyville, June 22, 1923, the son of the late Joseph Wry and Therza Blanch Medord Edwards. He was an electrician for 35 years, and retired as foreman of Wegman Electric Co., Wood River in March of 1981 due to illness. He was a member of NECA-IBEW 649. Edwards served in the United States Marine Corps from Oct 7, 1942 to Nov 9,1945 and from Nov 8, 1947 to Dec 7, 1951 as a staff sergeant in the Pacific, Bonganville and Norther Solomons. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 492, 20th District Commander 1972-73. Third Division Commander 1978-79. He was serving as department chairman of the state of Illinois Military Prepardness Commission and a member of the National Foreign Relations Commission. He served on the board of the Alton VFW, 1308 and Grand Cheminot of the Sixth District of the 40/8 in 1976. He was past patron of the Order of Eastern Star 65, a member of the AF and AM, Jerseyville 394, the Knights Templar Belvdere Commandery, Royal Arch Mason of Illinois, Franklin Chapter and Royal and Select Masters of the State of Illinois, Alton Council. He is survived by his wife, the former Anna Mae Dabbs whom he married June 29, 1933;his step-mother Marion Edwards, Cape Girardeau, Mo, one son, Phillip Edwards of LaPorte, Texas and one step-son Robert W. Abbott, Jerseyville; two daughters, Catherine Heitiz and Joetta Knowlson both of Jerseyville; 12 grandchildren, three step grandchildren and one brother, Paul L. Edwards, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Dec 9 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. R.E. George officiating, with burial in oak Grove Cemetery. Masonic Lodge 397 conducted Masonic services Wednesday at the funeral home and the Alton VFW conducted graveside services. The American Legion Department of Illinois Military Preparedness Fund or the Arthritis Foundation has been designated as memorials.
EDWARDS. Mr and Mrs Joseph Edwards of this city attended the funeral rites Sunday at Cape Girardeau, Mo for his father, Joshep Wray Edwards, SR. 81, whose death occurred Thursday in a hospital there. Interment was in Memorial Park. He was born Mar 10, 1889 at Jerseyville, the son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Warren Edwards. A general machinist for United Shoe Machine Corp. until retirement in 1955, he had resided at Cape Girardeau since 1931. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Marian Gohn Edwards; three sons, Paul L. and Charles A. of Alton and Joseph W. of Jerseyville; a daughter, Mrs Harold Hoffnagle of Odess, Texas a stepson Herbert Gohn of cape Girardeau; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
EDWARDS. Mrs Mary Edwards born April 2, 1814 in Scito Co, Ohio died Jan 21, 1890 at the home of son, G. W. Edwards 1 mile SE of Delhi. She lived there 49 years. Was Mary Darlington, married Andrew Edwards in Ohio, Dec 25, 1835. Came Jersey Co, Mar 1849 and lived near McClusky. Moved to the old homestead where she died. Joined ME Church in Delhi in 1854. EDWARDS. Myrtle Edwards, 98, Jerseyville died Sept 12 at Jersey Care Center. She was born Oct 4,1904 in Morgan County, the daughter of the late Frank and Florence Spires Baptist. She married Everett Edwards on Dec 4, 1904 in Morgan County; he died April 5, 1963. she was a member of the First Baptist Church for more that 70 years and was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star. She is survived by daughter Florence Carpenter of Fort Collins, Colorado; two grandchildren and two great grand-children; sisters Eula Tatz of Jerseyville, Stella Mansfield of manteo, Calif and Grace Plushkell of Los Angeles. She was preceded in death by one son and one daughter. Funeral services were Sept 16 at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. V. Clay Noah officiating. Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery.
EDWARDS. Paul Laverne Edwards, 70 of Onalaska, Texas, died at 7:25 a.m. May18 at his home following a brief illness. He was recently retired from 10 years of service with Jacobs Construction, Inc. of Pasadena, Calif. as electrical superintendent. Prior to that he was employed 22 years with Wegman Electric in Wood River. He lived 60 years in the Jerseyville and Alton area. for 53 years he was an amateur radio operator. He was born in Jerseyville, the son of the late Joseph Wray and Terza Blanch Medford Edwards. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Blanch Edwards. He married Naomi L. McDaniels on Sept 24, 1964. Surviving in addition to his wife are his stepmother, Marion Edwards of Cape Girardeau, Mo two daughters, Linda Campbell of Irving, Texas and Diana Mullaney of Cedar Hill, Texas; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Ciletti of Jasen Beach, Fla five grandchildren and one step great grandchild. Cremation was handled by Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas.
EDWARDS. Ray F. Edwards, 17, son of Ray and Elizabeth Malik Edwards of 3024 Iowa Ave, Granite City, died unexpectedly in his sleep at 7:05 a.m. Mar 19 at his residence. An inquest is pending. He was the grandson of Elizabeth Malik of Jerseyville and nephew of John and Anna Walsh. He was born Dec 2, 1963 in Granite City. Ray was a member of Scout Troop 146, Explored Post 253, secretary of the Order of the Arrow, Science Club, parttime sports photographer of the Granite City South soccer team, certified scuba diver, quartermaster Boy Scout Troop 15. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Wesley and LaVern of Granite City, maternal grandmother and aunt and uncle. EDWARDS. Robin Dwight Edwards, Sr 73, who resided at 207 E. Carpenter St, Jerseyville, died at 12:40 a.m. Jan 14 at Jersey Community Hospital where he was admitted on Jan 11. He was born in Rockbridge, Nov 19, 1902 the son of the late James L. and Letta C. Campbell Edwards. He was a retired electrician and was a radio dispatcher at the Jerseyville Police Department for a number of years. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Margaret Tucker Edwards; one daughter, Miss Janet Edwards of Jerseyville; one son, Robin D. Edwards, jr., Godfrey and two grandchildren. EDWARDS. Mrs Dan T. (Vera) Edwrds of the Western Auto firm died unexpectedly at 6:50 Tuesday morning. Mrs Edwards had returned to the family home, 208 E. Pearl Street from the Jersey Community Hospital where she had been a patient since incurring a leg fracture in an accident at the store on April 24. She became ill around 6 o’clock Tuesday morning and her death occurred enroute to the hospital. Visitation hours were held Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Gubser Funeral Home and from noon today at the First United Methodist Church where services will be held at 2 o’clock. Rev. Louis Purcell will officiate and burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Edwards, a daughter of the late Thomas and Frazee Short, was born in Cantrill, Iowa May 7, 1909. Her sixty-first birthday anniversary occurred five days before her death. Surviving Mrs Edwards in addition to her husband are one son Thomas L. Edwards of Jerseyville; three sisters, Mrs Gladys Davis of Cantrill, Mrs Raymond Morrissey of Grand Island, Neb. and Mrs Frank O’Farrell of Lemay, Mo. and three grandchildren. Mrs Edwards was graduated in 1933 from the Ottumwa School of Nursing in Ottumwa, Iowa. Though she had never been actively engaged in the practice of her profession during her residency in Jerseyville, she had participated in many of the nursing programs and had on numerous occasions given generously of her services to those in need of care. For a number of years she was in charge of recruitment of nurses for the bloodmobile in Jersey County. Her leadership in church affairs was recognized by her selection to serve on its Board of Trustees and on the official Board. She was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. In the interest of Promoting the business welfare of the community, Mrs Edwards had been active in the Woman’s Division of the Chamber of Commerce and had served as state director. She also held memberships in the Ruby Rebekah Lodge and the Order of Eastern Star. Aside from her work with the Red Cross, both in its bloodmobile program and its annual Roll Calls, Mrs Edwards served on the County TB Board and has assisted on the local levels with the Jersey County Heart Association and the Jersey County Unit of the American Cancer Society.
EDWARDS. William Bailey Edwards born in Monmouth Co, NJ April 26, 1824. Grandson of Gen Bailey of Revolutionary War fame. Learned tailors trade, married Mary Emma Allen on Mar 15, 1848 and left NJ and came to Jersey Co moving on a farm of Abijah Davis, where he lived two years. Then moved to Jerseyville and teamed between Alton and Jerseyville for 11 years hauling flour to Alton and merchandise of all kinds from Alton to Jerseyville. In fall of 1865 purchased farm of 160 acres in Richwood Township where he lived until death of his wife June 20, 1889. Since that time he has lived with children and at time of his death March 11, 1898 was living with son, William, six miles west of Kane. Father of 13 children seven of whom are still living. On account of sever illness of his son, funeral services were conducted at the cemetery by Rev. Crawford.
EDWARDS. William H. Edwards born in Portsmount, Sciato Co, Ohio, Oct 9, 1840 came with his parents to Ill in 1849. Lived near Dow-then Delhi. In 1870 he married Emma Felter of Kane, Il. 4 children, 2 sons and 2 daughters. Mrs Edwards died 4 years ago. 2 children remain, Harry T. of Grafton and Percy Edwards of Des Moines, Iowa. 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren. Resided on farm near Brighton from his marriage until 1908 when he came to Grafton. Died at St Anthony’s Hospital in Alton 87 years. Funeral at Harry Edwards home. Rev. C. J. Struebing. EDWARDS. William Henry Edwards born in Monmouth Co, NJ July 13, 1850 died at home six miles west of Kane, Mar 15, 1898. Leaves wife and four children. Funeral by Rev. Crawford. Burial in Reddish Cem. Edwards with her family was returning home from her husbands funeral, her little son, aged four years, taken sick and died at home of her sister, Mrs Papker Dunham, two days later.

Egelhoff, died at one twenty-five o’clock Thanksgiving afternoon at the Waters Nursing home on Giddings Avenue where she had been a patient for several months. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home where services were held at two o’clock Sunday afternoon, Nov 25. Rev. H.O. Renken, pastor of the Peace United Church of Christ, officiated, and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Mrs Egelhoff, a daughter of the late Frederick and Magdaline Warner Groppel, was born in Jersey Co, Mar 8, 1882. Her age at the time of death was eighty years, eight months and fourteen days. The decedent is survived by five daughters, Mrs Edwin Sauerwein, Mrs Harry Karr and Mrs Leonard Willman of Jerseyville, Mrs Charles Cary of Marathon, Florida and Mrs Albert Lawrence of Miami, Florida; four sons, Henry, Leo, and Clarence of Jerseyville and Walter Egelhoff of Piasa; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren, one brother, Charles Groppel of Fieldon; and seven sister, Mrs Henry Steiner and Mrs Earl Guess of Carlinville; Mrs Alfred Isringhausen and Mrs Clifton Cunningham of Jerseyville; Mrs Frank Handler of Phoenix Arizona and Mrs Louis Rosenthal of Fieldon. Her husband and one son, Edward, preceded her in death.

Jerfferson, this city, died Wednesday morning, May 22,at Waters Nursing Home where he had resided the past month. He had been in ill health for some time. He was a son of the late George and Lizzie Hagenmoser Egelhoff and was born at Lincoln, Nebraska on Dec 22, 1888. He was aged 79 years and 5 months. Mr Egelhoff had been a resident of Jerseyville for sixty years and for many years followed his trade as a plumber. He was a veteran of World WWar I and was a member of Worthey Post American Legion. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs Hazel M. Egelhoff of this city, one step-daughter, Mrs Vincent Heitzig of Jerseyville, and one step-son, Richard Long of Los Angles, Calif., one nephew, Carl Egelhoff of Portland, Oregon, six step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.
EGELHOFF. Charles J. Egelhoff, retired farmer and carpenter, died Sunday morning Oct 16 at 8 o’clock at Garnet’s Nursing Home following a period of ill health. Final rites were held Monday afternoon at the Gubser funeral Home with Rev. Carlton G. Christenson, pastor of the First Baptist Church and Rev. H.O. Renken pastor of the United Church of Christ officiating and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation hours were at the funeral home. Mr Egelhoff was a son of the late John and Marie Auchkabar Egelhoff and was born in Jersey County June 21, 1881. His age at the time of death was eighty-four years, three months and twenty-five days. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Minnie Egelhoff, a nephew, Harold Ahrling of Des Plaines who was reared by the couple and other nieces and nephews.

EGELHOFF. A funeral mass was celebrated Friday morning at St Francis Xavier Church for Estelle Egelhoff of 923 S. State Street, Jerseyville with Father Patrick Morrow celebrant. She died at 2:05 p.m. Feb 9 at Jersey Community Hospital, a daughter of Fred W. and Mary A. Middendorf Egelhoff and had been a secretary in insurance. She is survived by two sisters, Mabel Sinclair of Jerseyville and Edith Hoffman of St Louis. The Rosary was recited Thursday evening at Jacoby Bros Funeral Home. St Francis Xavier Church or Holy Ghost Church have been named as memorials. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
EGELHOFF. The remains of Harry K. Egelhoff who died in Springfield, Ohio hospital on Feb 8 arrived in our city Saturday morning and were taken to the home of his parents, Mr and Mrs George Egelhoff. Harry Egelhoff was a former Jerseyville boy, being born in this city Aug 1,1870, attending the local public schools and later working in the large carriage factory operated here by his father at that time. On Nov 19, 1894 he was united in marriage with Miss Sadie Hill and about ten years ago left for the eastern part of our country. The past three of four years he spent at Springfield, Ohio where he took sick and died. Funeral services were conducted at St Francs Xavier Church Monday morning at 9 o’clock Rev Father J.J. Clancy officiating, followed by interment at the Oak Grove Cemetery. Decedent is survived by the aged parents, three brothers, George Egelhoff, Fred Egelhoff of Texas and Nic Egelhoff of San Francisco, Calif; two sisters, Mrs Frank Smith of Minneapolis, Minn and Miss Alice Egelhoff of our city, besides numerous more distant relatives and friends. Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs L. Tucker of Chicago and Mrs Will Egelhoff of Oakland, Calif and son W.P. Egelhoff of St Louis.

Born in Jersey Co on April 19, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Nellie Powers Woods, Sr. She married Walter Egelhoff on Aug 9, 1941 in St Charles, MO. He died May 15, 1990. Surviving are two sons, Bill Egelhoff of Shipman and Mike Egelhoff of Piasa; and five grandchildren. Two brothers, Lloyd Jr and Floyd Woods preceded her in death. EGELHOFF. Former Jerseyville resident Helen V. Egelhoff, 85, died at 6:06 a.m. at Missouri Baptist Hospital hi St Louis after a long illness. The retired teach taught at Lindenwood College and Monticello College. Born in Jerseyville, she was the daughter of the late Murray and Jane (Rich) Voorhees. Surviving are a daughter, Rosemay McConkey of Santabelle Island, Fla, and a son Richard C.Egelhoff of St Charles, Mo; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were two sisters, Tillie Parsell and Stella Voorhees; and a brother Richard Voorhees. Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Baue Funeral Home in St Charles, Mo. EGELHOFF. John Egelhoff one of our highly esteemed and substantial citizens died Friday morning. 76 years. Came from Dorn Duerkheim in Hesen-Darmstadt, German province of the fatherland. Came to USA in his younger years and farmed in Greene Co. Married Marie Ackerbauer-10 children.
EGELHOFF. John Augustus Egelhoff, eighty-four year old retired superintendent of elementary schools of Jerseyville and a veteran of forty-three years in educational work, died at eight forty-five Sunday evening, Mar 4 at the Jersey Community Hospital. He had been hospitalized since suffering a stroke of paralysis on Feb 24. Mr Egelhoff retired as superintendent of the local elementary school nineteen years ago. Nearly all of his forty-three years in the education profession were spent in Jersey County where he taught a number of the rural schools, the Jerseyville High School, Grafton and the Jerseyville Grade School. EGELHOFF. Leo Louis Egelhoff, 72, died at 3:43 a.m. today, June 7, 1988 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. He was employed by the State of Illinois 29 years, retiring in Dec 1984. Born in Jersey County, he was the son of the late William and Anna Groppel Egelhoff. He married the former Pauline Grothasu July 20, 1940 in Jerseyville and she survives. Also surviving are a son Robert Egelhoff of Jerseyville; a daughter Carol Wilson of Jerseyville; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren, Three brothers, Henry and Elarence of Jerseyville and Walter of Piasa; four sisters, Freda Cray of Florida, Matilda Lawerence and Bertha Willman, both of Jerseyville and Grace Karr of Kane. Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville where services will conducted 10 a.m. Thursday by Rev. William Hembrow. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to a charity of ones choice.
EGELHOFF. Miss Mamie Egelhoff died at St John’s Hospital in St Louis April 25. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs George Egelhoff. 21 years of age. Born and reared in Jerseyville. Funeral from St Francis Church. Rev. Harty. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gus Embly, Gus and Leo Casavant, Thomas Hanely, Edward Jacoby, Harry Christy, Martin Dolan and Paul Hamilton.
EGELHOFF. Mrs Fred Egelhoff, May, died at the home of her parents, Aug 21, 1887. Born April 26, 1862. Funeral from St Francis Church. Father Cassidey of Murray and Father Harty.
EGELHOFF. The funeral of Mrs Minnie M. Egelhoff, 91 of Jerseyville was held Sunday afternoon, June 12, at the Gubser Funeral Home with the Rev. Everett Chambers pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Her death occurred at 8 a.m. on June 10 at Jersey Community Hospital. Mrs Egelhoff had resided at Greenwood Manor for four years. She was born June 15, 1885 a daughter of William and Catherine Brown French. Her husband, Charles died Oct 16, 1965. The Egelhoffs reared one foster son, Harold Ahrling of Des Plains, who survives. Other survivors are four nieces, Mrs John (Katherine) Powers and Mrs Dorothy Coultas of Jacksonville, Mrs Kenneth (Dorothy) Johnson of Elgin and Mrs Aloys (Mary Lou) Heitzig of Jerseyville.
EGELHOFF. Ralph K. Egelhoff, well-known Jerseyville florist and chairman of the Jerseyville Water Board died at seven-five o’clock at the Jersey Community Hospital where he was taken for treatment after suffering a sever heart attach at the family home west of Jerseyville an hour earlier. Mr Egelhoff, a son of the late J. August and Amelia Ann Kirchner Egelhoff, was born in Jersey County. His age at the time of death was 59 years, 3 months, and 28 days. He was educated in the Jerseyville schools and later attended the University of Illinois. he had been in the nursery business since the ’30’s. Mr Egelhoff was serving his third nine year term as a member of the Jerseyville Water Board and has held the chairmanship of the Board for a number of years. He was also instrumental in the organization of the Westlake Development Corp. which foster the Westlake Country Club, and through his knowledge of the nursery business he has given valuable assistance to the preparation and care of the greens on the golf course. The Jerseyville florist was a charter member of the Lions Club and served as one of its first presidents. He was a past worshipful master of Jerseyville Lodge A.F. and A.M. and was member of the First Baptist Church of Jerseyville. Other fraternal memberships were in the Elks and Moose Lodges of Jerseyville. Prior to the organization of Community Unit School Dist No 100, Jersey and Greene Counties, Mr Egelhoff served on the Board of Education of the Jerseyville Grade School for a number of years. At the time of his death he was serving as president of the Federal Land Bank Association of Carrollton. Surviving Mr Egelhoff are his ( rest of obit Missing. 4-29-1966 Democrat News)
EGELHOFF. Commital rites will be held at approximately eleven o’clock Friday morning at Oak Grove Cemetery, Jerseyville for Roy A. Egelhoff of St Louis whose death occurred at four forty-five Wednesday morning at Alexian Brothers Hospital in St Louis. The funeral cortege will come to Jerseyville from the Krieghauser Funeral Home in St Louis where services are to be held at nine o’clock tomorrow (Friday) morning. Friends may call at the Funeral Home this evening. Mr Egelhoff was the oldest son of the late Mr and Mrs J.A. Egelhoff of Jerseyville and at the time of death was fifty-four years old. Hissurvivors are his wife, Patricia of St Louis; one son Richard C. of St Ann, Mo; one daughter, Mrs Roy McConkey of Kirkwood; four grandchildren; one brother, Ralph K. of Jerseyville and one sister, Mrs George Buterbaugh of New York City, who arrived in St Louis Wednesday. The decedent was employed in the sales department of Bridgeport Brass Company in Chicago for a number of years. Last spring when his health became impaired Mr and Mrs Egelhoff returned to St Louis to reside and he spent some time here with his brother and sister-in-law. He had been a patient at the Hospital since a weekago last Friday.
EGELHOFF. The death of Theodore Egelhoff at his home six miles west of Jerseyville, Sunday Jan 19, 1896 aged 19 years, 10 months and 25 days is a sad event we are asked to chronicle. The young man cut off in life when ripening into manhood, presents a distressing scene. The deceased was a son of Jahn and Mary Egelhoo and a brother of Prof. Egelhoff of the city school. The funeral services were held at the Geman Evangelical Luthern Church in Fieldon, Rev. Martin Officiating. Died of typhoid pneumonia- Fieldon Cemetery Youngest of 9 children.
EGELHOFF. Walter Frank Egelhoff, 72, died at 10:28 p.m. Tuesday May 15, 1990 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and a retired farmer. Born in Otterville, he was the son of the late William and Anna Groppel Egelhoff. On Aug 9, 1941, in St Charles, Mo he married the former Helen Woods. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Bill Egelhoff of Shipman and Mike Egelhoff of Piasa; five grandchildren; four sisters, Freda Cray of Florida, Matilda Lawrence of Jerseyville, Grace Karr of Kane and Bertha Willman of Jerseyville; and two brothers, Henry and Clarence both of Jerseyville. Preceding him in death were a sister, Edna Sauerwein and two brothers Edward and Leo Egelhoff. Visitation is form 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday with services at 1 p.m. at Targhetta Funeral Home in Spima. The Rev. Rick Francis will officiate. Burial is in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to theArea Ambulance Service, Shipman Unit.

To America with parents landing in New Orleas, Dec 27, 1849 to Her.(?) then to Carrollton. Was in business wit M.H. Watt and later John Long. Built a 3 story factory building. Married Eliza Jane Hubbard Dec 1, 1859. 7 children-4 living, Mr. R. of St Louis, Henry of Spokane, Wash, Clarence of Springfield, Mo and Clara LaRue of San Francisco, Calif.
EGELHOFF. On Saturday, Sept. 18th, at his residence in this city, Wm. EGELHOFF, Sr., in the 69th year of his age. Wm Egelhoff was born near Mayne on the Rhine in southern Germany. In December 1805 where he followed the occupation of farming and blacksmithing, he was married to Miss Magdalena SHROAD, by whom he had seven children, all boys; five of whom are still living. In the fall of 1849 he left Germany, together with his wife and family, to find a new home in America. After a prosperous voyage, he arrived in New Orleans; from which he took passage to St. Louis, where he remained during the winter. In the spring of 1850 he moved to String Prairie, in Greene county in this state. Here as in the Old Country he followed farming and blacksmithing. In 1855 he sold out and bought a farm in Montgomery county. He again sold out and in 1862 came to this city, where he has since resided, respected by all who knew him, for his industry and strict honesry. In 1862 his wife died; in 1863 he married Gertude STEINEACHAR, who died in 1865. December the 3d, 1868, he married Catherine STEINEACHAR, who still survives him. Near three score years and ten, had he toiled and struggled with the adversities of life, only to be gathered to mother earth. The family have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement, for by both will the presence of Mr. Egelhoff be greatly missed. Jersey County Democrat, September 23, 1875.
EGELHOFF. William Henry Egelhoff, 86 year old retired Jersey County farmer died Friday evening July 1 at 11:30 o’clock at his, 213 E Carpenter St, Jerseyville. He had been in failing health. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home where final rites were held Tuesday afternoon, July 5, at 2 o’clock. Rev. Leonard Todd of Alton, former pastor of Peace United Evangelical and Reform Church of which Mr Egelhoff was a member officiated at the service. The aged man was a son of the late John and Mary Arkebauer Egelhoff, natives of Germany, and he was born in Jersey County on July 16, 1873. His age at the time of death was eighty-six years, eleven months and fifteen days. Mr Egelhoff engaged in farming for many years and following his retirement he and Mrs Eglehoff moved to Jerseyville sixteen years ago. The couples sixtieth wedding anniversary would have occurred on July 26. Surviving him in addition to his wife, Anna A. Egelhoff of this city are four sons, Henry, Leo and Clarence of Jerseyville and Walter of Piasa. Five daughters, Mrs Edwin Sauerwein, Sr. of Jerseyville, Mrs Charles Cray of Marathon, Florida, Mrs Albert Lawrence of Miami, Florida, Mrs Harry Karr of Jerseyville and Mrs Leonard Willman of Fieldon; one brother Charles Egelhoff of Jerseyville, twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. One son, Edward Egelhoff preceded him in death.

EISENREICH. William F. Eisenreich, 63, of 4030 Aberdeen, Alton died at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Jewish Hospital, St Louis, after an illness since September. He was shipping coordinator for the Alton Box Board Co. for 42 years. Surviving are his wife the former Deloris Bright Bonner, whom he married Sept 1, 1951; three sons, Jim of Woodridge, Il, Robert of Oceanside, Calif, and Gary “Corky” of Alton; a daughter, Mary Wilson of Niagara Falls, NY; a stepdaughter, Anetta Manee of Jerseyville; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; a brother Emil of Alton, and three sisters, Myrna Dilley, Viola Bierbaum and Clara Casner, all of Alton. Friends may call at Gent Chapel after 2 p.m. Monday where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Williard Mueller officiating. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park. Messiah Luthern Church, Alton has been designated as a memorial.
EISLER. Mrs Johanna Eisler, 88 years old, died at her home in the east part of town. Funeral held from home. Rev. Jenkins. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
EISLER. Mrs Mary Christina Eisler, 81, widow of Michael Eisler, died at 7:15 p.m. at Watson Nursing Home here. She was born in Otterville, Sept 10, 1871. Mrs Eisler leaves three sons Frand Eisler of Jerseyville and Earl Eisler of Phoenix, Ariz and August Ferenbach by a previous marriage also of Jerseyville, two daughters, Mrs Ross Hartwich of Chesterfield and Mrs Ray Campbell of Jerseyville; two step-daughters, Mrs Rosa Price and Mrs Minnie Terpening, Alton 27 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. The body is at Jacoby Bros Funeral Home where friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday where riteswill be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. by Rev. Gerald M. Boch. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
EISLER. Funeral services for Ronald Dean Eisler, sixteen year old Jerseyville youth, were held from Gubser Funeral Home to the First Baptist Church, Wednesday afternoon, Mar 19 at 2 o’clock. Rev Carl Moman, pastor of the Church officiated at the services and interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Ronald Dean’s death occurred suddenly Monday afternoon, March 17 at 2:45 at the home of his parents on Lincoln Avenue. An inquest into his death will be conducted by Coroner Rodney C. Jacoby. The youth was a son of Frank and Irma Woolsey Eisler and he was born Aug 5, 1941 in Jerseyville. He was aged sixteen years, seven months and twelve days. Surviving Ronald Dean in addition to his parents are two brothers, Robert Leroy Eisler of Otterville and Arthur Michael Eisler of Jerseyville; four sisters, Mrs Morris Long, Mrs William Hardy and Miss Joetta Marie Eisler of Jerseyville and Mrs James Martin of Carlinville; his maternal grandmother, Mrs Augusta Baxter of Jerseyville and his maternal grandfather, Amos Woolsey of Edwardsville.
