DEAN. Died 07-03-1944. Abraham Dean, retired farmer, died at home in Jerseyville, March 7.
DEAN. Died 02-02-1905. Nancy Dean, 75: to the editor of the Otterville paper: I do not know the name of your paper but will you kindly see that this is published. I have not been in Otterville since I was a little girl. My father was once a business man near your little town which he left 35 years ago; he went to Miller County, Missouri and from there back to Pike County, Illinois, and from there to St. Clair County, Missouri, where he died 18 years ago. After father died my mother came to Kansas (13 years ago), where she resided until her death 1 week ago, the 2nd of Feb. She has 2 brothers and 1 son residing near Otterville, will and John Davenport and Richard Medford. My mothers maiden name was Nancy Davenport. She was born near Nashville, TN. She married Joshua Dean 48 years ago; surviving are 3 daughters, Mrs. Ella Munday, of Ceaderale and Mrs. Mollie Gaffe of Cedarvale and Laura Kessinger, of Pearl, Illinois., 2 sons, J. A. Dean, of Garden City and J. S. Dean, of Cedarvale, Kansas. Preceding her in death were her husband and 1 son, (the eldest), who was killed by accidental shooting 23 years ago. Mother was a true Christian woman and a devoted member of the church. During the last 5 years she was not able to attend church much, but she died trusting in her savior. In the forenoon of the day of her death she got up in bed and prayed for her children a sweet prayer. (Signed Mollie Gaffe).
DEAN. Died 01-1931. William F. Dean, 84, Civil War veteran, died recently. The Civil War veteran was buried in Oak Grove cemetery, with Rev. Dawdy officiating.
DEARCY. Died 12-08-1887. Mrs Mary Dearcy (DArcy), 85, another old settler has been called from the scenes of an active life on earth to the great here after. Mary came to Illinois with her husband, Dr. E. A. DArcy in 1833. Jersey County was yet a part of Greene County and almost an unbroken waste of prairie. They made their home at a point now about midway between Jerseyville and Kane on the banks of a stream, which has since borne the name DArcys branch. At that time Jerseyville was unborn and there was no postoffice between Kane and Delhi. Mrs DArcy was a lady of rare amiability which endeared her to all persons with whom she was acquainted. She resided in Jersey County until to death of her daughter, Mrs. P. D. Cheney, in 1877, when she returned to New Jersey, the place of her birth, to end her days amid the scenes of her childhood. She died August 12, 1887 and her husband, Dr. DArcy died in April of 1863.
DEBAUN. Died 06-1972. Miss Margaret Debaun, a retired newspaper woman died Saturday am at Jersey Community hospital following a 3-week illness. The mass of the resurrection was celebrated Monday am at St. Francis Xavier church in Jerseyville by Father R. Terry Shea. Burial was in St. Francis cemetery. The visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The rosary was recited. Miss Debaun, daughter of the late Albert T. & Margaret (Dwyer) Debaun, was born in Cairo. She was graduated from Visitation Academy there and later came to Jerseyville to make her home with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. & Mrs. C. M. Hanes. During her early residency here, Miss Debaun held a position in the office of the late Circuit Clerk A. H. Quinn. She later went to Florida to reside for several years. Upon returning to Jerseyville she accepted a secretarial position with the late Joseph M. Page, owner and editor of the Jersey County Democrat, and Master-in-Chancery in Jersey County. Her duties in the office of Mr. Page were largely in newspaper work where she developed a keen interest in journalism. Following the death of Mr. Page, she was appointed Master-in-Chancery, becoming the first and only woman to serve the county in that capacity. She continued her journalistic work as Jerseyville correspondent for the Alton Evening Telegraph until her retirement 4 years ago. Surviving are 5 nieces, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Ward of Chillicothe, Mrs. Edward (Margaret) McKinnon of Springfield, Mrs. James (Helen) Tlapek of Cape Girardeau, Mrs. – incomplete.
DECKER. Aimee Alise Decker, 25, died Thursday am, June 11, 1992 at Jersey Community hospital. She was a member of Jerseyville Moose Lodge 695 and St. Joseph Alumni of St. Louis. Born in Verdun, France, on January 22, 1967, she was the daughter of Sharon (Whitlock) Decker and the late William Leonard Decker. Also surviving are 1 brother, Eric Decker of Jerseyville; grandmother, Frances L. Young of Jerseyville; step grandfather, Elk H. Young of Jerseyville; grandfather, Milford Whitlock of Jerseyville; and step grandmother, Fae M. Whitlock of Jerseyville. Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville was in charge of arrangements. Funeral from First Presbyterian Church in Jerseyville, with Rev. Simon A. Simon officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. Casimirs Group Home, 10735 Vorhos, St. Louis, Missouri, 63136, or the Presbyterian Church where she had been a member.
DECKER. Died 18-03-1898. Cornelies Decker, 78, died at the home of his son, William Decker, 6 miles west of Jerseyville, March 18, 1898. Funeral from the home and burial was in Grimes cemetery. Rev. I D. Crawford officiated.
DECKER. Died 04-1929. Lee a Decker, 57, of Walnut St., Jerseyville was dead on arrival at the scene of an accident Friday am at Duncan Foundry, Alton where he had been employed for 29 years. Mr Decker was killed instantly when struck by an overhead crane and pinned against a steel beam. He was a maintenance mechanic. Working nearby at the time of the accident was his brother-in-law, Wayne Williams of Grafton. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville with Rev. William Boston of Jacksonville officiating. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. Born in Literberry August 27, 1913, Mr. Decker was the son of Mrs. Gertrude Decker of Literberry and the late George Decker. His Wife, Sylvia (Williams) Decker survives. The family had resided in Jerseyville 14 years and previously had resided in Dow for 18 years. In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Decker is survived by 3 sons, Lee a Jr., and Samuel A. both of Jerseyville, and Wayne Eugene of New Orleans, Louisiana; 1 daughter, Mrs. Robert (Sally) Stahlschmidt of West Alton; 11 grandchildren; 3 brothers, John of Literberry, Raymond of Grand Bland, Michigan, and Albert of Peoria; 7 sisters, Mrs. James Tucker of Literberry, Mrs. William Decker and Mrs. Glenn Mason, Both of Pekin, Mrs. Francis Tucker, Mrs. June Anders and Mrs. Alice Willis all of Jacksonville and Mrs. Robert Bell of Virginia, Illinois.
DECKER. Died 03-12. Ruth Ann Decker, 44, of Walnut St. Jerseyville was dead on arrival at Jersey Community hospital, of injuries suffered in a two car collision on Route 109 December 3. According to an accident report by Trooper A. E Kahl a car driven by Mrs. Deckers husband, Wayne E. Decker, 33, was traveling south on the highway, 3/10 of a mile east of McClusky road, and crossed the center line. A car driven by George W. Hennenberg, 46, of Lincoln St. Jerseyville was traveling north and struck the Decker auto in the right side. Both Decker and Hennenberg were taken to Jersey Community hospital and admitted. Mrs Decker was born in E. Hardin, the daughter of the late Ollie & Alberta (Hunter) Price. She married Wayne E. Decker, who survives. Also surviving are 10 brothers, Carl Price of Phoenix, AZ, Leon Price of Brighton, David, Junior, Frank, Mike, Larry, Jerry, Bruce and Mark Price all of Jerseyville; 4 sisters, Evelyn Morris and Marcella Branham, both of Delhi, Janet Price and Sharon Elmore, both of Sterling. She was preceded in death by 1 son. Funeral services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, Sunday December 6 with Rev. Gordon Cox officiating. Burial was in Hardin cemetery.
DEE. Born 1833. John W. Dee, 81, passed away at his home in Jerseyville. Rev. W. S. Neeley officiated.
DEFFENBAUGH. Died 09-04-1985. Helen Lucille Deffenbaugh, 65, died April 9, after a long illness. Services were held at Meldrum Mortuary Chapel in Mesa, Arizona. She was born June 23, 1920 in Jerseyville, daughter of the late Olin & Florence Miller. She is survived by 2 sisters, Celess Storz of Florida and Dorothy Frost of Jennings, Missouri. Helen was a niece of Stella Miller of Jerseyville and cousin of Stanley Miller, Jerseyville, and Alice Marie Lee.
DEFOSIA. Charles Defosia, 28, born in Grafton, in June of 1869, died January 17, 1897. He leaves his wife and 3 children. Burial was in Hartford cemetery.
DEHNE. Died 07-01-1957. Charles L. Dehne 27, of Chicago, a former resident of Jerseyville, died Monday January 7, in the Illinois Masonic hospital in Chicago where he had been admitted for treatment on Sunday evening. The body was brought to Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services were held January 10. Rev. Earl Dickey, pastor of First Methodist church, is officiating and interment will be in Oak Grove. The decedent was a son of Frank & Ida (Lueking) Dehne, and was born January 19, 1929. Dehne had lived in Chicago for the past 4 1/2 years and was an employee of Motorola, Inc. surviving him are his parents of Hillview, and 1 son Carl Dehne, of Jerseyville.
DEICHLER. Died 1924. Mary Diechler, 63, wife of William Deichler, died at Missouri Baptist Sanatorium in St. Louis. She spent her entire life in Fidelity. She leaves 2 sons, Charles and William of St. Louis; 4 daughters, Clara, Vida Deichler and Freida Beals all of St. Louis, and alma, wife of Thomas Day of Jerseyville; 5 grandchildren and 1 sister, Mrs. Julia Johnson. Her husband William Deichler died a number of years ago, and 1 daughter, Anna died 2 years ago. Funeral from her home and burial in Valhalla cemetery in St. Louis.
DELANEY, Emeline Alpine Mathews. Emeline, daughter of David and Caroline Alpine, was born in Richwoods Township Jersey County, IL March 8, 1835 and closed her eyes in the sleep of death in Hardin, Tuesday August 11, 1903 at I: 15 P.M having attained the age of 68 years, 5 months and 3 days. The deceased was united in marriage September 16, 1854 at Hardin to Elijah Matthews. To this union were born seven sons and four daughters, of whom two sons and one daughter preceded the mother to the grave. One son resides in Oklahoma, four sons and one daughter in Calhoun and two daughters in Jersey County. Her whole life was spent in Jersey until August, 1868 when she was married to Gabriel Delaney in Calhoun, and this County has been her home since. Mrs. Delaney united with the Christian Church in Jersey County about thirty years ago. She was one of the six sisters of whom only one remains. She was quite frail and yet has done much hard work. For three years she has been ailing and during more than the last nine months of that time has been practically bedfast, and has spent much of that time in suffering, which pain her children endeavored to ease by their kindly ministrations. The remains were taken to Rosedale for burial Wednesday… The Rev. Jas. R. (Sager)…. [Remainder of obituary missing]
DELAPP. Died 09-08-1981. Erma Delapp, 78, of Springfield, died August 9, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born October 19, 1902 in Palmyra, the daughter of the late James B. & Orra B. (Grimmett) Beasley. She married Harvey E. Delapp, who is deceased. Mrs Delapp was supervisor of the service and operations division of Stix, Baer and Fuller for 38 years, retiring in 1968. She is survived by 1 aunt and several cousins. Funeral services were held at Warner-Targhetta Funeral Home August 12, with Rev. Earl Clagg of Bethel Baptist Church officiating. Burial in Medora cemetery.
DELICATE. Died 08-1985. Dr William E. Delicate, 81, died at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY, due to injuries received in an auto accident. A longtime area physician, Dr. delicate was on the staffs of several area hospitals. He was born in St. Louis, a son of the late Ernest A. & Minna (Krome) Delicate. Dr Delicate was a grandson of Rev. Henry Delicate who was pastor of Grafton & Hartford Methodist churches in the 1870s. He built the church at Hartford. On January 17, 1931, in Cincinnati, OH, he married Helen (Scott) Delicate. She survives. Also surviving are 1 son, W. Scott Delicate, Petersburg, OH; 1 Daughter, Ann Wagner of Northfield; 7 grandchildren; and 1 sister, Harriet Shore of Cincinnati, OH. There was no visitation and services were conducted at First Presbyterian Church of Edwardsville with Rev. Carl Bennett officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials may be given to Edwardsville public library. Arrangements were by Weber Funeral Home of Edwardsville.
DELLING. Henry Delling, 60, died at his home on Franklin St. Funeral by Rev. Nollau ? from German Evangelical church. Burial under auspices of Hickory Grove Camp.
DELP. Died 1914. Mrs John Delp, wife of John Delp, was buried Saturday in Elsah cemetery, with Rev. W. Fahnestock of Elsa Methodist church officiating. Her husband John was a section foreman for C. P. & St. Louis on the Grafton branch.

DELP. Died 08-07-1955. Charles Walter Delp, 80, resident of Fieldon died Friday evening, July 8, at his home in Fieldon. He had been in failing health for sometime and seriously ill for about 3 days before his death, when he suffered a stroke. Services were held Sunday afternoon July 10, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Leonard Todd of Alton, former pastor of Christ Evangelical and Reformed church in Fieldon, officiated and burial was in Fieldon cemetery. Mr Delp was a son of the late Andrew & Jane (Goddard) Delp and was born at Grafton on July 18, 1875. He had been a resident of Fieldon for 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Birdie May Delp of Fieldon; 3 sons, Harry H, and Everett L. Delp of Fieldon and Ernest C. Delp of Jerseyville. He also leaves 15 grandchildren and 8 g-grandchildren.
DELP. Died 11-08-1977. Ernest C. Delp, 68, of W. Mulberry Jerseyville died August 11, at St. Joseph hospital in Alton. Services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Woodrow Schutz of Cottage Hills officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove. Delp was a retired electrician from Duncan Foundry. He was born on May 28, 1909 in Morgan County, a son of Charles & Birdie (Legate) Delp. His survivors include his widow, Beulah (Kraushaar) Delp; 5 Sons, Robert L, Fieldon, Donald M. Brighton, Ronald E. and Richard D. of Jerseyville and Ernest E. of Kane; 4 daughters, Mrs. Dean (Doris) Woolsey and Mrs. Ruth Ann Newton of Jerseyville, Mrs. Gerald (Brenda) Keffer of Brighton; 30 grandchildren and 9 g-grandchildren and 1 brother, h??? of Fieldon.
DELP. Died 09-10-1989. Everett M. Bud Delp, 50, died Monday, October 9, 1989, at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was president, director and trust officer of Jersey State Bank in Jerseyville for the past 12 years. He joined the bank on October 3, 1977, after working as an examiner for the Federal Deposit Ins. Corp. and is a past Treasurer of the Bond, Madison, Calhoun and Jersey Co Bankers Federation and was a Mason. Born in Jerseyville, he was the son of the late Everett & Myrtle (Kraushaar) Delp. On October 12, 1968, in Jerseyville, he married Gayle (Nelson) Delp, and she survives. Also surviving are 2 Daughters, Melodie Sauerwein of Hazelwood, Missouri, and Susan Corbin of Lawrenceville; and 2 Brothers, Rodney L. Delp and Clarence Buck Delp both of Jerseyville. An infant sister preceded him in death. Services were from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Wayne Pendleton officiated and burial was in Fieldon cemetery. Memorials may be given to America Cancer Soc.
DELP. Harry Delp, 84, died Thursday, November 19, 1987, at Jacksonville Terrace Nursing Home. Delp was a laborer with the State of Illinois before he retired. He was born in Allenton, Missouri, a son of the late Charles & Birdie Mae (Liggot) Delp. His wife, Helen Ruth (Dabbs) Delp, died in 1974. Surviving are 2 sons Charles and Joe Delp, both of Fieldon; 5 grandchildren; and 2 g-grandchildren. 1 sister, and 2 brothers preceded him in death. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Jean Erb officiated at the funeral and burial was in Fieldon cemetery. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society.
DELP. Died 21-06-1974. Helen Ruth Delp, 66, of Fieldon died June 21 at Jersey Community hospital. Services were held Sunday June 23, from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Francis M. Varble officiated with burial in Fieldon cemetery. She was born August 26, 1907 in Jerseyville, a daughter of Edward & Henrietta (Lofton) Dabbs. She is survived by her husband, Harry M. Delp; 2 sons, Charles E. Delp and Joseph N. Delp, both of Fieldon; 5 grandchildren; and 1 sister preceded her in death.
DELP. Died 09-05-1979. Joanne D. Delp, 44, of Fieldon died May 9, at Jersey Community hospital, after an extended illness. She was born June 16, 1934 in Jerseyville, a daughter of Luther & Blanche (Griffin) Howland. The funeral was held Saturday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Charles W. Pine officiated and burial was in Fieldon cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Delp; her mother, Blanche Hayes of Godfrey; 2 Sons, Clinton and Ty Lee of Fieldon; 2 daughters, Debra Laird and Robert A. Kallal of Fieldon; 1 brother, William Howland of Jerseyville; 3 Sisters, Dolores Johnson of Roxana, Norma Conrad of Jerseyville and Karen Jones of Delhi; 2 grandchildren.
DELP. Died 18-01-1972. Myrtle Iva Delp, 49, of Fieldon died January 18, at St. Joseph hospital in Alton. She had been in ill health for some time. Services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Avis Richardson officiated. Burial in Fieldon. A beautician, she was born March 13, 1922 in Jersey County, the daughter of Clarence & Lottie (Atwood) Kraushaar. She is survived by 3 sons, Rodney L, Everett M, and Clarence W. Delp, all of Jerseyville; 4 grandchildren; 1 brother, Sheman Kraushaar, Jerseyville and 2 Sisters, Mrs Ernest Delp and Mrs. Lloyd Lyles, Sr of Jerseyville.
DELP. Died 24-01-1992. Robert Laverne Delp, 61, formerly of Fieldon, died Friday and 24, 1992, at his residence. He was an electrical supervisor with Grafton Boat Works and Duncan Foundry, retiring in 1985, and a US Army Korean war veteran. Born January 1, 1931, in Fieldon he was a son of Beulah (Kraushaar) Delp Fryman of Jerseyville and the late Ernest Delp. His wife, Joann (Howland) Delp preceded him in death. He married Ollie M. (Ontis) Moy Delp, November 10, 1979, in Jerseyville. She survives. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by 2 daughters, Debra Laird of Hartville, Missouri, and Roberta Delp of Jerseyville; 2 sons, Clinton Delp of Hoisington, Kansas, and Ty Delp of Godfrey; 2 Stepdaughters, Barbara Wong of Godfrey and Teresa Woodruff of Rock Falls; 2 stepsons, David Moy of Godfrey and Kevin Moy stationed at Reese Air Force Base, Lubbock, Texas; 6 grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 3 g-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Doris Woolsey and Ruth Britt, both of Jerseyville, Brenda Keefer of Kane and Patti Kreef of Bowling Green, Kentucky; 4 Brothers, Donald Delp of Brighton, Ronald Delp and Ernest Butch Delp, both of Jerseyville and Richard Delp of Branson, Missouri; and his step father, Les Fryman of Jerseyville. 1 grandson preceded him in death.
DELZELL. Died 1887. David F. Delzell, 88, died at home 2 miles south of Jerseyville. He was born at Trenton, NJ, 1819, and was left an orphan at an early age. He worked on a farm in Philadelphia and learned the shoemakers trade in 1845. He married Miss Marnetta (Wilson) Delzell. They moved to Sacramento, California, then back to Philadelphia in 1859. In failing health, he and others equipped a train and went overland to California, taking his family with him. They came back to PA in 1868. In 1881, they came to Illinois, settling of the farm where he died. He leaves his widow, 2 daughters, Mrs. Orville A. Snedeker and Mrs. Samuel J. Snedeker; 2 sons, John C. and Benj W. Delzell.
DELZELL. Died 05-02-1904. Eugenia L. Delzell, 35, died on February 5, 1904, at her home in Fraxier (Frazier?) Park. The wife of Ben W. Delzell, nee Lambert, was mother of Emile P. and John Lambert and Mrs. Clifford B. Lindsay. Funeral February 8 from her home to St. Nicholas Church, to Calvary Cemetery. Mrs Delzell was a relative of the Snedeker families in this city. Mrs Emma and Mrs. Anna Snedeker and Miss Emma Snedeker attended the funeral.
DEMING. Edwin L. Demin, 25, died January 7, 1882. Funeral from Otterville Baptist Church under the direction of Otterville Lodge IOOF. Rev. J. N. Shelton officiated.
DEMPSEY. Died 1940. Dr. Gideon Mark Dempsey, will known dentist of Grafton, was found dead at his home. Friends received reports that he had not been seen that day. Apparent heart attack.
DEMPSEY. Died 09-1917. John Dempsey, 44, died in Alton. Rev. Fanning officiated at the funeral St. Pats church. Burial in city cemetery. He was a son of the late Luke Dempsey. He was employed on a government fleet near Grafton. He is survived by 1 sister, Mrs. Pete Junglin of Chicago and 2 brothers, James and Charles of Alton.
DEMPSEY. Died 1919. Wm. Spencer Dempsey, 78, a pioneer of Jersey County and one of its best known citizens, died Monday noon at his home in Grafton. A life long democrat, and an active worker in his party. First Mayor of Grafton, when it changed from village to city government. He served 2 years. While he was in office, the first cement sidewalks were laid in the city. He was born in Antrim, Ireland, in 1841, the son of Hugh Dempsey. The family came to the United States when he was 4 years old, stopping first in PA. In 1854 he came to Jersey County, Uncle Bill Dempsey, often told how in 1864, he drove a team of oxen across the plains to Virginia City, NV and in fall of the same year drove the first team ever, from Prickley Pear Valley and camped in Last Chance Gulch, where Helena, MT is now. After 3 years, in the west he returned by way of the Missouri river with a party of 52 men, arriving in Grafton in 1867. He engaged in business and built the Valley House in 1871. It was known at that time as the finest hotel in this part of the west. He married Jane (Brower) Dempsey of Ulster County, NT, in 1870. DENHAM. Jerseyville. Thomas P. Denham, 78, a retired Illinois Powder Co. fireman, died at 12:30 a.m., today at his home in Elsah. A son of the late James and Malvania Denham, he was born Nov. 28, 1879, at Somerest, Ky. He was married May 25, 1909 to Miss Iva Mary Hanna, who survives him. Also surviving are two sons, Orville of Melville, and Thomas R., of Elsah, and three grandchildren. The Rev. Gilder Lee Harris of Dow will conduct funeral rites Sturday at 2 p.m., in Jacoby Bros. She was married to Pete Bunzy, formerly of this area. He died nov. 26, 1951. DENNIS. Died 28-03-1991. Margaret E. Dennis, 70, former Jerseyville resident died March 28, 1991, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Charleston. Born on January 4, 1921, in Jerseyville, she was a daughter of the late Leslie & Leetta (Ewers) Day. On March 16, 1947, in Mason City, she married Donald Dennis. He survives. Also surviving are 1 Son, Stephen David Dennis of Denver, Colorado; 1 daughter, Susan Elizabeth Meacham of San Diego, California; and 2 grandchildren. Preceding her in death were 2 Sisters, Della Winter and Jean Martin. Graveside services were held at Mason City cemetery with Rev. Mark Kim officiating. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, November 23. The Grafton resident was born in Calhoun County, March 25, 1894, a son of the late Henry J. & Caroline (Volkert) Depper. Until his health failed he had followed the carpentry trade. Surviving are his wife, Lucy Depper; 1 daughter, Mrs. Orville Hoelscher of Godfrey; 3 sons, Edward R. Depper of Fieldon, Richard Depper of Utica, Michigan, and James Depper of Red Bud; 3 sisters, Mrs. Max Zimmerman of Grafton, Mrs. George Grizzle of Jerseyville, and Mrs. Wilbur Williams of Rockbridge, 10 grandchildren and 5 g-grandchildren.
DEPENDAHL. Died 15-12-1915. Henry Dependahl, 55, died December 15, at his home northwest of Brighton. He had suffered from heart trouble. Funeral from the home and Evangelical church of Brighton, with Rev. T. W. Schnathorst officiating. He was born in Fosterburg and he had lived 30 years in Jersey County. Surviving are his father, John Dependahl of Fosterburg; 2 brothers, will of Brighton and John of Fosterburg; and 4 sisters, Mrs. Neubiuege and Mrs. Henry Gvillo and Mrs. Geo. Atkins of Fosterburg and Mrs. O. S. Straubbe of Alton.
DEPENDAHL. Died 13-03-1984. Minnie J. Dependahl, 97, died March 13, at DAdrian convalescent center, Godfrey. Services were held at St. John United Church of Christ, Brighton, with Rev. Henry Lippert officiating. Burial was in Brighton cemetery. She was born December 31, 1886 in Jersey County, daughter of the late Henry & Emma (Oertel) Dependahl and was a cook at the Eunice Smith Nursing Home, Alton, between 25-30 years. Her only survivors are 3 nieces, Gloria Suessen, East Alton, Heflen Hill, Brighton, and Ruth Stewart, Bethalton. Warner-Targhetta Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to St. John church.
DEPENDAHL. Died 03-1959. Robert Dependahl, 36, a farmer in Piasa Township, lost his life in a drowning accident in a lake on the property of Truman Jones, near the Dependahl farm. Mr Dependahl suffered the loss of his left arm in an ensilage cutter accident, October 11, 1957. He had completely recovered from that accident and was carrying on his farming operation. Monday afternoon he left home to go fishing and when he had not returned by evening a search was started for him. The search centered around the lake after some of his fishing equipment was found nearby and a boat missing. A request for help made to the sheriffs office in Jerseyville was relayed by civilian defense director Robert Reese to the Grafton volunteer emergency corps. The corpse was met in Jerseyville by Sheriff Howard Dick Perdun and Deputy Melvin E. Leach who accompanied them to the site. Through dragging efforts the body was recovered that night. The boat which he had used to go out onto the lake to bring up a net was found not too far from where the body was recovered. Dependahl had apparently attempted to swim to safety after the boat had capsized as the body was found about 10 ft from the shore. Coroner Rodney Jacoby was notified and the body was removed to Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home. Mr Dependahl, an only son of Mr. & Mrs. William Dependahl of Piasa Township, was born in Jersey County July 15, 1922. In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Virginia (Cornelius) Dependahl and 1 sister, Mrs. Leo J. (Helen) Hill of Indianapolis, IN. The decedent was a veteran of WWII and at the time of death he was a member of St. John Evangelical church of Brighton, and the American Legion Post in Brighton. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Harvey Meckfessel of Brighton officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.
DEPENDAHL. Died 10-11-1973. William F. Dependahl, 89, a retired farmer, died November 10, at Alton Memorial hospital after 7 weeks illness. Funeral services were conducted at St. John United Church of Christ in Brighton. Dr. Emil Bassler officiated and burial was in Brighton cemetery. Born February 24, 1884 in Piasa Township, he was the son of the late Henry & Emma (Oertel) Dependahl. He married Bertha (Bauer) Dependahl November 12, 1909 and made their home on the Dependahl farm where he was born and reared. His wife and 1 son Robert preceded him in death. Surviving are 1 daughter, Mrs. Leo (Helen) Hill of Brighton; 1 grandson; and 2 sisters, Minnie Dependahl, Brighton, and Mrs. Alma Neubauer, Bethalto.
DEPPER. Died 07-11-1988. Dennis Depper, 35, died November 7, 1988 at Barnes hospital in St. Louis, following a brief illness. Depper, who had taught school since 1981, had been employed by Northwestern School District at Palmyra the past 4 years. Born in Carrollton, he was the son of Harold Depper of Delhi & Irene (Starner) Depper of Jerseyville. In addition to his parents, survivors are 1 brother, Maurice Depper of Hillsboro; 2 Sisters, Sandra Thompson of Godfrey and Lisa Depper of Jerseyville; and his paternal grandmother, Lola Calame of Alton. Visitation was held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were at the first southern Baptist Church in Jerseyville. Revs Frank Marshall and Ron Woodrum officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church where Mr. Depper was a member.
DEPPER. Edward Depper, 84, died January 2, 1989, at his residence, following a lengthy illness. Depper retired in 1970 from Olin Corporation of East Alton after 30 years of service. Born in Golden Eagle, he was the son of the late John & Olphia (Qualls) Depper. His wife Lillian (Lane) Depper, died December 10, 1988. Surviving are 3 sons, Harold Depper of Delhi, Julius Pete Depper of Piasa and Robert Depper of Alton; 2 Daughters, Doris Denby of Carlinville and Barbara McCoy of Alton; 15 grandchildren; and 25 g-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were 1 son, Paul Depper; 1 daughter, Betty; 3 brothers, Fred, Jack, and Joe Depper; and 1 sister, Minnie Wise. Visitation was at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Schultz, 4 brothers, Henry of Dow, William and Martin of Golden Eagle, and Fred of West Frankfort, IL; and 4 grandchildren. He had lived in Calhoun County until 1919 when he moved to Grafton.

Orlen Lane officiated and burial was in Hartford cemetery, Grafton. He was born September 4, 1894 in Grafton, a son of John F. & Ophelia (Quail) Depper and had formerly worked in a saw mill. She worked for International Shoe Company, Jerseyville for 18 years, and was a nurses aide at Jersey Community hospital 15 years, retiring in 1976. Born in Mississippi County, Missouri, her parents were the late Abraham & Cordie (Pullum) Lane. Her first husband, died November 15, 1952. She later married Edward Depper, and he survives. Also surviving are 3 sons, Clarence J. and Robert E. Sams, both of Jerseyville, and Lloyd M. Sams of St. Jocob; 9 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Orlen, Delbert and David Lane, all of Jerseyville; and 1 sister, Juanita Thomas of Jerseyville. Preceding her in death were 2 brothers, Leonard and Audris Lane. Visitation was at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at Gospel Assembly Church in Jerseyville. Rev. DERBY. Died 06-09-1925. Charles R. Derby, 98, former Jerseyville resident, died Sunday September 6, at the home of his son, Harry C. Derby after 3 months illness. He leaves 3 children, Mrs. Ella Dinwiddie, Kansas City, Missouri; Mrs. Olver M. Darr, of Lebanon, Missouri; Mr. Harry C. Derby of Quincy, Illinois. Burial Was in Lebanon, Missouri by the side of his wife who died in Lebanon also. He was born in Bridgeport, VT in 1825 (1827?). He came with his parents in 1852 and with exception of about 10 years had been a Jerseyville resident.
DERBY. Died 1926. Hal Derby, 54, formerly of Jersey County, now of Houston, Texas. Was found dead in bed at Orange, Texas, where he had been working. A F. Pitt received a telegram from Houston, stating that Mrs. Pitts brother, had been found. Death due to paralysis. Family home in Houston, Texas.

Funeral services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Father Robert Heintz of Holy Ghost church officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs Darlington was the mother of Mrs. George (Stella) Havens of Jerseyville. Surviving in addition to her daughter are 2 grandchildren; 1 brother; and 1 sister.

Father Robert Heintz of Church of Holy Ghost, Jerseyville officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs. Derrington, mother of Mrs George (Stella) Havens of Jerseyville had been at Elder Care Nursing Home in Alton. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, February 27, 1886. Surviving are her daughter and 2 grandchildren and 1 brother.
DERRY. Died 13-02-1918. Mrs Emma Derry, 78, died February 13, at the home of her son in law, Hon. H. S. Daniels. For the past 9 years she had made her home with the Daniels family, having come to Jerseyville after the death of her mother at Springfield, Illinois. Her husband, James H. Derry died 12 years ago. Survivors are 1 brother, Nelson Allyn of Springfield; 2 grandchildren, Stewart and Elizabeth Daniels of Jerseyville. Her sister, Mrs. Alva Flood, Sr of San Francisco, California, died within a day after the death of Mrs. Derrys daughter, Mrs. Castelle Daniels, about 1 1/2 years ago. Funeral from Daniels home. Rev. F. O. Wilson officiating with burial in Oak Ridge cemetery, at Springfield, Illinois. She was born in Winchester, Illinois, August 27 1840. Her father was Rev. Norman Allyn of the ME church.
DESHASIER. Died 16-06-1982. Mrs Josephine Deshasier of Carrollton, died June 16, at Greene Meadows Nursing Home in White Hall, where she had resided since 1973. Born March 28, 1889 in Greene County, she was a daughter of John & Louisa (Webber) Seimer. Her Husband, Harry Deshasier, died in 1931. Surviving are 2 daughters, Evelyn Lakin of Berdan and Louise Shaw of White Hall; 3 sons, Harold Deshasier of Granite City, Charles Deshasier of White Hall and Harry Deshasier of NE; 36 grandchildren, and several great and g-g-grandchildren. 2 brothers and 2 sisters preceded her in death. DESHERLIA. Died 03-1983. Adam H. Desherlia, 69, of Route 4, who had served as Chief of Police for 10 years, died at St. Anthony Hospital, Alton following a lengthy illness. Until retiring in 1976, Desherlia had also served as Jersey County Deputy Sheriff for 8 years and Jersey County sheriff for 4 years. The WWII veteran was born in Deer Plain, a son of the Late Stephen and Anna (Besaw) Desherlia. On November 4, 1978, he married Ruth (Ayers) Desherlia and she survives. Also surviving are 3 daughters, Beverly Greenlee and Dottie May Koenig both of Jerseyville, and Henrietta Klunk of Kane; 1 stepson, Gordon Hughes of St. Charles, Missouri; 1 stepdaughter, Mary Beth Sewing of Mt. olive; 8 grandchildren; and 2 g-grandchildren. Visitation was from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. A Masonic service was held by Lodge 394 AF & AM. Services were conducted at the Funeral Home with Rev. Simon A. Simon officiating. Burial was in Scenic Hill cemetery, where American Legion Post 492 conducted military rites. Memorials may be given to Illinois Sheriff Association.
DESHERLIA. Died 14-03-1983. Adam H. Desherlia, 69, of Rural Route 4, Jerseyville, former Sheriff of Jersey County and Grafton Chief of Police, died Monday March 14, at St. Anthony hospital, Alton. He was born January 21, 1914 in Deer Plain, the son of the late Stephen & Anna (Besaw) Desherlia. He served in the US Army during WW II in the European theatre. He was Chief of Police of Grafton for 10 years, served as Sheriff of Jersey County for 1 term and was a Deputy Sheriff for 8 years. He retired in 1976. He was a member of the Illinois Sheriff Association, Illinois Police Association, American Legion Post 492; Veterans of Foreign War Post 4528, Jerseyville Masonic Lodge and a member of First Presbyterian church in Jerseyville. He married Ruth (Ayers) Desherlia November 4, 1978 in Jerseyville. She survives as do 3 Daughters, Beverly Greenlee and Dottie May Koenig, both of Jerseyville and Henrietta Klunk of Kane; 1 stepson, Gordon Hughes of St. Charles, Missouri, 1 stepdaughter, Mary Beth Sewing of Mt. Olive; 8 grandchildren, 3 g-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 3 sisters. Services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Simon A. DESHERLIA. Died 09-04-1981. Anna Grace Desherlia, 52, of Rural Route Fieldon was pronounced died at her home, April 9, from a gunshot wound. Visitation and services were held from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Robert Barber of the Fieldon Baptist Church officiated and burial was in Fieldon cemetery. Born July 14, 1928 in Jersey County, she was a daughter of George & Irene (Cope) Wadlow Sr. She married Claude Desherlia in November 1947 in St. Louis. Survivors her husband; her parents; 3 Sons, Chino Bob Desherlia, Rosewood Heights, Dale and Daniel R. of Fieldon; 5 grandchildren; 2 brothers, George Bud Wadlow and Stewart Wadlow of Jerseyville; 4 Sisters, Thelma Moore of Flint, Michigan, Opal Moholon, Peggy Ridenbark and Susie Godar, Fieldon. She was preceded in death by 1 son, 4 sisters and 1 brother. Memorials may be given to the heart fund.

The daughter of the late James & Sabina (Knowlton) Smith, she was born July 4, 1878 at Batchtown. Her husband, William Desherlia, preceded her in death. Surviving are 1 son, Ross Desherlia of Grafton; 3 daughters, Mrs. Charles Novotny of St. Louis, Mrs. Ruby Bensa and Mrs. Harvey Staton of Grafton; 25 grandchildren and 61 g-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Miss Ruby Smith of Meppen. Her parents, her husband, 4 brothers and 4 sisters preceded her in death.

Robert Kimber officiated and burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park. He had retired as a policeman from the Grafton Police Dept. He was born July 4, 1897 in Calhoun County, a son of Stephen & Anna (Besaw) Desherlia. A WWI veteran, he was a member of Whalen Hill Post American Legion, Grafton. Surviving are his widow, Katherine (Blaney) Desherlia; 2 daughters, Mrs. Allison (Harriet) Crisp of Greenville, NC and Mrs. William (Dorothy) Rich of New Liberia, LA; 2 son, James H. of Jerseyville and Morse Desherlia of Alton; 19 grandchildren; 7 g-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Adam Deshserlia and Elmer Desherlia of Jerseyville and Stephen of Peoria. Graveside services were in charge of Grafton American Legion.
DESHERLIA. Died 11-12-1982. Elmer Thomas Desherlia, 74, of Grafton, died December 11, at Christian ne Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri. He was born January 19, 1908 in Grafton, a son of Stephen & Anna (Besaw) Desherlia. He retired as a pipefitter out of Local 553 in 1972. He is survived by his wife, Janmine (Billings) Desherlia, whom he married December 12, 1930; 2 sons, Charles of Las Vegas, Nevada and Gene, of Alton, 2 daughters, Rose Mary Slaten and Glenna Belle McCoy, Both of Grafton; 1 brother, Adam Desherlia of Jerseyville; 20 grandchildren and 18 g-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Services were held December 14 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial was in Scenic Hill cemetery, Grafton. Memorials may be given to Grafton Methodist church.

Interment was in Hartford cemetery. She is survived by 1 son, William of Grafton; 2 daughters, Mrs. Ed (Grace) Boerner of Fosterburg and Mrs. Elmer (Doris) Weishapl of St. Hedwig, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 5 g-grandchildren; 1 brother, Orville Waters of Keyesport; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Ben (Arvella) Brown and Violet Peeler of Benicia, CA. Her husband, Homer Desherlia, died in 1962. Her parents and 1 son also preceded her in death.

Surviving are 2 sons, Michael E. and Lloyd Lee Desherlia both of Golden Eagle; 1 daughter, Irma Fay Desherlia of Golden Eagle; 1 brother, Harry Seidler of Batchtown; and 5 sisters, Claudine Voke and Juanita Griffin, both of East St. Louis, Eilene Paris of Caseyville, Leanora Titus of Golden Eagle and Zelora Downard of Washington state. Visitation was from Hanks Funeral Home in Brussels. Services were at St. Matthew Lutheran church, Brussels, with Vicar Don McKelvey officiating. Burial was in Seidler cemetery in Golden Eagle.
DESHERLIA. Died 16-01-1991. Marie Blanche Desherlia, 79, died January 16, 1991, at St. Anthony Hospital, Alton. Born in Texarkana, AR, she was the daughter of the Late Ralph & Nellie Crawford. She married Ross Desherlia June 28, 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri, and he survives. Also surviving are 2 sons, Paul Desherlia of Tallahassee, FL, and Claude Desherlia of Nutwood; 2 daughters, Peggy Ann Burns and Joyce Senger, both of Grafton; 26 grandchildren; 55 g-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Bobby Crawford of Arnold, Missouri and Roy Crawford of St. Louis; 2 sisters, Mildred Regan and Margaret Huer, both of St. Louis. Preceding her in death were 2 daughters, Dorothy Hodge and Delores Berrigan. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were from First Baptist Church, Grafton. Rev. William Hendricks officiated and burial was in Hartford cemetery near Pere Marquette State Park. Memorials may be given to Grafton senior citizens.

Born September 24, 1957 in Jersey County, she was daughter of Richard L. & Milba (Sprong) Daiker. She leaves her husband, Charles, parents, 3 daughters, Christie Curry, Candice Desherlia and Charlie Jo Desherlia all at home; 2 brothers, Richard Daiker of Ft. Campbell, Kentucky and George Daiker of Grafton, 4 Sisters, Brenda Seattle of Grafton, Vickie Daiker of New Iberia, Margaret Daiker and Ethel Daiker of Grafton, and Grandparents, Franz & Inez Sprong of Hamburg and Wesley & Ethel Johnsonk of Grafton. DESHERLIA. Died 21-02-1982. William Bill Desherlia, 57, of Grafton, a conservation officer for the State of Illinois, died at Jersey Community hospital following an extended illness. The WWII Navy veteran was born January 17, 1925 at Grafton, a son of the late Homer & Elsie (Waters) Desherlia. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, VFW and American Legion, 40 & 8 Voiture and Ducks Unlimited. He is survived by his wife, Mary B. (Keller) Desherlia whom he married October 1, 1947 in Grafton; 4 sons, William Jr., Christopher, Danny and Joe, all of Grafton; 5 grandchildren; 1 sister, Grace Boerner of Fosterburg. His parents, 1 brother, John and 1 Sister, Doris Weishapel, preceded him in death. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton. The funeral mass was celebrated at St. Patrick church with Father Joseph Deneen and Father Anthony Schmidt as concelebrants. The Grafton American Legion conducted graveside rites at Hartford cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church.
DETWILER. Died 19-04-1973. Lois Ann Detwiler, 35, of Waukegan, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Ussery of Jerseyville, died April 19, at St. Therese Hospital. Final services were held from Peterson Funeral Home and burial was in Northshore Garden of Memories. She was born in Plymouth October 17, 1937 and had attended Jerseyville public schools where she was graduated in 1955. She also attended Blackburn College where she met and married Don Detwiler in June, 1956 they had resided in Waukegan for 16 years, where Mr. Detwiler is a teacher in Hyland Park schools. Survivors are her husband, 2 children, Lee and Kathy, both at home; 1 sister, Mrs. Mary Lee Dilks of Godfrey; 2 brothers, Dale Ussery of Huron, SD, and Gerald Ussery of Marietta, GA; and her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Cecil Bechdoldt.
DEUCKER. Died 06-1984. Juanita Deucker, 67, of Rosewood heights, died at Wood River Township Hospital. Born in Jerseyville, daughter of the late James & Addie (Ford) Jones. She was a practical nurse for the Alton-Wood River area. She married Lee Roy Deucker in February 1968 in Alton and he survives. Also surviving are 4 sisters, Mary Hester of Eugene, OR, Dora Lilley, Alton, Lulu Pickett of Portland, OR, and Mavel Meyers of Jerseyville. Visitation was held at Gent Chapel in Alton where services were held. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
DEUCKER. Died 03-09-1987. Stella Deucker, 96, of Alton died September 3, 1987, at her residence. She was born in Jersey County, a daughter of the late John & Alta (Queen) Thompson. On February 16, 1908, in East St. Louis, she married Edward Leo Deucker, he died April 16, 1957. Surviving are 1 daughter, Virginia Marshall of Cottage Hills; 3 Sons, Ernest and Lester Both of Godfrey and Leroy of Rosewood Heights. 7 grandchildren; 14 g-grandchildren; 1 gg-grandchild; and 2 sisters, Leona Atstroth and Lucy Bornes, both of Alton. She was preceded in death by 1 son, Harry Deucker; 1 sister and 4 brothers. Visitation and services were held at Gent Funeral Home, Alton. Rev. Bruce Pullen officiated and burial was in Upper Alton cemetery. Memorials may be given to Elm St. Presbyterian Church where she had been a long-time member.
DEVENING. Died 25-06-1974. Agnes Bernice Devening, 66, of Fieldon died June 22, at St. Johns Mercy Hospital. Born May 4, 1908 in Bluffdale she was the daughter of Nicholas & Gertrude (Combes) Goshorn. Her husband Pearl Devening died in 1968. Visitation and funeral were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Leonard Todd officiated. Burial was in Gunterman cemetery. Survivors are 1 son, Charles Devening of Tacoma, Washington; 2 daughters, Mrs. Henry (Lena) Goeman of Fieldon and Mrs. Terry (Joan) Irvin of Centralia; 12 grandchilddren; 8 g-grandchildren and 1 brother William Goshorn of Summerville, SC. Her parents, husband, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters preceded her in death.
DEVENING. Died 09-02-1975. Alberta Devening, 50, died at her home on February 9. She was employed as a clerk in the ASCS office at Hardin. Funeral services were held at St. Norbert church, Hardin. Born September 14, 1908 in Hardin, he was a son of the late Lee & Catherine (Hamilton) Devening and was a farmer and trustee of Gunterman cemetery. His survivors include 1 son, Guy Devening of Fieldon; 3 daughters, Marie Jackson, Medora, Katherine Wessel, Fieldon; and 2 sisters, Hazel Devening and Margaret Hagen, both of Fieldon; 13 grandchildren. His wife, Minnie Hagen, died November 15, 1982. Masonic services were conducted by Fieldon Lodge. Memorials may be given to Gunterman cemetery.
DEVENING. Died 23-11-1989. Elsie Winona Devening, 64, died November 23, 1989, at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville. Born in Calhoun County, she was the daughter of the late Willis Braid & Mary E. (Ibuchanan) Blackorby. She married Paul Devening, October 1, 1941, in Elsberry, Missouri. He died November 19, 1979. Surviving are 1 son, Gary Devening of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Ferne Audrey Ridenour of Godfrey and Rose Mary Oglesby of Fieldon; 6 grandchildren; 1 brother, Leon Blackorby of Jerseyville and 2 sisters, Minnie Long and Leona Blackorby. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at Fieldon United Church of Christ with Rev. Jean Erb officiating. Burial was in Fieldon cemetery. Memorials may be given to Fieldon church where she was a member.
DEVENING. Died 1914. Frederick Devening, 84, died at his home northwest of Fieldon. Rev. Wilson conducted services with burial in Gunterman cemetery. He was born at Essen, Germany, April 10, 1834. He landed in New Orleans in 1853,then went to Burlington, IA. From there he went to Silver Creek in Calhoun County, then to Greene County and then to Jersey County in 1871. He married Mary R. (Thurston) Devening on September 28, 1861. They were parents of 9 children – 7 boys & 2 girls. He leaves his widow, 6 children and 16 g-grandchildren.
DEVENING. Died 18-08-1951. James W. Devening, 80, a farmer of E. Hardin, died August 18 at Boyd Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. He was born in Jersey County September 23, 1875, and for many years was engaged in farming. He is survived by 3 daughters, Mrs. Louis Powers of Fieldon, Mrs. Harry Lyles of Jerseyville and Mrs George Henneberg of White Hall, 4 sons, Earl & Percy of Jerseyville and Roy & Ned Devening of Fieldon. He also leaves 2 brothers, Henry and Lee Devening of Fieldon, 33 grandchildren and 26 g-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at his home near E. Hardin, August 20, by Rev. Edward Fresen, pastor of Christ Evangelical & Reformed church in Fieldon. Interment was in Gunterman cemetery.
DEVENING. Died 01-1970. Lena Z. Devening, 80, died at Passavant hospital in Jacksonville. Visitation and service was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Carlton Christenson of Jerseyville, officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. A retired cook, she was born January 27, 1890 in Jerseyville the daughter of David U & Sophia Zellar. She was a member of First Baptist Church and held membership in the Royal Neighbors of America and Ruby Rebekah Lodge. Her only survivors are nieces. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church.
DEVENING. Died 25-01-1982, buried Grimes cemetery. Lillian P. Devening, 89, of Route 3 Jerseyville died January 25, at Jersey Community hospital. She was born in Jersey County, June 12, 1892, the daughter of William & Ellen (Chance) Decker. Survivors are 1 grandson, Ronald Heraty, N Palm Beach, Florida; 2 Granddaughters, Carol Yocom of Jerseyville and Linda Winders of Mesa, AZ; and 7 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl, who died in 1958; 1 son, William Heraty and 1 grandson, William Heraty. Memorials may be given to ones choice.

She was born November 1, 1909 in Jersey County, a daughter of Henry & Elizabeth (Schmeller) Hagen. Survivors are her husband, Edwin, whom she married July 18, 1940 in Elsberry, Missouri; 1 son, Guy Devening of Fieldon; 3 daughters, Marie Jackson, Medora, Katherine Wessel, Fieldon, and Pearl Snyders, Batchtown; 12 grandchildren and 1 sister, Dorothy Thomas of Fieldon. DEVENING. Died 26-04-1978. Ned Devening, 66, Fieldon, died April 26, at St. Joseph hospital in Alton. He was born October 14, 1911 in Greene County, the son of James W & Hester (Mefford) Devening. He was a machinist for Olin Corporation. Survivors are his wife, Ruth M. (Pruitt) Devening; 1 son, Robert Devening of Jerseyville; 1 daughter, Mrs. Deloris Dahn, Jerseyville; 2 sisters, Mrs. Edna Lyles and Mrs. Leta Henneburg, both of Jerseyville; 7 grandchildren and 1 g-grandchild. Visitation and services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial was in Fieldon cemetery.
DEVENING. Died 19-11-1979. Paul Devening, 60, a farmer of Route 1 Fieldon, suffered a heart attack while taking a load of corn in his pickup to the elevator. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the scene in Richwood Township November 19. He was born May 4, 1919 in Jersey County, a son of Lee & Katie (Hamilton) Devening. Survivors are his wife, Elsie (Blackorby) Devening; 1 son, Gary Devening of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Ferne Ridenour of Godfrey and Rosemary Oglesby of Jerseyville; 2 brothers, Edward and Truman Devening of Fieldon; 2 sisters, Hazel Dunham and Margaret Hagen of Fieldon; and 5 granddaughters.

Emma Caroline Devening, 91 years, 7 months, 6 days, of Kane, died February 5, at Watson Nursing Home in Jerseyville where she had been a patient for the past 2 and a half years. Mrs. Devening was born in Greene County, June 29, 1868, a daughter of the late William Russell and Mary Ann (Edwards) Mullikin. She was a member of the Church of Christ of Kane and held membership in the Royal Neighbors Lodge of Kane. She is survived by 2 sons, Mark F. Devening, Sr. of Dow and Clifton W. Devening of Kane; 6 grandchildren; 9 g-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Mrs. Pauline Devening of Jerseyville. Her husband, William Fredrick Devening, and 1 daughter, Ida Ann Devening preceded her in death.
DEVENING. Died 06-06-1968. Pearl Devening, 61 years, 8 months, 6 days, a farmer of the Fieldon area, was found died at his home by a neighbor on June 6. Mr Devenings wife is a patient at Green Lawn Nursing Home in Jerseyville and he had been living alone. Visitation and services were from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Leonard Todd, former pastor of Christ United Church of Christ in Fieldon, officiated and burial was in Gunterman cemetery in Richwood Township. Mr Devening was a son of the late George & Lena (Weisner) Devening, and was born in Jersey County September 30, 1906. Surviving are his wife, 1 son, sgt Charles J. Devening of Fayetteville, NC; 2 daughters, Mrs. Henry Goeman of Fieldon and Mrs. Paul W. Long, of Route 4, Jerseyville, and 10 grandchildren.
DEVERGER. Died 09-08-1981. Daisy Mae Deverger, 84, of Fieldon died at Normandy Osteopathic Hospital, St. Louis. She was born in Calhoun County January 6, 1897, a daughter of the late William & Ellen Margaret (Moffett) Gray. Mrs Deverger was a member of Hardin Eastern Star Chapter 990, Presbyterian Church and Hardin VFW Aux. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Daniel Johnson of Hardin officiated and burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. Survivors are 2 sons, Howard and Judson of Fieldon; 1 Daughter, Eva Tucker of Fieldon; 9 grandchildren; 8 g-grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren and 1 foster granddaughter. Her husband, whom she married November 7, 1915, died September 17, 1974. Memorials may be given to American Diabetes Assoc. or Hardin Presbyterian Church.

He was born September 22, 1894 in Calhoun County the son of the late Frederick & Eva (Ingle) Deverger. Surviving are his wife, Daisy (Gray) Deverger, 2 sons, Howard Jr., and Judson Deverger of Fieldon; 1 daughter, Mrs. Eva Tucker of Avondale, CO; 9 grandchildren; 5 g-grandchildren; 5 sisters, Mrs. Opal Davis, Mrs. Pearl Keith, and Mrs. Emma Monroe, all of California, Mrs. Ed (Rose) Dinga of AZ and Mrs. Mildred Lee of Miss. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, 1 grandsons and 3 sisters. Visitation and services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. James O. Jarrell officiated (sept 20) and burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. Masonic rites were held.
DEVLIN. Died 03-03-1975. Doris Jean Devlin (Mrs Arthur), 50, of Culver City, California, died unexpectedly March 3, at a hospital there after a brief illness. She was the daughter of Mrs. Delmar (Pearl) Gabbett of Jerseyville and sister of Robert French of Jerseyville and Wayne Gabbett of Godfrey. She was born October 29, 1924 in Jerseyville and attended the local schools. She had lived in CA Since 1948 and was a known commercial artist. In addition to her mother and brothers, she is survived by her husband; 3 daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Janet) Griffith, Mrs. Linda Crossar and Jennifer Norman; 2 sons, Robert and Jack Norman, all of California; and 5 grandchildren. Funeral was conducted March 5, at Roosevelt Memorial Park in Los Angeles, CA.
DEWEES. Louis A. Dewees, 69 years, 9 months, 13 days, passed away on July 23, 1927, at his home in Alton. He was united in marriage to Mahalia (Austin) Dewees at Grafton in 1875. He was born in Grafton on October 8, 1857. Surviving are his wife, 4 daughters, Mrs. John Busse, Mrs. F. A. Erhardt, Mrs. Edward Schwartzbeck, and Mrs. Albert Klien; 1 nephew, Albert Austin (adopted) and was raised by Mr. Dewees. Besides a host of other relatives and friends. He was a member of Franklin Lodge, No. 25, AF & AM of Alton. He also was a member of Fraternal Order of the Owls. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at Hartford church, Rev. C. J. Struebing officiating. Burial was in Hartford cemetery.

The remains were brought to Harvey Mason Home, Mrs. Harvey (Ida) Mason is her daughter. In Jerseyville. Funeral from the home with Rev. Catt. Burial in Oak Grove cemetery. She was born April 17, 1848, in Wabash County, Illinois. She took care of her aged mother, Mrs. Dyer, and her aunt, Miss Mary M(N)elson. Her mother died 5 months ago. She leaves her aunt, 2 daughters, and 4 grandchildren.
DEWERFF. Died 05-1928. Emma Dewerff, 87, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Tuetkin. She had formerly lived at Moro and was married to Henry Dewerff, who preceded her in death. She leaves 2 daughters, Mrs. Herman Herren of Alton and Mrs. Tuetkin; 2 sons, he and George Dewerff of Moro. Funeral from the family home by Lutheran church. Burial in Moro cemetery.
DICKERMAN. Died 21-10-1979. Donald L. Dickerman, 56, of Fidelity died October 21 at Jersey Community hospital. He was born August 28, 1923 in Ellsberry, Missouri, the son of John Wesley & Stella Muriel Dickerman and was a construction worker. He was a member of Jerseyville American Legion, VFW and Eagles Lodge. Surviving are 3 Brothers, Robin of Tenesca, Norman of Jerseyville and Antone of Payson; and 2 Sisters, Mildred McDaniels of Jerseyville and Helen Rodell of Fidelity. His parents preceded him in death. Visitation and services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. William Elder officiated and burial was in Oak Lawn cemetery, Fidelity. Military services were conducted. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society.
DICKERMAN. Died 19-12-1972. John Wesley Dickerman, 86, died at Jersey Community hospital. He had been residing at the Morgan Hotel here and had been ill for 6 months. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Everett Chambers, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was in Oakland cemetery, near Fidelity. Graveside services by Worthey Post American Legion and VFW. Mr Dickerman, a son of the late Antone & Eliza Jane (Richey) Dickerman, was born October 31, 1886, in Bellview. He served with the army in WWI. Surviving are 4 Sons, Donald L. of Fidelity, Robin W. of Littelton, Norman L, of Jerseyville, and Antone D. of Quincy; 2 daughters, Mrs. Helen Rodell of Fidelity and Mrs. Sadie McDaniels of Greenfield; 1 brother, Smith Dickerman of Pittsfield; 22 grandchildren, and 13 g-grandchildren. He was preceded in death of his parents, sisters, 2 brothers, and 1 daughter.
DICKERSON. Died 21-03-1898. Jeanette Dickerson, 38, sister of Mrs. J. M. Ingersoll of Jerseyville, died at her home in Brighton on March 21, 1898. Jeanette (Robertson) Dickerson, was born at the old Marston home 3 miles south of Delhi, Jersey County, Illinois, July 22, 1861. She married L. Marshall Dickerson December 15, 1886. Surviving are her husband; 2 sons, Donald and Courtney, 3 sisters and 1 brother. Funeral at the home. Owing to the contagious nature of the disease but few were present, although many followed the remains to the city cemetery after the service by Rev. Taylor.
DICKINSON. Died 06-30-1974. Nellie Dikinson, 73, of Jerseyville, died June 30 at Jersey Community hospital. Funeral services were held July 3, from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Where visitation was held. Rev. Dorcie hill officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. She was born September 12, 1900 in Jersey County, the daughter of the late William F. & Lena Schreiber. Her husband was the late Howard B. Dickinson. Surviving are 1 sister, Mrs. L. O. (Emma) Davis of Maplewood, Missouri; and 2 brothers, Frank and Carl Loellke, both of Jerseyville.
DIEMUNSCH. Died 08-01-1928. Edward H. Diemunsch, 46, died in St. Louis, January 8, after an appendix operation. His ashes were brought to Jerseyville and final commitment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Short burial services at the mausoleum by local AF & AM Lodge. Previous services at McLaughlins funeral parlor in St. Louis. He was born February 4, 1882 and reared in Jerseyville. He leaves his wife Evelyn L. and Son, Jerome O. He was a superintendent of the roundhouse at Brooklyn, Illinois.
DIEMUNSCH. Died 31-05-1926, Leo Diemunsch, died in St. Louis May 31, 1926. He was the son of Sarah & Emile Diemunsch and was born and reared in Jerseyville. Funeral in St. Louis with burial in Missouri Crematory.

She was the former Sarah Haegky, born January 16, 1854 in Chicago and married to Emile Diemunsch in 1872. Mr Diemunsch died November 19, 1899. She leaves 3 sons and 1 daughter; and 3 grandchildren. Funeral from German Evangelical church, Rev. Hempel officiating. Burial in Oak Grove cemetery.
DIERKING. Died 15-12-1990. Ida Marie Dierking, 65, died December 15, 1990 at Jersey Community hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Greene County, she was the daughter of Sarah (Price) Malin of White Hall and the late David Swarringin. Her husband Oliver J. Dierking Sr., died January 20, 1973. In addition to her mother, survivors are 2 daughters, Carol E. Reno and Deborah Dierking, both of Jerseyville; 1 son, Oliver J. DIERKING. Died 30-07-1973. Iva lorena Dierking, 80, of Jerseyville, died July 30 at Jersey Community hospital. Funeral rites were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Everett Chambers officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. She was born January 27, 1893 in Calhoun Co. Her husband Harrison Dierking, preceded her in death. She is survived by 2 daughters, Miss Bonavier Diering and Mrs. Ramond (Lotus) Tapen of Carrollton; 2 sons, Nolan of Grafton and Merle of Chillicothe; 12 grandchildren; 7 g-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Mrs. Otto Wilson of Jerseyville. Her husband, 1 son, Forrest, 1 granddaughter and 1 g-granddaughter preceded her in death.
DIERKING. Died 16-06-1979. Nolan A. Dierking, 67, of Jerseyville was dead on arrival June 16, at Jersey Community hospital. Born August 20, 1911 in Hamburg, he was the son of the late Harrison K & Iva (Ansell) Dierking and was a millwright. His survivors are his Wife, Myra (Fitzpatrick) Dierking; 4 Sons, Jim of Pontiac, John of Grafton, Joe of Jerseyville and Pat of Carrollton; 3 daughters, Mary Scoggins of Jerseyville, Margaret Davies, Pleasant Valley, Missouri and Ann Hunter, Grafton; 1 brother, Merle Dierking, Peoria and 2 Sisters, Bonavier of Jerseyville and Lotus Tapen, Carrollton. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral mass was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier church with Father Patrick Morrow, celebrant. Burial in St. Francis cemetery.
DIERKING. Died 01-1973. Oliver J. Dierking, 49, of Jerseyville, died at Jersey Community hospital Saturday night a short time after he was moved there. Mr Dierking was a disabled war veteran. Visitation and services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. William Monroe of White Hall officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr Dierking, son of the late Oliver & Pearl Johnson Dierking, was born in Carrollton, February 7, 1923, and would have been 50 years old next month. He is survived by his wife, Ida S. Dierking; 2 daughters, Mrs. Edgar (Carole) Reno and Deborah Dierking of Jerseyville; 1 son, Oliver of Jerseyville; 3 sisters, Mrs. Truman Forster of Jerseyville, Mrs. Lloyd Fry of Roodhouse and Mrs. Vance Marago of CA, and 1 grandchild.
DIESTELHORST. Died 21-10-1991. Jean M. Dieselhorst, 35, died October 21, 1991, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, after a short illness. Born November 22, 1955, in Alton, she was the daughter of Harriett (Moran) Sweet of Wood River and the late Arthur Sweet. On March 15, 1985, in Creve Coeur, Missouri, she married Jeffrey Diestelhorst. He survives. Also surviving are 2 sons, Joshua and Jonathan Diestelhorst, both at home; and 2 brothers, Dean Sweet of Wood River and Alan Sweet of Stratford, Conn. Visitation from Targhetta Funeral Home in Brighton. Services were from Hope Lutheran church in Jerseyville. Rev. Mark Etter officiated with burial in Brighton cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family in care of the Funeral Home.
DIETERICH. Died 18-04-1980. Philip A. Dieterich Jr., 28, son of Mr. & Mrs. Philip A. Dieterich Sr., died unexpectedly April 18 in Safety Harbor, Florida. His mother is the former Faye Dare of Jerseyville. In addition to his parents he is survived by 1 sister, Mrs. John Holland of Martinsburg, West Virginia. Services were held at Bisco Funeral Home with burial in Sylvan Abbey Mem Park in Safety Harbor. Edith Gamerdinger received word of his death.
DIETZ. Died 15-04-1950. Estelle Dietz, 67, of Alton, died April 15, at St. Anthony Infirmary in Alton following a heart attack. She was the widow of Charles O. Dietz and was a daughter of the late Mr & Mrs. William Hammer, a pioneer Jersey County family. Mrs Dietz had lived most of her life in Alton where she had been active in church and club work. She is survived by 1 son, Charles W. Dietz of Alton and Cairo; 1 sister, Miss Ethel Hamer, and 1 brother, I G. Hamer of Alton. Funeral rites were held April 18, at Evangelical & Reformed church in Alton. Pastor, Rev. O. W. Heggemeier officiated and interment was in Upper Alton cemetery.
DIHEL. Died 05-11-1961. Elsie Dihel, 67, of Jerseyville, wife of Donald L. Dihel of Jerseyville, died November 5 at her home here. Friends called at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at First Methodist church, Jerseyville with Rev. Mode Powell, Jr. officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs Dihel was born in Eden, Illinois, November 15, 1893 a daughter of the late Ira & Elizabeth (Morris) Cottingham. In addition to her husband, survivors are 2 Sons, Wayne of Springfield and Floyd of Mundelein; 2 sisters, Miss Erma Cottingham of St. Petersburg, Florida and Mrs. Howard Mcmurray of Ormond Beach, Florida; 2 Brothers, Carey Cottingham of Downers Grove and Lloyd Cottingham of Chicago, and 7 grandchildren.

Services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Gordon Dean Cox officiated and graveside services were conducted by the American Legion. Burial was in Chapin. Born May 19, 1929 in MO, he was a son of Jesse & Mattie (Evanas) Dilks. He was a member of the American Legion and Eagles Lodge. Survivors are his wife, Carol (Ogle) Dilks whom he married July 13, 1959 in Jacksonville; 2 sons, Rickey Dilks of White Hall and Christopher Dilks of Jerseyville; 5 daughters, Gabrielle Tillery, Michelle Dilks and Kisha Dilks, all of Jerseyville, Melody Hunter of Savannah, GA and Beverly Snead of Missouri; 1 brother, Alvin Dilks of Jerseyville; 2 sisters, Uldine Humiston of Jerseyville and Mildred Short of Warrenton, Missouri; and 6 grandchildren.

She was born April 6, 1893 in Crawford County, Missouri, the daughter of James and Margaret (Brakefield) Evans. Her survivors are 3 sons, Owen Dilks, John (Cotton) Dilks and Alvin Forrest Dilks, all of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Mrs. Jessie (Mildred) Short of Foristell, Missouri, and Mrs. Uldine Hermiston of Jerseyville; 22 grandchildren; 13 g-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Carrie Wilkerson of Jerseyville and Mrs. Marvin Miller of Fieldon; and 2 Brothers, Jerome Evans of Barryman, Missouri, and Hollie Evans of Rolla, Missouri. DILKS. Died 23-06-1980. Owen Leroy Dilks, 56, of Jerseyville died June 23, at Jersey Community hospital. Services were conducted at Healing Waters Temple by Rev Gordon Dean Cox. Burial was in Fieldon cemetery. He was a retired logger, born January 13, 1924 in Rosedale, a son of the late Jessie &I Mattie (Evans) Dilks and was a WWII army veteran. His survivors are his wife, Lelia Margie (Schaaf) Dilks; 5 sons, Ronald, Rodney, Randy, Kevin and Billy Jo, all of Jerseyville; 1 daughter, Connie Lott of Jerseyville; 6 grandchildren; 2 brothers, John and Alvin Dilks of Jerseyville and 2 sisters, Uldine Humiston, Jerseyville and Mildred Short, Warrenton, Missouri. Graveside service was held by American Legion post. Memorials may be given to Cancer Soc.
DILLIE. Charles Dillie, 31, died at his home in Spanky, September 14, 1906. Funeral from C. P. church at Fieldon. Rev. Roady of Kane serving. Mr Dillie engaged in merchandising at Spanky.
DINGELDEIN. Died 15-11-1982. Truman Ding Dingeldine, died November 15 at St. Mary medical center in Long Beach, California after an extended illness. Dingeldein, well know in the Jerseyville area, taught in the country schools of Jersey County and Macoupin counties for 10 years preceding WWII. After Pearl Harbor, he enlisted and was trained in netorology, later teaching weather basics to pilots going thru the Laurinburg-Maxton, NC Air Force base. Among the pilots trained there were the glider pilots who took part in the Normandy invasion. At this time he was also in charge of a unit who made a training film to teach others to load in gliders, and later put in operation, portable weather stations to be flown to strategic locations. After his discharge at the end of the war, Ding joined the federal weather service, working in several states and completed his 30 years of service in Cairo, Illinois at that time an important tornado and river information station. He and his family made their home in Mounds where he was active in the First Methodist church. He also organized and acted as scoutmaster for a boy scout troop sponsored by the church. He received the scouters key for his dedication to scouting. Shortly after his retirement in December 1972, he and his wife, June (Bahr) Dingeldein (formerly of Jerseyville), and their younger son, Philip, moved to Redondo Beach, CA. Their older son Eric and his wife, Judy, have resided in Davis, California since 1977.
DINSMORE. Died 1917. Fannie Dinsmore, 79, died at her home in Lucan, KS. She leaves 1 daughter, Mrs. Bess Mansfield of Lucas, 5 sons, Charles, Samuel, Thomas, and James of Lucas and Wm. H. Journey of Grafton; 2 sisters, Mrs. Amanda Baxter of Deer Plain, Mrs. A G. Wright of Grafton and 1 brother James Barlow of Grafton. Funeral in Lucas, KS.
DINSMORE. Died 1932. Samuel P. Dinsmore, 89, former Quarry Township resident died in Lucas, KS. The aged sculptors funeral was held in the yard before the cabin home which he had constructed. Around the yard he had sculptured the figures of Cain, Abel, the devil, serpents, colossal 48 foot trees of cement and other biblical figures. Always known as picturesque, Dinsmore was considered a strange figure in Kansas because of the famous concrete Garden of Eden.
DISERENS. Died 20-02-1981. Veatress M. Diserens, 77, of Alton died February 20, 1981, at Alton Memorial hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Jacksonville, Illinois, a daughter of the late Jesse & Edna (Calvin) Jackson, she married Luther C. Diserens October 10, 1925, in Alton. Survivors are her husband, 1 son, Luther Jr., of Alton; 5 grandchildren; and 1 brother, James W. Jackson of East Alton. Visitation was a Gent Funeral Home, Alton. Services were held at Franor Church of Christ with Guy Mudd officiating and burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society and heart fund.
DIXON. Died 1970. Emil Dixon, 65 years, 6 months, and 8 days, died unexpectedly Friday at his home. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Jack Brown officiated and burial was in Kane cemetery. Mr Dixon, was a retired employee of Olin-Mathieson Company in Alton. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Jerseyville. A son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Dixon, he was born in Greene County, February 13, 1905. He is survived by his wife, Mildren (Mundy) Dixon; 4 daughters, Mrs. Delbert Brooks of Joliet, Mrs. Kenneth Denham and Mrs. Oran Young of Kane, and Mrs. Kenneth Williams of Farmington, NM; 2 sons, William Joseph Dixon and Jerry Emel Dixon, both of Farmington; 19 grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Beckwith and Mrs. Iva Weiss of White Hall.
DIXON. Died 08-12-1895. Miss Emeline Dixon, 15 years, 8 months and 2 days, daughter of Wm. J. & Isabell E. Dixon of Jerseyville, died at her home, December 8, 1895. The funeral was held Thursday, Rev. S. Catt officiating. Interment took place near Rockbridge.
DIXON. Died 29-12-1977. Lorena Dixon, 84, of Grafton, died December 29 at her residence. Her husband was the late William E. Dixon. Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church Grafton. Rev. Robert Kimber officiating and burial was in Scenic Hill cemetery. She was born August 9, 1892 in Jersey County, the daughter of James Harvey & Ella Louise (Claridge) Slaten. Mrs Dixon was a member of Grafton American Legion Auxiliary and VFW aux, Chicago. Only survivors are nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 1 son. Memorials may be given to the heart fund.

Hello I’m wondering if you have any info on my gg grandmas, parents . There names were Nancy e Johnson born in jersey Ill maybe rosedale.. not sure. Anyways my grandpa said his grandparents and by way of census records I’ve figured out was john Johnson and Sarah dean Johnson. I’ve noticed an article written on some Hughes and Lydia Johnson Scott. Written by a crull/cull, sorry about spelling 🙂 anyways it mentioned Lydia was a daughter of john Johnson and Nancy dean of jersey area and Lydia born in rosedale. I do have the article if maybe someone might recognize the names.. thank you for your time and I hope to hear back.. would love to find about the above mentioned grandparents.
