George Springman, Sr.George SPRINGMAN and Helena (SEEBACHER) Springman married in Germany and had a son Leo Springman who was born November 2,1849 in Hasellacher Amtoberkirchen, Baden Germany. George Springman was born September 16,1825 in Waldertin Amt Achen, Baden,Germany. Helena was born May 10,1829 in Hasellacher Amt Oberkirchen, Baden, Germany daughter of Anthony Seebacher and Mary Sievermann.They started on the long trip to the United States in the fall of 1855 on a sailing ship and were on the sea for 46 days before landing in New Orleans. They remarried in the St.Louis Roc Catholic Church when they arrived here.

They then came up the Mississippi to Alton, Illinois and stayed in Madison County where he mined coal. George ,Helena and son Leo then moved to Piasa Township, Jersey,County, Illinois and bought 80 acres from which he cleared and farmed. Later he brought 80 more acres making a total of 160 acres. They built a small log house on the homestead and later built a 2 story brick house. After George died his son Leo took over the farm. A few years ago half the farm was sold and the house burned down, but 80 acres of the land is still own by a Springman. George died in January 7,1897 and is buried in St. Alphonsus Church Cemetery. Helena died October 18,1895 and is buried in St.Alphonsus Church Cemetery.
