BOAT, Oliver Emil, born 26-04-1906, St. Louis, St. Louis County, Missouri, Memorial Park cemetery. Oliver Emil “butch” Boat, 73 of Dow died May 20 at his home. Services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral home in Jerseyville. Rev R. E. George officiated. Burial will be in Memorial Park, St. Louis, MO. Born in St. Louis Apr. 26, 1906, he was a son of William & Henrietta (Rupple) Boat and was a construction worker. His survivors are his wife, Mildred Clara (Mullen) Boat; a stepson, Robert Mohrman of Elsah; 1 brother, William Boat of St. Louis; and 1 sister-in-law, Ruth Crabtree of St. Charles, MO; and 6 grandchildren. 2 brothers and 1 sister preceded him in death.
BOATMAN, Elinda (Cope), born 19-09-1869, Jersey County, Illinois, buried 29-01-1952, Carlinville cemetery. Elinda Boatman, 82, of Carlinville, died Jan. 29 at her home in that city where she had gone as a bride more than 60 years ago. Mrs Boatman was a daughter of the late Henry & Rachael Cope and was born in Jersey County Sept. 19, 1869. She was married Oct. 29, 1889 to Arthur A. Boatman and all of their married life was spent in the house where he took his wife as a bride. The death of Mr. Boatman occurred in 1939. The aged woman is survived by 4 daughters, Mrs. Edith Mudgett, Mrs. Nell Emerick and Mrs. Stella Mvgaughey of Carlinville and Miss Harriett L. Boatman of Princeton; 7 sons, Frank M. of Peoria, Everett J., Ralph H., Walter W., Alfred A., and Howard died all of Carlinville, and Ray W., of Auburn; 2 brothers, Leslie Cope of Gillespie and Zenas Cope of Eldorado. She also leaves 18 grandchildren and 13 g-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Jan. 31, at Ferketich funeral home in Carlinville and burial was in Carlinville cemetery.
BOCK, Charles Lee, born Alton, Madison County, Illinois, died 22-09-1979, buried Cemetery Valhalla cemetery. Charles Lee bock, 46, of RR Delhi died Sept. 22, 1979 at his home after a lengthy illness. Services were held Sept. 25 at Gent Funeral home in Alton with burial in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. Born in Alton, he was the son of the late Henry G. & Anita (Atkins) Bock. He had worked as a tractor driver at Owens-Illinois for 24 years until his recent retirement. His survivors are 5 sister, Joann Hall and Alice Dunham, both of Godfrey, Betty Fitzgibbons, Delhi, Henrietta Heitzman, Dow, Peggy Hart, Carlinville; 3 brother, William, Alton, Lamar, Brighton and Glen of Jerseyville.
BOCK, Fred W., born Alton, Madison County, Illinois, died 01-10-1987, buried Cemetery Valhalla cemetery. Fred W. Bock, 85, died Oct. 1, 1987, at Jersey Care Center in Jerseyville. A farmer, Bock was born in Alton, a son of the late Henry & Emma (Brandt) Bock. He is survived by 3 daughters, Jesse Froebel of Brighton, Betty Lockhart of NE, and Mary Kranich of MT.; 2 sons, Frederick Bock of Jerseyville and Emil Bock of AR.; 27 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Harry Bock of Wilsonville and Carl Bock of Brighton. Visitation and services were held at Targhetta funeral home, Brighton, Rev. Henry Lippert officiating. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. Memorials may be given to charity of one’s choice.
BODENBACH, Norma C. (Musgrove), born 1926, Fidelity, Jersey County, Illinois, died 29-10-1987, buried Bunker Hill City cemetery. Norma C. Bodenbach, 61, died Oct. 29, 1987, at St. Joseph hospital, Alton, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Fidelity, daughter of the late Charles & Nancy (Kincakd) Musgrove. She married Lowell W. Bodenbach June 24, 1943, in Bunker Hill. He died Oct. 26, 1982. Mrs Bodenbach was the manager of College Cleaners in Alton and retired in June 1987. Surviving are 1 daughter, Melodye Gosch of Bunker Hill; 2 sons, Lowell N. “lucky” Bodenbach of Alton and John a Bodenbach of Shelbyville, OH; 3 grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Catherine Bruckert of Bunker Hill and Helen Clore of Mattoon. 5 brothers preceded her in death. Visitation was at Jacoby-Wise funeral home in Bunker Hill. Services were held at first Congregational church of Bunker Hill. Burial was in Bunker Hill City cemetery.
BODKIN, Millard, died 07-1955, buried 28-07-1955. Millard Bodkin, youngest son of the late William and Elvira Bodkin, died recently in Dallas, TX. Mrs George Busch of Otterville vicinity received word from her cousin, Mrs. William Bodkin of Tulsa, OK, of the death. Mr Bodkin was a brother of Mrs. Josephine Pregler of Kane who has been a patient at Alton Memorial hospital for the past month. Mr Bodkin was reared and educated at Otterville and resided here until about 35 years ago when he went to Kansas City where he was associated with Goodyear Tire company. Later he was transferred to Dallas. He iIs survived by his wife, Mrs. Hazel Bodkin, 1 daughter, Betty and 1 grandchild; 1 brother, William Bodkin of Tulsa, OK. Services were held July 28, in Dallas.
BOEDEKER, Joseph A., born Clarion, Clarion County, Pennsylvania, died 19-06-1982. Joseph A. Boedeker, 64, of Alton and husband of the former Maxine House, whom he married Dec. 1938. He died June 19, at Alton Memorial hospital after a lengthy illness. A memorial service was held at the First Presbyterian church in Alton. A native of Clarion, PA, he was employed at SIU, Edwardsville for a number of years. His survivors arr his wife, Maxine, 1 daughter, Stephanie O’connor of Brandon, FL; 4 grandchildren; 1 sister, Julia Andria of Coulterville; and 2 brothers, William R. of Godfrey and Edward of Alton. Rev Courtley Burrough officiated. Memorials may be given to the Presbyterian church and River Bend United Way.
BOEDY, John E., born19-06-1890, Jersey County, Illinois, died 08-1972, buried Valhalla cemetery. John E. Boedy, 82, of Godfrey, died at St. Anthony hospital, Alton, where he had been a patient since June 24. Mr Boedy had retired from the Godfrey post office in 1960, where he had been a rural mail carrier since 1924. He was born in Jersey County on June 19, 1890. He married Bertha H. (Fessler) Boedy, Nov. 28, 1916. Mr Boedy was a member of the Evangelical Church of Christ. Surviving are his widow, Bertha; 1 daughter, Mrs. August (Melba Jean) Franke of Godfrey; and 1 brother, Glenn, of Hannibal, MO. Services were held at Gent Funeral home with Rev. Walter H. Krebs officiating. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park.
BOEDY, Orville W., born Jersey County, Illinois, died 26-02-1976, buried Valhalla cemetery. Orville W. Boedy, 77, of Godfrey, at St. Anthony hospital, Alton after 1 years of failing health. He retired 10 years ago as owner of Boedy’s tavern in Edwardsville. He had previously employed as a welder at Standard Oil Company, many years. A native of Jersey county, he is survived by his widow, Helen (Bell) Boedy, whom he married Sept. 23, 1919; 1 son, Donald of Godfrey; 1 sister, Mrs. Edward (Dolores) Hoffman of Godfrey; 3 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and 1 sister, Mrs. William Schnurr of Godfrey. A funeral mass was celebrated at St. Michael church in Beltrees with Rev. Patrick Morrow officiating. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. Visitation was held at Gent Funeral home. Memorials may be given to St. Anthony hospital.
BOEDY, Roy E., died 11-1959, buried Valhalla cemetery. Roy E. Boedy, 77, a bachelor, was found dead at his home at East Newbern last Monday. Mr Boedy lived alone and had been in good health most of his life. The deceased is survived by an only sister, Mrs. Oscar Rintoul of East Newbern Rd, and 5 brothers, Archie of Tampica, Mexico, Walter of Springfield, Elmer L. of Torrance, CA, Glenn E. of Hannibal, MO, and John E., of Godfrey. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Rev Leroy Lyell, pastor of Bethel Methodist Church conducted the services and burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park.
BOEHM, Dorothea Pat (Shaw), died 12-12-1979, buried Florida? Dorothea “pat” Boehm, died Dec. 12, 1979 at Homestead AFB hospital. Services were conducted in the Homestead Air Force Base chapel in Homestedad, FL, Dec. 16. She was the daughter of Mrs. Mabel (welch) Shaw, formerly of Fieldon and Jerseyville area and the late Henry C. Shaw. Dorothea was married Aug. 15, 1945 to US Naval Comm. Casper R. Boehm in New York City, he survives. She attended Shurtleff College, Alton; Washington University, Washington, DC and New York University as a graduate student in fashion and retailing. Prior to her marriage she was an Eska travel consultant for a New York corporation and at a later date conducted 2 daily radio programs in Washington, DC. Mrs Boehm was a member of the Sarah Constant DAR chapter in Norfolk, VA. A graduate of the Lewis Hotel and Motel Training School of Washington DC, he served in various managerial capacities for the Holiday Inn system both in Freeport and Florida areas. Also surviving are 2 sisters, Mrs. Roberta Davis of Norman and Mrs. Perky Gatschenberger of Springfield. She was preceded in death by her father and 1 brother, Hubert. Memorials may be given to National Cancer Association.
BOGUE, Chauncey Cleve, born 22-11-1930, Litchfield, Montgomery County, Illinois, died 12-10-1959, buried Scenic Hill cemetery. Chauncey Cleve Bogue, 28, of Grafton, died Oct. 12, in Barnes hospital in St. Louis where he had been a patient for 17 days. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral home in Jerseyville. The body was then moved to the Baptist Church in Grafton where funeral services were held by Rev. Wm. Botner of Grafton and Rev. Benjamin Sauerwein of Jerseyville officiated. Burial was in Scenic Hill cemetery. Mr Bogue was the son of George E. & Daisy (Varner) Bogue and was born in Litchfield on Nov. 22, 1930. He had resided in Grafton for 15 years. He was employed by Union Starch company. Surviving are his parents, Mr. & Mrs George C. Bogue, Grafton, 1 sister, Mrs. Norma Keeny of Great Falls, MT, 3 brothers, George Maynard Bogue of Granite City, Leroy Bogue of TX and James Richard Bogue of Grafton, and his grandfather, Chauncey Maynard of Phoenix, AZ.
BOHANNAN, Agnes Christine (Lenz), born Jersey County, Illinois, died 24-10-1990, buried Oak Grove Cemetery. Agnes Christine Bohannan, 100, former Jerseyville and Alton resident, died Oct. 24, 1990, at Park Strathmoore in Rockford, IL. born in Jersey county, she was the daughter of the late Joseph & Mary (Albert) Lenz. She married Dr. Hugh R. Bohannan Aug. 14, 1917. He died Oct. 20, 1958. Nieces and nephews survive. 11 sisters and 2 brothers, preceded her in death. Visitation and rosary were held at Jacoby-Schroeder funeral home in Jerseyville. A funeral mass was held at Holy Ghost Catholic church in Jerseyville. Rev William Hembrow was celebrant with burial in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to Holy Ghost-St. Francis schools or masses.
BOHANNAN, Hugh Russell, born12-09-1876, Macoupin County, Illinois, died 20-10-1958, buried Oak Grove Cemetery. Dr Hugh Russell Bohannan, 82, dean of Jerseyville doctors died Oct. 20, 1958 at St. Joseph hospital, Alton, where he had been a patient for the past 5 1/2 wks. Funeral services were held Oct. 22, at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Rev M. Edwards Breed officiated. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. As a tribute of respect to the beloved citizen of Jersey county, business houses and offices in Jerseyville were closed during the hours of the huneral. Masonic rites were conducted Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Dr Bohannan was widely known for his unselfish service. The Jerseyville physician had entered the hospital Sept. 11, and the next day observed his 82nd birthday. The decedent was a son of the late Russell & Mary (Snell) Bohannan and was born Sept. 12, 1876 in Macoupin county. The greater part of his life was spent in Jersey county. The well-known Dr was a decendant of Dr Asa Snell, the first practicing physician in Jersey county, who came here in 1833 from Vermont. As a young man he taught in the rural schools of Jersey County and at Fidelity and Otterville. As soon as schools were dismissed for summer vacations he became a student and studied medicine at Illinois Medical College in Chicago. In 1904 he received his degree in medicine and for 8 months engaged in practice in Niotaza, KS, and then returned to Jersey County where for more than 50 years he ministered to several generations of families. Those who sought his medical aid knew that the fee would be small and in many cases the physician made no charge at all. Upon locating in Jerseyville he opened an office in the Snedeker building on N. State St., latter moving to quarters in the IOOF building where he remained for 39 years. In recent years Dr Boahnnan had offices over Kirby drug store. In 1953 Dr Bohannan was given community wide recognition as he began his 49th year of practice in Jersey county. A fund was started for a surprise gift for the physician and his many friends and patients were anxious to take part in the project. Because of his interest in sports it was decided to give him a television. When more money was received than the purchase price of the set, other gifts were purchased and presented to him. The following year Dr Bohannan and Dr F. N. Mclaren of White Hall were honored by the Jersey & Greene County medical societies as they marked their 50 years of practice. A dinner was held in Jerseyville in their honor and they were presented gold service pins and portable radios. When interviewed in 1953, Dr Bohannan estimated he had delivered about 1,800 babies. During his years of practice he had used many modes of travel to reach his patients. Until his illness, Dr Bohannan seldom missed a day at his office and for many years he had office hours 7 days a week and evening hours also. During the influenza epidemic in WWI the Jerseyville physician hardly had his clothes off for 5 wks, either day of night, while ministering to the victims of the malady. Dr Bohannan had been affiliated with Blue Lodge No 394, AF & AM, since May 23, 1898 and had received a 50 yr Masonic jewl. He had served as High Priest of the Royal Arch Chapter. He served continuously as a member of the Jerseyville Building Loan & Homestead Association since June 11, 1928, and at the time of his death was Vice President of the Jersey Savings & Loan Association Dr Bohannan had been affiliated with the Jersey County Medical Society for many years and was past president of the Society. He was married Aug. 12, 1917 to Agnes (Lenz) Bohannan of Jerseyville, who survives him. Also surviving are 1 niece Miss Ina Bohannan of White Hall and 1 nephew, Charles Bohannan, and 1 g-nephew, Charles Bohannan Jr., of Jerseyville.
BOHANNAN, Ina, died 05-1975, buried Oak Grove Cemetery. Miss Ina Bohannan, 76, a former resident of Jerseyville, died at Schmitt Memorial hospital in Beardstown where she had been a former Superintendent and retired nurse. Miss Bohannan was the first patient transferred to the new facility on May 10. Final services were held at the Methodist Church in Beardstown. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery, Jerseyville. Miss Bohannan’s health career began in 1924 when she graduated from Passavant Hospital School of Nursing in Jacksonville. She later returned to Passavant hospital as Assistant Superintendent, working in that capacity until 1936. She served -incomplete
BOHANNON, Alma D. (Downing), died 25-12-1980, buried Valhalla cemetery. Alma D. Bohannon, 63, of RR Dow died Dec. 25, 1980 at her home of an apparent heart attack. Her husband Charles R. Bohannon, died Nov.18, 1967. Services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Boyd Goodson officiated with burial in Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. Survivors are 4 sons, Donald R., Godfrey, Charles D., Dennis L. and Danny M., Dow; 3 daughters, Judy Morgan of Dow, Janice Mourning, Jerseyville, Jessie Davis, South Roxana; 16 grandchildren; 2 brother, Alfred Downing, Gilbertsville, KY, Virgil Downing, Oregon; 1 sister, Deana Timmons, Benton, KY; 1 half brother, Rollie Farley and 1 sister, Bernetta Johnson, both of Benton, KY. Memorials may be given to the Church of Christ.
BOHANNON, Bertha V. (Norris), born Greenfield, Greene County, Illinois, died 29-01-1987, buried Oak Grove Cemetery. Bertha V. Bohannon, 55, died Jan. 29, 1987, at Jersey Community hospital after a lengthy illness. She was a waitress at various restaurants in the area. Born in Greenfield, she was the daughter of the late Other M. & Jennie Mae (Hall) Norris. Surviving are 1 son, Charles Bohannon, Jerseyville; 1 grandson; 7 sister, Cornelia Cummings, Godfrey, Dorothy Ashlock, Jerseyville, Patsy Anthony, White Hall, Pat Havlin, Roodhouse, Mildred Waters, Lynnville, Sarah Knight, Wynder, GA and Margaret Easley, Rockbridge; 5; brother, Charles Norris, Godfrey, George Norris, White Hall, John Norris, Joliet, James and Doug Norris, both of Cole City. Graveside rites were conducted in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Lupis foundation. Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville was in charge of arrangements.
BOHN, Clara E. (Hughes), born 04-05-1905, St. Louis, St. Louis County, Missouri, died 19-02-1993, buried White Hall cemetery. Clara E. Bohn, 87, formerly of Carrollton, died Feb. 19, 1993, at Jersey Community hospital. Born in St. Louis, May 4, 1905, she was the daughter of the late Highton & Clara (Wallington) Hughes. She married Rev. Benjamin Bohn in 1929, in St. Louis and he died May 5, 1969. Surviving are 1 daughter, Virginia Hall of Carrollton; and 3 grandchildren. 2 half brothers preceded her in death. Visitation was from Airsman-Hires Funeral home, Carrollton. Services were held at Carrollton First Baptist Church. Revs Al Eastin and Jerry Belden officiated. Burial was in White Hall cemetery. Memorials may be given to Carrollton First Baptist church where she was a pianist for many years, or White Hall First Christ church.
BOKER, Audrey Pearl (Higgins), born19-12-1899, Doe Run, St. Francois County, Missouri, died 25-11-1975, buried Oak Grove Cemetery. Audrey Pearl Boker, 75, who resided at Blu-fountain Manor died Nov.25. Services were held on Nov. 28 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral home in Jerseyville. Rev R. E. George officiated. Internment was in Oak Grove cemetery. She was born on Dec. 19, 1899 in Doe Run, MO, a daughter of Ellen Higgins. Her husband Roy W. Boker, died in 1964. Her survivors are 2 sons, Roy W. Boker, Jr., of Granite City and Edward D. Boker of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Mrs. Allen (Marie) Foster of -incomplete
BOKER, Mary (Pickerel), born 01-05-1869, Monroe County, Kentucky, died 11-02-1947, buried Maple Lawn cemetery. Mary (Griswold) Boker, 77 yrs, 9 mo, 10 days, a resident of Fidelity for about 56 yrs, died Feb. 11, in Alton. Mrs Boker was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Pickerel and she was born in Monroe County, KY, May 1, 1869. As a child she and her parents came from Kentucky in a covered wagon from Kentucky to Illinois and the family settled in the Kane vicinity. As a young woman she moved to Fidelity where she had since resided. Surviving are 2 sons, Waren Griswold of Fidelity and Lloyd Griswold of Jerseyville; 1 grandson, Harold Griswold of Salem and 1 brother, Elzy Pickerel of Jerseyville. Services were held at Whitfield-Warner funeral chapel in Medora, Feb. 14, with Rev E. W. Fox officiating. Interment was in Maple Lawn cemetery near Medora.
BOND, Della, born 22-02-1869, Lincoln County, Tennessee, died 07-09-1952, buried Grimes cemetery. Miss Della Bond, 83 yrs, 6 mo, 15 days, died at the home of her sister Mrs. Harry Cope west of Jerseyville, Sept. 7, 1952. The English Township resident had been ill the past few weeks. Miss Bond was a daughter of the late Samuel Anderson & Mary M. (Milton) Bond. She was born in Lincoln County, TN, Feb. 22, 1869. She is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. Cope of Jerseyville and Mrs. Josephine Olmstead of Capital City, MO; nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev F. W. Schwarzlose officiated and interment was in Grimes cemetery.
BONER, Alex, died 1897, buried Catholic cemetery. Alex Boner, older resident of Jerseyville, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Charles Rusk, in SE suburbs. Funeral from German Catholic church to Catholic cemetery. Rev Marks.
BONER, Billy J., died 30-11-1979, buried Valhalla (St. Louis). Billy J. Boner, 45, of St. Louis, formerly of Jerseyville died Nov.30 after a long illness. Services were conducted at Jennings Christian church, Jennings, MO by the pastor Billy Campbell. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial cemetery in St. Louis. He and his wife, Joan (Cull) Boner, daughter of Blain & Mildred Cull, also former Jerseyville residents, graduated in 1952 from Jersey Community high school. Boner served in the us army for 2 years during the Korean conflict. Boner was a systems analyst in computer work for Anheuser-Busch and his wife, a registered nurse, worked for many years at St. Luke hospital. Survivors are his wife; 1 daughter, Barbara and 1 son Michael, both at home; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Boner of Jerseyville and 1 brother, Clarence Boner JR. of Decatur, GA.
BONER, Clarence, born 26-07-1906, Kane, Greene County, Illinois, died 15-09-1987, buried Oak Grove Cemetery. Clarence (Shorty) Boner, 81, former owner of Oliver Implement company, in Jerseyville, died Sept. 15, at Jersey Community hospital. Boner was born July 26, 1906 in Kane, the son of the late John W. & Elizabeth (Smith) Boner. He was involved in farm implement management and sales, retiring in 1970. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Jerseyville. He is survived by his wife, Helen (Morris) Boner, whom hHe married July 26, 1928 in Butler, MO; 1 son Clarence Boner Jr., of Atlanta, GA; 2 grandsons and 2 grandaughters. He was preceded in death by 1 son, Bill Boner and 1 brother Lester Boner. Services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Mike Michels officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to Arthritis Foundation and United Methodist Church.
BONER, Herbert Leroy, born 23-11-1923, Butler, Bates County, Missouri, died 26-01-1946, buried Oak Grove Cemetery. Herbert Leroy Boner, 23, only son of Mr. & Mrs. Lester L. Boner of Jerseyville was fatally injured, Jan. 26, in a motorcycle-car crash which occurred in Wood River Township on Rt. 140. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Deloris Boner, 1 daughter, Clara Penelope Boner; his parents; 2 sister, Linda Lou and Virginia Mae Boner; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Lizzie B. Boner of Jerseyville and his maternal grandfather, Thomas Everett of Butler, MO. Funeral services were held from the Boner home to the Methodist Church. Rev Dale Harmon officiated at the service, Jan. 28, and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.

At one time Mr. Boner owned and operated the implement business now known as Ringhausen Implement company, west of Jerseyville.

She was born in Butler, MO, daughter of the late Thomas J. & Phoebe E. (Diddy) Everett. On June 4, 1923, she married Lester L. Boner in Butler. He died in Jan. 1969. Surviving are 2 daughters, Linda Schepper of Washburn and Virginia Ebker of Jerseyville; 3 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and 1 brother, Buford Everett of Butler, MO. 1 son, Herbert L. “Pete” Boner, and 3 brothers, preceded her in death. Visitation was at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services were held at United Methodist Church in Jerseyville. Rev Mike Michels officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs Boner was a daughter of the late Matthew & Ellen (Long) Walsh and was born in Jersey county, Nov. 30, 1870. She is survived by 4 brother, James, Walter, Matthew and Andrew Walsh all of Jerseyville, and nieces and nephews. Visitation was held from Gubser Funeral home in Jerseyville and then to St. Francis church on May 9. Requiem mass was celebrated by father John J. Clancy and interment was in St. Francis cemetery.

She leaves her husband, 3 brothers Ferdnand, Otto and Rudolph Barrenger, 3 nieces and 2 nephews.

Boner, 89 yrs, and 12 days, well known retired farmer of Jerseyville, died Jan. 29, at his home in Jerseyville. He had been in failing health for some time. Mr Boner was born in Jersey county, a son of the late William & Nancy Ann (Stover) Boner. He had made his home in Jerseyville since retiring from farming in 1911. Mr Boner has been prominent in the Masonic Order of Jerseyville and Medora and also served as a member of the board of directors of the Jerseyville Building and Loan Association He was married to Mary Otillie (Barringer) Boner, whose death occurred 21 years ago. Later he married Mary A. (Walsh) Boner of Jerseyville. The decedent was the surviving member of a family of 8. Surviving are his wife, Mrs Mary Boner and nieces and nephews. Visitation was at Gubser Funeral home in Jerseyville. Services were held at the Methodist church, Rev. Dale Harmon officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.

In 1855 he married Nancy Ann (Stover??) Boner, and moved to Illinois. They were parents of 8 children: Thomas Charles, Mary Catherine, Wm. Alexander, Emma Ann, Sarah Jane, Edwin Francis, Lucy Ellen and John W. 5 are living. He died at his home 7 miles East of Kane and was buried in Pruitt cemetery.
BONNELL, David T., born 06-12-1816, Orange, New Jersey, died 03-1893. David T. Bonnell, born Dec. 6, 1816 in Orange, NJ, came to Jersey county in 1838. He married Sarah A. (Kirby) Bonnell in 1841. They were parents of 9 children, 7 are surviving. He was Post Master through the administrations of Martin Van Buren, Harrison and Tyler and part of James K Polk. The office was in connection with a store, which he sold to McGill & Blackburn, and moved to the Mound farm, Feb. 27, 1847. Nov 24, 1857, he went to merchandising again and in 1879 sold his store to his son-in-law N. K. Beardslee, and commenced dealing grain and then went to farming.

The body was taken to Jacoby Brothers Funeral home in Jerseyville where funeral arrangements were pending when the Democrat News went to press. Mrs Boomer was a daughter of the late Herman & Christene (Ebinger) Schock and was born at Nurrhawt, Germany, on Nov. 16, 1898. She had been a resident of the United States for 49 years. Surviving in addition to her husband are 1 son, William H. Blind of Jacksonville, FL, 5 step daughters, Mrs. Wm. Schultz, Mrs. Joe French and Mrs. Charles Webster of Jerseyville, Mrs. Edward Phipps of Kane and Mrs. Charles Mcintyre of Rosewood Heights, 2 grandchildren, Mary Ann and William Blind, and 2 sisters, Mrs. Emma Lee Henricks and Caroline Henricks of St. Louis.

Final rites were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral home in Jerseyville. Interment was in Grimes cemetery. A farm laborer, he was born Apr. 10, 1903 in Jersey County the son of Daniel & Anna (Frazier) Boomer. A WWII veteran, he was a member of the Worthey Post American Legion. Survivors are 1 brother, Roy Boomer of Jerseyville; and 4 sisters, Mrs. Tony Frazer and Mrs. Eva Rhoades of Jerseyville, and Mrs Mary Rue and Mrs. Lottie Calender of Alton. Rev Louis Purcell of Jerseyville officiated at the funeral services and military rites at the graveside were conducted by members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

BOOMER, John. Jerseyville Republican, April 11, 1912. John Boomer died at his home 8 miles south of Jerseyville March 31 at 5 p.m. after an illness of about 3 months, aged 88 years and 6 months. He was born in Whittenberg, Germany, and emigrated to this country at the age of 14 years. He enlisted and served in the Mexican war and received an honorable discharge. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Mary Delaney on October 20, 1852. To this union was born two sons and four daughters: John A. and Daniel, Mrs. Maria Hewitt, Mrs. Mary E. Minard, Mrs. Anna Wheeler, and Mrs. Emma Perdun. The latter two have passed away. There are 19 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He attended and was a believer inn the Lutheran Church. Through the last few years of his life he had the care of his affectionate daughter, Mrs. Maria Hewitt. He has lived on the same farm for 43 years and was respected by all who knew him. His remains were laid to rest April 3 in Otterville Cemetery.

Bormer was a part owner of the Aaa paving business and at the time of his death was employed by Bob Stewart in construction. He had served in WWII. His survivors include his widow; 1 son, Jes Daniel Boomer, Klamath Falls; 1 daughter, Ramona Fogarty, San Jose, CA; mother Beulah Delarm; 1 brother Lloyd Boomer; 1 sister, Nadine Burwell, all of Eugene; and 1 granddaughter, Tanya Boomer, Roseburg.

Gerald was born in Quarry Township, Jersey county, July 31, 1937, son of Homer Sr., & Florence (Blackstone) Booth, who survive. He worked at Duncan Foundry in Alton for the past 2 yrs, and prior to that time was a driver for Barlage trucking, Eldred. He married Dolores (Stonefield) Booth Nov.15, 1958, at San Bernadino, CA. Survivors are his parents, 3 daughters, Pamela, Sandra and Sharol Booth all at home; 3 brothers, Homer Booth Jr., of Eldred, Harold Booth of Wood River and Lowell Booth of Pomona, CA; and 1 sister, Mrs. Bertha Funk of Jerseyville. BORGER, Conrad, born 15-05-1833, Althim Hessen, Darmstad, Germany, died 1916. Conrad Borger, born at Althim Hessen Darmstad, Germany, on May 15, 1833. He attended public school until confirmed in the Lutheran faith at 16 years of age. He left Germany in 1853 for America and landed in New Orleans in August of the same year. He then came to Mascuta, IL, and worked at his tailoring trade until he was married on March 24, 1855 to Johanna (Goenter) Borger and on the following day the young couple left for Jerseyville. They were parents of 6 children: 2 survive Annie and Jetty. Mrs Borger and 4 children preceded him in death. She died Sept. 29, 1907. George, Conrad, Charles and Alvena preceaded. Mrs Trankle died Nov.17, 1910. Charles Borger died Nov.28, 1915. The father died Feb. 21, 1916. 2 daughters are Mrs Christ Harms and Mrs. Andrew Schreiber, 2 sons-in-law, 1 daughter-in-law, 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

She was the widow of Perry Boston. Mrs Boston was a daughter of the late Henry w & Rosella (Wiseman) Summers, and was born in Jerseyville on Sept. 2, 1890. Surviving are 2 sons, Robert Eugene and William L. Allen, Jr. and 1 daughter, Mrs. Thelma Scoggins, all of Jerseyville; 10 grandchildren; 23 g-grandchildren; 1 brother, Fergus Summers of Jerseyville and 2 step children.

Surviving are her husband, Robert Bosworth whom she married Feb. 8, 1946 in Jerseyville; 2 sons, Robert Bosworth Jr., Jerseyville and Jon Bosworth, US Army, who is stationed at Walter Reed Army Center in Washington, DC; her mother; 1 sister, Mrs. Allice Marie Lee of Godfrey and 1 brother Stanley Miller of Jerseyville. He was born in Houston, TX, Sept. 6, 1922, a son of the late Robert & Velma (Giers) Bosworth. He was employed by Olin corporation. In the Herrin area. Bosworth was a Mayflower decendant; decendant of Confederate President, Jefferson Davis and child of the DAR. He was a member of the Jerseyville United Methodist Church, Loyal Order of Moose, Jerseyville and Fraternal Order of Eagles and Improved Order of Redman, Degree of Pocahontas, Herrin. Services were held at Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Lavon Bayler officiating. Graveside rites were conducted at Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. Bosworth, 66, of Jerseyville, died Jan. 21, at Jersey Community hospital from an apparent heart attack. The Jersey County Supervisor of Assessments, collapsed in his office and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. He was born Feb. 17, 1917 in Houston, TX, a son of the late Robert Davis & Velma (Giers) Bosworth and was a WWII veteran. Bosworth was a member and past Worshipful Master of the Masonic Lodge 394 AF & AM. The American Legion Post 492 and VFW 4528 and First United Methodist Church. He is survived by 2 sons, Robert D. Bosworth Jr. and Jon Bosworth, both of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Francis Lee “Frankie” (Miller) Bosworth who died Feb. 3, 1980 and his brother, Fred Bosworth. Visitation was held at Gubser funeral home in Jerseyville. Masonic rites were conducted and services were held with Rev. R. E. George officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs Bosworth was a member of the United Methodist church and daughter of the union army. She is survived by 2 sons, Robert D. Bosworth of Jerseyville and Fred G. Bosworth of Herrin; 4 grandchildren; 1 great grandchildren. Memorials may be given to Jerseyville Methodist Church.
BOTHWELL, Juliet, died 1918. Miss Juliet Bothwell of Jerseyville, died at her home, following an attack of cerebral hemorrhage, a clot of blood on the brain. She was attacked during the night while sleeping. Her mother discovered her daughter’s dangerous condition when she awoke the next morning. The young lady never regained consciousness before her death. Miss Bothwell, daughter of Mrs. Samuel Bothwell, was beloved by all who knew her for her unselfish devotion to those nearest and dearest to her. She had a wonderful contralto voice and never hesitated to make use of it whenever occasion arose for the benefit of charity or friends. Miss Bothwell was one of the organizers of the well-known twentieth century quartet of young women of Jerseyville whose services were in demand in many places throughout the state. She played a prominent part in the organization and later success of the Monday Musical Club, which disbanded only last year. She is survived by 4 sister, Mesdames Edith Kennedy of Jerseyville, George Mathews and Matilde Colean of Jacksonville and R. D. McArthur of New York and 2 brothers George Bothwell of Des Moines, IA, and James Bothwell of Tyler, TX. Funeral services were at the Episcopal church, Rev Dawson officiating.
BOTHWELL, Samuel, died 1887. Samuel Bothwell has died suddenly at Lagrange, TX. A dispatch was received by the family this am. He was a bridge builder and contractor on the C. & A Jacksonville and SE, St. Louis, Jerseyville, and Springfield. For many years he had engaged in railroad building wiyh the late Wm. Shephard.
BOTKIN, Hattie North. Died near Otterville, March 7th, in the eleventh year of her age, Hattie North, beloved daughter of William D. and Almira M. Botkin. She had been at school as usual, ate supper at 7 o’clock, and appeared well. Shortly after, she commenced crying with severe pain in the head which increased until at 9 she ceased suffering. Hattie was a Christ-like child. “None named her but to praise her.” Named in honor of Mrs. Hattie McCoy North, of Carbondale High School, the mantle of that lady seemed to have fallen on her. Though living in Otterville only a few months, there were many tears shed while the little white casket rested before the altar. Rev. J. E. Burk, of Elsah, conducted the funeral. Hattie was a probationer in the M. E. Church at Otterville. Resolutions of respect will be printed in Jerseyville papers by pupils at Otterville school. March 13th. BOTKIN, William D., born 09-03-1849, Carlinville, Macoupin County, Illinois, died 06-1910buried Otterville cemetery? Wm. D. Botkin, pioneer settler of Otter Creek township, died at Bixby, OK. Funeral at Otterville church, Rev. W. J. Fahenstock officiating. Had gone to Oklahoma to spend the winter with relatives. Born in Carlinville, IL March 9, 1849. In 1868 he went Venice, IL. In 1872 he married Almira M. Osburn. Parents of 8 children, 3 living: Mrs. Joseph Ine Pregler, of Bixby, OK; Wm. H. of Tulsa, OK and Millard F of St. Louis School of Fine Arts. On account of floods in American bottom, he sold out there and in 1894 moved to Otterville, where he bought a farm on Otter Creek, where he lived till Oct. 1910. He united with me church at Otterville. A republican in politics. In Oct. 1910 he sold his farm and personal property, expecting to make Jerseyville his home. Took a visit to Oklahoma to see his children and was sSeized with a lingering illness shat terminated in liver dropsy and cancer of the stomach. In accordance with his wishes his remains were taken to Otterville, IL. He was laid in the family lot, by the side of his little dau.
BOTKIN, William H., born 13-11-1887, Venice, Madison County, Illinois, died 07-09-1958, buried Oak Lawn cemetry. William H. Botkin, 70, a former resident of Otter Creek Township, died Sept. 7 at his home in Tulsa, OK. Mr Botkin was a brother of Mrs. Josephine Pregler of Kane and a cousin of Mrs. George Busch of the Otterville vicinity. Mr Botkin, a son of the late William D. & Almira M. Botkin and was born Nov. 13, 1887, at Venice, IL. He grew to manhood on a farm near Otterville. He had resided in Tulsa since 1909 where he was widely known as the “curbstone preacher” who had handed out an estimated 6,240,000 religious tracts during his 20 year Tulsa “street ministry”. The tracts Botkin handed out were interdenominational. He, however, was a dedicated member of the Central Assembly of God Church and was the building contractor for the church which burned down at 5th and Peoria Ave. in Tulsa a few years ago. Not being ordained or qualified for the ministry, Botkin started out helping wherever he could and then began passing out tracts. He was a familiar figure at 3rd and Main streets in Tulsa where he went 6 days a week for 20 years and handed out an average of 1,000 tracts a day. He had been in failing health for sometime and had distributed his last tract on Aug. 29. Before engaging in the sidewalk ministry, Mr. Botkin was known in the real estate and construction business. Before doing construction work he was an office employee of the Hewitt Rubber Company. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Carol Botkin of Tulsa, OK; 2 sons, Loyd Botkin of Tulsa and John M. Botkin of Ft. Worth, TX; 2 daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Mattax, Tulsa and Mrs. Barbara Atterberry of Lafayette, LA; 1 sister, Mrs. Josephine Pregler of Kane; and 16 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sept. 9, at Central Assembly of God Church in Tulsa and burial was in Oaklawn cemetery there.
BOTT, Alvin Charles, died 09-05-1987, buried St. Francis cemetery. Alvin Charles Bott, 79, died May 9, 1987, at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton. The son of the late Charles & Maggie (Heffrean) Bott, he was a lab technician at Shell Oil Company in Wood River for 45 yrs. His wife Barbara preceded him in death Aug. 12, 1983. They were married May 23, 1946. Survivors include 3 sons, Mike Bott of Alton, Thomas and David Bott, both of Jerseyville; 4 daughters, Helen Bucher of Godfrey, Nan Stork and Mary Noble, both of Jerseyville, and Barbara Schroeder of Osage, IA; 22 grandchildren; 3 g-grandchildren; and 2 sister, Mercedes Lyons and Irma Hayes, both of Alton. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral home in Jerseyville. A funeral mass was celebrated at Holy Ghost catholic church with Rev. William Hembrow as celebrant. Dr Anthony E Bott, 90, retired veterinarian of Belleville, died Aug. 1 4, at Belleville Memorial hospital. Services were held at Signal Hill United Methodist Church in Belleville with Rev. Robert Hollis and Rev. Robert Edwards officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery. Born in Jersey county, Nov.4, 1887, he was the son of Henry M. & Wilomina (Schleif) Bott. A graduate from Chicago Veterinary College, he was active in many veterinary medical associations. Dr Bott Was Chairman of the Illinois Vet Procurement & Assignment Service, War Manpower Commission WWII, honorary member of the Cuban Chilean Veterinary-medical Associations, correspondent to the Brazillian Veterinarian Medical Association, Representative to the Pan-africa Veterinarian Medical Group. He was a past president of the East St. Louis school district 186 and president of St. Clair hospital association where he had been instrumental in the development of Christian Welfare hospital. Dr Bott was a 50 year member of Hibbadrd 249 Brighton AF & AM, Scottish rite bodies and the ainad shring and he received the 33 degree Scottish rites in 1976. His survivors are his Wife, Ethlyn W (Wisegraver) Bott; 2 sons, Dr Anthony R Bott of Lebanon, PA and Edward S Bott of Belleville; 2 daughters, Mrs. Stanley Shaw of Maitland, FL and Mrs. Pauline Davis of Amhurst, MA; 1 sister, Anna Bott of Belleville; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

BOULTON, Sarah (Brooks), born 08-05-1812, Lancashire, England, died 1889. Sarah Boulton, 67, was born in Lankenshire, England May 8, 1812. Daughter of Wm. & Mary Brooks, she came to America in 1840, to Patterson, NJ. Then she moved to Rock Island, IL and joined the Baptist church there. In July 1845, she came to and settled in Greene County. She married James H. Boulton on Nov.14, 1850. She was 1 of 9 children, 7 boys and 2 girls, 4 of them preceded her in death along with her father and mother. 4 boys remain to mourn their sister.

He was born in the Hickory Log vicinity in Jersey county. Early in life he moved to Iowa where he had made his home. Mr Boushka was a sales manager for Bond’s in Des Moines. Mr & Mrs. Clarence Sunderland of Delhi and her sister, Mrs. Beulah Swantner of Valley Park, MO, went to Des Moines after hearing of the death of their half brother. Mrs Boushka is survived by 1 son, Charles of Carrollton, 4 grandsons, Ralph and Leo Boushka Jr., of Kane, William of Rolla, MO, and Delbert of the US army stationed at Camp Campbell, KY; 1 granddaughter, Mrs. Wilford Harris of Alton; 2 great grandchildren, Sharon Lee and Barbara Jane Boushka, and 1 sister, Mrs. Effie Cope of Metropolis, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Matt Boushka and 2 sons, Leonard and Leo Boushka. Services were held at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Rev F W Schwarzlose, pastor of first Methodist Church, Jerseyville, officiated and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.

The babe was born Sept 3. In addition to his parents, he is survived by 1 brother, Bert Leigh Bowen; his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. W A Leigh and Mr. & Mrs. B H Bowen of Jerseyville. Short funeral rites were held with Father John J. Clancy and Rev. John A Lampe officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.
BOWEN, Myrtle (White), born 30-10-1866, Charlemont, Massachusetts, died 03-1967, buried Oak Grove Cemetery. Myrtle Bowen, 100, widow of B. H. Bowen and the oldest woman resident Of Jerseyville, died Friday aft at Memorial hospital Alton where she had been a patient for only a few hrs. For the past 2 yrs, Mrs. Bowen has made her home in Alton with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Clarence B. Keehner. From time to time Mrs. Bowen had returned here with her daughter, to oversee the family home on S Washington. She also visited her friends of long standing. She had maintained an active interest in affairs. The centenarian was the oldest member of Jerseyville Women’s Club and had the distinction of having served ss a club mother. Her residency in Jerseyville dates back more than 50 yrs, when her husband Became Supervisor of the Jerseyville Branch of International Shoe Comapny. Mrs Bowen, a daughter of the late Henry & Nancy (Gibbs) White. She was born in Charlemont, MA, on Oct. 30, 1866. She was 1 of 9 children, 6 others of whom lived to be 80 years or older. Mrs Bowen marked her hundredth birthday last fall. Her survivors are her daughter, Mrs. Keehner of Alton; 1 son, Ronald H. Bowen of Webster Groves, MO, and 1 sister, Mrs. Mabel Taylor of Franklin, MA. Her husband and 2 other sons, Richard and Robert Bowen who were also affiliated with the local shoe county branch, preceded her in death. Visitation was held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral home in Jerseyville. Services were held there with Rev. M. Edwards B. Reed, pastor of First Presbyterian church officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove.
BOWERS, Catherine (Powderly), born 06-10-1891, East St. Louis, St. Clair County, died 20-09-1985, buried St. Francis cemetery. Catherine Bowers, 93, of Jerseyville died Sept. 20 at her home. She was born Oct. 6, 1891, in East St. Louis to the late Thomas Powderly & Margaret (Mccarthy) Powderly. She married Walter Bowers Apr. 25, 19 17, in St. Louis. He died Nov.16, 1959. Survivors include sisters-in-law Agnes Powderly and Luella Powderly, both of Jerseyville; nieces and nephews; and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 3 brothers. Visitation and rosary were held at Jacoby brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Funeral service was held 24 Sept. at St. Francis church with Rev. Patrick Morrow officiating. Burial was in St. Francis cemetery. Memorials may be given to St Francis church and school.

Doris I Bowers, 49, died Aug. 13, 1986, at Christian hospital NE in St. Louis county, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Jerseyville, the daughter of Lucy Iona Dugan of Jerseyville and the late Raymond Dugan. On Oct. 4, 1958, in Alton she married Charles Bowers, who survives. Also surviving are her mother, 2 daughter, Janice Arnold of Jerseyville and Kim Roberts of Collinsville; 1 son, Mark Bowers at home; 3 grandchildren; and 2 brother, Kenneth Dugan of Champaign and Donald Dugan of Alton. Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers Funeral home in Jerseyville. Services were held at First Baptist Church of Jerseyville, Rev. V Clay Noah officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society, or the church where she was a member.

Grace Marie Bowers, 76, of Jerseyville, died July 20, at Greenwood Manor. She was born Feb. 10, 1903 in Fieldon, a daughter of the late Henry & Alice (Armstrong) Heiderscheid. Mrs Bowers taught in rural schools in Jersey county. She was a member of the Community Christian Church, Jersey County Home Bureau and Jersey County Health Improvement Association Board. She is survived by her husband, Roy whom she married May 5, 1927; 2 brothers, John Heiderscheid of Jerseyville and Clayton Kheid Erscheid of Cudahy, WI. 3 brother and 1 sister preceded her in death. Services were conducted at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev James Boyer officiated and burial was in Greenwood Manor.

She survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Mrs. Betty Edwards of Carrollton; 2 sons, Joseph B of Hardin and Arnold R. of Granite City; and 1 sister, Cecil Johnisee of NJ. Memorials may be given to Jersey Community hospital.

Bowers, 81, died Sept. 18, at Greenwood Manor nursing home, where he had been a resident since Apr. 13, 1981. He was born in Jersey county, Sept. 17, 1901 and was the son of the late Mrs. Wesley Logan. Bowers was retired from the former International Shoe Tannery in Hartford. Survivors are 2 half sister, Mary Brenn and Susie Crone of Jerseyville and 1 half brother, Russell F. Logan of Medora, nieces and nephews. Visitation was at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where sercvices were held with Rev. Robert Broeder officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to American Cancer society.

Bowers of Rolla, MO, died suddenly Oct. 14, at her home in Rolla. Funeral services were held at Null Brother funeral home in Rolla with Rev. Wilson Davis officiating. Burial was in Rolla cemetery. Mrs Bowers, daughter of the late William J. & Della (Wein) Gabbett, was born in Delavan, IL, on July 3, 1910. As a child she came with her parents to Jerseyville where she spent her youth and attended the local schools. Ssurviving her in addition to her husband are 1 daughter, Miss Phyllis Bowers of Rolla; 1 son, William W. Bowers of St. Louis, MO; 2 grandchildren; and 3 brother Richard and Delmar Gabbett of Jerseyville and James Gabbett of Marthasville, MO. Mr & Mrs. Delmaf Gabbett and Mr. & Mrs. Duane Montgomery and sons of Jerseyville, attended the final rites in Rolla. Mrs Montgomery was a niece of the late Mrs. Bowers.

She was married to George P. Bowker in 1894 and his death occurred in 1935. The decedent is survived by 2 daughter, Mrs. Chester Ruyle of Ruyle Township and Mrs. A. B. Aldridge of Cottage Hills, and 5 sons, John of Litchfield, George of Alton, Fred of Glouchester, NY, Henry of Mesa, AZ, and Victor of Brighton. She also leaves 1 sister, Mrs Frances Massears of Brighton, 20 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Services were held at Brighton Evangelical & Reformed Church, of which she was a member. Rev A L. Schieler conducted the rites and interment was in Brighton cemetery.

A WWII army veteran, he operated the get well vacuum hosp in Memphis, TN, and had formerly operated a vacuum store in Alton. Born in Medora, he was a son of the late Truman & Ruby (Owens) Bowker. Jan 26, 1947, in Medora, he married Almeta (Lowe) Bowker. Surviving are his wife; 4 sons, Master Sgt Milford Bowker of San Antonio, TX, Dwane Bowker of St. Charles, MO, Major Charles Bowker of Omaha, NE, and Richard Bowker of Memphis; 6 grandchildren; 4 sisters, Viola Dirchner and Doris Pruitt, both of Greenfield and Anne Bowker and Lela Harding, both of Medora; and Lela Harding, both of Medora; and 3 brother, Lloyd Bowker of Medora, Gene Bowker of Godfrey and Bill Bowker of Indiana. Preceding him in death were 4 brothers, James, Walter, Elmer and Claude Bowker; and 1 sister, Idabelle Coleman. Services were at Forrest Hill Funeral Home in Memphis and burial was in Forrest Hill Cemetery in Memphis, TN.

Mr Bowker had retired from the Medora elevator after 23 years service. Surviving are his widow, Ruby (Owens) Bowker; 5 daughter, Mrs. Viola Kirchner, Greenfield, Mrs Doris Pruitt, Rockbridge, Mrs. Lela Harding, Mrs. Ida Bell Coleman and Miss Anna Mae Bowker, all of Medora; 7 sons, James and Gene of Alton, Lloyd of Medora, Claude of Carrollton, Minford, Memphis, TN, Elmer, Virginia Beach, VA and William of Indiana; 35 grandchildren; and 35 great grandchildren.
BOWLER, Lee, died 01-1925. Lee Bowler of Ottawa, KS, met death under the wheels of a train in the railroad yards of Ottawa. He was only surviving son of the late P a Bowler, well known Jerseyville resident. 1 half brother, Wm. P. Bowler died 5 years ago. Lee leaves his wife, Katherine (Poufsch) Bowler of Caseyville, IL and 1 son, Harold Bowler. Remains taken to Bethel, IL with burial in cemetery at that place.

His survivors are his wife, Edith (Stevens) Bowling whom he married in 1946 at Greenup, KY; 3 sons, Gregory Bowling, San Diego, CA; Kevin and Desmond, both of Elsah; 1 daughter, Theresa Ann Hancock, Elsah; 3 brothers, Ira Bowling, Ashland, KY, Mack Bowling, Godfrey, Dorsey Bowling, Baltimore, MD; 1 sister, Bernice Knipp, Greenup, KY and 2 grandchildren. Military graveside rites were conducted at Scenic Hill cemetery, Grafton by the Wood River VFW Post no 2859.

BOWMAN, James L., Rockbridge, Greene County, Illinois, died 30-01-1991, buried Oak Grove Cemetery. James L. Bowman, 71, died Jan. 30, 1991, at Christian Hospital NE in St. Louis county, after a lengthy illness. Bowman was an auto mechanic and tow truck driver at Jersey County Motor company in Jerseyville for 30 yrs, retiring in 1984. He was a US Army WWII veteran. Born in Rockbridge, he was the son of the late Carl F & Zella Viola (Loy) Bowman Sr. On Apr. 5, 1947, he married Wanda (Weaver) Bowman, and she died Sept 21, 1983. On Feb. 15, 1986, he married Orlena (Elmore) Campion in Jerseyville. She survives. Also surviving are 2 daughter, Ava Crull of Fieldon and Patty Blackwell of Jerseyville; 1 son, Jim Bowman of Grafton; 3 stepsons, Gene Campion of Piasa, Edward Campion of Brighton and Brad Campion of Bunker Hill; 4 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 2 sister, Frances Pope of Medora and Marcile Clayton of Vermont, IL; and 4 brother, Carl F Bowman Jr of Alton, Harold and Melvin Bowman, both of Medora, and Robert L. Bowman of Jerseyville. Preceding him in death were 1 daughter, Kathy Bowman; and 1 son, Kenneth Bowman. Visitation and services were held at Gubser Funeral home in Jerseyville. Rev Earl D. Clagg officiated. Graveside military rites were conducted by American Legion Post 492 and VFW Post 4528, both of Jerseyville, at Oak Grove cemetery in Jerseyville. She came to America with her parents at the age of 13, married Charles H. Bowman in Jersey county, Oct. 25, 1843. He died in Jerseyville Jan 6, 1876, she died Jan. 20, 1893 at home of daughter Cornelia F Tietsort in Medora.
BOWMAN, Stephen R., born Troy, Rensselaer, NY, died 16-06-1908. Stephen R Bowman, 82, of Ames, OK, died June 16. Mr Bowman, youngest brother of the late Charles H. Bowman, who was for many years sheriff of Jersey county. Born in Troy, NY, he came at an early age to Fidelity vicinity in Jersey county, where he resided many years. Mr Bowman was an uncle of Mrs. C. W. Tiesort of Medora and Hon. S H. Bowman of Jerseyville. Deceased suffered from cancer.

She was a nurse’s aide at Garnets Chateau. She was born Jan. 3, 1928 in Calhoun county to the late Edward & Ava (Turpin) Weaver and married James L. Bowman on Apr. 5, 1947 in Jerseyville. She is survived by her husband; 1 son, Jim of Jerseyville; 2 daughters, Ava Crull of Rosedale and Patricia Kallal of Jerseyville; 2 brothers, Howard Weaver of Grafton and Charles Weaver of Belleville; 2 sister, Velma Kroeschel of Jerseyville and Edna of South Roxana; 4 grandchildren. Services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral home in Jerseyville. Rev Ronald Woodrum officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to State St. Baptist Church.

Boyer, of Jerseyville, died at Passavant hospital in Jacksonville where she had been a patient for several days. Her health had been impaired for some time and she fell while staying at the home of her niece, Mrs. Glenn Miller in Waverly. She was moved to the hospital for treatment of an arm fracture sustained in the fall. Funeral services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev W. Louis Purcell, pastor of first Methodist Church, officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs Boyer, a daughter of the late George & Anna (Detherage) Scott, was born in Waverly, Oct. 16, 1882. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burleigh W Boyer. Surviving are 3 nieces, Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Clay Spann of Springfield, and Mrs. Alberta Scott of San Antonio, TX.

BOYNTON, John E., born 10-05-1848, Stephenson county, Illinois, died 10-07-1915, buried Oak Grove Cemetery. Captain John E Boynton died at his home in Jerseyville. He was born on a farm in Stephenson county, IL, May 10, 1848. He entered the Union Army at 16, mustered in at Madison, WI, Co H, 31st Reg-Wis Volunteer Infantry 3rd Brigade of 1st Div of 20th Corp of the Army of the Cumberland and was with Sherman on the March to the Sea. Mustered out of service at Louisville, KY, July 8, 1865. He learned the trade of watchmaker and jewler and worked in Alton for a time with J. W. Cory. Moved to Jerseyville in early ’70’s and opened business. On Aug. 2, 1876 he wed Martha L. (Beaty) Boynton. 2 children, both dying at an early age, Chester Leroy and Lucile, prededed him in death. He leaves his wife, 2 sons, Wm. P. Boynton, attorney of Alton, IL, John E Boynton, mechanical engineer of Lincoln, IL; 1 sister, Sophornia Dunham, Manchester, IA, she being the last of 9 brothers and sisters. Rev Joseph Jenkins and Rev. Neeley officiated at the Baptist Church with burial in Oak Grove cemetery. GAR and Masonic services were held.

In 1823 she married Noa Boynton who survives. Parents of 9 children, 6 sons and 3 daughters, 1 son died in CA. In 1840 she with her family came from Vermont to Stephenson county, IL. Member of Congregational church. Brief services at the son’s home by Rev. C. E Taylor Baptist Church. Remains taken to Manchester, IA, for burial. “Blessed are they who died in the lord.”
