Dabbs Cemetery, Sec. 16, Otter Creek TownshipAccording to Abandoned Cemeteries of Jersey County, Illinois by Elaine Witt, the following Dabbs are buried in this cemetery: Jesse, 1818-1873; Mathilda, 1818-1865; Louis E., 1871-1873; Sarah E., 1866-1874; Linda J., 1879-1881; Elias; William W.; Catherine E. (William’s wife) and Infant female who died 23 March 1903 aged 5 days.

On a trip to Dabbs cemetery in 1987, I recorded the following tombstone transcriptions (Judy Griffin):

Samuel Dabbs, died Dec. 28, 1855, aged 47(?) yrs 11 mo (I was told that Samuel and Mary were moved from the old cemetery to the Dabbs cemetery.)
Mary, wife of Samuel Dabbs, Sept. 14, 1856, aged 45 yrs
    Wm. W. Dabbs, June 8, 1836, Oct. 5, 1917
Catherine, his wife, Dec. 12, 1848
    Charles W. Dabbs, 1849-1865
    Mathilda Dabbs, 1818-1865
    Jesse Dabbs, 1818-1873
    Lydia/Lidda J. Dabbs, 1879-1881
    Sarah E. Dabbs, 1866-1874
    Louis E. Dabbs, 1871-1873
    Jasen/Jason E. Dabbs, 1868-1868
    Elias B. Dabbs

The Dabbs cemetery is high on a hill and the walk up to the cemetery is steep and tiring. It is hard to imagine how difficult it must have been to take a casket up the hill with a team of horses and wagon. Morris Dabbs (descendant, now deceased) kept this cemetery mowed until he moved into town circa 1990s.
