Thomas DANIELS, of Georgia built a cabin on land later owned by Freeman MAINS in about 1816.Thomas Daniels was married to an unknown woman and had at least 2 children. Known at present are Walker and Nathan, according to an article named Kane History, in the Carrollton Patriot, 28 May 1914, they were the sons of Thomas Daniels and was born in Kentucky. Walker died 1829, in Greene County, Illinois (probate record, which was finalized 6 July 1829, by Jehu BROWN). In 1820, Walker can be found in Madison County, now known as Greene County (Greene County was formed from Madison County in 1821). Walker married Martha “Patsy” EVANS before 1820. She was born 6 Apr 1792 and died 6 December 1854 and is buried in the Reddish cemetery, Jersey County, IL. Their children were, Sarah; Eastridge; Rebecca; Clarinda; Elizabeth; Lydia; John Clark and Deliah.

Nathan DANIELS, my ancestor, was born circa 1810 in Kentucky (1830 Federal census claims he is between 20 to 30 years of age, 2 sons under 5), died 1836 in Greene County, Illinois. On the 12 day of December, Jacob BOWERS was appointed as guardian of minor children of Nathan and Louisa Allen Daniels. Their children were, JAMES IRWIN; William Lee; Nathan Jr.; Margaret; Rebecca Jane.

James Irwin DANIELS, my ancestor, was born 13 October 1824, in Greene county, Illinois and died December 1897 and is buried in the Woodbury cemetery, Greene County, Illinois. His occupation was a farmer. He married first, Mary Ann SCOGGINS, daughter of Benjamin Franklin Scoggins and Sarah HILL, 22 February 1846 (sworn to by James P. Scoggins and was performed by Robert H. Scoggins, JP). Their children were Rebecca Ann; John; Sarah; George; James Franklin and Joseph. James Irwin married second, a Elizabeth J. WRIGHT, the daughter of Jackson Wright, 2 September 1873 in Greene County, Illinois. They had no children.

James Franklin DANIELS, my ancestor, was born 29 January 1857 in Greene County, Illinois and died May 1939 in Kane, Greene County, Illinois and is buried in the Woodbury cemetery, Greene County, Illinois. The 1900 census shows him to be a farmer. James F. married first, Nancy Jane Scoggins, the daughter of Robert Hightower and Martha Ann WITT Scoggins, 3 December 1877. Their children were: Anthony Lee “Tone”; JOHN EVAN; William R.; Charles “Date”; Harry Cleveland and Frederick Franklin. James F. married second, Ellen SHIRLEY. The 1900 census states her name as Martha E.. No children to this union.

John Evan DANIELS, my ancestor, was born 20 July 1879 in Greene County and died in Jerseyville, Jersey County, Illinois 31 October 1945. Buried in the Jalappa cemetery, Greene County, Illinois. He married Iva Coquocia MAINS, the daughter of Houston Reynolds & Joanna GLASS Mains, 31 July 1903. (Houston known and recorded friend of Frank and Jesse JAMES; information can be found in the Jersey County History). John & Ivy’s children were: Ernest Marvin “Ernie”; HAZEL NEVADA; Everett Junious “Red” and Chester Dale “Chet”.

Hazel Nevada DANIELS, my ancestor was born 23 March 1907 in Jersey county, Illinois. She married Jesse Leon MARGESON, son of George and Eva GARLOW Margeson 31 August 1922 in Maqouketa, Iowa. Jesse and Hazel both are buried in the Jalappa cemetery in Greene County, Illinois Their children are; Marvin; Lola, Myrtle (deceased); DOROTHY MAE (deceased); Darriel (deceased); Margaret; Jo Ann and Joan.
