Photos from Della Mae Allen Album
George Edwin Duncan & Della M. Allen
Della Allen married George Edwin Duncan, 10 Apr 1901 in Jersey. The photo is Della and George presumably taken on their wedding day.
I have what is left of a photo album belonging to my great grandmother, Della Mae Allen. Della was the daughter of Marion Otto Allen and Maria Cresswell. George was the son of Isaiah Clark Duncan and Frances Maranda Highfill. From Sherry Williamson, descended through son Marion Warren Duncan.
Left: Addie Allen, Middle: Addie (left) and Ollie Allen, Right: Gertie Allen
Addie Allen was born in 1879 and married Clarence Noble. Ollie Allen was born in 1883. Gertie Allen was born in 1881.
Left: Lawrence Allen, Right: Lena and Lawrence Allen
These are not labeled but am relatively certain that this is Lena and Lawrence Allen. They were twins, born in 1898. Lena married Raymond Wallace and Lawrence married Birdie LaMarsh.
Warren and Margaret Duncan
These are my grandparents, M. Warren Duncan (1902-1965) and Margaret Hawkins (1903-1981). Margaret was born in Dartmouth, England.
Left: Addie Duncan, Right: Bertha Duncan
This is labeled “Addie Duncan” 1870-1958 (left photo). She married Luther Legate 11 Sep 1895. She was the daughter of Isaiah Duncan and Frances Highfill. Bertha Duncan was my grandfather’s half sister (right photo). After Della Allen died in 1904, George Duncan remarried.
Robert Wadlow
Robert Wadlow at one time was the tallest man known. He is connected through the Legate family. If I remember correctly, my grandmother said that he was third cousin to Luther Legate. I know that after my grandparents (Marion W. Duncan and Margaret Hawkins) were married, they went back to Alton to visit his family. Woman in photo is unidentified.
